Verlene Marie Ochs, age 87, of Grainfield, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care facility. She was born June 15, 1933, to George Harold and Odella (Marcotte) Deges. She attended the country school in Grainfield.

Verlene was united in marriage to Roy Ochs Jr. on August 31, 1954, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church. They were happily married until his passing in September of 2014. She lived a life full of service and giving as a member of the Saint Agnes Catholic Ladies, American Legion Auxiliary, and Gove County Medical Center Auxiliary. Verlene enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, canning, and embroidering, having made numerous sets of tea towels for family, friends, and all those in the community. Her door was always open to anyone who came by, and there was always an open spot at her table. Verlene will be dearly missed by family and friends, and will continue to live on in their hearts.

Verlene is survived by her son Ron (Lesa) Ochs of Quinter, KS; daughters Dee (Jack) Foster of Grainfield, Dar (Tim) Hickert of Hays, KS, and Connie (Gary) Rupp of Tribune, KS; grandchildren Amy (Cory) Leiker, Angie Foster, Justin (Shannon) Foster, Dustin (Robynn) Hickert, Kara (Nic) Top, Ryan (Tiff) Ochs, Shawna Ochs, Emily Rupp, and Audrey Rupp; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers Elmer Deges, Leon Deges, and Eugene Deges.

Verlene is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; and brothers Bernard Deges, Eldon Deges, and Richard Deges.

Due to concerns involving COVID-19, a private family service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, with interment to follow at the Grainfield Cemetery.

Jerry Vern Summers, 73 of rural Ogallah, Kansas passed away at his home July 19, 2020 after a battle with liver cancer and ultimately COVID-19. He was born March 8, 1947 in Winona, Kansas to Oliver and Ecil (Finch) Summers. Jerry married the love of his life, Connie L. Mong, on August 7, 1970, in Grainfield, Kansas. This year, they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage. Jerry’s work experience included logging. working at a grain elevator, being part of the construction crew that built the Interstate 70 bridges, operating heavy equipment for an earth moving company, 17 years as a section man with the Union Pacific Railroad, public works operator for the City of Grainfield, building and remodeling homes for a construction company and housekeeping at Gove County Medical Center. After retirement, Jerry re-entered the workforce to become a seasonal employee at Cedar Bluff State Park for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. During this time period, Jerry also joined the AmeriCorps Program where he helped with events at Cedar Bluff and various other parks in Kansas. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his girls and attending their school activities. In his spare time, Jerry liked to take a piece of wood and carve something out of it. Survivors include his wife Connie, of the home, two daughters, Verda Kay Flinn, of Ellis, Kansas; Gerri Lou Tauber of Ogallah, Kansas. Grandchildren include Todd Flinn (Danielle), Ticha Altman (Ryan), and Murrae Rebarchek all of Oakley, Kansas; Dakota Rebarchek (Taylor) of Quinter, Kansas; Cole Feldt of WaKeeney, Kansas. Kathleen Anne (Kowalke) Foster, 52, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at her home in Russell.

Kathleen was born October 6, 1967, in Colby, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Herman Sr. and Margaret Anne (McGee) Kowalke.  She grew up in Densmore and Logan, Kansas, and graduated from Hill City High School.  She then attended Colby Community College and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.

Kathleen was united in marriage to Kent Alan Foster on April 21, 2006, in Laughlin, Nevada.  They made their home in Russell.

Kathleen was a Sales Clerk of Liquor Station in Russell.  She was an Assistant Manager for Dollar General for many years.  Before that, she worked on the assembly line at King Of The Road.  She enjoyed drawing, coloring, spoiling her cats, feeding the neighborhood squirrels, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kathleen’s surviving family include her husband of fourteen years Kent of the home; son, Anthony Corbin (Terri) of Hill City, Kansas; daughters, Jessica Harenberg (Josh) of Goodland, Kansas and Allison Corbin (Robert Schnug) of Goodland, Kansas; step-sons, Brent “B.S.” Foster (Keri) of Mesa Arizona and Tyler Drake of Clinton, Missouri; brothers, Herman Kowalke, Jr. of Hill City, Kansas, Virgil Wilcox, Jr. of Hays, Kansas and Darold Kowalke of Laughlin, Oklahoma; sisters, Kandy Worcester of Hill City, Kansas and Peggy Myers of Norton, Kansas; and eight grandchildren.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and brother Harold Kowalke.

Haven, KS resident Garold W. Randall passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at his home.&nbsp; He was 76.

He was born November 1, 1943, in Webster, KS the son of Harvey and Iris (Garringer) Randall.

Garold was united in marriage to Cathy Sue Davis on June 8, 1968, in Glade, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death in 2009.

Survivors include his son Kaelen of Hutchinson, KS; two daughters, Alisa Randall of Hutchinson and Stephanie Showalter of Haven; a brother Ronald Randall of Hutchinson; a sister Marilyn Chestnut of Phillipsburg; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2020 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel FaceBook page.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade, KS, with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force.

