Leland Steven Dix

Leland Steven Dix, 73, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Leland was born January 13, 1949, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, the son of Leonard F. and Lula Jane (Richardson) Dix.  He grew up in Stockton and graduated from Stockton High School in 1967.

Leland was united in marriage to Ruth Schilowsky on January 31, 1970, in Stockton.  This union was blessed with two children, Richard and Christina.  Ruth preceded him in death on June 2, 1995.  Later, Leland was united in marriage to Theresa (Hupfer) Seier Gardner on July 3, 2009.  He was a life-long Kansas resident and they made their home in Ellis in 2014.

Leland was a farmer in his early years.  He also was the owner and operator of Dix Trucking LLC from 2008 to 2016.  He drove a truck for Conway Trucking and later Hess Services in Hays, where he worked up until the time of his death.  He enjoyed watching westerns, playing board games with his grandchildren, and was an avid K-State and Dallas Cowboys football fan, and when younger enjoyed being involved with dirt track racing in Stockton.

Leland’s surviving family include his wife of twelve years, Theresa of the home; daughter, Christina Scheele (Travis) of Salina, Kansas; son, Richard Dix (Amy) of Stockton, Kansas; brother, Larry Dix (Nancy) of Agra, Kansas; sister, Candy Emery of Agra, Kansas; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, daughter Angela (Gardner) Wiley and brother Leonard James Dix.

Celebration of Leland’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 4, 2022 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. 

A memorial has been established as the Dix Grandchildren Education Fund.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
