Emma “Granny Arlene” (Richardson) Wetzler, Stockton, KS, passed away on December 15, 2021, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, KS, at the age of 95. She was born on June 21, 1926, to Mack and Emma (Baird) Richardson in Luray, KS. She married Gerald Richard Wetzler on May 23, 1947, in Salina, KS. They were blessed with one daughter, Stephanie.

Arlene grew up in Luray and graduated from Luray High School with the Class of 1944. She was a homemaker in her early years, and later worked at the Lucas Nursing Home and Golden Living Center providing housekeeping and laundry service for 25 years. She also cleaned the church in Luray and taught Sunday school for many years. Arlene was very active in her church and community. She was a member of Luray United Methodist Church and V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed getting together with her friends at the Community Center every Thursday to color and then on to 183 Lanes for supper – even at 93! Most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids and even involved them in selling poppy flowers for the V.F.W. and always had an endless supply of junk food.

No matter the situation or the circumstances, Granny Arlene was always ready to lift us up and encourage us through the good times, as well as the bad. Her loving touch, comforting smile, and timeless wisdom will forever ring in our hearts as she reminds us, “This, too, shall pass.” Her legacy of strong faith helps us as she enters into eternal glory, where the old things have passed and all things will be made new.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Pfeifer (Steve) of Stockton; four grandchildren, Andy Williams (Becca), Colton Pfeifer (Rachelle), Miranda Brin (Jason), and Heather Shamburg (Preston); and nine great-grandchildren, Cameron, Teagann, Paisley, Abby, Hadleigh, Jo Jo, Jase, Tanner, and Sawyer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Emma Richardson; husband, Gerald Wetzler; and brothers, Mack, Jr., Johnny, Nolan, and Maurice.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Luray. Visitation will be held on Monday, 3 PM until 8 PM, with the family receiving friends 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, at the funeral home in Stockton; and 9:30 AM until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Luray UMC and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N 1st, Stockton, KS 67669
