Marietta Theresa Kamas was born on Saturday, August 14th, 1926, to Carl and Mary (Baumstimler) Koerner in Hays, Kansas. She passed away on Sunday, October 31st, 2021 in Denver, Colorado at the age of 95.

Marietta was one of three children born to Carl and Mary and 
she spent her early years in Hays, Kansas. She moved to Denver in her 
20s where she worked as a telephone operator. She met Stan Kamas 
during this time and they fell in love. They were married on March 13th,
 1949, in Denver. Together their raised four children, Tracy, Garry, 
Sherri, and Rob. In 1957, they moved to Boulder where they raised their 
family. She moved to Lafayette after her husband passed away in 1998.

Marietta was an incredibly talented cross-stitcher and won 
awards for this talent. She created hundreds of beautiful pieces for 
family and friends. Marietta was a loving mother, wife, and homemaker. 
She will be remembered for her kindness and the pieces she so carefully 
created will be cherished for many years to come.

Marietta is preceded in death by her loving husband, Stan 
Kamas; her parents, Mary and Carl Koerner of Hays, KS and Denver, CO 
respectively; her brother, Jak Koerner of Benicia, CA; her sister, 
Kathleen Hilgers of Surprise, AZ; and son-in-law, Dave Shinkle of 
Windsor, CO. 

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Cliff) Tuttle of 
Broomfield, CO; her son, Garry (Cheryl) Kamas of Lafayette, CO, their 
daughter, Candis (Ian) Hunter and their two sons, David and Graham; and 
their son Kyle (Ashley) Kamas and their daughters, Aurelia and Khloe; by
 her daughter, Sherri Shinkle of Windsor, CO, her children Erik Shinkle,
 Tyler Shinkle, Swoti (Eric) Wise, and Kanchana Shinkle; and by her son,
 Rob (Susie) Kamas of Longmont, CO, their children, Justin Kamas (Erin 
Rummel) and their son, Kase; Tiffany (Russ) Hebert and their son 
Stephen.

A private visitation and graveside service will be held to lay Marietta to rest.

Nola Ruth Seidel Van Scyoc, 95, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away 
November 4, 2021, in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born January 13, 1926, 
in Tipton, Kan., to Charles Jacob Seidel and Esther Elise Zimmerman 
Seidel. She earned her bachelor's degree at Fort Hays State 
University (Kansas) and served as Assistant to the Director of Secondary
 Education for a period. At various times, Nola was a teacher, 
secretary, librarian, Sunday School teacher, scout leader, volunteer, 
and tutor, but most of all, she enjoyed being a homemaker and 
participating in family activities. She was a member of St. John's 
Lutheran Church in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her 
husband of 60 years, Leo Ledgerwood Van Scyoc; a son-in-law, John Gordon
 Holcomb of Fayetteville; a step-grandson, Walter Aidan Robinson of 
Fayetteville; three brothers, Walter Seidel of Phillipsburg, Kan., 
Donald Seidel of Duluth, Ga., Eugene Seidel of Tipton, Kan.; and two 
sisters, Elna Germer of Hebron, Neb., and Vera Anne Hemphill of Lincoln,

Robyn Renee Appel, 57, passed away November 2, 2021 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS.

She was born July 6, 1964 in Dodge City, KS, the daughter of Johnnie 
D. and Kathleen “Kathy” A. Grumbein Appel.&nbsp; Robyn was friendly and full 
of energy.&nbsp; She would greet you with a hug, kiss, and pat!&nbsp; She loved 
babies, animals, (although all animals were “cats”) her stuffed animals,
 helping in the kitchen and going for car rides.&nbsp; She liked to laugh, be
 the center of attention and would get very excited about special 
occasions, especially if it was centered around her.&nbsp;

Robyn was mostly non-verbal and used sign language often to 
communicate. She struggled and often was frustrated trying to express 
her feelings.

Survivors include: two brothers, Mike (Phyllis) Appel, Dodge city and
 John Pat Appel, Topeka; three nephews, Jeremy (Ashley) Appel, Jetmore, 
Josh Appel, Mason City, IA, Caleb Appel, Topeka; niece, Amy (Jon) 
Eilert, Beloit and six great nieces and nephews, Korbin, Colt, Quinn, 
Callie, Kassidy, Cambryn and lots of friends.&nbsp; She will be greatly 
missed by all her caregivers and roommates who always looked out for 
her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Kathy Appel

Walter Franklin McCormick Jr. was born November 28, 1934, in Muskogee, 
OK. He passed away October 6, 2021, in Lenora, KS at the age of 86.
 Walter married Stella Louise Porter on July 17, 1971, in Reno, NV. He
 worked as a truck driver, hauling for Hanes Industry. Walter enjoyed 
visiting family and friends before the long trips became too painful.

