HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State women's soccer program announced the commitment of transfer Lynette Hawkins for the upcoming 2023 season. Hawkins is a transfer from University of Tennessee-Martin, where she spent two years and was a starter for the Skyhawks last year. She has been a member of the Puerto Rico national team. Hawkins saw one year on the pitch at UT-Martin after having to miss the 2021 season due to injury. In 2022, she started 15 matches at defender and notched one assist. She was the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week once during the 2022 season and was a two-time all-academic performer in the OVC. Prior to her two years at UT-Martin, Hawkins spent two years at Western Illinois University. She earned Summit League All-Freshman Team honors in 2019 and was named Western Illinois' Newcomer of the Year. She started all 17 matches she played and logged a total of 1,495 minutes, playing the entirety of nine matches and over 100 minutes in a pair of double overtime matches. She was also an all-academic performer in the Summit League. She opted not to participate in the COVID-19 year of 2020-21. Hawkins is from Aurora, Colorado, where she was a first-team all-league performer at Cherokee Trail High School. She has been a member of both the Puerto Rico U19 national team and the senior national team.&nbsp;&nbsp;

HAYS - The Hays High baseball team wrapped up their regular season by hosting Washburn Rural on Wednesday. The Indians and Junior Blues were supposed to play April 4th but weather forced the delay.

The Indians split with the Junior Blues to end the regular season at 11-9.

Hays will find their postseason destination on Friday.

Game 1: Hays 8, Washburn Rural 1 Hays scored two runs in the first and six in the sixth for an 8-1 win over the Junior Blues in the first game.

A pair of first innings singles by Jack Weimer and Greg Hughes led to the game's first two runs. Weimer scored on a passed ball that ricocheted into the Washburn Rural dugout awarding the Indians two bases and their first run. The second run came on a balk call against the Junior Blues pitcher.

Carter Graham worked five scoreless innings before giving up a run in the top of the sixth cutting the Hays lead down to 2-1.

Graham helped out his own cause in the bottom of the inning igniting a six run frame with an RBI single to push the lead to 3-1.

Graham took the win working a career high six innings and was lifted after hitting the pitch limit. Graham also recorded two hits. Nolan Dreher worked the top of the seventh.

Game 2: Washburn Rural 6, Hays 1 Washburn Rural did all of their damage in two innings. The Junior Blues scored three runs in each the third and seventh inning.&nbsp;

All three of their third innings runs occurred with two outs. The Junior Blues scored three more in the top of the seventh on three hits.

The Indians lone run came on an errant pick off throw that plated Will Cadoret.

Carson Spray took the loss working four innings and allowing three runs. Cooper Johnson went three innings in relief and allowed three runs. Spray recorded two hits.

⚾ Hays splits with Washburn Rural to end regular season

The term student-athlete is used to describe any high school or collegiate athlete. Many times the athletic part of that statement directs a high school athlete to their college destination.

The script for Hays High senior Avery Winter was a little different. Winter decided to attend Washburn University because they were the only school in Kansas to offer the Forensic Investigation major she was looking for.

The Ichabods have a relatively new track program and as Winter started to invesitgate she noticed that the female athletes that entered the program had improved their times by quite a bit. Something that she had noticed about her own times at the end of cross country.

Winter runs the 800 meters and 4x800 relay. Running has become a passion and borderline obsession for her and know that can continue with her passion for school as well at Washburn.

