Doris M. Werth of Victoria, age 80, died Sunday, June 20, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Olathe, Kansas. She was born September 20, 1940, in Hays, Kansas, to Servilian and Theresa (Brungardt) Hammerschmidt.&nbsp; She married Kenneth L. “Kenny” Werth on May 28, 1960.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on July 20, 2013.&nbsp;

She was a homemaker and worked 20 years at Travenol Labs. in Hays.&nbsp; She was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis and the St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella both of Victoria.&nbsp; She grew up in Victoria and was a 1958 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; She enjoyed reading, game shows, word puzzles, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Vicky Gonzales, Russell, KS; Judy VonFeldt and husband, Dale, Olathe, KS; five grandchildren, Randa Ehrlich and fiancé Dave Cooksey; Nathaniel Rollett and wife Sarah; Ross Gonzales and fiancé, Harley; Brianna Freeman and husband, Dakota;&nbsp; Bailey VonFeldt; 17 great grandchildren; her brother, Dennis Hammerschmidt and wife, Vicky, Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Julian Gonzales; grandson, Ricky Gonzales; and great grandson, Brody Ehrlich.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 25, 2021, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas with Father Gale Hammerschmidt officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

A vigil service and a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671.

Dorothy Mary Cahoj passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021, at the Good 
Samaritan Home, in Atwood, KS, at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 15 
days. She was born January 4, 1929, in Stratton, NE, to Stanley and 
Albina (Chvatal) Vrbas. 
Dorothy married Louis Cahoj on September 22, 1948. They had three children, Ronald, Collette and LuAnn. 
While she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, 
Dorothy had many other talents, which she shared with others throughout 
her life. She was a wonderful cook. Homemade bread, cookies, candy, and 
pies were always plentiful. She also made the best kolaches ever and 
always had dozens in the freezer for family and friends. Another talent 
of Dorothy’s was making and decorating cakes for weddings, birthdays, 
graduations, and any other occasion a cake was called for. While she 
made many flavors, her well known favorite was poppy seed. She even 
received several wedding cake orders from places as far away as Denver, 
CO. Dorothy also traveled to Tulsa, OK, to make her granddaughter Cami’s
 wedding cake. 
When her daughters Collette and LuAnn were small, Dorothy sewed 
continuously. She made many matching dresses for her daughters and 
herself. She saved all the leftover fabric and made a quilt for each of 
her daughters. Every quilt square portrayed a lady with a hoop skirt 
holding a parasol made from the leftover fabric. She later made quilts 
for her two oldest great grandsons, Kobey and Alec, with each square 
showing a young boy fishing. She once again, used the leftover fabric on
 the shirts and pants. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting also and made doilies 
and beautiful bedspreads. Whether she was sewing, making quilts, 
crocheting, etc., it was always done with perfection. 
In addition to all that, she raised and butchered chickens, always had a
 big garden, and canned all summer long. She milked cows and always 
helped her husband wherever he needed her on the farm. This ranged from 
field work, to driving the truck during wheat harvest, chasing cattle or
 any other farm task imaginable. She cooked big meals for breakfast, 
dinner and supper and always included hired help and friends. Dorothy 
was the model farm wife and always made time for anyone who needed help. 
Through the challenges of losing her husband in March of 2000, then her 
daughter LuAnn in September of 2005 and her son Ron in November of 2011,
 she never lost her faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her 
entrance into Heaven has not ended her ministry on Earth. Dorothy’s 
memory will continue to remind us to “Do unto others as you would have 
them do unto you.” 
Those left to celebrate her life are her daughter Collette Honn; 
granddaughters, Cami, Anastasia, Megan, and Amanda; grandson Heath; 
great grandchildren, Kobey, Alec, Gunner, Gehrig and Lexi; along with 
many extended family, and a multitude of friends, all who will mourn her
 loss, but cherish the many memories she gave them. 
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, at
 St. John’s Catholic Church, Beardsley, KS, with burial in Sts. Cyril 
and Methodius Cemetery, rural Rawlins County. Memorials may be made to

Marvin O. Dreiling, 95, Hays, died Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at HaysMed.

He was born August 6, 1925, on the 
family farm northwest of Victoria, the third of twelve children to 
Alphonse and Sophia (Sander) Dreiling.&nbsp; In 1944, he graduated from 
Victoria High School.&nbsp; He was in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952.&nbsp; On 
February 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Dreiling at 
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp; They were married 67 years.&nbsp; Marvin
 raised Angus cattle and was a farmer.&nbsp; His memberships included: St. 
Joseph Catholic Church, Hays VFW Post #9076, the St. Joseph Third Degree
 Knights of Columbus Council #1325, and the St. Fidelis Fourth Degree 
Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; He served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors 
and the American Soil Conservation Society Board.&nbsp; Most important to 
Marvin were his faith, family, and friendships.&nbsp; He found joy in Sunday 
family drives in the country to look at cattle and wheat and watching 
his grandchildren’s sporting events.&nbsp; He enjoyed coffee with friends and
 never knew a stranger.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of 
Hays, two sons: Doug Dreiling and wife Brenda of Olathe and Duane 
Dreiling and wife Lori of Carl Junction, MO, three daughters: Karen 
Dreiling and husband Randy Boggs of Hays, Kay Fieler and husband Kevin 
of Shawnee, and Kristie Haynes and husband Brian of Hays, two brothers: 
Charlie Dreiling of Victoria and Jim Dreiling of Parker, CO, two 
sisters: Lucy Roth of Wichita and Theresa Ellis of Lafayette, CO, seven 
grandchildren: Jonathan Fieler and wife Brandie, Mallory Bibens and 
husband Ryan, Erika Scoby and husband Luke, Jake Dreiling, Kate 
Dreiling, Jared Haynes, and Josh Haynes, six great grandchildren, and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, two infant sons, four brothers: Elmer, Hubert, Alfred, and Tom 
Dreiling, three sisters: Lorraine Bird, Mary Ellen Dell, and Ruth 
Stephens, and a great grandson: Bentley Scoby.

