Germaine Mary (Kruse) Weis of Colby, Kansas, formerly of Dresden, 
Kansas, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at 
the age of 100. Born September 3, 1920, Germaine was the oldest child 
of Ben and Barbara (Geisinger) Kruse. She grew up on the family farm 
south of Leoville, Kansas with her five siblings. Germaine attended 
Green Valley Elementary School and graduated from Leoville High School. 
 After receiving her teaching certificate at Marymount College, she 
returned home and taught in rural elementary schools in the area. 
 One day completely out of the blue, she received a call from 
Raymond Weis who asked her out on a date. After a short courtship, they
 were married on October 17, 1944, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic
 Church in Leoville, Kansas. They raised nine children on the farm 
south of Dresden, where they resided all their lives until the death of 
Raymond, and her health started to fail. They had a dairy farm as well 
as farming the land. Germaine made a move to the Prairie Senior Living
 Complex in Colby, Kansas where she lived out the remainder of her life.
 
 Germaine was a hard worker and really enjoyed being outside rather 
than inside. Luckily, being blessed with five daughters who could take 
over the inside work, Germaine could be outside working in her garden 
and tending to her chickens. She canned the produce so the family had 
delicious homegrown vegetables during the winter. After her children 
left home, she would sell the extra produce to neighbors and at the 
farmer’s market. 
 Germaine was a great baker and made delicious cookies, bread, pies, 
and angel food cakes. She also loved to sew, quilt, do crafts, and 
woodworking. She made many of her family’s clothes and enjoyed making 
her grandkids Care Bears, dolls, and many other stuffed animals. 
Germaine also took her handiwork to craft fairs for several years. 
 Germaine was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in 
Leoville and of the Altar Society. She loved her family very much and 
enjoyed her grand and great-grandchildren. They were so important in 
her life. 
 Germaine is survived by her sons, Norbert Weis of Hoxie, Kansas and 
Frank Weis (Esther) of Akron, Colorado; daughters, Joan Long (Carl) of 
Bella Vista, Arkansas, Jane Fleming (Jim) of Lindsborg, Kansas, Jean 
Cech (Joe) of Goodland, Kansas, Dolores Mauck (Roger) of Hoxie, Kansas, 
and Rose Weis (friend Mylinda Mengel) of Round Rock, Texas; 
daughter-in-law Jane Weis of Hoxie, Kansas; sister-in-law Janice Kruse 
of Selden, Kansas; twenty grandchildren and thirty-four 
great-grandchildren.
 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Weis; 
sons, Steve Weis and Robert Weis; brother, Joe Kruse; and sisters, 
Florence Zodrow, Mary Ann Zodrow, Loretta Woodall, and Rita Kruse.
 A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Friday, February 19, 2021,
 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leoville, Kansas at 
10:30 A.M. Interment will follow the service in the Mount Calvary 
Cemetery, Leoville, Kansas. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 
18, 2021, from Noon to 3:00 PM at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, 
Hoxie, Kansas and 5:00 -7:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic 
Church, Leoville, Kansas. A Vigil and Rosary Service will follow 
visitation at 7:00 PM at the church. The family will receive friends at
 the church. Memorials are suggested to the Sheridan County Benefit 
Walk and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Condolences and

at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on May 
31, 1949 in Dighton, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Eva Deliah 
Thomas Ehmke. &nbsp;

A longtime resident of Garden City, Kansas, she was a member of Trinity&nbsp;Lutheran Church in Garden City, Kansas and was a member of Destiny Supports and Special Olympics.

Dolores L. Kaiser, 92, died February 16, 2021, at Clara Barton 
Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born March 31, 1928, on the 
family farm, rural Barton County, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and 
Marie (Birzer) Zink. Dolores was a 1946 graduate of Bushton High School.

A lifetime Bushton resident, Dolores was a homemaker, wonderful 
mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church 
and Altar Society, the Ladies Auxiliary, 3 T Cards Club, and was a 
member of the Red Hat Society.

