County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas. He was born on August 5, 1942, in 
rural Ness City, Kansas to Jack and Helen (Talbert) Sheldon.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, December 4, 2021, 10:30 A.M., at
 Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas. Burial in the Ness City

Loretta Carolyn Ray (Carolyn) age 82, passed away on Saturday, 
November 20th at Scott County Hospital.&nbsp; She was born in Tribune Ks on 
October 25, 1939, to Willy C and Lulanell Dealy Ray.&nbsp; She was the 
youngest of 3 girls, Retha Roena Ray Hubbs, &nbsp;and Lorene Ray Giesick.&nbsp; 
Carolyn attended school in Greeley County where she graduated and went 
on to college at Hays University where she studied to be a radiology 
technician. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Carolyn then went on to Kansas City to do her clinical rotations at 
St Joseph Hospital. &nbsp;Carolyn worked there for a few years and then went 
to work for a group for physicians Dr. Bakey and Dr. Gentrey where they 
became a close nit family. &nbsp;She worked there as RAD Tech, a phlebotomist
 as well as cleaned the office until she retired after 35 years of 
service. &nbsp;Carolyn loved to help people and enjoyed being with friends. 
&nbsp;She had a bar for a few years in Kansas City named the WindJammer where
 she met many friends. &nbsp;Carolyn was a caregiver when she left Kansas 
City in early 2000 and moved to western Kansas to help with her older 
sister's care Retha who had Alzheimer’s.

Carolyn left there and moved to Oklahoma to help her best friend in 
life Betty and her sister Mary with their ailing mother Wanette Pistole.
 When Wanette passed on Betty and Carolyn moved back to Kansas City 
where Carolyn stayed and cared for Betty when she became ill. &nbsp;After 
Betty passed &nbsp;Carolyn moved to Scott City Ks in 2016 where she could be 
closer to her nephew and niece, Rick and Kody Rogers, and family. 
&nbsp;Carolyn enjoyed her weekly get-together with friends and family, where 
she always beat everyone at marbles even though she was legally blind.&nbsp; 
She loved collecting anything that had to do with wolves, spending time 
with family and friends, and caring for people. &nbsp;

Carolyn surviving family includes - 6 nieces and nephews and their 
spouses: Dennis Hubbs of Saratoga, Wyoming, Penny and Albert Twomey of 
Wright, Wyoming,&nbsp;Jana and Neal Raider of Richmond, Virginia, Kim and 
Georgia Hubbs of Templeton, California, Tim and Sam Giesick of Leoti, 
and Kody and Rick Rogers&nbsp;of Scott City many great-nieces and nephews. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Carolyn's wishes were to be cremated and her ashes spread with her 
older sister Retha and her brother-in-law Dale in Wyoming.&nbsp; There will 
be a private memorial in Wyoming in July for family and friends where 
Carolyn, Retha, and Dale’s lives will be celebrated. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorial In Lieu of Flowers may be written to the American Cancer Association.

Lifelong resident of St Francis, Ilone Mary Ketter, age 102, passed 
away early Wednesday morning November 24, 2021 at the Rawlins&nbsp;County 
Health Center.&nbsp; She was born May 4, 1919 to Nick and Merle (Bretthauer) 
Oster on a farm southeast of Wheeler, Kansas.

Shortly after she was born, she moved with her parents and older 
sister Leone to a small farm southeast of St Francis.&nbsp; Two younger 
sisters, Doris and Carole were born there. She attended school through 
8th grade at Sunny Ridge District 44 and high school in St Francis, 
graduating with the class of 1938.&nbsp; She married Celestine (Sally) Ketter
 on August 10, 1938, in St Francis.&nbsp; The newlyweds made their home in St
 Francis, where their first child was born. Shortly after they purchased
 a farm southeast of St Francis, where their family continued to grow.&nbsp; 
Within 10 years the family was complete when twins “unexpectedly” 
brought the number of children to six, three girls and three boys that 
all attended the same country school and high school as their mother.&nbsp; 
Ilone an excellent cook, baked a cake or cookies nearly every day before
 packing school lunches, and would make a meal for her growing family 
and any unexpected guests at a moment’s notice, from whatever she had on
 hand.