Smith, sons, Johnny and Kenny Northern and siblings: Eileen, Orlen, and

Patricia Ann (Stapp) Wurm, 81, was born October 13, 1940, to Forrest and 
Nadine (Leopold) Stapp in Wilsonville, NE. Later raised by her 
stepfather Alva Van Vleet and Nadine. Patricia passed away on October 
31, 2021, at Ridgewood Care and Rehab in Seward, NE. 
 She attended school in Danbury, NE. After graduation she went to 
Secretarial School in Denver. On February 2, 1961, she married Dennis 
Wurm in Danbury at the home of her parents. They moved around some but 
lived most of their married life in Oberlin, KS. 
 She was an EMT for Decatur County for many years. Pat also filled in
 at the schools and courthouse in the janitorial department, she 
volunteered at the Senior Center and drove the meal site bus before 
suffering a stroke in 2019. That’s when she moved to Ridgewood Care and 
Rehab in Seward, NE. 
 She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oberlin, KS for 
many years. She enjoyed going to Bible study and visiting with people. 
She liked to go dancing and put puzzles together in her spare time. She 
especially enjoyed spending time with her family. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, and husband, Dennis.

1st, 2021, at his home. He was born August 9th, 1974, to Henry LaVon

Steven graduated from Colby High School in 1992. After graduation he 
attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Kansas City, MO where he 
graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering 
Technology in 1997. 
He was a freelance computer programmer and I.T. tech for several major companies. 
In June 2005, he married Elaine Gaither. 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry Von &amp; Mildred 
Elling and Leamon &amp; Edna Colson; and brother Henry Leamon Elling. 
He is survived by his father Henry LaVon Elling, of Colby, KS; mother 
and step-father Grace and Stan Kauk, Colby, KS; brother James (Shauna) 
Elling, Colby, KS; sister Martha (Steve) Plotner, Hays, KS;

Steven Wesley Elling

Homer Eugene Stepanek was born to Harrison and Amelia (Kiefer) on Aug. 6, 1934, the 8th of 11 children. 
 He graduated from Buchanan High School, Troy, MO, in 1952. After 
high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He has 
remained a Marine – proud of his country and the flag.
 He attended the University of MO majoring in Agriculture. He worked
 for Missouri University Extension Service for 10 years as a Balanced 
Farming and Livestock Agent.
 In 1963 he married Mary Lou Vaughn in Boonville, Mo where both were working for the University Extension Service.
 Two boys joined the family – Randy in 1964 and Rick in 1966.
 In 1972 the family moved to a small farm near Cainsville, MO where 
they engaged in raising livestock and made improvements on the family 
farm.
 In 1986 Homer and Mary Lou left Northern MO for the Navajo Indian 
Reservation. Receiving his license credentials after attending Trinity 
Bible College in Ellendale, ND, in 1990, they returned to the Navajo 
Reservation, pastoring in Gallup, NM and working at Navajo Ministries in
 Farmington, NM. For 14 years, they shared the Good News and love of 
Jesus.
 Homer had the privilege and honor of marrying his two sons – Randy and Shana Jolliff and Rick and Alice Batson.
 After returning to Missouri in 2000, he and Mary Lou settled in Easton, Mo.
 With a mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus, he served as a 
volunteer in Corrections for 16 years at Western MO Correctional Center,
 Cameron, MO and Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center 
in St. Joseph, MO.
 Homer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou; sons, Randy 
(Shana) Hillsboro, KS, and Rick (Alice) Easton, MO; brothers, Earl 
(Annette) Stepanek, O’Fallon, Oscar Stepanek, O’Fallon; sisters, Kitty

 </figure>Homer Eugene Stepanek was born to Harrison and Amelia (Kiefer) on Aug. 6, 1934, the 8th of 11 children. 
 He graduated from Buchanan High School, Troy, MO, in 1952. After 
high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He has 
remained a Marine – proud of his country and the flag.
 He attended the University of MO majoring in Agriculture. He worked
 for Missouri University Extension Service for 10 years as a Balanced 
Farming and Livestock Agent.
 In 1963 he married Mary Lou Vaughn in Boonville, Mo where both were working for the University Extension Service.
 Two boys joined the family – Randy in 1964 and Rick in 1966.
 In 1972 the family moved to a small farm near Cainsville, MO where 
they engaged in raising livestock and made improvements on the family 
farm.
 In 1986 Homer and Mary Lou left Northern MO for the Navajo Indian 
Reservation. Receiving his license credentials after attending Trinity 
Bible College in Ellendale, ND, in 1990, they returned to the Navajo 
Reservation, pastoring in Gallup, NM and working at Navajo Ministries in
 Farmington, NM. For 14 years, they shared the Good News and love of 
Jesus.
 Homer had the privilege and honor of marrying his two sons – Randy and Shana Jolliff and Rick and Alice Batson.
 After returning to Missouri in 2000, he and Mary Lou settled in Easton, Mo.
 With a mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus, he served as a 
volunteer in Corrections for 16 years at Western MO Correctional Center,
 Cameron, MO and Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center 
in St. Joseph, MO.
 Homer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou; sons, Randy 
(Shana) Hillsboro, KS, and Rick (Alice) Easton, MO; brothers, Earl 
(Annette) Stepanek, O’Fallon, Oscar Stepanek, O’Fallon; sisters, Kitty 
Powell, Siletz, OR, Melva Huber, Troy, MO; sister-in-law, Virginia 
Stepanek, Escondido, CA, Earlene Vaughn, Maysville, Noma Vaughn,