On July 31, 1947, she married Anthony S. “Tony” Kaiser at Holy Name 
Catholic Church, Bushton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 
29, 2005.

She is survived by three children; Paul Kaiser of Great Bend, Beth 
Foster and husband Eldon of Manhattan, Kent Kaiser and wife Mary of 
Bushton; sisters, Bernice Barnes of Ellinwood, Colette Bailey of 
Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kim Bollig and husband David, 
Eric Kaiser and wife Jessica, Keri Suppes and husband Chad, Brian Foster
 and wife Christie, Kayla Wimmer and husband Josh, Kyle Kaiser and 
fiancee Macey, and Karl Kaiser and wife Caitlyn; 12 great grandchildren 
and 2 step great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Bert Kaiser; 
infant son, Terrence Kaiser; grandson, Kevin Kaiser; brother, Virgil 
Zink, four year old brother, Joseph Zink, and infant sister, Anna Zink;

Phillipsburg resident Janna Constable passed away Feb. 14, 2021, at 
her home in Phillipsburg at the age of 43.&nbsp; She was born July 22, 1977,&nbsp; in Wichita, the daughter of Ron &amp; Glenda (Miller) Powers.

Survivors include her son Damon Beckman of Concordia; her daughter 
Daria Beckman of Phillipsburg; her dad, Ron Powers of Victoria; 2 
sisters: Ronda Jerby of Phillipsburg &amp; Trina Minkler of Victoria 
&amp; 1 grandchild.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00

Mike survived by his wife, Mary Brunk, Uncle Edward Brunk, his children;&nbsp; Steve Buero, Kenny Buero, Christine Yoakum, Mikey Buero and Michelle Patwell;&nbsp; his Mother Sharon Garcia, step father Jess Garcia; Brother Brian Brunk ; (9) Grandchildren, (8) Great Grandchildren , Uncle to (4).&nbsp; He is predeceased by his Father Daniel Brunk; brother William Brunk; Uncles Richard and Lawrence Brunk; and Grandparnts Fenella and Roy Brunk.

Mike was born in Salina, KS on October 27, 1957.&nbsp; He served 4 years in the United States Army.&nbsp; Married to his wife Mary on October 10th, 1982.&nbsp; Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, his grandkids and barbequing with his family after retiring in 2017 as a senior maintenance technician in Anaheim, Ca.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike and Mary built their retirement home in Alma, KS where he enjoyed his time sitting on the porch watching the grass grow and family Fourth of July’s.&nbsp;

Mike was known for his inventions; building a redneck smoker, 21-gun salute for fireworks and his humor, even in bad times he had the ability to make everyone laugh.&nbsp; He was his own person and never would compromise his own beliefs “to fit in”.

Family will be celebrating his life on July 4th, 2021 at their home in Alma for all family who want to attend.

Cindy Rumsey and husband Jim of Woodland Park, CO; 17 grandchildren; and
 1 great grandchild.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021, at the
 Wesleyan Church in Phillipsburg with Pastor Randy Garner officiating.&nbsp; 
The funeral services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial 
Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Gaylord Cemetery, 
Gaylord.

Randy D. Conrad

Stephen M. Gibson, 65, passed away February 15, 2021, at his home in 
Great Bend. He was born August 29, 1955, at Emporia, to Don &amp; 
Delores (Langley) Gibson. He married Susan Evers April 29, 2001, at 
Great Bend.

Coming from Emporia in 1970, Stephen was a Great Bend resident. He 
worked for GBI as a machinist for 25 years. Stephen was a member of 
First Bible Baptist Church and Sons of the American Legion. He loved to 
tell jokes and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include, his wife Susan Gibson of the home; a son, Robert

Great Bend. He was born August 29, 1955, at Emporia, to Don &amp; 
Delores (Langley) Gibson. He married Susan Evers April 29, 2001, at 
Great Bend.Coming from Emporia in 1970, Stephen was a Great Bend resident. He 
worked for GBI as a machinist for 25 years. Stephen was a member of 
First Bible Baptist Church and Sons of the American Legion. He loved to 
tell jokes and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.Survivors include, his wife Susan Gibson of the home; a son, Robert

