JoAnn Marie Schmidt, 84, Hays, died Monday, July 19, 2021, at Via Christi Village.

She was born September 19, 1936, in 
Hays, the daughter of Fidelis and Josephine (Huser) Berens.&nbsp; On November
 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to Melvin “Joe” Schmidt at St. 
Ann’s Church in Zurich.&nbsp; They celebrated 63 years of marriage.&nbsp; JoAnn 
was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy High School in Wichita in 1954 
and St. Anthony School of Nursing in Hays.&nbsp; She was a Registered Nurse 
at St. Anthony Hospital and St. John Nursing Home.&nbsp; JoAnn was a member 
of St. Catherine Catholic Church and the St. Catherine Christian 
Mothers.&nbsp; She enjoyed KU basketball, Kansas City Royals baseball, puzzle
 books, variety shows, spending time with her family, and was a great 
cook.

Survivors include her husband: Melvin 
“Joe” of Hays, four sons: Steve Schmidt and wife Jean of Hays, Stan 
Schmidt and wife Teri of Overland Park, Scott Schmidt and wife Lori of 
Hays, and Stuart Schmidt and wife Barbara of Olathe, three daughters:

 Fr. Earl Befort officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Catherine 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday at 
Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on
 Friday at the church.&nbsp; A St. Catherine Christian Mothers rosary will be

Geraldine "Geri" Eva (Meis) Henning, 74, passed away July 17, 2021. She was born August 20, 1946 in Russell, KS the daughter of Servillian "Bill" and Irene (Weigel) Meis. Geri married Richard Henning in 1982, and they celebrated 38 years of marriage. Geri worked at Kinton's Restaurant, American Legion Club for many years and the cafeteria at Haskins School until her retirement. She had a loving generous spirit, when Geri made a friend it was a friend forever. Geri loved traveling and camping with Richard, casinos, gardening, dancing and Elvis Music. Her memberships included Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She is survived by her husband, Richard; two brothers, Fr. Peter Meis O.F.M.  Wayne Stephenson, 92, of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, died July 12, 2021. 
He was born April 13, 1929, Christ Hospital, Topeka, Kansas, to Lee 
Raymond and Ruby Alta Stephenson. He has been a resident of Eureka 
Springs for the past fifteen years, after moving from Greensburg, 
Kansas, where he was high school principal, then superintendent of 
schools from 1966 to 1976. He later retired back to Greensburg after 
twenty years in the lodging business, and became manager of the Big 
Well. Richard was a member and lay speaker of the Greensburg United 
Methodist Church. He was president of the Pratt Gideon Camp, Rotary, 
Lions, and Chamber of Commerce. He served in the United States Navy from
 1951-1955. He was a 1947 graduate of Alexander High School and a 
graduate of Fort Hays State University (B.S. in 1957) and M.S. in 
Educational Administration in 1961. He was a teacher/administrator in 
four Kansas school districts from 1957 to 1976. He married 
Marjorie Ann Renz in 1951 in the Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center, 
Kansas. They were happily married for 69 years. Marjorie preceded him in
 death on February 17, 2020. Also deceased: Richard’s parents and 
stepfather (Henry Bott) and one grandson (Abe Foncannon). Survivors 
include: daughters Ellen Stephenson and Jody Stephenson, son-in-law Ron 
Lutz, son Jay Stephenson, all of Eureka Springs; grandson Ray (Ruth) 
Stephenson of Manhattan, Kansas; sister Vera Mae (Ron) Williams of

Laura E. Shuster, age 85, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 
her brother John’s home in Horace, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on June 25, 
1936, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of George &amp; Minnie Archer
 Grubb.&nbsp; A resident of Horace, Kansas since June 2, 2021, moving from 
Lindale, Texas, she was a nurse.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Harmony, Texas, 
and helped complete 100 projects through the Sowers Ministry (Servants 
On Wheels Ever Ready).

On September 13, 1958, she married Edward E. Shuster in Williamsburg, Virginia.&nbsp; He survives.

