(AP) — Josh Allen threw two touchdowns passing and Shaq Lawson had two of Buffalo's four sacks in a 20-3 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday that has the Bills off to their best start in 23 years. John Brown made a diving 34-yard touchdown catch, and Cole Beasley scored on an 18-yard reception. Allen finished 15 of 25 for 185 yards and threw his first interception in 172 attempts. Frank Gore had 65 yards rushing to up his total to 15,289 and move ahead of boyhood idol Barry Sanders into third on the NFL career list. The 15-year veteran also increased his total to 19,154 yards from scrimmage to pass Marshall Faulk for fourth on the list. Rookie Ed Oliver and Star Lotulelei had a sack apiece, while cornerback Tre'Davious White snuffed out a potential scoring drive by intercepting Brandon Allen at the Buffalo 8 in the final minute of the first half. Buffalo improved to 8-3, to match its best start since Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly's final season in 1996, while keeping the Bills firmly in position to secure their second playoff berth in three years. The Broncos dropped to 3-8 in Vic Fangio's first season as coach, and for the second time in three years. And it might be time for Fangio to look to the future after quarterback Brandon Allen went 3 of 14 for 4 yards in the second half and finished 10 of 25 for 82 yards passing with an interception. Brandon Allen dropped to 1-2 in three starts after Joe Flacco sustained a season-ending neck injury. And Allen's replacement is already waiting in the wings. Rookie second-round draft pick Drew Lock has spent the past two weeks practicing since being sidelined in August by an injury to his right thumb. Last week, Fangio said he wasn't any closer to targeting a possible return date for Lock, who would remain on IR the rest of the season if he's not activated by Dec. 3. Activating Lock would at least provide some substance to what's become a lost season for a team that was coming off a 27-23 loss at Minnesota in which the Broncos squandered a 20-0 lead. A week after managing a season-best 394 yards against the Vikings, the Broncos managed just 134 yards and nine first downs against the Bills. This was an important win for Buffalo, which now enters the toughest stretch of its season. Starting with a game at Dallas on Thursday, the Bills' next four opponents entered this week with a combined record of 28-12. This come after Buffalo built its 8-3 record by beating many of the NFL's pushovers. The Bills' previous seven wins — including two against Miami — came against teams that entered this week with a combined 15-55 record. Buffalo led from the start after settling for field goals on its first two drives. Stephen Hauschka capped a 17-play, 69-yard drive with a 39-yard field goal to open the scoring. And then he hit a 23-yard chip shot to cap a 12-play, 87-yard drive. Buffalo then broke the game open when Allen capped the opening drive of the third quarter with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cole Beasley to put the Bills ahead 13-0. TURNOVER Allen threw his first interception in 172 consecutive attempts late in the second quarter, when he sailed a pass over the middle intended for John Brown. He was picked off by safety Justin Simmons. It was Allen's first interception since the third quarter of a 14-7 win at Tennessee in Week 5. And it was also Buffalo's first turnover in three-plus games. The Bills had never gone four straight without a turnover. SACK MASTER Broncos linebacker Von Miller picked up his sixth sack of the season, and 104th of his career, by bringing down Allen for a 5-yard loss in the first half. Allen became the 51st player sacked by Miller. INJURIES: Broncos: Linebacker Josey Jewell hurt his ankle. Cornerback Duke Dawson did not return after being evaluated for a concussion. Bills: C Mitch Morse did not return after hurting a finger on his left hand. FHSU Sports Information KEARNEY, Neb. - Three wrestlers representing Fort Hays State earned top four finishes in a loaded field at the UNK Younes Hospitality Open Saturday. Anthony Scantlin placed third in the Elite 157 bracket, while A.J. Cooper (Elite 285) and Aryus Jones (Elite 184) both placed fourth in their divisions.&nbsp;Anthony Scantlin placed third after a 4-1 record on the day. He opened the with a 4-3 decision over Walker Johnson of host Nebraska-Kearney before picking up a second period pin in his second bout of the day. After a narrow defeat in the semifinals, Scantlin captured decisions in his next two matches in the consolation bracket to take home third place.&nbsp;A.J. Cooper recorded four wins on the day en route to a fourth-place finish at 285 pounds. The junior opened the day with a 6-1 decision before falling in the second round via a 6-2 decision. Cooper got back on track with a first period pin before picking up a 12-3 major decision win. He advanced to the final bout in the consolation bracket with an 8-6 consolation win before taking fourth via forfeit.&nbsp;Aryus Jones earned a fourth-place finish in the Elite 184 pound bracket after a 3-2 day on the mat. Jones opened the day with a loss via fall in the second period before three-straight backside wins. The sophomore knocked off a pair of Orediggers from Colorado School of Mines via decision, 12-7 and 4-2, before advancing to the third-place bout following a 16-5 major decision. Jones came up short in the final match of the day, falling 7-0 to take home fourth place.&nbsp;Jordan Davis turned in a 2-2 record in the Elite 285 competition, with both of his wins coming via pin. Efe Osaghae finished 1-2 in the Elite 174 bracket, dropping a pair of matches to Division I opponents. Marty Verhaeghe compiled a 3-2 record in the Elite 174 bracket, including one win via pin. Two Tigers competed in the Amateur division, with Clint Herrick finishing 1-2 at 194 pounds and Josh Lenker finishing 0-2 at 157 pounds.&nbsp;The Tigers will return to action in two weeks when they host the annual FHSU-Bob Smith Open on Saturday, Dec. 7. Youngblood fielded the kickoff one yard deep in the end zone midway through the third quarter, ran up the right side and covered the final 40 yards running just inches inside the right sideline, eluding multiple defenders. Blake Lynch kicked two 32-yard field goals and a 43-yarder for Kansas State (7-4, 4-4 Big 12, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Thompson's touchdown passes were 14 yards to Phillip Brooks in the third quarter and 48 yards to Chabastin Taylor midway in the fourth quarter. SaRodorick Thompson had a 5-yard touchdown run and Jett Duffey passed for 334 yards and two touchdowns for Texas Tech (4-7, 2-6) which fell short of bowl eligibility. Duffey's touchdown passes were 21 yards to Erik Ezukanma and 58 yards to R.J. Turner. Trey Wolff kicked field goals of 44 and 27 yards for the Red Raiders. Youngblood, a freshman who went into play leading the conference averaging 29.5 yards per kickoff return, had a 98-yarder for a touchdown against Texas on Nov. 9. Kansas State has returned three kickoffs for touchdowns this season. THE TAKEAWAY Kansas State: The Wildcats rebounded nicely following last week's home loss against West Virginia after which some players said they took the Mountaineers lightly. FHSU men's cross country places 29th at national championships

