 Mary Ann Mermis, age 80, of Hays, 
Kansas died Monday, December 27, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born August 20, 1941 in Hays, Kansas to Jacob C. and 
Sophia (VonLintel) Stecklein.&nbsp; She married Vernon J. “Vernie” Mermis on 
May 14, 1960 at Munjor, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on May 1, 
2006.

She and her husband owned and 
operated Vernie’s Hamburger House in Hays since 1969.&nbsp; She was a member 
of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a homemaker.&nbsp; Mary Ann 
grew up on the farm North of Munjor, attended Munjor Grade School, and 
was a 1959 graduate of Girls Catholic High School in Hays.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
cooking, gardening, embroidering, reading and trips to the casinos. 
&nbsp;Mary Ann was an avid fan of the KC Royals and KU Jayhawk basketball.&nbsp; 
Her pride and joy was spending time with her grandkids and family.

Survivors include her daughters, 
Debbie Braun and husband, Jim; Sondra Klaus and husband, Neil; Bonnie 
Mermis; Jennifer Mermis and husband, Keith; all of Hays, KS; her 
brothers, George Stecklein and wife, Juleen, Hays, KS; Jude Stecklein 
and wife, Rachel, Sylvan Grove, KS; ten grandchildren, Renae Unrein 
(Lance); Jason Braun; Andrea Braun; Adam Klaus; Amber Albers (Kord); 
Tanner Mermis; Conner Mermis; Preston Mermis; Nick Mermis; Haley Mermis;
 three great grandchildren, Macy Unrein; Miley Unrein and Kolson 
Albers.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 
10:00 A.M. Friday, December 31, 2021, at Immaculate Heart of Mary 
Catholic Church, 18th &amp; Vine Hays, Kansas with Father Elias Chinzara
 officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.

Patty Louise Herrman, age 63, of Hays, 
Kansas passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, at Hays Medical Center. 
She was born May 2, 1958, in Hill City, Kansas to Virgil and Mary 
(Metheny) Deringer. She attended school in Goodland, Kansas and earned a
 bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University. On July 9, 1988, she
 married Leland Herrman in LaCrosse, Kansas.

Patty was an auditor for the Department
 of Education for 33 years. Patty was very involved with her family and 
particularly her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Leland 
of Hays; a daughter, Terra Niehoff and husband Brandon of Shawnee, 
Kansas; three sisters, Jo Ann Deringer of Denver, Colorado, Doris Luna 
of New Braunfels, Texas and Betty Flanagan of Peoria, Arizona as well as
 two grandchildren, Emma Osborne and Jace Niehoff.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM 
January 8, 2022, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in LaCrosse, Kansas. 
Inurnment will follow in the LaCrosse City Cemetery.

Virginia Geist, age 93, of Hays, Kansas, died Friday, December 24, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.&nbsp;

She was born December 16, 1928, in Ogallah, Kansas, to Raymond and Pauline (Leiker) Klaus.&nbsp; She married Joseph G. “Joe” Geist on June 8, 1950, at Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on March 21, 2008.

She was a homemaker, worked with Maxine Kisner serving wedding cakes for a number of years, and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She grew up and attended school in Munjor, Kansas and lived her adult life in Hays.&nbsp; The last three years she has lived at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays. &nbsp;

Survivors include her sons, Joseph G. Geist Jr., Hays, KS; Henry “Hank” Geist and wife, Sue, Hays, KS; her daughter, Nancy Ann Seib and husband, Mike, Hays, KS; her brother, Gerald “Gerry” Klaus and wife, Peggy, Hays, KS; her sister, Gloria Leiker and wife, Don, Hays, KS; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. &nbsp;

Virginia Rosalee Zumalt, 97, passed away December 24, 2021, at 
Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born on August 18, 1924, in 
Florence, Kan., to Otto Ray and Tarcy (May) VanBibber. She married Elmer
 Zumalt on July 15, 1941 in St. John, Kan.

Virginia was a homemaker and worked with her husband in their 
business, Hiland Dairy. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene 
in Great Bend for 83 years.