Homer Eugene Stepanek

Gloria Ellen Chard passed away on November 1, 2021, at the Hays Medical 
Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 84. She was born on May 22, 1937, 
to George and Lillian (Novotny) Stalnaker in Rooks County, Kansas. She 
was united in marriage to Vernon Dean Chard on June 15, 1953, in 
Stockton, Kansas. The couple was blessed with six children: Larry, Gary,
 Randy, Dave, Rodney, and Jan.
 Gloria grew up in Rooks County where she attended Plainville High 
School for a few years before completing her GED. She continued her 
education at NCK Nursing School and graduated with a nursing degree in 
1977. She worked at several facilities in the surrounding area before 
moving away in 1992. Gloria then pursued a career with the VA and 
retired in 2016. The couple moved to Hays and spent the rest of their 
days at Homestead of Hays.
 Gloria was an animal lover, especially birds and horses. She loved 
barrel racing and was a part of the Plainville Saddle Club for many 
years. She enjoyed being outside watching the birds eat from her many 
bird feeders, gardening, tending to her rose bushes or taking her family
 to Webster Lake to camp. Gloria was a big sports fan, she avidly 
watched the Chicago Bulls basketball team and Husker football. In her 
earlier years she traveled to watch the Huskers and even went to the 
Honolulu Bowl in Hawaii. Basketball was arguably her favorite sport, she
 even put on basketball tournaments for the Cancer Society for many 
years. Aside from her love of animals and sports, she always made the 
effort to attend her grandkids’ events until her health didn’t allow her
 to travel as much. Gloria was a member of the First Baptist Church of 
Plainville.
 Gloria is survived by her children, Gary (Sandra) Chard of Zurich, 
KS, Randy (Lynnie) Chard of Palco, KS, Dave (Sally) Chard of Wichita, 
KS, Rodney (Carrie) Chard of Plainville, and Jan Ward of Kansas City, 
MO; siblings, Carolyn Balderson of Tucson, AZ, Madge Mock of Tucson, AZ,
 Alan Stalnaker of West Valley, UT, Dianne Conway of Manhattan, KS, and 
Patty Foltz of Las Vegas, NV: fourteen grandchildren, Cynthia Finnesy, 
Jeremy Chard, Chanelle Chard, Billie Covington, Shawna Scates, Andrea 
McDonald, Angela DeQuasey, Jay Chard, Bradey Chard, Noah Chard, Chandler

Gloria Ellen Chard

Caprice Dawn Powell, 53, was a beautiful shining ray of light that was 
called home, on October 29, 2021, to a heaven she has been destined for 
since, February 5, 1968, the day God blessed our world with her in 
Spearville. Caprice was the loving daughter of Clarke and Jane 
(Skidmore) Blake. Caprices’ final moments were spent at Western Plains 
Medical Complex in Dodge City, with her family comforting her on her 
journey to Heaven. Caprice spent most of her pre-teen years in 
Tulsa, Oklahoma, making sure that she never missed a Sunday service, 
even if it meant hopping a ride on the Joy Bus, with her little sister 
in tow, when her parents weren’t going to make it to church that Sunday.
 Caprice and her family moved to Montezuma in her teen years where she 
enjoyed a change of lifestyle from the big city and ended up graduating 
from Montezuma High School in 1986. Caprice loved the idea of teaching 
and changing the lives of children. This love and passion drove her to 
attend and graduate from St. Mary of the Plains College, where she 
majored in education. After graduating, Caprice taught middle school in 
Garden City and Topeka. Afterwards, she taught 3rd grade at Berryton 
Elementary School before realizing she wanted to return to her 
small-town roots in southwest Kansas in 2013. Caprices’ return to 
southwest Kansas fulfilled her dream of truly making the biggest impact 
in her students’ life when she was appointed as the school counselor for
 USD 476 in Copeland, later counseling at Comanche Middle School, and 
most recently Southwestern Heights. Caprice utilized her beautifully 
large heart to make such an lasting&nbsp; impression on the kids she taught, 
that numerous children wrote her thank you letters proclaiming Caprice 
as “their second mom”. Caprice did not stop her campaign to care and 
change lives when the school doors closed. She also donated her time to 
be on the board of the HEART group and The Alley in Dodge City. Caprices’
 return to southwest Kansas seemed almost divine, as she would say, when
 she was reunited with her high school sweetheart and “person”, Glen 
Powell. Caprice and her “person” were united in marriage in 2014. There 
was never a day you didn’t walk into the Powell house and didn’t feel 
the aura of love radiating from Caprice as she would greet you with the 
biggest hug and sit down with you attentively listening to every word 
you spoke to her. Caprice loved spending time with her family, so much 
so, that she would sneak photos of every single one of them, just for 
her to hold onto and reminisce on the good times. Caprice had a radiant 
smile and laugh that could light up a room, and an ability to care for 
every single person in her life when they needed it. Caprice will be 
missed so dearly by everyone she knew and feeling the love she gave the 
world will be a task that can only be complete by trying our best to 
live as she did. Caprice is survived by her husband, Glen of 
Montezuma; children, Cole Schaffer (Kaylia), Madilyn Jayne Schaffer, 
Nicholas Powell, and Victoria Powell all of Montezuma; siblings, Niki 
Beaton (Joshua) of Scott City, Dan Holyfield (Karen) of Prescott, 
Arizona, David Holyfield of Queen Creek, Arizona, Debra Calvert (Bill) 
of Tennessee, Tena Walsh of Texas, and David Harp of Washington; two 
grandsons, Wyatt and Eli Schaffer of Montezuma; and many nieces, 
nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and a 
niece, Janielynn. Funeral service will be held at Cross 
Connection Church in Dodge City on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 10:30