Marvin O. Dreiling

Lewis Marcell Stephen of Hays, Kansas was born on January 3, 1950, in 
Stockton, Kansas to Lewis Harold Stephen and Glennys Faye (Reed) 
Stephen. They lived on the family farm along Bow Creek in Rooks County. 
He had seven other siblings: Lawrence, Loretta, Lorene, Lucille, LeRoy, 
Lana and Leonard. 
 Lewis attended schools in Stockton, Hoxie, and Colby. He graduated 
from Stockton High School with the class of 1969. Shortly after, he 
married Rhonda Irish of Nebraska in 1970. To this union were born two 
sons: Jeremy and Stacey. They later divorced. He enlisted in the United 
States Army and served his country for a faithful seven years before 
being honorably discharged in October of 1978. In the Army he worked as 
Military Police and was stationed in Germany, Fort Meade Maryland, and 
Fort Riley in Kansas. Following his discharge, he worked in Hays at 
Waffle Crete, then Contact America and Answer Net for many years as a 
supervisor. He retired as a supervisor but stayed busy by doing 
landscaping and lawn maintenance for his neighbors and friends, which he
 loved to do. 
 Lewis was a hardworking, busy body. If he wasn’t tending to a 
friend, neighbor, or family’s lawn, he was hitting garage sales to find 
treasures he could fix up to re-sell for a few extra bucks - and did 
quite well in doing so! He cared deeply for his family and his three 
furry, fat and happy cats. He will be remembered for his witty 
personality, patriotism, and work ethic.
 It has been said, “The happiest of people don’t have the best of 
everything, they just make the best of everything they have,” and 
Lewis’s life was a testament to this.” He was a kind and loving man who 
lived to serve his family, friends, and neighbors. He tended to the 
hearts and souls of all knew him and made a life that will continue to 
grow for eternity.
 Lewis is survived by his siblings, Lorene (Don) Alexander of 
Carmichael, CA, Lana (Larry) Odle of Stockton, KS, Leonard Stephen of 
Atwood, KS; sister-in-law, Barbara Stephen of Phillipsburg, KS; son, 
Stacey (Laura) Stephen of Gothenburg, NE; eight grandchildren, Chase, 
Chyler (Anthoney), Kerigan, Carlin, Collin, Keyan, Holden, and Travin; 
three great-grandchildren, Rosey, Laney, and Grayson; numerous nieces, 
nephews, and cousins; Aunt ArLene Wolfe of Concordia, KS; a very special
 friend, Lenora Goetz; and close friends, Mandy Feik, Jeff Jordan, and 
many others.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Glennys Stephen;

 A Graveside Service will be held at the Stockton City Cemetery in

Janice K. Kennedy, 79, of Wilson, Kansas, and former Russell, Kansas resident, died on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;

Janice was born on March 21, 1942, in Wilson, Kansas, the daughter of Ernie and Neva (McCoy) Vanderbur.&nbsp; She grew up in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Benton L. Kennedy on December 28, 1963, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union, Janice and Benton were blessed with 3 children Kirby, Curt and Laina.&nbsp; She worked in the food service industry as a cook, working for several restaurants in the area.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church.&nbsp; She had many talents and passions and was most passionate about her faith and family.

Surviving family include her son Kirby W. Kennedy of Austin, Texas, Curt A. Kennedy of Russell, Kansas and Laina M. Sack of Phoenix, Arizona; sister Dixie Lamont of Downs, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M., Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the mortuary, with the family present to great guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Lila J. (Schamaun) Bowman, 91, passed away June 20, 2021, at 
Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born January 4, 1930, at Rush 
Center, to Albert &amp; Pauline (Maier) Brack. She married Donald D. 
Schamaun December 11, 1949, at Bazine and they later divorced.

Coming from Bazine in 1959, Lila was a Great Bend resident. She was a
 cosmetologist and then worked as a switchboard operator for CKMC and 
part time as a food demonstrator. Lila enjoyed baking.&nbsp; Her caramel 
rolls and cookies were unmatched, but she was most fondly known as the 
"bierock lady". She especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, a son, Michael Schamaun (Vicki) of New Braunfels, 
Texas; three daughters, Diana Roberts (Ken), and Lana Dietz (Delane), 
all of Great Bend, and Julie Bryant of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Dean 
Brack of Weeping Water, Neb.; a sister, Jeanette Foos and husband 
Franklin of Bazine; a sister in law, Esther Brack of Colorado Springs, 
Col.; six grandchildren, Nicole Soukup, Natalie Gilmer (Sam), Ashley 
Campbell (Michael), Shane Schamaun (Desi), Brittany Magin (Ian), and 
Michael Dietz; 11 great grandchildren, and another great grandson and 
great great granddaughter due in November; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orval Brack 
and Dale Brack; a sister and brother in law, Norma and Fred Erb; 
grandson, T.J. Dietz; and two great grandsons, Kellan Soukup and Gabriel
 Campbell.