Survivors include, her daughter, Diane (Ken) Warrick of Branson, Mo.;
 six grandchildren, Stephanie (Tim) Fraas of Wichita, Kan., Lexie 
(Brian) Barling, Lenexa, Kan., Melissa (Bill) Lloyd, San Antonio, Tex., 
Megan (Dan) Reed, Centerville, OH, Chris Swagerty and Sara Perreault, 
Great Bend, Kan., and Maranda (John) Miner of Niceville, Fla.; and 
sixteen great grandchildren, Katie (Mike) DiPero, Jared (Holli) Rogers, 
Logan Rogers, Holland (Chris) Hayes, Greta (Matthew) Peterson, Olivia 
(Gary) Worden, Benjamin Barling, Zachary Dunavan, Joshua and Maddy

Richard A. “Dick” Moore Jr., 78, died Friday, December 24, 2021, at his
 home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born May 23, 1943, in Hays, 
Kansas, the son of Richard A. Moore, Sr. and Regina “Peggy” (Rupp) 
Moore. 
 Dick grew up in Hays, Kansas where he attended school and graduated
 from Hays High School in 1961. On August 21, 1963, he married 
Geraldine “Jerri” McCarthy in Hays, Kansas. They later moved to Garden 
City in 1982, moving from Kewanee, Illinois. Dick worked for 35 years 
as owner and operator of 5-S Distributors (Tom’s Candy) until his 
retirement. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden 
City, Knights of Columbus, NRA, and Sand &amp; Sage Rifle &amp; Pistol 
Club. Dick enjoyed fishing, guns, collecting baseball cards, and 
refurbishing cars. 
 Survivors include his wife Jerri Moore of the home; 5 daughters Sue
 (Scott) Larsen of Garden City, Kansas, Shelly (John) Valley of Garden 
City, Kansas, Sherry Burling of Lafayette, Louisiana, Shannon (Clint 
Anderson) Moore of Liberal, Kansas, &amp; Stacie (Paul Franceus) Moore 
of San Francisco, California; a brother Elden Moore of Scottsdale,

Richard A. 'Dick' Moore Jr.

Dean Leon Sprigg was born September 4, 1933, in Almena, KS to Esther 
(Joos) and Leon Sprigg. He passed away on December 26, 2021, at his home
 in Norton, KS, at the age of 88 years.
 Dean attended a country school around Almena, KS and one year of 
high school. Then he always said he just, “brought his books home and 
quit”. 
 In 1955, he was drafted into the Army and served his country proudly
 until 1957. He was stationed around Frankfurt, Germany, and worked as a
 tank mechanic. Upon returning from the service in the Spring of 1957, 
he married Evelyn Meier on September 7, 1958. They were married for 63 
years and to this union came four children: Kathy, David, Dwight, and 
Tamara. Dean and Evelyn knew each other from when they were 
elementary/Jr. High age. They would play cards together in one room, 
while their parents played cards in another room.
 Dean loved farming (it was his passion), ranching, and “green” John 
Deere equipment. He enjoyed being the Norton County Fair Board President
 for years. He also enjoyed vacationing in Colorado and the Black Hills.
 Dean loved his grandkids but was known for saying “here-here” when they
 got too rowdy. He was a very quiet man with witty sayings like “don’t 
take any wooden nickels”.
 Dean was preceded in death by his son, Dwight; parents, Leon and 
Esther; brother, Norman and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived 
by his wife, Evelyn of the home; children: Kathy (Jay) Holste of Norton,
 David (Charla) Sprigg of Norton, and Tamara (Steve) Ziegelmeier of 
Colby; sister, Faith Hays of Norton; daughter-in-law, Michelle Sprigg of
 Norton; grandchildren: Kelsey (Casey) Olson, Courtney (James) Siemens, 
Keesha (Heinrich) Deetlefs, Timothy (Katelyn) Sprigg, Michael (Kara Jo) 
Sprigg, Jessica (Henry) Danso, Dustyna (Ernesto) Roman, Dylan (Jordan)

