Kuper Eugene Jones was born August 21, 1983, in Colby, Kansas, 
surrounded by friends, family and a world of love. He started his 
journey of life fighting, born premature, weighing in at just 4 pounds 8
 ounces. The day after making his appearance, he was sent to face open 
heart surgery head on. This is when Kup first showed the world his 
heart- it being only comparable to that of a lion. Kuper carried this 
heart on his chest from his first breath to his last. We can all attest 
to that. Even before the first grade Kuper tackled Guillain-Barre that 
had him paralyzed from the eyes down. He was bound and determined to 
show that heart again, proving countless people wrong, when he walked to
 his first day of school. 
Kuper was a lover of all things, but mostly all things sports. This 
passion was inherited from his grandparents, Harold and Grace Jones, and
 helped to shape Kuper into the “well of sports knowledge” that he 
ultimately became. Kuper was not afraid of anything. Period. He was 
certainly not afraid of making sure everyone knew what his favorite 
teams were and why. Kuper had a steady stream of defensive talk backing 
his Cleveland Browns. If you were to ask Kup before any football season 
he'd tell you to “look out for them Brownies this year, this is going to
 be their year!” Kuper loved sports so much that after obtaining his 
general education, he further pursued journalism on his journey to 
becoming a part of, and documenting, any kind of competition. Along with
 being a very charismatic and handsome fella, Kuper always had a way 
with words. He was an amazing sports broadcaster and showed his 
versatility when proving he could call not only basketball (his 
passion), but football, wrestling, and volleyball, to name a few. 
Kuper also loved being a coach. He played a huge role in creating the 
sports animal we all know and love, his son Dominik. Kuper coached Dom 
in countless basketball games, in which he gave no favoritism. Kuper 
made sure to teach Dom the triangle offense before the kid knew his 
ABC’s! Dominik is on his way to a full-ride playing basketball and 
Kuper, we know, would be so proud. He loved being able to be a part of 
his community in helping to raise these young athletes to their fullest 
potential. Kuper saw greatness in games and individuals that only one 
with passion could catalogue. 
Kuper also carried with him a passion for music. As an adolescent he 
tried his hand at the guitar and the trumpet before realizing that his 
niche would be in rap. Kuper was an amazing songwriter and was well on 
his way to making hip hop interesting again. Kuper was not afraid to 
steal the show. He loved to perform whether it be in the backyard in 
front of the dog or on a stage in front of a crowd acting a fool. 
Kuper was not afraid of having a good time, and if he was having a good 
time, that meant the same for the people around him. Kuper loved, and he
 showed that love in a funny way sometimes, but Kuper was a caring soul.
 He was able to make one feel comfort when nobody else's words could 
even be heard. He never judged for, “He who is without sin is the one 
who can cast the first stone.” Kuper Eugene Jones left this physical 
world on August 6, 2021. 
He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Harold Eugene Jones (his 
hero) and his uncle Donald Eugene Jones. He is survived by his son 
Dominik Eugene Jones; his grandmother Grace Irene Jones; his mother 
Linda Hubert; sisters, Tammi Parks and Kat Wright; brothers, Boone Huff,
 Shane Huff, Chris Hubert and Joe Schwerbert and a host of aunts, 
uncles, cousins and a large number of friends. He will never be 
forgotten.

Phillipsburg resident Donald O. Young, age 89, passed away at his home on August 4, 2021.

Donald was born February 5, 1932, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the son of Lloyd R. and Catherine (McDonald) Young.

In 1950, Donald joined the United States Marine Corps and was 
honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1954. &nbsp;He worked for many years as a
 court appointed officer for the Department of Child Support Services in
 San Bernardino County, California.&nbsp; He retired in 1985.

Don spent most of his retirement years on his boat in Roche Harbor on
 San Jaun Island in San Juan County, Washington.&nbsp; He loved sailing and 
traveling to visit his children.&nbsp; In 2015, while visiting his son Dean, 
he decided to purchase a house in Phillipsburg, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Catherine; sister 
Carolynda Erskine; a son Cole Young; and two daughters Teresa Garrison 
and Linda Swift.

Survivors include two sons Dean Young and wife Wanda of Brookings, OR
 and Michael R. Young of Coeur d’Alene, ID; 3 grandchildren; 2 
step-grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 7 step great grandchildren.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; At Donald’s request, no services are planned.

