<img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/11/1574710562535.jpeg">Tex passed away on November 19th, 2019, at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen Texas at the age of 86. He was born April 3rd, 1933, on a farm 4 miles west of Glade, KS to Ernest and Anna Shaw. His Family moved to the Selden area in 1935 and he spent the majority of his life and raised his family in the area. He married Charlene Marie Gibson on July 30, 1955, in Clayton, NewMexico. They farmed and ranched in the area until their retirement in 1988. They continued to live in the Selden area part time in retirement and enjoyed many adventures and activities during their 64 years of marriage. Typically spending the winter in South Texas and the summer in Wyoming. Tex was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his Honda Trike, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He had a very diverse group of friends and was always up for an adventure. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Anna, a twin brother Rex and a younger sister Jerrie Joyce. He is survived by his wife Charlene of the home; 4 children: Randy and Adeana Shaw of Springfield, CO; Danny and Miriam Shaw of Selden, KS; Doug and Jill Shaw of Ellis, KS and Lisa and Lance Stoll of Selden, KS. A sister Doris Jean Oliver of Rexford, KS. 13 Grandkids and 19 Great Grandkids . It was his wish not to have a typical funeral; instead the family will be having a private graveside service and celebration of life party in the spring of 2020. Details to follow.&nbsp;

Eugene Leonard Kleidosty died Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Good Samaritan nursing home in Atwood, Kansas. He was born November 6, 1926, at the George Jr. Sattler farmstead, five miles northwest of Herndon, Kansas, the son of Mike and Carrie (Sattler) Kleidosty. He attended the Stoney School, first through fourth grades and then went to St. Mary’s School in Herndon, fifth through eighth grades. After eighth grade, Eugene, or Gener as he was fondly called by all his nieces and nephews, moved with his parents to the original John Kleidosty farm, which his parents had bought. Gene was a lifelong farmer and handyman. He raised wheat, alfalfa, hay and Hereford cattle. He retired from farming in 1982. He loved to garden and was known for raising large watermelons and cantaloupes. On October 4, 2008, Gene made the decision to move to town. He could no longer take care of the farm. Gene began making coffee in the mornings at a gathering place for the citizens of Herndon. He also enjoyed making bird houses and bird feeding stations for anyone who wanted them. He loved playing cards with his family, especially sheeps head and pitch. He even learned to play train dominoes. Gene is survived by his sister Eileen Portschy, of Herndon and nieces and nephews, Rita (Greg) Marintzer, Cheri Kastens and Dean (Deb) Portschy, all of Herndon, Joyce (Jim) Rich, of Arden, NC, Patsy Marintzer (Phil Timm) of Idalia, CO, Dianne Halam and Mike Halam, of California. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mike and Carrie Kleidosty; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Doug Bobinmyer and Helen and Joe Halam; brother-in-law Virgil Pete Portschy; niece Carol Kompus and nephew Doug Bobinmyer. <img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/11/1574707309712.jpeg">Randy Lee Schmidt, 67, of Wilson, Kansas passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Ellsworth County Medical Center, as the result of his long fight and battle with cancer for 19 years. Randy was born in Ellsworth, Kansas to Alvin and Ilene Schmidt on August 3, 1952. On March 18, 1983 he was united in marriage to Delores Heard. To this union two children were born: a son, Lee and a daughter, Ashley. Randy attended school in Dorrance and Wilson, graduating from Wilson High School with the class of 1970. After graduation, he went to work for two years for Dreiling Construction. In 1972 he enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Riley. He was in the Army for 3 years as part of the Big Red 1, attaining the rank of Sargent. Randy was a machinist at Caschco for 43 years and seldom missed a day until he retired on October 11, 2019. Randy was an active member of American Legion Post 262, Sons of the American Legion, and Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wilson. Randy dearly loved his family. He stated that Delores and Lee were his rocks and Ashley was his angel. Randy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Delores; daughter, Ashley of Wilson; son, Lee (Kiley Demel) of Wilson; his beloved dog, Sophie Jo; brother, Robert Schmidt (Julie) of Beloit, Kansas; sister, Cindy Heinze (Steve) of Wilson; aunts, Patricia Dinkel and Joann Betts; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles, a great-niece, and a grand-dog, Sally Jane. He was born on November 11, 1933 in Trego County, Kansas the son of Jacob and Eva (Eichman) Kraft. He worked for Siebert Sand, Ness County Road and Bridge and he drove a truck for Sekaveks and in the oil field. Hubert was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean War and a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ness City. On Friday, November 21, 1958 he married Shirley Leterle in Guyman, Oklahoma. Survivors include wife of 61 years, Shirley Kraft; sons, Larry Kraft and his wife, Donna, of Ness City, Bill Kraft and his wife, Glenda, of Derby, Ray Kraft and his friend, Mary Worth, of Antonino; brother, Delvin Kraft and his wife, Vivian, of Ransom; sister, Helen Wagner of Ness City; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Infant Reinhold, Herman, Reinhold, J., and Paul Kraft; and his two sisters, Betty Birzer and Darlene Cody. Agnes was born on March 30, 1924, in Esbon, Kansas, on the family farm, the daughter of Samuel and Gertrude (Blattner) Mizner.