Stephen M. Gibson

Larry Sheldon Cronk, 80, died on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his home 
in Deerfield. He was born on May 11, 1940 at Santa Monica, California 
the son of Donovan K. &amp; Blanche (Sheldon) Cronk. He married July A.
 Florce on November 9 1958 at Reno, Nevada. 
Larry graduated from Campbell High School in California and joined the 
United States Navy where he served as a Senior Corpsman at Oak Knoll 
Hospital in Oakland, California. After his discharge he attended a 
trade school and became a Union electrician. He went to work for 
Cupertino Electric Company as an apprentice and worked his way up to 
become Service Manager. He then became self employed and started 
Freedom Electric in San Jose, California. He retired early and in 1998 
he moved to Deerfield. Larry was a member of the Flying For Fun Club 
where he enjoyed his passion of racing homing pigeons. He had a love 
for all animals, especially birds and passed on his enjoyment of bird 
watching to his three girls. His most cherished times were spent with 
his family close and his wife by his side. 
He is survived by his Wife- Judy Cronk, 3 Daughters- Kim &amp; Kirk 
Maddux of Deerfield, Debra &amp; Michael Fisher of Cedar Bluff and Dawn 
&amp; Zane Brady of Santa Barbara, California, 2 Sisters- Donna Randle 
and Karen Gordon both of California, 6 Grandchildren and 3 
Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents and 
Grandson- Garrett Maddux.

Former Phillipsburg resident Sherrill S. Wark passed away Feb. 8, 
2021, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita at the age of 55.&nbsp; She was born 
July 28, 1965, in Wichita, the daughter of Junior &amp; LaDonna (Gruwell)
 Pflieger.

Survivors include her son Andrew Bach of Hays; 2 daughters, Heather 
Williams &amp; Katie Bach of Meriden, KS &amp; 4 grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held Friday, March 
12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with 
Rev. Ben Ockree officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Fairview 
Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Patricia Lucille (Kurtz) Peck, 90, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Patricia was born January 18, 1931, in Burlington, Colorado.&nbsp; She was one of four children born to Frank and Alma (Kerr) Kurtz.&nbsp; She grew up and attended schools in Alton, Kansas until her senior year of high school when her family moved to Salina and she graduated from Salina High School.&nbsp; She then attended Kansas Wesleyan College and graduated with a Teaching Degree.&nbsp; Later she attended Fort Hays State University and earned a degree in Education.

Patricia was united in marriage to Wayne Peck on May 18, 1952, in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was bless with three children; Teri, Gordon and Jay.&nbsp; They made their home in Bunker Hill.&nbsp; Wayne preceded her in death in 1999.

Patricia was an Elementary Teacher.&nbsp; She taught at Bunker Hill, Dorrance and Russell.&nbsp; She also worked at KOOD – Bunker Hill.&nbsp; She was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and UMW.&nbsp; She also served the church as Treasurer for many years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Bunker Hill and Delta Kappa Gamma.&nbsp; She enjoyed water and oil painting and playing cards.&nbsp; Everything for her revolved around all her families activities.

Surviving family include her daughter, Teri Wannamaker (Pete) of Topeka, Kansas; sons, Gordon Peck (Ellen) of McPherson, Kansas and Jay Peck of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Joan Dunning of Middletown, New York; five grandchildren, J.J. Wannamaker (Lindsey), Jarod Wannamaker (Rachel), Anna Peck, Isaac Peck and Laura Peck.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Richard Kurtz and sister Barbara Kurtz.

Celebration of Patricia’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 19, 2021 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp;

They had a love that few will know, 
And now that time has come.