Martha Lou “Marty” Brooks (nee Lewis), 84, was born in Cape Girardeau, 
Mo., to William and Linda Lewis. She attended Trinity Lutheran School 
and Central High School before earning an Associate of Arts degree in 
1958 from St. John’s College, Winfield, KS.
 In 1961, she married M. Thomas Brooks, who was a student at 
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. While there, she taught at Ebenezer 
Lutheran School and again at Trinity Lutheran School in Santa Ana, CA, 
during Brooks’s vicarage or internship.
 In Rev. Brooks’s 36-year ministry in churches in Missouri and 
Kansas, Marty worked as a nurses’ aide and in a pediatric clinic. Her 
primary concern, however, was always her family, her church and those 
she met. Her engaging personality helped her reach out to others, making
 a friend by being a friend. 
 When Rev. Brooks retired in 2000, the couple moved to Forsyth, MO, 
where they lived in a beautiful lakeside home. In 2018 they moved to 
Wichita, KS, to be closer to their children.
 The couple was blessed with and is survived by three children: Mary 
Liz (Bruce) Brittain of Andover, KS; Paul (Tonya) of Archer City, TX; 
and Matthew (Krista) of Hays, KS; eight grandchildren: Evan Brittain, 
Hanna (Jake) Huber; Jacey, Jahna and Tessa Brooks; Tommy, Nathaniel and 
Jayne Brooks; her sister Mary (Tom) Schaefer; one niece, Jami (Nathan) 
Cuka; and one nephew, Joel (Amy) Schaefer.
 Marty died Aug. 7, 2021. A loving spouse, mother and grandmother, 
Marty was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and strong supporter of
 her family and church. Her life was a fulfillment of Proverbs 3:5-6: 
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own 
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your 
paths straight.”
 Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Gloria Dei 
Lutheran Church, 1101 N. River Blvd., Wichita. Memorials can be made to 
Gloria Dei and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS

Charles "Chuck" or "Charlie" Raymond Frank, 89, of 
Salina went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday July 14, 2021. 
Chuck was born September 30, 1931, in Hays, KS to the late Joseph Samuel 
and the late Mary Rose (Schumacher) Frank.

He married Norma Marie Hickert on April19, 1954, at New Almelo, KS.

Chuck was an Airman for the U.S. Marine Corp, Air Wing, Cherry Point,
 NC. He was assigned to duties aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea in the 
Mediterranean Sea and the U.S.S Bennington off the coast of Cuba. &nbsp;

Chuck was the vice president of J.S. Frank Construction in Salina, a 
project manager for Turnmar Construction Co. in Englewood, CO and a 
project manager for Cherokee General Contractors, Inc. in Denver, CO. 
Additionally he was a self-employed general contractor in Aurora, CO and
 an estimator and field superintendent for Western Property Management 
Co. in Denver, CO.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, Salina; son, Richard, Lenora, KS; 
daughter Gretchen (Gene) Browning, Huntsville, TX; son Jerry (Greta), 
Salina; daughter Angela (Len) York Crane, Philadelphia, PA. 
Grandchildren Russell York, Charles York (Sophie Lipman), Joshua 
(Courtney) York, Brandy Frank (Tim Elder). Great grandson Levi 
Faulhaber. Sisters Jenny Keeler, Salina; MaryJo Schuster, Sheboygan, WI 
and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Frank; his 
parents J.S. and Mary Frank; his brothers Francis and Leroy; his sisters
 Edna, Delores and Margaret.

Charles Raymond Frank

Timothy Clay Null, age 65, of Salina, KS, passed 
away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 6, 2021. Tim was born on
 April 12, 1956, in WaKeeney, KS and is the son of Lewis “Jack” Null, 
Peggy Null (Hildebrand), Benjamin Koralek, and Lillian Koralek (Choitz).
 A 1972 graduate of Ellsworth High School, Tim went on to proudly serve 
in the United States Marine Corps. Tim was a lineman for KP&amp;L before
 retiring as a Distribution Systems Operator for Westar Energy.

Tim married the love of his life, Carla J. Null (Kohls) on August 21,
 1976, in Ellsworth, KS. Tim and Carla had two children, Erin and Andrew.

