Sharron J. Brown, 81, of Janesville, passed away on March 12, 2021, 
at her residence. Sharron was born on May 24, 1939 in Larned, KS, to 
Howard and Norma Zook. She is the oldest of 7 and grew up on a dairy 
farm in Rozel, KS. She married Mason A. Brown on April 25, 1960 at 
Raton, N.M. and had 1 daughter, Adel Ostrom. They moved to Great Bend in
 1966. She worked for USD #428 Central Kitchen as a baker until she 
retired.

Sharron was an avid sewer and quilter. She belonged to several quilt 
guilds and sewing groups over the years. She was a member of Central 
Baptist Church and Eastern Star. She loved to go camping with her 
husband and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Survivors include her daughter, Adel Ostrom and husband Curtis of Mt.
 Holly, NC; a granddaughter, Brandi Johnson and husband Mike of 
Janesville, WI; a grandson, Blaine Ostrom and wife Valarie of 
Owingsville, KY; three sisters, Dolly Hagerty, Carmen Franz, and Zella 
Sanner; three brothers, Mark, Mike, and Ben; and eight 
great-grandchildren, Tamera (Richard), Mason, James, Kaytlin, and Alexis
 Johnson and Courtney, Kelsey, and Christian Ostrom. She was preceded in
 death by her husband, Mason A. Brown, and her parents, Howard and Norma
 Zook.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday March 18, 2021, at 
Central Baptist Church in Great Bend with pastor John Grummon 
officiating. Graveside services will follow at Zook Cemetery in Zook. 
Friends may visit from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving 
friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are 
suggested to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in care of the Bryant 
funeral home.

Delsie Lavon Bittel, 62, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2021, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

Delsie was born August 30, 1958, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Snow and Verla (Dighton) Houchin. She was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, for 12 years, moving from St. John, Kansas. She was a 1976 graduate of Great Bend High School, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kansas, before continuing her education at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, where she received her bachelor’s degree in political science.&nbsp; She was a forklift operator for Fuller Industries, Great Bend, Kansas, before her retirement.

She married Daniel J. Bittel at Great Bend, Kansas.

Survivors include: her husband, Daniel J. Bittel, La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, Adam Houchin, Liberal, Kansas, and Tyler Bittel, Independence, Missouri; one daughter, Melody Bittel, Fort Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Snow Coffield, Great Bend, Kansas, and Sherri Byerley, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jackie Miller; and two sisters, Marilyn Mumford, and Laura Sandberg.

The family will have a memorial service in the future.&nbsp;

Gerald Wayne Doerfler, 81, Codell, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Rooks County Health Center.

He was born June 19, 1939, in Hays, 
Kansas, the son of Alex and Crescentia (Schumacher) Doerfler.&nbsp; Gerald 
was a 1958 graduate of Hays High School.&nbsp; He graduated from Fort Hays 
State University with a Master of Fine Arts Degree and taught art at 
Plainville High School for 39 years.&nbsp; One year of his teaching career 
was spent with his family on the Isle of Tiree off the coast of 
Scotland.&nbsp; On August 11, 1965, he was united in marriage to Judy Lee 
Hachmeister in Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp; They celebrated 55 years of 
marriage.&nbsp; He was a member of Codell Community Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
fixing and building things, gardening, and doing work with his hands.&nbsp; 
He loved ice cream, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Judy of 
Codell, a son: Drew Doerfler of Codell, a daughter: Dayna Crawford and 
husband Kevin of Codell, and three grandchildren: Courtney, Blake, and 
Cody.&nbsp; Other survivors include two sisters: JoAnne Reynolds of Hays and 
Judy Unrein and husband Pat of Arizona, and a sister-in-law: MaryAnn 
Doerfler of Hays.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, five brothers: Bobby, Eugene, Donald, Alex, and James, and four
 sisters: Rita, Ruth, Norma, and Sharon.

A private family burial will be in

Richard "Rick" L. Cooper, 67, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away 
on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Born in Concordia, KS to the late Milton L.
 Cooper and June L. Anderson Cooper, he moved here over 10 years ago 
from Hays, KS.
 	Rick was a high school art teacher before working in the 
maintenance of the athletic department at Fort Hays State University, 
from which he retired. He then started working as a plumbing sales 
associate at The Home Depot.
 	Rick loved his three Shih Tzus — Tumbalina, Rusty, and Tucker. He 
enjoyed art, woodworking, and collecting antique toys. His favorite 
thing to do was run the Saturday Kid’s Workshop at The Home Depot.
 	Rick is survived by his sister, Nancy L. Mills; his brother, Stevan
 F. Cooper; his five nieces, Katie, Susan, Shelley, Janet, and Marie; 
and his great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was 
preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee Cooper; his brother, Alan Kent 
Cooper; and his niece, Jennifer.

Patricia Jean Newell, 76, passed away at home on 
Sunday, March 7, 2021, after a battle with cancer.&nbsp; She was born March 
2, 1945, in Hays, KS, to Lillian (Coupal) and Clarence Grabbe.