After her children were grown, she launched a new career as an 
employee and businesswoman.&nbsp; She worked at the Good Samaritan Village 
for a short time, then began cooking at the Wheel Inn Cafe and 
eventually became owner.&nbsp; Later, she purchased Daylight Donut Shop in St
 Francis which she operated until the death of Celestine in 1979.&nbsp; Over 
the years, Ilone participated in BPW and chamber of commerce 
activities.&nbsp; After retirement she enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and 
cards, volunteering at the senior center as a cook, the thrift store 
cashier, and cards with residents at the Good Samaritan Village.&nbsp; She 
was a active member of the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and 
Christian Mother’s Alter Society, and known to bake for many benefits 
and food sales.&nbsp; Ilone remained in her own home and loved looking 
forward to visits with friends and family.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children: Connie Johnson of Liberal; Karen 
(Vernon) Isaac of Goodland; Kenneth (Sherryl) Ketter of Kanorado; Gary 
Ketter of Dayton, OH; Sherry (Don) Gilliland of Bird City; 18 
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; 
and a host of family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Nick and Merle; in-laws, 
John and Clara Ketter; husband, Celestine; son, Ronald (Sally);

Kathleen Holloway, 93, of Osborne, KS passed away at&nbsp;home on 
Saturday, November 27, 2021. &nbsp;She was born on March 21, 1928, in Lebanon,
 KS to Jessie Elmer &amp; Lela Maude Davis.

She graduated from Alton High School in 1946. &nbsp;While she was in Alton, she worked at the Post Office for a while.

Kathleen met Billy Don Holloway &amp; they were later married. &nbsp;To this union, 3 children were born.

She moved to Osborne in 1968. &nbsp;While she was a busy mother of 3, she 
was a retail clerk for the&nbsp;local Duckwalls &amp; the Donut Shop. 
&nbsp;Kathleen attended the United Christian Church of Osborne.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Billy Don
 Holloway on February 1, 2008,&nbsp;1 son, Ron Holloway in 1999 &amp; 1 
grandchild.

She&nbsp;is survived by 1&nbsp;son: Brian Holloway of Osborne, KS; 1 daughter: 
Linda Goodale of Denver, CO; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 2 
great-great grandchildren; and a host of friends.

John L. Waelchli, 79, of McCracken, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 26th, at his home.

John was born July 9th, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Laverne Waelchli.

He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Boardman High School in 1960.

He joined the US Navy in 1960 and served for 6 years.

On September 5th, 1970, he married Carol J. Benjamin who preceded him
 in death on April 3rd, 2020. &nbsp;They lived in California, Washington, New
 Mexico and then moved to McCracken in 2000.

John retired from GTE in 1999. &nbsp;He enjoyed training horses, cooking, 
shooting both bows and guns. &nbsp;He also loved his role as Santa Claus for 
the kids of McCracken.

He is survived by his only daughter, Dr. Jess Braun and her husband 
Curt of Hays, Kansas; grandchildren, Alec Waelchli, Isabelle Braun, 
Addie Braun, and Mabel Braun; and his two cats.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and many beloved dogs and cats.

Dorothy A. "Dodie" Waiksnis, 89, formerly of Newton, passed away Saturday evening, November 27, 2021, at the UnityPoint Health Center in Marshalltown.  

   A funeral service for Dodie will be at a later date, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements.    Dodie the daughter of Arie and Hattie (Bruxvoort) Olsthoorn, was born July 25, 1923, in rural Jasper County, Iowa.  She attended rural Jasper County schools and graduated in 1949 from Kellogg High School.  After graduation she moved to California, where she met her first husband, Alvin Copelin.  Alvin passed away in 1987.

  In 1997 she married Joseph Waiksnis and they had their home in Wyoming, Arizona and Montana, before moving back to Iowa.  She worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for several local businesses.  She was a member of the ladies' auxiliary of the VFW, having held several offices, including treasurer and president.  She was a member of the Newton Christian Reformed Church.  She enjoyed bowling, horses, Pony Express and her garden. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.  

   She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Alvin Copelin; her brother Marion and a sister Harriet Van Wyk; a sister-in-law Sara Olsthoorn; a brother-in-law Walter Van Wyk; a stepson Lenny Stadtmiller.

   She is survived by her siblings Gerald (Pansy) Olsthoorn of Hays, Kansas; Ardella (John) Burr of Newton; Ruth (Ron) Graham and Harvey (Sandra) Olsthoorn of Kellogg, step-grandchildren: Dana (Andrew) Anderson of Kellogg and Andrea Lawson of Des Moines; her 7 great grandchildren: including Makatlyn and Khryssa Anderson of Kellogg.

She was born September 10, 1923, &nbsp;in Mitchell County, Kansas to Joseph and Elizabeth (Feil) Smith. Genevieve graduated from Tipton High School in 1940. On September 2, 1946, she married Melvin “Bob” Robert Brown in Beloit, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2001. She was a secretary and receptionist at King Financial Services for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays, a 75-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha the international &nbsp;community service sorority and a member of the Hays Daughters of Isabella. Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Patricia Frost and husband Wendell of Renton, Washington; sons, Roger Brown and wife Kathy of Oswego, Illinois, and Steven Brown of Hays; seven grandchildren; &nbsp;nine great grandchildren; as well as a sister, Mary Ann Roberts of Beloit. She was a secretary and receptionist at King Financial Services for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays, a 75-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha the international &nbsp;community service sorority and a member of the Hays Daughters of Isabella. Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Patricia Frost and husband Wendell of Renton, Washington; sons, Roger Brown and wife Kathy of Oswego, Illinois, and Steven Brown of Hays; seven grandchildren; &nbsp;nine great grandchildren; as well as a sister, Mary Ann Roberts of Beloit. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Thomas. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 3, 2021, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. James Phillips “Phil” Busenbark, 89, passed away November 26, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

Phil was born on January 11, 1932, in Larned, the son of James Walton and Maude Ester Phillips Busenbark.