To know Tim, was to love him. Tim’s eyes sparkled with every smile 
and he had an infectious laugh that easily made the day better. Tim 
enjoyed woodworking, sewing, tinkering, being his grandkids biggest 
cheerleader, joking, finishing up that “one last thing” (project he was 
working on), cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and loving his family. 
Tim never knew a stranger and told everyone who would listen about his 
grandkids, who are his pride and joy. Tim devoted his life to his wife, 
children, and grandchildren, whom he adored and cherished. Tim stood 
firm in his faith and lived his life for Jesus.

Tim is survived by his wife, Carla of the home; his daughter, Erin 
(Pinson) and son-in-law Chad of Lyons, KS; his son, Andrew and 
daughter-in-law Miriam of Colorado Springs, CO; and his grandchildren: 
Willow, Blake, Dharma, Mallory, and Eloise. He is also survived by his 
brother, Pat Null (Teresa); sister, Lonnie Soukup (Donald); brother, 
Chant Koralek; brother, Dave Koralek (Marge); brother-in-law, Scott 
Kohls (Barb); sister-in-law/nephew, Angela and Joshua Kohls; many 
nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers who were very special to him.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Jack Null; his dad and mom, 
Ben and Lil Koralek; his mother-in-law, Lois Kohls; his brother-in-law, 
Craig Kohls; his brother, Mike Null; and his sister-in-law, Gladys 
Koralek.

in the United States Marine Corps. Tim was a lineman for KP&amp;L before
 retiring as a Distribution Systems Operator for Westar Energy.Tim married the love of his life, Carla J. Null (Kohls) on August 21,
 1976, in Ellsworth, KS. Tim and Carla had two children, Erin and Andrew.To know Tim, was to love him. Tim’s eyes sparkled with every smile 
and he had an infectious laugh that easily made the day better. Tim 
enjoyed woodworking, sewing, tinkering, being his grandkids biggest 
cheerleader, joking, finishing up that “one last thing” (project he was 
working on), cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and loving his family. 
Tim never knew a stranger and told everyone who would listen about his 
grandkids, who are his pride and joy. Tim devoted his life to his wife, 
children, and grandchildren, whom he adored and cherished. Tim stood 
firm in his faith and lived his life for Jesus.Tim is survived by his wife, Carla of the home; his daughter, Erin 
(Pinson) and son-in-law Chad of Lyons, KS; his son, Andrew and 
daughter-in-law Miriam of Colorado Springs, CO; and his grandchildren: 
Willow, Blake, Dharma, Mallory, and Eloise. He is also survived by his 
brother, Pat Null (Teresa); sister, Lonnie Soukup (Donald); brother, 
Chant Koralek; brother, Dave Koralek (Marge); brother-in-law, Scott 
Kohls (Barb); sister-in-law/nephew, Angela and Joshua Kohls; many 
nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers who were very special to him.Tim was preceded in death by his father, Jack Null; his dad and mom,

Charlene Ann Weigel (formerly Charlene Walters), 91,
 of Salina, was born to Joseph and Mary Walters on March 10, 1930, in 
Hays, Kansas passed away peacefully on August 9, 2021.

She was married to her sweetheart, Donald Gene Weigel (deceased) for 
63 years. They had four children, Kathleen Weigel of Topeka, Karen Beil 
of Olathe, Donald M Weigel of Hutchinson, and Dennis Weigel of Salina. 
She leaves behind nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Joann (Hammerschmidt) Shapiro, 79, formerly of Hays, passed away July 23, 2021 in Orange County, California.

Born March 13, 1942 to Eugene and Amelia Hammerschmidt of Hays, Joann grew up on their farm north of Hays where she was active in the Buckeye community and 4-H. Following graduation from Girls Catholic High School, she received her cosmetology license and worked at Blanche’s Salon until moving to California in the late 1960s where she met and married Jerome Shapiro. She eventually owned her own salon in the Orange County area until she retired. Joann was avid for crafts and enjoyed sewing.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Dennis, and sister Lila Schippers and brother-in-law Norman Schippers, and a nephew Daniel Hammerschmidt. 

She is survived by her son William (Jenny) and two special granddaughters Jessica and Jayden, brothers Wayne (Marilee) of Galesburg, Illinois, Neil (Carolyn) of Bloomington, Indiana, and Mark (Bernice) of Hays, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family and friends were privileged to know her spirit of generosity and kindness, and her joy of living life to its fullest.

Irma C. Staab, 89, Catharine, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at HaysMed.

