Thelma G. Janssen, age 85, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Wichita County Heath Center in Leoti, Kansas.  She was born on January 27, 1935 in Bushton, Kansas, the daughter of Louis &amp; Alma G. Cook Novotny.  A resident of Leoti, Kansas since 1957 moving from California, she was a retired CNA.

On September 2, 1956 she married Gordon Kent Janssen in Lorraine, Kansas.  He survives.

Survivors include her Husband - Kent Janssen of Leoti, Kansas, Two Daughters - Kimberly Janssen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Karol Janssen of San Francisco, California, One Brother - Stuart Novotny of Soloman, Kansas, Three Sisters - Karen Hoffman of Kansas City, Kansas, Judy Long of Wichita, Kansas, Leona Barkow of Ellsworth, Kansas, Three Grandchildren, and Two Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, One Brother and Three Sisters.

Private Family Graveside Services will be held at a later date and time at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Alma Faye Whitson passed away July 11th, 2020, at Topside Manor in 
Goodland at the age of 87. She moved to Goodland from Nickerson, KS in 
2010.

She was born August 26, 1932, in Elk City, KS to Harvey Conrad Godsey and Julia Alma (Hawk) Godsey.

She married Clarence E. Whitson on April 8, 1949, in Bartlesville, OK. They had three sons, Eldon, Doug, and Rick.

After her children were older she worked as an accountant for an auditing firm for Kansas Co-ops until she retired in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Whitson, two 
sons, Eldon E. Whitson Goodland and Rick L. Whitson Bennett, NE.

Faye is survived by son Doug Whitson and wife Pam (Cecil) Whitson, 
Goodland, KS, daughter-in-law Tammi Kemper-Whitson, Bennett, NE, five 
Grandchildren (Jill, Jason, Jennifer, Connie and Cody), and two Great 
Grandchildren (Keonnie and Cash).

There will be grave side services for Faye in Elk City, KS, date to be determined later.

Alma Faye Whitson

Paul Franklin Burk, 82, went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2020 
after a valiant battle with a long illness.&nbsp; He died at home in Overland
 Park, Kansas, in the care of Olathe Hospice and his loving wife and 
family.&nbsp; His devotion to his immediate and extended family and his 
unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ strengthened him and ultimately gave 
him peace.

Paul was born to Herman and Margaret Burk and grew up farming wheat 
and raising cattle with his three brothers and two sisters in western 
Kansas.&nbsp; His happiest childhood memory was when, at six years of age, 
his mother gave him a 22 Bolt-Action Stevens Rifle.&nbsp; He soon was able to
 accurately shoot ‘a sunflower stem waving in the wind’.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul was blessed with a large and loving family.&nbsp; He met and married 
Carolyn Henson while working in the emerging space industry in southern 
California in 1963.&nbsp; He traded in his Austin- Healey for a used Buick 
when their first child was born.&nbsp; They moved to Florida where he worked 
on the Apollo Missions developing the self-destruct relay for the Saturn
 V and where their second child was born.&nbsp; The family landed in Overland
 Park, KS by 1970 where they had three more children and would raise 
their big and boisterous crew.&nbsp; Carolyn passed away in 1996.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul was a servant leader at heart who walked with his Lord and 
savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; He had attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, 
Illinois before earning his degree in electrical engineering at Kansas 
State University in Manhattan, KS in 1962.&nbsp; He earned his IEEE license, 
eventually gaining engineering licenses in every state west of the 
Mississippi and most of them to the east.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul’s core competence was competence.&nbsp; He could fix any machine.&nbsp; 
Solve any problem.&nbsp; He was a man of few words with a wry sense of humor 
and a competitive spirit.&nbsp; If you had the rare fortune of besting him in
 a game of Spades, you knew you earned it.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul was generous with his time and skills.&nbsp; He helped his family, 
friends and neighbors and rescued many a stranded traveler along I-70 
during his long drives between Overland Park and Goodland, where he 
farmed in his retirement.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 2000, Paul married Gloria Craig Burk with whom he would happily 
spend the rest of his life.&nbsp; Paul and Gloria were active at Blue Valley 
Baptist Church and in the lives of their grandchildren.&nbsp; They travelled 
widely during their twenty wonderful years together.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate his 
extraordinary life and take comfort that he is at peace with his 
Creator.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children Kathy Biggs, 
Connie Burk, Karen Burk, Justin Burk and Janette Burk; Gloria’s three 
children; their combined 23 beloved grandchildren; his siblings Lowell 
Burk, John Whitney Cameron and Virginia Burk; and many beloved nieces, 
nephews, and extended family members.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by wife Carolyn Henson Burk; his siblings 
Linda Belshe, Larry Burk and Vaughn Gene Burk; and his parents.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul will be buried at the Goodland Cemetery on Saturday, July 11th 
at 3 pm MDT/4 pm CDT near his parents and siblings.&nbsp; The family

