Walter Franklin McCormick

Donita P. Buerkle, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021,&nbsp; at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on 
December 22, 1928, the daughter of Paul and Lucy Kidwell Hagler.&nbsp; A 
resident of Holcomb, Kansas since 1946 moving from Kearny County, 
Kansas, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, Kansas and a member of EHU &amp; ESA.

On August 12, 1945, she married Robert Buerkle in Deerfield, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on October 12, 2020, in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include her Two Daughters - Anita &amp; Dennis Miller of 
Wilson, Kansas, Christine &amp; Gregg Joy of Garden City, Kansas, One 
Sons - Gail &amp; Karen Buerkle of Azel, Texas, Eight Grandchildren - 
Lisa &amp; Todd Scott of Holcomb, Kansas, Brett &amp; Wendy Pollman of 
Wichita, Kansas, Rachel &amp; John Schmit of Valrico, Florida, Kenton 
Pollman of Augusta, Kansas, Tammy Miller of Russell, Kansas, Pam &amp; 
Bobby Funk of Alabama, Terry Miller of Beaver, Kansas, Garry Lee &amp; 
Kylene Miller of Ellsworth, Kansas, Twenty One Great grandchildren, 31 
Great Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Two Sons - Alan 
Buerkle and Gary Lee Buerkle, One Sister - Dorothy Williams-Yakel, Four 
Brothers - Loren Hagler, Olin “Short” Hagler, Kenneth Hagler, and 
Maurice Hagler.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 
2021, at the Prairie View Church of the Brethren, Friend, Kansas with 
Rev. Jon Tuttle presiding.&nbsp; Services will be live-streamed by clicking

p.m.

Memorials can be made to the St. Catherine Hospice or the Prairie

Mary Louise Mapps was born June 14, 1926, to Robert and Virginia Dockery 
in Los Angeles, CA. She met and married the love of her life, her 
next-door neighbor, Frank Mapps Jr. To this 36-year union was born their
 two daughters, Rachel and Leah.
 Frank and Mary became committed Christians. They attended and 
graduated from the Los Angeles Bible Training School. They joined 
Evangelical Baptist Church where they and their daughters attended all 
services faithfully for many years. Frank Mapps became the assistant 
Pastor and Mary was on the Trustee Board.
 After Frank’s death in 1986, Mary moved in with her oldest daughter,
 Rachel. Within the last 12 or so years of Mary's life, she and Rachel 
moved to Kansas. They joined Lenora Church of God where she attended 
faithfully until her health no longer permitted.
 Her gentle, sweet spirit made her a beloved member of the church.
 On October 23, with her daughter at her side, she slipped peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
 Absent from the body, present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8b
 The service for Mary Louise Mapps will be held at Lenora Church of 
God on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 12 noon, 120 West Iowa Ave, Lenora,
 KS 67645. Private Burial will be held at a later date at the Riverside

Carolyn M. (Windholz) Pfannenstiel, age 75, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born June 26, 1945, in Hays, Kansas, to Otto and Blanche (Weber) Windholz. &nbsp; &nbsp;

She had a love for fashion which led her to a career in the clothing industry as manager and buyer for many years, retiring in 2011.&nbsp; Carolyn grew up in Victoria, Kansas and attended Victoria High School.&nbsp; She lived in Hutchinson, and Austin before moving to Salina.&nbsp; She also enjoyed bowling, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline O’Riley and husband, Darin; her son, Kevin Pfannenstiel and wife, Kathleen; her son-in-law, Matthew Howell; grandchildren, Brittany Lawrence and husband, Tyler; Brianna Augustine and husband, Tyler; Riley Pfannenstiel; and Ethan Pfannenstiel; great-grandchildren Taylee, Brydon, Kaden, Bryn, Karson, Emerie, and Ezr; her brothers ,Virgil Windholz and wife, Lou; Otto Windholz Jr. and wife, Jackie; her sister, Charlotte Blake and husband, Don; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Schmidtberger; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Pamela Howell; and her sister, Louise Schmidtberger.

