Edward Pete Peltz Jr.

Carolyn Meier Denchfield, age 85, passed away July 4, 2021, at the Logan
 County Senior Living Center. She was born Carolyn Weigel, to Wilhelmina
 Weigel, in Chicago, Illinois, on January 27, 1936. Her mother passed 
away in March of 1943. Carolyn was then adopted by Wendle and Josephine
 Knoll Meier, of Holcomb, Kansas, in April 1944. Although she was an 
only child, she was surrounded by numerous cousins from the Meier and 
Knoll families. 
She lived on a farm near Holcomb and attended school there until the 
middle of 7th grade when they moved to Garden City. She completed 7th 
and 8th grade at St. Mary's Parochial School. When she was in the 9th 
grade, her English class presented a Christmas play, "No Room at the 
Inn" and that is where she first met Keith Denchfield. He played the 
part of Joseph and she played the part of Mary. She knew Keith during 
high school, but they never dated. She graduated from Garden City High 
School with the class of 1953. 
After graduation she worked as a store clerk at Ideal Foods and then as a
 bank teller at Garden National Bank. In December of 1956 Keith was 
home for Christmas vacation. He came into the bank and asked her to 
attend a class reunion their class was having. She agreed and they 
continued dating and were married September 1, 1957. They welcomed Mark 
in 1959, Jeffrey in 1962 and Wendy in 1964. 
Keith joined the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1962 and was assigned to 
various locations in northwest Kansas, finally ending up in WaKeeney in 
1966. Carolyn went to work for the Ralph Clark Law Firm. Upon Ralph's 
retirement, she went to work for the Probate Judge. During her time with
 the judge, the court system unified, and she became the Deputy Clerk of
 the District Court working for Cora Hladek. She was appointed the Clerk
 of the District Court of Trego County February 1983, where she remained
 until her retirement in September 2001. 
Carolyn was a lifetime member of the Gamma Eta Sorority, with 57 years 
of service, a 50 year member of Christ the King Catholic Church, 
WaKeeney and most recently, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 
Oakley. She enjoyed reading and scrapbooking, but her greatest joy was 
being ‘Grammy’ to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During 
their retirement years Keith and Carolyn traveled around the country to 
visit family and friends. They also enjoyed many adventures with the 
class of 1953. She was an amazing daughter, wife, mom, grammy and 
friend and will be missed dearly. 
Survivors include her husband, Keith, of Oakley; sons, Mark Denchfield 
and wife Pauline, of Hutchinson and Jeffrey Denchfield and wife Sherry, 
of Greenwood Village, Colorado; daughter Wendy Glassman and husband 
David, of Oakley; four grandchildren, who were her joy, Allison 
Glassman, Ethan Glassman, Derek Glassman and wife Sadie and Cole 
Denchfield and three great-granddaughters, who she was blessed to be 
near, Ronnie Josephine, Hattie Rose, and Evie Lyn. 
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Wilhelmina Weigel; her 
parents, Wendle and Josephine Meier; grandparents, John and Elizabeth 
Meier and Adam and Eva Knoll and father and mother-In-Law Ray and 
Mildred Denchfield. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Oakley, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 
a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, 
with burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial

Carolyn Denchfield (Meier)

Timothy Wayne “Tim” Johnson, 48, of Salina, Kansas, passed away July 6, 2021 at his home, after a prolonged illness. He was born January 22, 1973, in Ft. Carson, Colorado, the son of Walter E. Johnson and Carol A. Henry. 

Tim graduated from Lyons High School, Lyons, Kansas, with the class of 1992; and later received his ASE Certification from Hutchinson Community College. He has resided in Salina since 2008, formerly of Hoisington and Lyons. Tim worked as a painter for Cessna, Spirit, and Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, and at Hodges Body Shop in Lyons. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. 

On December 23, 2006, Tim was united in marriage with Beckie Dreiling in Hoisington. She survives of the home along with their four children, Zoie, Zylie, Zurie, and Zade; and their beloved dog, Ziggy. Tim is also survived by his mother, Carol Stewart (Mike) of Lyons; father, Walter Johnson (Chasity) of AL; and a mother to him, Denise Froehlich of Michigan; six siblings, Wally Johnson (Stephanie) of College Station, TX, Cody Luck (Jennifer) of Lyons, Neil Johnson (Jessie) of Michigan, Mandy Paterson (Keith) of Michigan, Stephanie Minix (Steve) of Lyons, and Michelle Richmond (Mark) of Rolla, MO; mother-in-law, Sharon Dreiling of Hoisington; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tim is going to be reunited in heaven with his father, Dennis Luck; favorite uncle, Fred Henry; and best friends, Vern and Barb Stutz. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 12, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present.

