<img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/11/1574351682207.jpeg">DENVER (AP) - Brandon McManus' 53-yard field goal as time expired, set up by a long interference call, capped a furious final 14 seconds and gave the Broncos a 23-20 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Rookie quarterback Drew Lock's debut win for Denver came a month after Brandon Allen beat Cleveland. It made the Broncos the first team in league history to have two quarterbacks start and win their NFL debuts in the same season. The winner by McManus, who stormed off the field just before halftime when coach Vic Fangio changed his mind about letting him attempt a record 65-yard field goal, was set up by a 38-yard pass interference call on Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward Jr. Diontae Spencer returned the kickoff 26 yards to the Denver 28 after the Chargers tied the game at 20 on Michael Badgley's 46-yard field goal with 14 seconds remaining. With 9 seconds left, Lock threw deep down the right sideline to Sutton, who caught his two first-quarter touchdown passes. Sutton collided with Hayward and the yellow flag came out. The Chargers argued vehemently about the defensive pass interference, giving the Broncos the ball at the Chargers 35-yard line with 3 seconds remaining. The Chargers (4-8) continued jawing with both the Broncos (4-8) and the officiating crew as the Broncos ran onto the field following McManus' field goal. Philip Rivers overcame an early interception, his eighth in three games, and a 17-3 deficit with touchdown throws of 30 yards to Austin Ekeler and 36 yards to Keenan Allen. Rivers completed a 38-yard pass to Mike Williams on fourth-and-11 in the closing minutes to get the Chargers in range for the tying field goal. Badgley missed a 55-yarder off the left upright with 9 minutes remaining after Derek Wolfe's second sack of Rivers - his career-best seventh of the season - pushed the Chargers back 5 yards McManus then made a 52-yarder with 4:26 remaining to break a 17-17 tie. With a second left in the first half, McManus trotted out for an attempt at an NFL record length of a field goal with not a hint of wind. But he was summoned back to the sideline after the Chargers sent return man Desmond King II deep in case the kick was short. McManus was furious, ripping off his helmet and slamming it to the ground. After a delay penalty, Lock didn't even try a Hail Mary, instead throwing a 33-yard pass over the middle to Sutton, who was tackled at the 20. When they came out after halftime, McManus lined up at the exact spot and made a practice kick through the uprights in the north end zone. Lock quickly provided a spark to Denver's discordant offense and sent the crowd abuzz despite nearly 20,000 empty seats. After misfiring his first pass and going three-and-out on Denver's opening drive, Luck threw a pair of TD passes to Sutton for a 14-0 lead. Sutton's first was a diving, one-handed 26-yard grab, and his second, a 5-yard reception, was set up by rookie defensive end Dre'Mont Jones' interception at the Chargers 18. Josey Jewell gave Lock his second short field when he smothered Troymaine Pope's muffed punt at the Los Angeles 21 in the second quarter. McManus made it 17-3. INJURIES Broncos: RG Ron Leary left with a concussion in the fourth quarter. ... Wolfe went out after injuring an elbow with 2:22 remaining. ... (AP) - Patrick Mahomes threw for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown, Juan Thornhill returned a pick 46 yards for another score, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the bumbling Oakland Raiders 40-9 on Sunday to seize control of the AFC West. LeSean McCoy and Darwin Thompson also had TD runs for the Chiefs (8-4, who took a two-game lead over the Raiders by finishing off a season sweep. That means Kansas City can clinch a fourth straight division title with a win over New England and an Oakland loss to Tennessee next weekend. Oakland (6-6) sure didn't play like a team fighting for a piece of the division lead. Derek Carr dropped to 0-6 at Arrowhead Stadium with another miserable outing, throwing for 222 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. The Raiders failed to score twice in the red zone, were penalized 12 times for 99 yards, and seemingly quit when Kansas City put together a 9 1/2-minute drive almost entirely on the ground that soaked up most of the fourth quarter. When the Raiders finally scored a touchdown in the last minute, the Chiefs blocked the extra point and returned it for two points - one more insult to Oakland in a game full of them. It was the Raiders' seventh straight loss in Kansas City, and the continuation of a major late-season spiral. The blowout came on the heels of a 34-3 loss to the Jets last weekend. Josh Jacobs was Oakland's lone bright spot, running for 104 yards on 17 carries. Both teams struggled to move the ball at times with frosty winds whipping at 40 mph out of the west. Flurries even fell during halftime, adding to the misery for fans huddled in the stands. As if those dressed in silver and black weren't depressed enough. In the first half alone, Carr threw both of his interceptions. The Raiders lost a fumble on a kick return; failed to convert on fourth-and-1; committed seven penalties; and watched Daniel Carlson yank a 44-yard field-goal attempt about 20 yards wide left. The Chiefs took advantage of all the squandered opportunities. Mahomes, who perhaps more than anyone benefited from a week off, capped a 47-yard drive in the first quarter with a short TD pass to Darrel Williams. Then, late in the first half, the reigning MVP scrambled to his left and ran untouched 13 yards for another touchdown. The Chiefs put the game out of reach in the third quarter. First, they moved swiftly downfield on the opening possession before Harrison Butker drilled a 50-yard field goal into the wind. Then, on their next possession, Mahomes threw a pick in the end zone that was overturned when replay showed wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was held on the play. The penalty gave Kansas City the ball back and McCoy scored moments later. Oakland finally ended the Chiefs' streak of 59 straight points against them when Carlson hit a chip-shot field goal in the fourth quarter. The streak dated to their Week 2 matchup and was a record for a 122-game series that traces its roots to the earliest days of the AFL. It was also ended the Raiders' streak of 15 drives against Kansas City without a point. REID ME A STORY Chiefs coach Andy Reid improved to 25-3 against the AFC West dating to 2015. He also improved to 18-3 in games after a bye, including an 11-1 mark at home, dating to his days in Philadelphia. INJURIES Chiefs: RB Damien Williams (ribs) was inactive. ... Chiefs rout Raiders to seize AFC West control