Per Lila’s wishes, there will be no ceremony as cremation has taken 
place. Memorials have been designated to Kans for Kids or Kindred 
Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Hays, KS, to David and Brandi (Stejskal) Walker. He enjoyed camping, 
hunting, fishing, cooking and working outside, playing with his nephews 
and spending time with his family and friends.

Eileen K. Bergmann, 74,&nbsp;of&nbsp;Salina&nbsp;passed 
away&nbsp;Thursday,&nbsp;June 17, 2021. She was born June 21, 1946, in&nbsp;Hays, 
Kansas, the daughter of Tony and Ida&nbsp;(Herzog)&nbsp;Kuntz.

She attended elementary school in Park, KS, and graduated from Park High School with the class of 1964.

She married James “Jim” Juenemann on September 16, 1967, in Park, KS.
 Of this union were born four children, Toni, Wayne, David and Matthew 
Juenemann.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jim passed away October 1, 2010. She married Rick 
Bergmann&nbsp;on October 17, 2015, in Salina, KS.

She was a beautician early in her marriage to Jim, then a homemaker before working as a dental assistant until her retirement.

During retirement, she volunteered at Hays Medical Center, Good Samaritan Society, and Presbyterian Manor.

She was a former member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church in 
Hays and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina. She 
enjoyed polka dances, riding her bicycle, spending time with family and 
her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Richard “Rick”&nbsp;Bergmann, four 
children, Toni (Gary) Thompson of Salina, KS, Wayne (Toni) Juenemann of 
Salina, KS, David (Mindy) Juenemann of Victoria, KS and 
Matthew&nbsp;Juenemann of Salina, KS, stepsons, Darrell (Melissa) Bergmann of
 Salina, KS and Brian Bergmann, 10 grandchildren and 4

Harold Rudolph Stegman, 85, Loretto, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, at Wheatland Nursing Center, Russell, Kansas.

Harold was born April 25, 1936, on the family farm near Loretto, 
Kansas, the son of Andrew J. and Lucy E. (Sulzman) Stegman.&nbsp; He was a 
lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a 1954 graduate of 
Victoria High School, Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; Born and raised on the family 
farm, the love of the farm was instilled deep within Harold who was a 
lifetime farmer.&nbsp;

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Loretto, Kansas; and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Harold was a self sacrificing individual taking care of his parents and older brother during their lives.

Survivors include:&nbsp; one brother, LeRoy Stegman (Bernadette), Grand 
Island, Nebraska; two sisters, Evelyn Alexander, Wichita, Kansas, and 
Bernice Wiewel, Russell, Kansas; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Gerald 
Stegman, Raymond Stegman, Melvin Stegman, Donald Stegman, and Everett 
“Ed” Stegman.

She worked in accounts payable, attended Hays High School, and raised her family in&nbsp; Colorado.&nbsp;

 Chand and wife, Tea; Ryan Chand; Sonia Kilmer and husband, Willey; 12 
grandchildren, Jordan Chand; Justin Chand; Dante Chand; Kayla Chand;

Perry, she raised from birth and was his legal guardian.

 Chand and wife, Tea; Ryan Chand; Sonia Kilmer and husband, Willey; 12 
grandchildren, Jordan Chand; Justin Chand; Dante Chand; Kayla Chand; 
David Chand; Karly Chand; Derek Chand; Rylee Chand; Dylan Kilmer; Alyssa
 Kilmer; Ashley Kilmer; Brianna Kilmer; and her great nephew, James Ray

Donna Jean (Collins) Armstrong, 89, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 
2021, at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Donna was born January 22, 1932 in St. Francis, Kansas, the oldest 
daughter of Lewis and Mae (Carmichael) Collins.&nbsp; When she was a teenager
 the family moved to Goodland, Kansas where she graduated from Goodland 
High School in 1950.&nbsp; She was married April 25, 1953 to her high school 
sweetheart, Harry Merle Armstrong Jr. at Camp Carson in Colorado 
Springs, Colorado.&nbsp; After Merle was discharged from the Army they lived 
in Pueblo, Colorado for a short time and returned to Goodland, Kansas to
 raise their family.&nbsp; They moved to Edson, Kansas in 1982 where they 
lived until Merle’s passing in 2017.&nbsp; They had been married for 64 
years.&nbsp; Donna moved to Baldwin City in 2019 to be closer to her children
 in eastern Kansas.

Donna lived a full life as a homemaker, and worked as a police 
dispatcher for several years.&nbsp; She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and 
gardening.&nbsp; She was known for her wittiness and her sharp sense of 
humor.&nbsp; She loved collecting antiques and had a bell collection 
representing locations around the world.&nbsp; She treasured seeing her 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She always had an endless supply
 of Doritos for them.&nbsp; Nearly every time she spoke with them she 
requested they send more pictures.&nbsp;

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Mae Collins, 
husband, Merle, a son, Scott Armstrong, and an infant sister, Jo Ann 
Collins.&nbsp;

She is survived by three children, Vickie (Bennie) Haremza of 
Lawrence, Kansas, Brenda (Cody) Lingo of Cahone, Colorado, and Mike 
(Karen) Armstrong of Fairway, Kansas; a brother, Roger Collins of 
Goodland, Kansas; 11 grandchildren: Jason, Jamey, Jessica, Jennifer, 
Jacob, Ashley, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Patrick, Daniel and Ian; and 15 
great-grandchildren: Lara, Teisha, Annabelle, Bintou, Lee, Finn, Cooper,
 Finnley, Coumba, Youssoupha, Sawyer, Rowan, Wyatt, Cecilia and Sonni 
Rae.