David P. Holle, 69, of Osborne, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 8,
 2020 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;He was 
born in Topeka, KS on February 3, 1951 to the late Lola (Hossler) and 
Fredrick Holle. &nbsp;

David graduated from high school and attended KSU. &nbsp;He became a business entrepreneur and owned several furniture stores.

David enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free&nbsp;time.

David is survived by daughters: Rosanna Holle of Columbia, MO; Megan 
Holle of Glendale, AZ; brother: Charles Holle of Topeka, KS.

Lola Mary (Carswell) DeForest, 90, of Olathe, passed away on June 21,
 2020. &nbsp;She was born on July 29, 1929 to Edwin &amp; Juanita (Bloyd) 
Carswell in Alton, KS.

Lola grew up on a farm south of Alton, KS. &nbsp;She graduated from Alton 
High School in 1947, &amp; attended college where she obtained a 
certificate to teach school. &nbsp;She taught school in a one-room 
schoolhouse for a year before her marriage to Merle Eugene DeForest on 
May 19, 1948.

They farmed near Alton until the spring of 1951 when they moved back 
to the farm near Osborne, KS where Merle was born. &nbsp;When Merle died in 
1965, Lola took on the responsibility of providing for herself &amp; 3 
children. &nbsp;In addition to being a devoted mother, she worked as a 
cosmetologist, then as an office manager in the Osborne County Hospital,
 &amp; eventually as a certified medical aide until her retirement in 
1994. &nbsp;She then moved from Osborne to Wichita, KS where she moved in 
with her daughter, Bernice, in anticipation of Bernice's adoption of 
Sean.

Lola enjoyed life in many ways. &nbsp;She was able to find good church 
homes wherever she lived &amp; loved the fellowship of believers at 
Community Bible Church in Olathe, KS. &nbsp;She spent many happy hours going 
with her church friends to theaters &amp; going out to eat.

She especially loved spending time with her children &amp; 
grandchildren. &nbsp;She loved to bake pies, cinnamon rolls &amp; meals. &nbsp;She
 enjoyed crocheting, making many afghans for family members. &nbsp;She 
cherished traveling with Bernice to such places as Yellowstone National 
Park, Mount Rushmore, &amp; Washington, D. C.

She is survived by &nbsp;her 3 children: Marvin Ray DeForest &amp; his 
wife Debra; Allen Dale DeForest &amp; his wife Christine; &amp; Bernice 
Ann DeForest Averill &amp; her husband Glen. &nbsp;She is survived by 6 
grandchildren; David DeForest &amp; his wife Jeni, Carrie DeForest, Kyla
 DeForest, Cole DeForest &amp; his wife Robin, Sean Averill, Megan 
Averill, &amp; 6 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Lola is also suvived by her 
sister, Verla LaRue; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Carswell, &amp; many loving 
nieces, nephews &amp; friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Deforest; parents 
Edwin &amp; Juanita Carswell; brother, Richard Carswell; sister Retha

Merle F. Josefiak, 88, of Rush Center, Kansas passed away on July 9, 
2020. Merle was born on November 11, 1931. He was born to John and Edith
 (Wilhelm) Josefiak on their farm located southwest of Rush Center. He 
graduated in 1949 from La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas.

Merle and the former Maxine Renz were married October 25, 1951, at 
the Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center by Rev. Ray Saathoff. He worked 
at Renz Oil Company for 20 years and at the Golden Belt Telephone 
Company for 22 years as a lineman, retiring in 1996.

Merle proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean 
conflict, aboard the USS Naifeh DE-352 from 1951–1955. He traveled to 
Japan, China, Korea and Hawaii during his years in the Navy. Following 
his retirement, Merle and Maxine traveled to numerous states across the 
country, attending Navy “Naifeh” shipmate Reunions.

Merle assisted in and led worship services, as lay preacher, at Hope 
Lutheran Church for many years. He held this opportunity very close to 
his heart.