Steve A. Wright, age 49, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at the 
Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on April 20, 1972
 in Scott City, Kansas, the son of Roy Alvin and Rose Marie Wright.&nbsp; 
Steve was a lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas and was the former 
owner and operator of C7 Cattle Company.&nbsp; He was a man with a multitude 
of talents.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On July 8, 1995 he married Kim Richardson in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include - Kim Wright of Scott City, Kansas, Three Sons - 
Layton C. Wright of Scott City, Kansas, Luke K. Wright of Scott City, 
Kansas, L. Kooper Wright of Scott City, Kansas, Parents - Roy &amp; Rose
 Wright of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sisters - Sherry Ann Wright of 
Oklahoma, Sara L. Morlan of Scott City, Kansas, Numerous Aunts, Uncles, 
Nieces, Nephews, along with many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Grandparents.

Steve A. Wright

On June 28th, 2021, Kenneth LeRoy Peterson unexpectedly passed peacefully from 
this life while at home in Cypress, California, two weeks shy of his 
82nd birthday. 

Ken was born July 14, 1939, in Norton, Kansas, to 
(Irenus) LeRoy “Pete” Peterson and Helen Gwendolyn “Agnes” (Ward) 
Peterson, the second of 11 children. A few months after his birth, the 
family moved to California, returning to Kansas in 1949. Ken graduated 
from Norton County High School in 1957 and then enlisted in the Navy. He
 graduated from Boot Camp (San Diego), completed several aviation 
schools before joining the fleet to serve with VAH-6 (Heavy Attack 
Squadron-6) aboard the USS RANGER (CV-61) in the Western Pacific. On 
June 30, 1962, Ken married his long-time middle and high school 
sweetheart, Carolyn Kay Kintigh, at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
 in Norton, Kansas. Over their 59 years of marriage, they were blessed 
with 4 sons, 14 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. 
 After completing his active Navy, Kenneth enrolled at Fort Hays 
State University to pursue his engineering degree, later transferring to
 Wichita State and graduating in January 1966. Before graduating, he 
started his civilian aviation career at Cessna Aircraft, moving after 
graduation to Pratt &amp; Whitney Aircraft and then moving to McDonnell 
Douglas in Long Beach, California, in 1968. Ken completed over 20 years 
with McDonnell Douglas, rising through the ranks, and retired as an 
executive with Boeing Aircraft post-merger. During this time, Ken also 
continued his Naval service, receiving a commission in the Navy Reserve 
as an Air Intelligence officer in 1968 and eventually retired at the 
rank of Captain (O6), USNR, after over 20 years of service. 
 Ken was very involved in his community, volunteering to support his 
sons’ activities as they grew up and then with various community 
organizations benefiting the less fortunate. Ken was very involved with 
his local parish, St. Irenaeus, serving on several parish committees and
 the funeral ministry, participating in the choir, and volunteering as a
 Eucharistic minister. He was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of 
Columbus and served as Grand Knight of Council 8599.
 Ken is preceded in death by his parents, 4 of his brothers (Joseph, 
Michael, Charles, Donald), one sister (Alice Goscha), and grandson 
(Aaron).

Besides his loving wife Carolyn Kay Peterson, he leaves behind 
son Kevin and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Bakke) Peterson; son Kent and 
daughter-in-law Carolyn (Grohman) Peterson; son Mark and daughter-in-law
 Dawn (Varner) Peterson; ex-daughter-in-law Leslie (Hansberger); son 
Christopher and daughter-in-law Annette (Rebillard) Peterson, 13 
grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
 The family is extremely thankful for the outpouring of sympathy and 
gifts we have received in our time of grief. In lieu of flowers, the 
family kindly requests contributions be made to 8599 Knights of Columbus
 Council or H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everyday) at St. Irenaeus 
Church.
 Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, July 24, 
2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton. Inurnment with 
military honors will follow at Norton Cemetery. A Wake service will be 
held at 7:00 pm Friday, July 23, 2021 at the church.

Abiel Angel Zapata, age 3, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 
the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on August 29,

Sandra Sue Herman, age 83, of Hays, 
Kansas passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, in St. Francis.&nbsp; She was 
born August 6, 1937, in Hays to Lawrence and Minnie (Haneke) Ashbaugh. 
She married August, “Augie” Herman on May 12, 1956, at St. Mary’s 
Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas. He preceded her in death January 18, 
2013.

She was a homemaker and housewife. She 
had been a member of Ellis Women’s Golf Association and Ellis Women’s 
Bowling Association.&nbsp; Sandra took pride in her role as mother and 
grandmother to her children.&nbsp; She enjoyed both vegetable and flower 
gardening.&nbsp; While she was able, she spent time bowling and golfing with 
her friends.&nbsp; She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, 
painting, reading, crossword puzzles, and zigzag puzzles.

Survivors include her three sons, 
Timothy, Danny (fiancé Sarah Brogden), Galen (Annette), all of Hays, 
daughters Kimberly Thomason (Michael) of Hays, and Tammy Bracelin 
(Chris) of St. Francis, KS; one sister Dixie Seibel (Jack) of Peoria IL,
 two sisters in law, Karen Ashbaugh (Bell) of Ellis, and Karen Ashbaugh 
(Ptaschek) of Seattle, WA; nine grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband, son Theodore Herman, brothers Darwin Ashbaugh, Dwayne 
Ashbaugh and Steve Ashbaugh.