She graduated from Fort Hays State University with a BS in Elementary
 Education in 1967.&nbsp; On June 17, 1967, she married LeRoy Newell at St. 
Joseph’s Church in Hays, KS.&nbsp; She taught 2nd grade for one year at 
Bazine, KS and then stayed home to raise her family.&nbsp; She was a devoted 
wife, mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, baking, making 
rosaries and playing the piano and organ.&nbsp; She was a member of the 
Catholic Daughters of Americas, Shepherds of Christ Ministries and an 
Extraordinary Minister for St. Mary’s Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Patrick 
Newell (Cindy), Tim Newell, Stephanie Heier (Roger), Jodie Newell, Kevin
 Newell (Kara), Mary Ewing (John), Sean Newell (Holly), Mark Newell 
(Jessica) and Sarah Labes (William), 25 grandchildren; her siblings 
Frances Gordon (Jim), Donna Farrell (Bob), Wayne Grabbe (Judy), Dick 
Grabbe (Cheryl) and Lorri Leibbrandt (Doug); brother-in-law, Sam Warfel 
and sister-in-law, Kathy Grabbe; and was preceded in death by her 
parents and siblings Marian Warfel and David Grabbe.

Patricia Jean Newell

LeRoy Joseph Rome passed away on February 27, 2021, at the age of 85 years in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.&nbsp; LeRoy was born November 14, 1935, in Victoria, Kansas, to the late Edgar M. and Clara (Windholz) Rome.&nbsp; He grew up in Hays, Kansas, learning the farm life with his Rome and Windholz relatives.&nbsp; 

He attended St. Joseph's Military Academy and graduated in 1953.&nbsp; From there he went on to serve in the United States Army as a Corporal E4.&nbsp; He served in Mannheim, Germany, where he was very proud to have been awarded “Soldier of the Month."&nbsp; When working at a summer job in Denver, Colorado he made his way west to a Golden High School football game where he met a cheerleader named Carole Williams.&nbsp; They were wed on August 30, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Church in Golden, Colorado.

In 1958, he began his lifelong career as an Electrician at the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad where he retired after 38 years.&nbsp; He was heavily involved with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) as a Union Officer and General Chairman for 30+ years.&nbsp; In addition, he served as President of the Rio Grande Credit Union.&nbsp; He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 21 in Golden, Colorado where he served in many officer positions throughout the years.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Golden VFW Post 4171.

LeRoy’s family meant everything to him.&nbsp; They would load up the camper and go fishing in the Colorado mountains when they were young.&nbsp; He was an avid reader of non-fiction books.&nbsp; He was always busy doing or organizing something and never sat still for long.&nbsp; He loved to collect items and had two of everything which made him a very giving man.&nbsp; You couldn’t leave his house without something in your hand.&nbsp; He enjoyed entertaining and his door was always open to family and friends.&nbsp; The most special thing about LeRoy is that he never met a stranger.&nbsp; He formed a relationship with everyone he met.&nbsp; Telling stories and jokes was his very best quality and all have been lucky to have heard him over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Clara, brothers Norman and Timothy Rome, and granddaughter Megan Cook.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Carole Rome of Golden, brother Hubert Rome of Mesa, Arizona and his four children Lezlee Rome (Terry), Terry Rome (Rose), Michelle Wareham (Paul) all of Golden, and Mike Rome (Sandy) of St. Petersburg, Florida.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandchildren, Molly Cook, Emily (Wareham) Valliere, Ryan Wareham, Stephanie Tyler, Sandra Prince and four great grandchildren all of Golden.

Services and celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date.

Katherine F. Roberts, age 91, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, 
at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on 
March 13, 1929, in Leoti, Kansas, the daughter of Curtis D. And Beatrice 
Page Lane.&nbsp; She was a resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1947 moving 
from Leoti, Kansas, and was a nurses aide and a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scott City, Kansas, and the Kansas Rebekahs Lodge.

On April 5, 1947, she married Wayne C. Roberts in Liberal, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on December 2, 2002, in Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors include her Two Sons - Gary Roberts of Scott City, Kansas, 
Major &amp; Kelli Roberts of Scott City, Kansas, One Brother - Ross Lane
 of Baldwin City, Kansas, One Sister - Nevada Parker of Leoti, Kansas, 
Fourteen Grandchildren, Twenty Two Great Grandchildren, and Three Great 
Great Grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, One Son - Jay Dee 
Roberts, One Daughter - Tana Phillips, One Great Grandson - Brett 
Phillips, One Great Granddaughter - Emily Northcutt, Three Sisters, and 
Two Brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021, 
at the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Kyle Evans