Donna Jean (Collins) Armstrong

Joyce Arlene (Poage) Mapes, longtime resident of Norton, Kansas passed 
away Friday, June 18, 2021, at Hillcrest Grand Lodge in Papillion, 
Nebraska at the age of 89. She was born to Arlie and Cora (Grabast) 
Poage on October 5, 1931, in Goodland, Kansas. Joyce attended school in 
Norcatur, Kansas during her early years and graduated from Lenora High 
School. While attending high school she met the love of her life 
Robert Mapes. They were married on September 25, 1949 in Norton, 
Kansas. They made their home in Lenora and the rural Norcatur 
communities before moving to Norton in 1970. 
 Bob and Joyce owned and operated Mapes Manufacturing in Norton, 
Kansas for many years. Joyce worked as the Office Manager of the 
business and helped on the farm. Joyce was a member of the Norton 
Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting and made 
beautiful quilts which she has shared with her family. Bob and Joyce 
loved to play cards and travel. In retirement, they spent their winters
 in their motorhome in Texas, Florida, and Arizona. Eventually, they 
decided to buy a home in Green Valley, Arizona where the spent the 
winters and summered in the Norton. Joyce’s greatest joy in her life 
was spending time with her family.
 Joyce leaves to mourn her daughter, Susan Perkins and husband Allen 
of Omaha, Nebraska; sons, John Mapes of Norton, Kansas and Rocky Mapes 
and wife Rona of Thornton, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 18 
great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lee Aguilar of Elk River, MN and 
other friends and relatives.
 She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mapes; parents, 
Arlie and Cora Poage; son, Dan Mapes; daughter-in-law, Lee Mapes; 
sisters, Jo Ann Poage and Loretta Ellis; brother, Ira James Poage; 
grandson, Kevin Mapes; granddaughter, Amy Mapes and sister-in-law, Leone

Joyce A. (Poage) Mapes

Nathan Thomas Peterka, 35, of Paola, Kansas left this world on June 13, 2021. You may have known him as “Turkey," “Nater," “Nateman,” “Nate” or “Nae Nae.” If you knew Nathan, you know the world will not be the same without him.

Nathan was born June 21, 1985, in Hays, Kansas, to Tom Peterka and Galene (Brown) Steckel.&nbsp; Throughout his childhood, he was always on the move. If something were going to be wrecked, spilled or disassembled, he was the one who would do it. No snow globe was safe around Nathan. You would likely find him in the spotlight, showing off his karate moves, and always with a big smile. He had a special and long-lasting connection with everyone he crossed paths with. Each person holds memories close to their heart that lead to laughter and comfort when shared.

Nathan married Lindsy (Harders) Peterka on September 13, 2013, by the river, one of his favorite places. He loved their dogs, Stella and Cali, tremendously. So much, in fact, Nathan and Lindsy took their dogs to the river or lake several times a week. It was their family’s happy place. From cooking to canning, Nathan was game, as long as it was food related. He could make a gourmet meal out of a bologna sandwich.&nbsp; All his nieces can attest to this. &nbsp;

Nathan loved outdoor adventures such as kayaking, camping, riding ATVs, dirt bikes, and of course, shooting, because he learned from the best: his stepfather, Rod Steckel. It was not uncommon to find him in the backyard in his hammock under the stars. He was frequently found (involuntarily) working on projects with his dad who lived next door -- kinda hard to hide from. On the contrary, his mom was always hearing, “We will get it done, mom”. His brothers and sisters will never forget the nicknames he had for them and the distinct way he answered their phone calls.&nbsp;

Nathan will be fondly remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor, his bubbly spirit, and outgoing personality. His quick-wit and ability to turn on the charm made him a stranger to nobody and a friend to all. His family often describes him as being a pain in the butt, but ultimately, they loved him for it. They will miss his teasing and poking fun because nobody can quite “tell it like it is” the way Nathan could.&nbsp;

Surviving to honor his memory are his wife, Lindsy, Paola, KS; his mother Galene Steckel, Russell, KS; his father Tom Peterka, Paola, KS; step-father Rod Steckel, Russell, KS; sisters Nicole Barrera, Russell, KS; Haley Chavez and husband, Luis, Grandview, MO; Heather Steckel, Russell, KS; Crystal Miner and husband, Dan, Hays, KS; one brother, Jerod Steckel, Russell, KS; and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins, all who he loved very much.&nbsp;