A memorial Mass celebrating Carolyn’s life will be said at 11:00 A.M. Saturday,&nbsp; November 6, 2021, at the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; All are invited.&nbsp;

Private family graveside services were held at St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

Carolyn M. (Windholz) Pfannenstiel

Ronald David Walz, 85, of Colby, KS died, as a result of a fall, on 
October 26, 2021, at Swedish Hospital in Denver, CO. He was born July 22,
 1936, in Wichita, KS to Henry David and Hattie Simons Walz. 
Ron grew up in El Dorado, KS where he graduated from El Dorado High 
School in 1954. He went into the Navy and served for four years after 
which he attended El Dorado Junior College and later graduated from 
Kansas State University with a BS in social studies in secondary 
education and a MS in counseling and administration. 
Ron was united in marriage to Marilyn Abraham on July 30, 1961, and 
celebrated 60 years of marriage this past summer. Ron spent his years 
in education as a teacher, counselor, administrator, and GED tester in 
Westmoreland, Beloit, Colby, and Norton, KS. He loved working with his 
students and wherever we went, people would come up and identify 
themselves as former students. Many thanked him for being there for them
 or helping them believe in themselves when they needed support. 
He had a good sense of humor and liked sharing a good laugh or story. 
Ron was a people person and was always glad to help you if he could. He 
served Meals on Wheels for twelve years and volunteered at the Colby 
Visitor Center. He helped teach Financial Stewardship classes at his 
church for 17 years. Ron claimed the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior, 
and his goal was to walk out his faith. Serving the Lord in our church 
was important to him and he served as board member, treasurer, greeter, 
and usher. He was so proud of all his children and grandchildren and 
loved being a part of their lives and following their progress. 
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; Lela Jantz, Doyle Walz, and sister-in-law, Alice Walz. 
Ron is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the home, daughters; Beth 
Snodgrass, Marcy DeKoning (Rod) and Christi Gordon (Jason), and son; 
Bryan Walz; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 
A cremation memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 
10:30am at College Drive Assembly of God Church, Colby, KS. Burial will 
be at Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado, KS on November 6, 2021, 
at 4:00pm.

Ron Walz

Loarn Leo Bucl, 69, of Sublette, died Monday, October 25, 2021, in 
hospice in Kansas City, after a long battle with cancer. He was born 
October 11, 1952, in La Crosse, KS, to Ernest and Hedy Bucl.

He graduated from Otis-Bison High School and attended Kansas State 
University, earning a bachelor's degree in Crop Protection. On April 16,
 1977, he married Janet Sullivan in Holton. They made their home in 
Sublette, where he established and ran a business as a crop consultant 
in the Southwest Kan. region.

Loarn had a passion for all things related to agriculture, including 
crop production and entomology.&nbsp; He loved to teach and share his 
knowledge with others.&nbsp; He was an avid hunter and enjoyed sharing these 
experiences with family and friends.&nbsp;

He was an active member and served on the boards of the National 
Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants, Kansas Association of 
Independent Crop Consultants, and the Foundation for Environmental 
Agriculture Education. Survivors include his four sons, Casper 
(Jenni) of McKinney, TX, Lucas (Lindsay) of Overland Park, KS, Sheldon 
of Overland Park, KS, and Colby of Lenexa, KS; three brothers, Craig, 
Bradley, &amp; Bryan; one sister, Diana Sunley; and five grandchildren, 
Mackenzie, Owen, Carter, Jackson and Leo. He was preceded in death by 
his wife, Janet; mother Hedy and father Ernest. Visitation will 
be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Bryant 
Funeral Home in Great Bend, with prayer service and time of sharing at 
7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, 
November 5, 2021, at&nbsp;Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken.&nbsp;Interment

A Memorial Mass 
for Marietta L. Dreiling will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 
11:00 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with
 Father Thomas Lux as Celebrant.&nbsp; Rosary will be recited prior to the 
Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the church.&nbsp; &nbsp;A private inurnment will be
 held at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Marietta 
Lee (Munk) Dreiling passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021 
surrounded by her family.&nbsp; Marietta was 76 years young and spent the 
last 16 years of her life fighting a hard fight against breast cancer. 
Marietta was born in Quinter, Kansas on October 21, 1945 to Joseph and 
Mary Esther (Schmidt) Munk. She was the 5th of 11 children and grew up 
on a farm in Oakley, Kansas where she graduated from high school and 
then attended one year of college at Fort Hays State University. 
Marietta wanted to be a nurse, but after one year of college, met the 
love of her life and married Clarence (Butch) Dreiling on August 21, 
1965. Butch and Marietta were blessed with 56 years of marriage, three 
children:&nbsp; Kelly, Leslee, and Matt, and their seven grandchildren. 
They’ve shared their last 44 years of marriage in Holdrege.&nbsp;

Marietta 
stayed home with the kids until all of them were in school and then 
worked at Home Federal Bank for many years, until retiring in 1996.&nbsp; 
After retiring, Marietta was eager to be a full-time grandma, being 
present for as many of their special events and activities as possible.&nbsp;
 She was always the first one to help when a new grandbaby arrived! All 
seven were her pride and joy!