Enos Neil Cook, age 77, of Mosca,&nbsp; Colorado, passed into the hands of his Lord March 2nd, 2021, at the Rio 
Grande Inn in La Jara, Colorado. He was born September 7th, 1943, in Graham
 County Kansas. Enos was the oldest son of W.D and Vesta Cook. He was 
active in 4H and played football in high school. He graduated from 
WaKeeney high school in WaKeeney, Kansas in 1962. Enos has made his 
living as a farmer, truck driver and a certified diesel mechanic. He 
loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, riding horses, hiking, 
woodworking, attending church. He loved God and his family. He didn't 
like Fishing.

 of Mosca, his children Rodney (Kalin) Cook of Center, Delena (Donnie) 
Freeman of Chatsworth, Georgia and Dennis; (Angela) Cook of Glenmore,

Rowan Edward Camp, 81, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

Rowan was born May 5, 1939 in Natoma, Kansas.&nbsp; He was one of three 
children born to Elmer Martin and Maggie Gladys (Rubble) Camp.&nbsp; He grew 
up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of 
1957.&nbsp; He attended Emporia State University.

Rowan was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Waudby on November 26, 
1960 in Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three daughters; 
Sandra, Sheila and Stacie.&nbsp; They made their home in the Russell area.

Rowan was a Farmer and Rancher. He worked many years at Mahoney Imp. 
in Russell&nbsp; ,He was a member of St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic 
Church and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; He also was
 a member of the Russell Elks Lodge.&nbsp; Rowan enjoyed fishing, playing 
music with different bands thru out the years, riding his John Deere 
Equipment and having coffee with the Bunker Hill Gang.

Rowan’s surviving family include his wife of 60 years, Patricia of 
the home; daughters, Sheila A. Kuntzsch (Alan) of&nbsp; Bunker Hill, Kansas 
and Stacie E. Mendenhall of Emporia, Kansas; eight grandchildren and 13 
great grandchildren.

Rowan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Curtis Camp, and sister Zetta Hillman.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M on Friday, 
March 12, 2021 at the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church in 
Russell Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in 
Russell.&nbsp; A vigil and rosary service will be held at 7 P.M. on Thursday,
 March 11, 2021 at the church.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.

Patrick Urban Sr., age 55, formerly of Hays, of Saratoga, Wyo., passed away on December 21, 2020, at his home in Saratoga with his family by his side.

He was born on December 29, 1964, in Wichita, KS to Charles and Carol Ann (Legleiter) Urban.&nbsp; He was a 1983 graduate of West Wichita High School.&nbsp; He met and married Dorothy Steckline on August 7, 1998, in Hays, KS.

Patrick was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending his time fishing, and hunting alongside his four boys.&nbsp; Patrick was a cub scout leader and received great joy in developing and fostering young men, he also loved cheering on the Denver Broncos.

He was a Carpenter by trade and for 20+ years worked for Lloyd and Ida Lundy at the Best Western Vagabond Hotel.

Patrick is survived by his mother: Carol Ann Urban of Seldon, KS; wife: Dorothy Urban of Hays; four sons: Joseph Steckline Urban, Charles Urban, Francis Urban, and Patrick Urban, Jr., all of Hays; four brothers: Chris Urban of Hutchison, KS, Steve (Ann) Urban of Galesburg, IL, Dennis Urban of Leoville, KS, and Tim Urban of Seldon, KS; and one sister: Gwen (Darren) Schultz of Grainfield, KS.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.

Memorial Mass will be Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 703 Monroe Street, Ellis, KS 67637, with inurnment following the services in the parish cemetery.

Steven Douglas “Steve” Arnold, 81, of Herndon, KS passed away March 8, 
2021, at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin. He was born on March 19, 
1939, in Farnam, NE to Forrest and Leah (Stevens) Arnold.
 Steve’s father died when Steve was 2 and then his mother and 7 
children moved to Boulder, CO. Steve and his brother Don graduated high 
school in Cambridge, NE where they lived with their Aunt Vera and Uncle 
Lester Johnson. He was in the army for 2 years on the bubby system with 
his brother, Don. They served in Germany.
 Steve married Arian Olson on August 20, 1964, in Boulder, CO. They 
enjoyed Jeeping in the mountains, fishing with his buddies, riding his 
Indian motorcycle, and staying at the cabin they owned in the mountains.
 He was a volunteer with the Boulder Emergency Squad along with several 
of his buddies which resulted in many interesting stories. Steve worked 
as a manager at Neodata but took early retirement due to health issues.
 He and Arian moved to the Olson homestead in 1986. They were owners 
of Times Past Antiques in Oberlin, but later moved that business to the 
farm. They were members of the Herndon Covenant Church. Steve was a 
long-term kidney transplant recipient which was received from his nephew
 Pat Craig in 2001. He enjoyed working with antiques, and especially 
restoring old furniture, rebuilding horse-pulled wagons and other 
antiques.
 Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed (Wanda) 
Arnold, Wayne (Delma Jean) Arnold, Don Arnold and sisters, Carole (Curt)
 Craig, Geraldine (Doug) Morris, and Joy (Don) Hill.