(AP) — Jordon Brown and Jacardia Wright ran for touchdowns, Joshua Youngblood took a kickoff back 93 yards for another score, and Kansas State beat Iowa State 27-17 in a defensive slugfest Saturday night. The Wildcats (8-4, 5-4 Big 12) only managed 57 yards passing and 288 yards of total offense, but they scored the final 13 points while holding the Cyclones’ high-powered offense in check. Brock Purdy was just 15 of 30 for 185 yards passing and a touchdown, and the Cyclones (7-5, 5-4) finished with 236 yards in all. Their biggest problem came in converting third downs — they were 1 of 13 — and that in turn led to a massive advantage for Kansas State in time of possession. The result: The Wildcats beat the Cyclones for the 11th time in 12 meetings in the game known as “Farmageddon.” They also have won seven straight in Manhattan against their fellow land-grant college. It was Senior Day in Manhattan, but it was a freshman that provided the early fireworks. Youngblood fielded the opening kickoff on a cold, wind-swept night and angled toward the Iowa State sideline, then headed up field. There was nobody in a chrome red helmet between him and the end zone, and the fleet-footed freshman cruised to his nation-leading third kick return TD of the season. Kansas State’s offense soon got on track, too. After taking possession inside its own 10-yard line for the third straight time, the Wildcats used nearly 7 minutes to march 98 yards for the score. They converted three third downs, got some help from a personal foul penalty and capped it with Wright’s 12-yard touchdown run. Iowa State finally gave Purdy time to answer, and the record-setting sophomore quarterback used it to pick apart Kansas State’s well-regarded secondary. Purdy threw a 15-yard strike to Sean Shaw Jr. for a touchdown, then connected with Tarique Milton for 60 yards to set up Breece Hall’s tying touchdown. That score came on fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line, and after Iowa State coach Matt Campbell and Kansas State counterpart Chris Klieman hilariously traded four total timeouts. After trading field goals during an offensively inept third quarter, the Wildcats took advantage of good field position set up by their defense to pull ahead 24-17. Brown finished the methodical eight-play drive — entirely on the ground — by going untouched 15 yards with 10:24 left in the game. The Cyclones were forced to punt on their next possession, and Wright and Youngblood tore off long runs to set up Blake Lynch’s chip-shot field goal that effectively put the game out of reach. BIG PICTURE Iowa State’s offense came into the game sixth nationally in passing at 330.5 yards per game, but Purdy struggled with the stiff, cold wind out of the west. He also got little help from his receivers, who dropped several passes — a few of them on crucial third downs. Kansas State stuck to its persona by running the ball, even though Iowa State led the Big 12 in rush defense, and it paid off. The Wildcats wore the Cyclones down at the line of scrimmage in the fourth quarter and that allowed them to break the 17-all tie. UP NEXT Both teams will await their bowl destinations next weekend.