Ronald Louis Thyfault, 91, died in his 
home surrounded by his wife of 69 years and family after battling 
coronavirus for 10 days. His last hours were filled with prayer and 
singing, two of his favorite pastimes. For a man who survived many 
careless stunts, it was often said that the Heavens were not ready for 
his spunky spirit, quick wit and never ending chain of one-liners. In 
the end, no one could resist his bright smile, warm heart and charm. On 
July 15th, 2020, he was finally called home. We can’t blame them for 
wanting to bring his loving spirit and warmth to join his parents, Louis
 and Jeanette (Thibault) Thyfault, and his brother Mose Thyfault and 
sister Teresa Benoit. His surviving sister Germaine, will have to wait 
here with the rest of us.

Ronald was born May 19, 1929. He 
married Virginia Arpin (surviving) June 12, 1951 in St. Joseph Catholic 
Church, in Damar, Kansas. Together they lived in Damar building a life 
around farming and family. His years were filled with milking cattle, 
raising horses, farming and a lot of wine making, with the patent on 
wheat wine. We can’t forget his love of sports, any and all sports. He 
was known as an athlete in his younger years and that passion carried on
 to his last days. The Chiefs winning the superbowl for the second time 
in his life was icing on the cake. Ronald didn’t know a stranger, he 
could talk for hours with anyone. Those who knew him for a minute or a 
lifetime were likely called some endearing name such as big butt, 
squirrel or smelly.&nbsp;

As a father, he taught his nine 
children diligence and hard work. His ways were often blunt and sharp. 
As a result, we grew thick skin and a strength of character to stand and
 think for ourselves. In his era, he witnessed the civil rights and 
women's rights movement. He was progressive beyond his time. A father to
 numerous daughters, he instilled in us that we could do anything and 
that there was no such thing as man's work or women's work at the farm. 
We all worked.

Ronald taught all of his children -- 
daughters and sons alike -- to farm, repair machinery, and to be 
independent and headstrong. (Some may say he taught that a little too 
well.) In his ruggedness, however, he was not too big of a man to comb 
and braid a little girl's hair. He lived most of his life as a very 
strong and active man. He softened greatly as his body began to fail. He
 said “I love you” and “thank you” sincerely and often. He was extremely
 grateful for the love, caring and companionship that he was given. He 
often said and fully embraced the words “Thy Will Be Done” as he put his
 faith in God to guide him in life and us, as we cared for him in his 
last years.

Ronald and Virginia together had nine 
children all surviving: Rhonda Anderson (John) of Grand Junction, CO; 
Lois Wolf (Richard) of Loveland, CO; Anita Strecker (Delvin) of Salina, 
KS; Cheryl Dempsey (Justin) of Schoenchen, KS; Lisa Thyfault (Bryan 
Donaldson) of Scottsdale, AZ; Ronald P Thyfault (Dawn) of Plainville, 
KS; Kevin Thyfault of Towanda, KS; Melani Ward (Barry) of Belaire, KS 
and Amy Normandin (Brent) of Hays, KS. His family includes his 
granddaughter Nicki Lind (Mike) of Hays, KS along with a total 31 
grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren and two more on the way.

Due to Ronald’s COVID-19 status as well
 as several in the family recovering from the virus a private gathering 
was held July 16th.&nbsp;

Ronald Louis Thyfault

An angel left this earth July 24th, 2020. She was born Mary JoAnn Fink 
on July 12, 1934, to Ernie and Ruby (Jones) Fink, near Monument KS. 
JoAnn managed to become the world’s most spoiled depression baby ever. 
Her father Ernie was the first to begin what would become a lifetime of 
letting JoAnn get her way. She attended both Monument and Oakley 
schools, graduating in 1952. On her 18th birthday in 1952 she married 
Herbert Clovis Teeter. Herb was next in line for spoiling JoAnn. Herb 
was stationed in Memphis TN. Her first job was at a Russell Stover 
counter. They then moved to Ardmore OK and then JoAnn moved back to 
Oakley when Herb was sent overseas. In 1955 they purchased a farm north
 of Oakley. 1957 brought the birth of their 1st daughter, Tamera Jo. 
They then forgot to have a second child for about 20 years, Tracee being
 born in 1976. JoAnn was always working. Driving harvest trucks, 
cleaning homes, painting, school paraprofessional, church cleaning, 
mowing and her all-time favorite activity was rental house collecting. 
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Garden Club, PEO and numerous 
other organizations. 
Herb and JoAnn traveled extensively during their marriage. JoAnn was 
very proud to have earned her pilots license when they owned a plane. 
Mainly she got it just in case Herb crashed the plane, which he did... 
Smart lady! Mom was fond of saying that they would have the farm paid 
off sooner had they not taken so many Hawaii trips. During the 70s she 
and sister Glennis ran ParTee Ceramics out of her shop. Lots of painting
 and memories were made at the time. Many students will remember her as a
 para and running the concession stands. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Ernie Fink; husband 
Herb; a daughter Tammy Teeter and a grandson Morgan. She is survived by a
 sister Glennis Parsons and daughter Tracee Teeter (and the world’s best
 son in law Randy Swart). A host of other family and friends will miss 
her but most importantly will be her precious Ernie cat. Donations of

