Reva G. Lynd

Reva Gael Lynd was born on October 8, 1925 in Oakley, Kansas to Monte and Inez (McKim) Poague.  She departed this life on December 20, 2019, at the age of 94 at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital.  

Reva was the third of four children.  At the age of four her family moved to WaKeeney where she became a longtime resident.  After graduating from Trego Community High School, she attended K-State in Manhattan, KS, for two years.  

On September 4, 1946, she was united in marriage to Marvin Lynd.  Reva and Marvin recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.  Two children, Rex and Nancee were born to this union.  

Soon after attending KSU for two years, Reva taught country school in Trego County for one year.  She later worked as a medical records librarian for nine years at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in WaKeeney, and belonged to several clubs and organizations; to include, The Harmony Club, P.E.O., Boots and Saddle Club and several bridge clubs.  After retirement, Reva and Marvin spent sixteen winters in Mesa, Arizona as “Snow Birds”. 

Reva was a woman of many talents, hobbies and interests.  Gifted with the ability to play music by ear, Reva was a very talented pianist.  The family has many fond memories of singing around the piano to practically any song requested.  Reva and her sister, Jan Reeder, entertained at regular family Christmas programs with hilarious parodies and skits themed around different family members.  Due to her creative nature and great sense of humor, she always had something planned for family gatherings; such as treasure hunts, watermelon seed spitting contests, and fun themed parties and picnics at the farm.  Reva was an avid reader and also a very skilled writer. She enjoyed pets, loved her family and just lit up when her grandchildren or great grandchildren visited.  

Reva was a dedicated wife and mother who will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers; Leighton and Lowell Poague.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her husband, Marvin; son Rex and wife Sue of Fort Collins, CO; daughter Nancee and husband Jerry of WaKeeney; her sister Janice Reeder of WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Sara Lynd, Melissa Phifer, Matthew Donker, Sandra Thomas, Mike and Shawn Loseke; and eight great-grandchildren, Makala Phifer, Ronin Thomas, Addie Loseke, Zoey Donker, Kyle Phifer, Liam Loseke, Nora Donker, and Dylan Lynd.  

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church in WaKeeney, KS. There will be no visitation.