The Tigers (6-0) were firing on all cylinders from the opening tip, holding the Bluejays to just four points in the first quarter while knocking down nearly 60 percent (10-of-17) from the floor on the other end.&nbsp;Fort Hays State forced 26 turnovers on the night, including 17 steals. While&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5442" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: black;">Jaden Hobbs</a>&nbsp;led the team with three steals, she was just one of 11 different Tigers credited with a steal.&nbsp;Twelve different players scored for Fort Hays State, including 10 players scoring at least six points.&nbsp;Tabor started to find the bottom of the net early in the second quarter, knocking down its first five shots from the floor. But the Tiger defense would soon get back on track, holding the Bluejays scoreless for more than 12 minutes spanning halftime to stretch a 20-point lead into a 45-point advantage. The 25-0 run is the longest scoring run for the Tigers since they scored 26-consecutive points against these same Bluejays nearly two years ago (12/13/17).&nbsp;After the Tigers closed the second quarter on a 10-0 run,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5434" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: black;">Kacey Kennett</a>&nbsp;scored the first seven points of the second half to continue the scoring outburst. Fifth-ranked FHSU women dominant in win over Tabor College

JaMycal Hasty ran for three touchdowns, the Bears forced lowly Kansas into committing six turnovers and they cruised through the second half to a 61-6 victory on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Charlie Brewer threw for 182 yards and a touchdown as Baylor (11-1, 8-1 Big 12, No. 9 CFP) equaled the school record for wins in Matt Rhule’s third season as coach. Trestan Ebner, Gerry Bohanon, Qualan Jones and Jacob Zeno also rushed for TDs as the Bears piled up 263 yards on the ground. Only three times since the program’s founding in 1899 have the Bears won 11 games in a season. “I’m really proud of them not just today but over the past two years, the process that they’ve had, the toughness, the grind,” said Rhule, who now has a chance to avenge a meltdown loss to the seventh-ranked Sooners earlier this month — their only loss of the season. With a spate of upsets Saturday, the Bears are still in the College Football Playoff picture, too. Kansas (3-9, 1-8) finished Les Miles’ first season as coach with its fourth straight loss. Carter Stanley was just 13 of 25 for 92 yards with three of the Jayhawks’ four interceptions in his final game. Manny Miles also threw an interception while Pooka Williams was held to 97 yards rushing. Baylor jumped on the Jayhawks midway through the first quarter when Gerry Bohanon scored from six yards out. Brewer found Tyquan Thornton with a 51-yard touchdown pass a few minutes later, and Hasty scored the first of his trio of touchdowns to make it 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. The rout was most certainly on. Baylor added a pair of field quals along with Trestan Ebner’s 14-yard touchdown run to carry a 34-0 lead into halftime, and Hasty tacked on a pair of touchdown runs to start the second half. The lone highlight for Kansas came when Miles, the backup quarterback and the coach’s son, threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Parchment. And even that was spoiled by a failed two-point conversion. "Whatever could've gone wrong,” Les Miles said, “did go wrong.” PUNT SUCCESS Kansas punter Kyle Thompson landed three punts inside the 20, including one that dropped at the 1-yard line. But it’s rarely a good day when the punter is the standout performer. REDZONE PERFECTION The high-powered Baylor offense entered the Kansas red zone nine times, converting each time. It was an impressive display by a team that could be headed for a shootout against the Sooners. 1,000-YARD MARK Williams became the second player in program history with consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. He accomplished the feat despite missing the season opener because of a suspension. BIG PICTURE Baylor: The Bears were rolling against Oklahoma when the teams met earlier this month, only to let a big lead slip away in a 34-31 loss. But they’ve taken care of business the past two weeks, and their defense has been a big reason. They knocked off Texas 24-10 before shutting down the Jayhawks. Kansas: Another lackluster season in Lawrence came to an end, though there is hope for the future after a couple of impressive performances. The Jayhawks finally won a road game by beating Boston College and they had Texas on the ropes before losing a shootout in Austin. UP NEXT Baylor meets Oklahoma in the rejuvenated Big 12 title game while the Kansas coaching staff hits the recruiting trail in search of more talent on both sides of the ball.