Graveside services will be held Friday, July 9, 2021, at 11:00&nbsp;AM at St. Mary’s cemetery in Ellis, Kansas.

Marjorie “Marj” Lee (Williams) Brown, 87, of Colby, died Tuesday, July 
6, 2021, at the University of Colorado Hospital, in Aurora, CO. She was 
born in Oklahoma City, OK, to Mack Olaf and Florence Elizabeth (Wheaton)
 Williams. She had one older sister and a younger sister and brother. 
When Marj was 12 years old, her family relocated to Colby, KS, where her
 father did carpentry work. At the age of 15, her parents divorced, and 
her mother remarried a year later to Robert Richards, also of Colby. 
This added two stepsisters and a stepbrother to the family. 
Marj graduated from Colby High School in May of 1953 and married James 
“Jim” M. Brown, on November 22, of that same year. Jim was drafted into
 the United States Army and left for Korea just 4 days after their 
wedding. To this union, the couple had three children. After Jim’s 
return from the service, he worked as a manager of the Midwest Energy 
Power Plant, in Colby. Marj took art and English courses at Colby 
College. She was also active in the Colby United Methodist Church, where
 she taught Sunday School and instructed the children’s Cherub Choir. 
Marj belonged to the Colby Music Club, the first High Plains Art Club 
and Hoe and Hope Garden Club. 
Once her children were all in school, Marj went to work for Bill James 
at Prairie Printers Inc., of Colby, where she did artwork and put 
publications together. Later, she also worked as a news reporter for the
 James’s Prairie Drummer Newspaper for 12 years. She and Editor Bill 
James co-authored the book, History of Gem, Kansas. 
After the James’s sold the business and moved away, Marj donated her 
time teaching Psychiatric Remotivation classes at the Good Samaritan 
Nursing Home. She later graduated from Colby Community College with 
Emergency Medical Technician and Licensed Practical Nurse degrees. She 
went to work at the old St. Thomas Hospital, in Colby. After working 
there for 10 years, she attended Garden City College to earn her 
Registered Nurse license. Marj then went to work at the newly built 
Citizens Medical Center, in Colby, where she was the head nurse in the 
Intensive Care Unit. During that time, she became the first editor of 
hospitals new newspaper, The Health Harvester. 
Marj retired from nursing in June of 1999 and went back to her artwork 
by assisting Kenneth Mitchell to paint the large mural in the new Bedker
 Hall, at Colby Community College, along with several other of 
Mitchell’s former students. Later she restarted the High Plains Art Club
 and started the Colby Writer’s Group. She publisher her novel, Secretes
 of Roberts Mountain, in August of 2014. During the 2015 Colby High 
School All School Reunion she was honored with the schools High Flying 
Eagle Award. 
For a short time after her retirement Marj worked as a reporter for the 
Colby Free Press newspaper. However, she felt that did not leave her 
time to work on the writing she wanted to do, or on her artwork, so she 
quit the paper, but continued to write a column for them a couple of 
times a month titled, Marj’s Snippets. 
Going before her in death were her parents; stepfather; in-laws, Ralph 
and Myrtle Brown, of Colby; stepbrother David Richards; great- 
granddaughter Rayanna Marie Harsh; great-grandson Aaron James Brown, 
Jr.; brother-in-law Myron Hankins, of Richland, WA, and all her aunts 
and uncles. 
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband; three children, Duane 
(Velvola) Brown, of Colby, Allen (Debbie) Brown, of Tucson, AZ and Linda
 (Rusty Depe) Brown, of Colby; siblings, Shirley Hankins, of Richland, 
WA, Elizabeth Ann (Jim) Rogers, of Cheney, WA, Richard (Barbara) 
Williams, of North Little Rock, AK; stepsisters, Vick (Ted) Rychlik, of 
Ft. Myers, FL and Dixie Leddon, of Las Vegas, NV; 8 grandchildren,

Marjorie Lee Brown (Williams)

Terry Allen Adams, 70, of Bogue, Kansas, died July 5, 2021, in Kearney, 
Nebraska. He was born August 4, 1950, in Marysville, California to 
Lawrence and JoAnn (Frazier) Adams. With family ties to Bogue and Hill 
City, the family made their way back to Graham County. Terry attended 
Hill City Grade School and graduated from Hill City High School in 1968.
 Following graduation, Terry attended the Northwest Area 
Vocational/Technical School. 
 Terry lived in Florida for many years. It was also his home base as 
he traveled the world setting up and managing casinos. Family ties were 
very important to Terry. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren, 
and great-grandchildren. 
 When Terry’s father died in 2017, he returned to Bogue and 
established his home there. Terry loved hanging out with his cousins, 
hunting, or working cattle, and he was always up for a round or two of 
golf. Drinking coffee with his “church buddies” Monday through Saturday 
was a standard gathering. However, in Terry’s words, “Never on Sunday.”&nbsp;There were many days when he would just jump on his Harley and enjoy 
the changing scenes of Kansas.
 	In 2018 Terry began working in the maintenance department at Dawson
 Place Nursing Home. Many of the residents so enjoyed seeing him and 
visiting with him. The longer he worked there, the more he wanted to 
work directly with the residents. Therefore, he enrolled in the CNA 
program and just recently earned his CNA license. Terry was preceded in 
death by his parents and stillborn siblings. Leaving to mourn his 
passing are his immediate family, extended family, and many friends.