HAYS, Kan. - The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) announced last week to its membership that the 2024 Class 3-2-1A Boys State Wrestling Tournament will be held in Salina. Fort Hays State University has home conference basketball games scheduled that weekend in February that involve four MIAA institutions, conflicting with dates of the state wrestling tournament. "We realize the significance to our community of facilitating multiple events throughout the year," FHSU Director of Athletics Curtis Hammeke said. "Our staff works diligently attempting to balance these events with our own schedules. When we realized that solutions for solving the basketball conflict were not realistic logistically, we began to explore alternatives to keep a tournament in Hays." "The Kansas State High School Activities Association appreciates the longstanding efforts of the Fort Hays State University Athletic Department and the Hays community in providing championship caliber efforts while hosting state championship events for our member school students and communities," KSHSAA Executive Director Bill Faflick said. "We truly appreciate the FHSU administrators in trying to creatively solve the scheduling conflict. This move for next year is no indication that KSHSAA is moving the state wrestling event permanently. We analyze our sites for all our state championships annually to make the best decisions for our schools and hosts." FHSU proposed to host the Girls 4A-1A state tournament the week before on Thursday, February 15 and Friday, February 16, along with a Boys regional on Saturday, February 17. Eventually, KSHSAA opted to have both tournaments in Salina over a three day period during the traditional championship week. "We felt like we had a good proposal, but an alternative concept was selected," Hammeke said. "We remain hopeful to have either a boys or girls state wrestling championship in Hays in the future. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nick Pratto homered and Brad Keller won for the first time in nearly a month as the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 9-1 on Wednesday night.

Keller (3-3), who leads the majors with 32 walks allowed, got into immediate trouble walking the first two batters he faced, but escaped first-inning damage with a double play and strikeout.

“We had a chance to put some runs on the board in the first inning and we didn’t,” White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. “We had them on the ropes there and he was able to get out of it.”

Gavin Sheets walked to lead off the second and scored on Hanser Alberto’s single for Chicago’s lone run.

“The walks in the beginning, he easily could have fought himself hard,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “(He showed) some resolve. He really executed some pitches, especially with the off-speed stuff. The third inning he came out and threw some good fastballs in the zone. That kind of reset the match-up. It wasn’t just one pitch they had to worry about.”

Keller finished five innings, allowing one run on three hits and four walks, striking out four to earn his first win since April 12.

“I think that (third) was by far my best inning,” Keller said. “The offense putting up numbers like they did allowed me to just go out there and throw strikes. That inning gave me confidence to keep going.”

The Royals batted around in the first, collecting six hits, including Pratto’s two-out RBI single, grabbing a 4-0 lead while forcing Lance Lynn (1-5) to toss 37 pitches in the inning.

“Making pitchers work, making them earn their outs, that’s a big thing in this game,” Pratto said. “If you can make the other team work we’re going to get opportunities to do damage.”

Lynn surrendered seven runs on nine hits two walks, fanning four over five innings.

“A lot of mistakes in the middle of the plate,” Lynn said. “I couldn’t get the ball elevated when I needed to and when I tried to go down it was in the middle of the plate, too. They made me pay for it.”

Pratto’s homer, a two-run shot to right, gave Kansas City a 7-1 lead in the fifth.

Michael Massey opened the fourth with his first home run of the season and Edward Olivares opened the seventh with his third homer. Massey and Vinnie Pasquantino each produced three hits.

“The home runs, obviously, were big,” Quatraro said. “It was just nice that it was production up and down. Walks, tough at-bats that we fought through. Really positive night overall for the offense.”

Four Royals relievers fanned seven over four scoreless innings.

Chicago had six hits, all singles. Luis Robert Jr. struck out four times, snapping an eight-game hitting streak.

White Sox OF Billy Hamilton was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 7 with a left hamstring strain.

White Sox RHP Nick Padilla was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, OF Jake Marisnick’s contract was selected from Charlotte, and RHP Alexander Colomé was designated for assignment.