Patricia Ann Inbody (nee Hrabik) passed away on October 31, 2021, in 
Independence, Missouri. She was born August 13, 1939, to Henry and 
Viola Hrabik in Wilson, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Frederick 
George Inbody, Jr. on October 2, 1959, having recently celebrated their 
62nd wedding anniversary.
 She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Viola Hrabik, and one brother, Larry Hrabik.
 Patricia is survived by her husband, Frederick George Inbody, Jr. of
 Independence, Missouri; daughter, Lori Inbody, granddaughter, Sabrina 
Schriefer, of Dallas, Texas; son, Mark (wife Dace) Inbody, grandsons, 
Liam Inbody, Kieran Inbody, Fergus Inbody, and Calder Inbody, of

Patricia Ann Inbody

Norma Brungardt, age 83 years old, of Ellis, Kansas, died Monday, November 1, 2021, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas. She was born February 17, 1938, in Damar, Kansas to Dolphis Senesac and Clara (LaBarge) Senesac. She married Elmer Brungardt on September 1, 1956, in Damar. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2017. Norma loved her family and spending time with them, attending Mass and would go daily and often twice on Sunday's, for many years she maintained the votive candles at St. Mary's. She also loved to play bingo. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Daughters of Isabella, and VFW Auxiliary.  </figure>Norma Brungardt, age 83 years old, of Ellis, Kansas, died Monday, November 1, 2021, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas. She was born February 17, 1938, in Damar, Kansas to Dolphis Senesac and Clara (LaBarge) Senesac. She married Elmer Brungardt on September 1, 1956, in Damar. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2017. Norma loved her family and spending time with them, attending Mass and would go daily and often twice on Sunday's, for many years she maintained the votive candles at St. Mary's. She also loved to play bingo. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Daughters of Isabella, and VFW Auxiliary. Norma Brungardt

Lori’s life began on February 13, 1971, at Luke Air Force Base near 
Phoenix, AZ. She was the daughter or Les (Brenda) Lalouette and Marilyn 
(Bezdek) Lalouette. Lori was a 1989 graduate of Marion High School and 
the class Salutatorian. She continued her education at Fort Hays State 
University before transferring to Wichita State where she graduated with
 a triple major and near the top of her class. Lori later went onto 
Washburn University where she earned a Juris Doctorate in Law. She 
worked as a computer systems engineer for several years prior to law 
school and after graduating in the top 10% of her class, opened her law 
practice in Hillsboro.

Lori served as a Marion County 
Commissioner and village attorney for Lincolnville. In high school, she 
participated in debate club and participated in FFA. Lori was an avid 
reader and researcher. If she did not know how to do something she 
researched the problem until she solved it. She never gave up. She also 
learned to be an amateur electrician, plumber, and carpenter. Lori and 
her spouse, Randy Crawford found each other in 2004 and never looked 
back. Lori is survived by her spouse Randy Crawford of 
Hillsboro; parents Les (Brenda) Lalouette of Florence, and Marilyn 
Lalouette of Newton. Lori passed away on October 29, 2021, at Newton 
Medical Center at 50 years old. She is preceded in death by her sister 
Lynette Roberts and beloved cat Mindy. Graveside services will 
be held on Thursday, November 4 at 2 p.m. at the Cedar Point Cemetery.