Terry Allen Adams

John Ronald&nbsp;Squire, age 87, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the St. 
Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on July 3, 2021,&nbsp; in Syracuse, Kansas, the son of William A and Rosa Fulton Squire.

He was a member of the Bible Christian Church in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; Ron worked for the Kansas Department of Water Resources.

After graduation of high school Ron worked on the family farm before serving his country in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to Lola Brownlee on June 9, 1957, at the 
Burdett Methodist Church in Burdett, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death 
on October 19, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and one brother.

John Ronald Squire

Mary Lynn Cole, 84, passed away July 4, 2021, in Burdett.

She was born April 29, 1937, in Rio Grande Valley, Texas, the daughter of Jeahne Franklin and Minnie Mae Doss Oldham.

A longtime resident of Medicine Lodge, she was of the Southern 
Baptist faith. She worked with her husband, Fred, as an in-home 
contractor and was a member of Quilters Club in Medicine Lodge. She 
enjoyed quilting, cross stitch, reading and gardening.

On June 1, 1990, she married Fred Cole at Medicine Lodge; he preceded her in death on May 1, 2011.

Survivors include: one granddaughter, SonJA (Richard) Foos, Burdett; 
five great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two daughters, Kathy Grimm, DiAnne Hyman-Lee; and three brothers.

Memorial graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Isabel Cemetery, Isabel, Kansas with Pastor Tom Walters presiding. &nbsp;

 </figure>Mary Lynn Cole, 84, passed away July 4, 2021, in Burdett.She was born April 29, 1937, in Rio Grande Valley, Texas, the daughter of Jeahne Franklin and Minnie Mae Doss Oldham.A longtime resident of Medicine Lodge, she was of the Southern 
Baptist faith. She worked with her husband, Fred, as an in-home 
contractor and was a member of Quilters Club in Medicine Lodge. She 
enjoyed quilting, cross stitch, reading and gardening.On June 1, 1990, she married Fred Cole at Medicine Lodge; he preceded her in death on May 1, 2011.Survivors include: one granddaughter, SonJA (Richard) Foos, Burdett; 
five great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two daughters, Kathy Grimm, DiAnne Hyman-Lee; and three brothers.Memorial graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Isabel Cemetery, Isabel, Kansas with Pastor Tom Walters presiding. &nbsp;Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Disabled

Mary Lynn Cole

On June 25, 2021, Nelda Marie Resley, passed away peacefully in her 
sleep at the Main Street Manor of Russell. She was 95 years old. Nelda 
loved her family, many pets and living in her small town. Nelda was 
born on November 23, 1925, in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Forrest
 W. and Frances M. (Pritell) Leathers. She grew up in the El Dorado, 
Kansas, area until she was 12 moving to Oklahoma City, then to on to 
Russell, Kansas, where she was raised by her mother and aunt. She 
graduated from Russell High School Class of 1943, and after high school 
she attended Barton County Community College. She met, fell in love, and
 was united in marriage to Ralph William Resley on April 26, 1947, in 
Russell. From this union Nelda and Ralph were blessed with two children 
Roger and Linda.

She worked for the Home State Bank then Russell State Bank working as
 a bookkeeper and teller. Later she worked for the United Service 
Insurance Agency as an administrative assistant until she retired in 
1972. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church. She 
was also a member of the Elks Lodge, V.F.W. Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary,
 and the Russell Senior Center. She enjoyed sewing being a skilled 
seamstress, collecting sewing machines, bowling, and watching Kansas 
City Royals baseball. Most of all she was passionate about being a wife,
 mother, grandmother and homemaker and spending time with her large 
family. She and her husband Ralph worked tirelessly to provide 
opportunities for her children.

Surviving family include her son Roger Resley and wife Betty of 
Olathe, KS and daughter Linda Scott and husband Steven of Johnston, IA; 
Seven (7) grandchildren Susie, Sarah, Stacey, Nicole, Michelle (Shawnee 
&amp; Olathe, KS), Jamie ( San Anselmo, CA) and Tyler (Des Moines, IA); 
sixteen (16) great grandchildren Sophia, Anthony, Sylvia, Savannah, 
Sydney, Ayden, Austin, Shaylee, Bodee, Briggs, Hannah, Carson, Emsley, 
Merryn, Malynn, and Brecklynn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ralph on March 30, 2015.

Celebration of Nelda’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 
15, 2021 at the First Congregational Church of Russell. Burial will 
follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 
AM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler

Nelda Resley

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 1:30 PM, July 10th, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Paradise, Kansas.