🏀 FHSU women sign Bishop Carroll point guard

LARCHWOOD, Iowa - Fort Hays State junior golfer Morgan Brasser&nbsp;finished in a tie for 29th at the 2023 NCAA Division II Central Regional, held May 8-10 at Grand Falls Casino &amp; Golf Resort. She completed the three-round tournament with a score of 14-over 230 on the par-72, 6,095-yard course. Brasser opened the week with a round of 10-over 82 in the opening round before improving by four strokes with a 6-over 78 in Tuesday's round two. She wrapped up the week with a 2-under 70 on Wednesday, one of nine under-par rounds all week. The Andale, Kan. native circled four birdies in the final round, including three in a row on holes seven, eight and nine. It was Brasser's third-consecutive trip to the regional championships, tied for the most in program history (Hannah Perkins). The 2023 MIAA Women's Golfer of the Year finished the season with a school-record stroke average of 75.82, lowering her career average to a school-record 77.24 across 71 rounds of competition. She fired nine rounds at-or-under par, including two rounds of 69 that tied the school record. Brasser won three tournaments this season in addition to six top-five finishes and eight top-10s. Sixth-ranked Henderson State rallied to take the team title at 13-over 877 after posting a 2-under 286 in the final round. Northeastern State's Yasmin Hang turned in a final-round 3-under 69 to win by one stroke, finishing the week at 4-under 212.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She completed the three-round tournament with a score of 14-over 230 on the par-72, 6,095-yard course. Brasser opened the week with a round of 10-over 82 in the opening round before improving by four strokes with a 6-over 78 in Tuesday's round two. She wrapped up the week with a 2-under 70 on Wednesday, one of nine under-par rounds all week. The Andale, Kan. native circled four birdies in the final round, including three in a row on holes seven, eight and nine. It was Brasser's third-consecutive trip to the regional championships, tied for the most in program history (Hannah Perkins). The 2023 MIAA Women's Golfer of the Year finished the season with a school-record stroke average of 75.82, lowering her career average to a school-record 77.24 across 71 rounds of competition. She fired nine rounds at-or-under par, including two rounds of 69 that tied the school record. Brasser won three tournaments this season in addition to six top-five finishes and eight top-10s. Sixth-ranked Henderson State rallied to take the team title at 13-over 877 after posting a 2-under 286 in the final round. KANSAS CITY, Mo, (AP) — Andrew Vaughn's two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

Lucas Giolito (2-2) allowed two runs on five hits over six innings in a game that started two hours late because of rain.

Kendall Graveman worked the ninth for his first save. He said the delay played into his hands.

“It was a bonus for me pitching at 9 at night because I'm a night owl,” he said. “I was right at home. It was one of those nights when the stuff was a little bit better, velocity-wise.”

Jordan Lyles (0-6) threw a complete game, the first by a Royals pitcher in more than two years, allowing four runs on six hits with no walks. Brad Keller was the last Kansas City starter to go the distance, in his 11-0 shutout of Pittsburgh on Sept. 13, 2020.

“He’s incredible," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of Lyles. "He always wants the next inning, whether he pitches five, six, seven, eight. He always wants one more.

"His stuff was good. They got to him for a couple homers. But that’s a huge thing for us to refresh the bullpen. And at the same time, he gave us a chance to win the game, too.”

Vinnie Pasquantino homered in the first and drove in both of the Royals' runs.

“I got a little angry giving up that home run in the first inning,” Giolito said. “For me, pitching angry can go one way or the other. Tonight, we were able to channel that into aggression in the strike zone.”

Once the game got started, it moved quickly. The first five innings took just 1:01 to complete. Giolito gave up one run on three hits through five while Lyles gave up a run on two hits. But both pitchers ran into trouble in the sixth.

Lenys Sosa led off the Chicago sixth with a double and with one out, Vaughn hit a sinker from Lyles 422 feet into the bullpen in left.

“I think all of Vaughn's home runs have either tied or put us ahead,” White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. “He's been Mr. Clutch. Every time he hits one it's a big one.”

Bobby Witt Jr. led off the bottom of the inning with a triple down the right-field line. He was clocked at 11.09 seconds from the plate to third — the second-fastest triple in the majors this season behind Arizona's Corbin Carroll (10.91 seconds) on April 25, also at Kansas City. Witt scored on a bloop hit Pasquantino.

Giolito then walked two of the next three batters, loading the bases with one out. But he got Hunter Dozier to pop out and Freddy Fermin to hit into a fielder's choice.

Seby Zavala had a two-out RBI single in the seventh for Chicago.

Luis Robert made it 1-1 in the fourth when he lined the first pitch from Lyles 430 feet into the bullpen in left. It was the first baserunner Lyles allowed.