Marietta was
 a role model of service to her community, church, and hospital.&nbsp; For 
many years, she helped decorate the hospital for Christmas and other 
special events.&nbsp; She was a member of the Alter Society at the All Saints
 Catholic Church in Holdrege, a member of Chapter HM P.E.O., and the 
Hospital Service League. Marietta was a loyal member of the Prairie 
Quilt Guild and made countless visits to quilt shops all over the 
Midwest with her fellow members.&nbsp; She put endless love into designing 
and making personalized quilts for her grandchildren and other family 
members, as well as donating her beautiful creations for various 
fundraisers. Along with her quilting, Marietta was a Master Gardener and
 created so many beautiful masterpieces, in her garden and wherever she 
found potential for another masterpiece.

Marietta was 
an avid golfer in her day and loved being a part of the ladies league. 
She even managed the golf course for a short time. Marietta also loved 
playing Bridge and played for years, teaching others how to play along 
the way. She always looked forward to her time with her friends.&nbsp; 
Lastly, Marietta never let a good glass (or bottle) of Cabernet go to 
waste. She loved her glass of wine, especially when she was with friends
 and family.

Marietta was 
preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings:&nbsp; Naydene Spresser; 
Billie Jean Ostemeyer; Gerrie Munk; and Keith Munk.

Marietta is 
survived by her husband, Clarence “Butch” Dreiling of Holdrege; two 
daughters: &nbsp;Kelly (Clinton) Ratliff of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and Leslee
 (Brian) Valenta of Grimes, Iowa; son, Matt (Tiffany) Dreiling of

Lee (Munk) Dreiling passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021 
surrounded by her family.&nbsp; Marietta was 76 years young and spent the 
last 16 years of her life fighting a hard fight against breast cancer. 
Marietta was born in Quinter, Kansas on October 21, 1945 to Joseph and 
Mary Esther (Schmidt) Munk. She was the 5th of 11 children and grew up 
on a farm in Oakley, Kansas where she graduated from high school and 
then attended one year of college at Fort Hays State University. 
Marietta wanted to be a nurse, but after one year of college, met the 
love of her life and married Clarence (Butch) Dreiling on August 21, 
1965. Butch and Marietta were blessed with 56 years of marriage, three 
children:&nbsp; Kelly, Leslee, and Matt, and their seven grandchildren. 
They’ve shared their last 44 years of marriage in Holdrege.&nbsp;Marietta 
stayed home with the kids until all of them were in school and then 
worked at Home Federal Bank for many years, until retiring in 1996.&nbsp; 
After retiring, Marietta was eager to be a full-time grandma, being 
present for as many of their special events and activities as possible.&nbsp;
 She was always the first one to help when a new grandbaby arrived! All 
seven were her pride and joy!Marietta was
 a role model of service to her community, church, and hospital.&nbsp; For 
many years, she helped decorate the hospital for Christmas and other 
special events.&nbsp; She was a member of the Alter Society at the All Saints
 Catholic Church in Holdrege, a member of Chapter HM P.E.O., and the 
Hospital Service League. Marietta was a loyal member of the Prairie 
Quilt Guild and made countless visits to quilt shops all over the 
Midwest with her fellow members.&nbsp; She put endless love into designing 
and making personalized quilts for her grandchildren and other family 
members, as well as donating her beautiful creations for various 
fundraisers. Along with her quilting, Marietta was a Master Gardener and
 created so many beautiful masterpieces, in her garden and wherever she 
found potential for another masterpiece.Marietta was 
an avid golfer in her day and loved being a part of the ladies league. 
She even managed the golf course for a short time. Marietta also loved 
playing Bridge and played for years, teaching others how to play along 
the way. She always looked forward to her time with her friends.&nbsp; 
Lastly, Marietta never let a good glass (or bottle) of Cabernet go to 
waste. She loved her glass of wine, especially when she was with friends
 and family.Marietta was 
preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings:&nbsp; Naydene Spresser; 
Billie Jean Ostemeyer; Gerrie Munk; and Keith Munk.Marietta is 
survived by her husband, Clarence “Butch” Dreiling of Holdrege; two 
daughters: &nbsp;Kelly (Clinton) Ratliff of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and Leslee

Vernon Joseph Rietcheck

Henrietta Haselhorst, 90, Hays, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Via Christi Village.

