Lloyd M. Heeke

Lloyd M. Heeke, 89, of Great Bend passed away August 27, 2021, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood.  He was born Feb. 20, 1932, on the farm Northwest of Lakin, to Henry and Clara (Laudick) Heeke. 

Lloyd attended Lakin grade school and high school until enlisting in the United States Air Force.  He attained the rank of Airman First Class.  In 1953 Lloyd went to work for Kansas, Nebraska Natural Gas Co., Lakin, then transferred to Hooker, Okla. in 1955 as meter man.  In 1969, he was transferred to Canadian, Texas as foreman of the Buffalo Wallow Gas field.  Lloyd was then transferred to the Pawnee Rock area as the area supervisor in 1976, until his retirement in 1991.

Lloyd married Mary Ann Jones at Sacred Heart Church in Hooker, Okla., March 2, 1957.  To this union six children were born (three sons and three daughters).  Mary Ann died Aug. 29, 1997.

Lloyd and his family enjoyed camping, boating, and many extended vacations and trips in their motor home.  He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, and 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #862, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the Adoration Chapel.

Lloyd is survived by three sons, Keith Heeke of Great Bend, Phillip Heeke and wife Jane of Great Bend, and Leslie Heeke of Larned; two daughters, Nonette Clemens and husband Paul of Lewisburg, Pa. and LaVonne Reiser and husband Richard of Fisherville, Ky.; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in passing by his parents; five brothers, Arnold Heeke, Alvin Heeke, Vernon Heeke, Owen Heeke, and Merle Heeke; two sisters, infant Edna Corrine and Jeanne (Schiffelbine) Drake; and one daughter Rita Janniee.

Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Knights of Columbus Rosary and Vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery with military honors conducted by the McConnell Air Force Honor Guard. Memorials have been suggested to Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) or Prince of Peace Parish, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