He is survived by 
his wife, Arian of the home; sister-in-law, Nione (Mike) Rhodin, 
brother-in-law, Galen Olson; 18 nieces and nephews; numerous 
great-nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Marshall Young Woodbury, age 87, passed away on Friday, March 5, 
2021, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born 
on March 19, 1933, in Leoti, Kansas, the son of George and Cleo 
Blackburn Woodbury.&nbsp; He was a resident of Wichita County, Kansas most of
 his life. He farmed in Wichita County starting in the 1950’s. Then in 
the 1980’s, Marshall started spending a lot of time in Scottsdale, AZ 
where he bought and managed several commercial properties. He also 
developed property in Garden City Ks for many years. He resided in 
Salina Ks since 2007. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Marshall was a person who did not believe in retirement.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
his business endeavors and continued to manage them until the day of his
 death. &nbsp; Throughout his lifetime he had the gift of a humble demeanor 
and truly cared for people.&nbsp; He enjoyed engaging with people in a 
meaningful way and was driven to help people in all his endeavors, which
 led him to many friends in Wichita County, Garden City, Kansas, and 
Scottsdale, Arizona.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas, and a
 proud member of the NRA. He served on the Leoti School Board, in the 
United Methodist Church, and in other ways in the community.&nbsp; He was a 
skilled carpenter and taught classes in carpentry for 4H.&nbsp; He continued 
carpentry throughout his life and enjoyed making wonderful items for his
 children and grandchildren.

Marshall graduated from Wichita Co High School in 1951 and began 
helping his father farm as well as working in Leoti at several Jobs.&nbsp; On
 February 17, 1952, he married Janene Clark in Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp;They built
 the farm of their dreams from the ground up. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include his Wife - Janene Woodbury of Salina, Kansas; Two 
Daughters - JaLue &amp; Todd Smith of Salina, Kansas, Lisa Cooley of 
Clarkston, Michigan; Two Brothers - Ted Woodbury of Oklahoma and Terry 
Woodbury of Kansas City, Missouri; Sister Phyllis Woodbury Bryant of 
Denver; Six grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021, at

Judi Kaye Jones, 77, of Grainfield, Kansas passed away Saturday, March 
6, 2021, at her daughter Jamie’s home in rural Sheridan County.  Judi was
 born July 31, 1943, in Colby, Kansas to Vernon and Fern (Andrews) Jones.

&nbsp;Her family moved to several locations in Northwest Kansas. Judi 
attended high school in Jennings, Kansas and later received her GED. 
After high school, she married Jim Jones, and they lived in Jennings, 
Kansas. Judi and Jim were blessed with three daughters. They later 
divorced. Judi moved to Oberlin, Kansas where she met and married Bill 
Rogers. Judi and Bill resided in rural Selden and had one son born from
 this union, Yancey. They later divorced. Judi moved to Norton where 
she lived and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, waitress and 
finally as a caretaker for her parents until their death. After the 
death of her parents and as her health failed, she moved to rural 
Sheridan County to live with her daughter. 
 Judi enjoyed being and working outside. She always had a large 
garden that helped feed her family. She loved all animals, and they 
loved her. Rarely would you find her without a dog by her side. Judi
 really loved her family and got great joy being with them and taught 
her children the value and strength of family. She recalled Sundays 
when she was growing up how her family would get together with Aunts, 
Uncles, and Cousins to visit and have a meal. Judi was a loving person.
 Judi leaves to mourn her passing, three daughters, Jamie Chapman
 and husband David of Hoxie, Kansas, Kathy Curfman of Humboldt, 
Nebraska, and Veronica Tomasello and husband Fredrick of Newton, Kansas;

Judi Kaye Jones

Fern Maria Dolezal, 87, passed away March 8, 2021, in Great Bend.&nbsp; 
She was born May 16, 1933, in rural Walker, to Herman Morris and Bessie 
Maria (Barrett) Klotz.&nbsp; Fern married Donald Dean Dolezal October 28, 
1951, in La Crosse.&nbsp;

Growing up in rural Walker and attending school in Gorham, Fern moved
 to Great Bend in 1952.&nbsp; She was a bookkeeper and office manager for 
Feist’s Soft Water, retiring in 2005, previously working for Evansco, 
Hansen Jewelers, Great Bend Tribune, Fuller Brush and Bayless Dry 
Cleaners. &nbsp;She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, CKMC Auxiliary, 
V.F.W. Post 3111 Auxiliary, Lake Barton Golf Club and Women’s 
International Bowling Congress.&nbsp; Fern enjoyed gardening, bowling, 
golfing, and crocheting. Fern especially enjoyed watching her 
grandchildren's activities and spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband, Donald Dolezal, Sr. of the home; two 
sons, Donald Dolezal, Jr. of Great Bend and Ray Dolezal of Hoisington; 
three daughters, Ida Woydziak and husband David of Hoisington, Donna 
Manwarren and husband Tom of Greenwood, Mo., and Jean Jones and husband 
Michael of Hoisington; three brothers, Marvin Klotz and Morris Klotz of 
Nevada, Mo., and Albert Klotz of Bella Vista, Ark.; three sisters, 
Shirley Vincent, Anna Lee Bloesser and Marjorie Johnson, all of Nevada, 
Mo.; twelve grandchildren, Aaron Dolezal, Brian Dolezal and wife Andrea,
 Michelle Jenkins and husband Chad, Matthew Dolezal, Nathan Woydziak and
 wife Melissa, Shawn Woydziak and wife Brittany, Crystal Schroeder and