Survivors include her Husband - Edward E. Shuster of Horace, Kansas, 
One Son - LeRoy E. Shuster of Belmopan, Belize, Two Daughters - Karis 
Holman of Lake Tahoe, California, Jill Hansen of Littleton, Colorado, 
One Foster Son - Joseph Birch of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Three Brothers -
 John &amp; Edna Grubb of Tribune, Kansas, Harold &amp; Shirley Grubb of
 Tribune, Kansas, Patrick &amp; Patricia Grubb of Tribune, Six 
Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, and One Brother &amp; 
Sister In Law - Jerry &amp; Juanita Grubb &amp; One Foster Daughter - 
Theresa Birch.

Laura E. Shuster

George "Rusty" R. Addleman, 82, of Oberlin, was born on November 12, 
1938, to Ted and Neva (Russell) Addleman at Benton Memorial Hospital, 
Oberlin KS. He passed July 12, 2021 at Decatur Health Systems, Oberlin 
KS. Rusty attended Oberlin Grade School and graduated from Decatur 
Community High School in 1956. 
 He was a member of the Oberlin undefeated football team winning the 
Northwest Kansas League Title in 1955 against Norton KS. He, as well as
 other team winners, received post-season honors. He was named to The 
Wichita Eagle’s All State Team and The Eagle All Western Division Team, 
and nominated by area coaches to the Northwest Kansas All League Team.
 He attended College of Emporia, Emporia, KS, a small Presbyterian 
school, where his father and siblings had attended. He received a 
bachelor’s degree in business administration and sciences. While at C. 
of E., he played on the football team, and helped lead the “Presbies” to
 the 1959 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference football championship. 
He was named to the First Team of the National Association of 
Intercollegiate Athletics All-American Football team and Williamson 
National Football Rating System. In the Mineral Water Bowl which 
followed, he scored two of the three touch downs, and kicked all three

Bart Starr. His coach was the infamous Vince Lombardi who was just 
beginning his coaching career with the Green Bay Packers. Rusty felt 
honored to be coached by him. 
 He received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 1963 from the 
University of Kansas. That fall he was commissioned as a second 
lieutenant in the Air Force Medical Service Corps. He attended 
Officer’s Training School in Montgomery AL. 
 In January of 1964, his first AF tour was Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage 
AK as a business officer of a 200-bed hospital for 3 ½ years. In March,
 1964, the Alaskan Earthquake occurred. 
 In the fall of 1967, Rusty attended the University of Minnesota 
(Minneapolis) and received a Master of Hospital Administration degree 
through the Air Force. He did his internship at Travis AFB, CA. and 
graduated in1969.
 The following four years he was in hospital administration at ENT AFB, Colorado Springs, Lowry AFB, CO; and Osan AFB, Korea. 
 In 1972, he resigned from Air Force with the rank of captain. He 
accepted an administrative position in the HURA program in Nashville, TN
 until 1976.
 At that time, he returned to Oberlin to administer a Health 
Underserved Rural Areas Grant to help small towns survive, recruit 
doctors, and improve the health care in rural communities. During this 
time, he purchased the drug store from his dad and hired a pharmacist, 
and later became a full-time pharmacist in 1990 retiring in 2009. The 
Addleman Drug Store was a family business for 103 years. 
 Four generations of Addleman men have served Decatur County for the
 last 142 years. (Nathan, Dott, Ted, and George (Rusty)—from county 
clerk to merchant to two generations of pharmacists. Rusty continued 
the tradition of “service first” to the community. The Oberlin 
community has always had a special place in his heart and he wanted it 
to be progressive. He contributed where needed on numerous boards, 
committees, such as: hospital board, city council, Rotary, Chamber of 
Commerce, golf course, Church Council, American Legion, and fund raising
 for various organizations, etc. He made sure that Oberlin had fireworks
 for 4th of July. He especially had a big heart for children and 
babies.
 Rusty’s greatest joy was his family although golf, K-U Jayhawks and 
watching sports were competitive. He was proud of his children and 
grandchildren. PaPa was always their number one supporter and enjoyed 
watching all of their activities. His absence will leave a vast void.
 Rusty and Sharon Pollnow were married on August 11, 1963, in 
Oberlin, KS. To this union three children were born: Michelle Renee’ 
Rush; Shannon Ree’ Addleman and Chad Theodore Addleman.
 Rusty is survived by his wife, Sharon Addleman, three children, 
Michelle (Kevin) Rush, Shannon Addleman, and Chad (Noel) Addleman and 
six grandchildren, Gavin and Gannon Rush, Brynna and Bryant 
Addleman-Gillund, Kate and Jack Addleman, sister, Ruth Ingold, Lenexa KS
 as well as extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his 
parents, brother, Alan, and brother-in-law, Robert Ingold.

