Kenneth D. “Kenny” Kippes, age 71, died Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

&nbsp;He was born August 31, 1950, in Russell to George and Doris (Nowak) Kippes.&nbsp; He married Margaret (Hammerschmidt) on October 14, 1972, in Hays.&nbsp;

He owned and operated Ken’s Heating &amp; Air most of his life and the remaining 12 years worked at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; He grew up on the family farm North of Walker, Kansas.&nbsp; Ken attended Walker Grade School and was a 1969 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; He enjoyed wood working and spending time with his grandkids and their extracurricular activities.&nbsp; He was a long-time member of the Sons of American Legion and St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus both of Hays.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kippes, of the home; three daughters, Michele Kieffer and husband, Andy, Hays, KS; Janelle Limon and husband, Richard, Colorado Springs, CO; Renee Trow, Scott City, KS; two sons, Kurt Kippes and wife, Kellie, Fenton, MI; John Kippes, Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren, Avery Kieffer; Macie Kieffer; Jasmine Limon; Raquel Limon; Kalyn Kippes; Kylah Kippes; Emily Vincent;&nbsp;&nbsp;one sister, Judy Sherlock and husband, Steve, Buena Vista, CO; his mother-in-law, Bernice Hammerschmidt, Hays, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Richard Hammerschmidt.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 10, 2021, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601 with Father Nick Parker officiating.&nbsp; A private family inurnment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Walker, Kansas.

A Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the mortuary.

Elizabeth "Liz" Knitter, 96, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2021, in Salina, KS. She was born November 10, 1925, in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, and graduated from Beloit High School. Liz remained in Beloit for ten years after high school, teaching in rural schools and working at R. L. Hamilton law firm before moving to San Bernardino, California. Liz worked as a legal secretary for 34 years. The last 18 years of her professional career were with the California State Appellate Courts. Liz joined Beta Sigma Phi sorority while living in Beloit and continued her involvement in California and Downs.  She was a lifetime member and active at the local, council, and state levels.  

Liz retired in 1988 and moved to Downs to be near family and friends. In retirement, Liz volunteered in many venues. She wrote for the local newspaper, presided over local judicial issues, and was an active artist with exhibits at the Dane G. Hansen Museum and the National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud, NE. Liz taught various art workshops with area schools and Cloud County Community College. Liz supported Public Broadcast TV, Grassroots Art; Kansas Explorers Club; Kansas Sampler Foundation; and Solomon Valley Highway 24 Heritage Alliance.  She loved her family, books, meeting people, good conversations, and traveling.

Liz is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Florence (McDaniels) Knitter, sisters Betty Lou Knitter and Phyllis DeBey, and brother-in-laws Marlow DeBey and Doug Terry. Survivors include her sister Kathie Terry of Hill City, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Smoky Hills PBS or the Downs Christian Church. Domoney Funeral Home PO Box 127, Downs KS 67437, is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

John L. Buller, age 90, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 
the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on July 
31, 1931, in Montezuma, Kansas, the son of Henry &amp; Eva Schmidt 
Buller.&nbsp; In 1976 he moved to Malin, Oregon, and lived and farmed there 
until 2000.&nbsp; In 2013 he moved to Scott City, Kansas.

He was a member of the Merrill Baptist Church in Merrill, Oregon, and
 was a past deacon in the church.&nbsp; He loved playing guitar and many 
other instruments.&nbsp; He often played gospel music with his family and 
friends at church on Sunday.&nbsp; His love of music carried on throughout 
his life, even when he could no longer play.

On September 17, 1950, he married Norma Jean Unruh in Montezuma, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Norma Jean Buller of Scott City, Kansas,
 Two Sons - Sheldon &amp; Kim Buller of Scott City, Kansas, Jay &amp; 
Cheryl Buller of Malin, Oregon, One Daughter - Leslie &amp; Stan Koehn 
of Scott City, Kansas, One Brother - Milton &amp; Dee Buller of Bucklin,
 Kansas, One Sister - Darlene &amp; Gary Jantz of Greeley, Colorado, 
Twelve Grandchildren, Twenty Great Grandchildren, and Seven Great Great 
Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Three Brothers - Franklin 
Buller, Ervin Buller, Clayton Buller, Two Sisters - Esther Koehn, Geneva
 Schmidt, and One Niece - Kimma Clark.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 9, 
2021, at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas, with

Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born 
August 22, 1932, in Ballinger, Texas, to Buna Doc and Jessie (Yarnell) 
Camp.&nbsp; Dorothy married Burl Dean Ford May 2, 1951, in Ballinger, Texas.&nbsp;
 He passed away April 23, 1976.&nbsp; She then married Alton Lee Morgan.