Nathan Thomas Peterka

Following two decades of bravely overcoming myriad maladies, Ric Tribble
 passed peacefully surrounded by family and seemingly at peace with the 
fate brought by his final illness. 
Jon Eric “Ric” Tribble was born on August 18, 1943 in Hays, Kansas. He 
was the youngest of four children of Katherine and Carl Tribble. Some 
eight years younger than his closest sibling, he was the prototypical 
fourth child who kept his parents on their toes. Yet he was always the 
apple of his mother’s eye, who adored him until her own passing in 1993. 
As a child, Ric moved around with his family. His father worked for 
pipeline companies in Kansas and Ric spent time in schools in many small
 towns. His high school years were divided between the southeastern 
Kansas towns of Chanute and Garnett, and he considered these two his 
early homes. 
Ric was President of his college fraternity at Pittsburg State College 
in Pittsburg, Kansas, majoring in economics. He was recruited from 
college to a Southwestern Bell management program and, after a ten-week 
training, was offered a position as manager of the Dodge City office. A
 short stent in this role was all it took for Ric to realize that he did
 not aspire to a life in corporate management and that he wanted to have
 some semblance of his own lock on destiny, which led him to become a 
manufacturers’ representative in the apparel trade. 
Also during this time, Ric joined the U.S. Army Reserves and served as a
 Second Lieutenant in the 137th Infantry Regiment, earning a 
sharpshooter qualification. 
In the apparel business, Ric made many friends and visited many 
restaurants. His mother, KK as she became known to a legion of 
grandchildren, was a critic and connoisseur of all things edible, and 
she passed this cursed gift on to her youngest son, as she did to his 
older siblings. They all became particular, if not in fact picky. So 
as Ric travelled the various towns and occasional cities of the Midwest,
 he scouted out good meals and took note of bad ones. He kept a mental 
diary of things he loved which would become an important part of his 
future. 
In 1975, Ric married Mary McCurry in Kansas City. Mary was an apparel 
buyer for a department store and the two quickly joined in the business 
of apparel sales. The newlyweds first lived together on the Country 
Club Plaza in Kansas City before buying a bungalow in Manhattan, Kansas. 
The apparel business was a seasonal one, and perhaps it left Ric too 
much time to get into trouble, for in 1979 he opened his first 
restaurant, Ric’s Café. It was a quiet and hard-to-find place a bit 
afield to the campus of Kansas State University, yet it became a place 
that is still remembered by people surviving from those distant days. 
In Manhattan, Kansas, this was perhaps the first restaurant to feature 
steak tartare, escargot, and other continental standards that hadn’t 
previously reached the Kansas Prairie. 
Everette Ray Call, Editor of the Emporia Gazette, hosted Norman Isaacs 
for dinner at the restaurant in 1980 and subsequently wrote in his 
regular editorial column, “there is something about the atmosphere at 
Ric’s Café that inspires good conversation.” The friends Ric and Mary 
made in their days at Ric’s café were vast and long-lasting and, to this
 day, are still among visitors to their home in Lancaster. And those 
same friends have hosted them in many distant places as well as closer 
to home. 
Ric’s only son, Max, was born in 1980. In 1998, as a freshman in a 
lecture hall of 300 students, Max was asked by his economics professor 
during the first roll call if he was “the son of Ric’s Café,” of which 
his parents had divested in 1981. Such a place it was that it still held
 strong in the memory of Manhattanites then, as it does today. And 
throughout Max’s four years as a student at Kansas State, this was a 
recurring theme: “Tribble? Ric’s Café?” 
In 1986, the apparel business took Ric and his family to Lancaster, 
Pennsylvania. In his early days in Lancaster, Ric became involved in 
the YMCA through his life-long passion for handball. He competed in the
 statewide over-50 championships. During this time, he also volunteered
 for Hogares-CREA. 
In 1994, Ric and Mary founded Ric’s Breads. While their mainstay 
operation at Lancaster’s Central Market is still operating today, they 
also had stands at York Central Market and Harrisburg’s West Shore 
Market. Ric operated a bakery at 414 N. Pine Street for many years 
before opening the bakery on North Queen Street, where Ric’s Bread is 
still in business. 
In 2004, Ric suffered a heart attack. Though at first it appeared that 
he would get by with minimally-invasive procedures and return to a 
normal life, his condition rapidly devolved and in April of 2004, Ric 
received a heart transplant. He had spent a mere five weeks in the 
Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania prior to the transplant, and 
only about ten days after, but he always held a reverence for the 
institution and the surgeons and medical team who saw him through this 
unimaginable phase of life. 
In 2005, Ric and Mary sold the bakery and Ric joined Mary in the real 
estate business. Ric loved real estate and, even at 62, took to it 
naturally. Several years later, with their partner Scott Haverstick, 
Ric and Mary bought the Puffer Morris Agency in downtown Lancaster where
 Ric served as broker. Together these three “older” Lancastrians 
embarked on a new business that kept Ric engaged until the very end of 
his life. 
In his later years, Ric continued to be engaged in the community, 
volunteering for the Literacy Council to help immigrants learn to read 
and write in English. He was a co-founder and the first President of 
the Lancaster Central Market Trust. 
In 2018, with 14 years of transplant-survival under his belt, Ric began 
to slow down. After nearly two months of hospitalization, the surgeon 
who had placed the new heart into his body a decade and a half before 
repaired two leaking valves and performed a bypass surgery. It was 
noted as being the first mitral valve repair to a transplanted heart 
performed at the University of Pennsylvania. Before long, Ric was spry 
again, back at work and back to much of his normal life. He was able to
 travel a bit and to spend time with his only grandchild, Dayton 
Williams Tribble, who will always remember his Pop Pop as a funny and 
kind man who liked to tease him and play fun jokes. 
Ric loved to travel and was a student of architecture, history and 
cooking during his trips to France, Italy and Spain, but he may have 
enjoyed his time in England the most, describing the cuisine in generous
 terms. Ric and Mary had a trip planned to France in May of 2020 and, 
like the plans of so many, it was interrupted by circumstances beyond 
anyone’s control. He made the most of a long and isolating year, still 
cooking and baking at home. 
Ric is predeceased by his brother Carl Jr. of Summit Point WV, and his 
sisters Katherine and Jerri Anne, both of Fort Worth, Texas. He is 
survived by his wife, Mary, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage

 </figure>Following two decades of bravely overcoming myriad maladies, Ric Tribble
 passed peacefully surrounded by family and seemingly at peace with the 
fate brought by his final illness. 
Jon Eric “Ric” Tribble was born on August 18, 1943 in Hays, Kansas. He 
was the youngest of four children of Katherine and Carl Tribble. Some 
eight years younger than his closest sibling, he was the prototypical 
fourth child who kept his parents on their toes. Yet he was always the 
apple of his mother’s eye, who adored him until her own passing in 1993. 
As a child, Ric moved around with his family. His father worked for 
pipeline companies in Kansas and Ric spent time in schools in many small
 towns. His high school years were divided between the southeastern 
Kansas towns of Chanute and Garnett, and he considered these two his 
early homes. 
Ric was President of his college fraternity at Pittsburg State College 
in Pittsburg, Kansas, majoring in economics. He was recruited from 
college to a Southwestern Bell management program and, after a ten-week 
training, was offered a position as manager of the Dodge City office. A
 short stent in this role was all it took for Ric to realize that he did
 not aspire to a life in corporate management and that he wanted to have
 some semblance of his own lock on destiny, which led him to become a 
manufacturers’ representative in the apparel trade. 
Also during this time, Ric joined the U.S. Army Reserves and served as a
 Second Lieutenant in the 137th Infantry Regiment, earning a 
sharpshooter qualification. 
In the apparel business, Ric made many friends and visited many 
restaurants. His mother, KK as she became known to a legion of 
grandchildren, was a critic and connoisseur of all things edible, and 
she passed this cursed gift on to her youngest son, as she did to his 
older siblings. They all became particular, if not in fact picky. So 
as Ric travelled the various towns and occasional cities of the Midwest,
 he scouted out good meals and took note of bad ones. He kept a mental 
diary of things he loved which would become an important part of his 
future. 
In 1975, Ric married Mary McCurry in Kansas City. Mary was an apparel 
buyer for a department store and the two quickly joined in the business 
of apparel sales. The newlyweds first lived together on the Country 
Club Plaza in Kansas City before buying a bungalow in Manhattan, Kansas. 
The apparel business was a seasonal one, and perhaps it left Ric too 
much time to get into trouble, for in 1979 he opened his first 
restaurant, Ric’s Café. It was a quiet and hard-to-find place a bit 
afield to the campus of Kansas State University, yet it became a place 
that is still remembered by people surviving from those distant days. 
In Manhattan, Kansas, this was perhaps the first restaurant to feature 
steak tartare, escargot, and other continental standards that hadn’t 
previously reached the Kansas Prairie. 
Everette Ray Call, Editor of the Emporia Gazette, hosted Norman Isaacs 
for dinner at the restaurant in 1980 and subsequently wrote in his 
regular editorial column, “there is something about the atmosphere at 
Ric’s Café that inspires good conversation.” The friends Ric and Mary 
made in their days at Ric’s café were vast and long-lasting and, to this
 day, are still among visitors to their home in Lancaster. And those 
same friends have hosted them in many distant places as well as closer 
to home. 
Ric’s only son, Max, was born in 1980. In 1998, as a freshman in a 
lecture hall of 300 students, Max was asked by his economics professor 
during the first roll call if he was “the son of Ric’s Café,” of which 
his parents had divested in 1981. Such a place it was that it still held
 strong in the memory of Manhattanites then, as it does today. And 
throughout Max’s four years as a student at Kansas State, this was a 
recurring theme: “Tribble? Ric’s Café?” 
In 1986, the apparel business took Ric and his family to Lancaster, 
Pennsylvania. In his early days in Lancaster, Ric became involved in 
the YMCA through his life-long passion for handball. He competed in the
 statewide over-50 championships. During this time, he also volunteered
 for Hogares-CREA. 
In 1994, Ric and Mary founded Ric’s Breads. While their mainstay 
operation at Lancaster’s Central Market is still operating today, they 
also had stands at York Central Market and Harrisburg’s West Shore 
Market. Ric operated a bakery at 414 N. Pine Street for many years 
before opening the bakery on North Queen Street, where Ric’s Bread is 
still in business. 
In 2004, Ric suffered a heart attack. Though at first it appeared that 
he would get by with minimally-invasive procedures and return to a 
normal life, his condition rapidly devolved and in April of 2004, Ric 
received a heart transplant. He had spent a mere five weeks in the 
Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania prior to the transplant, and 
only about ten days after, but he always held a reverence for the 
institution and the surgeons and medical team who saw him through this 
unimaginable phase of life. 
In 2005, Ric and Mary sold the bakery and Ric joined Mary in the real 
estate business. Ric loved real estate and, even at 62, took to it 
naturally. Several years later, with their partner Scott Haverstick, 
Ric and Mary bought the Puffer Morris Agency in downtown Lancaster where
 Ric served as broker. Together these three “older” Lancastrians 
embarked on a new business that kept Ric engaged until the very end of 
his life. 
In his later years, Ric continued to be engaged in the community, 
volunteering for the Literacy Council to help immigrants learn to read 
and write in English. He was a co-founder and the first President of 
the Lancaster Central Market Trust. 
In 2018, with 14 years of transplant-survival under his belt, Ric began 
to slow down. After nearly two months of hospitalization, the surgeon 
who had placed the new heart into his body a decade and a half before 
repaired two leaking valves and performed a bypass surgery. It was 
noted as being the first mitral valve repair to a transplanted heart 
performed at the University of Pennsylvania. Before long, Ric was spry 
again, back at work and back to much of his normal life. He was able to
 travel a bit and to spend time with his only grandchild, Dayton 
Williams Tribble, who will always remember his Pop Pop as a funny and 
kind man who liked to tease him and play fun jokes. 
Ric loved to travel and was a student of architecture, history and 
cooking during his trips to France, Italy and Spain, but he may have 
enjoyed his time in England the most, describing the cuisine in generous
 terms. Ric and Mary had a trip planned to France in May of 2020 and, 
like the plans of so many, it was interrupted by circumstances beyond 
anyone’s control. He made the most of a long and isolating year, still 
cooking and baking at home. 
Ric is predeceased by his brother Carl Jr. of Summit Point WV, and his 
sisters Katherine and Jerri Anne, both of Fort Worth, Texas. He is 
survived by his wife, Mary, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage
 in this past Valentine’s Day, his son, Max Tribble of Lancaster, and 
his grandson, Dayton Williams Tribble of Colchester, Vermont, and his 
sister-in-law, Patricia of Summit Point, WV.