Merle is survived by wife, Maxine; their two children, David Josefiak
 (Neil Sauder) of Wichita, Kansas, and Lynne Fahrney of Ponca City, 
Oklahoma,; three granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.

Merle was preceded in death by both his parents; and sisters, Loretta Josefiak (infant), and Leola Seltmann.

Merle has been cremated and will be inurned in Locust Hill Cemetery, Rush Center.

Joel Michael Robinson, 66, Aurora, Colorado, died Saturday, July 4, 2020 unexpectedly at his home. 

He was born July 14, 1953 in Emporia, Kansas, the son of David Wallace and Shirley L. (Braum) Robinson.

Growing up in Hays, Joel was active in 
sports and musical activities, and he and his brother Greg started a 
summer program teaching tennis to youth. &nbsp;He was a member of the First 
Presbyterian Church. &nbsp;Joel graduated from Hays High School and Fort Hays
 State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. 

Joel's business career included retail 
management in Kansas and Arizona. He worked many years for Wells Fargo, 
and most recently as an express medical courier. Joel enjoyed reading, 
golf, tennis, and running. He had a high acumen for sports statistics. 
There were several years many of his siblings joined him in running the 
FHSU Alumni Homecoming 5k. 

Joel was known for his dry sense of 
humor, was kind, and had a generous heart and devotion to family. He 
willingly served as the primary caregiver for his older brother for 
several years.

Survivors include five brothers; David 
Robinson of Aurora, CO, Greg Robinson (Gloria) of Weckan, KS, Jamie 
Robinson (Mary) of Topeka, KS, Mark Robinson (Val) of Westminster, CO, 
and Phillip Robinson (Terry) of Aurora, CO, three sisters; Ruth Heffel 
(David) of Lee's Summit, MO, Sheryl Rogers (Leslie) and Sharon Irvin 
(John), all of McCracken, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. 

Graveside services will be at a later 
date at Fort Hays Memorial Gardens.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the

Irmina Juliana (Oswald) Dauber, 82, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at her home.

Julie was born September 2, 1937 in Hays, Kansas. The daughter of Lloyd J. and Irma (Hoff) Oswald. Growing
 up she attended Blue Hill School in Ellis County, Kansas and graduated 
from Natoma High School. She then attended Ft. Hays State University 
where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1959 and a Master’s Degree 
in 1967.

Julie was a devoted Teacher for over 35 years. She worked eleven 
years at Gorham High School as Business Education Instruction then 
transferred to Russell High School to teacher Business courses. She 
taught twelve years for Barton County Community College Outreach 
Program. Later she served 18 years as Secretary and Clerk of the Board 
of Education of USD 407. She worked with Pro-Bound Sports in Dorrance 
and was working towards a Pastoral Administrator Degree. She was a proud
 member of NEA, KNEA, RSNEA, NBEA, MPBEA, KBEA and Delta Kappa Gamma, 
serving in many different capacities. She belonged to the Kansas 
Livestock Association and the Kansas Beef Association. Julie was united 
in marriage to Joe Dauber, Jr. Joe preceded her in death on February 13,
 2003. She enjoyed being an events planning coordinator, facilitator for
 the Ad Astra Program, chairman of Bunker Hill Housing Block Grant, 
Russell County Fair Board Member, being a member of the Midwestern Polka
 club an elector for International Polka Hall of Fame located in 
Chicago, Illinois.

Surviving family include her stepson, Todd Dauber (Melissa) of Garden
 City, Kansas; step daughter, Trudy Line (Richard) of Leawood, Kansas; 
surrogate daughter, Melissa Ann Prosser of Oden, Kansas; seven step 
grandchildren, Addison Dauber (Susan), Brendon Dauber, Aubrey Dauber 
(Gabriel), Connor Line, Emily Line, Mallory Line and Natali Line.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Joe.

Doris was preceded in death by husband Edmund in 1973. She was blessed 
to have married a second time to her husband Robert L. Hartwell who 
preceded her in death in 1976. Also preceding Doris in death was her 
beloved daughter Kristen Warta Schissler, in 2000. 
She is survived by sons, Dr. Mark Warta and Dr. Alan and wife Daren 
Warta; grandchildren Kara Warta, Kyle Schissler, Dr. Leigh Strecker, Dr.
 Trish Barton, Tara Sheets, Brett Warta, Dr. Maggie Hunsicker and Ben 
Warta and 16 great grandchildren.