Dorothy, a resident of Great Bend since 1999 coming from Clovis, NM, 
was a long time dedicated employee of Wal Mart.&nbsp; She was of the Baptist 
faith, an avid KU and Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed crocheting and 
woodcrafts.

Survivors include, two sons, Curtis Ford, Sr. of Great Bend and Kevin
 Ford of Ruidoso, NM; a daughter, Denise King and significant other 
Steve Fricks of Great Bend; 10 grandchildren and several great 
grandchildren; sister, Gail Porter of Lubbock, Texas; and former 
son-in-law Eddie King of Great Bend.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Burl Dean Ford and Alton Lee 
Morgan; two sons, John Ford and David Ford; and a brother, Buddy Doc 
Camp.

Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend.&nbsp; He was born 
November 1, 1967, in Hutchinson, to Wesley R. and Ida Mae (DeBoard) 
Mohr, Sr. Wes married Lisa Kern Nov. 9, 1991, in Great Bend.&nbsp;

Wes, a resident of Great Bend since 1999 coming from Wichita, was the
 owner and operator of A-One Automotive.&nbsp; Being of the Christian faith, 
Wes used his generosity and gift of mechanics to help many people of the
 community.&nbsp; He was a former board member of the Barton Community 
College Automotive Department and was passionate about racing, being 
nationally ranked with many racing circuits and organizations.&nbsp; One of 
his most renowned achievements was being the recipient of the Hutchinson
 Grand National Champion.&nbsp; Above all, he was a dedicated family man, 
especially enjoying his children's activities, especially Quick Silver 
softball and Bombers Baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa, and his children, Taylor Vasquez, 
Kylee Mohr and Slade Mohr all of the home; three brothers, Phillip 
Stefanski of Mo., Eldon Stefanski of Great Bend and Jeff Stefanski of 
Hoisington; six sisters, Cheryl Asher of Mo., Marla Derstein of Mo., 
Jeanie Field of Nickerson, Dee Gisel (Dennis) of Lawrence, Kathy Bush of
 Hutchinson, and Tina Mohr (Gary) of Cal.; uncle, Kenneth Mohr (Shari) 
of Ga.; aunt, Arletta Detherage of Great Bend; father and mother-in-law,
 Terry and Marie Kern of Great Bend; brother-in-law, Pat Kern of Great 
Bend, and sister-in-law, Loretta Murphy (Jim) of Great Bend.

Dolores "Jeanie" Pfannenstiel, 89, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 25th, 2021, at Eaglecrest Retirement Community. 
 Jeanie was born in Schoenchen, Kansas on September 19, 1932, a daughter of the late Sophia (Herklotz) and Edward Werth.
 She was a homemaker, sales clerk at Ashton's Supermarket in Salina and True Value Hardware in Norton, Kansas. 
 Jeanie was a member of the Jaycee Janes Organization in Norton, 
Kansas. She was also a member of Emmanuel Church where she served as the

Kansas, Debra Thompson (James), of Olathe, Kansas; son, Kevin 
Pfannenstiel, of Irving, Texas. 
 She is also survived by two granddaughters, Briana Kunze (Jason) of 
Wamego, Kansas, Katrina Tobin (Ryan McKee) of Aurora, Colorado; two 
grandsons, Brent Meter, of Overland Park, Kansas, Blake Pfannenstiel, of
 Aurora, Colorado; great grandchildren, Jase Kunze of Wamego, Kansas,

 Jeanie was born in Schoenchen, Kansas on September 19, 1932, a daughter of the late Sophia (Herklotz) and Edward Werth.
 She was a homemaker, sales clerk at Ashton's Supermarket in Salina and True Value Hardware in Norton, Kansas. 
 Jeanie was a member of the Jaycee Janes Organization in Norton, 
Kansas. She was also a member of Emmanuel Church where she served as the
 Greeter Coordinator of the church greeters for many years. Jeanie was a

Denise Detter, 68, died December 2, 2021, at Kansas Heart Hospital, 
Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born May 6, 1953, in Lyons, Kansas, the 
daughter of Glen Irving and Blanche Marie (Jones) Perry.&nbsp; Denise was a 
1971 graduate of Lyons High School.&nbsp;

On July 30, 1977, she married Leonard “Dwayne” Detter in Lyons, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on January 12, 2014.

