Lang, Archie, Groen named HHS outstanding athletes

HAYS - Hays High School held their annual athletic and academic recognition night on Monday at HHS. Carly Lang was named the Jack Roberts Female Outstanding Athlete. Keamonie Archie and Kyreese Groen were both honored as Swim, Carpenter, Smith Outstanding Male Athletes.

Below are a list of the some of the award winners.

Jack Roberts Outstanding Female Athlete: Carly Lang

The Jack Roberts Female Outstanding Athlete Award, given to this year’s most outstanding female athlete, is named in honor of Jack Roberts who was a principal at Hays High. Mr. Roberts was a very strong advocate of athletics for young women and did very much to advance and promote this cause.

Swim, Carpenter, Smith Memorial Award: Keamonie Archie, Kyreese Groen

The Swim, Carpenter, Smith Memorial Award, given to this year’s most outstanding male athlete. The Swim, Carpenter, Smith Memorial Trophy for outstanding male athlete is named after three Hays High Students that were killed in a car accident during their sophomore year.

USD #489: Vryl Brown

The Debbie Brungardt Fan of the Year Award is named in honor of a former HHS student who lived her life with a physical disability but attended nearly every event that involved the Hays High Indians - always there to support our student athletes. Selected by the HHS coaches, the Debbie Brungardt Fan of the Year Award is presented to an adult community fan, a student fan, and a USD 489 Faculty/Staff fan of the year.