Royals LHP Ryan Yarbrough, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday with broken bones in his face after taking a 106-mph line drive off the bat of Oakland's Ryan Noda on Sunday, was released from the hospital Monday night. Quatraro said Yarbrough had a follow-up Tuesday and will not need surgery. He'll have another follow-up in a month before he can return to more strenuous activity.

Chicago RHP Lance Lynn (1-4, 6.68 ERA) faces Kansas City’s Brad Keller (2-3, 4.67) in the third game of the four-game series.

👟 HMS 8th grade girls record(s) breaking season

ANDOVER – The Hays High softball team saw their nine-game
win-streak snapped Tuesday. The Indians lost 3-1 to Andover Central then had
their seventh inning rally fall short in an 11-9 setback to Salina South.

Hays is now 13-5. They close the regular season at home
Friday with a split doubleheader with Newton and Manhattan at the Bickle-Schmidt
Sports Complex.

Game 1: Andover Central 3, Hays 1 
The Jaguars scored two in the bottom of the third to take the lead then added
an insurance run in the fourth.

The Indians scored their line run in the top of the first.
Aubree Thomas led off the game with a double then scored on Riley Dreher’s one-out
double.

Aubree Thomas doubled in the third for the Indians only other
hit in the game.

Thomas went the distance in the circle, allowing two earned
runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: Salina South 11, Hays 9 
The Cougars
built a 7-0 lead and were up 10-2 before the Indians mounted a comeback with
two in the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh.

Aubree Thomas started the comeback with a two-run double in the
sixth. She added a grand slam with two outs in the seventh. Dezerae Schmidt
followed with a single but a groundout ended the game.

Thomas finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs.
Schmidt added three hits. Ashlun Zimmer drove in two runs.

Riley Dreher allowed six runs (two earned) on three hits with
two strikeouts and two walks over two innings and took the loss. Thomas pitched
the final five innings and allowed five runs on six hits with four strikeouts
and a walk.

PHILLIPSBURG – The TMP-Marian boys golf team finished in first place at Tuesday’s Phillipsburg Mel Schremmer Invitational at the
Phillipsburg Golf Club. The Monarchs shot a 353 and finished 13 shots ahead of second place Phillipsburg. Ellis finished third with a 374.

Ellis’ Austin Carroll won the individual title with a 7-over-par
75. Norton’s Eli Jones finished second with a 76 and TMP-Marian’s Pake Dewey
third with a 78. The Monarchs Heuer Brungardt shot an 85 and placed sixth.

Hays Post HAYS - The Hays High girls' soccer team scored early and often and cruised to a 13-0 win over a depleted TMP-Marian squad Tuesday at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.

The Indians (12-3) have won three straight and nine of their last 10. They close out the regular season at Garden City Friday.

Dani Willeford scored the Indians (12-3) first goal two minutes into the match which was called at halftime by mercy rule.

Karlee Crispin recorded the hat trick with three goals. Claire Humphrey and Arely Maldonado both scored twice. Annie Humphrey, Katie Gutierrez, Liz Cunningham, Kinslee Newell and Sienna Lummus all scored one goal.

Ava Briggs and Arely Maldonado both had two assists. Willeford, Gutierrez, Annie Humphrey, Kinslee Newell and Carly Lang all had one assist.

HAYS - Hays High School held their annual athletic and academic recognition night on Monday at HHS. Carly Lang was named the Jack Roberts Female Outstanding Athlete. Keamonie Archie and Kyreese Groen were both honored as Swim, Carpenter, Smith Outstanding Male Athletes.

Lang, Archie, Groen named HHS outstanding athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — MJ Melendez homered and drove in four runs, Nick Pratto had a three-run double during an eight-run sixth inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 12-5 on Monday night.

Melendez hit a 431-foot, two-run shot in the fourth against Dylan Cease and then had a two-run single in the sixth as the Royals turned a 4-4 game into a rout. Kansas City had its highest-scoring game this season and won consecutive home games for the first time since winning four straight at Kauffman Stadium last Sept. 20-23.