Jerald J. Hadley, 80, passed away July 8, 2020 at the University of Kansas Health Systems Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.

He was born March 15, 1940 in Ashland to Frank F. and Ida Mae Schumacher Hadley.

After being raised in Shallow Water, KS, Jerald attended McPherson 
College. Upon graduating college, he moved to Larned, Kansas, where he 
was a high school biology teacher, track coach, and a Fellowship of 
Christian Athletes sponsor. He was a member of New Jerusalem Church, 
Pawnee Rock, a Santa Fail Trail Center Museum board member and 
volunteer, member of the Jordaan Scholarship board, Larned Township 
board, and a past member of the Larned Country Club board.

On July 25, 1964 he married Karen Louise Bontrager at Shallow Water, KS, she survives.

Other survivors include: daughter, Kristina “Tina” Landon, Ellsworth;
 son, Eric (Paris Bouchard) Hadley, St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Janet
 (Dwayne) Lyles, Denver, Colorado; brother, Herald (Adrene) Hadley, 
Spokane, Washington; four grandchildren, Kassy (Gunner) Phelan, Kailee 
Landon (Christo Greyling), Michael Bouchard-Hadley, and Melany 
Bouchard-Hadley.

Tina Denise (Wolf) Glendy, age 61, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

&nbsp;She was born July 6, 1958, in Hill City, KS, to Anita June (Goff) and David Francis Wolf.

Tina married Glen Newell, and together they had three children. She was later united in marriage to Paul Glendy on December 2, 1994. They were married for 25 years. Tina was a devout member of the Ogallah Christian Church. She and her husband were directors and she was cook at Cedar Bluff Christian Service Camp from 2000 to 2003. She enjoyed attending church activities, serving elderly members of the community and visiting local nursing homes, cooking, and crocheting. Tina will be best remembered for singing and playing guitar, and her love of her family and her grandchildren.

Tina is survived by her husband; mother Anita Desbien; sons Derik Newell and Darin Newell; daughter Amber (Curt) Wagner; stepsons Adam (Wendy) Glendy and David (Tara) Glendy; stepdaughter Leah (Jeremy) Jech; seventeen grandchildren; brothers Terry Wolf, Rick (Joyce) Scott, and Dan (Marti) Scott; sisters Lorene (Gary) Wetzel, Deb Scott, and Linda (Roger) Clark. She is preceded in death by her father David Wolf and stepfather Elmond Scott.

Tina Denise (Wolf) Glendy

Retired Sgt. First Class Troy M. Ozment, 47, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020. 

Troy was born Oct. 11, 1972, to Jackson and Sherry Ozment at MTN Home AFB, Idaho. He was a decorated combat veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army as a 19D, Scout. His career spanned 20 years, during which he spent two tours in Iraq, where he received two Bronze Stars for his bravery in battle. His last deployment was with 3rd Brigade, 1/33 Cav. from Fort Campbell. He was proud to have served with his Rakkasan brothers. Troy retired in July 2012.

Troy was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching them win the Super Bowl this past year. His hobbies included restoring his beloved 1974 Corvette, playing video games and taking care of his two cats, Lilly and Jasmine.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Irene and Elmer Wetzel; and his mother, Sherry Needham. 

Survivors include his two daughters, Kendra and Kaitlyn Ozment; his father, Jackson Ozment; two uncles, Dale Wetzel and Larry Wetzel; three brothers, Michael Ozment, Tony Needham and Timothy Needham; and a sister, Laurie Eaton. 

He is remembered with love by Joy Womack, Zakk Green, Jamie Green, Lora Ozment and his friends. 

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas.

Troy M. Ozment

George F. Graves, a long time resident of Logan, Kansas passed away 
in the early morning hours of July 7, 2020, at the age of 87 years.

&nbsp; George Frank Graves was born September 27, 1932 in McFarland, KS. 
He was the youngest of six children born to William F. and G. Theresa 
(Flach) Graves.&nbsp; At the young age of nine, George lost his father in a 
tree cutting accident. After his father’s death, George and his mother 
moved to Alma, KS. Growing up in Alma held many adventures for George. 
Being the youngest child, by many years, his older siblings doted on 
him. They took him fishing and hunting as often as they could. George 
graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1950. He attended one 
year at Kansas University before coming back home to Alma. On August 23,
 1958, George married MaryDel Higgins in Logan, KS. To this union 7