Trey Wade added 14 points with six rebounds and three blocked shots for Wichita State (5-0) and Tyson Etienne added 12 points. Deondre Burns scored 14 points for the Golden Eagles (2-4). Kevin Obanor and Elijah Lufile had 13 points each. The Shockers took the lead for good four minutes into the game on an Asbjorn Midtgaard dunk. Oral Roberts cut the lead to 56-53 on a Sam Kearns driving layup with just under six minutes to play but were outscored 10-6 the rest of the way. Wichita State plays South Carolina on Tuesday. Oral Roberts matches up against Southwestern Christian at home on Monday.

Purdy made Campbell look like a genius, closing the door on Kansas with a fourth-down touchdown pass with 1:09 left. Purdy threw for 372 yards and four TDs — including the game-clinching one on fourth-and-goal from the 4 — and Iowa State rallied to beat Kansas 41-31 on Saturday and clinch its third straight winning season. "Like I told our seniors, it was fitting that guts, toughness (and) heart was the way we were able to win," Campbell said. "We didn't play great. I'm not going to sugarcoat that in any way, shape or form." La'Michael Pettway had 96 yards receiving and two touchdowns for the Cyclones (7-4, 5-3 Big 12, who've now complied three consecutive winning years just twice in the modern era. Iowa State, under coach Earle Bruce, won eight games each in 1976, 1977 and 1978 before Bruce bolted for Ohio State. But the Cyclones nearly blew it against the league's last-place team. Kansas (3-8, 1-7) scored two touchdowns in just 77 seconds late in the third quarter, the second coming after Purdy threw an interception, to jump ahead 24-21. Purdy responded with a 24-yard TD pass to Breece Hall, and he ran for a five-yard touchdown with 5:10 left to put Iowa State back on top 34-31. After stopping Kansas on fourth down at the Iowa State 37, the Cyclones could have either kicked the chip-shot field goal and made it a six-point game — with Kansas out of timeouts — or go for it all. Campbell went for the kill, and Purdy scrambled away from danger until Shaw could get open for the score that sealed Iowa State's fifth straight win over Kansas, a 24-point underdog entering play. "They made one more play than we did, certainly at the end," Kansas coach Les Miles said. Carter Stanley threw for 328 yards and three TDs for Kansas, and Pooka Williams ran for 154 yards. "Sick, frustrated," Williams said of the vibe in the KU locker room. "But I feel like we have a chance...against every team we play." THE BIG PICTURE Iowa State: The Cyclones' defense, which has been really good for most of the season, had one of its worst games in years. Iowa State allowed 493 yards and nine third-down conversions. But the Cyclones had Purdy, who has blossomed into one of the nation's best this season. "When this team has needed him the most, he's been his best," Campbell said. Kansas: The Jayhawks also went for a huge gamble late, going for it on 4th-down-and-5 with 4:18 left down by three. It didn't work, as Stanley threw a ball over the middle and behind the sticks that Anthony Johnson swatted away. Still, Kansas can take solace in knowing it threw the ultimate scare into a program whose ascent the Jayhawks will look to emulate in the years ahead. "I would rather have had the ball in our hands than in their hands. So the opportunity to go for it on fourth down when your quarterback is hot and the opportunity to keep that possession, keep the ball in our hands was just what I wanted to do," Miles said of his decision to go for it. PIVOTAL MOMENT The Cyclones let Kansas drive 85 yards on its final possession of the first half, which was reminiscent of the 75-yard, 30-second TD drive Texas had to close out the second quarter last week. But Iowa State held KU to a field goal and then a three-and-out to open the third quarter, and Purdy's 4-yard TD toss to Pettway less than three minutes later made it 21-9. That sequence got lost in the madness that ensued, but the Cyclones likely don't win the game without such a response. THE NUMBERS Breece Hall ran for 97 yards. ...Andrew Parchment caught eight passes for 86 yards, and Stephon Robinson had 75 yards receiving — including a 40-yard TD with 10:42 to go that put Kansas back on top 31-27. ...Iowa State finished with 489 yards and scored on all four of its trips to the red zone. ...The Cyclones were 10 of 16 on third down. ...Liam Jones hit field goals of 36, 37 and 30 yards for Kansas. The Cardinals got on the score board first when Ben Hansen recovered a Jaden Atwood fumble at midfield and took it to the house for a touchdown at the 10:51 mark in the first quarter to put Plainville up 7-0. It would stay that way until later in the second quarter after Plainville punter Jordan Finnesy took a low snap on a knee and was marked at the Cardinal 35 yard-line. Smith Center turned the mistake to a five-play, 35-yard drive that was capped off by a two-yard Atwood touchdown to tying the game at seven. The game tied until the 3:38 marked in the third quarter when Finnesy scored the first of his two second-half rushing touchdowns, this one from 12 yards out to make it 13-7 after the extra point was block. Smith Center got on the board again in with 9:32 to play in the fourth quarter on a seven-yard Nate Hendrich touchdown run to make it 14-13. The drive was set up by a Plainville turnover on downs. Atwood, Smith Center’s leading rusher also got hurt on that drive and Hendrich stepped into his spot. Trailing by one, Finnesy led Plainville down the field and scored on a 42-yard touchdown run with just under three and a half minutes to go in the game to put the Cardinals on top 19-14 after the two-point conversion was no good. Down five Smith Center drove down the field and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 33-yard pass from Trenton Colby to Griffin Kugler with 1:26 to play that put Smith Center on top 20-19 after the two-point try was no good. Plainville was able to put together a drive into Smith Center territory in the final minutes but Sergio Lambert picked off Finnesy for the third time in the game with under 40 second remaining to seal the win for the Redmen. Smith Center’s quarterback Trenton Colby finished 9-of-16 passing for 107 yards with one touchdown. Atwood ran for 111 yards and one score before leaving the game with an injury. Finnesy rushed for a game-high 123 yards and two touchdowns and was 11-for-20 for 141 yards and three interceptions.&nbsp; Smith Center improves to 12-0 and will take on Centralia in the state championship game next Saturday in Hays.&nbsp; Plainville finishes the second 10-2.