Mary
 E. (Strecker) Anderson was born on Dec 31, 1936, at the family farm 
south of Paradise, Kansas, to Ernest and Eva (Weller) Strecker. She 
passed on March 26th, 2021. Mary was the oldest of four children: her 
sister Kay and brothers Al and Glen. She graduated from Paradise Rural 
High School in 1954 and married Jay Anderson. They later divorced. Mary 
raised her family in Oberlin, Kansas, working as a bookkeeper, taking 
community college classes when possible, and staying busy with community
 groups, including Eastern Star and 4-H.

Mary
 was a multi-talented woman. She originally majored in Art and Home 
Economics when she first went to college, all while raising children and
 working. She created beautiful art, had tremendous skills as a 
seamstress, and loved to cook gourmet meals. In the ‘70s, Mary became a
 broker for EF Hutton. Although women had only been able to legally have
 credit cards in their own name a few years earlier, she began a women’s
 investment club to teach women about stocks and how to invest. She 
served on the school board for USD 294 in Oberlin for twelve years, with
 four of those years as President.

When
 her children were grown, Mary went back to school. She graduated from 
Fort Hays State University in 1985 with a degree in Accounting, and 
passed the Certified Public Accountant Exam on her first attempt. She 
purchased an accounting and tax practice in Osborne, Kansas, and grew 
the small, one-CPA firm to several locations and 17 employees. She was 
the second woman in Kansas to have her own freestanding CPA firm. Her 
knowledge of finance, investment, business and personal affairs was 
widely sought.&nbsp; &nbsp;Banks would often send Mary clients that were in 
financial trouble, as they knew she would teach them how to manage their
 finances. Mary went above and beyond for her clients and loved helping 
them.

Mary
 was active in the Osborne community and surrounding areas for many 
years. She was in Osborne Rotary and served as President, volunteered 
for the annual Paradise Hunters Feed, and was involved in other 
community activities. She served as Treasurer of the Smoky Hills Public 
Television Board for over 30 years, and was highly respected among the 
board members. In 2018, Mary sold the bulk of her CPA firm and moved 
back to Hays to run the small office she had there. She enjoyed working 
with the Hays Arts Council and loved attending diverse artistic and 
performance events as well.

Mary
 also took time to enjoy life. She was an excellent bridge player and 
loved teaching her skills to others. She travelled widely, including 
backpacking through Europe at 52-years old; visiting her daughter in New
 Zealand; traveling across Eastern Canada by train; and then in her most
 recent trip, completing the journey by train across the western half. 
She was a committed fan of K-State athletics, especially football, even 
before the school’s later successes.&nbsp; 
Mary was much beloved by her grandchildren. She shared her love of art 
and the world with them, reading them Kipling as young children and 
cooking them her famous paella, a dish she had learned from a Spanish 
exchange student she once hosted. She showed them that a love of family,
 community, and honest work are all part of a life well-lived.

Mary
 was highly respected across northwest Kansas for her knowledge and 
professionalism. She was thoughtful, kind, and very, very well-loved.&nbsp; 
Mary will be remembered for her generous heart, helpful nature, and 
determination.&nbsp;

Mary
 is survived by three daughters who adore her: Jill Reichert and her 
husband Wilbur of Oberlin; Amy Anderson and Mark Webster of Oklahoma 
City; and Jane Anderson. She also leaves behind her much loved 
grandsons:&nbsp; Grant Reichert of Wenatchee, Washington; Gannon and Mary 
Reichert, of Oberlin; and Gage and Cole Reichert of Oberlin. She is also
 survived by four great-grandsons: Conner, Creo, Dean and Owen Reichert.
 Mary will be greeted by her grandson Gatlin Reichert, her parents, and 
her brother Al Strecker, beyond this world.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rosita Mae (Herman) Augustine, age 79, 
passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, in Greeley, CO. She was born October 
6, 1941, in Hays, KS to August and Mary (Kisner) Herman Sr. She attended 
Ellis High School and married the love of her life Robert Augustine on 
June 7, 1958, in Ellis at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Rosita was a homemaker who loved 
cooking and baking. She enjoyed playing cards especially pinochle and 
spending time with her family. Rosita was a member of St. Mary’s 
Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are 
her five children: Stacy Befort (Steve), Ellis, KS; Robert 
(Bob) Augustine Jr. (Dorreen), Marlow, Buckinghamshire, England; Donna 
Behring (Craig); Flower Mound, TX; Lonny Augustine (Tina), Eaton, CO; 
and Kevin Augustine (Kathy), Billings MT; two brothers, George Herman of

Lillian was an accomplished seamstress.&nbsp; She made many items including wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses.&nbsp; She also did house and business cleaning.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Tom McMahon of South Jordan, Utah; Son-in-law Paul Luea of Ellis; brother-in-law Lawrence Locker of Ellis; four grandsons, Sean McMahon and wife Ashleigh, Jason Luea and wife Samantha, Jonas Luea and Joseph McMahon; eight great grandchildren; Laura Berry, Laurenne Fraser, Zayn McMahon, Abby Luea, Teag McMahon; Jacob Luea, Keyan McMahon and Jonathon Luea; niece Jessica Smith and four nephews, Larry, John, Steve, and Tom Locker.