She was born January 14, 1931, in 
Liebenthal, the daughter of Isidore and Albertina (Legleiter) Herrman.&nbsp; 
On June 12, 1950, she was united in marriage to Harold F. Haselhorst at 
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal.&nbsp; They were married for almost 
64 years before he preceded her in death on April 28, 2014.&nbsp; She began 
her career as an office worker at St. Anthony Hospital and was the first
 secretary at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.&nbsp; Harold and 
Henrietta were charter members of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, 
she belonged to the St. Nicholas Ladies Guild, and was actively involved
 with the church.&nbsp; She loved playing Pinochle, Pitch, and Poker, and 
always had a little container of coins should she need them for Poker.&nbsp; 
She was an avid Scrabble player and a fierce competitor that challenged 
her opponents.&nbsp; Henrietta was an excellent cook and loved providing 
wonderful meals for her family.&nbsp; As a mother of ten children, she also 
canned much of the garden produce.&nbsp; Her pickles were always a hit at 
family meals.&nbsp; She enjoyed trying new recipes from Capper’s Weekly and 
Taste of Home magazines.&nbsp; All were welcome at her table to enjoy her 
creations.

Survivors include three sons: Glenn 
Haselhorst and wife Sonya of Hays, Gary Haselhorst and wife Sandy of 
Hays, and Kenneth Haselhorst and wife Becky of Olathe, five daughters: 
Lila Montgomery and husband Bill of Hays, Sheila Thompson and husband 
Mike of McKinney, TX, Diane Haselhorst of Shawnee, Nadine McGrath of 
Kansas City, and Stacey Haselhorst of Lee’s Summit, MO, a son-in-law: 
Frank Muñoz of South Sioux City, NE, a daughter-in-law: Beth Haselhorst 
of Hays, a brother: William “Bill” Herrman and wife Lucy of La Crosse, 
two sisters: Mary Catherine Dreher of Plainville and Georgiana Herrman 
of Austin, TX, a sister-in-law: Alice Herrman of Kingman, 23 
grandchildren: Rebecca Eckhoff and husband Mark, Ricky Muñoz and wife 
Christine, Michelle Muñoz, Anthony Muñoz, Troy Haselhorst, Kyle

 granddaughter: Lindsey Jacques.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic 
Church with Fr. Damian Richards and Fr. Dan Scheetz officiating.&nbsp; Burial
 will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm 
until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 10:00 on Tuesday, all at the
 church.&nbsp; A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Monday at the

Brandon Allen Deutscher passed away suddenly at his home in Plainville, 
Kansas on October 25, 2021, at the age of 42. He was born to Stan and 
Linda (Kreutzer) Deutscher on October 13, 1979, in Plainville, Kansas.
 Brandon, lovingly known as “Uncle Bam Bam”, attended Plainville 
schools and graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 
1997. He went to work as a welder after high school until his health 
prohibited him from working. He was shy and introverted until he got to 
know you, and then he was a prankster and loved to make you laugh. 
Brandon was very family-oriented and loved his brother, Brian and his 
nieces. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was a sports 
enthusiast enjoying football and baseball. Later in his life he enjoyed 
bowling with his friends.
 He is survived by his parents, Stan and Linda Deutscher of 
Plainville; grandmother, Marlene Deuthscher of Ellis, KS; brother, Brian
 Deutscher of Plainville; and nieces, Elizabeth, Madison, and Isabella 
Deutscher.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021,
 at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. 
Visitation will be on Thursday at the funeral home from 2PM until 8PM

Anna Mae “Binkie” Miller was born January 17, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA. 
She was the daughter of George M. and Anna May (Beck) Gastiger. She was
 a longtime Abilene and Solomon area resident. She passed away Monday, 
October 25, 2021, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina at the 
age of 80. 
On February 14, 1959, Binkie was united in marriage to James “Jim” Mack 
Miller. Anna Mae was a homemaker and a member of the First Southern 
Baptist Church in Abilene. She enjoyed embroidering and volunteered at 
the Abilene Food Bank. She loved spending time with her grandchildren 
and great grandchildren. Her greatest love was her faithful companion 
Grassy (her dog). 
What made her the most proud was seeing her children, grandchildren, and
 great grandchildren grow up. Spending every minute with them made her 
life worthwhile. She treasured her friends and her church family. She 
enjoyed sitting on the front porch reading and embroidering. She loved 
her country life. Her door was always open to friends and family. 
Anna Mae is survived by her children Kathy Anne (Michael) McCulley of 
Mesa, Arizona, Tammy Anne Billinger of Hays, Glenn Michael (Tanna) 
Miller of Lyons, Mary Anne Miller resides overseas, 11 grandchildren
 and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 
loving husband Jim on August 12, 1997, her son James “Jason” Miller in 
1992, and her parents. 
A celebration of life service for Binkie will be 10:30 am, Monday, 
November 1, 2021, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Abilene with 
Pastor Kirby Benisch officiating.

