Rita Joan Hrabe, Stockton, KS, passed away on January 30, 2022, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, KS, at the age of 86. She was born on July 28, 1935, to Ray and Vera (Arrington) Schindler in Rooks County, KS. Rita married Eugene Hrabe on August 19, 1952, in Stockton. They were blessed with 3 children: Debbie, Dennis, and Dean.

Rita was a homemaker and farmwife. She kept busy milking cows, raising and dressing chickens, gardening, sewing, cooking, and baking. She was known for her homemade bread and noodles. She loved helping at the Rooks County Free Fair, watching her grandkids show their animals, and taking pictures. Rita also assisted in the Open Class Building with the food judging for many years. She was always a good sport with her grandkids’ April Fools pranks each year. She was a member of the Christian Church where she and Eugene were married.

Rita is survived by her children Debbie Inglsbee (Leo) and Dean Hrabe (Marcia) of Stockton; brothers, Kermit Schindler (Barbara) of Stockton, Louis Schindler of Hill City, KS, Marvin Schindler of Goddard, KS, Henry Schindler of Great Bend, KS, and Kenneth Schindler of Topeka, KS; sisters, Avis Look (Lester) of Hays, KS, Zoe Hrabe (Normand) of Stockton, and Marilyn Miller (Dwight) of Stockton; 5 grandchildren, Weston Inglsbee (Courtney) of WaKeeney, KS, Wade Inglsbee (Jacque) of Stockton, Whitney Inglsbee of Stockton, Courtney Flower (Logan) of Stockton, and Cody Hrabe (Paige) of Plainville, KS; and 9 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tanner, Kinley, Lexi, Owen, Cole, Lauren, Rylan and Braxton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Vera; husband, Eugene; son, Dennis Hrabe; and brothers, Junior, Charles, and Richard Schindler.

It isn’t the farm that makes the farmer’s wife; it’s the love, hard work, dedication, faith, and character. Rita was all these things and more. She set for us an example and passed on to us the values of hard work, noble character, and devout love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. As a loving, caring mother and sister, her family, the farm, and the land was most important to her; and although she has now gone home to be with her Lord, the legacy of her love, laughter, and joy will live in our hearts and memories forever.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 2PM, at the funeral home in Stockton. Visitation will be Thursday, 4PM until 8PM with the family receiving friends 6-7:30PM at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to VFW Auxiliary or Rooks Co Fair Board and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669.