Fern Maria Dolezal

Rev. Father Dermot Francis Tighe, 89, passed away on St. Patrick’s 
Day, March 17, 2020, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born 
August 4, 1930, to James Tighe and Sarah (McDermott) Tighe in 
Strokestown, Ireland, county of Roscommon. He was the youngest of ten.&nbsp;

Dermot attended elementary school at St. Mary’s Strokestown and 
Cloonfree. At age 11 he won an academic scholarship to attend the 
Diocesan high school at Summerhill College in Sligo, Ireland. Following 
high school, he attended the seminary at St Patrick’s College in Carlow,
 Ireland. He was very involved in athletics during his school years 
particularly the Irish game of hurling.

Dermot heard his calling to the priesthood, and at the age 24, took 
his vows and was ordained on June 6, 1954, at the Cathedral of the 
Assumption, Carlow, Ireland, by the Most Rev. Thomas Keogh, bishop of 
the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. Father Tighe was recruited to 
Kansas by Monsignor John Cody, who was originally from Kilkenny, 
Ireland, and had great success recruiting Irish priests to Kansas. In 
Kansas, Father Tighe was assigned to parishes throughout the Dodge City 
Archdiocese. He served as an assistant pastor at&nbsp;St. Joseph’s, 
Liebenthal (1954-57), and Sacred Heart Cathedral,&nbsp;Dodge City&nbsp;(1957-59). 
His early pastorates were St. Lawrence, Jetmore, with&nbsp;St.&nbsp;Anthony, 
Hanston (1959-61), and St. Francis Xavier, Seward, (1961-65). He served 
as chaplain at&nbsp;Central&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;Medical&nbsp;Center&nbsp;in&nbsp;Great Bend&nbsp;from 1965 to 
1967.

Father Tighe became a United States citizen in 1959, the first week 
he was eligible. In 1967, as Vietnam war escalated, he volunteered to 
serve in the Army, serving as an army chaplain from 1967 to 1976, 
including a year in Vietnam. His first assignment was Fort Hood, Texas, 
and on August 22, 1968, he left for Southeast Asia. There he served on 
the front line and ministered to the infantrymen and gave last rites to 
dying soldiers in the field. Following Vietnam, Father Tighe decided to 
stay in the Army, and was stationed in Ft. McCelland, Alabama, Ft. 
Richardson, Alaska, and Ft. Eustis, Virginia.&nbsp; He also served with the 
National Guard in Washington DC, Dodge City and Hutchinson. He retired 
as a Bird Colonel, which is one rank below a Brigadier General, in 1990.

During his service to the Diocese, Father Tighe held a number of 
diocesan posts including Director of Religious Vocations, Director of 
Hospitals, and a member of the Seminary Board and Priest’s Trust Fund 
Board. Father Tighe also worked in the Tribunal office where he served 
as Judicial Vicar. His later pastorates included St. Andrew, Wright 
(1977-84); St. Stanislaus, Ingalls (1985-91), and St. Patrick,&nbsp;Great 
Bend&nbsp;(1991-97). He was senior priest in residence at St. Patrick, Great 
Bend, until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1998.

Following his retirement, Father Tighe remained where he considered 
home, Great Bend, and was warmly embraced by the faith community. He had
 a prominent presence at St. Patrick Catholic Church and Lake Barton 
Golf course, where he played regularly. Most recently he lived at the 
Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, north of Wichita, where he made many 
new friends. &nbsp;

He has 33 living nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his 
parents, James and Sarah, and siblings, James, Bridie, Mary, Tom, Annie,
 Alice, Brendan, John and Michael.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Throughout his life, Father Tighe showed an unwavering devotion to 
the causes of the poor and the unborn. He donated his home in Great Bend
 to Birthright and was charitable to many other causes that were 
faithful to the book of Matthew that the last shall be first.