 </figure>Dean Leon Sprigg was born September 4, 1933, in Almena, KS to Esther 
(Joos) and Leon Sprigg. He passed away on December 26, 2021, at his home
 in Norton, KS, at the age of 88 years.
 Dean attended a country school around Almena, KS and one year of 
high school. Then he always said he just, “brought his books home and 
quit”. 
 In 1955, he was drafted into the Army and served his country proudly
 until 1957. He was stationed around Frankfurt, Germany, and worked as a
 tank mechanic. Upon returning from the service in the Spring of 1957, 
he married Evelyn Meier on September 7, 1958. They were married for 63 
years and to this union came four children: Kathy, David, Dwight, and 
Tamara. Dean and Evelyn knew each other from when they were 
elementary/Jr. High age. They would play cards together in one room, 
while their parents played cards in another room.
 Dean loved farming (it was his passion), ranching, and “green” John 
Deere equipment. He enjoyed being the Norton County Fair Board President
 for years. He also enjoyed vacationing in Colorado and the Black Hills.
 Dean loved his grandkids but was known for saying “here-here” when they
 got too rowdy. He was a very quiet man with witty sayings like “don’t 
take any wooden nickels”.
 Dean was preceded in death by his son, Dwight; parents, Leon and 
Esther; brother, Norman and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived 
by his wife, Evelyn of the home; children: Kathy (Jay) Holste of Norton,
 David (Charla) Sprigg of Norton, and Tamara (Steve) Ziegelmeier of 
Colby; sister, Faith Hays of Norton; daughter-in-law, Michelle Sprigg of
 Norton; grandchildren: Kelsey (Casey) Olson, Courtney (James) Siemens, 
Keesha (Heinrich) Deetlefs, Timothy (Katelyn) Sprigg, Michael (Kara Jo) 
Sprigg, Jessica (Henry) Danso, Dustyna (Ernesto) Roman, Dylan (Jordan) 
Sprigg, Kellan (Taylor) Ziegelmeier, Brook Ziegelmeier, Brennan 
Ziegelmeier, Kinley Ziegelmeier, and Adrian Ziegelmeier and 16 great

Dean Leon Sprigg

Keith M. Thompson, 76, Rush County, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

Keith was born June 25, 1945, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of George
 E. and Frieda M. (Hackstadt) Thompson.&nbsp; He was a resident of Rush 
County, Kansas, for over 25 years, moving there from Great Bend, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was a welder for KBK Industries, Rush Center, Kansas, before
 his retirement.

Keith was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He enjoyed assembling model cars, not always from a kit.&nbsp; Keith would
 hand craft his own cars, using ink pen springs as “shocks”, sewing 
thread as spark plug wires, and other common every day items.&nbsp; Keith was
 very artistic.&nbsp; He loved to paint, draw, and carve wood.&nbsp; He also 
enjoyed racing radio controlled boats and planes.&nbsp;

Survivors include several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon Thompson; and one sister, Rowena Keener.

The family has chosen cremation.&nbsp; There will be no services at this time.

Keith M. Thompson

Loren William Wright, born June 1, 1936, to Merle and Laura 
(Robinson) Wright passed peacefully on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at 
Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Loren graduated from Alexander High School, Alexander, Kansas, in 
1954 and married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Seltmann, on 
September 4,1955. They had three children, Robin, Wanda and Bradley.

Loren worked from an early age going on custom cutting crews starting
 when he was 14. He worked at the Acme Brick Plant in Hoisington, 
Kansas, after high school until he returned to work as a hired hand for 
Clyde Bryant and farmed his mother's ground on the weekends. He was 
given the chance to farm full time by EJ Spomer and eventually farmed 
all the ground for the Spomers. Phyllis and Loren moved to the Spomer 
home place in 1960 and lived there until moving to Locust Grove Village,
 La Crosse, Kansas, in December 2018.

Loren was known for his hard work. Loren fed cattle for Clyde seven 
days a week by scooping ensilage into and out of a truck. He built his 
own corrals and designed his load out pens. Loren learned to fly in 1965
 and purchased his first plane in 1968. He flew to check cattle and 
observe his fields. He earned his instrument rating in 1999 at the age 
of 63.

Loren was adventurous and had several hobbies he tried to fit into 
his busy schedule of farming. He enjoyed racing go-carts when young and 
cars when older and learned to snow ski and water ski. He loved 
traveling to Mexico and Panama with his brother Duane. He joined a 
flying club and once flew his own plane to Alaska.