Lillian Locker

Ronald M. Chesney, 72, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away after an extended battle with cancer Monday, July 5, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Ronnie was born March 13, 1949, in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;He was one of five sons born to Homer Bruce and Eileen (Meyers) Chesney. &nbsp;He grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of 1968. &nbsp;He has lived all of his life in the Natoma area.

Ronnie worked for Master’s Oil Company in the tire department for over 20 years. &nbsp;He enjoyed working with his hands and was great with a welder. He also helped local farmers as a farmhand.

Ronnie enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends. He had a special love for horses, especially “Sonny Jo” who was with him for over 30 years. &nbsp;Ronnie always said “There wasn’t a horse he couldn’t ride”.

Ronnie’s surviving family includes&nbsp;two brothers, Larry Chesney of Natoma, Kansas and Earl Chesney of Natoma, Kansas; four nieces and two nephews.

Ronnie was&nbsp;preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bruce Chesney and Everett Chesney.

Celebration of Ronnie’s Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday, July 12, 2021, at Natoma United Methodist Church. &nbsp;A private burial will follow the services. &nbsp;Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Monday at the Church with the family present to greet friends. &nbsp;

Ronald M. Chesney

On June 25, 2021, Nelda Marie Resley passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Main Street Manor of Russell.&nbsp; She was 95 years old. Nelda loved her family, many pets and living in her small town. &nbsp;

Nelda was born on November 23, 1925, in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Forrest W. and Frances M. (Pritell) Leathers.&nbsp; She grew up in the El Dorado, Kansas, area until she was 12 moving to Oklahoma City, then to on to Russell, Kansas, where she was raised by her mother and aunt.&nbsp; She graduated from Russell High School Class of 1943, and after high school she attended Barton County Community College.&nbsp; She met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Ralph William Resley on April 26, 1947, in Russell.&nbsp; From this union Nelda and Ralph were blessed with two children Roger and Linda. &nbsp;

She worked for the Home State Bank then Russell State Bank working as a bookkeeper and teller.&nbsp; Later she worked for the United Service Insurance Agency as an administrative assistant until she retired in 1972.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church.&nbsp; She was also a member of the Elks Lodge, V.F.W. Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Russell Senior Center.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing being a skilled seamstress, collecting sewing machines, bowling, and watching Kansas City Royals baseball.&nbsp; Most of all she was passionate about being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker and spending time with her large family. She and her husband Ralph worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for her children.

Surviving family include her son Roger Resley and wife Betty of Olathe, KS and daughter Linda Scott and husband Steven of Johnston, IA; Seven grandchildren Susie, Sarah, Stacey, Nicole, Michelle (Shawnee &amp; Olathe, KS), Jamie ( San Anselmo, CA) and Tyler (Des Moines, IA);&nbsp; 16 great grandchildren Sophia, Anthony, Sylvia, Savannah, Sydney, Ayden, Austin, Shaylee, Bodee, Briggs, Hannah, Carson, Emsley, Merryn, Malynn, and Brecklynn. &nbsp;

Nelda Marie Resley

Joyce Louise Niederee, 88, passed away on July 6, 2021, in her 
birthplace of Larned. She was born November 30, 1932, to Albert and Mary
 (Strecker) Schartz.

A Great Bend resident since 1960, Joyce worked at the Retired Senior 
Volunteer Program from 2008 until she retired in 2012 coordinating 
fellow volunteers to help those in need. She had previously worked for 
Wildegen &amp; Smith Attorneys, Mutual of Omaha and was a secretary in 
the Athletic Department at Barton Community College. She was a member of
 Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, 
Medical Auxiliary, and PEO.&nbsp;

Joyce was most proud of her five sons who blessed her with many 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As her family grew, she was 
committed to keeping her own family traditions alive and building a 
foundation for her extended family to form enduring bonds of their own. 
When Joyce wasn’t present at one of her grandchildren’s many activities 
or praying for those who were ill at the hospital, she was often found 
tending to her roses, vegetable garden, and impeccably manicured lawn.

Survivors include five sons, Michael Niederee and wife Laura of 
Winfield, Dr. David Niederee and wife Cindy of Derby, Dr. William "Bill"
 Niederee and wife Robin of Great Bend, Thomas "Tom" Niederee and wife 
Dr. Laurie of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dr. Mark Niederee and wife Myra 
of Wichita; a brother, A.W. "Bill" Schartz, Jr. of Larned; two sisters, 
Jane Bahr and husband Marvin of Kansas City, Mo., and Eileen Weiss and 
husband John of Lawrence; fourteen grandchildren, Amanda Eilders (Cole),
 Dr. Jessica Katzfey, DMD (Dr. Thomas), Hannah Holovach (Blake), Ben 
Niederee (Catie), Joe Niederee (Maura), Amy Niederee, Katlyn Rosborough

Joyce Louise Niederee

Leland Dale Squier passed away peacefully on the evening of June 29th, 2021 in Asheville, North Carolina surrounded by his family. At the time of his death Leland was 73 years old. His death was a result of complications from an accidental fall.&nbsp; 
 