Mildred F. “Millie” Smith Lauritsen was born in Colby, Kansas on July 
13, 1934 to parents, Theodore A. Smith and Rosella M. Graham Smith. She
 married Joseph Wayne Lauritsen on December 29, 1951 and joined Wayne 
who was serving in the Navy. After returning home they worked the 
Lauritsen family farm where they raised two children, Kevin and Kathy. 
Actively involved in the community and in their children’s lives, they 
supported the Gem 4H club, Gem Lions Club, Golden Plains High School, 
Rexford and were actively involved in the Presbyterian Church in Colby. 
Anyone who knew her and saw them together would quickly recognize that 
they genuinely loved and adored each other. 
Music was always a part of our family. In addition to playing the 
piano, in later years, Mom learned to play the Autoharp and Dobro when 
they formed the band, Sappa Strings. Together as one of the founding 
families of the Pickin’ on the Plains Bluegrass Festival in Colby, they 
became a staple to the annual talent lineup. With the help of our 
extended family, Bob and Susie McLemore, Dad and Mom made their first CD
 that focused on the music they loved and grew up with. 
During the last year, Mom was admitted to Colby Health and Rehab for 
Alzheimer’s disease. Finally, on February 13 Mom was promoted to 
Heaven. She is survived by my Dad, Wayne and myself, Kevin, my wife 
Darlene, Daughter-in-law, her grandson, my son Ayssah. She joined my 
sister Kathy, her Mother and Father and her brother Milton Smith in 
heaven. 
Throughout her life Mom never stopped learning. Returning to school, in
 her 40’s, she became a licensed beautician and opened County Beauty 
Salon. Later returning to school again, she attended Colby Community 
College. 
Mom will be sorely missed by all our family and friends in the 
community. I’ve never known a husband and wife who were more devoted to
 each other than my parents. One of their favorite songs was “Look at 
Us”, by Vince Gill. 
Due to Covid, we will be holding a graveside service the week of March 
15. We will put a notice in the paper when we have an exact date. In 
lieu of flowers, please consider sending a contribution to Pickin’ on 
the Plains Bluegrass Association and Colby Presbyterian Church in her

Randy James Moore, 32, passed away February 13, 2021, at the 
University of Kansas Health System, Great Bend. He was born February 9, 
1989, at Crystal River, Fla., to Robert &amp; Kathy (Robinson) Moore.

A current Great Bend resident, Randy was the manager at Wendy's. He 
enjoyed playing guitar, singing, dancing and playing pool. Randy loved 
to make people laugh. He especially enjoyed spending time with his 
family.

Survivors include, his father, Robert Moore of Crystal River, Fla.; 
his mother, Kathy Lyons of Plant City, Fla.; his fiancé, Chelsea Guyton 
of Great Bend; two sons, Cameron Moore and Jason Moore; two daughters, 
Emma Moore and Caliyah Guyton; two brothers, Robert Lyons of Hutchinson 
and Jason Moore of Crystal River, Fla.; two sisters, Kathleen Perry of 
Denver, Colo. and Moreen Perry of Inverness, Fla.; a nephew, Bryson 
Moore; and three cousins, Kenny Harmon, Brittany Taylor and Judy Spicer.
 He was preceded in death by a son, Aiden Moore; a sister, Katie Markin;
 his best friend/brother, Dakota Gray; and best friend, Trevis Smith.

Randy James Moore

Maurine Dora Hopkins, daughter of Oscar G. and Mary R. (Shoemaker) Markley, was born September 5, 1925, and sojourned on this earth for 95 years, five months and six days, passing peacefully on to eternal life in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 11, 2021.

At the age of 15, she responded to the call of the Spirit and was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church to which she remained faithful until death.

On August 2, 1959, she married Harvey James Bogert.&nbsp; Together they raised their three children, living in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Baldwin City, Kansas; Amarillo, Texas, and finally moving to Quinter, Kansas in 1985.

Harvey passed on to eternity February 11, 1991.

On March 15, 2011, Maurine married Arthur Hopkins, and they enjoyed nearly ten years together.

Maurine had a positive attitude toward life, and a strong bond with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; She enjoyed doing for others and sought ways to make a difference even as her strength waned.&nbsp; Her family, her brothers- and sisters-in-Christ, and the Quinter community were a blessing to her, and she often spoke of those who called or stopped by, appreciating each one.