Loren is survived by his wife, Phyllis Wright, La Crosse, Kansas; 
daughter, Wanda and husband, John Gard, Chanute, Kansas; son, Bradley 
Wright, Great Bend, Kansas; son-in-law, Todd Misegadis, Rush Center, 
Kansas, grandchildren, Jason Misegadis, and wife, Danielle, Wichita, 
Kansas, Jarren Gard, and wife, Meredith, Overland Park, Kansas, and 
Taylor and husband, Devon Crabtree, Chanute, Kansas; and great 
grandchildren, Chellsea Misegadis, Hailey Misegadis, Emelia Misegadis, 
Lennox Gard and Watson Crabtree.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dean Wright and Duane Wright, and daughter, Robin Misegadis.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

Graveside service will be Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 2:30 P.M. 
at the Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Kansas, with Reverend Kathy 
Bannister officiating. Interment will be in the Alexander Cemetery, 
Alexander, Kansas.

Mary Kayleene “Kay” Jones, 84, passed away on December 25, 2021, in 
Oberlin, KS. She was born on January 13, 1937, in rural Rooks County, KS
 to Charles and Mary (Frazier) Pierce.
 Kay grew up in Hill City and graduated from Hill City High School in
 1955. After high school she went to Fort Hays State University. She 
then married Darrell Allen Jones on July 19, 1958 in Hill City and to 
that union they had three children: Barton Allen, Charles Curtis, and 
Mary Colette. Kay was a secretary for Farmers &amp; Merchants Bank and 
the Kansas Employment Office, she was also the Oberlin Library Director 
but her favorite title was homemaker/mother. In her spare time she 
loved to knit and crochet, listen to music, play the piano and organ for
 her church, and was an avid reader.
 Kay is survived by her husband, Darrell; sons: Barton Jones and 
Charles Jones; daughter; Mary Wahlmeier; brother: Larry (Sherry) Pierce;
 sister: Coleene Brassfield; grandchildren: Andy, Alex, Aaron, Tessa, 
Keegan and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her 
parents.

Mary Kayleene 'Kay' Jones

Beth Anne Merklein, 58, of Oregon, Missouri, passed away on December 
21, 2021, at Mosaic Life Care Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri, with 
family and close friends by her side. She was born on April 18, 1963, to
 Leland Duane and Phyllis (Stutterheim) Merklein at Phillipsburg, 
Kansas.

Beth spent her childhood on the farm in rural Phillips County. 
She was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 
Stuttgart, KS. &nbsp;After graduating from Phillipsburg High 
School in 1981 she went on to study at Cloud County Community College, 
Concordia, KS, graduating in 1983 with an Associate of Science Degree in
 Travel and Tourism. After graduation, she began her career working for a
 large travel agency in Kansas City, MO; which eventually led her across
 the country working in that capacity for National Cattleman’s 
Association in Denver, Colorado and then advancing to providing travel 
services for the Mars Family and their companies. Being in the travel 
industry allowed Beth to explore her desire to travel and through her 
many travels she had adventurous tales to share with many when she 
returned. 

Through her marriage to David Baker she had two boys; Wyatt and Sam. &nbsp;Over the last 20 years she has been busy working and raising her boys. &nbsp;In
 October of 2020 Beth took the position as an Office Assistant working 
for the University of Missouri Extension Office for Holt County. This 
job allowed her flexibility to care for her boys and be close to home. &nbsp;She loved her family and her friends including Mandy and John Elifrits and family of Oregon, MO. 

Beth was preceded in death by the recent passing of her father Leland Duane Merklein. &nbsp;Survivors
 include her sons Wyatt and Sam Baker of the home, mother Phyllis 
Merklein of Prairie View, KS, siblings Susan Warner and husband Charlie 
of Cimarron, KS, Matt Merklein and wife Kelly of Dallas, TX, Denise 
Kaufmann and husband Robb of Southlake, TX, Janna Newman and husband 
Ryan of Gold Canyon, AZ. Along with many nieces and nephews and two 
great nephews and a host of friends. &nbsp;She will be greatly missed.