Lori L. Lalouette

William Joseph “Bill” Buyak passed away on October 30, 2021, at his home
 in Chase, Kansas at the age of 81. He was born to George and Helen 
(Antoszewski) Buyak on December 1, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan. Bill was 
the father to three children: Raymond, Sara, and Michael.
 Bill grew up in Michigan and attended high school there. Following 
high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Para 
Trooper in the 101st Airborne. Bill was proud of his service and shared 
stories of his time in foreign countries. Germany was his favorite 
because of the food! He earned several honors such as Good Conduct, 
Parachute Badge, and Rifleman Badge. When he was honorably discharged, 
he moved to Kansas and worked for the Oil Field as a Driller and Tool 
Pusher for 30 years until his retirement.
 Bill had a love for animals. He adopted his dog, Ruby from a pet 
shelter; and his other dog, Skippy was one of the many strays he fed 
that ended up staying with him. It was this daily example of living that
 he taught all of us what it truly means to love and care for one 
another, and live every day being grateful for the opportunity to humbly
 serve one another. Although he will be greatly missed, his love and 
influence will remain in the hearts and lives of family and friends. May
 his legacy inspire each of us to encourage one another, cherish the 
ties that bind, and live to serve God, Home, and Country everyday of our
 lives.
 Bill is survived by his children, Raymond Buyak and Sara Buyak and husband Daniel; and sister, Evelyn Roy all of Kansas.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Buyak;

Alwana Crutcher, 98, passed away November 2, 2021, in Hoisington.&nbsp; 
She was born November 27, 1922, in Newcastle, Texas, to Robert and 
Winnie (Blanton) Weatherbee.&nbsp; Alwana married William Crutcher July 20, 
1941, in Graham, Texas.&nbsp; He died Sept. 24, 1988.

Alwana, a resident of Hoisington since 1965, was a homemaker and 
devoted wife, daughter and grandmother.&nbsp; She was a life member of V.F.W.
 Auxiliary, Post 7428, Hoisington, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, 
crocheting and was a voracious reader.

Survivors include one son, Bill Crutcher of Hoisington; two 
daughters, Dianne Scott and Wynee Weatherbee of Hoisington, and Donita 
Crutcher of Hoisington; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.&nbsp;
 She was preceded in death by her husband, William Crutcher; son, Robert
 Crutcher; two sisters, Anna Mae Boren and Beulah J. Webb; and two 
grandsons, Brian Scott and Jordan Boor.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, at

Alwana Crutcher

Grace Nellie Stewart Satran, 96, of WaKeeney, Kansas passed away 
peacefully on November 1, 2021 at the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital.&nbsp; 
Grace Stewart Satran was born May 15, 1925, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 
Concordia, Kansas, to Grant I. and Nellie Sander Stewart.&nbsp; They took her
 home to Stockton where she grew up and graduated from Stockton High 
School.&nbsp; She graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, 
Kansas, and later received a Master’s degree from Fort Hays University.

Grace came to WaKeeney in 1950 to teach and married Joseph Satran at 
the Stockton Methodist Church on April 8, 1952.&nbsp; They lived on the 
Satran farm for thirty years and then moved to WaKeeney in 1982.

Grace and Joseph had three children, Dale Satran and wife, Phyllis of
 Cherryvale, Kansas, Glenetta Schierding and husband, Donald of Overland
 Park, Kansas and Jim Satran and wife, Debra of Ogallah, Kansas.&nbsp; They 
have 4 grandchildren, Nicole Michael and husband, Ben of Hill City, 
Kansas; Curtis Satran and wife Megan of WaKeeney, Kansas, Casey Satran 
of Central Point, Oregon, and Aaron Satran and fiancé Emma Anderson of 
WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp; Grace had 4 great grandchildren, Cora and Cordell 
Michael and Laurel and Collin Satran.

Grace was a member of First United Methodist Church in WaKeeney and 
was active in U.M.W. She served on many local and district committees.&nbsp; 
Grace loved to sing in the choir and play the organ and piano at 
church.&nbsp; She spent many hours practicing at church.&nbsp;

Grace was also a long time member of Harmony Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Locust Club and a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

Grace loved to spend time with her family.&nbsp; She would often cook 
Sunday Dinner for everyone where they would enjoy her famous cinnamon 
rolls.&nbsp;

Grace loved to travel and went on many bus tours with her daughter 
and friends.&nbsp; Her last voyage was to Alaska with her whole family to 
celebrate her 90th birthday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her three half-brothers, 
three half-sisters, her husband Joseph Satran, son-in-law, Donald 
Schierding, and son, Dale Satran.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, November 5, 2021, at the

Patricia A. Perry, 77, died November 1, 2021. She 
was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Hays, Ks, the youngest of thirteen children 
born to George J. and Katherine (Breit) Schmidt.&nbsp; She worked in the 
dietary dept. of the former St. John’s Hospital and volunteered at the 
Senior Center and in activities in several retirement centers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters and 5 brothers and her husband, Johnnie, in 2007.

