Norma Jean Huss (Marintzer

Norma Jean Huss, 86, of Herndon, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at the Rawlins County Health Center, Atwood.

She was born Jan. 7, 1934, in rural Herndon to Alfred P. and Eleanora (Barenberg) Marintzer. Norma Jean grew up on the family farm northwest of Herndon.

On June 10, 1958, she married Frank Huss Jr. and to this union six children were born. Norma Jean had worked at the Herndon grocery stores and helped on the farm, milking cows and raising and butchering chickens. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, making wine and embroidering pillow cases and tea towels.

Norma Jean also enjoyed belonging to a card club, playing pinochle. In addition to this she also enjoyed a card game of pitch, going to dances in Herndon at the VFW, and celebrating New Year’s Eve. She was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church as well as the Altar Society in Herndon and taught CCD there for 2 years. Norma Jean’s greatest joy was her grandkids and great grandkids.

Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank Huss Jr. and sister Rose “Sis” Hauptman.

She is survived by her daughters, Arnetta Huss, of Herndon and Brenda (Greg) Peterson, of Atwood; sons, Jeff (Deb) Huss, of Culbertson, Neb., Bob (Linda) Huss, of Herndon, Daryl Huss, of Herndon, and Kent (Elizabeth) Huss, of Hays; brother Francis “Sonny” (Shirley) Marintzer; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2020 at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church, Herndon, with burial in the church cemetery.