Beth Anne Merklein

Charles “Freeman” Sander passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at the
 Hays Medical Center at the age of 83. He was born to Charles William 
and Grace (Slightam) Sander on June 20, 1938 in Stockton, Kansas.
 Freeman was a lifelong resident of Rooks County. He was not only a 
generational “Charles” but a generational farmer. He spent his life 
doing what he loved most, farming with his dad, his brothers and his 
son. Freeman graduated from Stockton High School in 1956. While in high
 school, Freeman was awarded the Degree of American Farmer at the 
National FFA Convention. During his lifetime, Freeman was a proud 
member and supporter of several agricultural associations including FFA,
 4-H, and the Rooks County Free Fair. While serving as President of 
the fair board, Freeman was able to make the local fair one of the most 
recognized in the state. His dedicated service was recognized in 2014 
when Freeman was inducted into the Kansas Fairs and Festivals Hall of 
Fame. Another of Freeman’s most prized recognitions was winning the 
Ellis Steer Futurity Top Rate of Gain against the unbeatable Fort Hays 
State show herd.
 As a steward of the land and livestock, Freeman took seriously the 
charge of God, to take care of the earth and all that is in it. With 
strong faith and abiding hope, he worked hard, loved greatly, and now 
rests from his labors. The legacy of his love, laughter, and joy will 
live in our hearts and memories forever.
 He is survived by his wife, Twila Sander of the home in Stockton, 
KS; children, Charles F. (Marsha) Sander of Stockton, KS, and Brian 
(Trish) Sander of Plainville, KS; step-children, Aronda Strutt of 
Stockton, KS, Kris Strutt of Wichita, KS, and Clint (Angela) Strutt of 
Mons, Belgium; and nine grandchildren; and his brother Delbert (Rita) 
Sander of Stockton, Kansas.
 Freeman is preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace 
Sander; children, Kimberly Kay Sander and William James Sander; brother,
 George Sander; and granddaughter, Eden Strutt.
 The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 
10 AM at the Funeral Home in Stockton. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 
December 29, 2021 from 2 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.

 As a steward of the land and livestock, Freeman took seriously the 
charge of God, to take care of the earth and all that is in it. With 
strong faith and abiding hope, he worked hard, loved greatly, and now 
rests from his labors. The legacy of his love, laughter, and joy will 
live in our hearts and memories forever.
 He is survived by his wife, Twila Sander of the home in Stockton, 
KS; children, Charles F. (Marsha) Sander of Stockton, KS, and Brian 
(Trish) Sander of Plainville, KS; step-children, Aronda Strutt of 
Stockton, KS, Kris Strutt of Wichita, KS, and Clint (Angela) Strutt of 
Mons, Belgium; and nine grandchildren; and his brother Delbert (Rita) 
Sander of Stockton, Kansas.
 Freeman is preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace 
Sander; children, Kimberly Kay Sander and William James Sander; brother,
 George Sander; and granddaughter, Eden Strutt.
 The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 
10 AM at the Funeral Home in Stockton. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 
December 29, 2021 from 2 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.

Marvin F. Moser, age 91, passed away on December 25, 2021, at the 
Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on June 2, 
1930, in Pueblo, Colorado, the son of Paul Fredrick and Esther Bjork 
Moser.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of Tribune, Kansas, he owned and operated 
Moser Garage &amp; Auto Parts for over 63 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tribune, Kansas.

On November 12, 1950, he married Alberta Luekenga in Syracuse, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on June 9, 1993, in Tribune, Kansas.

Survivors include his One Son - Danny &amp; Vicki Moser of Tribune, 
Kansas, Two Daughters - Diana &amp; Deke Daniels of Tribune, Kansas,

Maynard E. Weber, 93, Hays, died Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Brookdale Hays.

He was born August 22, 1928, in El Dorado, the son of Charles William and Bertha Christina (Graves) Weber.&nbsp; He was a graduate of El Dorado High School and received an Associate Degree from Butler County Community College.&nbsp; On February 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Doerflinger in El Dorado, and they were married 61 years before she died on March 17, 2009.&nbsp; While living in Ellinwood, Maynard was the Superintendent of Production for Thunderbird Drilling.&nbsp; After moving to Hays in 1961, he worked for Davis, Schneider, and Dreiling Oil Companies.&nbsp; He was a member of Hays Christian Church, El Dorado Christian Church, the Elks, and the Petroleum Club of Great Bend.&nbsp; He enjoyed woodworking, vegetable gardening, and was a terrific cook.&nbsp; He had a lifelong passion for flying and loved spending time with his children.