 </figure>George "Rusty" R. Addleman, 82, of Oberlin, was born on November 12, 
1938, to Ted and Neva (Russell) Addleman at Benton Memorial Hospital, 
Oberlin KS. He passed July 12, 2021 at Decatur Health Systems, Oberlin 
KS. Rusty attended Oberlin Grade School and graduated from Decatur 
Community High School in 1956. 
 He was a member of the Oberlin undefeated football team winning the 
Northwest Kansas League Title in 1955 against Norton KS. He, as well as
 other team winners, received post-season honors. He was named to The 
Wichita Eagle’s All State Team and The Eagle All Western Division Team, 
and nominated by area coaches to the Northwest Kansas All League Team.
 He attended College of Emporia, Emporia, KS, a small Presbyterian 
school, where his father and siblings had attended. He received a 
bachelor’s degree in business administration and sciences. While at C. 
of E., he played on the football team, and helped lead the “Presbies” to
 the 1959 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference football championship. 
He was named to the First Team of the National Association of 
Intercollegiate Athletics All-American Football team and Williamson 
National Football Rating System. In the Mineral Water Bowl which 
followed, he scored two of the three touch downs, and kicked all three

Julia Ann (Hockersmith) Arnberger, age 75, of Winona, KS, passed away at
 the Logan County Senior Living, in Oakley, KS, on Saturday, July 17, 
2021. 
Julie was born December 17, 1945, in Quinter, KS, to Willis Gene and 
Elta Louise (Brooks) Hockersmith. She grew up in the Oakley area and 
graduated from Oakley High School in 1963. Julie was a cheerleader all 
through school. After high school she studied cosmetology at the Mile 
High Beauty School, in Denver, CO and was a hair stylist for most of her
 life. Julie also worked as an administrative secretary at the State of 
Arizona for a while. 
Julie married Jule Caron on February 14, 1968, in Oakley. The couple had
 two boys, Todd and Tory. After their separations, she married the late 
Sam Kite. 
Julie had dated Bruce Jerome Arnberger, of Winona, while they were in 
high school. However, their lives took them in different directions 
after graduation. In 2001, thanks to the internet, they were reunited. 
Julie’s son Tory recalls the day they finally reconnected: it was as if 
no time had gone by and they were holding hands with stars in their 
eyes, like teenagers. The couple was married on August 30, 2003, in 
Albany, Oregon. Bruce worked in the lumber business in Oregon for many 
years. After their marriage, the couple moved back to Winona, KS, to 
retire. Julie was a quilter and made many beautiful quilts during her 
lifetime. 
She is survived by her husband Bruce Jerome Arnberger; sons, Tory 
(Shawna) Caron, of Ft. Mojave, AZ and Todd (Joy) Caron, of Tucson, AZ; 
grandchildren, Corey, Sean and CJ; brothers, Lanny Hockersmith, and 
Terry (Betty) Hockersmith; sisters, Kathy Hockersmith VanKirk and Debbie
 (Russell) Hockersmith Hall. 
Julie was preceded in death by her father Willis; her mother Elta 
Louise; brother Roger; sister Connie; brother-in-law Darryl and 
sisters-in-law, Louise and Marilyn.