She is survived by a brother, LeRoy Schmidt, Salina and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, 
November 5, 2021, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral, Salina. Burial 
will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina. Vigil services will be held
 Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at Ryan Mortuary where the family will

Herbert David Kraft, 92, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, November 2, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Herbert was born January 11, 1929, on the family farm south of Russell.&nbsp; He was one of twelve children born to David and Emma (Steinert) Kraft.&nbsp; He grew up and attended country schools in Russell County.

Herbert served his country in the U.S. Army in the Infantry during the Korean War in the years 1951 to 1953.&nbsp; After his tour of duty he returned to his family farm.

Herbert was united in marriage to Frances Ilene Fisher on August 25, 1954, in Ellsworth, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in the house he was born in.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children; Cathy, Terrence, Cindy and Daniel.&nbsp; Frances preceded him in death on April 27, 2014.

Herbert was a Farmer most all of his life on the farm he was born at.&nbsp; For a short time he also worked in the oil patch as a roughneck.&nbsp; He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 and the McDonald’s coffee group.&nbsp; He enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of his horses and animals.&nbsp; He liked playing Pitch and Dominoes.

Herbert’s surviving family include his daughters, Cathy Frazier of Salina, Kansas and Cindy Brownback (Terry) of Emporia, Kansas; sons, Terrence Kraft (Marcia) of Dodge City, Kansas and Daniel Kraft (Tracy) of Russell, Kansas; brother, Eugene Kraft (Phyllis) of Salina, Kansas; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, infant daughter and son, three brothers and seven sisters.

Celebration of Herbert’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 5, 2021, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.&nbsp; Cremation will follow the service.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp;

 </figure>Herbert David Kraft, 92, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, November 2, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.Herbert was born January 11, 1929, on the family farm south of Russell.&nbsp; He was one of twelve children born to David and Emma (Steinert) Kraft.&nbsp; He grew up and attended country schools in Russell County.Herbert served his country in the U.S. Army in the Infantry during the Korean War in the years 1951 to 1953.&nbsp; After his tour of duty he returned to his family farm.Herbert was united in marriage to Frances Ilene Fisher on August 25, 1954, in Ellsworth, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in the house he was born in.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children; Cathy, Terrence, Cindy and Daniel.&nbsp; Frances preceded him in death on April 27, 2014.Herbert was a Farmer most all of his life on the farm he was born at.&nbsp; For a short time he also worked in the oil patch as a roughneck.&nbsp; He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 and the McDonald’s coffee group.&nbsp; He enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of his horses and animals.&nbsp; He liked playing Pitch and Dominoes.Herbert’s surviving family include his daughters, Cathy Frazier of Salina, Kansas and Cindy Brownback (Terry) of Emporia, Kansas; sons, Terrence Kraft (Marcia) of Dodge City, Kansas and Daniel Kraft (Tracy) of Russell, Kansas; brother, Eugene Kraft (Phyllis) of Salina, Kansas; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, infant daughter and son, three brothers and seven sisters.Celebration of Herbert’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 5, 2021, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.&nbsp; Cremation will follow the service.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Herbert David Kraft

Phillipsburg resident Hester Kennis passed away Saturday, October 30th, 2021, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 99 years.

She was born February 28, 1922, in Tasco, KS the daughter of James I. and Ethel G. (Dooley) Sinclair.

Hester was united in marriage to John Kennis on April 21, 1940, in Phillipsburg, KS.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; She worked in the 
Kitchen at the Phillipsburg Elementary School, Golden Years Center, and 
Phillips County Long Term Care.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her husband John.

Survivors include her daughter Julie Kennis of Phillipsburg; sons 
James and wife Donna of Universal City, TX, John “J.D.” of Ft. Collins, 
CO, and Jesse and wife Judy of Pflugerville, TX; 16 grandchildren; 36 
great grandchildren; and 16 great great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5th, 2021 at the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood officiating.&nbsp; <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Olliff-Boeve-Memorial-Chapel-158648587502325/">The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.</a>

Phillipsburg resident Connie Jo Springer, age 67, passed away Friday, October 29th, 2021 at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS.

Connie was born August 18, 1954, in Manhattan, KS the daughter of Don and Bonnie (Sowell) Springer.

Survivors include her friend Merlyn Schick of Phillipsburg; brothers 
Russell of Manhattan, Jesse of Topeka, Ronald of Manhattan, a sister Joy
 Burgess of Manhattan; and nieces , nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald.

Connie Jo Springer

Karlynn Kay Brookhart Fabrizius Yanke, 85, of WaKeeney, Kansas, 
passed away on October 31, 2021, of a short illness not related to 
Covid. Karlynn was born in WaKeeney, Kansas on April 25, 1936. She 
graduated from Ellis High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor 
of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State 
University.