Leland was born in Ransom, Kansas, on March 23, 1948. Parents were Gale F. Squier and Ruby L. Squier. Surviving siblings are Gale D. Squier (with wife Kay in Lincoln, NE), Luella Barber (with husband Don in Hays, KS), and Vern Squier (with wife Chris in Bellefonte, PA).&nbsp;

He was married to Barbara Pritchett (Marshallville, GA) in 1976. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barb Squier, his children; Michelle Allison (with husband Jason in Asheville, NC) and Bradford Squier (with wife Lindsey in Boulder, CO) and one grandson, Curran Squier.&nbsp; 
 
Lee was part of a family farming operation in the Brownell, Kansas, area.&nbsp; After graduating college, Leland moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to begin his family and his career as a geotechnical engineer. He and a fellow engineer formed a company in 1980. Leland retired in 2003 and the firm is still thriving.&nbsp; 
 
The family suggests helping farmers by donating to the Ness County Farm Bureau Association at P.O. Box 528, Ness City, KS, 67560 and/or celebrating Lee's love of food by patronizing a locally owned restaurant in his honor.&nbsp; 
 
A Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date (TBD).

Leland 'Lee' Dale Squier

Don M. Palmer, 76, of Topeka, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021.

He was born May 12, 1944, in Great 
Bend, Kansas, the son of Harold and Edith (Hunsley) Palmer. He was a 
1962 graduate of Hays High School, a 1969 graduate of Fort Hays State 
University and received a Master's Degree from Kansas State University 
in 1970. He was a Screaming Eagle member of the U.S. Army, 101st 
Airborne Division.

Don was employed by the State of Kansas Division of Workers Compensation, retiring in 2011.

Don married Janet Pechanec on April 1, 
1967, in Hays, Kansas. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include 
two children, Jenny M. (Chris) Wilson of Overland Park, KS and Todd M. 
(Stacy) Palmer of Wamego, KS; three grandchildren, Noah M. Wilson, 
Zachary L. Wilson and Austin L. Wilson; and his twin brother, Lon R. 
(Ann) Palmer of Hoisington, KS; his brother, Paul E. (Sue) Palmer of 
Kansas City, KS; and his furry companions, Charlie and Lilli.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Douglas Palmer; and his sister, Polly Colony.

Don was an avid golfer, wishing he was 
related to Arnold Palmer. He loved Drum Corp International, had multiple
 collections, and after retiring, enjoyed the Covered Wagons motorhome 
group.

Honoring his request, cremation is 
planned. Private inurnment will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, KS. In

Don M. Palmer

David Ross Ward came into this life on September 13, 1949. He was the 
son of Max Griffith Ward and Norma Lee Sebaugh Ward. On July 2, 2021, 
he passed suddenly from this world to be joined with his heavenly 
family.
 Dave was the older brother to his sisters, Julie (Ken) Carter, 
Shelley (Patrick) McKenna and Lori (Terry) Wycoff. Maybe having little 
sisters is why he was such a sweet little boy. His teacher told that he
 was the only boy in first grade at Clayton grade school. The little 
girl’s feelings would be hurt if they didn’t get to sit by him so he 
would take turns sitting by each of them. He attended Jennings High 
School and graduated in May of 1966. While in high school, David was 
active in all sports and activities offered.
 After graduation Dave went to Fort Hays State college. When he left
 for college his dad told him, “Don’t let your school work interfere 
your education” He may have taken this more to heart than his parents 
expected. He left college in 1968 to join the Army during the Viet Nam 
war. He had lost his lifelong childhood friend to the war and felt it 
was his duty to give honor to him by enlisting and fighting for his 
country. Dave earned the rank of Sergeant, was awarded the Bronze Star 
with Valor and earned but wasn’t awarded the Purple Heart for wounds 
received in combat. 
 After returning from Vietnam Dave worked for Hackney Trucking until 
achieving his dream in December of 1973 purchasing his farm southeast of
 Clayton. Dave was blessed to have a mentor and friend in Wayne and 
Lilly Haney just down the road. He loved owning and operating his farm 
but loved ranching most of all. 
 Dave married Laura (now Gilhousen) in 1975 and welcomed into his 
life not just a wife, but a son, Gary Joseph (Little Joe) Lorimor. The 
following year in February of 1976 Dave became a father once again when 
Jacob Max and Jarrod Blaine were born in the Norton Hospital. Having a 
healthy son was great news, having two was both a blessing and a very 
big surprise! In December of 1977 Dave was blessed once again with a 
beautiful baby girl, Jodi Lee Ward.
 Dave was an active member of his community and his church. It was a
 rare thing for Dave to miss Sunday School or Church service. An active
 member of the Church, the American Legion, Norton Co. Honor Hunt, 
caretaker for the Clayton Cemetery, 4-H parent and supporter, and many 
other activities that gave him joy, he even served as mayor of Clayton. 
 When asked about taking on some of his ancillary responsibilities Dave 
would just grin and say “Someone has to do it.”
 He was an attentive grandpa to his eight grandchildren. The road 
trips to attend sporting events, programs and Grandparents Day were a 
part of being a grandpa he loved. Dave loved his grandkids and made 
every effort to attend whatever they had going wherever it was. 
 David passed from this life doing what he loved, being out among the
 fields, checking cattle and loving this beautiful country the Lord 
made. He liked his alone time. He lived his life his way and always 
counted his blessings for the love of family and friends.
 Dave was predeceased by his parents, Max and Norma Ward; his 
paternal grandparents, Ross and Stella Ward and Ross’s second wife, 
Gladys; and his maternal grandparents, Walter and Margaret Sebaugh.
 Those left to mourn and to celebrate his life are his children, Gary
 Joseph Lorimor II, Wichita, Jacob (Krisha) Ward, Maple Grove, 
Minnesota; Jarrod (Eugene) Ward, Brisbane, Australia, and Jodi (Chris) 
Cox. Grandchildren who will feel the loss of their Grandpa Dave, are 
Ryan Allen Lorimor, Wichita, Kansas, Alexis Nicole Lorimor, Manhattan, 
Zoe Chanel Cox, Elkhorn, Nebraska, Tharen Roy Cox, Braxton Ellanor Cox, 
Jason Troy Cox, Audrey Lillian Bina and Augustus Max Cox, of Norton. 
 You will always be loved, missed and in our hearts.