Realizing the brevity of life and her failing heart, she asked for and received the anointing according to scripture on September 25, 2020.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey J. Bogert; son, James M. Bogert on October 23, 2020; brother, Marlin D. Markley and wife Maggie; brother, Kenneth O. Markley and wife Naomi; brother-in-law, Albert J. Bogert and wife Lois; sister-in-law, Edith B. Jones and husband Walter.

She will be missed and remembered by her husband, Arthur; daughter-in-law, Gladys (James) Bogert; son, John C. Bogert and wife Cindy; daughter, Mary Alice Bogert; stepson, Kenneth Hopkins and wife Arlene; stepson, Wayne Hopkins and wife Gail; as well as her grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Megan and Madison Bowman, Cody Bogert, Jesse Bogert, Bradley Bogert, Matthew Bogert, Melissa Bogert, Sonya and Tim Hess, Sheila and Dean Mason, Laban and Mandy Hopkins; her many&nbsp; great- grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren each in whom she delighted; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 15, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Big Creek Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Quinter.

Maurine Dora Hopkins, daughter of Oscar G. and Mary R. (Shoemaker) Markley, was born September 5, 1925, and sojourned on this earth for 95 years, five months and six days, passing peacefully on to eternal life in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 11, 2021.At the age of 15, she responded to the call of the Spirit and was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church to which she remained faithful until death.On August 2, 1959, she married Harvey James Bogert.&nbsp; Together they raised their three children, living in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Baldwin City, Kansas; Amarillo, Texas, and finally moving to Quinter, Kansas in 1985.Harvey passed on to eternity February 11, 1991.On March 15, 2011, Maurine married Arthur Hopkins, and they enjoyed nearly ten years together.Maurine had a positive attitude toward life, and a strong bond with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; She enjoyed doing for others and sought ways to make a difference even as her strength waned.&nbsp; Her family, her brothers- and sisters-in-Christ, and the Quinter community were a blessing to her, and she often spoke of those who called or stopped by, appreciating each one.Realizing the brevity of life and her failing heart, she asked for and received the anointing according to scripture on September 25, 2020.She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey J. Bogert; son, James M. Bogert on October 23, 2020; brother, Marlin D. Markley and wife Maggie; brother, Kenneth O. Markley and wife Naomi; brother-in-law, Albert J. Bogert and wife Lois; sister-in-law, Edith B. Jones and husband Walter.She will be missed and remembered by her husband, Arthur; daughter-in-law, Gladys (James) Bogert; son, John C. Phillipsburg resident Freda Faye Redinger passed away Feb. 14, 2021,&nbsp; at the Hays Medical Center at the age of 85.&nbsp; She was born July 5, 1935,&nbsp; in Kirwin, the daughter of Stanley &amp; Lillian (Kane) Cox.

Survivors include her sons: Don of Kansas City, Bob &amp; Terry of

Freda Faye Redinger 

Donna Kay (Schmidtberger) Albrecht, age 75, of&nbsp; Russell, Kansas, died Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Hays Medical Center.

Donna was born March 22, 1945, in Russell, Kansas, to Luetta May 
(Turner) and Herman Francis Schmidtberger. Donna grew up in the Fairport
 and Paradise area. Her family moved to Gorham, Kansas her Junior year 
where she graduated from Gorham High School in 1963. She was married to 
her high school sweetheart, and the love of her life Dennis Albrecht on 
July 7, 1963, in Paradise, Kansas. They made their home in Russell and 
moved into their current home in 1969. They celebrated their 50th&nbsp;Wedding Anniversary in 2013. This union was blessed with two daughters, Debra and Tamera.

Donna worked many different jobs including cooking at Gutierrez 
Mexican Restaurant in Russell, Yost Oil Operations, Russell County 
Appraiser’s Office, State Farm Insurance and then retiring from Dr. 
Donald Kuehn and Dr. Paul Llampert’s Optometric Office. She was member 
of St John Lutheran Church, Russell.