Karlynn was united in marriage to Elvin Carl Fabrizius on August 17, 
1958, and they were married 26 years. He preceded her in death on October
 27, 1984. Karlynn was united in marriage to Albert Ray Yanke on 
November 18, 2000. He survives of the home. She worked as an educator 
for 12 years from 1973-1985 for USD 208. Karlynn worked the rest of her 
career as a bookkeeper for the following; Trego County Implement, 
Trogstad Accounting, TWI &amp; Dietz Insurance and Deines Construction. 
She enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren, especially 
watching them in their sports and musical events. Karlynn loved outings 
such as the Botanical Gardens and zoos with her family. She enjoyed 
music and reading. In the last several years she really enjoyed taking 
wildlife rides in the country. She loved KU and WSU basketball, and 
Oklahoma State and Kansas State sports due to her grandchildren’s 
interests.

Karlynn played the organ for 55 years for Zion Lutheran Church and 
also accompanied the church choir. Karlynn also enjoyed playing the 
piano for the residents in the Long Term Care. She was a member of PEO, 
Zion WELCA, Friday Bridge Club, Birthday Club, and Monday Lunch Bunch. 
She was a former member of Harmony Club, The Entertainers-a musical 
performance group Literary Club, and Library Board. Karlynn was a Trego 
Hospital Foundation Board member for 21 years.

Karlynn is survived by Albert Yanke of the home, Alana Kasparek of 
Oskaloosa, Kansas, Alan Fabrizius and wife Laura of Wilson, Kansas, Amy 
Wilson and husband Keith of Riverton, Kansas, Ayn Wilson and husband Pat
 of Wichita, Kansas, Basil Yanke and wife Dea of Atchison, Kansas, 
Gretchen Hafliger and husband Fred of WaKeeney, Kansas. Karlynn is 
survived by her grandchildren; Joseph Kasparek (fiancé Bronte’), Kaitlin
 Robben (James), Sheridan Fabrizius (fiancé Tom), Grayson Fabrizius 
(fiancé Brooke), Brooklyn Crawford (Caleb), Hayden Wilson, Rachel 
Wilson, Abigail Wilson, Isaac Wilson (fiancé Lauren), Daniel Wilson, 
David Wilson, Ksusha Peeples, Riley Yanke, Keegan Yanke, Tyler Hafliger 
(Stephanie), Beth Hafliger, Matthew Hafliger. She is survived by her 
great grandchildren Jemma Hafliger, Kayden Hafliger, Chasey Wasinger, 
and Adaline Robben, and other family and friends.

Karlynn was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Gertrude, 
her first husband, Elvin, brother and sister-in-law, Lary and Donna 
Brookhart, grandson Christopher Kasparek, and great-grandson Liam 
Kasparek.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 6, 2021, at 
Zion Lutheran Church. John Anderson of Zion Lutheran Church will be 
officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery at Trego Center south 
of WaKeeney, Kansas.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 
Zion Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers (if desired), memorial