born April 23, 1941 in Logan, Kansas the son of Harold &amp; Violet 
(Lesty) Seeger. 
 A long time resident of Lakin, Larry was an avid fisherman and 
hunter. In 1960 he married Maudie Goff in Hutchinson, Kansas. Larry 
worked for more than fifty years with his brother and son-in-law as a 
tree trimmer. He also owned and operated his own auto mechanic and gas 
station. 
 Survivors include four children Tammy Altman of Leoti, Kansas, 
Lance Seeger of Morland, Kansas, Jill &amp; husband Jerry Stevenson of 
Lakin, Kansas, and Heather &amp; husband Anthony Beltran of Great Bend, 
Kansas; a sister Dona &amp; husband Willie Olson of LaJunta, Colorado; 
and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great 
great-grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his wife Maudie who 
died on November 20, 2019. He is also preceded in death by his parents;
 seven brothers Virgil, Harold, Raymond, Cleo, Jessie, Delvin, &amp;

Sister Marie Antoinette Klein, 93, died July 17, 2021, in the 
Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born August 
20, 1927, in Dodge City, Kan., the daughter of Anthony and Mary Hoffman 
Klein.&nbsp; She entered the Dominican Sisters Community in 1944 and 
pronounced her vows in 1946.&nbsp; 

Sister Marie Antoinette ministered as a 
music educator, serving as a piano teacher and organist from 1946-2017.&nbsp;
 She retired at the motherhouse in Great Bend, but even then she 
continued to serve as organist for many years.&nbsp; Sister Marie Antoinette 
was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, both of whom were 
Dominican Sisters of Peace.&nbsp; She is survived by several cousins as well 
as the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 
2021.&nbsp; A vigil Service will be held Monday, July 19, at 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Both 
will take place at the Sisters’ Convent.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Sisters’
 Resurrection Cemetery, Great Bend.

Julia A. Arnberger (Hockersmith)

Lila Ann (Bell) Dietz passed away on July 15, 2021, at the Trego County -
 Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in WaKeeney, KS at the age of 
86. She was born on July 13, 1935,&nbsp; to Forrest and Mary Louise (Manis) 
Bell in El Dorado, KS. Lila married Donald “Don” Dietz on June 2, 1957,&nbsp; in Claflin, KS. They were blessed with three sons, Jeff, Van and Scott.
 Lila grew up in Claflin, KS and graduated from Claflin High School 
with the Class of 1953. She went on to complete two years of college at 
Emporia State University Teachers College where she obtained her 
teaching certificate. Lila then moved to WaKeeney in 1955 and taught one
 year before moving to teach one year at Pratt, KS. After she and Don 
were married, they made their home in WaKeeney where they became owners 
of the Dietz Market which later became Dietz IGA in 1970. When they sold
 the business Lila then was a Bank Teller at First National Bank and 
later a bookkeeper at WaKeeney Manor until she retired in 1995. Lila was
 a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in WaKeeney.
 Lila loved spending time at her parent’s cabin at Cedar Bluff Lake 
where she enjoyed fishing from the pontoon boat. She and the boys would 
often pack up a cooler of sandwiches and go fishing on the Big Creek and
 Saline Rivers. She also enjoyed needlepoint, reading, collecting 
antiques, puzzles, and playing Bridge.
 Lila is survived by her sons Jeff and wife Joyce Dietz of Newton, KS
 and Scott and wife Jana Dietz of Wichita, KS; three grandchildren, Lynn
 Dietz, April (Alex) Beevers, and Taylor Dietz (fiancé Alexis); and two 
great-grandchildren, Riley and Weston.
 She joins in heaven her parents, Forrest and Mary Louise; husband, Don Dietz; and son Van Dietz.
 A Graveside Service will be held at the WaKeeney City Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 23, 2021.

Larry W. Griffin, 78, passed away on July 14, 2021, at his home in 
Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on February 2, 1943, in Hutchinson, 
Kansas, the son of Joe and Ethelyn (Anderson) Griffin.

Larry was a District Storekeeper for the State Department of 
Transportation. He married Cheryl Ann Stecklein on April 24, 1965, in 
Ness City. She died on November 23, 2013.