Family was the most important thing in her life! She was at every 
volleyball match, baseball game, wrestling match, tennis match and 
motorcycle race possible. The family took many trips together, most 
recently to Hawaii in early 2020. They enjoyed camping on their many 
different camping trips as well as Lake Wilson.

Donna loved to cook! She is famous for her bierocks and bread, and 
for knowing the recipes of Gutierrez’s favorites. She was a very active 
member of the RRH Auxiliary and loved to sew anything and everything and
 made multiple masks for the hospital to use for patients. Her biggest 
role was acting as President and organize the Annual Soup Supper for the
 past several years. She also helped with multiple blood drives as a 
member of the Auxiliary.

She collected cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, and anything else
 that caught her eye. Donna and Dennis were also avid motorcycle riders 
and took many trips on their Goldwing during their younger years. They 
also loved to go rendezvous with any muzzle loader club around. They 
were very active in the Russell Muzzle Loader club and helped to 
organize the annual shoot. Donna and Dennis also traveled on many Vosh 
trips to Panama delivering eyeglasses to the needy. Other hobbies were 
antiquing, auctions, and thrift shopping.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dennis, of the home; 
daughters Debra Morris (Case) of Russell, Kansas and Tamera Krause 
(Richard) of Russell, Kansas; four grandchildren, Coady Morris, Kale 
(Elizabeth) Morris, Nathan Krause and Ryan Krause; one great grandchild 
Noah Morris, with another one on the way. She is preceded in death by 
her parents, and two brothers, Charles Schmidtberger and Larry 
Schmidtberger.

Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, 
February 19, 2021, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.&nbsp; Burial 
will follow at Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Paradise, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will
 be held from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends

Norma Jean (Gagna) Anderson, 92, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Norma Jean was born on February 10, 1929, on the family farm near Rice, Kansas, the daughter of Elzear H. and Ida Maude (Hanna) Gagna.&nbsp; Her family attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Aurora where she was baptized.&nbsp; The family lived on farms in the Aurora and Concordia areas and attended country schools through the eighth grade.&nbsp; Her family moved to Concordia, Kansas, in April 1943, and she graduated from Concordia High School and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic High School.&nbsp; Norma Jean met her future husband, James W. (Jim) Anderson in 1946, following his return from service in the Army.&nbsp; They were united in marriage on October 14, 1946, in Concordia and moved to Russell, Kansas, in 1947.&nbsp; From this union Norma Jean and Jim were blessed with a son David.&nbsp; Norma Jean was a devoted wife and homemaker.&nbsp; She worked outside the house as an Avon representative, cook at the Russell High School, Travenol in Hays, Kansas and as a receptionist for Dr. Kuhn’s office.&nbsp; Norma Jean and Jim were longtime members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; After 65 years of marriage, Jim preceded her in death on September 20, 2012. &nbsp;

Norma Jean enjoyed being involved in church activities, working with the youth organizations, church dinners, banquets and St. Mary’s Catholic Guild.&nbsp; She was also involved with the Salina Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, Russell County 4-H Fair, and working with her husband in the Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; She was very proud in helping put together the Knights of Columbus cookbook, featuring recipes submitted by K of C wives where over 11,000 cookbooks were sold.&nbsp; She also enjoyed being a fulltime wife and mother to her husband and son David.&nbsp; Most of all she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Norma Jean is survived by her son, James David (Lisa) Anderson; Grandchildren Tiffinie (Monte) Mai, and Tammie (Kris) Schultz; Great Grandchildren, Lane Earlin Mai, Braden David Mai, Bailey Lynn (Sam) Kilian and Great Great Grandchildren, Brantley John, Oaklynn Alene and Emery Layne, all of Russell.