&nbsp; George was an avid scout and held many positions over the years 
including: Cubmaster, Webelos Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster, 
Scoutmaster, Explorer Advisor, Order of the Arrow Chapter Advisor, Troop
 Committeeman, District Committeeman, Asst. District Commissioner of 
Coronado Area Council-Tomahawk District, District Commissioner, and he 
was a member of the Executive Board for planning at Salina. He was 
Scoutmaster for Troop 124 in Logan for 35 years.&nbsp; During this time, he 
helped many kids earn merit badges, took them to Scout camp at Camp 
Hansen, on High Adventure Trips, hiking in Philmont and canoeing in 
Minnesota. He took the troop on weekend trips to the scout campground 
near Logan, as well. Many life long skills were taught during these 
adventures. He was so proud of his 5 sons who all earned their Eagle 
Scout Award, the highest award in scouting. He was also very proud to 
call two of his grandsons Eagle Scouts, Joshua and Keegan Graves. So 
even though George never earned the Eagle Scout Award he leaves a legacy
 in his family of 7 Eagles. Over at Camp Hansen he is known as “Father 
of Eagles''. For 44 years, George was a scout, helping out even after he
 retired from scouting.

&nbsp; George was a carpenter by trade. He built the house in Logan, along
 with the help of his sons,&nbsp; in which he lived and raised his family. 
George’s handiwork can be seen in many homes in Logan and Northwest 
Kansas as well as surrounding communities. Many items were lovingly 
built by him for MaryDel and his children. George loved working with 
wood.

&nbsp; George’s grandchildren were the light of his life. They too 
benefitted from his skill with the saw and hammer. He made them toy 
boxes, farm sets, doll houses, trains, cars, etc.&nbsp; A cradle,&nbsp; rocking 
horse, and a rocking chair were built for his grandbabies to enjoy. For 
many years, Dad had a train set erected in the basement storage room for
 his grandchildren’s enjoyment.&nbsp; Dad loved seeing their faces light up 
when the trains went speeding around the tracks..

&nbsp; George was preceded in death by his parents, William and Theresa, 
all of his siblings Edmund, Bill, and Vincent Graves, Viola Allen and 
Agnes Yantz. His infant son Michael, and his wife of 58 years, MaryDel, 
whom he loved dearly and missed immensely.

&nbsp; He is survived by his children. His 5 sons: Thomas of Logan, KS; 
John(Heather) of Castle Rock, CO; Daniel(Susanne) of Splendora, TX; 
Richard(Cindy) of Bel Aire, KS; and William of Georgetown, KY. His 
daughter Anne(Rodney) Palen of Beloit. Eleven grandchildren Collin and 
Austin Gold, Kevin Kellner, Joshua, Keegan, and Matthew Graves, Caleb, 
Alison, and Vincent Palen, Kalie and Logan Graves. Five 
great-grandchildren Grayson, Jameson, Bennson, Kynslie, and Mason. His 
sisters-in-law,&nbsp; Virginia “Gingy” Baskett(Marvin), and Michaeleen 
“Mikey” Flores, both of Mesa, AZ . And many cousins, nieces, and 
nephews.

&nbsp; Cremation was planned.&nbsp; Due to the Corona Virus, the family will have a private graveside service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14th
 at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.&nbsp; The service will be steamed live
 on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel FaceBook page.&nbsp; There will be a 
memorial mass at the St. John Catholic Church in Logan at a later date.

 </figure>George F. Graves, a long time resident of Logan, Kansas passed away 
in the early morning hours of July 7, 2020, at the age of 87 years.&nbsp; George Frank Graves was born September 27, 1932 in McFarland, KS. 
He was the youngest of six children born to William F. and G. Theresa 
(Flach) Graves.&nbsp; At the young age of nine, George lost his father in a 
tree cutting accident. After his father’s death, George and his mother 
moved to Alma, KS. Growing up in Alma held many adventures for George. 
Being the youngest child, by many years, his older siblings doted on 
him. They took him fishing and hunting as often as they could. George 
graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1950. He attended one 
year at Kansas University before coming back home to Alma. On August 23,
 1958, George married MaryDel Higgins in Logan, KS. To this union 7