Pammie Rose Shank, 58, passed away October 18, 2021, at her home in Larned.

She was born February 7, 1963, in Aransas Pass, TX, the daughter of 
Clinton Harold and Iona “Betty” Bethine Norris Lauber. A longtime area 
resident, she was the Assistant Cashier for 32 years at the Fusion Bank 
(First State Bank) in Larned.

She was a member of the Larned Area Chamber Ambassadors and a past 
member of the Jaycees Club.&nbsp; She enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved to 
travel.

On May 1, 1989, she married Jan Arlyn Shank in Las Vegas, N.V. He survives.

Michael Ray Pavlu, 63, passed away as a result of an auto accident on
 October 24, 2021.&nbsp; Mike was born on March 8, 1958, in Albuquerque, NM.&nbsp; 
The son of Anthony J (Tony) and MaryAnn Pavlu.&nbsp; He attended grade school
 at Sacred Heart School and graduated high school from Ness City High 
School in 1976.

Mike was raised on the family farm near Brownell where he found the 
love for livestock and farming. During the early years after high school
 Mike was employed by Rickel Inc. in Ness City and was a Driller for 
Dunne-Gardner Drilling Co.

His love for agriculture led him into a partnership of forage 
harvesting with his brother, Marty, and Daryl Barricklow. After Marty’s 
death, he formed Pavlu Harvesting where he employed several locals and 
South Africans over the years.

He later relocated to Norman, OK where he was Ranch Manager for Travis Ranch.

Mike is survived by daughter Tanya Pierce (Ernest) and great 
granddaughter Katelyn Warren.&nbsp; Three sons – Aiden, Austin, and Anthony 
of Norman, OK.&nbsp; His mother, MaryAnn Pavlu of Ness City.&nbsp; Two brothers, 
Ken Pavlu (Susan) of Overland Park and Ashley Pavlu (Tanya) of Blue 
Springs, MO. Four sisters, Tonetta Stieben (Nick) of Bazine, Diana 
Kuhlman (Russel) of Dighton, Gina Harris (Greg) of Smithville, MO and 
Vickie Hennes (Kevin) of Topeka. Numerous nieces and nephews and great 
nieces and great nephew, along with his two fur buddies – Sugar and 
Travis, whom never left his side.

Melba Jean (Coons) Winter passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at her home near Kanorado, Kansas.&nbsp; Melba was born in Colorado and raised in western Kansas. She attended grade school in Ruleton, Kansas, and graduated from Sherman County High School with the class of 1952. &nbsp;

Melba was the second of four daughters born to Melvine and Loda (Price) Coons.&nbsp; She married Jerry Winter in Goodland on July 14, 1953, and the couple raised three sons: Gary (Deb) of Kanorado, Larry (Janet) of Fairbury, Nebraska, Terry of Parker, Colorado.&nbsp;

Melba was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a former 4-H leader.&nbsp; Melba graduated with the first cosmetology class from the Northwest Kansas Technical School in 1969.&nbsp; She operated her own beauty salon for many years. &nbsp;

Melba is survived by her husband, Jerry, of the home, their three sons and the following grandchildren.&nbsp; Grandchildren and great grandchildren are:&nbsp; Sean and Shawndra (Colorado Springs, CO) Landri and Camden; Blake and Molly (Wheat Ridge, CO) Paisley and Case; Jonathan and Emily (Fairbury, NE) Delilah, Mae, Pippa; Aubrea and Beto (Goodland); Lane and Britney (Parker, CO) Cole and Austin; Shane and Carley (Fairbury, NE) Presley and Lawson. &nbsp;

Melba is also survived by her sisters Carol (Phil) Merz (Parker, CO) and Cheryl Coons (Castle Rock, CO) and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Daniel L. Harsch, 72, passed away October 24, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born November 20, 1948, at Bernalillo, New Mexico, the son of 
Thomas B. and Geraldine M. Driscoll Harsch Jr. Moving from Colorado to 
Larned in 1971, he was a longtime area resident and was a former Police 
Officer, EMT, and retired from the Larned State Hospital in 2010.

He was of the Catholic religion and was a member of the V.F.W., 
American Legion, American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard, all of Larned 
and served in the United States Marine Corp during Vietnam.

Survivors include: Longtime companion, Jeannie Beer, Larned; 
step-daughter, Stephanie A. Yahne, Lakeside, CA; two sisters, Patricia 
(Terri Coomer) Harsch, Fort Collins, CO, Kimberly (Russ) Bird, San 
Diego, CA; one brother, Herbie Pirrung, Austin, TX; grandson, Wyatt 
Tatloc, Lakeside, CA; nieces and nephews, BJ (Alisha), Jamie (Dani), 
Bennett (Nikki), Kolby, Slater.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Francis Pirrung, Michael Harsch&nbsp; and his stepmother, Gretchen Harsch.

