Robert J. 'Bob' Pfannenstiel

Robert J. “Bob” Pfannenstiel, 73, Hays, died Sunday, August 30, 2020, at HaysMed.

He was born November 30, 1946, in Hays, the son of Edwin and Irene (Hammerschmidt) Pfannenstiel.  In 1964, he graduated from Hays High School.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War as a flight engineer and helicopter mechanic.  He attained the rank of Sergeant in the United States Air Force and received two Air Medals. 

Bob worked at Travenol for many years, then worked at Home Steel Siding and Windows and Hess Services, Inc.  On April 21, 2001, he was united in marriage to Roseann Arnhold Rincon in Hays.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, lifetime member of the Hays VFW Post #9076, and former member of the Hays American Legion Post #173.  Bob enjoyed vegetable gardening and also grew beautiful flowers including roses and sunflowers. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.

Survivors include his wife Rose of the home in Hays, a son; Rob Pfannenstiel and wife Nicky of Plainville, a daughter; Shelley Scheck and husband John of Hays, two stepdaughters; Bobbi Pfeifer and husband Jay of Hays and Becky Staab of Arvada, CO, a brother; Freddie Pfannenstiel of Littleton, CO, five sisters; RoseAnn Beltch and husband James of Lawrence, Judith Schomer of Topeka, Diane Pfannenstiel of Sachse, TX, Shiela Houston and husband Wayne of LeRoy, and Brenda Fisher and husband Gerald of Hominy, OK, 11 grandchildren; Dalton Pfannenstiel, Kenzie Pfannenstiel, Jacob Pfannenstiel, Cody Scheck, Caitlyn Scheck, Daniel Staab, Justyn Staab, Morgan Staab, Mason Staab, Weston Pfeifer, and Janessa Pfeifer, a great grandson; Uriah Pfannenstiel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Kenneth Pfannenstiel and a sister; Anita Fowler.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by the Hays American Legion Post #173 Patriot Guard and the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