Mary Venters, 85, died on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Wichita County Health 
Center in Leoti. She was born on January 20, 1935 at Alamota the 
daughter of Ralph Franklin &amp; Mary Maude (McGreevy) Heath. She 
married Eugene Venters on May 16, 1953 at Dighton. 
Mary attended Alamota Grade School and graduated from Dighton High 
School in 1953. She worked as a Secretary at Lane County Feeders from 
1976 to 1996. She was a member of St Theresa Catholic Church of Dighton
 and TOPS. She loved being a mother and grandmother. 
She is survived by her Children- Theresa (Rick) Anderson of Prescott 
Valley, Arizona, Bob (Bonnie) Venters of Dighton, Joann (Bill) Penka of 
Dighton, Galen (Deena) Venters of Lamonte, Missouri, Linda France of 
Leoti, Tim Venters of Dighton &amp; Kathy (Chris) Burlew of Salina, 
Brother- John Heath of Dighton, Sister- Virginia Jasper of Dighton, 23 
Grandchildren and numerous Great-Grandchilden. She was preceded in

Lois M. Towns, 99, died on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at St Catherine 
Hospital in Garden City. She was born on July 31, 1920 at Ness City, 
the daughter of Ronald &amp; Phoebe (Lamourex) Snyder. She married 
Harry B. Towns on September 3, 1939 at Scott City. He died on February 
5, 2004. 
Lois grew up in Ness County and graduated from Ness City High School. 
She then graduated from the Venus Cosmetology School in Wichita. She 
returned to Ness City to work in a beauty shop and, after her marriage 
they lived in Dighton and Shields where she was a cosmetologist for over
 50 years. She and her husband lived in Aurora, Colorado for a time and
 spent winters in Phoenix. She moved to Garden City in 2006. Lois was a
 member and past Deacon of the First Christian Church in Dighton and 
attended the Community Congregational Church in Garden City. She also 
belonged to the As You Like It Club, Lane County Saddle Club, and EHU in
 Dighton. She was a 4-H Leader in sewing and cooking and enjoyed 
playing bridge, going to horse races and, especially attending and 
watching PBR Bull Riding events. 
She is survived by 3 Daughters- Beverly (Don) Schmalzried of Harlingen, 
Texas, Billie (Deverne) Cartmill of Garden City &amp; Becky Braswell of 
Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Son-In-Law- Larry Foos of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, 
Sister- Grace Hessman of Hutchinson, 10 Grandchildren, 18 
Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded 
in death by her Parents, Husband, Daughter- Barbara Foos, Son-In-Law- 
Tom Braswell, Brother- Robert Snyder, 2 Sisters- Naida Moeder &amp; Ona 
Merle Stecklein and in her later years companion- Nick Ortiz, Sr.

Great Bend. She was born on August 30, 1930, at Tulsa, Okla., to Norman 
G. &amp; Lela M. (Aulger) Souther. She met Jerry M. Ward in January at 
KU and they married in September 24, 1949 at Kansas City, Missouri. He 
died May 28, 2014.

A Great Bend resident since 1952, Norma taught in the art department 
and was a curator for the Shaffer Art Gallery at Barton Community 
College until she retired in 1998. She was a member of the First United 
Methodist Church, Pilot Club, Progressive Club, several bridge groups, 
and Art Inc. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association 
and had served on the library board. Norma was instrumental in getting 
the Camp Fire Girls started in Great Bend and was a leader for many 
years. She liked KU sports, art, to travel, and play golf but especially
 enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include, two sons, Martin Ward and wife Janet of Lawrence, 
and Bob Ward and wife Sueno of Tokyo; a daughter, Dana Peters and 
husband Mike of Shawnee; a sister, Mary Wayne Smith; six grandchildren, 
Jeremy Ward and wife Carisa, Christopher Ward, Brian Peters, Kelli Nwude
 and husband Uchenna, Stacy Dirks and husband Chris, and Stefanie Ward; 
and seven great grandchildren, Maddox Ward, Braxton Ward, Sterling Ward,
 Amadi Nwude, Jidenna Nwude, Okezie Nwude, and Corbin Dirks. She was 
preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Jerry M. Ward.

