HAYS – The TMP-Marian softball team dropped the final two games of the regular season Tuesday, losing 9-6 and 14-4 to Great Bend at the Monarch Softball Complex. Brooke Koeningsman homered in both games and Hannah Garcia had four hits on the day.
The Monarchs are 13-7 on the season and will be the three-seed in next week’s Ellis 2-1A regional in Ellis. The official brackets will be released from KSHSAA on Wednesday.
Game 1: Great Bend 9, TMP-Marian 6
The Monarchs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-3 lead but
the Panthers answered with six on the top of the seventh.
TMP used two walks and a single to load the bases in the sixth. Sophie Allen gave the Monarchs the lead with a two-run double center. Maddie Augustine scored on a passed ball then Halle Dreiling drove in Allen with double to left.
The Panthers homered to start the seventh then had five straight singles with one out to retake the lead.
Brooke Koeningsman homered and drove in two runs. Sophie Allen had two hits and also drove in two runs.
Maddie Augustine went the distance in the circle and took the loss. She allowed nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits with one strikeout and four walks and a strikeout.
Game 2: Great Bend 14, TMP-Marian 4
The Panthers
scored three in the second and third to build a 6-0 lead. After TMP plated two
in the third, Great Bend answered with two in top of the fourth. They put the
game away with four in the sixth and two in the seventh.
The Monarchs committed six errors in the game which resulted in nine unearned runs.
Hannah Garcia was a home run away from hitting for the cycle and had three of TMP’s nine hits. Jaci VonLintel added two hits. Brooke Koeningsman had a two-run home run.
Maddie Augustine allowed all 14 runs (five earned) on 11 hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