“I was saying it early when we weren't scoring runs,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “The process was great the whole time. I'm happy for the guys that they're having that success, but I'm more happy they haven't changed their work or thought process.

"I'm really happy for them, because we've struggled to win games. It takes belief that you can do it.”

Jose Cuas (2-0) relieved Zack Greinke with two out in the sixth and retired the only batter he faced, then watched as Kansas City's offense handed him the victory.

The Royals are averaging nearly 7 1/2 runs per game in May.

“Balls are starting to fall,” Melendez said. “Earlier this season we had some games where we hit the ball really hard, just right at people. You can see how it affects the whole game.”

Cease (2-2) gave up seven runs on nine hits in five-plus innings as his ERA rose from 4.58 to 5.58. The right-hander had a 2.20 ERA in 32 starts last season, when he finished second in AL Cy Young Award voting.

“Just got to keep feeling the process,” Cease said. “The results are disappointing. Honestly, today was better than the last couple of starts. I was throwing in the zone much better. Just working through some things right now but I think it’s close. Just got to keep going.”

Gavin Sheets homered for the White Sox, a 423-foot drive to center off Greinke in the sixth that tied the game at 4-4. Andrew Vaughn had a two-run double for Chicago in the third that made it 3-1.

Jackie Bradley Jr. had a two-run double in the sixth for the Royals and finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

“It feels good, any way you can help the team,” Bradley said. “I've still got a lot to improve on.”

Cease gave up a single, a hit batter and a walk to start the sixth. Reliever Aaron Bummer allowed an RBI single by Michael Massey, followed by Bradley's double. After two outs and a walk, Melendez came through with his big hit to chase Bummer. Jimmy Lambert came on, issued a walk and gave up Pratto's bases-clearing double.

“One quality at-bat after the other,” Quatraro said. “Massey got the big hit to start it and Jackie extended it.”

Royals: Placed LHP Ryan Yarbrough on the 15-day injured list with broken bones in his face after he took a 106-mph line drive off the bat of Oakland's Ryan Yoda on Sunday. Quatraro said Yarbrough had three non-displaced fractures in different spots around his right eye. Yarbrough never lost consciousness and was responding well to treatment. He was released from the hospital Monday night and will have further tests on Tuesday. ... Recalled RHP Jose Cuas from Triple-A Omaha. ... Acquired RHP James McArthur from the Phillies for minor league INF Junior Marin. McArthur was assigned to Omaha.

White Sox 3B Yoan Moncada may rejoin the team during this series, but it will more likely be when Chicago returns home to host Houston on Friday. Moncada, who has been on the 10-day IL with back tightness, is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte.

Royals INF Nicky Lopez resumed light activity after going on the 10-day IL for an appendectomy on May 2. ... LHP Daniel Lynch threw 3 1/3 innings in a rehab start with Omaha on Sunday. He is scheduled to make one more rehab start.

The teams continue their four-game series on Tuesday night with Chicago's Lucas Giolito (1-2, 3.67 ERA) opposing Kansas City's Jordan Lyles (0-5, 6.69).

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Oakland Athletics 5-1 on Sunday to avoid being swept in the series between teams with the worst records in the major leagues.

Kansas City (9-26) lost two of three to the A's (8-27) and dropped to 1-10 in series this season.

Perez went 3 for 4 with a 462-foot home run over the left-field fountains and scored three times. Maikel Garcia scored Perez with an RBI single, giving the Royals a 2-1 lead in the fourth.

“I hit the ball pretty good, but it counts as a homer no matter how far you hit it," Perez said. "...We have to do this more consistently and it was a great win today. We will try to come in tomorrow and do the same thing.”

Nick Pratto hit a two-run double in the eighth to highlight a three-run inning.

Ryan Yarbrough (1-4) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed one run on three hits with two strikeouts and a hit batter. Yarbrough was removed from the game in the sixth after getting hit in the face by a liner that was 106.2 mph off the bat of Ryan Noda. Yarbrough was able to walk off the field with the assistance of trainers.

