Bert LeRoy Turner, age 80, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2021 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS in the care of Hospice.
He was born in Smith Center, KS on June 2, 1941 to Francis “Frank”
Henry Turner and Thelma L. Sheets. Bert attended grade school through
7th grade when he developed Rheumatic Fever. Bert was born with a
mental disability.
Bert lived many places from February 1960. He entered into DSNWK’s
services in April 1992 in Hays, KS. In 1986, he moved to Atwood, KS to
enter at the Prairie Developmental Center in their work adjustment
program. He moved back to Hays in January 1996 and lived in a group
home in Victoria, KS. He attended adult education and life management
programs at both the Reed Center in Hays, a service by DSNWK.
He never met a stranger. He enjoyed his DVD player, vinyl records,
tv game shows, and his cd’s especially Elvis Presley. He spent holiday
weekends either with his brother, Gary, in Dodge City or his sister,
Betty, at Lake Wabunsee near Eskridge, KS.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents, two nieces, step-father
Eugene “Olie” Crawford and all his beloved gradparents, aunts and
uncles.
He is survived by his brother and guardian Gary (Mary Racette) of
Dodge City, KS, sister Betty Bretz (Don) of Wamego, KS, half sister
Patricia (John) Hubl of Nebraska City, NE and many nieces and nephews.
