
Gerald Eugene Tubbs Sr., a Colby farmer, died Saturday, August 28,
2021, at Prairie Senior Living Complex, in Colby. He was born December
6, 1925, in Levant, KS, to George and Pearl (Carpenter) Tubbs.
Gerald attended school in Levant until the 8th grade. After leaving
school, he went to work for his brother-in-law, Willard Miller, and then
went to work for his brother Wayne, in Vona, Colorado. There he met the
love of his life, Rose Anna Bigelow. They were married on August 15,
1946, in Colby.
During his life, Gerald held many jobs. He was part of the crew working
on the construction of I-70 and the building of the Levant elevator. He
developed his love of farming while working for his brother and
brother-in-law. In the 1950’s, Gerald started his custom harvesting
business, traveling to Oklahoma and parts of Kansas, while still
operating his own farm. He truly had a passion for farming.
In his later years, Gerald enjoyed taking trips to Texas with his brother-in-law Dale Deaver and friends.
Gerald had a special love for is family and especially enjoyed spending
time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He would do anything for
them. He also valued his friends and was loved by everyone who was
fortunate enough to know him. He was a favorite of the staff at Fairview
and Prairie Senior Living Complex.
He was preceded in death by his wife, in 1970; parents; brothers, Fred,
Wayne, George and Jim; and sisters, Viola, Isabella, Lorraine, Evelyn,
Minnie, Elon and Blanche.
Gerald is survived by his son Gerald Jr. and wife Juanelle;
grandchildren, Christie (Justin) Foss, Jennifer Harold, Jeff (Lezley)
Tubbs and Nick Tubbs; great grandchildren, AJ, Chase, Boston, Cash,
Jaden and Boone and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Baalmann
Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 2,
2021, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with burial in Beulah Cemetery.