She
 was born July 30, 1932 ,in Catharine, the daughter of Albert C. and 
Cherubim (Giebler) Staab.&nbsp; Irma devoted her whole life to the Catholic 
Church.&nbsp; She was a part-time housekeeper for the Capuchins at St. Joseph
 Church in Hays for 20 years, cleaned the St. Catherine Catholic Church 
for 20 years, and was the first CCD teacher in the St. Catherine parish 
after the nuns left.&nbsp; Her memberships included:&nbsp; St. Catherine Catholic 
Church, the St. Catherine Altar Society Christian Mothers, and the 
Secular Franciscan Order of Victoria.&nbsp; On April 23, 2003, the Capuchins 
affiliated her to the Order of Friars Minor and the Capuchin Province of
 Mid-America.&nbsp; She enjoyed Bingo, genealogy, old family photographs, and
 researching the Staab family heritage.

Survivors
 include three sisters: Mary Lang of Hays, Patricia A. Staab of Russell,
 and Roseann Seader of Louisville, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She
 was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Elmer Staab, 
Marion Staab, Roland Staab, and her twin brother Irwin Staab, and one 
sister: Arlene Clyncke.

Mass

Romine October 15, 1955, in Great Bend.&nbsp; James died June30,2020.

Rita, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, was a member of Prince of 
Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and 
the Altar Society.&nbsp; She was an active farm wife, and in her younger 
years, was employed by a Colonel as a secretary at Salina Air Force 
Base.&nbsp; Rita enjoyed reading, gardening, square dancing and playing 
pitch.

Survivors include two sons, Kent Romine and wife Valerie of Great 
Bend, and Kevin Romine and wife Tammy of Great Bend; one daughter, 
Marita Walls and husband Dan of Elkhart; son-in-law Paul Schneweis of 
Great Bend; and eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Melissa
 Tudor (Damian) and son Trace, Ashley Romine-Guerra (Izzy Guerra) and 
children Teegan, Raquel and Owen, Jessica Ferguson (Dustin) and children
 Grace and Hayden, Kirk Walls, Dr. James Walls (Lindsay), Lindsey White 
(Kendrick), Chad Romine (Taylor), and Ryan Romine.

Rita was preceded in passing by her husband James; one daughter,

Donna Kay Klusener, 64, passed away August 8, 2021, at Ellinwood 
District Hospital, Ellinwood.&nbsp; She was born March 16, 1957, in Ellinwood
 to Don and Margaret (Molder) Arnold.&nbsp; Donna married Curtis Klusener 
March 20, 1976, in Great Bend.&nbsp;

Donna, a life time resident of Ellinwood, was employed as an 
admission attendant and secretary for Ellinwood District Hospital.&nbsp; She 
was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as the secretary 
treasurer for Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsmen Club.&nbsp; Donna enjoyed arts and 
crafts, fishing and swimming.

Survivors include husband, Curtis Klusener, of the home; one son: 
Curtis Klusener, Jr. of Great Bend; two brothers, Terry Arnold of 
Weatherford, Texas; Patrick Schreck of Wichita, and step-father Maurice 
Schreck of Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in 
death by her parents.

crafts, fishing and swimming.Survivors include husband, Curtis Klusener, of the home; one son: 
Curtis Klusener, Jr. of Great Bend; two brothers, Terry Arnold of 
Weatherford, Texas; Patrick Schreck of Wichita, and step-father Maurice 
Schreck of Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in

Joaquina Hardon, beloved wife and mother passed away, with loved ones at
 her bedside, on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at age 89, following a brief 
illness. 
Joaquina was born on March 20, 1932, in Dexter, NM to Eutimio &amp; 
Maria Lopez. She grew up in a large family, on a farm, and graduated 
from Dexter High School in 1950. In New Mexico, she met and married 
Albert Hardon on June 5, 1967. Together they raised two daughters, 
Gloria and Amber, and son Carlos. 
Joaquina was always hard-working, but she also had a playful spirit, 
which brightened the lives of her family, friends and loved ones. They 
all have fond memories of her two-stepping through the living room, as 
she loved to dance. Life on the farm was what she preferred and keeping 
busy, knowing there was always something to be done. She was a hard 
worker whether it be in the home, in the garden or on the farm alongside
 her husband Albert. Driving a grain truck during the wheat harvest, 
driving truckloads of silage in the fall, and taking meals to the field 
were just a few of the things she enjoyed doing. 
Blessed with good health and strength, she enjoyed walking and 
maintained a 4 mile per day routine for many years and well into her 
eighties. She always called herself, “a jack of all trades and master of
 none.” However, those lucky enough to sit at her &amp; Albert’s dinner 
table soon realized her mastery of cooking &amp; homemaking. She was a 
dedicated wife &amp; mother, who always put her family first. In her 
spare time, she crocheted beautiful baby blankets for gifts, which 
graced many cribs. They are a tangible symbol of her love for all 
children.