Survivors include a son, Darrin (Shelley) Griffin of Manhattan; a 
brother, Bob Griffin of Hutchinson; and 2 grandsons, Lane and Wyatt 
Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Cheryl Ann 
Griffin.

Graveside service will be on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Ness City.

Clint Alan Froelich, 39, Hays, Kansas, 
died Sunday, April 12, 2020, with his wife holding his hand at HaysMed.&nbsp;
 At 2:45 am on that Easter morning, he was freed of all his earthly 
pains and joined his heavenly Father away from all earthly burdens.

He was born August 16, 1980, the son of
 Morris Alan and Marie Kay (Dreiling) Froelich in Hays.&nbsp; Growing up, 
Clint was a very loving, happy, energetic, and ornery little boy.&nbsp; Clint
 attended Hays High School and graduated in May 1999.&nbsp; He was a very 
hardworking man of many talents, but most of all he loved construction.&nbsp;
 He worked for Bieker Construction for seven years before starting with 
Brackney Construction where he continued for the next 14 years.&nbsp; Clint 
was never one to turn down a person in need of help and would help 
friends and family many nights and weekends.&nbsp; He was a Kansas City 
Chiefs fan and enjoyed fishing, shooting, gardening, and baking.&nbsp; He 
would bake for days in preparation for ski trips with his family.&nbsp; He 
loved spending time with his daughters. &nbsp;&nbsp;

In March of 1998, as a junior in high 
school, he met his soulmate and future wife Savanna Tibbetts.&nbsp; Clint and
 Savanna dated long distance until she graduated from high school in 
2001.&nbsp; In 2003, the happy couple welcomed their first daughter Marissa 
to the world, and Clint’s light never shown brighter.&nbsp; On September 16, 
2006 Clint and Savanna were united in marriage in Hays at St. Nicholas 
of Myra Catholic Church where Clint had been a member since the church 
was built.&nbsp; Clint loved being a father, and the couple welcomed three 
more children to their family.&nbsp; Afton was welcomed in October of 2007, 
Joselin was welcomed in July of 2009, and after many years of trying and
 being devastated by the loss of their only son Talon in August of 2014 
and a daughter Piper in December of 2015, their daughter Victoria joined
 the party in October of 2017.

When Victoria was only six months old, 
Clint was taken to HaysMed for appendicitis.&nbsp; Five days after the 
appendectomy Clint was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive 
form of cancer.&nbsp; Clint took a breath and vowed to give every ounce of 
fight within him to conquer this disease.&nbsp; Over the next 23 months Clint
 endured 29 procedures, 83 days away from his beloved children, three 
different hospitals, two different states, 13 doctors, numerous nurses 
and many missed family holidays and celebrations.&nbsp; Clint NEVER gave up. 
&nbsp;Each and every day he woke up he put a smile on his face, and kept life
 as normal as possible for his girls.

Clint is survived by his wife; Savanna,
 and four daughters; Marissa, Afton, Joselin, and Victoria, all of 
Beaver, OK, his parents; Morris and Marie Froelich of Hays, KS, a 
sister; Jill Russell and husband Bill, and two nieces; Kaeleah and Brynn
 Russell, all of Papillion, NE, his grandparents; Morris and MaryAnn 
Froelich of Gorham, KS and Marvin and Kathleen Dreiling of Hays, KS, his
 father-in-law; Russell Tibbetts of Beaver, OK and a host of aunts,