Norma Jean was also preceded in death by her parents; her five Gagna brothers, Alden, Duane, Dean, Hobart and Harold, and her two sisters Bernice Trahan and Fedora Mae Nobert. &nbsp;

A celebration of the funeral mass for Norma Jean will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Wednesday, evening.&nbsp;

Frances “Francie” Hurd Herman, 65, of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021. She
 was born June 12, 1955, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Bruce and 
Nancy (Shell) Hurd. She graduated from Topeka West High School in 1973, 
and went on to attend The University of Kansas, graduating in 1978. Growing
 up an only child, Francie kept in touch with many friends and 
relatives, was a proud fan of her Jayhawks, spent weekends taking her 
dog, George, to the dog park, and above all enjoyed being a mother of 
four and grandmother of five. Francie worked numerous jobs, the 
last fifteen years as a legal assistant at the Law Office of Cooper and 
Lee, and then Sloan Law Firm. Survivors include her four 
children, J. Alex Herman, Carly Slattery (Kayle), Maddie Walker 
(Stephen), Zach Jeffries; five grandchildren Brayden and Sammie 
Staley-Herman, J.T. Slattery, and Emerson and Stevie Walker; and her 
dog, George. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, and a brother that died in infancy. A
 Celebration of her Life will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 19,

Frances 'Francie' Hurd Herman

Helen Ruth Hoff died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was 92 years old.

Ruth was born January 9, 1929, in Park, Kansas. She was the daughter 
of John and Dorothy (Dreher) Krannawitter. Ruth graduated from Hoxie 
High School in 1947 and worked as a telephone operator in Colby, KS. On 
November 18, 1950, she married Robert Hoff and went on to celebrate 54 
years of marriage before his death in 2004.

Ruth then moved to Baldwin City, KS and enjoyed her life there as a 
member of Annunciation Catholic Church and as a regular at Baldwin Rec 
Center. She loved playing cards with her friends, was a loyal fan of 
Tiger Woods, and enjoyed all sports. She loved attending any event that 
her grandchildren were involved in, always as their biggest fan. She 
loved her lady friends, her flowers, shopping, and was always ready to 
try a new restaurant. In short, she dearly loved life.

Ruth is survived by seven children, fourteen grandchildren, and six 
great grandchildren. Children and family include: Sally Brackney and 
husband Clark of Atlantic City, New Jersey, their daughter Megan and 
husband Jon and their daughter Bea of Brooklyn, New York, son Carson 
Brackney and wife Sherri, children Eva and Amelia of Shawnee, KS; 
Kathleen Hoff and husband Doug Harvey of Kansas City, Missouri, their 
daughter Amanda Lengal&nbsp;and her husband Frank and children Isabella and Vaughn of Powell, Ohio,&nbsp;son Eric Napolitano of Overland Park, KS, his son Marco of Lawrence, KS;
 Robbie Lamoreux and husband Gary of Baldwin City, KS, their daughter 
Katrina Watson of Lawrence, KS, son Brian of San Diego, California; 
Beverly Shown of Topeka, KS, her son Austin of Topeka, KS, daughter 
Audrey and her partner Jose Rodriquez of Overland Park, KS; Cynthia 
Taylor-Bigge and husband Stephen Bigge and daughter Rosalyn of

Tamara "Tammi" Kay Barnes, age 59, of Goodland passed away February 3, 2021 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Tammi was born February 7, 1961 to James and Janice (Smith) 
McClelland in Goodland. She spent her childhood in Goodland, where her 
father and mother owned the local Yamaha dealership. She enjoyed time 
spent riding her horse and watching her brother race motorcycles.&nbsp;

On April 28, 1978 she married Roger Skrdlant. To this union three children were born, Christopher, Carla and Jill.

Tammi enjoyed gardening, crafting, traveling, dearly loved spending 
time with her family and friends, and had a special talent for making 
any and everything beautiful.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; brother, Jimmy McClelland; and niece, Jenny McClelland.