A Memorial Mass will be held 5:30 p.m. March 17, 2021, at St. Patrick
 Catholic Church, Great Bend.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the 
Birthright, Holy Family School Endowment Fund or Prince of Peace Parish,

Former Phillipsburg resident Sherrill S. Wark passed away Feb. 8, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita at the age of 55.&nbsp; She was born July 28, 1965, in Wichita, the daughter of Junior &amp; LaDonna (Gruwell) Pflieger.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son Andrew Bach of Hays; 2 daughters, Heather Williams &amp; Katie Bach of Meriden, KS &amp; 4 grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held Friday, March 12, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Ben Ockree officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Sherrill S. Wark 

Joyce Adele Unruh, “Grams/ Grandma,” was a loving wife, mother, 
grandmother, aunt and friend. Joyce lost her courageous fight with 
cancer and “ran” through the gateway to heaven on February 22, 2021, at 
the age of 74. Joyce was passionate about running. We have no doubt she
 ran, not walked, to heaven. 
 Joyce was born on May 13, 1946. She was raised in Garden City and 
attended school there until the age of 17. Joyce married Denton Clyde 
Unruh on September 8, 1963, moved to Copeland, and had a beautiful 
daughter, Bobbi Adele Ferguson. Joyce continued to pursue her academic 
dreams while being a full-time mother and eventually received her 
Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Fort Hays State University. 
 She eventually ended up in Scott City, Kansas, and had another 
child, Denton Allen Unruh. She worked several part-time jobs and 
volunteered at many church and community events while continuing to be a
 full-time mother and wife. 
 Weekends and vacations were full of adventure with Joyce. She was 
very active in clubs, school organizations, and church. Block parties 
and ski trips were commonplace with Joyce. Later, after receiving her 
teaching degree, Joyce spent many hours in the school as a substitute 
teacher and volunteer. 
 Joyce was most passionate about spending time with her family and 
running. There were times the household was woken up by the sound of 
pounding footsteps going up and down the stairs. She had to get that jog
 in. Joyce ran countless 5K and 10K races. She also ran a marathon and 
finished the half marathon accent up Pikes Peak. In addition to her 
active lifestyle, Joyce helped raise her grandkids, nieces and nephews. 
 Joyce was an active member at the YMCA in Garden City and also at the 
Methodist Church in Garden City. 
 Joyce was loved and will be missed. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. 
 Joyce is survived by her husband Denton, daughter Bobbi Ferguson of

 </figure>Joyce Adele Unruh, “Grams/ Grandma,” was a loving wife, mother, 
grandmother, aunt and friend. Joyce lost her courageous fight with 
cancer and “ran” through the gateway to heaven on February 22, 2021, at 
the age of 74. Joyce was passionate about running. We have no doubt she
 ran, not walked, to heaven. 
 Joyce was born on May 13, 1946. She was raised in Garden City and 
attended school there until the age of 17. Joyce married Denton Clyde 
Unruh on September 8, 1963, moved to Copeland, and had a beautiful 
daughter, Bobbi Adele Ferguson. Joyce continued to pursue her academic 
dreams while being a full-time mother and eventually received her 
Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Fort Hays State University. 
 She eventually ended up in Scott City, Kansas, and had another 
child, Denton Allen Unruh. She worked several part-time jobs and 
volunteered at many church and community events while continuing to be a
 full-time mother and wife. 
 Weekends and vacations were full of adventure with Joyce. She was 
very active in clubs, school organizations, and church. Block parties 
and ski trips were commonplace with Joyce. Later, after receiving her 
teaching degree, Joyce spent many hours in the school as a substitute 
teacher and volunteer. 
 Joyce was most passionate about spending time with her family and 
running. There were times the household was woken up by the sound of 
pounding footsteps going up and down the stairs. She had to get that jog
 in. Joyce ran countless 5K and 10K races. She also ran a marathon and 
finished the half marathon accent up Pikes Peak. In addition to her 
active lifestyle, Joyce helped raise her grandkids, nieces and nephews. 
 Joyce was an active member at the YMCA in Garden City and also at the 
Methodist Church in Garden City. 
 Joyce was loved and will be missed. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. 
 Joyce is survived by her husband Denton, daughter Bobbi Ferguson of

Joyce Adele Unruh

Richard “Doc” Allen Mather was born January 9, 1945, in Canyon City, 
Colorado, the son of Charles and Mary (Thomas) Mather. He passed away 
March 6, 2021, in Colby, KS at the age of 76. 
Doc grew up on a farm South of Goodland, KS and attended school there 
until the 11th grade. Doc enjoyed participating in rodeos at a young age
 and eventually had to give up that life when his body could no longer 
take it. He lived on and off with his cousin, Lee and Illa Parker, who 
were very special to him. Doc worked on the T-Bar Ranch South of 
Goodland. He loved the ranch and that way of life. 
Doc married the late Rochelle Ann “Carman” Mather on March 30, 1991, at 
the Colby United Methodist Church. They moved their family to a ranch 15
 miles Southeast of Goodland. Doc continued to do the work he loved at 
T-Bar Ranch until an injury prevented him. They then bought a house in 
Clayton, KS and Doc kept himself busy by working for Brooks 
Manufacturing, in Clayton. After Rochelle’s passing, Doc moved to 
Fairview Estates, in Colby, KS. There he made several friends, including
 Janette Rust, who he became very close with over the last several 
years. 
Doc was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He 
enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as attending N.A. and A.A. campouts.
 He was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Clayton, Alcoholics 
Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, for the last 30 years. 
Survivors include children, Traci (Matt) Wheeler, of Dayton, OH and 
Matthew Heinrich, of Oberlin, KS; grandchildren, Emilee, Hunter, 
Cameron, Mackenzie and Haley; numerous cousins and a host of friends. 
In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his wife 
Rochelle; brother, Charles “Pete”; sister Mary June and grandparents,