“Your heart drops in those moments, it is one of the worst things you can see on the field," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. "Luckily, when we got out there, (Yarbarough) was aware of what was going on. He is going to get more tests. As far as his outing until that point, that was just what we are used to seeing from him.”

Royals relievers Carlos Hernandez, Aroldis Chapman and Scott Barlow each tossed scoreless outings.

Mason Miller (0-2) gave up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a hit batter in six innings of work.

(Miller) is building momentum and I think each start he is just getting better and better," Oakland manager Mark Kotsay said. “Veteran Salvador (Perez) got him early in the game and seemed to see him pretty well, but was probably the only guy in the lineup really. Overall, good performance.”

Ramón Laureano broke an 0-for-10 stretch with an RBI single in the fourth. Esteury Ruiz extended his hitting streak to nine games in a 1-for-4 afternoon.

Prior to first-pitch, there was a moment of silence remembering Vida Blue, who died Saturday at the age of 73. Blue was drafted by the then Kansas City Athletics in 1967 and debuted for the A’s in 1969, shortly after the move to Oakland. Blue won an AL MVP, and Cy Young Award and was a three-time World Series champion in Oakland. He also played for the Royals from 1982-83.

Royals: RHP Max Castillo was recalled from Triple-A Omaha. RHP Jonathan Heasley was optioned in the corresponding move.

Royals: LHP Daniel Lynch (left rotator cuff strain) was expected to make a rehab start in Triple-A on Sunday. Lynch was placed on the 15-day injured list on March 30.

⚾Perez homers, Royals avoid sweep in 5-1 win over A's

FHSU Athletics JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Fort Hays State track and field
teams had another banner day on the final day of the 2023 MIAA Outdoor
Championships Sunday (May 7), picking up three more conference championships,
nine All-MIAA honors, 11 national qualifying marks and two school records.

For the week, the Tigers had five individual event
conference champions (three men, two women), their highest total since 2017, 14
All-MIAA honorees (nine women, five men), their highest total since 2008, and
26 national qualifying performances (16 women, 10 men).

The Tiger women recorded their best-ever finish since
joining the MIAA in the 2006-07 season, placing third with 108 points. The team
point total was 20 points more than their previous MIAA-best.

The Tiger men racked up 79.5 points, their best point total
in five years, to finish in sixth place, just 3.5 back of fourth place.

Lyric Holman climbed to the top of the MIAA podium for the
fifth time in her career after winning the 200m dash finals with a time of
23.82. It was a wind-legal lifetime best for the Junction City, Kan. native
that improved her season-best by 0.16 seconds. The senior also finished fifth
in the 100m dash with a season-best time of 11.45 that ranks 10th in NCAA
Division II this season.

After breaking the school record with a time of 10.23 in the
100m dash prelims, Philip Landrum duplicated that effort in the finals on
Sunday to finish in first place by a full tenth of a second. It was Landrum's
fourth conference championship, including two relay titles and a pair of
individual championships.

Regan Hodsden continued her impressive sophomore season for
the Tigers, earning her fifth All-MIAA medal of the year after winning the
5,000m run with a time of 17:54.48. The Mitchell, Neb. native was All-MIAA,
All-Region and All-American in cross country and earned a pair of All-MIAA
medals both indoors and outdoors. Jaycee Vath was sixth in the 5K with a time
of 18:17.42, contributing six team points.

Landrum capped off the weekend alongside Hayden Albright,
Ethan Lang and Nolan Churchman on the 4x400m relay team that finished second
with a school-record time of 3:10.52. The quartet previously won the indoor
4x400m title before climbing onto the All-MIAA podium for the second time this
year on Sunday.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Holman, Reba Mader, Taylor
Savolt and Mattie Rossi also broke the school record en route to an All-MIAA
finish. The Tigers crossed the line in 3:44.72, 0.4 seconds ahead of the
previous school record.

Earlier in the day Savolt and Rossi both finished on the
All-MIAA podium in the 400m hurdles. Savolt ran a lifetime best 59.45 to finish
second, climbing into sixth on the NCAA Division II national performance list
this season, while Rossi was just behind in third with a time of 59.55. Chloe
Stanley was sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.51, giving the Tigers
17 team points from the single race. Rossi earlier finished fifth in the 100m
hurdles with a time of 14.09.