Myrtle Lee (Stevens) Shaw, 86, of Colby, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in 
Oakley, KS. Myrtle Lee was born on January 19, 1934, to Leonard and 
Della Marie (Chapman) Stevens, in a sod house, on a creek, southwest of 
Hoxie, KS. She lived there for 5 months before moving to Hoxie. The 
family then moved to Denver when Myrtle Lee was 4 years old. When she 
was 10, they returned to the family farm by Grainfield. Myrtle Lee 
graduated from Hoxie High School in 1953. 
Myrtle Lee married Dale Rowlison and they later divorced. On November 
30, 1966, she married Gerald Rex Shaw, in Hoxie. They moved to the 
family farm in Selden, with Myrtle Lee’s six children. Rex and Myrtle 
Lee enjoyed farming, going to antique tractor shows together and 
snowmobiling and spending time at their cabin in the mountains. Myrtle 
Lee grew a big garden and canned her vegetables. She enjoyed going to 
her grandchildren’s activities and spending time with them. Myrtle Lee 
was often found sitting in her recliner crocheting another afghan or 
doily, cross-stitching a picture and making embroidery designs on 
pillowcases. Myrtle Lee moved to Colby in 2005, after Rex passed away. 
She enjoyed attending shows by the Western Plains Arts Association with 
her friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex; daughter Dianna 
Rowlison; brother Le Roy Stevens and brothers-in-law, Frank Karnes, Bob 
Randolph, Gail Oliver and Jarold Tex Shaw.

Debra Ann Aldridge, 57, of McAlester, Okla.,, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Family will receive friends&nbsp;from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday&nbsp; at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2020 at Brumley-Mills Chapel in McAlester with Randy Workman officiating.  Burial will follow at Quinton Cemetery.

Debra Ann Aldridge was born on March 7, 1963 in Scott City to James D. and Marjorie Ann (Burr) Simons.  She married Mark Aldridge on March 8, 1994 at Ft. Smith, Ark.  She enjoyed reading and traveling.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Aldridge of the home; sons, Derek Simons of McAlester, Okla., and Chad Aldridge of Fayetteville, Ark.; step-sons, Mark Aldridge of Henryetta, Okla., and Kenny Aldridge of McAlester, Okla.; her mother, Marjorie Ann Motes;  four brothers, Curtis Simons of Emporia, Randy Simons of Dallas, Wayne Simons of McAlister, Mont., and Shawn Simons of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandsons and four granddaughters; aunt, Donna Glenn, uncle, Hiram Burr; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, James D. Simons.

Angela Sue Pride, 36, passed away on July 7, 2020 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

She was born on June 3, 1984 in Houston, Texas the daughter of Ronald Wayne O’Banion and Tracy (Wold) Frank.

Angela was a Certified Nurse's Aide and med nurse. She enjoyed bowling and playing softball.

Survivors include her mother, Tracy, and stepfather, Tim Frank of Ness City; her father, Ronald Wayne O'Banion of Texas; five daughters, Kalila, Autumn, Riley, Makaylah, Kyndall; three sisters, Margie, Dawn, Jennifer; and her boyfriend of six years, Casey Gould.

She was preceded in death by her grandma, Sandra Kreitman and two uncles, Charles and Dennis.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. No service is being planned.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Angela Pride Memorial Fund.

Lee D. Mapes, daughter of Dale D. and Lois L. (Brooks) Arnold, was born May 22, 1950, in Norton, and passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 8, 2020, at the Andbe Home in Norton.

Lee grew up in Clayton, where she attended the Clayton grade school.  She graduated from the Norcatur High School.  On July 13, 1969, Lee married the love of her life, John D. Mapes, in Clayton.  They made their home in Norton, where they raised their family.

Lee was a member of the Norton First United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and the church treasurer for many years.  She had also served as a member of the Norton County Hospital board.

Survivors include:  her loving husband, John Mapes, of their home in Norton; one son, Robert J. (Megan) Mapes, III, Norton; two daughters, Jennifer Lynn (Scott) Aust, Norton; Rebecca Ann ( Ryan) Tubman, Cupertino, California; one sister, Lydia Houk, Cave Creek, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Kylee, Taylor, Morgan and Kevin Mapes, Brody, Jayce and MaKenzie Tubman; other relatives and many friends.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kevin Douglas, and one brother, Clinton R. Arnold.

Lee D. Mapes

Myrtle Lee (Stevens) Shaw, 86, of Colby, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in Oakley, KS.

Myrtle Lee was born on Jan. 19, 1934, to Leonard and Della Marie (Chapman) Stevens, in a sod house, on a creek, southwest of Hoxie, KS.

She lived there for five months before moving to Hoxie. The family then moved to Denver when Myrtle Lee was 4 years old. When she was 10, they returned to the family farm by Grainfield. Myrtle Lee graduated from Hoxie High School in 1953. Myrtle Lee married Dale Rowlison and they later divorced. On Nov. 30, 1966, she married Gerald Rex Shaw, in Hoxie.