Tauscher Ulysses Bretz, 98, resident of Wallace County Community Care 
Center died July 15, 2021, at Goodland Regional Medical Center in 
Goodland, KS. He was a life-long farmer and rancher in rural Wallace, 
KS. He was born April 27, 1923, to Roy Allen and Mary (Tauscher) Bretz 
south of Winona at his grandparent’s home. He was the oldest of six 
children. 
On June 16, 1948, Tauscher married Opal Mae Martin in Oakley, KS. Two 
sons were born to this union, Richard and Mike. They were married for 63
 years before Opal’s death in 2012. 
Tauscher loved to run a tractor throughout his life. His passion was 
moving dirt. He built several dams and water diversions on his property 
during the years. In later years he would pick rocks and junk off the 
road to occupy his time and keep from getting flat tires. He was proud 
of the fact that his grandson is the 5th generation to ranch and farm on
 the “home place.” 
Tauscher was a member of the Wallace Mason Lodge, for 74 years. He also 
served on the McAllaster Township Board, Logan County Conservation 
District Board, the Great Plains Electric Cooperative Board and was a 
member of the Winona United Methodist Church. 
Preceding him in death was his wife Opal; his parents; one brother, 
Lindy and two sisters, Mary and Roma. Survivors include two sisters, 
Lois Ann and Shirley; two sisters-in-law, Lola and Lillian; sons, 
Richard (Jean) Bretz, of Wallace, KS, and Michael (Roberta) Bretz, of 
Goodland, KS; three grandsons, Blake (Rebekah) Bretz, Aurora, CO, Warren
 (Melissa) Bretz, Sharon Springs, KS and Kaler (Samantha) Bretz, 
Wallace, KS; 7 great-grandchildren, Noah, Harper and Isla, of Aurora, 
CO, Beckett and Canaan, of Sharon Springs, KS and Sadie and Clayton, of

Barbara Ann “Bobbi” Norton passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at her
 home in Plainville at the age of 65. She was born in Plainville on 
October 9, 1955 to William and Esther “Ruth” (Larsen) Brickley. Bobbi 
was united in marriage to Don Norton, the couple was blessed with two 
children: Kim and Thomas, the couple later divorced.
 Bobbi was a lifetime resident of Plainville, she attended Plainville
 High School and graduated with the class of 1973. Following High 
School, she was a homemaker for many years and cherished the many 
memories she made with her children while they were growing up. Outside 
of raising her children she later was co-owner of Norton Tractor Service
 for many years and later honored the Brickley legacy by accepting a job
 in healthcare at the Plainville Rural Hospital later known as Rooks 
County Health Center, in Dietary Management. She furthered her education
 at Barton Community College to earn a degree in this field so she could
 pursue her passion of food, service, and family. She devoted 14 years 
to the Hospital and become well known, and very loved by the patients, 
staff, and the community of Plainville. She later accepted a position at
 RedBud Village Nursing Home in the Dietary Department. Bobbi loved the 
residents and her co-workers, she looked forward to her job everyday and
 the residents and staff looked forward to seeing her.
 Bobbi was passionate about her family and enjoyed being close to her
 children and later her grandchildren. She loved her granddaughters and 
looked forward to their growth in their future careers. Bobbi’s cats and
 dogs were also loved like her children and grandchildren. The family 
was unified through a love of each other, food, and of course the Kansas
 City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. She will be remembered through 
her good works, her caring nature, and fierce patriotism with an 
unforgettable social media presence.
 Bobbi is survived by her children, Kim Brown (Dan Bingle) of 
Plainville, KS and Thomas Norton (Megan Bell) of Plainville, KS; 
brother, Ross (Jan) Brickely of Lexington, NC; grandchildren, Emily

Rhonda Lou Blazek, 73, died July 15, 2021, at her home in Salina, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born November 17, 1947, in Glendale, Cal., the daughter
 of Chester H. and Anna Louise (Wray) Smith.

On May 21, 1966, she married Edward LeRoy Blazek in Dubuque, Kansas. 
They later divorced, and remarried May 21, 1989.&nbsp; He preceded her in 
death on October 14, 2005.

A lifetime resident of Hoisington, Rhonda was a long time Hoisington 
E.M.S. director, also being employed by Essex, Albert Co-op, Fuller 
Brush and the Women’s Recovery Center.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, reading, 
tinkering with computers, and above all, time spent with her 
grandchildren.