Harold (Chuck) Charles Kohfeld beloved husband, father, grandfather and 
great-grandfather passed away on May 1, 2021, in his home at Oro Valley,
 Arizona from natural causes at the age of 91. Chuck was born on 
February 5, 1930, in Norton, Kansas, to Harold Cornelius Kohfeld and 
Alice Kohfeld. He spent his childhood in Colby, KS and moved to Norton 
when he was 12 years old. He graduated from NCHS with the class of ‘48. 
 After high school, he attended the University of Kansas for 2 years 
before enlisting into the United States Navy during the Korean war. When
 the war ended he was able to return and finish his studies at KU. 
 In 1955, Chuck returned to his hometown of Norton, KS to work at the
 First National Bank, which later became First Security Bank, with his 
grandfather and father. The bank started in 1887. The Kohfeld family 
became involved in the bank around 1900 with the Smiley family and 
enjoyed a long, positive and productive relationship. Chuck continued to
 work at the bank with his family, including his son Karl Kohfeld, his 
son-in-law Joe Herman, his nephew Kurt Kohfeld and later his grandsons 
Aaron Herman and Charlie Kohfeld. Many of his kids and grandkids also 
worked there during their summer and winter breaks. Chuck stayed very 
active and involved with the bank until it sold in 2014. 
 Chuck was an avid tennis player, playing tennis almost daily until 
his mid-eighties. He enjoyed boating and gardening. He was very active 
in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and loved getting to 
know his seven great-grandchildren. 
 He was proceeded in death by his brother Kenny Kohfeld (March 11, 
1968) and Kenny’s widow Mary Ann Kohfeld (April 29, 2021).

He is 
survived by his wife Beverly Somers Kohfeld, his son Karl Somers Kohfeld
 (Shelly Smith), his daughters Claire Herman (Joe Herman) and Kris 
Kohfeld Stauder. His grandchildren Aaron Herman (Chelle Herman), Hanna 
Kohfeld (Jarrod Ward), Charlie Kohfeld (Jennifer Kohfeld), Jordan Herman
 (Katie Avery), Preston Herman, Marcus Herman, Maddy Stauder and Sam 
Stauder. His great-grandchildren Alexis and Wesley Kohfeld, Peyton, 
Wyatt, Thomas, and Henry Herman, and Esme Ward. 
 The Norton Public Library was very important to Chuck, as he was 
instrumental in getting it built. Memorial donations may be made to the

Curtis Delmar Keil, 60, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas after a tragic auto accident.

Curtis was born on July 2, 1960, in Russell County, Kansas, the son of Delmar H. and Barbara J. (Peters) Keil.&nbsp; He grew up in the Russell, Paradise and Natoma, Kansas areas, and graduated from Russell High School.&nbsp; He was married to Peggy Eulert and from this union they were blessed with 3 boys David, Drew and Owen.&nbsp; Curtis and Peggy divorced and later he was married to Debbie LaBarge.&nbsp; He worked many years for Lario Oil and Gas Inc..&nbsp; In the past he was a volunteer fireman for the Paradise Fire Department.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and was considered a gifted handyman that could tackle most do it yourself projects around the house including construction and electrical work.