He was a lifetime area resident, a Teacher, Psychologist, Coach, and 
sports enthusiast. Phil retired as a Psychologist at the Iroquois Center
 for Human Development in Greensburg, KS at the age of 86.

On June 6, 1954, he married Meribeth Mae Turner in Belpre, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include: daughter Janet (Andrew) James, Raymore, MO; 
son Eric (Jennifer) Busenbark, Lenexa, KS; three grandsons, Phillip Dale
 James, Kansas City, MO, Elijah Turner James, Raymore, MO, and Eric 
Brandon Busenbark, Kansas City, MO; two great granddaughters, Emma James
 and Bentlee James. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, a son, 
James Phillips “Little Phil” Busenbark II, and a great grandson, Riddick
 Issac Turner James.

Family, church, and sports were Phil’s passions. He was a member of 
the First Baptist Church in Rozel, KS, served as the Rotary Club 
President in Larned, and was on the school board and church board in 
Larned and Rozel. Phil participated in various sports as he grew up, and
 was a college letterman on the track team at Fort Hays. He taught and 
coached high school basketball at Collier, KS and Rozel High Schools and
 coached the Larned Cobras girls’ fast pitch softball team. Phil 
refereed high school basketball games for years, and attended the 
National Junior College Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, KS for more
 than thirty years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and Phil and 
Meribeth were regulars on the golf course at the Larned Country Club for
 many years. They were dedicated travelers, and enjoyed many ocean 
cruises with friends and trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Branson, 
MO with family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 4, 
2021, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Charles “Buddy” and Judi Tabler 
presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 3, 
2021, with family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. 
Inurnment will be in the Belpre Cemetery, Belpre, KS.

James Phillips 'Phil' Busenbark

Ronald Eugene Neff, 82, passed away on November 27, 2021, at the Sheridan
 County Long Term Care Health Complex. He was born November 11, 1939, to 
F. H. Neff and wife Margaret.
 Ron attended Selden Grade and High Schools, where he played 
basketball with the team and almost went to state. Ron attended one year
 of college at K-State and three years in Creighton in Omaha, where he 
graduated with a Business Degree. Ron joined the Kansas National Guard 
and served for six years. 
 On September 11, 1961, Ron married Lois Tesmer of Sharon Springs, KS
 and were happily married for 60 years. To this union five children were
 born: Monica, Doug, David, Darin, and DaLaena. Ron was a farmer, a 
Pioneer Salesman for 53 years and got his Broker’s License and sold land
 for 52 years. He enjoyed visiting with anyone and everyone, he was 
definitely a people person. Ron was a member of the Lion’s Club for 45 
years and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, where he served on the
 Parish Council when he was younger. He never missed a Mass on Sunday if
 he could help it, even on family fishing trips he would take them to 
the nearest town for Mass. 
 Ron loved his family and grandchildren, taking the older ones 
fishing and showed them how to bait their hooks, etc. He was a wonderful
 Grandpa. 
 Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Lois Meitl and 
granddaughter, Leah. He is survived by his wife, Lois of Selden, KS; 
brother, Don Neff and wife, Gerry; two daughters, Monica of Shawnee, KS 
and DaLaena Karlin of Gardner, KS; three sons, Doug of Shelbyville, TN,

Kenny (Kenneth) Wade Raudis was born on November 2, 1972, in Meriden, Connecticut to Charles Mahoney and Anna Marie Oquendo.&nbsp; Kenny and his family moved to Florida when he was a child.&nbsp; Florida, the Everglades and the South are what Kenny always called home.

He moved to Kansas in 2005, where he met Lisa Hammerschmidt and the two were married on May 9, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, Kansas.

Two children were born to Kenny and Lisa.&nbsp; Colt Daniel was born on February 22, 2012, and Emma Marie was born on October 22, 2015.&nbsp; Kenny was a great father and enjoyed his kids so much.&nbsp; Kenny loved to make their breakfast of choice on the weekends, take them fishing, having man day with Colt, and lovey dovey time with Emma.

Kenny enjoyed playing darts, smoking&nbsp;and grilling, and having his friends over to relax in his man cave.&nbsp; He was a great cook which led him into making his own BBQ rub.&nbsp; Not only did he learn from&nbsp;but helped,&nbsp;so many fellow BBQ friends on his own BBQ Facebook group from all over the world.