Ralph T. Waldschmidt, age 90, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Hays Medical Center. He was born May 26, 1931, in Ellis, Kansas, to Herman and Pauline (Boos) Waldschmidt.&nbsp;He graduated from Ellis High School in 1949.

Ralph was a US Army veteran proudly serving his country in Korea in 1952-1953.&nbsp; On January 25, 1955, he married Dorothy (Helget) at St. Mary’s Church in Ellis.

Ralph had worked for Nicholson Brothers Lumber, Travenol and retired from Ellis County Road and Bridge Department. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ellis VFW, and a 3rd&nbsp;degree Ellis Knights of Columbus member. He enjoyed drawing, carving, collecting coins and rocks, Notre Dame football, attending Ellis High School sporting events and especially those his grandchildren participated in.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Dorothy of the home in Ellis; three daughters, Denise Jeffus and husband Michael of Hays, Andrea Wolf and husband Jack of Ellis and Wendy Honas and husband Randy of Ellis; a brother, Leo Waldschmidt of Wichita, a sister, Marilyn Walters of Walla Walla, Washington; six grandchildren, Andy Jeffus, Aaron Jeffus, Haley Wolf, Taylor Honas, Samuel Honas and Toby Honas; a brother-in-law, Dick Rodriguez of Rolla, Kansas and a sister-in-law, June Waldschmidt of Derby, Kansas.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Waldschmidt; a sister, Catherine Rodriguez; a brother-in-law, Dick Walters and a sister-in-law, Joyce Waldschmidt.

Ralph T. Waldschmidt

Linda Fern (Croft) Maser, widow of Virgil Maser, left this world to 
be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. She was born Linda Fern 
Croft in Larned, Kansas on November 17, 1933, daughter of Royal (R.O.) 
and Blanch (Wheeler) Croft of Hodgeman County. She was the youngest of 
four children.

She must have liked Virgil because she eloped May 16, 1952 and 
married him again 50 years later at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Great 
Bend, KS, surrounded by her children, friends and family. They lived a 
short time in Hodgeman County then Hutchinson, Kansas but spent the 
better part of their life together in Great Bend, Kansas. They were 
married for 62 years and raised eight children.

Linda was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great 
grandmother. She “could get lost in a book” and her love for reading 
lasted a lifetime. She was second in her eighth grade graduating class 
and the Bazine High School Class of ’51 Salutatorian. She was active in 
4-H where she learned to sew. And if she got it wrong, her mom would rip
 it out and make her do it again! She was most proud of her blue ribbons
 for sheep, sewing and cooking. She continued the 4-H legacy with her 
own children. She attended Fort Hays State University for one year.

Linda was a restaurant owner—the original “Granny” from Granny’s 
Kitchen—seamstress, painter/artist, quilter, and a thrifty entrepreneur.
 Over the years, she made and sold care bears, her paintings, denim 
quilts and offered the community a traveling baked goods shop where 
everything was delicious and fresh! She had a love for music from 
stepping out on the dance floor and kicking up some dust to her 
beautiful soprano vocals at church.

She knew that life would never be handed to her—she’d have to go out 
and get it. Her advice was to “turn things that trouble you over to God 
and if he thinks they need fixed he’ll go the last mile.”

After her mother passed away, Linda cared for her father for nine 
years in her Great Bend home. Once their children were living life, she 
and Virgil would travel for Shaklee conventions and bowling trips. They 
visited New York City, Washington D.C., the Caribbean and Hawaii amongst
 many other cities and sites throughout the U.S.

After Virgil passed in 2013, Linda lived with her daughter and son-in-law near Pawnee Rock, Kansas. She enjoyed the farm life.

Survivors include, her children, Michael Maser (Mary), El Paso, TX, 
Daniel Maser (Carol), Great Bend, Cindy Rogers, Rush Center, Benjamin 
Maser (Marisa), Hutchinson, Laura Straub (Travis), Pawnee Rock, Sandra 
Geschwentner (Brent), Belle Plaine, DeAnna Maser (Santo), Palm Harbor, 
FL, and daughter-in-law Shirley Maser, Seward; seventeen grandchildren: 
Brian and Michelle; Shannon, Dal, Christopher and Brandon; Joseph and 
Jeanna; Amanda, Matthew and Dakota; Brandon, Allyson and Grant; Joshua, 
Jordan and Jacob; and more than a dozen great grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by twin daughters, Jeannie and Janet; her parents; her
 husband, Virgil Maser; a son, Kim Ivan Maser; and siblings Nina, Loren 
and Maxine.