They moved to the family farm in Selden, with Myrtle Lee’s six children. Rex and Myrtle Lee enjoyed farming, going to antique tractor shows together and snowmobiling and spending time at their cabin in the mountains.

Myrtle Lee grew a big garden and canned her vegetables. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities and spending time with them. 

Myrtle Lee was often found sitting in her recliner crocheting another afghan or doily, cross-stitching a picture and making embroidery designs on pillowcases.

Myrtle Lee moved to Colby in 2005, after Rex passed away. She enjoyed attending shows by the Western Plains Arts Association with her friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex; daughter Dianna Rowlison; brother Le Roy Stevens and brothers-in-law, Frank Karnes, Bob Randolph, Gail Oliver and Jarold Tex Shaw. Survivors include three daughters, Pat (Dennis) Sharp, of Dighton, Vicky (Kelvin) Sulzman, of Oakley, and Wanda Schritter, of Goodland; two sons, Richard (Nikki) Rowlison, of Jennings and Ricky (Luanne) Rowlison, of Hays; two sisters, Darlene Karnes, of Colby and Maybelle Randolph, of Hoxie; two sisters-in-law, Doris Jean Oliver, of Rexford and Charlene Shaw, of Selden; 10 grandchildren, Susan (Toby) Wilson, of Dighton, Tanya (Chris) Davis, of Norton, Stacy (Brian) Wolf, of Oakley, Kristi (Joe) Hopkins, of Garden City, Teresa (Mike) Connell, of Dorrance, Joe Rowlison, Amanda (Logan) West, of Hutchison, Kayla (Bruce) Weigel, of Norton, Gary (Jessica) Sharp, of Blair, Neb., and Melissa Schritter, of Goodland; 18 great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Myrtle Lee Shaw (Stevens)

Robert Hans “Zip” Zinszer, 81, of Tyler, Texas, succumbed to cancer on Friday, June 5, 2020 surrounded by beloved family members.

He was born Oct. 13, 1938 in San Pedro, Calif., the son of Richard “Dick” H. and Mildred “Mitzy” R. (Hall) Zinszer. &nbsp;

During his youth, Robert’s parents lived in Saudi Arabia, giving him the opportunity to attend high school in Rome, Italy, where his experiences and escapades begot delightful stories cherished by his children and grandchildren.

Also, in his youth and early adulthood, he spent time in Hays, being particularly fond of the time he lived and worked on his Hall grandparents’ Sweetwater Ranch.

Later he joined the military, enlisting in the United States Army where he served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.&nbsp; It was during a weekend furlough, where at a Humpty Dumpty Drive-In, Robert would meet his future bride, Margo Matlock, whom he married on April 16, 1960 in Parkers Settlement, Ind.&nbsp; After leaving his service in the U.S. Army, he later graduated from Fort Hays State University.

Prior to moving to Tyler, Texas in 2018, Robert and Margo lived in Pocatello, Idaho, for 31 years. In 1994 he retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an assistant state conservationist, concluding a 30-year career in the Soil Conservation Service.

Other locations he served and lived during his career were the Kansas communities of Smith Center, Greensburg, Osborne, Strong City, and Emporia, as well as Carbondale, Ill.

An avid gun enthusiast, fisherman and ham-radio operator, Robert was also a card player with a special fondness for cribbage, poker, and “hand and foot."&nbsp; Robert especially enjoyed motorcycling and camping and was a frequent visitor to Yellowstone National Park and its surrounding area of which he often described the landscape as “good-looking country."&nbsp; His love for this area led him and Margo to build their Zinszer Family Cabin outside of Island Park, Idaho, in 1994, a place where they made lasting memories with family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years; Margo L. Zinszer of Tyler, Texas, two sons; Randy Zinszer and wife Cheryl of Flower Mound, Texas, and Shawn Zinszer and wife Kori of Jacksonville, Fla., a daughter; Kimberly Stapp and husband Gary of Tyler, Texas, seven grandchildren; Lacey Stapp, Taylor Stapp and wife Jessie, Riley Zinszer, Carly Zinszer, Brennan Zinszer, Dallon Zinszer, and Kelsey Zinszer, and two brothers; Kendal Zinszer and wife Judy of Anderson, Ind., and Kim Zinszer of Hays.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents; Professor Harvey A. and Laura M. (Laudenslager) Zinszer and Robert E. and Edith (Irwin) Hall, and his sister Toni Kay Zinszer.