Surviving family include his wife Debbie; sons David Keil of Kansas City, Missouri, Drew Keil of Overland Park, Kansas and Owen Keil of Kansas City, Missouri; step children Weston Schurz, Tessie Foltz and Jevon Hejny; brother Dale Keil and sister Sheila Keil both of Russell, Kansas and 7 grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

John “J.R.” Henry Russ Jr. passed away on June 18, 2021, at Wesley 
Medical Center in Wichita, KS at the age of 80. He was born on April 4, 
1941 in Leavenworth, Kansas and was adopted by John Henry, Sr. and 
Florence (Steerman) Russ. J.R. married Judith K. Olson on May 28, 1961. 
They were blessed with three children: Jacqueline, Justin, and Jennifer.
 They later divorced.
 J.R. grew up on the family farm south of Stockton, KS. He graduated 
from Stockton High School with the Class of 1959. He returned to the 
family farm where he farmed and ranched during his early years.
 J.R. was a past Rotary member, member of Main Street Christian 
Church in Stockton for many years, and later First Christian Church in 
Plainville. He played the piano and organ for the churches and many 
other special events and funerals in many communities most all his life.
 His main love was music. For J.R., life was one grand, sweet song that 
has never ended. He will be remembered for the music he so gladly 
provided for anyone that asked, and we take comfort in knowing that 
although his life on earth is finished, he now embraces the fullness of 
life only his Lord can provide, that of eternal glory with Him, forever.
 Surviving J.R. are his children, Jacqueline (Ronnie) Gibson of 
Copeland, KS, Jennifer (Steve) Griebel of WaKeeney, KS, and Justin Russ 
(fiancé Lori Jackson) of Stockton; sister Joan Hull of Oro Valley, AZ; 
five grandchildren, Megan (Levi) Hedlund, Heather (Daniel) Hill, Ann 
Griebel, Taylor (David) Ghumm, and Cody (Madi) Russ; 4 
great-grandchildren, Waylon, Wyatt, Luke, Leah, and two on the way, Baby

Arlene Esther Miller, 92, passed away on June 18, 2021 at Hays 
Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on October 23, 1928 in 
Ness City, Kansas the daughter of Harvey and Kathryn (Nonnast) Musbach.

She was a lifetime resident of Ness City, a member of the First 
Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She graduated from Ness City 
High School and worked at the ASCS office in Ness City where she met her
 future husband.&nbsp; She married Frank X. Miller on November 13, 1949, in 
Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; Frank preceded her in death on January 2, 2012

Arlene is survived by her two sons, Kent and Chris Miller of Beloit, 
and Kirk and Lois Miller of LaCrosse; one daughter, Annette and Dan Frey
 of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Zach,
 Matthew, Sarah, Katie, and Max; and 10 great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was 
preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Kirby Miller; 
brother, Alan and Mina Musbach; two sisters, Irene and Ralph Stenzel and
 Vi and Earl Burditt; and a half sister, Grace Etzweiler.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at 
the First Baptist Church, Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial in the Ness City 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Tuesday from 
9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church.

 </figure>Arlene Esther Miller, 92, passed away on June 18, 2021 at Hays 
Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on October 23, 1928 in 
Ness City, Kansas the daughter of Harvey and Kathryn (Nonnast) Musbach.She was a lifetime resident of Ness City, a member of the First 
Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She graduated from Ness City 
High School and worked at the ASCS office in Ness City where she met her
 future husband.&nbsp; She married Frank X. Miller on November 13, 1949, in 
Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; Frank preceded her in death on January 2, 2012Arlene is survived by her two sons, Kent and Chris Miller of Beloit, 
and Kirk and Lois Miller of LaCrosse; one daughter, Annette and Dan Frey
 of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Zach,
 Matthew, Sarah, Katie, and Max; and 10 great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was 
preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Kirby Miller; 
brother, Alan and Mina Musbach; two sisters, Irene and Ralph Stenzel and
 Vi and Earl Burditt; and a half sister, Grace Etzweiler.Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at 
the First Baptist Church, Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial in the Ness City 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Tuesday from 
9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church.

Arlene Esther Miller

Bryan Leroy Habiger, 57, passed away suddenly on June 17, 2021 at his
 home on the family ranch.&nbsp; He was born on December 18, 1963 in Ness 
City, the son of Walter Francis and Dawn Elda (Reed) Habiger.

Bryan was raised on the family farm northwest of Charleston. &nbsp;He 
graduated from Ingalls High School in 1982.&nbsp; Bryan went on to further 
his education at Garden City Community College, graduating in 1984 with 
an associates degree in industrial arts.&nbsp; He continued farming and 
running a cow/calf operation with his dad and later moved to Kalvesta.

Bryan enjoyed woodworking, restoring old cars, karaoke and loved 
playing foosball.&nbsp; He also liked to race on dirt tracks and demolition 
derbies.&nbsp; He had the same racing number, 007, for both racing and 
demolition.&nbsp; Bryan was always learning new things.&nbsp; He was willing to 
help his family and friends with any project they had.&nbsp; His greatest joy
 was his children, Austin and Kierstin.

Bryan is survived by his children, Austin and Kierstin Habiger both 
of Austin, Texas; his parents, Walter and Dawn Habiger of Cimarron; 
three sisters, Tina Kasselman of Spearville, Ivy Wehkamp and husband 
Kenny of Cimarron, and Betty Jantz also of Cimarron; girlfriend, Kim 
Frodin of Cimarron; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, as well
 as a host of friends.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in 
Ingalls on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Warren Stecklein
 presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery. A book signing 
will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 
noon to 8:00 PM.&nbsp; The casket will remain closed.&nbsp; Memorials are 
suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Colette Arnoldy, 97, passed away June 16, 2021.  She was born November 17, 1923 in Tipton, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Koenigsman) Arnoldy.

She is preceded in death by her brothers: Raymond, Lawrence, Silverius, Aloysius, James, Charles and Clement and nephew, Donnie.

She is survived by ten nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, June 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Tipton.  Rosary/vigil service will be held Sunday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m.  Memorials may be given to Tipton Schools in care of Domoney Funeral Home, PO Box 127, Downs, KS 67437.