Hilgendorf is currently a senior at Hastings High School in Hastings, Nebraska. He played his first three years of high school at Adams Central High School, just outside of Hastings.&nbsp;Hilgendorf is a 6-foot, 9-inch post player that also has the ability to shoot on the perimeter. He averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a junior in 2018-19, helping Adams Central to the Nebraska Class C-1 State Tournament. He was the Tribland Boys Basketball Player of the Year by the&nbsp;Hastings Tribune&nbsp;and named to&nbsp;The Grand Island Independent&nbsp;All-Heartland Super Squad. He also received All-State First Team honors from the&nbsp;Lincoln Journal Star.

FHSU's appearance in the match solidifies their streak as the longest consecutive participant in the NCAA postseason — notching eight straight years. The Tigers swiftly collected their first goal of the contest. Senior forward Santiago Agudelo created a breakaway on a ball that was misplayed by a Greyhounds defender. With defenders nearing and goalkeeper Miles Palmer sprinting off of his line, the striker chipped the ball, hitting the underside of the bar off of a bounce and falling over the line for a 1-0 lead.&nbsp; FHSU was able to collect another tally in the 21st minute. Just before the halfway line, junior midfielder Ross Boyd intercepted a pass and sent a through ball over the top of the UIndy defense. As the ball hit the ground, it found the feet of a sprinting Agudelo who, once again, chipped Palmer who had jumped off of his line.&nbsp; Up 2-0, the Tigers continued to stand tall at the back line, but the relentless pressure from the Greyhounds managed to snag their first goal under a minute after the Black and Gold's second.&nbsp; Javier Steinwascher played a cross towards the near post finding the head of Bryan Moreira, who slotted a ball into the top-left corner of the goal, beating goalkeeper Cullen Fisch to the post. Under two minutes later, UIndy was able to bring the match back level. At the top of the 18-yard box, Ben Rohder was sent a pass from Mathias Skjeseth. Rohder, requiring only one touch, bent a shot with the inside of his foot to the far post.&nbsp; Heading into halftime, the two sides presented an even draw.&nbsp; Indianapolis was able to strike again in the 62nd minute, when Steinwascher entered the scoring column on a header, assisted by Jakub Olczyk.&nbsp; As the clock continued to dwindle down, the Black and Gold persisted with aggression on the offensive end. Fort Hays State inched further toward the goal as time continued to get closer to the total 90 minutes.&nbsp; In the final 90 seconds of the contest, FHSU hustled to create chances and nearly had an equalizer on a ball that ringed off of the crossbar.&nbsp; In the final 10 seconds the Tigers collected one more chance.&nbsp; As all 11 players rushed for their final attempt at goal, Boyd sent a corner kick into the box which was snatched up by Palmer as the clock expired.&nbsp; The Tigers finished the match totaling eight shots, four of which hit the target and notched four corner kicks in the contest.&nbsp; Fisch stopped three shots on six total shots on goal by the Greyhounds.&nbsp; The Tigers loss concludes their 2019 campaign, which witnessed an overall record of 13-6-2 and rankings peaking at No. 3 in the nation.