She is survived by: a son, Eric Blazek and wife Kristy of Hoisington;
 and a daughter, Chrystie Blazek and husband Rob Teschke of Salina; two 
brothers, Randy Smith of Great Bend, and Ron Smith and wife Christina of
 Hoisington; 10 grandchildren, Austin LaViolette, Nathan LaViolette,

grandchildren.

 and a daughter, Chrystie Blazek and husband Rob Teschke of Salina; two 
brothers, Randy Smith of Great Bend, and Ron Smith and wife Christina of
 Hoisington; 10 grandchildren, Austin LaViolette, Nathan LaViolette, 
Ryan Meade, Shannon Meade, Steven Mickle, Karissa Wagner, Kelsea Wagner,
 Kaleb Blazek, Brady Blazek and Ali Jo Blazek; and 17 great 
grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, Chet and Louise Smith,

George Russell 'Rusty' Addleman

Beth Marie (Williams) Scott passed away on July 15, 2021, at the age of 
89. She was born in Smith Center, KS the daughter of Zelma (Bierman) 
and Roy Williams.
 	Beth grew up and attended school in Smith Center, graduating in 
1950. Soon after graduation, she married Sidner Scott on December 31, 
1951. They recently celebrated their 70th anniversary. To this union,&nbsp; were born two children, Cindy and Waverly.
 	Beth and Sid lived on the family farm in Smith County for several 
years, later moving to Boulder, CO where Beth worked as a loan officer 
and bookkeeper for the Boulder Valley School Credit Union for seven 
years, and office manager and bookkeeper for a law firm for twenty-one 
years. After Beth and Sid retired, they moved back to Smith Center 
where they continued farming for several more years. 
 	Beth was a very devoted and active member of the various churches 
she attended. Singing was her passion. She was a member of Garden Lore
 Club, and enjoyed gathering with close friends. 
 	Beth was also a member of the International Flying Farmers and 
Ranchers Organization where she served as International Duchess for one 
year, flying all over the United States and Canada with her husband in 
their small plane, promoting the organization and encouraging the 
spouses to learn to land the plane. She was one of those spouses. They 
were blessed to enjoy the love of travel earlier in their lives and 
added many pins to their travel map. 
 She was very close to her five grandchildren while they were 
growing up, especially supporting them in all their academic and 
athletic activities. In later years, she was a dedicated grandmother and
 great-grandmother.
 	Preceding her in death was daughter, Cindy (Scott) Brennan and 
husband Terry; son, Waverly Scott and daughter-in-law, Jayne (Rietzke) 
Scott; sister Dona Kirby and her parents.
 	She is survived by her spouse, Sidner Scott of Smith Center, five 
grandchildren: Brooke (Scott) McDowell and husband, Darin of Kensington,
 KS, Kyle Scott and wife, Kelly of Sweeney, Texas, Lucas Scott and wife 
Barbara of Germany, Laura (Brennan) Preston and husband, Tyler, of 
Sandpoint, Idaho, and Bryan Brennan, of Estes Park, CO, four 
great-grandchildren: Brillon and Breckyn McDowell, Kynlee Scott and 
Brennan Preston.

Beth Marie (Williams) Scott

Joe Martin Gillaspie was born November 26, 1931, at his home in Texas County, OK, the 
second of eight children to Nimrod and Eula Pearl Gillaspie.&nbsp; He 
graduated from high school at Elkhart, KS in 1949 and attended 
Southwestern College in Winfield, KS on a football scholarship. He 
graduated with a B.A. in Education in 1953. He later went on to earn his 
M.S. in Education from Fort Hays State College in 1959.

Joe met Juanita Hardy while attending Southwestern College. They were
 married on June 1, 1952, at the Pratt United Methodist Church. They 
celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Growing up on a farm in the 1930’s Joe learned many skills from his 
father and grandfather and had a reputation in the communities he lived 
in of knowing how to fix about anything. He also learned to hunt and 
fish, which he enjoyed throughout his lifetime.

He taught Industrial Arts and coached football and boys’ basketball 
and track at Hugoton, Coats, and Lewis. After earning his MS in 
Education Joe served as Superintendent of Schools at Vesper, Haviland, 
and Deerfield. Wanting to return to his true love of teaching and 
coaching, Joe and Juanita moved to Rozel in 1969 where he taught 
Industrial Arts, and coached both boys’ and girls’ sports for 23 years 
at Pawnee Heights.

