ANDOVER – The Hays High softball team saw their nine-game win-streak snapped Tuesday. The Indians lost 3-1 to Andover Central then had their seventh inning rally fall short in an 11-9 setback to Salina South.
Hays is now 13-5. They close the regular season at home Friday with a split doubleheader with Newton and Manhattan at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.
Game 1: Andover Central 3, Hays 1
The Jaguars scored two in the bottom of the third to take the lead then added
an insurance run in the fourth.
The Indians scored their line run in the top of the first. Aubree Thomas led off the game with a double then scored on Riley Dreher’s one-out double.
Aubree Thomas doubled in the third for the Indians only other hit in the game.
Thomas went the distance in the circle, allowing two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Game 2: Salina South 11, Hays 9
The Cougars
built a 7-0 lead and were up 10-2 before the Indians mounted a comeback with
two in the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh.
Aubree Thomas started the comeback with a two-run double in the sixth. She added a grand slam with two outs in the seventh. Dezerae Schmidt followed with a single but a groundout ended the game.
Thomas finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Schmidt added three hits. Ashlun Zimmer drove in two runs.
Riley Dreher allowed six runs (two earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks over two innings and took the loss. Thomas pitched the final five innings and allowed five runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