Survivors include his son: Charles Weber and wife Jolanta of Lodz, Poland, daughter: Carolyn Fuller of Hays, seven grandchildren: Erin Weber, Jennifer Rinard, Sarah Woods, Russell Weber, Fallon Weber, Natalie Fuller-Rathbun, and Christie Fuller, and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Alice, two sons: Raymond E. Weber and Marc Weber, daughter: Diana Kay Weber, and one sister.

 Stella was born June 12, 1941, in Post, TX, the daughter of Jose and 
Rafaela Camargo.&nbsp; On November 22, 1968, she married Jesse V. Gill in San
 Antonio, TX.&nbsp; To this union they were blessed with two girls, Velma and
 Lori. She was preceded in death by her parents. 
Stella is survived by her husband Jesse V. Gill of Smith Center; two 
daughters, Velma J. Gill and Lori M. Gill; a sister Alice Sanchez and 
two granddaughters Kylie and Kayla Gill.

Stella Gill

Florence Rose Ritter Meitl Thompson, 93, of Hoxie, died Tuesday, 
December 21, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. She 
was born December 10, 1928, to Philomena (Minnie) and Bernard (Ben) 
Ritter at the family farm. She was the first born of identical twins and
 the sixth child out of eleven children. She, her twin, Sister Delores, 
and their siblings grew up on the family farm west of Dresden.
 Florence attended Leoville Grade and High School, graduating in May 
1946. After graduation, she worked for several families in the area. On 
May 9, 1950, she married Elmer Meitl at the Immaculate Conception Church
 in Leoville. They settled on a farm south and east of Dresden, along 
the Sheridan-Decatur County line. To this union, eight children were 
born, of which daughter Rose (December 5, 1952) only lived less than a 
day. Elmer passed away October 6, 1976. As a farm wife, she helped with 
the outside activities related to the farm.
 After Elmer’s passing, Florence took over as the regular driver of 
the Hoxie school bus route until she moved to Hoxie on March 29, 1982. 
She then worked at the First Insurance Agency, Inc. On August 30, 1985, 
Florence married Thomas (Tom) Thompson at St. Frances Church in Hoxie. 
They traveled with their camper as well as on bus trips. Tom passed away
 on May 29, 2000. 
 Florence enjoyed being involved in her church, both in Leoville and
 Hoxie. She liked working with wood and created many things for her 
home. She operated the Thrift Shop in Leoville and worked at the Swap 
Shop in Hoxie for several years. She loved her flowers and plants. She 
also machine quilted, finishing many quilts for friends and neighbors.
 Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Elmer Meitl 
and Thomas Thompson; brothers Cletus, Raymond, Seraphim, Francis, 
Sylvester, Victor and Dennis Ritter; sister Alfreda Colling; and 
daughter Rose.
 Florence is survived by her children: Regina (John) Johnson of 
Colby, Jerry (Velma) Meitl of Basehor, KS, Ken (Karen) Meitl of 
Washington, IL., Thomas Meitl of Midland, TX., Carol (Jimmy) Stewart of 
Hoxie; Conrad (Jan) Meitl of Greeley, Co., and Andrew (Cynthia) Meitl 
of Abilene, TX.; her fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great 
grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by two
 sisters, Sister Dolores Ritter and Bernadine Spresser. 
 She relied on her faith to get her through the many trials of her life.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 
10:30 A.M. at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie, Kansas. A
 lunch will follow the service in the St. Frances Cabrini Social Hall. 
Following the lunch, interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in 
Leoville, Kansas at approximately 1:15 PM. A visitation will be held