A longtime Hoisington resident, Denise worked as an office manager in
 the Great Bend oral surgeons office.&nbsp; Prior to this, she worked for 
Pepsi Distribution in Hays.

Denise was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.&nbsp; She was an 
avid reader and loved spending time with family and friends.&nbsp; Music and 
dancing was an essential part of her life and she loved following her 
favorite musician, Dwayne, to all of his gigs with Ronnie and the 
Rockits.

She is survived by her two children; Jebediah Cole Detter of Nixa, 
Missouri, and Caitlin Denise Alexander of Dodge City, Kansas; three

Denise Detter

Roberta Bernice Wise, 69, passed away December 1, 2021, at the 
University of Kansas Medical Center - St. Francis Campus in Topeka. She 
was born on May 6, 1952, at Liberal to Norman and Elda (Aspley) Wise.

Coming from Bushton in 1995, Roberta was a current Great Bend 
resident. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. Roberta 
enjoyed riding horses and doing arts and crafts.

Survivors include, her sister, Elda Maxwell and husband Don of Leon, 
Kan.; and many Rosewood friends. She was preceded in death by her 
parents.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 6, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m.,
 Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim 
Singleton presiding. Interment will be in the Bushton Cemetery.

Allen "Al" Dale Kiser, 89, Dodge City, was born September 12, 1932, in
 Beloit, Kansas during the days of the Great Depression, and died 
November 30, 2021, at SunPorch of Dodge City under the care of Hospice of
 the Prairie in Dodge City.

Al served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict on the USS Hamul as a Printer 2nd Class.

That was the beginning of his 35-year career as a printer and 
newspaper Linotype operator in several locales, including the Salina 
Journal. For a time, he was the owner and publisher of the Protection 
Post.

Al then took his mechanical skills to Dodge City USD #443 where he 
worked 15 years as a building engineer and school janitor, retiring in 
1995.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dale B. Kiser and Rhama&nbsp;(Marie)&nbsp;B. Vangilder Kiser, and his sister Dana J. Long and brother-in-law William (Bill) L. Long.

Al is survived by his children Becky Kiser, Hays, Eric Kiser, 
Wichita, and Kathy Wilkerson and husband Jack, Dodge City. He also has 
four granddaughters, Megan, Katie, Bridgette, and Vittoria; four 
great-grandchildren, Carter, Maddox, Carter, and Grace; nephew Dale W. 
Long (Kelli) and many other nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements were conducted by Swaim Funeral Chapel of 
Dodge City. As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial 
service. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. The 
family extends their gratitude and thanks to the SunPorch staff who took
 great care of Al in their facility the past two years.

Johnny Lee “John” Ireland, age 72 of 
Hays, Kansas passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Hays Medical 
Center. He was born September 3, 1949 in Concordia, Kansas to John A. 
and Marjorie F. (Beaushaw) Ireland.

John graduated from Natoma High School 
in 1967. Played football at Butler County Community College, and later 
graduated from Fort Hays State.

John worked for several companies in 
sales positions throughout his career. They included Baker Oilfield 
Tools, RayBestos, Standard Automotive, and Crawford Supply. John was a 
veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam Era and taught 
for the SERE program at Fairchild AFB. He enjoyed Golf and was a 
long-time member of Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays as well as an avid 
K-State football fan.

John is survived by a son, Tanner 
Ireland of Ohio; a step daughter , Sara Sharpe of Hays; a step son, 
Scott Sharpe of Topeka, KS ; a brother, Gregg Ireland and wife Carol of 
Topeka; and two nieces, Jackie Ireland of Wichita and Jessie Ireland of 
Topeka.

John was preceded in death by his parents and Nephew Ezekiel Ireland.