Major League Baseball owners voted unanimously Thursday to approve the deal, which was announced Aug. 30 and was expected to be worth about $1 billion. Sherman and his local co-investors will become only the third owners since Ewing Kauffman founded the club ahead of the 1969 season. Sherman, 64, has lived in Kansas City for more than four decades, even after he bought a non-controlling interest in the Cleveland Indians. He founded, built and then sold a series of energy companies. "He had a three-year indoctrination with the Indians. The Indians are regarded to be a very well-run and obviously very competitive on the field organization," baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said. "I think the opportunity to function inside a quality major league organization gives John a unique opportunity to take over in Kansas City, not miss a step." Kansas City went 59-103, its second straight 100-loss season. Ned Yost, who led the Royals to their second World Series title in 2015, retired as manager and was replaced by Mike Matheny.

Delaney Humm picked up second team All-MIAA honors, while Tatum Bartels and Isabelle Reynolds received honorable mention accolades. Delaney Humm earned a spot on the second team after a strong freshman campaign. The outside hitter totaled a team-best 336 kills on the year, breaking a 24-year-old record of kills by a freshman (Andrea Ladwig, 312 kills, 1995). Humm averaged 3.54 kills per set, third best in the MIAA. The Lincoln, Neb. native added 262 digs (2.76 per set, second most on the team. She tallied 13 double-doubles on the year, reaching double figures in kills 19 times and digs 14 times. Humm eclipsed 20 kills four times, including a season-high 22 kills on two occasions. She recorded a season-high 21 digs late in the season against Missouri Western (11/7). Humm also led the team with 21 service aces and ranked fifth with 27 total blocks (one solo). Tatum Bartels picked up honorable mention status after leading the team with a .238 attack percentage, ranking 17th in the conference. The junior accumulated 184 kills, ranking third on the team. She totaled 51 kills on the year, including 10 solo blocks, ranking second on the team in both categories. The Phillipsburg, Kan. native also ranked second on the team with 16 service aces. Bartels recorded 10 or more kills nine times, including a career-best 22 kills in a win over South Dakota Mines (9/7). The middle blocker added a season-high six blocks in the victory over South Dakota Mines. Isabelle Reynolds earned honorable mention recognition after accumulating 212 kills on the year, averaging 2.26 kills per set. Both totals ranked second on the team. The outside hitter eclipsed double figures in digs eight times, including a season-high 17 kills against Missouri Southern (10/18). She added 68 digs and 32 total blocks on the defensive end, including a season-best 11 digs against Missouri Western (11/7). Reynolds ranked fourth on the team in both total blocks and service aces with five.

Three FHSU volleyball players earn All-MIAA honors

Santiago Agudelo, Sergio Villalba, and Rogelio Lopez earned first-team honors, while Mauricio Etcheverry, Moritz Walther, and Alec Bevis received second-team selections. Agudelo is the Central Region Player of the Year for a second-straight season. Agudelo is a first-team member at forward. He goes into the 2019 NCAA Tournament with 35 points for the season, compiled on 14 goals and seven assists. The Frisco, Texas, senior is now a two-time conference and region player of the year. He received GAC Offensive Player of the Year honors this season on the heels of MIAA Player of the Year honors in 2018. Last year, Agudelo went on to receive National Player of the Year honors last year by leading the nation in scoring with 58 points (26 goals, 6 assists). In two years on the field for FHSU, Agudelo has 93 points (40 goals, 13 assists, owning the career school records for goals and points. Villalba, like Agudelo, is now a two-time D2CCA all-region performer. He earned second-team honors and improved his status to first team this year at defender. Villalba earned GAC Defender of the Year honors this season. A senior from Asuncion, Paraguay, Villalba is a three-time all-conference recipient. Villalba has appeared in 80 matches throughout his career at FHSU playing 6,412 minutes, accumulating 32 points (13 goals, 6 assists). Lopez also elevated his status on the all-region team this year after a second-team selection last year. The Katy, Texas, sophomore midfielder was a first-team All-GAC selection this year and was the MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2018. He has 10 points this season with three goals and four assists and has a total of 24 points in his career so far in his two years at FHSU (9 goals, 6 assists). Etcheverry earns the first all-region honor of his career at FHSU. The Asuncion, Paraguay, senior midfielder had a big GAC Tournament last weekend with four points, producing a goal and two assists. He now has four assists this season. Etcheverry was an All-GAC Second Team selection this year and has 16 points in his career over 62 matches at FHSU, producing 4 goals and 8 assists. Walther earns all-region second team honors for the second-straight year, this time as a defender after getting the nod as a midfielder last year. He was an All-GAC Second Team selection this season. The Wiesloch, Germany, junior has 14 points so far this year with six goals and two assists. Over 40 matches at FHSU, Walther has 26 points (8 goals, 10 assists). Bevis earns his first all-region honor as a Tiger. The Wichita defender earned GAC Freshman of the Year this season and earned an all-conference honorable mention nod. Bevis has four points this season with a goal and two assists, while leading the team in minutes played with 1,782. He played entire matches in 16 of 20 contests so far this year.