Joe’s nickname at Pawnee Heights was “Papa Joe” and many of the 
students from the other schools picked up on the name, also. He coached 
football and boys’ basketball and track. In 1973 he began developing the
 girl’s athletic program at Pawnee Heights and coached volleyball, 
girls’ basketball, and girls’ track. Throughout his coaching career 
teams he coached won league and regional titles in football, volleyball,
 and basketball, many of the boys and girls he coached in track were 
state medal winners, as well. After retiring, Joe refereed volleyball 
for many years with former players.

Besides teaching high school industrial arts, he also taught a very 
popular adult woodworking class for Barton Community College for a 
number of years. Throughout his adult life he used his woodworking 
talents to design and make furniture, toys and other wooden items such 
as lamps, bowls, and jewelry for family and sold items at craft fairs.

Joe was very active in church and Lions Club for many years in all of
 the communities where the family lived, His volunteer work at Pawnee 
Heights after retiring included keeping the clock at football and 
basketball games, serving as judge in Quiz Bowl, and as a starter at 
track meets.&nbsp; In January 2008 he and Juanita were awarded the Master 
Volunteer Award at the league basketball tournament in Dodge City. He 
also served two terms on the Rozel City Council where he helped the city
 secure a federal grant to complete and furnish the newly built Rozel 
Community Building.

Farming in Pratt and Kiowa Counties with his father-in-law started in
 1952. After his father-in-law retired from farming, Joe, his sons, and 
two brothers assisted him until he decided it was time to retire and 
rent out the land in 1997.&nbsp; He also enjoyed hunting pheasant and quail 
with his Brittany Spaniels and fishing whenever he could for many years.
 Fishing became one of his favorite retirement pastimes.

Joe and Juanita moved to Rozel in 1969 and stayed 45 years. Due to 
health reasons they relocated to South Hutchinson, KS where she lived 
out her last few years.

Joe is survived by his children:&nbsp; Jim (Barbara) Gillaspie&nbsp;of 
Hutchinson, KS,&nbsp;Judy Gillaspie of Tulsa, OK,&nbsp;Jeff (Jeanie) Gillaspie&nbsp;of 
Grand Junction, CO;&nbsp;grandsons Joel (Laurie) Gillaspie, Michael 
Gillaspie, Albert (Kritika) McClure, Chad (Lori) Scates; 
great-grandchildren, Emilee Scates and Rumi McClure, two brothers: 
Morris (Letha) Gillaspie of Douglass, Ks&nbsp; and Don&nbsp; Gillaspie of&nbsp; South 
Hutchinson, Three sisters: Virginia Bracken of Burleson, TX, Belva McBee
 of Tyrone, OK and Betty (Larry) Davolt of Keys, OK.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Juanita, brother Robert Gillaspie, sister Wilma Truhler, and his parents.

Services will be at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned, KS on Saturday, July 24, 2021
 at 10:30 a.m. with Inurnment at the Rozel Cemetery, with a community

Joe Martin Gillaspie

Bobby C. Maltby, 93, passed away July 15, 2021, at Great Bend Health 
&amp; Rehabilitation Center. He was born on December 24, 1927, at 
Tonkawa, Okla. to Clyde O. &amp; Minnie E. (Burch) Maltby. He married 
Arbutus Ann Basgall on June 23, 1962, at Loretta, Kan.

A current Great Bend resident, Bobby had previously lived in Midland,
 Tex. and Oklahoma City, Okla. He was an accountant for Atlantic 
Richfield and later BP, until he retired in 1981. Bobby was a member of 
Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a 
veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II and
 the Korean Conflict, and was a very talented guitar, violin and banjo 
player.

Survivors include, his wife Arbutus "Boots" Maltby of Great Bend; and
 numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; and a sister, Donna.

A Rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021, followed
 by Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m., all at St. Rose of Lima 
Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu, MSFS and
 Father Terrance Klein presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend 
Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the United States Navy. 
Memorials have been designated to Prince of Peace Parish, in care of 
Bryant Funeral Home.