Linda lived many years with dementia—but it did not define her. She 
could often be found smiling, singing “Clementine,” or playing a unique 
combo of “Chop Sticks” and “How Great Thou Art.” She is loved and will 
be missed.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 31, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to
 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 
1, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with Reverend 
Tim Bever and Pastor Tim Singleton presiding. Interment will be in 
Burdett Cemetery, Burdett. Memorials have been designated to RSVP, in 
care of Bryant Funeral Home.

 </figure>Linda Fern (Croft) Maser, widow of Virgil Maser, left this world to 
be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. She was born Linda Fern 
Croft in Larned, Kansas on November 17, 1933, daughter of Royal (R.O.) 
and Blanch (Wheeler) Croft of Hodgeman County. She was the youngest of 
four children.She must have liked Virgil because she eloped May 16, 1952 and 
married him again 50 years later at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Great 
Bend, KS, surrounded by her children, friends and family. They lived a 
short time in Hodgeman County then Hutchinson, Kansas but spent the 
better part of their life together in Great Bend, Kansas. They were 
married for 62 years and raised eight children.Linda was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great 
grandmother. She “could get lost in a book” and her love for reading 
lasted a lifetime. She was second in her eighth grade graduating class 
and the Bazine High School Class of ’51 Salutatorian. She was active in 
4-H where she learned to sew. And if she got it wrong, her mom would rip
 it out and make her do it again! She was most proud of her blue ribbons
 for sheep, sewing and cooking. She continued the 4-H legacy with her 
own children. She attended Fort Hays State University for one year.Linda was a restaurant owner—the original “Granny” from Granny’s 
Kitchen—seamstress, painter/artist, quilter, and a thrifty entrepreneur.
 Over the years, she made and sold care bears, her paintings, denim 
quilts and offered the community a traveling baked goods shop where 
everything was delicious and fresh! She had a love for music from 
stepping out on the dance floor and kicking up some dust to her 
beautiful soprano vocals at church.She knew that life would never be handed to her—she’d have to go out 
and get it. Her advice was to “turn things that trouble you over to God 
and if he thinks they need fixed he’ll go the last mile.”After her mother passed away, Linda cared for her father for nine 
years in her Great Bend home. Once their children were living life, she 
and Virgil would travel for Shaklee conventions and bowling trips. They 
visited New York City, Washington D.C., the Caribbean and Hawaii amongst
 many other cities and sites throughout the U.S.After Virgil passed in 2013, Linda lived with her daughter and son-in-law near Pawnee Rock, Kansas. She enjoyed the farm life.Survivors include, her children, Michael Maser (Mary), El Paso, TX, 
Daniel Maser (Carol), Great Bend, Cindy Rogers, Rush Center, Benjamin 
Maser (Marisa), Hutchinson, Laura Straub (Travis), Pawnee Rock, Sandra 
Geschwentner (Brent), Belle Plaine, DeAnna Maser (Santo), Palm Harbor, 
FL, and daughter-in-law Shirley Maser, Seward; seventeen grandchildren: 
Brian and Michelle; Shannon, Dal, Christopher and Brandon; Joseph and 
Jeanna; Amanda, Matthew and Dakota; Brandon, Allyson and Grant; Joshua, 
Jordan and Jacob; and more than a dozen great grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by twin daughters, Jeannie and Janet; her parents; her
 husband, Virgil Maser; a son, Kim Ivan Maser; and siblings Nina, Loren 
and Maxine.Linda lived many years with dementia—but it did not define her. She 
could often be found smiling, singing “Clementine,” or playing a unique 
combo of “Chop Sticks” and “How Great Thou Art.” She is loved and will 
be missed.Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 31, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to
 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 
1, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with Reverend 
Tim Bever and Pastor Tim Singleton presiding. Interment will be in 
Burdett Cemetery, Burdett. Memorials have been designated to RSVP, in

Linda Fern Maser

Clark Dale McEachern, 57, passed away September 24, 2021, in Lake 
Charles, La. He was born on December 27, 1963 at Benkelman, Neb. to Don 
and Kay (Smith) McEachern. He married LaNette Morlock in 1980 and they 
later divorced. He then married Joan Dekle in August 2009.