Six Tigers land on D2CCA All-Region men's soccer team

(AP) - Udoka Azubuike pounded home 21 points, Devon Dotson added 19 and fourth-ranked Kansas weathered East Tennessee State's second-half charge to escape with a 75-63 victory Tuesday night. Marcus Garrett added 13 points for the Jayhawks (3-1, who led by as many as 18 early in the game before the Pirates (3-1) closed within 61-56 with just over 5 minutes to go. Azubuike's assortment of dunks, a couple of poised plays by Dotson and Garrett, and three misfires from beyond the arc by the Pirates' Patrick Good allowed the Jayhawks to ease away. Bo Hodges had 22 points and Lucas N'Guessan scored 11 for the Pirates, who were off to their best start since the 1998-99 season. Daivien Williamson came off the bench to add 10. The game looked like it would be The Dotson Show from the opening tip, when the sprightly guard coasted in for a layup. He proceeded to hit the Jayhawks' only 3 of the first half, threw an alley-oop to Silvio de Sousa for an easy dunk and knocked down a pair of free throws during a big early run. The Jayhawks pushed lead to 31-13 before Dotson checked out for the first time. They never looked quite as good again. N'Guessan, who had played in Allen Fieldhouse with Oklahoma State, began a second-half charge for the Pirates that trimmed their deficit to 45-36 by the first media timeout. The Pirates began to take advantage of the turnover problems that plagued Kansas in its season-opening loss to Duke, too. Ochai Agbaji was stripped twice in a span of about a minute, and Garrett and Tristan Enaruna had their pockets picked on back-to-back trips. Seven times in a span of 12 possessions the Jayhawks turned the ball over. East Tennessee State's confidence rose as shots started to fall. Tray Boyd III knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, then Good added two of his own, getting the Pirates within 61-56 with 5:52 left. Azubuike kept hammering home answers. His one-handed jam over N'Guessan raised the crowd to its feet, and the 7-footer's two-handed dunk drew a foul and left the rim rattling as the teams retreated to their benches for a timeout. It was still 61-56 when Garrett was fouled and made both free throws. Then, after Williamson turned the ball over for East Tennessee State, de Sousa threw down an alley-oop dunk in transition that helped to punctuate a win for the Jayhawks. BIG PICTURE East Tennessee State showed why it's a good bet to reach the NCAA Tournament. The Pirates spotted the Jayhawks a big early lead, which is almost always a losing scenario in the Phog, yet relied on a senior-laden group that has won plenty of games to keep from getting blown out. Kansas had chances to put the game away early. But the offense languished when Dotson went to the bench, and even the sure-handed guard had trouble with turnovers. Those are issues that will accompany the Jayhawks to the Maui Invitational, where they could face Michigan State down the road. UP NEXT East Tennessee State plays Delaware State on Saturday. Azubuike leads No. 4 Kansas to win over East Tennessee State

(AP) - Xavier Sneed had 21 points and six rebounds, Cartier Diarra had seven points and eight assists as Kansas State escaped a scare from Arkansas-Pine Bluff 62-51 on Tuesday night. Marquell Carter led the Golden Lions (0-4) with 20 points and nine rebounds as Arkansas-Pine Bluff trailed by just six points with nine minutes left in the game. This was Arkansas-Pine Bluff's closest margin of defeat this season. Makol Mawien finished with 10 points and Antonio Gordon provided nine as Kansas State ended with 24 points in the paint and 10 offensive rebounds. Neither team took care of the ball very well as Kansas State had 16 turnovers compared to Arkansas-Pine Bluff's 20. A zone defense by the Golden Lions proved to be troublesome and the Wildcats posted the fewest point total in a home game this season. Kansas State was able to make a season high eight 3-pointers and held the Golden Lions to just three. Both teams had a 12-0 run in the first half, and they were squared at 27 after 20 minutes. Kansas State has yet to be leading at the half in any game this season. INJURY WATCH Montavious Murphy didn't play for the Wildcats due to an undisclosed injury he sustained against Monmouth last week. He averages five points and five rebounds this season. BIG PICTURE Arkansas-Pine Bluff had too many turnovers to hang with the Wildcats but showed promise after a poor start to the season. Kansas State's first half woes continued, but they were able to pull away in the second half. UP NEXT Arkansas-Pine Bluff plays its third game in six days Thursday when they face Pittsburgh. Kansas State will take part in the Fort Myers Tipoff in Florida when they face Pittsburgh on Monday.