Tammi is survived by her son, Christopher Skrdlant of Kearney, NE; 
daughter, Carla Sumner and her children Skylar, Clayton, and Caleb 
Sumner of Norton, KS; daughter, Jill (Jamie) Dole and her children Gage,
 Jace, and (baby due in March) of Norton, KS; sister, Rhonda (Dale) 
Skrdlant of Alliance, NE and their son Jeremy of Goodland, KS; nephew, 
Tyler McClelland of Goodland, KS; and special friend, Larry Hachmeister

Donna Jean Olsen, 90, passed away Friday February 12, 2021, at River 
Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend. Donna was born July 4, 1930, in 
Graettinger, Iowa to Melvin and Verna (Allen) Bratrud. She was united in
 marriage to Gaylord Dean Olsen on August 22, 1949, at Blakjer Lutheran 
Church in Palo Alto, County, Iowa. He passed away October 31, 2014.

Donna has been a resident of Great Bend since 2004 coming from 
Graettinger, Iowa, to be close to her daughters. She was a member of 
Trinity Lutheran Church. Donna enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons Danny Lee Olsen and wife Vickie of Des 
Moines, Iowa and Mark Allen Olsen and wife Cheryl of Atlanta, Georgia; 
two daughters, Diane Kay Olsen and Coleen Mossberg both of Great Bend; 
one brother Alan Bratrud of Jackson, Minnesota; one sister Judy Olson of
 Mankato, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Trevor Olsen and Shannon 
Mossberg, and three great grandchildren, Shyanna Kuehler, Sheridan 
Kuehler and Hadley Olsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, 
husband and a sister Marlys Macomber.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A 
celebration of Life will be held Saturday, 2:00-4:00 p.m. February 20, 
2021 at Kansas Trophy Experience Lodge, 54 SE 10 Rd. Great Bend. 
Memorial service will be held at a later date in Graettinger, Iowa.

Memorial is suggested to the St Jude Children Hospital, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Father Ultan Patrick Murphy, 94, passed away February 12, 2021, at 
River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend. He was born January 6, 1927, in 
Quarrylands, Dunboyne, County Meath, Ireland, to James &amp; Katherine 
(Connolly) Murphy.

He attended Batterstown National School and St. Finian’s College in 
Mullingar and studied philosophy and theology, as a seminarian, at St. 
Peter’s College in Wexford, Ireland, from 1947 to 1953. Father Murphy 
was recruited as a seminarian by the Diocese of Wichita. He was ordained
 into priesthood June 7, 1953, by the Most Rev. James Staunton, bishop 
of Ferns, at St. Peter’s Seminary, Wexford, and offered his First Holy 
Mass in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Dunboyne.&nbsp; Following his ordination,
 Father Murphy was sent to the newly-established Diocese of Dodge City 
by Bishop Mark K. Carroll with classmates, Fathers Eugene Kenny, Andrew 
McGovern and Kieran Murray.&nbsp;

Father Murphy served as assistant pastor of St. John’s, Hoisington, 
and St. Rose of Lima, Great Bend. His pastorates included: St. Mary Help
 of Christians, Loretto, (1960-65); St. John, Kiowa, (1965-66); St. 
John’s at St. John, with St. Francis Xavier, Seward as a mission 
(1966-1970); Holy Rosary, Medicine Lodge, with St. John, Kiowa (1970-80)
 and St. Ann, Olmitz, with Holy Trinity, Timken (1980-2014).&nbsp; At the 
time of his retirement on Jan. 3, 2014, Father Murphy, then 87, had the 
distinction of being the oldest active Catholic pastor in the Kansas. He
 was resident pastor at Olmitz for 33 years.

He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus for the Olmitz Council #2100. 
He was always ready to share a good joke, and enjoyed fellowship with 
friends, golf, horse racing, and in his younger years, long walks. &nbsp;

Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including a special niece,
 Joanie Phelan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, 
James Murphy, Vincent Murphy, Brendan Murphy, O'Connell Murphy, Eithne 
Sheridan and Rosaleen Shanahan; and a nephew, Con Murphy.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Knights of Columbus Rosary and Vigil 
service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 
a.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, 
with Bishop Jerry Vincke presiding. Interment will be in St. Ann 
Cemetery, Olmitz. Memorial contributions may be made to Women's 
Initiative Network, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, or to the Seminarian