Keith William Gnad, 61, of Overland Park, Kansas, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Advent Health, Shawnee Mission, Merriam, KS. He was born June 9, 1960, in Hays to Clarence and Janet L.&nbsp; (Morin) Gnad.

Keith graduated from Hoisington High School, class of 1978. During that time, Keith developed a passion for photography, becoming a member of the yearbook staff and winning several photography awards.&nbsp; Even prior to graduating he performed brick laying jobs, such as homes and fireplaces without any supervision.&nbsp; Following graduation, he worked as a mason for his uncle, Mike Gnad. Keith lived in Hays, Great Bend and Kansas City before settling in Little Rock, Arkansas where he formed his own successful company, Gnad Tile &amp; Masonry.&nbsp; In his free time, he worked as a photography teacher at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, focusing primarily on black and white photography.&nbsp;

the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He was born on September 13, 
1938, in Scott City, Kansas, the son of Edward Henry and Gertrude Mary 
Nienaber Knobbe.&nbsp; A resident of Marienthal, Kansas since 2006 moving 
from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.&nbsp; Arden was a licensed mortician before 
starting Knobbes Heating &amp; Air Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that 
he ran for over 30 years.

He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of 
Columbus both of Marienthal, Kansas, and was a US Air Force Veteran.

On November 25, 1961, he married Virginia F. Berning in Marienthal, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Virginia F. Knobbe of Marienthal, 
Kansas, Two Daughters - Leta &amp; Duane Berning of Leoti, Kansas, Rita 
Knobbe of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, One Brother - Edward &amp; Shirley

Larry Dale Montandon, 73, left this earth Sunday, April 5, 2020, at 
Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee. Larry was born to 
Virgil and Hazel (Grounds) Montandon in Liberal, Kansas, on January 11, 
1947. He grew up on a ranch near Wallace, Kansas, and enjoyed being a 
big brother to his three sisters.

In 1970, he married Evelyn Reust in Guymon, Oklahoma, and together 
they raised two daughters. He was the kind of father you looked up to. 
He was tough yet fair, stood for right and never walked away from a 
challenge.

Larry loved his family and his country and was a steadfast advocate 
for Veterans and proud to be one. He never knew a stranger, nor met a 
horse or dog he didn't like, including his beloved horse Poco and his 
dogs Snoopy and Labrusky. Throughout his life, he found peace riding 
horses, listening to the geese and observing our natural world. He loved
 traveling with Evelyn, exploring new restaurants and roads, and 
enjoying his back-porch view of the Smoky Mountains.

Larry wore many different hats, but one of his favorites was his 
cowboy hat. He farmed and ranched with Evelyn and his parents for nearly
 30 years, and that straw hat was atop his head often as he worked 
cattle or cut wheat. Larry was also proud to serve his nation and the 
men and women he led in the United States Armed Services, retiring as a 
Sergeant First Class in 1998. Larry was a Persian Gulf War veteran and a
 member of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Air Force Reserve, and Kansas 
National Guard.

He also served as a District Magistrate Judge in Northwest Kansas; 
Manager of Kansas Veterans Cemeteries in WaKeeney and Fort Dodge; 
Director of the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, and Director 
of the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, South 
Carolina.

Our cowboy and soldier has ridden off into the sunset and will be 
missed, but Larry just may be sitting on a porch with his loved ones and
 fellow Veterans, reunited and sharing stories.

Larry is survived by his wife, Evelyn Montandon; daughters, Shantel 
Smith and husband Sean and Lennea Montandon; and grandchildren, Ryan and
 Savannah Smith and Cyrus Montandon. He is also survived by his sisters,
 Kaye Abel (John), Pat Schmitt (Dennis), and Shirley Myers (Larry); 
brother-in-Law, George Reust (Pauline); sisters-in-law Susie Hughey and 
Carrol Bursell (Chester); numerous nieces and nephews, and good friends.