You don't have to go back very far in the record books to find the last time the Tigers were ranked fifth in the coaches poll, with the Black and Gold occupying the fifth spot in the final release following the 2018-19 postseason. Fort Hays State was ranked in the top five for nine weeks last season. The Tigers hold a 9-1 record all-time when ranked fifth, including a 4-0 mark in 2018-19. Fort Hays State is the only MIAA team ranked in either poll. Emporia State and Central Missouri are both receiving votes in the coaches rankings. The Tigers received two first-team, four second-team, three third-team, and six honorable mention selections. Dante Brown repeated as the conference's Special Teams Player of the Year. First-team selections went to Brown at kicker and Harley Hazlett as an all-purpose back. Second-team members are Chance Fuller at quarterback, Tanner Hoekman at defensive back, Ted Hessing on the offensive line, and Javaris Sanders on the defensive line. Third-team selections went to Layne Bieberle at wide receiver, Amari Angram-Boldin on the offensive line, and Jordan Starks at defensive back. Honorable mention nods went to Charles Tigner (RB, Manny Ramsey (WR, Hayden Kreutzer (DB, Kolt Trachsel (LB, Sheldon Schmidt (DL) and Matt Wendelberger (TE). Brown, a senior from Mississauga, Ontario, is the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Year and a first-team selection for a second-straight season. He finished the year with 109 points converting 19 field goals and 52 PAT attempts. He is the only Tiger kicker in history to score over 100 points in a season, and did it two years in a row. Added to a school record 123-point effort last year, Brown finishes his career at FHSU with 232 points in just two seasons as the team's placekicker. That total comes up just 12 points shy of career-points record holder Drew O'Brien, who kicked for four years. By regular season's end, Brown ranked fourth in Division II for field goals per game (1.73) and 11th in points per game (9.9). This is the third straight year a Tiger wins the Special Teams Player of the Year, all with the same surname. Brandon Brown was the team's placekicker in 2017, who also earned the distinction. Last year, Brown was an All-America First Team selection at kicker by two organizations and the Don Hansen Football Committee National Special Teams Player of the Year. Hazlett is now a three-time All-MIAA selection, receiving honors all three of his years on the field for the Tigers, and has been one of the most dynamic offensive players in the conference in that span. A senior from Abilene, Kansas, Hazlett finished the year with a team-best 1,095 all-purpose yards. Mainly utilized as a receiver, Hazlett led the MIAA in receptions per game (6.7, while ranking 13th in NCAA Division II. He ranked third in the conference in receiving yards with 861. He was also a threat rushing the ball with 128 yards, while also recording 106 kick return yards. Hazlett had 12 total touchdowns (9 receiving, 3 rushing) to lead the team. Hazlett even threw the ball one time for a 20-yard touchdown pass. Hazlett became the eighth receiver in FHSU history to reach 2,000 receiving yards, going past the mark in the final game of the season. He finished with 2,038 at FHSU, accounting for more than two-thirds of his 2,738 all-purpose yards. He owns the FHSU record for career receptions with 184. A sophomore from Arlington, Texas, Fuller put up big numbers in his first full year as a starter for the Tigers at quarterback. The MIAA featured three of the top five passers in the nation during the regular season, Fuller being one of the three by ranking fifth in the nation with 3,344 yards. MIAA Offensive Player of the Year Brook Bolles of Central Missouri was the nation's leader at 3,660 yards. Fuller broke the FHSU record for passing touchdowns in a season with 35, previously set by Shawn Behr in 1995 with 34, and he ranked fourth in the nation in passing touchdowns by the end of the regular season. He ranked 14th nationally in completion percentage (258-of-400) at 64.5 percent. Fuller has been consistent, completing 65 percent of his passes and throwing for 8.4 yards per pass two years in a row. Hoekman is now a three-time All-MIAA selection as a defensive back. He closed out his career as a Tiger with 294 tackles, finishing sixth on the career tackles list for the program's NCAA Division II era. The Abilene, Kansas senior started all 47 games he played at FHSU as one of the bandit backs on defense. This year he finished second on the team in tackles with 83, while tying for the team lead in interceptions with three. He added five pass breakups. Aside from nearly 300 career tackles, he added 15.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 12 pass breakups, and five fumble recoveries over four seasons. Hessing, a native of Stuart, Florida, earns second team honors in his first year at FHSU. The Arizona Western Community College junior transfer was a key addition to the line this year at right tackle, helping the team produce a new record for points in a season (455). FHSU averaged 41.4 points per game, which ranked fourth among high-octane MIAA offenses but was still good enough to set a new school mark. Hessing helped the team produce 5,342 yards of total offense, averaging 485.6 yards per game. Sanders receives all-conference honors for the first time in his career at FHSU. The Largo, Florida junior started all 11 games at defensive tackle, producing 24 tackles. He helped FHSU limit opponents to 355.1 yards per game, which ranked third in the MIAA. A senior from Claflin, Kansas, Bieberle is now a four-time All-MIAA selection, this being his third selection as a receiver. He was both an all-conference receiver and punt returner last year, and earned an all-conference nod at receiver as a freshman. This year, he produced 40 catches for 741 yards and six touchdowns, while accumulating 208 punt return yards. He averaged a team-high 18.5 yards per catch. Bieberle etched his name in the FHSU record books, finishing second on the career receiving yards and receptions lists, and third in receiving touchdowns, while owning the career punt returns and punt return yards records. Early in the season, he became the seventh receiver in school history to attain 2,000 receiving yards in a career. Bieberle finished with 2,625 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns on 168 receptions over four years, while adding 808 punt return yards on 87 attempts. Bieberle had 3,433 all-purpose yards in his career, 10th most for a career in Tiger history. Angram-Boldin, a junior from Pahokee, Florida, picks up the second All-MIAA honor of his career at FHSU. A third-team selection this year, he received second-team honors in 2018. He started all 11 games at left guard, a position he has anchored the last two years. Like Hessing, Angram-Boldin helped the Tigers average 41.4 points and 485.6 yards per game this season. Serving as starting free safety, Starks put up solid numbers on defense to earn his first all-conference nod. The Tulsa, Oklahoma sophomore finished third on the team in tackles with 78, while leading FHSU in solo stops with 45. He tied for the team lead in interceptions with three. He reached double figures for tackles in a game three times this year. A senior from Glennville, Georgia, Tigner received the third All-MIAA honor of his career. He was a third-team selection in both 2017 and 2018. Tigner was the team leader in rushing yards this year with 740, while adding 290 receiving yards. He ranked second on the team in all-purpose yards with 1,030. Tigner ranks 10th on the career rushing yards list at FHSU with 2,327 and ninth in all-purpose yards with 3.473. Ramsey gave the Tigers quite the receiving trio this season, helping FHSU have three receivers finish with more than 700 yards this season. Ramsey was second on the team in receiving yards with 808, hauling in 47 passes and a team-high 10 receiving touchdowns to warrant the first all-conference honor of his career. He averaged 17.2 yards per catch, giving FHSU two receivers that averaged more than 15 yards per catch. The Canadian, Texas sophomore had over 100 receiving yards in three games this year. Kreutzer picked up the first all-conference honor of his career. The Hays senior was the counterpart of Hoekman at bandit back this year, ranking fifth on the team in tackles with 69. He also added in two interceptions and five pass breakups. Kreutzer finished with 102 tackles in his career, recording well over half of the total this year. He had three interceptions over his four years as a Tiger. Trachsel receives an All-MIAA Honorable Mention nod for the third straight year at linebacker. The Goodland, Kansas senior finished the 2019 season with 72 tackles, which including three tackles for loss. He finished with 191 tackles, including 13 for loss, five sacks, and two interceptions in his four years on the field at FHSU. Schmidt earns an All-MIAA nod for the first time in his career on the defensive line. Schmidt led FHSU defensive linemen in tackles this year with 43 and sacks with four. The La Crosse, Kansas senior recorded 126 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and six fumble recoveries in his four years on the field for the Tigers. Wendelberger is now a four-time All-MIAA performer at tight end. Though he battled through injury for a good portion of the season, the Pewaukee, Wisconsin senior still managed to record 131 receiving yards on 15 catches with two touchdowns. Wendelberger's presence on the field was key for the Tiger offense, especially when throwing key blocks to spring free Tiger backs and receivers. He finished his career with 85 catches for 1,048 yards and eight touchdowns. FHSU lands 15 on All-MIAA Football team

