Joellen Boman

Joellen Boman, 84, passed away December 8, 2021, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born on July 17, 1937 at Great Bend, to Carroll & Daisy (Spurling) Kelly.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Joellen was a caretaker at the Dominican Chapel of the Plains for many years before transferring over to CKMC. Joellen was a member of Community Christian Church. Joellen had a great love of horses and all animals. One of her most favorite jobs was working on a ranch in Altus, Okla. Joellen was a wonderful cook and enjoyed many years managing the kitchen at a truck stop in Lincoln, Neb. She also cooked for several restaurants in Great Bend over the years.  

Joellen never met a stranger. She considered everyone her friend. She was known as Momma Jo, Aunt Jo, and Grandma Jo to many generations. Joellen will forever be remembered for her giving nature, kind heart, and the joy and love she provided. She spread sunshine everywhere she went.

Survivors include, a brother, Chester Brown; and several nieces and nephews including, Kelly Cozby, Karen Hoffman and Rayetta Crist, whom were her children at heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carroll Kelly and Donald Kelly; and a sister, Betty Navarro.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021, with Pastor Jon Hembree presiding. Memorials have been designated to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