Preceding Larry in death include his parents, Virgil and Hazel

Janet Neighbors passed away surrounded by her loved ones on August 8, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska, at the age of 72.

Janet was born on November 13, 1948, in Hays, KS, to George and Hilda
 Bollig. She grew up in North Platte where she graduated from St. 
Patrick's High School in 1966 then attended Airline Training School in 
Denver, graduating in '67.

Janet met the love of her life, Glenn Neighbors, in Denver while he 
was serving in the U.S. Air Force. The couple married September 2, 1967,
 and were blessed with 53 years of marriage, two children, Glenn, Jr. 
and Heidi, and four grandchildren. Her family was her life, and her 
husband was her best friend. Janet and Glenn cherished their moments 
together and were truly in love with each other.

Janet worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. then was privileged 
to later stay home and raise her children. Once the children were older,
 Janet worked at JC Penney, Messiah Lutheran Church as secretary, and 
Walmart.

Janet met her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ in December 1975. She 
attended The Rock Church and actively served in many areas from deacon 
board to pianist and secretary, youth teacher, ladies group and bible 
studies, and assisted Glenn with rest home services. She was also a Cub 
Scout den mother and proudly supported her children's and later 
grandchildren's activities. Janet enjoyed doing crafts and puzzles, 
spending time with her friends, bowling on women's leagues, and working 
out with her pool pals at the North Platte Rec Center.

Janet loved Jesus, her family and her friends. Her life was a blessing to those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hilda Bollig; 
sisters, Cheryl Keith and Darlene Hentges; twin brothers, Lawrence and 
Doorance Bollig; nephew, Gregory Folchert; Glenn's father and 
stepmother, Ron and Angela Neighbors; brothers-in-law, Nicholas Lastoka,
 Lyle Keith and John Hentges; and Glenn's stepbrothers, Art and George 
Aurand.

Janet is survived by her husband, Glenn, Sr., and son, Glenn, Jr., of
 North Platte; daughter, Heidi (Sid, Jr.) Fessler, of Broken Bow; 
grandchildren, Derrick (Paige) Neighbors, of North Platte, Allyson 
Neighbors, of Grand Island and Quinn Fessler and Sid Fessler, III, of 
Broken Bow; her sister, Deborah Lastoka, of Colorado Springs, CO; 
brother, Carl (Janet) Bollig, of Columbus; Glenn's brothers, Rondel 
(Marie) Neighbors and David (Michele) Neighbors, of California; as well 
as other relatives and her friends.

Celebration of Janet's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, 
August 12, 2021, at The Rock Church. Burial will follow in Floral Lawns 
Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 </figure>Janet Neighbors passed away surrounded by her loved ones on August 8, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska, at the age of 72.Janet was born on November 13, 1948, in Hays, KS, to George and Hilda
 Bollig. She grew up in North Platte where she graduated from St. 
Patrick's High School in 1966 then attended Airline Training School in 
Denver, graduating in '67.Janet met the love of her life, Glenn Neighbors, in Denver while he 
was serving in the U.S. Air Force. The couple married September 2, 1967,
 and were blessed with 53 years of marriage, two children, Glenn, Jr. 
and Heidi, and four grandchildren. Her family was her life, and her 
husband was her best friend. Janet and Glenn cherished their moments 
together and were truly in love with each other.Janet worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. then was privileged 
to later stay home and raise her children. Once the children were older,
 Janet worked at JC Penney, Messiah Lutheran Church as secretary, and 
Walmart.Janet met her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ in December 1975. She 
attended The Rock Church and actively served in many areas from deacon 
board to pianist and secretary, youth teacher, ladies group and bible 
studies, and assisted Glenn with rest home services. She was also a Cub 
Scout den mother and proudly supported her children's and later 
grandchildren's activities. Janet enjoyed doing crafts and puzzles, 
spending time with her friends, bowling on women's leagues, and working 
out with her pool pals at the North Platte Rec Center.Janet loved Jesus, her family and her friends. Her life was a blessing to those who knew her.She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hilda Bollig; 
sisters, Cheryl Keith and Darlene Hentges; twin brothers, Lawrence and 
Doorance Bollig; nephew, Gregory Folchert; Glenn's father and 
stepmother, Ron and Angela Neighbors; brothers-in-law, Nicholas Lastoka,
 Lyle Keith and John Hentges; and Glenn's stepbrothers, Art and George 
Aurand.Janet is survived by her husband, Glenn, Sr., and son, Glenn, Jr., of
 North Platte; daughter, Heidi (Sid, Jr.) Fessler, of Broken Bow; 
grandchildren, Derrick (Paige) Neighbors, of North Platte, Allyson