After a one-year stint in the Kansas Collegiate League Baseball, the Larks are joining the Rocky Mountain Baseball League and will begin play in the 2020. “It’s something we’ve been talking about, trying to make sure we get the right kind of competition for our players to compete against and we just felt joining the RMBL would be the best fit for us” said Larks manager Frank Leo. “The teams out there are all willing to travel into Hays which helps fill out home schedule.” Following the breakup of the Jayhawk League, the Larks joined the KCLB last season along with the Liberal BeeJays and the Dodge City A’s. Outside of their former Jayhawk League rivals, only two other teams in the KCLB were willing to travel to western Kansas to play games. “That was one of the drawbacks of the KCLB. Teams there were kind of restricted a little bit in their budgets and not able to do extensive traveling but the teams out in the RMBL are willing to do that,” Leo said. “We’ve played several of those teams and the competition out there was good then they came to Hays to play us.” Not counting their games with the Liberal BeeJays and Dodge City A's who are opting to remain in the KCLB, the Larks went 15-1 against the rest of the league and scored 10 or more runs in 11 of those 16 games. The Rocky Mountain Baseball League will now consist of nine teams. In addition to the Larks, the other eight teams are in Colorado and includes the Colorado Sox, Denver Cougars, Colorado Pirates, Game Day Saints, Colorado Roughriders, Boulder Collegians, Colorado Springs Renegades and Fort Collins Foxes. Each team will play a 32-game league schedule with four games versus each opponent, two at home and two on the road. The Denver Cougars will play all four of their games with the Larks in Hays giving the Larks 18 league home games. “It’s going to make for some longer road trips,” Leo said. “It could be a six-day road trip and two four-day road trips to get our 14 games in out in Colorado.” The RMBL is NBC affiliated and currently receives two bids into the NBC World Series, one in the First Week and one in the Championship Week.

