🏃‍♀️ HHS' Maldonado qualifies for state

BARTON COUNTY – The Hays High girls’ cross country team finished six points out of third place and just missed qualifying for next weeks 5A State Championships. The Indians finished in fourth Saturday at the Great Bend 5A Regional run at the Lake Barton Golf Course.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals qualify for next Saturday's state meet at the 4 Mile Creek Resort in Andover.

HHS freshman freshman Arely Maldonado qualified for state as an individual after a ninth place finish (20:16.59). 

Maize South placed three in the top four and won the team title with 24 points. Great Bend finished in second place with 68 points and Valley Center third with 84.

Maize won the boys race, three points better than Maize South. Great Bend finished third. The Hays High boys placed sixth.

Freshman Leonardo Hernandez led the Indians with a 16th place finish (17:48.73).