Twila Marjean Ninemire, known as Marjean to her friends and family, 
passed peacefully from this life after a long period of illness on 
Wednesday morning March 3, 2021, at Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, 
IL. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 10, 2021, at the 
WaKeeney United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. in WaKeeney, KS. 
Internment will immediately follow at the WaKeeney Cemetery. For those

Facebook. Marjean was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and 
Twila (Howat) Ninemire of WaKeeney, KS. She’s survived by three 
siblings, JoAnn (&amp; Wayne) Driggers of Jenks, OK, Gerald (&amp; 
Rebecca) Ninemire of Madill, OK, and David of Philadelphia, PA. In 
addition, she leaves three nieces and a nephew: Kristy Hoffman, Kaitlyn 
and Jade Driggers, and Auby Ninemire, respectively. Also grieving 
Marjean’s passing are the beloved friends in the Chicago area who 
through the decades had become her “second family” in what might 
otherwise have remained a cold and inhospitable place. Marjean, born 
on December 10, 1947, grew up on a Graham County farm, attended the 
Prairie Home School, and was a member of the Prairie Home United 
Methodist Church. She later attended Hill City Rural High School of 
which she’s a 1965 graduate. She was active in many extracurricular 
activities especially relating to instrumental and choral music. By the 
time she was an adult she could have boasted mastery of several 
instruments. She subsequently attended Clark’s School of Business in 
Topeka, KS where she studied stenography and other aspects of judicial 
court reporting. Soon after graduation she began working in the Chicago 
area, and later began working in Chicago proper with the State of 
Illinois in various circuit courts in Cook County. She served there for 
over four decades and as her friends, family, and colleagues can attest 
she put in long hours, both in the courtroom recording proceedings 
verbatim, and in producing manuscripts of them for the public record. Marjean,
 probably due to the demands of work and the necessity of having a 
private life, did not belong to many organizations or hold what many 
would consider prominent positions in the community. To her friends and 
family, though, who had the benefit of knowing her to be charismatic,

Marjean Ninemire

Leon E. Steffen passed away March 8, 2021, at Country Place Senior Living of Larned.

He was born November 27, 1930, in Larned, the son of Elmer R. and 
Gladys M. Shockey Steffen and he grew up north of Burdett on the family 
farmstead.

A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer-stockman and loved his 
Hereford Cattle which he raised all his life. He was a charter member of
 the Burdett Blue Ribbons 4-H Club; member of the Pawnee County 4-H 
Foundation, serving on the board of directors for several years; he was a
 project leader and community leader for the Burdett Blue Ribbons 4-H 
Club for over 30 years; served on the Pawnee County Extension Council, 
Farmer’s Cooperative of Burdett Board of Directors for several years; a 
member of the Burdett American Legion Post #280, where he served as 
treasurer; and served as treasurer of Shiley Township for several years.
 He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Anchorage, 
Alaska.

On April 10, 1955, he married Beverly J. Waggoner in Hutchinson; she preceded him in death December 12, 2017

Survivors include: a daughter, Marsha (Kevin) Reece, Larned; five 
grandchildren, Tyson (Chelsea) Steffen, Teresa (Brooks) Burnett, Jeffrey
 (Emily) Reece, Phillip (Allison) Reece, Michael (Jessica) Reece; and 
five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beverly, and a son, Michael Steffen.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Burdett
 United Methodist Church with Pastor Linda Doyle presiding. Service will

Bonita M. (Linenberger) Schulte, age 77, of Salina, Kansas, died Monday, March 8, 2021, at her home.

She was born October 7, 1943, in Hays, Kansas to Bonavent and Gertrude (Beck)-Brungardt Linenberger.&nbsp; She married Gary M. Schulte on September 5, 1966, at Victoria, Kansas.

She operated a beauty shop in Victoria from 1962 till 1966 and moved to Hays in&nbsp; 1967.&nbsp; She was a 1961 graduate of&nbsp; Victoria High School, a homemaker, a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp; She and Gary moved to Salina in&nbsp; 2004, and was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Salina.&nbsp; She helped start the TMP Booster Club, enjoyed playing card games, spending time with family, and being there for her grandchildren’s sporting activities.