Patrick Mahomes passed for 182 yards and hit Travis Kelce for his only touchdown, while LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams rushed for touchdowns as the Chiefs (7-4) hung on to win the fourth regular-season NFL game played in Mexico despite a few problems with Azteca's grass field and a one-sided first half favoring the Chargers (4-7, who racked up 312 yards without a touchdown. After throwing his second interception of the season in the first half, Mahomes led two sharp scoring drives in the third quarter with help from Kelce, who caught seven passes for 92 yards. The Chiefs held Los Angeles to eight points in the second half, and Sorensen grabbed Rivers' underthrown pass to Austin Ekeler at the goal line to secure the Chiefs' 10th win over Los Angeles in 11 meetings.

FHSU was the Central Region champion four of the last five years, but the formerly unbalanced bracket takes a new look this year with four Super Regions made up of 10 teams each.&nbsp; FHSU will face off against No. 9 seed University of Indianapolis, which posted a record of 12-5-1 during their 2019 campaign, on Thursday (Nov. 21) at 11 a.m. CST (12 p.m. EST). The two sides will travel to Painesville, Ohio for their first round matchup. The winner of Fort Hays State and Indianapolis will take on the No. 1 seed in the super region, Lake Erie College, serving as the host site. Lake Erie was the Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season champion, holding an overall record of 18-2. That match is slated for 2 pm CST (3 pm EST). The winner of the Lake Erie vs. Fort Hays State/Indianapolis match on Saturday will move on to the Round of 16 most likely at the site of the highest remaining seed in the Super Region 3 field. Bellarmine (Ky.) is the highest seed on the opposite side of the 10-team bracket with the No. 2 seed. The team that advances from tournament play at Lake Erie College this weekend will take on either No. 4 seed McKendree (Ill.) or No. 5 seed Ohio Valley University in the Round of 16 on the weekend of December 5-8. Should the Tigers win four straight to claim the Super Region 3 bracket, they would make a return trip to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the national semifinals and finals, slated for Dec. 12 and 14 at Highmark Stadium. The Tigers were eliminated by penalty kicks in the semifinals after playing eventual 2018 national champion Barry University (Fla.) to a scoreless tie. FHSU has a record of 4-5-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

He compiled an 82-35 (.701) overall record as head coach.&nbsp;The 33-year veteran of the Pitt State coaching staff helped the program post a 314-85-2 (.786) during his decorated tenure from 1987-2019, winning two national championships and 14 conference championships while earning 20 national playoff appearances.&nbsp;"On behalf of everyone at Pittsburg State University, I want to thank Coach Beck for his tremendous service to his alma mater," Pitt State athletic director Jim Johnson said. "We are grateful for everything Tim has done to help further the tradition and legacy of Pitt State football. We wish he and his family nothing but the best moving forward." Beck led his alma mater (PSU, '88) to the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship, earning national coach of the year honors from Liberty Mutual, the Don Hansen Football Committee and FieldTurf™. Beck became the school's 14th all-time head football coach in December 2009, after serving for 23 seasons as an assistant coach for the Gorillas. He served 16 years as the team's offensive coordinator from 1994-2009. Beck's tenure as head coach included a pair of MIAA Championships and NCAA Division II playoff appearances in 2011 and 2014 as well as an 8-1 overall postseason record. In 2011, Beck led the Gorillas to the program's second NCAA national championship and the school's fourth national title overall in a 13-1 campaign. Pitt State captured the MIAA Championship and ultimately the NCAA-II National Championship with a 35-21 victory over Wayne (Mich.) State University on Dec. 17, 2011. During his 16 seasons as offensive coordinator, the Gorilla offense consistently ranked among the finest units in NCAA Division II. In 2008, Beck was selected the inaugural NCAA Division II Coordinator of the Year byFootballScoop.com, following a vote of his coaching peers. In 2004, Beck's offensive unit established itself as the most prolific squad in the history of NCAA football.&nbsp;PSU shattered a 118-year-old scoring record, scoring an amazing 837 points (55.8 ppg).&nbsp;His squad also set the NCAA all division records for rushing (5,320 yards) and total offense (8,976 yards). Prior to assuming the offensive coordinator's role, Beck served two years as Pitt State's defensive coordinator (1992-93).&nbsp;He became a full-time assistant on the Pitt State staff in 1989, after serving first as a student assistant (1987) and then as a graduate assistant (1988).&nbsp;Johnson indicated the university will launch a national search to fill Beck's position.

Several area girls' golfers have earned All-State honors from the KGCA. Plainville's Corbyn Marquess was named the First Team in Class 3-2-1A. TMP-Marian's Haleigh Spray and Jenna Romme were named to the Second Team.

Hays High had two golfers named to the 5A All-State team. Taleia McCrae and Sophia Garrison were both honorable mention picks.

(AP) — Authorities in Florida say a man punched a Little League umpire and broke his tooth over a disputed call after a game. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release Monday that 22-year-old Alberto Escartin Ramos was arrested on a charge of felony battery of a sports official. Deputies say Escartin Ramos disagreed with a call the umpire made during a game Friday night. Deputies say after the game Escartin Ramos went to the clubhouse to complain to the umpire and started screaming at him. When the umpire asked Escartin Ramos to leave, they say he punched the umpire in the face, breaking a tooth and cutting his lip. The online court docket showed no attorney for Escartin Ramos. He was released from jail on a $1,000 bond.