Florence Rose Thompson

Retha Loree Petrie, age 94, of Oakley, passed away on December 16, 2021,&nbsp; at the Citizen's Medical Center, Colby.&nbsp; She was born to Jesse and 
Adelia (Ottken) Roberts on October 30, 1927, in Oakley.&nbsp; Retha married 
Neal Petrie on November 12, 1949, in Kansas City, Kansas and two children
 were born, Janis and Gary. Retha was preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Adelia, and husband, Neal, who passed away on November 24, 2016. Retha
 is survived by her daughter, Janis Petrie, of Brandon, OR, son, Gary 
and his wife, Cindy, of Everett, PA, a granddaughter, Katelyn and her 
husband Derek Dibert, and great grandchildren, Warren (Hoss) and Reid 
(Little Joe) all of Bedford, PA. Retha was a kind and loving 
mother who was the heart of her small family.&nbsp; She was intent to leave a
 legacy of her life in the gifts to her family. &nbsp;These gifts were the 
love expressed in planting trees, creating quilts, crafting toys and 
furniture for children and grandchildren and so many other acts of 
kindness. &nbsp;Her character was forged as a child growing up during the 
great depression, but she was always reliably gently and kind to all 
people and animals. She was a self-effacing and humble person, 
but also a solid, reliable friend. &nbsp;She had an adventuresome spirit and 
loved life. She is now rewarded and reunited with past friends and 
family in a peaceful new place. A visitation is planned on 
Sunday, December 19, from 5 - to 8 pm&nbsp;at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home.&nbsp; 
The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 20, 2021, at

He was born January 27, 1954, in 
Hoisington, the son of Bob and Jean (Valerius) Finn.&nbsp; In 1972, he 
graduated from Hoisington High School.&nbsp; He owned and operated Finn Well 
Services.&nbsp; On December 31, 1976, he was united in marriage to Becky LaRue
 in Hoisington and they were married 45 years.&nbsp; He was a KU sports fan, 
liked reading, and with his wife enjoyed building furniture, birdhouses,
 and creating sculptures.&nbsp; More than anything, he loved his family.

Survivors include his wife Becky of 
Ulysses, son: Izzy Finn and wife Celia Earle of Hays, a grandson:

Robert Lyn “Rick” Allaman, 75, Hays, died Friday, December 10, 2021 at HaysMed.

He was born February 18, 1946 in 
Goodland, the son of John Francis “Jack” and Ellen Blanche (Rains) 
Allaman.&nbsp; Rick enjoyed working as a computer networking technician for 
SBS/AT&amp;T and a telephone technician at HaysMed.&nbsp; On February 20, 
1969, he was united in marriage to Gayle Lacey, and they were married 25
 years.&nbsp; They remained close friends after their divorce, and she 
survives.&nbsp; Rick loved his family and was an outdoorsman who enjoyed 
hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and time at the lake.

Survivors include his two sons: David 
Allaman of Hays and Scott Allaman and wife Dianna of Lenexa and two 
grandchildren: Jillian and Barrett Allaman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Bradley Allaman, and two brothers: John “Jacky” Allaman and Delphin Darrel Allaman.

A family graveside service and 
inurnment will be at a later date in Wallace Cemetery, Wallace County.&nbsp;

Robert Lyn 'Rick' Allaman

Our
 beloved Yvonne Jean Ames, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior 
Jesus Christ on December 24, 2021 at Wichita County Health Center Long 
Term Care Unit. Yvonne was born on November 17, 1936 to Harold and 
Nordene (Cody) Beckland in Olympia, Washington, where she attended her 
12 years of education. A friend of Norman Ames introduced Yvonne and 
Norman while Norman was stationed in the United States Army Engineers in
 Fort Lewis, Washington. On March 9, 1954, Yvonne and Norman were 
married, and in 1954 moved to Crowley, Colorado. Shortly after, in 1955,
 they moved to Leoti, Kansas to farm sugar beets and Norman still farms 
today. They celebrated their 67thyear of marriage in March of 2021.&nbsp;

Yvonne
 loved to cook and spent countless hours creating memorable meals for 
her family and the farm’s wheat and corn harvest crews. When she was not
 cooking, you could find her studying the Bible or quilting while 
enjoying Gospel music. Her talents of hand quilting, embroidery, 
crocheting, and tying of borders created many cherished quilts for 
family and friends. Yvonne loved gardening, decorating, and traveling 
and was an accomplished motorcyclist. She traveled to most of the 
Western states and Belize and loved to have a good time.&nbsp;