&nbsp;She grew up in Esbon, helping her family work on the farm and graduated from Esbon High School.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Gail J. Kindler on May 28, 1943, in Mankato, Kansas.&nbsp;Gail preceded her in death on September 12, 2009.&nbsp;She worked as a teacher in the Esbon area, teaching first through 8th grade in the country school.&nbsp;While in Lakewood she worked for, and retired from, the American Optical Company.&nbsp;She and Gail enjoyed big band music and polka dancing.&nbsp;She enjoyed spending time with her family, sharing stories of her years growing up and teaching in Esbon, Kansas. Agnes and Gail never had any children but she is survived by her dear friend Janet Peerman and her 19 nieces and nephews who were her children of the heart and whom she loved dearly. She was preceded by her parents, husband Gail, 1 brother Leo Mizner and 5 sisters Irene Craven, Thelma Lamb, Dorothy Frost, Hazel Frohlich and Gwendolyn Mitchell. Don E. Anschutz, 68, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas. Don was born on January 18, 1951 to Harold W. and Helen E. (Bender) Anschutz in Russell.&nbsp;He attended school in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1969 and from Kansas State University in 1973. Don married Marlene K. Knoll of Garden City, Kansas in Hays, Kansas, on July 12, 1975.&nbsp;Don and Marlene made their home on their farm north of Russell. &nbsp; Don’s surviving family include his wife of 44 years, Marlene of the home; daughter, Susan Anschutz of Russell, Kansas; son, Andrew Anschutz (Kristin) of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Owen Anschutz and Alma Anschutz; and two brothers, Wayne Anschutz of Hoover, Alabama and James Anschutz (Mary Ann) of Midland, Michigan. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother John Anschutz. He was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Palco, Kan., to Jeremaniah and Rose (Roberts) Balthazor. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Sid married Janet Roberta Brin on May 28, 1952. She passed away April 17, 2012.He was a teacher, farmer, builder and business owner. There was no job too small or too large for him to tackle. If his family, friends or church asked for help he never said no. He served in active duty in Korea, returning home to finish his education specialist degree at Ft. Hays State University. He was a devout Catholic and devoted family man.Sid is survived by his children, Roxie Miller, of Mesa, Ariz., and Melanie Britegam, John Balthazor and Tracy Balthazor (Sheryl, all of Salina; brother, Keith Balthazor (Jane, of Salina; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Verhage, 84, of Beloit,KS (formerly of rural Cawker City (Dispatch, KS, died Friday, November 15, at the Mitchell County Hospital, in Beloit, KS.&nbsp;Richard was born on February 2, 1935 to Martin J. and Marcia L. (Lessenden) Verhage in Jewell County, KS.Richard went through 12th grade in school.&nbsp;He retired&nbsp;as a Road Grader Operator in Jewell County. Richard married Edna Marie and to this union 4 children were born.&nbsp;After Edna passed away,&nbsp;Richard&nbsp;married Marsha (Lynn). She was born on August 24, 1925 at the family farm in rural Gove County the daughter of W.O. &amp; Edna (Gregg) Leighton. Peg attended Prairie View Grade School in Gove County and graduated from Quinter High School in 1943. On February 6, 1944 she was united in marriage to Dwight Terwilliger at Quinter. They lived on the farm at Shields where she was a homemaker. They moved to Dighton in 1975. They enjoyed 49 years together before Dwight passed away on July 25, 1993. She resided at the Diamond View Assisted Living in Dighton from 2006 to 2016. In January 2017 she moved to the Long Term Care at Lane County Hospital. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Dighton Order Of Eastern Star Chapter 241. Her life revolved around her family who gave her much joy. She passed away November 22, 2019 during a brief stay at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 88. Dorothy was raised in Herndon with her two brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Herndon High School in 1951. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at the grain elevator in Herndon. On December 25, 1953 she was united in marriage to Kieth Alstrom at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Herndon. They started their married life on the farm of Kieth’s parents. To this union twin boys were born; Gary Kieth and Jerry Ray. Dorothy worked at Claar’s Clothing Store for many years. In 1973, the family moved to Oklahoma City where they ran a Kerr-McGee filling station. They moved back to Oberlin in 1975 and she then began working at Anderson’s Farm and Home Center until her retirement. Dorothy was a very classy lady, a good cook and loved to bake. One of her highlights was having family and friends come back every year for opening weekend of pheasant hunting. She especially enjoyed her sister weekends and dancing with Kieth at the Bohemian Hall. Dorothy was also a doll collector. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Oberlin. The greatest joy in her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her two sons, Gary Alstrom and Jerry Alstrom and wife Montine; three grandchildren: Casey Alstrom and Missy Uehlin, Nikki Amlong and husband John, and Jessica Luck and husband Mark; eight great grandchildren: Wyatt and Owen Amlong, Allason Alstrom, Corbin, Cyler, Camden and Cailynn Luck and Gavon Uehlin; sisters, Eleanor and husband Eldon Odle and Hazel Rippetoe; plus many nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Kieth in April 2019; daughter-in-law, Becky Alstrom; sister, Betty and husband Bob Smith; brothers, Marvin Lorentz and Clarence and wife Evelyn Lorentz; brother-in-law, Jim Rippetoe and her in-laws, Don and Nadine Anderson and Max and Jackie Alstrom. <img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/11/1574623265802.png">Ella B. Dechant, 94, Hays, died Friday, November 22, 2019 at Via Christi Village. She was born November 21, 1925 on the family farm northeast of Ellis, Kansas one of ten children to Joseph and Agatha (Gaschler) Weber.&nbsp;&nbsp;A 1944 graduate of Ellis High School, on April 16, 1945 she was united in marriage to Alphonse R. Dechant at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp;He preceded her in death on February 24, 1984.&nbsp;Ella was a farm wife, a house wife, worked as a school lunch lady at Felten Middle School for twenty years, and in the craft department at Wal-Mart for over ten years.&nbsp; She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a foster grandparent in the Foster Grandparent Program for thirteen years.&nbsp;Her hobbies included cooking, she loved to cook and was stingy with sharing her homemade recipes, playing cards, she was an avid pinochle player, watching soap operas, making quilts for her family and friends, and traveling.&nbsp;She was a joyful cheerleader for all of her grandchildren’s sporting events, was very faithful and kindhearted, she was easy to love and loved easily, and she loved her large, close-knit family.&nbsp;Many in the community lovingly knew her as “Grandma Ella." Survivors include two sons; Thomas Dechant of Hays and Jeff Dechant and wife Kim of Hays, a sister; Janet Gagnon and husband Wilfred “Chick” of Fairfax, Virginia, six grandchildren; Deanna Rupp and husband Jeff of Hays, Shannon Wylie and husband Will of Lakewood, CO, Tomi Schwandt and husband Jamie of Wichita, Dustin Dechant and partner Laura Dunn of Hays, Jeffrey Dechant of Hays, and Heather Younger and husband Cole of Victoria, twelve great grandchildren; Colten Rupp, Veya Rupp, Allie Rupp, Liam Wylie, Levi Wylie, Ella Schwandt, Jack Schwandt, Cameron Dechant, Damien Dechant, Lexi Younger, Laci Younger, and Levi Younger, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alphonse, by four brothers; William, Joe, Ralph, and John Weber, and by four sisters; Florence Johnson, Rose Massier, Pauline Wagoner, and Betty Godfrey. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine Street, with Fr. She was born July 19, 1923 in Logan, the eighth child of John and Martha (Vielguth) Wallgren.&nbsp;She received her basic education at the Rural Brown School south of Logan and attended High School in Webster, graduating in 1941.&nbsp;She married John W. Hance of Webster.&nbsp;They later divorced.&nbsp;Mildred was a school teacher, cook at Fort Hays State University, and a dietician at the Hadley Hospital Cafeteria until her retirement.&nbsp;She was baptized, attended the Church of the Nazarene in Hays, and throughout the years was a faithful Christian in word, deed and life.&nbsp;Truly her life was a demonstration of a living faith and an utmost confidence in God, trusting His Divine Leadership in many of the trying experiences of life.&nbsp;She enjoyed fishing, garage sales, completing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter Beverly Fross and husband John “Cooke” of Hays, two great grandchildren; Hayley Gottschalk and husband Derek of Gorham, and Tyler Fross and wife Justine of Pratt, and five great-great grandchildren; Skylar Anderson, Leigha Anderson, Lilly Fross, Oliver Fross, and Clark Fross. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson; Monty Fross, two brothers; Calvin Wallgren and Junior Wallgren, six sisters; Alpha McCue, Hazel Schooler, Gladys McCombs, Ann Nelson, Louise Nelson, and Inez Walters, and many other relatives and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Murray officiating.&nbsp;Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp;The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until service time on Monday at the funeral home.&nbsp;Memorials are suggested to the ARC of Central Plains Thrift Shop.&nbsp;Condolences and memories of Mildred may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com