Osborne lost last year's state title game to Hanover in heartbreaking 58-50 fashion. It would be fair to say this group has some championship experience, and while 3 title game appearances in 4 years is certainly an accomplishment, it just wouldn't mean as much if not finished with a title. Osborne, led by a senior class of 6 strong, completed that impressive 4 year run with a title, defeating the Axtell Eagles 34-26 at Fischer field in Newton. That outcome was in doubt several times, as Axtell struck first, going up 6-0 on a 5-yard run by freshman Isaac Detwiler. However, Osborne was able to respond in a hurry, cashing in on a 3-yard touchdown by senior Steele Wolters. That knotted things at 6. The second quarter was more of the same, as the two teams traded touchdowns. It looked as though Osborne would take a 14-12 lead into the break, however, a long hailmary pass from Axtell senior standout Quinn Buessing was hauled in in the end zone by junior Mitchell Buessing. The ensuing two-point conversion was converted, giving the Eagles a 20-14 at halftime. Osborne received the second half kickoff and wasted little time in driving down the field. Talented senior Darien Holloway broke off a long 45-yard touchdown run tying the game at 20. A successful conversion followed, giving the Bulldogs a 22-20. Buessing and company drove down the field, and Quinn ran in another touchdown, giving the Eagles the 26-22 lead. A huge credit to the Bulldog defense who stiffened the rest of the way . Ove the last 15 minutes of game time, the Bulldog defense intercepted Buessing twice and Steele Wolters ran in two touchdowns, one with under 2 minute to play, giving the Bulldogs a 34-26 lead. However, the Eagles had the ball back with a 1:55 on the clock and a chance to tie the game. That chance was quickly thwarted when sophomore Mason Schurr intercepted Buessing on a deep post pattern. Osborne could kneel it out from there, giving them their 4th state title in school history! The Osborne rushing attack was impressive as always, as 3 different rushers crossed the 100-yard mark. Mason Schurr ran 22 times for 120 yards and a touchdown. Darien Holloway finished his impressive career with 20 carries for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day. Steele Wolters, the guard turned quarterback, had a monster day with 13 carries for 116 yards and 3 touchdowns. Quinn Buessing, who was a four year starter for the Eagles and widely regarded as one of the better 8-man passing quarterbacks to ever play, finished 13 of 20 for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran in a score, but threw 2 interceptions. The Eagles finished the season a 11-2, a one win improvement from last year's 10-2 campaign. The Eagles lone state title came in 1993. They have had runner-up showings in 1985 and 2019. The Bulldogs finished an undefeated season at 13-0. The Bulldogs now have 4 state titles in 5 tries, with 3 of those titles at the 8-man level ('13,'16,'19). Coach Steve Tiernan now has 4 state titles, 2 of which have come with the Bulldogs.

<img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/11/1574351682207.jpeg">HAYS – Exactly 10 years have gone by since the Centralia Panthers claimed their first football state title and ended the Smith Center Redmen run of 79 straight games with an overtime victory. The two teams would meet once again Saturday at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays with the Redmen looking for their third state title and a state record 11th championship but just like 10 years ago the Panthers would play spoiler in an 18-14 come from behind win. The Redmen scored the games from points when senior quarterback Trenton Colby scored on a 21 yard touchdown run that capped off a 13-play 78-yard drive to give Smith Center a 7-0 lead after the extra point. It took Centralia just two plays to answer with a touchdown of their own. Kamble Haverkamp scored his first of three rushing touchdowns to make it 7-6 after the two-point conversion failed at the end of the first quarter.&nbsp;Colby scored his second rushing touchdown, from 13 yards out, to cap off a six play, 38 yard drive that made it 14-6 with just under one minute left in the first half. In the third quarter Smith Center turned it over on downs after a pair of long drives and the fact that they failed to scored turnout out to be huge. With the wind in the face of the Redmen Centralia forced Smith Center to punt into the 35 mph wind and got the short field in the fourth quarter twice, both times they took advantage. With 6:45 to play Haverkamp scored from 37 yards out to cut the deficit to 14-12 and then with just under a minute left he scored again, this time from two yards out to put Centralia up 18-14. Smith Center out gained the Panthers 257 to 148 total yards. Colby lead all rushers with 138 yards. Haverkamp led the Panthers with 104 rushing yards. Smith Center finishes the season 12-1. Centralia also finishes 12-1 and claims their fourth state championship.

(AP) — Nate Kennell scored 22 points and Bradley beat Kansas State 73-60 as the 2019 NCAA Tournament teams met in the third-place game of the second annual Fort Myers Tip-Off on Wednesday night. Kennell made 6 of 8 3-pointers for the Braves (5-2) and Darrell Brown, who made 4 of 8 behind the arc, added 15 points. Kansas State didn’t score for the first 6:09 of the second half to fall behind 44-37. The Wildcats never could catch up. Xavier Sneed led the Wildcats (4-2) with 15 points and Cartier Diarra and Shaun Williams both added 10 points. After strongly criticizing his team’s play in a 78-51 loss to Northwestern on Monday, Brian Wardle saw his Braves get off to a great start by going up 14-6 early. “That was out of character,” forward Elijah Childs said. “We didn’t go out and do what we were told in the game plan. Tonight, we listened to each other instead of bickering.” When Kansas State made a 19-9 run to go up 25-23, Bradley didn’t back down and led 38-37 at halftime. Wardle liked his team’s competitive spirit. “We competed and defended and that’s how the program has grown every year,” he said. “It wasn’t there Monday, I don’t know why. It’s November. I challenged them and there are high-character kids in the locker room.” Kansas State coach Bruce Weber said his team has to go back to the drawing board. “We all tried to make plays but we gotta play for each other,” Weber said. “We gotta admit we got our butts kicked, that we’ll get better and that we have to practice better. It starts with us as a staff but they gotta want to get better.” BIG PICTURE Bradley: The Braves, who added nine players to a team that gave Michigan State all it could handle in the NCAAs, had the kind of bounce-back effort that will make it a factor in the Missouri Valley Conference. Kansas State: The Wildcats, who didn’t have Montavious Murphy (knee) for the tournament, struggled inside and went into scoring lulls. Those are areas they’ll have to improve on if they want to avoid a ninth-place predicted finish in the Big 12. KEY STATS Bradley made 13 of 23 3-pointers and 24-of-48 overall. It helped overcome 23 turnovers. “I loved our pace,” Wardle said. “I didn’t like the defense. We were running and shooting quickly and I wanted us to continue. I think both teams ran out of gas in the second half and that’s when it came down to execution.” MVC LESSON Weber, who coached at Southern Illinois, said he warned his team Bradley would play with a lot of pride. “I coached in the Valley and I know how important it is to them,” Weber said. “They pushed it up on us. Our defense has been good but they had a lot of guys making 3-pointers.” NEXT YEAR Wisconsin, Butler, Colorado and South Florida will play in the 2020 Fort Myers Tip-Off. Wisconsin made Final Four trips in 2014 and 2015 and Butler went in 2010 and 2011. Next season will be third Fort Myers Tip-Off. Boston College won the inaugural event. K-State falls to Bradley at Fort Myers Tip-Off

Big man Udoka Azubuike bulled his way through Dayton’s defense all day, particularly in overtime, and even hit his free throws. The duo is one of the best Bill Self has had in 16 seasons at Kansas. They’re certainly a big reason the Jayhawks won their third Maui Invitational title and will be among the favorites to cut down the nets in April. Dotson scored 31 points, Azubuike had seven of his 29 in overtime and No. 4 Kansas outlasted Dayton 90-84 in the Maui Invitational championship game on Wednesday. “When he has it going and the attention is on him, that opens up for other players,” Dotson said. “So it's just kind of a 1-2 punch. We read the defense, take what's given to us.” The Flyers and Jayhawks spent much of the afternoon trading leads and highlight-reel plays in a bleacher-shaking atmosphere inside the bandbox Lahaina Civic Center. Kansas (6-1) looked as if it would run away with a late 11-0 run in regulation. The Flyers refused to back down, tying it when Jalen Crutcher buried a 3-pointer from about 5 feet behind the new, deeper arc with 2.1 seconds left. “When he had the ball in his hands I went straight to the rim and I told him, ‘Just let it go,’” said Ryan Mikesell, who led Dayton with 19 points. “He's a competent shooter and fortunate enough it went in.” The Jayhawks absorbed the blow and delivered a few in overtime with their 7-foot, 270-pound center. Kansas went to Azubuike early in the overtime and the big man delivered, scoring three baskets at the rim. A 32% free throw shooter entering the game, he also hit three from the line in overtime. Marcus Garrett made three free throws in the final 18 seconds to seal Kansas’ second Maui title in four years. “I do think we got some competitive pieces that, if we improve a little bit, this could be a pretty dangerous team down the stretch,” Self said. Dayton made a name for itself by winning the first two Maui games, then went toe-to-toe with a blue-blood in the final. The Flyers (5-1) came up short against Azubuike and the Jayhawks, but they figure to be a popular pick when the brackets come out in March. Obi Toppin had 18 points and Dayton finished 16 for 33 from 3-point range to keep Kansas within reach. “Obviously, it's a tough loss, but like I told them in the locker room, whatever it was, five, six days ago when we came here we wanted to find out what we needed to do as a team to continue to move forward, I think these guys did a great job of answering that,” Dayton coach Anthony Grant said. “They fought obviously to the very end.” Toppin dominated the first two games, scoring 49 combined points while hitting 19 of 25 shots. The Flyers took down Georgia of the SEC and Virginia Tech of the ACC in Maui. The Jayhawks imposed their massive will on two undersized opponents to open the tournament, taking down Division II Chaminade and BYU. As expected, Dayton and Kansas played a fast-paced, high-level game with the championship on the line, trading dunks, 3-pointers and buckets in transition. With Kansas doubling Toppin in the post on every touch, the Flyers worked their kickout game, hitting their first five 3-pointers and eight in the first half to lead 37-36. The Jayhawks had success getting the ball down low early for dunks and that opened things up for Dotson, who had 17 points by halftime. The shots kept falling, the crowd kept roaring and the lead stayed tight to start the second half. “That was a great basketball game,” Self said. “Two good teams competing against each other and in a terrific atmosphere.” BIG PICTURE Dayton burst into the national consciousness with its run in Maui, beating two larger-conference schools and taking Kansas to the wire. Kansas survived a tying shot at the end of regulation and wore the Flyers down with its size in the overtime. With top-ranked Duke and No. 3 Michigan State both losing, the Jayhawks should move up in Monday’s AP Top 25. UP NEXT Dayton hosts Houston Baptist on Tuesday. Kansas hosts Colorado on Dec. 7.

No. 4 Kansas beats Dayton in overtime for Maui title

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) - David McCormack scored 16 points, Ochai Agbaji added 14 and No. 4 Kansas turned a huge second half into a trip to the Maui Invitational title game with a 71-56 victory over Brigham Young on Tuesday night. The Jayhawks (5-1) dominated inside against the smaller Cougars and did a good job of rotating out to their shooters to earn a shot at their third Maui Invitational championship. Kansas opened the second half with a big run to build a double-digit lead and outscored BYU 42-18 in the paint. The Jayhawks will face Dayton in Wednesday's title game. BYU (4-3) was bothered Kansas' length on defense, finishing 9 for 33 from behind the 3-point line. TJ Haws had 16 points, but Cougars leading scorer Jake Toolson was held to seven on 3-of-9 shooting. Kansas overwhelmed Division II Chaminade 93-63 in its Maui opener by utilizing its massive size advantage. The also-undersized Cougars used ball movement and perimeter shooting to blow past UCLA 78-63 in their opener. Neither team was particularly efficient offensively early in the semifinals, trading turnovers and clanks on the soft Lahaina Civic Center rims. The Jayhawks found a small semblance of rhythm late in the first half and locked on the Cougars defensively, holding them scoreless for 7 1/2 minutes. BYU finally hit a few shots late and was within 29-27 at halftime. Kansas got on a roll to start the second period by getting the ball inside, opening with a 13-2 run to go up 42-31. The Jayhawks piled on after that with a 19-4 spurt and hit 17 of 32 shots in the second half. BIG PICTURE BYU pulled off one upset by knocking off UCLA in its opener, but had a hard time matching Kansas' size in the semifinals. The Jayhawks shook off some early ugliness on offense with a dominant second half to earn a shot at adding to the 1996 and 2015 titles in their trophy case. No. 4 Kansas beats BYU for spot in Maui title game

