Daniel Dean Butts

Lifelong Sherman County resident Daniel Dean Butts, 90, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Topside Manor in Goodland.

Daniel was born on January 9, 1930 to Gaylord William and Ellen Mary (West) Butts in Goodland, KS.  He was the 6th of 9 children.  He attended school in rural Sherman County up through the 8th grade.  He served in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953.

On March 15, 1952, Daniel married Georgia Lee Shelton in Hillsville, VA.  To this union, three children Vicki, Terri and Patrick were born.

Daniel was a carpenter and loved woodworking.  He also loved telling stories, watching westerns, gardening, fishing, was an avid bird watcher and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his mother and father-in-law George and Rubye Shelton, all his siblings; Peter (Betty) Jensen, Roberta (Elvin) Strange, Vera (Bud) Hoss, Verna (Wayne) Hoss, Bill Butts, Betty (Floyd) Wegner, Neil Butts and John (Donna) Butts; brother and sister-in-law Betty (Bill) Shelton and a brother-in-law Jim Shelton.

He is survived by his wife Georgia, his three children Vicki Butts of Goodland, KS, Terri (Ken) Davis of Kiowa, CO, and Patrick (Cindy) Butts of Alma, NE.  He is also survived by his three grandchildren; Tess Davis of Burlington, CO, Leah (Zach) Davis-Steinberg of Monte Rose, CO and Shelby Butts of Alma, NE; seven great grandchildren; Emit, Kennedy, Cassidy and Breckin Davis of Burlington, CO, Isaiah, Jemma and Koah Davis-Steinberg of Monte Rose, CO; one great great grandson Bearen Martinez of Arvada, CO; sister-in-law Barbara Butts of Goodland, KS, sister-in-law Eleanor Shelton of Roanoke, VA, brother and sister-in-law’s Don and Phyllis Shelton of Roanoke, VA, Joe and Betty Shelton of Lynchburg, VA and Guy and Mattie Sappenfield of Catlett, VA.

Memorial services for Daniel will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Pastor Gordon Pettibone officiating.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to Northwest Kansas Hospice Services and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