Terra was born March 25, 1975, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Sheila (Scheck) Koerner.&nbsp;She was a 10 year resident of La Crosse, Kansas, moving there from Palisade, Nebraska.&nbsp;A 1993 graduate of Great Bend High School, Great Bend, Kansas, she was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Palisade Fire Department, Palisade, Nebraska. On November 9, 1996, she married Heath Davis at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, Kansas. &nbsp; Survivors include:&nbsp;her husband, Heath Davis, La Crosse, Kansas; her son, Tyler Davis, La Crosse, Kansas; her daughter, Skylar Davis, Russell, Kansas; her father and step mother, Thomas “Tom” and Judy Koerner, Hays, Kansas; one brother, Scott Koerner (Vicki, Branson, Missouri; and one sister, Cristee Torres (Jesse, Great Bend, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sheila (Scheck) Koerner. <img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/11/1574622822188.jpeg">LaDonna Lee (Karns) Hensley, 95, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 in Hill City. She was born May 31, 1924, in the family home, Ada, Kansas. She was the second child of Alfred “Barney” and Hazel Belle (Jones) Karns. She grew up with her siblings: Roger Max, who died at 15 of a burst appendix, Cheryl and Jim. Following high school, LaDonna attended cosmetology school in Salina and landed her first job in Plainville. In 1942, at a USO sponsored dance, her fun-loving manner and beauty attracted the admiring eye of an Army Air Corps pilot, George Hensley of Zurich. They were united in marriage August 6, 1944 in Salina. It is reported that as they were leaving the ceremony, LaDonna’s dad took George by the arm and said, “You better take good care of her.” George held true to his promise. The couple were blessed with two children: Mitchell “Mitch” and Marcia. The sudden loss of George was devastating but the loss of her only son, Mitch, was the most difficult and nearly unbearable thing for this loving mother, especially since he left this life on her birthday. Before his passing he would often call his mother to visit and ask if she was “butterflying” which meant that she was often embroidering squares for a butterfly patterned quilt. For this reason, LaDonna cherished seeing a butterfly or receiving a butterfly gift. She was appointed to the Dawson Place Board of Directors when it opened in 1964. In 1977, she resigned from the board and was hired as business manager and bookkeeper. In 1978, she became the Administrator of Dawson Place, retiring in 1997. She again became a board member until her passing. LaDonna enjoyed bridge clubs as well as being on a winning ladies’ bowling team. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and an active member of the Hill City Christian Church. Not only will she be remembered as an accomplished strong, caring businesswoman, sister and friend, but more importantly a loving, fun, amazing grandmother, who had no limits to what she was willing to do for her children and grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband and son; sister Cheryl and brother Roger Max. She is survived by her brother Jim Karns of Plainville; her daughter, Marcia (Tim) Pyle of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law Brenda Hensley, Gallatin, Missouri; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Joan was born July 26, 1934 in Logan County, KS to Harold Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Sullivan) Baehler.&nbsp;She was one of three children.&nbsp;She attended country school in Wallace County, and attended High School in Sharon Springs up through the 10th grade.&nbsp; On November 10, 1951 she married Forest Dean Harrison at the Methodist Church in Sharon Springs.&nbsp;To this union, two daughters, Sherrel and Sandra were born.&nbsp; Joan was a bus driver and a rancher’s wife, helping her husband around the ranch and raising a family. She took great pride in the appearance of the home place enjoying mowing in the summer, and always kept the buildings and corrals freshly painted. She also cherished her grandsons watching them mature and start families of their own. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and one great grandchild. She is survived by her daughters Sherrel Harrison (Don Barnett) of Sharon Springs, and Sandra Knudsen (J.R.) of Kearney, Missouri; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two siblings Harold Vernon Baehler and Barbara Akers of Sharon Springs. Funeral services for Joan were held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 10:00 AM MT at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs with Pastor Galen Crippen and Reverend Paul McNall officiating.&nbsp;Burial followed in the Wallace Cemetery, Wallace, KS. Visitation was held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.