Kenny died November 23, 2021, at his home after a sudden illness.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Mahoney, stepfather, Raphael Oquendo and father-in-law, Elvis Hammerschmidt.&nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Lisa Raudis, children, Colt Raudis and Emma Raudis, all of the home.&nbsp; Mother, Anna Marie Oquendo of Florida, brother, Marc Mahoney and Maria Carbone of Florida, nephews, Joshua Raudis, Kyle Raudis, Caedin Mahoney and Jax Mahoney all of Florida, niece, Deanna Raudis of Florida, great nephew, Bentley and great niece, Everley, both of Florida, sister, Dinetta&nbsp;Van Heemst of Florida, mother-in-law, Linda Hammershmidt of Hays, and sister in law, Gwen Hammerschmidt, of Wichita.&nbsp; Along with all his friends he had&nbsp;gotten to know over the years who he considered his family.

Kenny Raudis

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Hubert Duane “Pete” Pickett. 
Pete was born two miles west of McDonald, Kansas on November 18, 1940, 
to Albert Leonard Pickett and Dorothy Faye (Archer) Pickett. He passed 
away peacefully at his home on November 26, 2021, at the age of 81. 
Pete attended McDonald Elementary School and High School, where he 
graduated in 1958. He participated in basketball, football, and track, 
earning All State Honorable Mention in basketball his senior year, 
scoring 42 points in a single game. 
His life was filled with the love of his extended family and a terrific 
appreciation of the outdoors. He loved the open plains of Northwest 
Kansas and never missed an opportunity to hunt a coon or coyote. 
Pete loved reminiscing about his days and trophies he won for TT Scrambles and short track races on his 500 Triumph. 
Pete retired in 2003 after 40 years of dedicated service to Firestone as
 a manager/owner of stores in North Platte, Lincoln and Falls City, NE. 
His work ethic was beyond question. 
Retirement offered many opportunities for countless motorcycle touring 
trips coast to coast. Pete always loved nature and riding the trails on 
horseback, so Kansas was calling. There was nothing better for Pete than
 riding with Joan on a good horse, among good friends on an 
adventuresome trail. Pete was always ready for the annual all horse 
Christmas Parade or Wagon Train ride. He loved volunteering to work at 
the Tailgate Ranch moving cattle and branding. 
Never will you meet a man who more faithfully lived his values. Pete was
 a teacher of all things as he taught by example. He never let another 
man down and fulfilled every obligation he ever undertook. His word was 
his bond and everyone knew it. He was self-made and self-reliant. 
Pete was loved for an infinite number of reasons. He was a magnificent 
man, a loyal loving husband, a devoted father, a kind spirit and a true 
friend. Pete provided such remarkable examples to remember him by and 
hold close to our hearts. 
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter Sherri McIntosh. 
He is survived by the love of his life, Joan; his son Troy and wife 
Emily; grandchildren, Colin, Abby, Emma, and Ella; his son Ken and 
grandchildren Hunter and Madison; brother Eldon and wife Jeri; 
stepdaughter Lyn and husband Mike Martin; step granddaughter Rachel and 
husband Jason Venn and great grandsons, Caden and Grayson. He also 
leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, each missing him 
for his great sense of humor and the special man he was.

Hubert Duane 'Pete' Pickett

Anna Mae "Ann" Friendly, 90, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on 
November 26, 2021. Anna Mae&nbsp;was born on June 1, 1931, in Hoxie, Kansas, 
to parents Elmer and Pearl Weeks.

Anna Mae was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) Friendly on June 
11, 1961; they were married for 60 years. Ann worked at a variety of 
jobs, including taking care of her nieces and nephew until she married.&nbsp;
 She then became a devoted homemaker and mother. She enjoyed sewing, 
making clothes for her children and working tirelessly to ensure her 
daughter had the best dressed dolls in town by making doll clothes and 
Barbie clothes. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, 
often hosting the holidays. In addition, she was actively involved in 
many of her children’s organizations.&nbsp; She served as a Den Mother for 
her son’s Boy Scout troop, served as a scout leader for her daughter’s 
Girl Scout troop, helped with Vacation Bible School every summer, and 
served as deaconess of the First Presbyterian Church in WaKeeney.&nbsp; When 
her children became older, she began babysitting, often for free, for 
the families who would rent the house next door. As the neighborhood 
children moved away, she became adventurous, and her husband Dick and 
she traveled by motorcycle to all 48 lower states.&nbsp; Ann wasn’t keen on 
riding on the back of a motorcycle at first, but she ended up enjoying 
the road trips and the many friends they made along the way. The 
motorcycle trips became fewer and fewer when her grandchildren were 
born, and she turned her attention to making sure they were properly 
spoiled.&nbsp; While she loved her role as wife and mother, her favorite role
 was undoubtedly being Grandma Ann. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ann is survived by her husband Richard; her son Rory of Alexandria, 
Virginia; her daughter Nora Schoenthaler of Lenexa, Kansas; her 
grandchildren Deven Schoenthaler of Tucson, Arizona, and Emarie 
Schoenthaler of Kansas City, Missouri; and brother Donald Weeks