Clark had a passion for all things related to the water. He 
especially loved fishing and was the Captain of a supply boat. He also 
loved spending time with his dogs, hunting, and riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include, his mother and stepfather, Kay and Gail Hulse of 
Great Bend; his wife, Joan McEachern of Freeport, Fla.; a son, Shawn 
McEachern of Moorehead, Mont.; his sister, Tonna Thomas and her 
significant other Chad Betts of Newton; a stepdaughter, Cami Dekle; and a
 half brother, Christopher McEachern. He was preceded in death by his 
father, Don McEachern.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021, at Bryant 
Funeral Home, with Reverend Bill Salmans presiding. Inurnment will be in
 Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Memorials have been designated to 
Chasing Tails Rescue or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant 
Funeral Home.

Former Logan, KS resident David P. Rundle of Wichita, KS, passed away
 Monday October 25, 2021, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS at 
the age of 63.

He was born July 19, 1958, in Logan, KS the son of John “Jack” W. and Sylvia (Wood) Rundle.

Survivors include his brothers Tim and wife Noreen of Washington, KS,
 Michael of Lawrence, KS, Leland of Logan, KS, James and wife Cindy of 
McPherson, KS; sisters Shirley Mendoza of Phillipsburg, KS and Kathleen 
Brewster and husband Gary of Overland Park, KS; a sister-in-law Carolyn 
Rundle of Wichita, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 
30, 2021, at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Logan, KS with Fr. John

Joseph P. “Joe” Strait, 57, of Salina, Kan., passed away Monday, 
October 25, 2021. He was born on January 4, 1964, in Concordia, Kan., to
 Mel O. and Martha (Breault) Strait.

Joe attended schools in Salina and participated in Special Olympics 
bowling, receiving many awards. He attended Bethpage and worked as a 
dining room attendant at Taco John’s since 2001.

Survivors include his parents; sister, Sheri King (William), of 
Lewis, Kan.; brother, Kenneth (Mary), of Salina; nephews, Lucas, Alex, 
and Evan King; and nieces, Kayla King, and Allison, Ashley and Anna 
Strait.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Conner King.

Stephen E. Miller, 79, of Salina, Kan., passed away Tuesday, October 
26, 2021. He was born in Salina on August 22, 1942, to Cal and Neva 
(Ditto) Miller.

Steve was joined in marriage to Karen Bullock on August 23, 1959, in 
Salina. He was a loving husband and a retired Navy veteran. Steve was an
 avid hunter and fisherman and fan of KU and the Washington Redskins.

Survivors include his children, Scott Miller, of Salina, Stacey 
Hines, of Larned, Todd Miller (Denise), of Solomon, and Larry Miller 
(Tami), of Salina; sisters, Judy Calfee (Fred), Sherry Wiedmer, and 
Rhonda Vignery; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen; and granddaughter, Emily Miller.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 30, at the Bennington City Cemetery.

Jimmy 'Jim' Shields

Connie Jean Keith, 61, of Hill City, Kansas gained her angel wings on 
October 18, 2021. Connie died at the Redbud Village Nursing Home in 
Plainville, Kansas, after a progressive battle with ALS.
 She was born July 31, 1960, in WaKeeney, Kansas, to the late Ronald 
and Barbara Jean (Collins) Keith. She was the oldest of the three 
children. Connie grew up with her younger brothers Ronnie and Kevin on 
the family farm in Graham County. She graduated from Morland High School
 in 1978 and attended Colby Community College for two years.
 November 9, 1987, her life changed forever when she welcomed her 
healthy son, Steven. He immediately became her whole world. Twenty-nine
 years later, July 1, 2016, Connie’s first granddaughter was born. In 
Connie’s eyes no baby could hold a candle to Emma. She loved her more 
than anything.
 For many years Connie worked in the food service industry, mainly as
 a waitress at the Western Hills Café, The Shack and Sub Station, in 
addition to the local grocery store. She later took a job at Dawson 
Place until her health no longer permitted it. 
 Connie truly lived life to the fullest, through simple pleasures. 
She enjoyed chatting with friends and family. She also loved to bake, 
especially chocolate chip cookies that were an all-time favorite of the 
grandkids.
 Preceding her in death were her parents; an uncle Max Keith and an 
aunt Darlene Ficken. Left to mourn her passing are her son Steve 
(Christie) Kreutzer of Hill City; two brothers: Kevin (Cindy) Keith of 
Morland and Ronald “Butch” Keith of Oberlin; her granddaughter, Emma 
Kreutzer of Hill City; two step-grandsons Joe Fry of WaKeeney and Noah 
Fry of Hill City; one niece, Julia Keith of Oakley and numerous aunts, 
uncles, cousins and friends.
 At the request of Connie, memorials are suggested to her