Emily Salmans earned her third All-MIAA medal with a
second-place finish in the 1,500m run, completing the race in 4:38.77. Faith
Little was sixth in the same race with a time of 4:40.56, earning three team
points and etching her name in seventh on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Salmans
later finished sixth in the 800m run finals with a time of 2:17.25.

Ethan Lang is now the owner of 12 All-MIAA awards after
finishing third in the 800m run finals with a time of 1:53.00. Aaron Mangan
(1:55.11) was fifth in that race and Trever Medina (1:56.35) was sixth, giving
the Tigers 13 team points from one middle distance race. Medina also
contributed five team points in the 1,500m run via a fourth-place finish
(3:49.76).

in the 100m dash with a season-best time of 11.45 that ranks 10th in NCAA
Division II this season.After breaking the school record with a time of 10.23 in the
100m dash prelims, Philip Landrum duplicated that effort in the finals on
Sunday to finish in first place by a full tenth of a second. It was Landrum's
fourth conference championship, including two relay titles and a pair of
individual championships.Regan Hodsden continued her impressive sophomore season for
the Tigers, earning her fifth All-MIAA medal of the year after winning the
5,000m run with a time of 17:54.48. The Mitchell, Neb. native was All-MIAA,
All-Region and All-American in cross country and earned a pair of All-MIAA
medals both indoors and outdoors. Jaycee Vath was sixth in the 5K with a time
of 18:17.42, contributing six team points.Landrum capped off the weekend alongside Hayden Albright,
Ethan Lang and Nolan Churchman on the 4x400m relay team that finished second
with a school-record time of 3:10.52. The quartet previously won the indoor
4x400m title before climbing onto the All-MIAA podium for the second time this
year on Sunday.The women's 4x400m relay team of Holman, Reba Mader, Taylor
Savolt and Mattie Rossi also broke the school record en route to an All-MIAA
finish. The Tigers crossed the line in 3:44.72, 0.4 seconds ahead of the
previous school record.Earlier in the day Savolt and Rossi both finished on the
All-MIAA podium in the 400m hurdles. Savolt ran a lifetime best 59.45 to finish
second, climbing into sixth on the NCAA Division II national performance list
this season, while Rossi was just behind in third with a time of 59.55. Chloe
Stanley was sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.51, giving the Tigers
17 team points from the single race. Rossi earlier finished fifth in the 100m
hurdles with a time of 14.09.Emily Salmans earned her third All-MIAA medal with a
second-place finish in the 1,500m run, completing the race in 4:38.77. Faith
Little was sixth in the same race with a time of 4:40.56, earning three team
points and etching her name in seventh on the FHSU DII era performance chart. Salmans
later finished sixth in the 800m run finals with a time of 2:17.25.Ethan Lang is now the owner of 12 All-MIAA awards after
finishing third in the 800m run finals with a time of 1:53.00. Aaron Mangan
(1:55.11) was fifth in that race and Trever Medina (1:56.35) was sixth, giving
the Tigers 13 team points from one middle distance race. Medina also
contributed five team points in the 1,500m run via a fourth-place finish
(3:49.76).Albright finished fourth in the 400m dash finals after
crossing the line in 47.91, good for five team points. He also teamed up with
Landrum, Kenny Fritsch and Toby Wahlmeier to run the 4x100m relay in 40.83,
good for fifth place and four more team points.The women's 4x100m relay team of Jasey Downing, Kinley
Brown, Tori Poe and Holman opened the day with a time of 46.67, good for fifth
place and four team points.Two Tigers scored team points in field events on Sunday,
including Jessica Saunders finishing fifth in the discus throw with a top toss
of 134-3 and Dayton Williams placing seventh in the high jump after a clearance
of the bar at 6-9.The Tigers will return to action next Saturday (May 13) at
the Loper Twilight in Kearney, Neb. with one last chance to improve their
standing on the national qualifying list. The 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships