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Elmer Weeks Jr., and two sisters, Betty Nelson and Helen Holmes. &nbsp;

&nbsp;A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, at the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

 </figure>Anna Mae "Ann" Friendly, 90, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on 
November 26, 2021. Anna Mae&nbsp;was born on June 1, 1931, in Hoxie, Kansas, 
to parents Elmer and Pearl Weeks.Anna Mae was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) Friendly on June 
11, 1961; they were married for 60 years. Ann worked at a variety of 
jobs, including taking care of her nieces and nephew until she married.&nbsp;
 She then became a devoted homemaker and mother. She enjoyed sewing, 
making clothes for her children and working tirelessly to ensure her 
daughter had the best dressed dolls in town by making doll clothes and 
Barbie clothes. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, 
often hosting the holidays. In addition, she was actively involved in 
many of her children’s organizations.&nbsp; She served as a Den Mother for 
her son’s Boy Scout troop, served as a scout leader for her daughter’s 
Girl Scout troop, helped with Vacation Bible School every summer, and 
served as deaconess of the First Presbyterian Church in WaKeeney.&nbsp; When 
her children became older, she began babysitting, often for free, for 
the families who would rent the house next door. As the neighborhood 
children moved away, she became adventurous, and her husband Dick and 
she traveled by motorcycle to all 48 lower states.&nbsp; Ann wasn’t keen on 
riding on the back of a motorcycle at first, but she ended up enjoying 
the road trips and the many friends they made along the way. The 
motorcycle trips became fewer and fewer when her grandchildren were 
born, and she turned her attention to making sure they were properly 
spoiled.&nbsp; While she loved her role as wife and mother, her favorite role
 was undoubtedly being Grandma Ann. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Ann is survived by her husband Richard; her son Rory of Alexandria, 
Virginia; her daughter Nora Schoenthaler of Lenexa, Kansas; her 
grandchildren Deven Schoenthaler of Tucson, Arizona, and Emarie 
Schoenthaler of Kansas City, Missouri; and brother Donald WeeksAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Elmer Weeks Jr., and two sisters, Betty Nelson and Helen Holmes. &nbsp;&nbsp;A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, at the WaKeeney City Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Trego

Karla Kay (Welty) Worcester, 84, died at Azria Health Center in Olathe, 
Kansas, November 25, 2021.  She was born January 25, 1937, in Hill City,
 Kansas to Ivan Welty and Viola (Gates) Welty. 

Karla graduated from 
Hill City High School in 1954. Following high school graduation, she 
attended Kansas State University from 1954 to 1956. While there she 
studied Pre-Nursing and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. 
September 2, 1956, Karla married Norman Owings at the First Presbyterian
 Church in Hill City. After the arrival of sons Dale in 1957 and David 
in 1959, Karla enjoyed being a full-time mother for several years, 
although she often picked up classes at nearby universities. As Norman 
followed his career, they lived in St. Louis, Missouri; WaKeeney, 
Kansas; Borger, Texas; and Raleigh, North Carolina, before deciding to 
move to Hill City in 1966 after the death of Karla’s mother, Viola Welty
 due to cancer. Norman and Karla enjoyed square dancing, camping, and 
traveling. Hobbies she enjoyed were knitting, sewing, playing the 
piano, and playing bridge. She often lent a helping hand with her 
sister’s children and was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews.
 In 1972 Karla completed her degree in Elementary Education at Fort 
Hays State University. Eventually the family moved to Plainville where 
Karla taught 4th and 5th grades from 1972-1976. She completed her 
master’s degree in Elementary Education/Library Media in 1985. Karla 
and Norman divorced in 1986. Karla then worked as an elementary 
librarian, first in Dodge City and then in Hill City, before she 
reconnected with a classmate, Allen Worcester. They were married in 2005
 and lived on his farm until 2021. Karla kept busy working at Helping 
Hands for several years and was an active member of the Christian Church
 and Eastern Star. Karla loved spending time with her grandchildren, 
developing a special relationship with each one and traveling many miles
 to see them if necessary.
 Karla was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Robbie, 
her stepson Lewis Worcester, a nephew Joel Cameron and her 
brother-in-law Gary Cameron. 
 Survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband Allen 
Worcester of Hill City; two sons: Dale Owings (Kathryn) of Lawrence and 
David Owings of Coffeyville; four stepchildren: Rhonda Atkinson (Galen) 
of Burleson, Texas, Mark Worcester (Cindi) of Elk City, Paul Worcester 
(Sharon) of Omaha, Nebraska and Amy Karst (Craig) of Hoisington; six 
grandchildren,10 great grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and 11 
step-great grandchildren; a sister Sandra Cameron of Hill City and a 
brother Lee (Sally) Welty of Little River, California.

Karla Kay Worcester

Randall Brian Selfridge of Burdett, Kansas, passed away at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore, Kansas, on Friday, November 19, 2021.

Randy was born June 26, 1951, at Larned, Kansas, to Elmer and Ina Mae Eakin Selfridge. He was one of the babies born in the first year of the new hospital, St Joseph Memorial Hospital. He was a farmer, and a lifetime resident of Hodgeman County, living north and west of Hanston until 1964, when the family bought the farm west of Burdett. Randy started first grade at 6 years old at Hanston Grade School, and graduated from Hanston High School in 1970. He stayed home for a year after graduation, and made enough money to buy his car, then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan. Upon returning home, he became a vital part of Five Star Farm, working alongside his parents and brothers. Randy was a fine welder, and built and repaired things of steel. When it was planting time, Randy took pride in planting straight rows. He custom harvested locally, and some in Eastern Colorado. He chopped and fed a lot of silage over the years and built and repaired a lot of fences. He drove school bus routes and activity trips for Pawnee Heights School District. The last years of working, he enjoyed driving tractor over the same acres he had farmed year after years before.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ina Mae Selfridge, and a first cousin of his generation, Karen Selfridge Maxwell.  

Survivors include his daughter Molly (Josh) Gauger and granddaughter, Melody Mae Gauger of Hays, Kansas.

Brothers, Brad (Lynne) Selfridge (Ohio), Wade Selfridge of Hanston, and Tyler (Margaret) Selfridge of Burdett. Neices and Nephews, Levi Selfridge and Sarah Selfridge Christopherson, Lucas Selfridge, Rebecca Selfridge, Jason Selfridge, and Nathan Selfridge, Eva Selfridge and Leslie Selfridge Montecello. First cousins of his generation and trusted lifetime friends, Lois Selfridge Price, Allen Selfridge, and Janet Selfridge, David Chaffee, Katie Chafee, and Rodney Chaffee.

Cremation has taken place. He will be buried at Browns Grove Cemetery, near his parents.

A celebration of life for Randy will be held at a later date.

Dolores A. Burgardt, 76, died on November 27, 2021, at the University
 Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born on February 
27, 1945, at Hays, Kansas, to Aloysius&nbsp; &amp; Cleopha Elizabeth (Herrman)
 Leiker. She married Elmer Burgardt on December 31, 1966 at Great Bend. 
He survives.

Mrs. Burgardt was a Great Bend, Kansas, resident. She was a part owner
 of the Tumble In Laundromat and most recently worked various jobs at 
nursing homes and restaurants. Dolores was a member of Prince of Peace 
Parish at St. Rose of Lima and the Altar Society, a senior companion, 
and enjoyed crocheting and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer Burgardt, of the home; two sons,
 Elmer Burgardt, Jr. of Great Bend, Kansas, Joe (Paula) Burgardt of 
Foley, Minnesota; two daughters, Rhonda (Chris) Hill of Granby, 
Colorado, Angela Lemonds of Hutchinson, Kansas; one brother, Donald 
(Toni) Leiker of Great Bend, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and one 
great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister,
 Darlene Dean.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, 
December 2, 2021, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m., with Vigil and

Dolores A. Burgardt

Longtime Agra, KS resident Betty Ella McCormack passed away on 
November 24, 2021, at the Herington Municipal Hospital in Herington, KS 
at the age of 90.

She was born November 29, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Otis “Jack” Reynolds and Juanita LaMae (Davis) Reynolds-Love.

Betty was married to husband Elbert at Plainville, KS on March 18, 
1947, for 45 years until his death in 1992. Her early childhood years 
during the great depression, and growing up as an only child, had a 
lasting impact on her life. Leaving school for the work force as a young
 teenager and married soon after, Betty was a hard worker and determined
 to provide better for her children. She made sure her children always 
knew they were loved, were never hungry, and that they paid close 
attention to their schooling. Betty took great joy in seeing her family 
grow and flourish, and absolutely loved seeing the extended family 
gather at her home for the holidays. She was well known for the lavish 
home-cooked meals she orchestrated during these times. Betty was so 
proud of all her family, never passing on an opportunity to tell those 
around her how blessed she felt.

Betty spent 33-years in food service at the Phillips County Hospital 
in Phillipsburg, Kansas, and was deeply committed to providing a 
consistently high quality of service to the patients and guests her 
department served. As proud as Betty was of her family, that same 
sentiment applied to those she felt privileged to work with at the 
hospital. The hospitality she espoused in her career, and required of 
her staff, carried over to Betty’s home as well. Friend, family, or 
other, no one left her home hungry or wanting for compassion. Betty was a
 beautiful spirit that will long be remembered by her family and friends
 for her kind smile, enduring love, and relentless support.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elbert Marion 
McCormack, son Myron T “Mac” McCormack, daughter-in-law Cheryl 
Synoground, and granddaughter Holly Synoground.

She is survived by daughters Rhonda Simpson (husband Gene) of 
Herington, Kansas, Bonita Smith of Agra, Kansas, and Jacquelyn “Jackie” 
Wilson (husband Jim) of Agra, Kansas, foster son Richard “Butch” 
Synoground of Smith Center, Kansas, and daughter-in-law Roberta 
Quanz-McCormack of Agra, Kansas, 18 grandchildren, 31 great 
grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021,&nbsp; at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Dave 
Hutson officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, 
KS.

Mrs. McCormack will lie in state from Noon until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday,
 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 
7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial

Betty Ella McCormack

  Great Bend KS and former Wallace County, KS resident Dolores P Medina, 87, passed away on November 23, 2021, at Azria Health Nursing Home in Great Bend, KS.

   Dolores was born on December 9, 1933, in Chacon, New Mexico, to Roberto and Abelina (Gonzalez) Torrez. She was one of eight children, three brothers and four sisters. The family moved to Olney Springs, Colorado where Dolores and her siblings attended school and had numerous stories about growing up in the Arkansas Valley.

   On September 22, 1951, she married Jess Medina and to this union five children were born, Rita, Jess, Sara, Norman and Celia. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and attending ball games and school activities.  

   Dolores worked at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Sharon Springs, KS for 17 years starting in 1981, earning her Medication Aide Certification in 1986 and continued working until 1998. She retired and moved to Great Bend, KS. She enjoyed watching her KU basketball and Denver Bronco football games with her little dog Magoo in her arms and let everyone know not to call her until the games were over!! 

   Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Celia Jane Medina, one son Norman Gary Medina, three sisters and two brothers.

   She is survived by her children Rita (Dennis) Smith of Weskan, KS, Jess (Carmen) Medina of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Sublette, KS and Sara (Gary) Pletcher of Great Bend, KS. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Cindy Medina of Salina, KS, one brother Cipriano (Mary) Torrez of Jacksonville, FL, one sister Gloria (Mark) Kreidler of Sunnyvale, CA, eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

   Services for Dolores will be held at a later date.

 </figure> Great Bend KS and former Wallace County, KS resident Dolores P Medina, 87, passed away on November 23, 2021, at Azria Health Nursing Home in Great Bend, KS. Dolores was born on December 9, 1933, in Chacon, New Mexico, to Roberto and Abelina (Gonzalez) Torrez. She was one of eight children, three brothers and four sisters. The family moved to Olney Springs, Colorado where Dolores and her siblings attended school and had numerous stories about growing up in the Arkansas Valley. On September 22, 1951, she married Jess Medina and to this union five children were born, Rita, Jess, Sara, Norman and Celia. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and attending ball games and school activities. Dolores worked at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Sharon Springs, KS for 17 years starting in 1981, earning her Medication Aide Certification in 1986 and continued working until 1998. She retired and moved to Great Bend, KS. She enjoyed watching her KU basketball and Denver Bronco football games with her little dog Magoo in her arms and let everyone know not to call her until the games were over!! Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Celia Jane Medina, one son Norman Gary Medina, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her children Rita (Dennis) Smith of Weskan, KS, Jess (Carmen) Medina of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Sublette, KS and Sara (Gary) Pletcher of Great Bend, KS. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Cindy Medina of Salina, KS, one brother Cipriano (Mary) Torrez of Jacksonville, FL, one sister Gloria (Mark) Kreidler of Sunnyvale, CA, eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Services for Dolores will be held at a later date. Goodland, KS resident Irma P. Flores, 62, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland, KS.

Irma was born on April 29, 1959, in Beeville, TX to Calisto and Elena (Puentes) Flores.&nbsp; She was one of 14 children.&nbsp; She attended school in Mathis, TX. &nbsp;

In 1979, Irma moved from Mathis, TX to Kanorado, KS, and then moved to Goodland in 2006.&nbsp; She was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland and worked as a housekeeper at the hospital in Goodland.

Preceding her in death were her parents, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.

Surviving family includes her husband George Sandoval of Goodland, her children Jose (Rebecca) Flores, Javier Flores, Rosa Sandoval and Juan Sandoval, all of Goodland, KS.&nbsp; She is also survived by 3 sisters; Yolanda (Jr) Hernandez and Sulema Salinas all of Dodge City, KS and Hortencia Rodriguez of Robstown, TX, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 10:30 AM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.&nbsp; Cremation will follow the services.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.&nbsp; A rosary service will begin at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Martha Grace Smith-Kennedy was born March 18, 1940, in Dodge City, 
Kansas to Floye and Joe Leonard. She departed this life on October 7, 
2021, after a brief illness, in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Martha is survived by siblings Steve Rohrbaugh (Raylene), Linda 
Rohrbaugh Diede (Gary), Bill DeGarmo (Randi), Barbara DeGarmo Lohmeier 
(Patrick), and Laurita DeGarmo Moyer, (Jerry); grandchildren Chris 
Howard, Tucker Smith, and Korbin Smith; great-grandchildren Jennifer, 
Nevaeh, Graciee, Aaliyah, and Bentley Howard; numerous cousins, nieces, 
and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her mother and father, husbands Aldon
 (Ike) Smith and Harry Kennedy, children Todd Smith and Linda Smith 
Miller.