FHSU Sports Information KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southwest Baptist held a comfortable lead for the majority of the game, but Fort Hays State made a late surge and had a couple looks to tie in the final seconds of a neutral site contest at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City on Tuesday. The Bearcats escaped with a 74-71 victory, improving to 5-1, while the Tigers fell to 3-2. Southwest Baptist went on a 13-0 run in the first half, pushing an 11-10 lead to 24-10 between the 12:51 and 10:02 marks on the clock. FHSU never climbed closer than 11 points in the first half and SBU took a 39-27 lead into halftime. The SBU lead remained in double figures until FHSU trimmed the lead to eight, 59-51, with 8:32 to go on an Alvin Thompson jumper. SBU pushed its lead back into double figures a couple more times before FHSU made the game interesting late. A Devin Davis 3-point play with 4:15 to go cut the lead down to nine. He canned a jumper with 3:28 to go to cut the lead to seven. Then Calvin Harrington pulled the Tigers within four with a 3-point field goal at the 2:33 mark. Southwest Baptist responded with a 6-0 run to get its lead back to 10 with 57 seconds remaining, but full-court pressure from the Tigers gave them one more crack at coming back. Davis hit a shot, was fouled, and then grabbed his own rebound off the free throw and hit a stick back to instantly cut the lead to six. The Tigers created a steal and then Aaron Nicholson hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining cutting the lead to three. The teams traded two points each before the final thrilling frenzy from the Tigers. Nicholson stole SBU's inbounds pass with eight seconds remaining. Harrington missed a three and then Nicholson had a good look just before the horn that was just off the mark to the left. Davis led the Tigers with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, while tying for a team-high six rebounds with Jared Vitztum. Thompson added 12 points and Harrington had 10. Quinn Nelson had a pure stroke for the Bearcats throughout, finishing with 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including a 6-of-8 effort beyond the 3-point line. Brady Smith added 17, Godfrey Rolle had 11, and Joe Miller had 10. SBU remained strong from the field the entire game, shooting over 50 percent from the field in both halves. The Bearcats finished at 52.1 percent for the game. FHSU shot 43.3 percent overall for the game, but just 25 percent beyond the 3-point line. After an 0-of-10 start beyond the arc, the Tigers finished at 8-of-32. FHSU returns home to take on Sterling College on Saturday night (Nov. 30) at 7 pm for the first home contest of the season.

Tigers rally falls short against Bearcats

There will be a welcome prayer at 6:45 p.m. followed by the introduction of the 2019-20 teams, recognition of last year’s boys 3A final four team, and layup and three-point shooting contests. The TMP-Marian boys are ranked 10th in 3A after finishing fourth last season. In class 2A the Hoxie boys start the season ranked fifth followed by sixth ranked Plainville and Ellis is ranked eighth. The Osborne boys are the only area team ranked in 1A. They are ranked sixth. The Trego girls are ranked fourth in class 2A to start the season. In 1A Thunder Ridge is ranked sixth and Otis-Bison ninth.

Cooper earned MIAA Wrestler of the Week for his efforts at the Bethany Swede Open in Lindsborg, Kan. He went 5-0 at the tournament, recording a fall, three tech falls, and a decision.&nbsp;Cooper took first place at 285 pounds. He dominated his first two matches, knocking off Wyatt Wells (Labette CC) 18-3 in the opening round before defeating Dustin Mason (Bethany) 20-2. He blanked Nate Connelly (Hastings) 18-0 in the quarterfinals. Cooper earned a spot in the title bout thanks to an 8-3 decision against Lee Herrington (Nebraska-Kearney) before recording a late pin in the championship bout against Korinthian Nabors (Lindenwood-Belleville).

FHSU's Cooper Named MIAA Wrestler of the Week

This past season, as a pitcher Jacobs made 15 appearances, eight starts, and was 4-1 with a 3.47 earned run average. In 34.1 innings pitched Jacobs struck out 49 while allowing 17 earned runs. Jacobs also finished with a .343 batting average, two home runs and 25 runs driven in. Game time is set for 1:30 pm. With Southwest Baptist leaving the MIAA following the 2018-19 season, the teams will meet in non-conference play for the first time since 2005-06. FHSU enters at 3-1 overall and SBU is 4-1 overall. The Jayhawks (4-1) jumped on the Silverswords (2-1) with a huge early run and never let up, shooting 55% while making 12 of 29 from 3-point range. Kansas scored 36 points off Chaminade's 27 turnovers and had a 50-22 advantage in the paint. Isaiah Moss had 13 points for the two-time Maui champion Jayhawks, who move on to face UCLA or BYU in Tuesday's semifinals. Andre Arissol had 18 points and Tyler Cartaino 17 to lead Chaminade. Kansas opened the season with a two-point loss to Duke after turning it over a whopping 28 times. The Jayhawks have gotten a better grip since then, heading into Maui with three straight double-digit wins. Chaminade returned to the championship round this year after playing in the opening rounds last season. The tournament hosts have had a knack for pulling off upsets against bigger opponents, most recently against California in 2017. They did hit 47% of their shots, went 18 of 21 on free throws and had a 40-30 rebounding advantage. “When you have 21 turnovers and two assists, how do you win a game like that?” Pitt coach Jeff Capel said. “You go out and rebound like we did. Show toughness. Kansas State: Picked to finish ninth in the Big 12, the Wildcats play defense of an NCAA-Tournament caliber team but offense can be hard to find at times, especially if Sneed struggles to score and Makol Mawien gets in foul trouble like they did Monday night. They came in averaging a combined 25.5 points per game but ended up with 12 against Pitt. Taylor Rolfs added 11 and Belle Barbiere had 10 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double. The Tigers scored 48 points off 28 Saint Mary turnovers. The senior is averaging a team-high 12.8 points and leads the team and the MIAA with 12.5 rebounds per contest. Kacey Kennett ranks second in the conference and 19th in Division II with 3.8 steals per game. Fort Hays State is 61-5 in November under Hobson, including 31 consecutive victories in the opening month of the season. The Tigers have won their last 38 non-conference regular season games and 71 of their last 72. (AP) — Josh Allen threw two touchdowns passing and Shaq Lawson had two of Buffalo's four sacks in a 20-3 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday that has the Bills off to their best start in 23 years. John Brown made a diving 34-yard touchdown catch, and Cole Beasley scored on an 18-yard reception. Allen finished 15 of 25 for 185 yards and threw his first interception in 172 attempts. Frank Gore had 65 yards rushing to up his total to 15,289 and move ahead of boyhood idol Barry Sanders into third on the NFL career list. The 15-year veteran also increased his total to 19,154 yards from scrimmage to pass Marshall Faulk for fourth on the list. Rookie Ed Oliver and Star Lotulelei had a sack apiece, while cornerback Tre'Davious White snuffed out a potential scoring drive by intercepting Brandon Allen at the Buffalo 8 in the final minute of the first half. Buffalo improved to 8-3, to match its best start since Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly's final season in 1996, while keeping the Bills firmly in position to secure their second playoff berth in three years. The Broncos dropped to 3-8 in Vic Fangio's first season as coach, and for the second time in three years. And it might be time for Fangio to look to the future after quarterback Brandon Allen went 3 of 14 for 4 yards in the second half and finished 10 of 25 for 82 yards passing with an interception. Brandon Allen dropped to 1-2 in three starts after Joe Flacco sustained a season-ending neck injury. And Allen's replacement is already waiting in the wings. Rookie second-round draft pick Drew Lock has spent the past two weeks practicing since being sidelined in August by an injury to his right thumb. Last week, Fangio said he wasn't any closer to targeting a possible return date for Lock, who would remain on IR the rest of the season if he's not activated by Dec. 3. Activating Lock would at least provide some substance to what's become a lost season for a team that was coming off a 27-23 loss at Minnesota in which the Broncos squandered a 20-0 lead. A week after managing a season-best 394 yards against the Vikings, the Broncos managed just 134 yards and nine first downs against the Bills. This was an important win for Buffalo, which now enters the toughest stretch of its season. Starting with a game at Dallas on Thursday, the Bills' next four opponents entered this week with a combined record of 28-12. This come after Buffalo built its 8-3 record by beating many of the NFL's pushovers. The Bills' previous seven wins — including two against Miami — came against teams that entered this week with a combined 15-55 record. Anthony Scantlin placed third in the Elite 157 bracket, while A.J. Cooper (Elite 285) and Aryus Jones (Elite 184) both placed fourth in their divisions.&nbsp;Anthony Scantlin placed third after a 4-1 record on the day. He opened the with a 4-3 decision over Walker Johnson of host Nebraska-Kearney before picking up a second period pin in his second bout of the day. After a narrow defeat in the semifinals, Scantlin captured decisions in his next two matches in the consolation bracket to take home third place.&nbsp;A.J. Cooper recorded four wins on the day en route to a fourth-place finish at 285 pounds. The junior opened the day with a 6-1 decision before falling in the second round via a 6-2 decision. Cooper got back on track with a first period pin before picking up a 12-3 major decision win. He advanced to the final bout in the consolation bracket with an 8-6 consolation win before taking fourth via forfeit.&nbsp;Aryus Jones earned a fourth-place finish in the Elite 184 pound bracket after a 3-2 day on the mat. Jones opened the day with a loss via fall in the second period before three-straight backside wins. The sophomore knocked off a pair of Orediggers from Colorado School of Mines via decision, 12-7 and 4-2, before advancing to the third-place bout following a 16-5 major decision. Jones came up short in the final match of the day, falling 7-0 to take home fourth place.&nbsp;Jordan Davis turned in a 2-2 record in the Elite 285 competition, with both of his wins coming via pin.