Celebration of Life services and 
sharing will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 9, 2021 at

Johnny Lee 'John' Ireland

Merle Dean Hargitt was born December 10, 1929. He graduated with the 
Class of 1947 from Quinter High School.&nbsp;On May 25, 1950, Merle was 
united in marriage to Dotty Marie Taylor and together they enjoyed more 
than 71 years of marriage. After 91 years of life, he made his 
transition to glory the 22nd&nbsp;day of November 2021.&nbsp;

Raised on the family farm, Merle loved the land and got special joy 
helping his father, brother, sons, and grandsons, especially during 
harvest. One of the special moments of his life was when the Hargitt 
farm, purchased in 1898, was recognized by the Kansas Farm Bureau as a 
Century Farm.

Merle was a life-long learner. There was no mechanical, electrical, 
heating, or air conditioning problem “Mr. Fix It” could not solve—for 
his family, friends, acquaintances, and customers. He was known for his 
gentle heart, his infectious smile, for “giving the best hugs ever”, his
 willingness to help, his love of people, and an everlasting optimism 
that made the world a better place.

First and foremost, Merle loved God and out of that flowed his love 
of family and neighbor. He took great pride in each child, grandchild, 
and great-grandchild. If asked for his opinion, he would offer it with 
kindness. Occasionally, when he felt strongly that someone he loved was 
making a significant error in judgement “Dad/Grandpa Merle” would go 
directly to that person and communicate his concern in a way that rarely
 caused offense and often provided a constructive course correction.

Merle was a life-long member of Quinter United Methodist Church. He 
loved music and singing. He served in every capacity asked of him by the
 Pastor, the United Methodist Men, and others. With Dotty, Merle was a 
frequent sponsor for the church youth group mission trips and together 
they served as custodians of the QUMC for 54 years. In addition, Merle 
represented his local church at the Kansas West Annual Conference. He 
had a way of making people feel respected and valued—even if their views
 might differ from his own—because he listened thoughtfully and cared 
genuinely.

Service to the Quinter community included Merle’s time as mayor, 
years of participation in the Kiwanis Club, taking tickets at school 
sporting events, and treasurer of the Quinter Community Service Club.

Merle is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Thomas 
Hargitt; his brothers, Glenn and George Hargitt; and his son, Roy Dean 
Hargitt.

Merle is survived by his wife, Dotty Hargitt, his sisters, Marjorie 
Moos (Charlie) of Grinnell and Joan McCormick (Mike) of Lyons, KS.; 
sister-in-law Mary Ann McConnell of Omaha; brother-in-law “Tate” Taylor 
(LeMer) of Littleton, CO; his daughters Maryle Albin (Tom) of Hermitage,
 TN; Mona Stewart (Tom) of Quinter, Randall Hargitt (Rita) of Quinter, 
Wendall Hargitt (Gina) of Quinter; Neil Hargitt (JoEva) of Arnold, KS; 
daughter-in-law Nadine Hargitt (Roy) of Quinter; and 20 grandchildren, 
34 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grand and great-grandchildren plus 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends—they will go 
forward with the loving legacy he left behind and continue to feel his 
presence in their lives.

win, who could ask for more than a win, win situation." Ron served rural churches in central and western Kansas as a United 
Methodist Ordained Minister. Ron having grown up on a farm north of 
Abilene loved the rural community people. He could be heard saying the 
ladies of rural Kansas are the best cooks. He also said he had not met a
 pie he did not like.
 Ron was born January 16, 1944, in Abilene, Kansas, to Delbert L. Lowry
 and Tabitha N. Davidson. Ron attended Friends University and Phillips 
University where he received his Masters of Divinity.
 Ron has many friends and many interests such as ham radio, 
electronics, creating lighted Christmas decorations and being a ball 
point pen maker. Ron said turning 308 shell cartridges into writing pens
 was like turning a sword into plow shares.
 Ron is survived by his wife, Sheron and their son Bennett of Wilson,
 KS; two step-sons, Shawn (Sheryl) Batt of Wichita, KS and Shane (Rosa) 
Batt of Cyprus, KS; one sister, Judy Adee; and many other family members

James Monroe “Jim” Cornwell Sr., died December 2, 2021, at his home 
in Hoisington.&nbsp; He was born August 24, 1938, in Sharon, Kansas, the son 
of Newton M. and Esther S. (Gillig) Cornwell.&nbsp; Jim was a 1956 graduate 
of Kiowa High School, Kiowa, Kansas.