Clarice Elaine Peteete&nbsp;(Kelly), a lifelong nurse and educator, was born April 29, 1924, as the fourth child of her beloved parents Herman Albertis “Bert” and Theodora (Pacak) Kelly.&nbsp;

Clarice grew up in the small Kansas community of Montrose alongside her five siblings: Faye, Mildred, Irvin, Molly, and Orris.

Growing up, Clarice had a knack for excelling in whatever she set her mind to. As a student, Clarice’s teachers remembered her as one of the brightest students they ever taught. Her classmates likely agreed as Clarice, getting her start as a teacher early, was known for tutoring struggling classmates in complex science subjects – subjects that would become a lifelong passion of hers. As an athlete, Clarice was the girls singles tennis state champion three years in a row and a softball pitcher feared by other schools. A lover of music and a talented pianist, Clarice rarely had a chance to dance at school dances or parties as her classmates relied on her to play the music.

In the midst of the Second World War, Clarice graduated valedictorian of her high school class in 1942, and like many other young women, did her part supporting the war effort. She moved to Wichita, where she worked in the Beech Aircraft Factory as a secretary and joined the Beech Guardettes.

Eventually, however, Clarice, a lover of science, learning, and helping others, found herself drawn to nursing. In 1944 she moved to Topeka and was inducted into the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, serving at St. Francis Hospital. Clarice's dream of becoming a flight nurse and serving on the frontlines was dashed when she found out she was half an inch too tall.

Whatever her backup plans may have been, it didn’t matter once she met James (or “Jimmy” as she called him at the time), an airman stationed at nearby Forbes Field. It was on a blind, double date set up by her roommate Lila she met James Peteete, her future husband. Lila’s date, Rob, had gone through basic training with Jim and, after both were shot down over Europe, were prisoners of war alongside each other. These two couples, Jim and Clarice and Lila and Rob would remain lifelong friends.

In 1946, a few months short of Clarice’s graduation, Jim received new orders to report to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Despite his insistence she should graduate, that he would wait for her, Clarice did a thoroughly modern thing – she proposed to him (and likely wouldn’t have taken no for an answer). They were married in Topeka, where Clarice, ever the trailblazer, forewent a traditional wedding dress for a beautiful golden suit. Thus began their marriage of 70 years.

They had their first child, James “Kelly,” a year later in 1947. The couple would have seven more children over the years: Pat, Terry, Mike, Linda, Becky, Matt, and Sean.

Clarice and Jim chose to raise their children in her hometown of Montrose. There, Clarice was highly involved in the community, teaching music, organizing musicals, and running the local Farmer’s Co-op office. She accomplished all of this while raising a growing young family.

In 1970, the family moved to Hays because Clarice made, for the time, a brave decision – she wanted to go back to school. Clarice and Jim would remain in Hays for the rest of their lives. All while working full-time as a nurse’s assistant at a local hospital and raising young children, Clarice completed her long-delayed Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Fort Hays State University in 1972. Clarice followed her BSN up with a Master in Secondary Education degree from FHSU in 1979 and a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Kansas in 1983.

After graduation in 1972, Clarice worked as a charge nurse at a local hospital but, more importantly, began working as a nursing instructor at FHSU, reigniting her passion for teaching. Clarice eventually became an Associate Professor at FHSU. Asked on several occasions to consider becoming the Chair of the Nursing Department, Clarice would always say no. She wanted to keep doing what she loved – working side-by-side with students.

A beloved professor, Clarice was voted FHSU’s best faculty member by the graduating class of 1977, winning the prestigious Pilot Award in gratitude for her teaching, advice, and friendship. More than mere awards, a better example of the love Clarice’s students had for her was in how often former students would come up to her whenever and wherever they saw her, even decades later, to tell her how much she meant to them as a professor.

Clarice retired from FHSU in 1990 but not from teaching. She continued as an educator by helping to create a rural nursing education outreach program. She traveled the state, giving lectures and teaching health programs to people in small, rural Kansas communities. It wasn’t until 1995, at the age of 71, Clarice finally retired.

In her retirement, Clarice put the same effort, love, and attention into her family and grandchildren. She was always quick to drop everything to dote on her grandchildren, making sure her cookie jar was always full, her schedule was free to spend hours catching up and taking them on adventures to see dinosaurs at the Sternberg or FHSU’s bison herd. She was truly the matriarch of her family and was deeply important to every one of them.

Ultimately, Clarice, a vibrant, loving person, blazed a trail for young women after her. As a “mother to everyone,” her strengths were obvious to those lucky enough to meet her. It was obvious in her supreme kindness and love for others; it was obvious from her absolute joy in seeing others succeed; it was obvious from her desire to support others through their struggles. Most of all, however, it was obvious from her willingness through each stage of her life, whether as a young woman or as a grandmother, to give her all to help others. Clarice touched many lives in this community and will be dearly missed by all who had a chance to enjoy her friendship, mentorship, and love.

Clarice is survived by one brother, Orris Kelly, and one sister, Molly McCampbell. She is also survived by seven children, Kelly, Linda, Terry, Mike, Becky, Matt, and Sean, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 10 AM Saturday, August 14, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church - Hays, 305 West 7th Street, Hays, KS 67601.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow the services in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Republic County, KS.

Clarice Elaine Peteete (Kelly)

Milford Lee Kirchhoff was born on April 25, 1930, in rural Athol, Kansas
 to Lena (Kuhlmann) and Henry Kirchhoff Jr. On August 7, 2021, Milford 
made his way to his eternal home in Heaven at the age of 91 at Smith 
County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, Kansas. Milford was baptized at
 St. John Lutheran Church, Athol, on May 18, 1930 by Rev. A.C. 
Fleischmann, and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Athol, on April 
2, 1944 by Rev. F. Efken. 
 Milford grew up on the family farm and helped his parents. His 
father developed polio at a young age, so Milford had many 
responsibilities from an early age. Milford served in the Armed Forces 
during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954. He had many stories of 
his time stationed in Alaska.
 Milford met Marion Sasse at Luther League when her family came from 
rural Hardy, Nebraska, to visit cousins in the Athol area. Milford and 
Marion were united in marriage on September 28, 1956, at St. Paul 
Lutheran Church in rural Deshler, Nebraska, by Rev. George Obermeyer. 
Milford and Marion were blessed with one daughter, Carol.
 Milford and Marion worked side by side everyday raising their 
daughter and working on the farm. Milford loved working the land and 
was always very good at “fixing” things. Milford was very involved in 
the church at St. John Lutheran. Milford served several terms on the 
Church Council and as Sunday School Superintendent. He also helped 
Marion with the Funeral Committee for many years. 
 Milford and Marion enjoyed playing cards with their group of 
friends, who never missed a birthday, anniversary or New Year’s Eve 
together. They shared laughs and great times. The couple also made 
many friends square dancing, as they traveled Kansas and Nebraska 
following
 their favorite callers.
 Milford loved and was very proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed 
having them help on the farm. Cory said his Grandpa could fix anything 
with what he had on the farm. Most recently, he loved being Great 
Grandpa to Sawyer, Avery, and Lola. They brought him many smiles!
 Milford was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, his parents, his 
sister, Sylvia, and brother-in-law Lawrence Sasse. Left to celebrate 
his life are: daughter, Carol Rahjes and husband Don of Kensington; 
granddaughter Kelsey (Rahjes) Levin and husband Garrett of Kensington; 
grandson Cory Rahjes and wife Audrey of Kensington; great 
granddaughters, Sawyer and Avery Levin, and Lola Rahjes of Kensington; 
three nephews, Glenn Sasse of Hardy, Nebraska; Gerald Sasse and wife 
Cindy of Deshler, Nebraska; Galen Sasse and wife Melissa of Deshler, 
Nebraska; two great nephews, Chris Sasse and wife Desiree and their 
daughter Elsie of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Matthew Sasse of Deshler, 
Nebraska; five great nieces, Shelly Sasse and significant other Brian 
Parks of San Francisco, CA; Madison and Mikayla Sasse of Fremont, 
Nebraska; Brooke and Claire Sasse of Deshler, Nebraska and many other