 </figure>David Ross Ward came into this life on September 13, 1949. He was the 
son of Max Griffith Ward and Norma Lee Sebaugh Ward. On July 2, 2021, 
he passed suddenly from this world to be joined with his heavenly 
family.
 Dave was the older brother to his sisters, Julie (Ken) Carter, 
Shelley (Patrick) McKenna and Lori (Terry) Wycoff. Maybe having little 
sisters is why he was such a sweet little boy. His teacher told that he
 was the only boy in first grade at Clayton grade school. The little 
girl’s feelings would be hurt if they didn’t get to sit by him so he 
would take turns sitting by each of them. He attended Jennings High 
School and graduated in May of 1966. While in high school, David was 
active in all sports and activities offered.
 After graduation Dave went to Fort Hays State college. When he left
 for college his dad told him, “Don’t let your school work interfere 
your education” He may have taken this more to heart than his parents 
expected. He left college in 1968 to join the Army during the Viet Nam 
war. He had lost his lifelong childhood friend to the war and felt it 
was his duty to give honor to him by enlisting and fighting for his 
country. Dave earned the rank of Sergeant, was awarded the Bronze Star 
with Valor and earned but wasn’t awarded the Purple Heart for wounds 
received in combat. 
 After returning from Vietnam Dave worked for Hackney Trucking until 
achieving his dream in December of 1973 purchasing his farm southeast of
 Clayton. Dave was blessed to have a mentor and friend in Wayne and 
Lilly Haney just down the road. He loved owning and operating his farm 
but loved ranching most of all. 
 Dave married Laura (now Gilhousen) in 1975 and welcomed into his 
life not just a wife, but a son, Gary Joseph (Little Joe) Lorimor. The 
following year in February of 1976 Dave became a father once again when 
Jacob Max and Jarrod Blaine were born in the Norton Hospital. Having a 
healthy son was great news, having two was both a blessing and a very 
big surprise! In December of 1977 Dave was blessed once again with a 
beautiful baby girl, Jodi Lee Ward.
 Dave was an active member of his community and his church. It was a
 rare thing for Dave to miss Sunday School or Church service. An active
 member of the Church, the American Legion, Norton Co. Honor Hunt, 
caretaker for the Clayton Cemetery, 4-H parent and supporter, and many 
other activities that gave him joy, he even served as mayor of Clayton. 
 When asked about taking on some of his ancillary responsibilities Dave 
would just grin and say “Someone has to do it.”
 He was an attentive grandpa to his eight grandchildren. The road 
trips to attend sporting events, programs and Grandparents Day were a 
part of being a grandpa he loved. Dave loved his grandkids and made 
every effort to attend whatever they had going wherever it was. 
 David passed from this life doing what he loved, being out among the
 fields, checking cattle and loving this beautiful country the Lord 
made. He liked his alone time. He lived his life his way and always 
counted his blessings for the love of family and friends.
 Dave was predeceased by his parents, Max and Norma Ward; his 
paternal grandparents, Ross and Stella Ward and Ross’s second wife, 
Gladys; and his maternal grandparents, Walter and Margaret Sebaugh.
 Those left to mourn and to celebrate his life are his children, Gary
 Joseph Lorimor II, Wichita, Jacob (Krisha) Ward, Maple Grove, 
Minnesota; Jarrod (Eugene) Ward, Brisbane, Australia, and Jodi (Chris) 
Cox. Grandchildren who will feel the loss of their Grandpa Dave, are 
Ryan Allen Lorimor, Wichita, Kansas, Alexis Nicole Lorimor, Manhattan, 
Zoe Chanel Cox, Elkhorn, Nebraska, Tharen Roy Cox, Braxton Ellanor Cox, 
Jason Troy Cox, Audrey Lillian Bina and Augustus Max Cox, of Norton.