On June 14, 1958 he married Jannette L. “Jan” Harris in Kiowa, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on November 20, 2007.

A longtime Hoisington resident, Jim worked for the Telephone Company 
for over 40 years, reitirng as a Network Technician. He was a member of 
First United Methodist Church of Hoisington, the Hoisington and Great 
Bend Archery Clubs, and Hoisington Historical Society.

He is survived by two sons, James Monroe “Bo” Cornwell, Jr. and wife 
Kim of Mt. Cory, Ohio, and Brett M. Cornwell and wife Crystal of 
Hollister, Missouri; two daughters, Terri Szendrodi of Hoisington, and 
Sherri Jackson and husband Danny of Hill City; two brothers, Charles 
Cornwell of Springdale, Arkansas, and Donald Cornwell of Tijares, New 
Mexico; a sister-in-law, Asa Cornwell of Springdale, Arkansas; 13 
grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Larry Cornwell.

Patricia L. Hassman, 69, passed away November 26, 2021, at her home, Larned.

She was born April 17, 1952, in McPherson; the daughter of Irvan John 
and Jean Louise Sitts Hassman. A longtime area resident; she was head 
of the HR dept at the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Great Bend, Prairie Arts Unlimited and the Larned Music Club, both of Larned.&nbsp;

Gayle Lynn Hecky-Kurup, age 70, of Hays, Kansas died Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born December 5, 1950, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Thomas Amon 
and Alice Frances (Ropeter) Mallory.&nbsp; She married Sylvester Hecky then 
later married Robert Kurup, and they both preceded her in death.&nbsp;

She was sales representative and computer technician for N.E.W. and 
Direct TV.&nbsp; She grew up and attended high school in California.&nbsp; She 
moved to Russell in 2000 and then later moved to Hays, she retired in 
2016.&nbsp; She enjoyed arts and crafts, going fishing, and always had a love
 for animals.&nbsp; Most of all she loved her grandchildren, family, and spending time with them.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Jacob Kurup and wife, Kristin, Russell;
 Nicholas Kurup, Hays, KS; Melissa Sennett and Brian Summers, Hays, KS;

Merle Dean Hargitt was born December 10, 1929. He graduated with the Class of 1947 from Quinter High School.&nbsp;On May 25, 1950, Merle was united in marriage to Dotty Marie Taylor and together they enjoyed more than 71 years of marriage. After 91 years of life, he made his transition to glory the 22nd&nbsp;day of November 2021.&nbsp;

Raised on the family farm, Merle loved the land and got special joy helping his father, brother, sons, and grandsons, especially during harvest. One of the special moments of his life was when the Hargitt farm, purchased in 1898, was recognized by the Kansas Farm Bureau as a Century Farm.

Merle was a life-long learner. There was no mechanical, electrical, heating, or air conditioning problem “Mr. Fix It” could not solve—for his family, friends, acquaintances, and customers. He was known for his gentle heart, his infectious smile, for “giving the best hugs ever”, his willingness to help, his love of people, and an everlasting optimism that made the world a better place.&nbsp;

First and foremost, Merle loved God and out of that flowed his love of family and neighbor. He took great pride in each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. If asked for his opinion, he would offer it with kindness. Occasionally, when he felt strongly that someone he loved was making a significant error in judgement “Dad/Grandpa Merle” would go directly to that person and communicate his concern in a way that rarely caused offense and often provided a constructive course correction.

Merle was a life-long member of Quinter United Methodist Church. He loved music and singing. He served in every capacity asked of him by the Pastor, the United Methodist Men, and others. With Dotty, Merle was a frequent sponsor for the church youth group mission trips and together they served as custodians of the QUMC for 54 years. In addition, Merle represented his local church at the Kansas West Annual Conference. He had a way of making people feel respected and valued—even if their views might differ from his own—because he listened thoughtfully and cared genuinely.

Service to the Quinter community included Merle’s time as mayor, years of participation in the Kiwanis Club, taking tickets at school sporting events, and treasurer of the Quinter Community Service Club.