Survivors include her husband, Gary M. Schulte, of the home; two sons, Travis Schulte and wife, Brandi, Lenexa, KS; Troy Schulte and wife, Sharon, Hays, KS; one daughter, Toni Juenemann and husband, Wayne, Salina, KS; one brother, John Linenberger and wife, Marlene, Manhattan, KS; two sisters-in-law, Carol Linenberger and Norma Linenberger, both of Salina; eight grandchildren, Taylor Schulte; Austin Schulte; Jordan Hixon and husband, Nick; Jackson Schulte; Jaden Schulte; Drake Juenemann; Ashley Juenemann; Joshua Juenemann.

Donald Dean Seachris, 64, passed away March 7, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born May 30, 1956, in Kinsley, the son of Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt and Florine Maxine Rhodes Seachris.

A lifetime area resident, he was a welder at Doerr Metal Products and 
was later an elevator operator. He was of the Pentecostal faith and 
enjoyed painting, drawing, model airplanes, fishing, and lime stone 
carving.

Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia (Shad) Anderson, Medicine 
Lodge; a sister, Betty Moore, Larned; a brother, Danny Seachris, Larned;
 three grandsons, Brandon, Andrew, and Devin Turner, Medicine Lodge; and
 two nephews, Mark Moore and John Moore, both of Larned.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Malea Seachris; a
 son, Christopher Seachris; and a brother, Bobby Lee Seachris.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 
Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Bob Sallee presiding. Service 
will be viewable via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortury. 
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021 at 
Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Clifford V. Campbell, age 99, of Beloit, Kansas, died Monday March 8, 2021 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.&nbsp; Cliff was born on the family farm southwest of Beloit, to T.A. (Pete) and Eliza (Studer) Campbell, on August 20, 1921. He is a Beloit High School graduate.&nbsp; Cliff served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he served as a radar and radio instructor, stationed at Boca Raton, Florida. Cliff received a medal as an expert marksman while there.

Cliff and Irma Faye Huffman were married October 8, 1943, in Beloit.&nbsp; After World War II, they moved to the family farm southwest of Beloit, where they lived for nearly 70 years. Cliff loved farming, and still helped with wheat harvest when he was 93 years old. Cliff and Faye celebrated 72 years of marriage October 8, 2015. Cliff and Faye enjoyed traveling, including taking the family to the World’s Fair in New York in 1964.

Cliff was a member of Pleasant View Methodist Church, the Masons for 50 years, and a member of the American Legion. Cliff was very interested in politics and served as a Kansas State Representative in Topeka, for 14 years. He and Faye enjoyed many functions and made many friends during his term in Topeka. He also served on the boards of many organizations in the community, including Salt Creek Watershed Board for 50 years. Cliff loved history, was quite the story teller, and enjoyed being involved with Mitchell County Historical Society. Cliff enjoyed hunting with family and friends, hosting large groups for pheasant hunting, especially.

&nbsp;Cliff was preceded in death by his wife Faye, and his parents.

Cliff is survived by children Jim (Elaine) Campbell, Jeannine (Ed) Mondero, and Terry (Charlotte) Campbell, Beloit, grandchildren Maria (Robin) Goter, Frederick, CO, Chris (Cierra) Mondero, Ashley Campbell, Christy (Josh) Miller, all of Beloit, Nick (Katrina) Mondero, Hays, KS, Kendra (Jim) Zimmer, Wichita, Trever (Jessica) Heidrick, Beloit, 14 great grandchildren, and his sister Geneva Pearson, Beloit.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday, March 11 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church and will be live-streamed through the Church's Facebook page. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM Wednesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Service. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Historical Society or Solomon Valley Hospice.

Leo J “Jay” Russell passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at his home 
in Natoma, KS, at the age of 85. He was born on December 24, 1935, to 
James and Ruth (Selbe) Russell in Ellis, KS. He was united to Vesta 
(Hrabe) Shannon on November 10, 1968. The couple was blessed with a son,
 Chris.
 Leo grew up in Rooks County and graduated from Plainville High 
School in 1953. Following High School Jay served in the United States 
Air Force/SAC flying the DEW (Defense Early Warning) line where he was 
exposed to nuclear energy flying with atomic bombs. This resulted in 
acute Myeloid Leukemia that caused his death. After his honorable 
discharge he attended Fort Hays State University and then went on to 
teach at Plainville Public Schools until his retirement. He loved 
teaching, flying, gardening, music, and of course his family.
 Left to cherish his memories is his wife Vesta Russell of the home; 
son, Chris (Jennifer) Russell of Cheyenne, WY; and brothers, Jesse 
(Mary) Russell, Dennis (Judy) Russell, Robert (Linda) Russell, Wayne 
(Jean) Russell, Don (Linda) Russell, Charles (Delene) Russell, and Kevin
 (Theresa) Russell.
 He is preceded in death by his parents James and Ruth Russell; 
brothers, James, Jerry, Joseph, and Leslie Russell; and two sisters, 
Louise and Maurita.
 Jay’s request was to not have any services.
 Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Phillipsburg and CASA 
(Court Appointed Special Advocate) and may be sent in care of