Martha loved her family dearly, as they did her. She never met a 
stranger; everyone was a friend. Martha was a loving, praying Christian 
and was truly blessed. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held at 10:30 
A.M. on Saturday, December 04, 2021, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler 
Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Family will greet guests the day of the 
service at the mortuary.&nbsp; Cremation has been selected by the family and 
there will be no graveside service.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, please make a 
donation to your local Humane Society in honor of Martha’s love of

Dwight "Bud" Perrey Sr., age 92, of Goodland, Kansas, passed away on
 November 24, 2021.&nbsp; Bud was born in Lebanon, Missouri, to parents 
Elmer F. Perrey and Lillian Mary Perrey.&nbsp; He was proceeded in death by 
his wife of 38 years, Patricia L. Perrey (nee Shaw), and his brother, 
John Perrey.

Bud was the manager of the theatre in Goodland for over twenty 
years.&nbsp; For many, he was simply known as “Uncle Bud.” He served in the 
U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged 
on Nov. 20, 1952.&nbsp; He had an inquisitive mind with many interests 
including those of pilot, beekeeper, and ham radio operator. &nbsp;For many 
years he served as an AARP volunteer preparing tax returns for 
individuals. He was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and 
served the church in many capacities.

Bud is survived by his son, Dwight Perrey, Jr., a sister, Marilyn 
Torrence,&nbsp;nieces and nephews Skip Perrey (wife, Sheila), Jennifer 
Kutscher, Jill LeBlanc (husband, Charlie), Louis Torrence (wife, Rose), 
Catherine Nedelka (husband, Steve), Perrey Torrence (wife, Dionne), and 
extended family David Knudson (wife, Roberta), Lisa Knudson, and Noah, 
Lucas and Grace Holz.

The family would like to express appreciation for the care and 
comfort provided to Bud by the staff of Grace Manor Care Center in 
Burlington, and to&nbsp; the Reverends Don Martin, Scott Mentzer, and Pat 
Schiefen of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on 
December 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. MST (2:00 p.m. CST).&nbsp;&nbsp; Interment to be 
at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney.&nbsp; The family would ask that
 you consider a donation to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Goodland,

Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. 
&nbsp;He was 71 years old. &nbsp;Louie was born February 4, 1950, to James and 
Norma Jean Yarger. &nbsp;He grew up on the family farm north of Goodland, 
attended Prairie Star one room school house, a country school through 
8th grade, then Goodland High School, graduating in 1968. &nbsp;Louie began 
his career as a truck driver at the age of 18. &nbsp;He logged many miles 
hauling a variety of cargo from one coast to the other and everywhere in
 between for several years. &nbsp;He took a break from trucking and opened 
Louie's Bar in downtown Goodland that ran for several years before 
returning to trucking.

Louie never knew a stranger. &nbsp;He enjoyed going to coffee and having 
drinks with friends. &nbsp;He loved music, going to the movies, and 
traveling.&nbsp; &nbsp;He will be missed by many. &nbsp;

He is survived by his mother, Norma Jean Yarger of Goodland; 
brothers, &nbsp;Michael (Cindie) Yarger of Goodland and Larry (Mary) Yarger 
of Excelsior, MN; daughter, Cindy George of Riverton, WY; son, Patrick 
Tiede of Manhattan, KS; grandchildren, niece, nephews, and a host of 
friends. &nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his father James Yarger; son, Thomas Tiede. &nbsp;

Thursday, November 25, 2021, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Larry was born December 4, 1938, in rural Rush County, Kansas, the 
son of Daniel and Rose (Schafer) Schuckman.&nbsp; He was a resident of La 
Crosse, Kansas, for 15 years, moving from Round Rock, Texas.&nbsp; He was a 
sales person in the auto industry before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Larry loved cars and anything to do with cars, especially classic cars.&nbsp; He was a member of the National Hot Rod Association.

Survivors include:&nbsp; two grandchildren, Jake Schuckman, and Amanda 
Schuckman; four great grandchildren, Zavrina, Kylie, Luke, and Alina; 
one brother, Randy Schuckman, Sedona, Arizona; and four sisters, Alverna
 Schaffer, La Crosse, Kansas, Mary Lou Schaffer, La Crosse, Kansas, 
Marjorie Schaffer, Wichita, Kansas, and Danelle Peters, La Crosse, 
Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry James 
Schuckman, Jr.; one brother, Willard Schuckman; and one sister, Ilene