Yvonne
 loved her family and when her daughter-in-law, Leah Ames, started 
teaching and coaching, she cooked amazingly delicious full course meals 
every school night for Norman, her sons, Rodney and Steve, their wives, 
and her three grandchildren, Carson, Dillen, and Rheanne Ames. She was 
always quick to include anyone who happened to stop by. Every meal was a
 feast crafted with love. She continued this year after year until Leah 
and Rodney moved to Iowa. Her cooking was a blessing to all.&nbsp;

Yvonne
 is survived by her husband, Norman Ames of Leoti, Kansas, two children 
and their wives, Steve and Deb Ames of Leoti, Kansas and Rodney and Leah
 Ames of Falcon, Colorado, three grandchildren, Carson and Nichole Ames 
of Scott City, Dillen and Autumn Ames of Leoti, Kansas, and Rheanne Ames
 of Colorado Springs, Colorado and six great-grandchildren, Hadleigh and
 Beckam children of Carson and Nichole Ames, and Madison, Mya, Macy, and
 Maggie children of Dillen and Autumn Ames. Yvonne was preceded in death
 by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.&nbsp;

Funeral
 Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the
 United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with Pastor Tod Anthony 
presiding with pianist Michelle Jones, friend of the family. &nbsp;The 
funeral service will be Live-streamed at&nbsp;www.priceandsons.com.

Interment will be in the Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.

Visitation
 will be from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at

Yvonne Jean Ames

Rev. Dr. Gary L. Winget, 74, passed away December 24, 2021 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was born February 16, 1947 in Dodge City, KS, the son of James L. 
and Roberta O. Whipple Winget. He graduated from Hanston High School in 
1965, Sterling College in 1969 and furthered his education by earning 
his Doctorate of Divinity.

He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Larned.&nbsp; Gary 
was a faithful minister to several churches including; First Baptist 
Church and Hanston Mennonite Church, both of Hanston, KS, First Baptist 
Church, Dodge City, KS, First Baptist Church, Holdrege, NE, Wellsville 
Baptist Church, Wellsville, KS, Harmony Baptist Church, Johnstown, OH 
and First Baptist Church of Kennett Square, PA.&nbsp; He worked at Hanston 
Insurance Agency and served as a Hanston State Bank board member.

On May 31, 1969, he married Marilyn Sue Hogue in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; She 
passed away February 18, 2018.&nbsp; On October 11, 2020, he married Janice 
Halling in Salina, KS.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Shawn (Lynn) Winget, Long Beach, 
CA, Jason (Harmony) Winget, Ellinwood, KS; two daughters, Shannon (Mark)
 Slattery, Larned, KS, Melanie (Frank) Ishimura, Pittsburg, KS; fourteen
 grandchildren, Riann, Ashleigh, Micah (Grace), Jeremiah (Abigail), 
Jason Seth, Hannah, Ricky, Christopher, Christian, Summer, Macy, Jordan,
 Brendan, Camden and one great grandson on the way.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 
First Baptist Church, Hanston with Pastor Jason Winget and Pastor Mark 
Slattery presiding.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday,

Timothy Allan Adamson at the age of 67 passed away at home in Woodruff, KS on December 7, 2021.

Timothy was born January 29, 1954 in Ottumwa, IA the son of Lenard 
Roy Adamson and the former Dorothy Bella McConnell. He was a Vietnam 
Veteran of the US Army serving in Germany.

He owned and operated his own heating and air business before he retired.

He was preceded in death by his father Lenard, mother Dorothy, 
brother's Lenard Adamson, Gary Adamson, and James Adamson, sister 
Pauline Hamilton, and a grandson Payton Adamson.

Survivors include two daughters Rhonda and husband Jack Pryor of 
Pittsburg, KS and Tammy Adamson of Pittsburg, KS; a son Timothy and wife
 Rachel Adamson of Pryor, OK; sister Denise Adamson of Salina, KS; 8 
grandchildren; one great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held Saturday, 
January 29th at 11 am at the Emmanuel Foursquare Church in Salina, KS. 
Inurnment will be in Minneapolis City Cemetery.

Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, was in charge of local arrangements.