Merle is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Thomas Hargitt; his brothers, Glenn and George Hargitt; and his son, Roy Dean Hargitt.&nbsp;

Merle is survived by his wife, Dotty Hargitt, his sisters, Marjorie Moos (Charlie) of Grinnell and Joan McCormick (Mike) of Lyons, KS.; sister-in-law Mary Ann McConnell of Omaha; brother-in-law “Tate” Taylor (LeMer) of Littleton, CO; his daughters Maryle Albin (Tom) of Hermitage, TN; Mona Stewart (Tom) of Quinter, Randall Hargitt (Rita) of Quinter, Wendall Hargitt (Gina) of Quinter; Neil Hargitt (JoEva) of Arnold, KS; daughter-in-law Nadine Hargitt (Roy) of Quinter; and 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grand and great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends—they will go forward with the loving legacy he left behind and continue to feel his presence in their lives.

Occasionally, when he felt strongly that someone he loved was making a significant error in judgement “Dad/Grandpa Merle” would go directly to that person and communicate his concern in a way that rarely caused offense and often provided a constructive course correction.Merle was a life-long member of Quinter United Methodist Church. He loved music and singing. He served in every capacity asked of him by the Pastor, the United Methodist Men, and others. With Dotty, Merle was a frequent sponsor for the church youth group mission trips and together they served as custodians of the QUMC for 54 years. In addition, Merle represented his local church at the Kansas West Annual Conference. He had a way of making people feel respected and valued—even if their views might differ from his own—because he listened thoughtfully and cared genuinely.Service to the Quinter community included Merle’s time as mayor, years of participation in the Kiwanis Club, taking tickets at school sporting events, and treasurer of the Quinter Community Service Club.Merle is preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Thomas Hargitt; his brothers, Glenn and George Hargitt; and his son, Roy Dean Hargitt.&nbsp;Merle is survived by his wife, Dotty Hargitt, his sisters, Marjorie Moos (Charlie) of Grinnell and Joan McCormick (Mike) of Lyons, KS.; sister-in-law Mary Ann McConnell of Omaha; brother-in-law “Tate” Taylor (LeMer) of Littleton, CO; his daughters Maryle Albin (Tom) of Hermitage, TN; Mona Stewart (Tom) of Quinter, Randall Hargitt (Rita) of Quinter, Wendall Hargitt (Gina) of Quinter; Neil Hargitt (JoEva) of Arnold, KS; daughter-in-law Nadine Hargitt (Roy) of Quinter; and 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grand and great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews.He will be dearly missed by his family and friends—they will go forward with the loving legacy he left behind and continue to feel his presence in their lives.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Quinter United Methodist Church 218 W. 4th St., Quinter, KS 67752 or to the Quinter High School Scholarship fund. Paul Oren Davis was born at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas on March 27, 1946, and died at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas on November 26, 2021. &nbsp;

He graduated from Almena Rural High School in 1964 and joined his father on the family farm.&nbsp; He married Peggy Sue Davis (Anderson) on June 12, 1966. The couple had four children and took over the family farm from his parents. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Sue Davis (Anderson); four children, Tisha Sue Morrical (Davis) of Lindsborg, Kansas; Timothy Oren Davis and his wife Penny of Hays, Kansas; Theodore Clay Davis and his wife Farrah May of Prairie View, Kansas; and Thad Albert Davis of Portland Oregon; eleven grandchildren, Damien Charles Davis (Kylie), Hayley Erin Samford (Luke), Hannah Marie Morrical, Skylar Nicole Denny (Jeremy), Alexander Oren Davis (Sarah), Sydney Marie Davis, Tate Jessie (TJ) Morrical, Arianna Mae Davis, Alleiah Faye Davis, Amelia Sue Davis, and Allysandra Elva Davis; one great grandson, Barrett Clay Davis; and his sister, Linda Lucile Malcolm and her husband Donald,

He was born January 27, 1943, in Great Bend, KS, the son of Milton 
Glenn and Velda Jo Akin Woodard.&nbsp; A Larned area resident, he was of the 
Christian faith. After serving four years in the United States Navy, he 
worked as an airline manager.

Survivors include: sister, Wadonna (Leonard) King, Larned; seven 
nephews, Scott (Nancy) King, Victoria, MN, Chuck (Pam) Woodard,