Karlynn Kay Brookhart Fabrizius Yanke

Jean Ann (Shoop) Hixson was born in Sterling, Kansas, to Homer Albert Shoop and 
Helen Ethel (Heter) Shoop. Raised on the family farm outside of St. 
John, Kansas, Jean was the oldest of Homer and Helen’s four children.
 Jean’s childhood was filled with family, 4-H, and church activities.
 Shoop family reunions, which began in Colorado in 1950, were always an 
important part of Jean’s life, creating special memories and stories 
with cousins that continued to bring lifelong joy. As a teenager, Jean 
was busy showing award-winning steers and lambs at the fair and was 
equally talented behind a sewing machine, creating stunning pieces of 
clothing she modeled with flair at the 4-H style reviews. After 
graduating from St. John High School in 1961, she headed to K-State 
where she lived in Smurthwaite Scholarship Hall and later Gamma Phi Beta
 sorority, making life-long friends. 
 During her freshman year, a young man offered to drive her to church
 and that’s the beginning of a beautiful love story. With tremendous 
faith and love, she flew across the Atlantic to marry Larry Hixson in 
Giessen, Germany, on August 1, 1964, in a fairy tale wedding that was 
retold throughout their 57 years of marriage. Graduating from K-State in
 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in home economics, Jean and Larry 
headed to WaKeeney to begin a farming career and raise their family.
 Jean quickly made WaKeeney home, working on the farm with Larry and 
raising a family. She taught Home Economics and Combined Cooperative 
Vocational Education Program (CCVEP) at Trego Community High School. 
During the 1980s she sold Leiters Designer Fabrics across western 
Kansas, bringing people together through beautiful fabrics. She served 
on the boards of the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, the Northwest
 Kansas Regional Library, the Kansas Hospital Association, and the 
Kansas Ag Rural Leadership program. For many years, Jean served as 
director of the Trego Hospital Endowment Foundation and enjoyed her 
volunteer work for the Kansas Wheat Commission as a “Wheatheart,” 
demonstrating bread making techniques across Kansas. She was awarded the
 Wheat Woman of the Year in 1997 for her outstanding efforts in the 
promotion of wheat products. 
 Above all, Jean loved caring for her family. Attending her 
children’s events brought her much joy; from music and dance recitals, 
volleyball, basketball (really her favorite), and football games, tennis
 matches, 4-H events (a close second), she was her children’s biggest 
fan. She was an active member of Presbyterian Women, the local Extension
 Homemaker Unit (EHU), two bridge clubs, the Red Hat Society and served 
as a past office holder of Chapter CT of the PEO Sisterhood.
 Jean and Larry loved to travel, visiting their children and 
grandchildren often, and were blessed to be able to enjoy adventures to 
Europe, South Africa, and Asia as well as Hawaii, Alaska, and most of 
the fifty states. In her well-deserved retirement, Jean and Larry spent 
summers in Westcliffe, Colorado, taking in the mountain air, blue grass 
festivals, quilting, bunco, rodeos, and mountain-top picnics.
 Jean passed away peacefully in Hays Medical Center after bravely battling Parkinson’s for 17 years.
 Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Helen Shoop and
 her sister, Becky (Shoop) Hunley. Jean is survived by her husband, 
Larry Hixson (WaKeeney); sister, Karen Nelson (Larry), McCall, Idaho; 
brother, Donald Shoop (Holly), Fargo, North Dakota, brother-in-law, Rick
 Hunley, St. John, Kansas; daughter, Krista Clouse (Darrin), 
Charlottesville, Virginia; daughter, Heidi Cashman (Steve), Lenexa, 
Kansas; son, Jon Hixson (Jessica), Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren 
Emma Clouse (Jacopo Scrinzi), Chloe Clouse, Lily Clouse, Sophia Clouse, 
Jack Cashman, Sam Cashman, Luke Cashman, Will Hixson, Hannah Hixson and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean Ann (Shoop) Hixson

June Cecilia (Mayers) Cady, age 82, passed away October 29, 2021 in 
Osborne, Kansas. She was born to Cecil J. and Sophia A. (Brock) Mayers 
on June 1, 1939, Osborne, Kansas.

June married William C. "Bill" Cady June 8, 1957 in Osborne, Kansas.&nbsp;

She is survived by her sisters, Linda Miner, Edith "Billie" Boyd, and Mary Storer.

June graduated from Downs High School class of 1957.

She was a&nbsp; "June-of-all-trades" including owning Cady's Casual's 
Dress Shop, insurance agent, CNA at Osborne County Hospital, caregiver 
at Beloit Juvenile Facility for Girls, and custodian for Osborne Public 
Schools.&nbsp;

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, yardwork, going to auctions, and spending time with her family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Her dry sense of humor and wonderful home-cooked meals will be missed by many.&nbsp;

June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill, and three 
sons: Trae, Tim, and Tom. She was also preceded in death by one sister, 
Judith A. Johnson.

She is survived by her son, Tad and daughter-in-law, Lisa and 12 
grandchildren: Melany, Christopher, Zachary, Andrea, Nicholas, Boone, 
Ryan, Taylor, Brett, Drew, Aubrey, and Megan. and four great 
grandchildren: Quinton, Jeff, Leon, and Lyra and one 
great-great-grandchild, Huxley.&nbsp;

 </figure>June Cecilia (Mayers) Cady, age 82, passed away October 29, 2021 in 
Osborne, Kansas. She was born to Cecil J. and Sophia A. (Brock) Mayers 
on June 1, 1939, Osborne, Kansas.June married William C. "Bill" Cady June 8, 1957 in Osborne, Kansas.&nbsp;She is survived by her sisters, Linda Miner, Edith "Billie" Boyd, and Mary Storer.June graduated from Downs High School class of 1957.She was a&nbsp; "June-of-all-trades" including owning Cady's Casual's 
Dress Shop, insurance agent, CNA at Osborne County Hospital, caregiver 
at Beloit Juvenile Facility for Girls, and custodian for Osborne Public 
Schools.&nbsp;She enjoyed cooking, gardening, yardwork, going to auctions, and spending time with her family.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her dry sense of humor and wonderful home-cooked meals will be missed by many.&nbsp;June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill, and three 
sons: Trae, Tim, and Tom. She was also preceded in death by one sister, 
Judith A. Johnson.She is survived by her son, Tad and daughter-in-law, Lisa and 12 
grandchildren: Melany, Christopher, Zachary, Andrea, Nicholas, Boone, 
Ryan, Taylor, Brett, Drew, Aubrey, and Megan. and four great 
grandchildren: Quinton, Jeff, Leon, and Lyra and one 
great-great-grandchild, Huxley.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.clarkgashawfh.com/obituary/June-Cady'">Clark-Gashaw Mortuary</a> is in charge of arrangements.