Mary Joann (Fink) Teeter

Phyllis Elaine Higgins, age 85, passed away peacefully at the
 Homestead Memory Care facility in Olathe, Kansas, on Friday morning, 
April 17th, 2020.&nbsp; Born Phyllis Elaine Rein to Edward (Eddie) Rein and Mildred M. McKittrick on December 12th,
 1934 in Ness County, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the oldest of six siblings 
growing up in rural Rush County. She graduated in 1952 from McCracken 
High School.&nbsp; While she was a resident of McCracken, she was an active 
member of the historic St Mary’s Catholic Church.

Though growing up and eventually returning to McCracken, she 
lived several years in Liberal, Kansas raising her family. Upon retuning
 to McCracken, Kansas in 1978, she and her husband, Lester Higgins, 
owned and operated the local Hardware Store.&nbsp; Later in life, she moved 
to Emporia and, eventually, Olathe, Kansas to be closer to family.

She is preceded in death by her husband James Lester Higgins,
 parents Mildred and Eddie Rein, brothers Danny and Donnie Rein, all 
from McCracken, Kansas.&nbsp; She is survived by her sister Sheryl and Benny 
McCaskey of Great Bend, KS and their family, sister Madeline ‘Maddy’ 
Petz of Hutchison, KS and family and brother James ‘Jim’ Rein, also of 
Hutchison, KS.

Her entire life Phyllis enjoyed entertaining and visiting her
 family, especially her 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 4 
great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is survived by daughter Cindy Cannatella, her 
husband Paul and grandson Paolo of Houston, TX.&nbsp; Daughter Katie Wills 
and husband Marvin of Gatesville, TX.&nbsp; Granddaughters Sarah Knight and 
her husband Kynn, 2 great-grandchildren, Charles and Charlotte of 
Cypress, TX. Granddaughter Rachael Creel and her husband Sam, 2 
great-grandchildren Leon and Stella of Newcastle, TX.&nbsp; Son Kelly Walker,
 his wife Alannah and 3 grandchildren, Davin, Kael and Cullen, of 
Magnolia, TX.&nbsp; Daughter Sabrina Hurt, husband Ron and grandson Samuel of

Carol J. Schaben, 79, &nbsp;passed away peacefully on June 25, 2020, at Benton House of Lenexa which was her home since 2017.&nbsp;

Carol was born September 11, 1940, in Bison, KS.&nbsp; She was the first 
of three children born to John and Monica Unrein.&nbsp; Carol was a 1958 
graduate of LaCrosse High School.

Carol spent her first 19 years in LaCrosse, KS enjoying a very large 
and extended family.&nbsp; At 19 years old Carol married Tommy Schaben of 
Bazine Kansas.&nbsp; They settled in Independence Missouri and continued to 
farm in Bazine Kansas on the weekends.&nbsp;

Carol worked in the commercial insurance industry for Chubb Insurance
 for 38 years.&nbsp; She began her career as an audit clerk and retired as an
 Operations Service Manager. Carol was very active in the Greater Kansas
 City Insurance Association for many years and was named Insurance Woman
 of The Year in 1989.

After retiring from Chubb Insurance in 1998, Carol began a second 
career as the Business Manager for Nativity of Mary Catholic Parish and 
Grade School in Independence, MO for several years. She was a member of 
Nativity of Mary Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic minister 
for many years.

Carol also helped found the Jackson County Free Health Clinic of 
Independence MO in 2000. Carol coordinated volunteer doctors, nurses, 
pharmacists and support staff. The Clinic served economically 
disadvantaged individuals in Independence, MO with medical and 
prescription needs every week.

Carol is survived by her daughter &amp; son in law, Patti &amp; Mike 
Bryant, Lenexa, KS and grandson &amp; wife, Brent &amp; Danielle 
Haskell, Ansonia, OH.

A committal&nbsp;service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at the Bazine Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Helen Kay Brainard Rhodes was a beloved wife, sister, mother, 
grandmother, great-grandmother and member of the Jennings community. She
 was born on January 11, 1940, and attended high school in Oberlin, KS. 
Since the family lived so far in the country that commuting every day 
was impractical, Helen boarded with a family in town to complete her 
education. She married Bud Rhodes on January 20, 1957, and together, 
they raised three children. 
 Helen had really soft hands and a good heart. After completing her 
education at Colby Community College in 1973, she worked at the Good 
Samaritan in Oberlin, and then the Norton County Hospital, where she was
 an LPN for several years. There, she was known for her hard work, 
kindness to patients, and extra words of comfort and support for those 
who needed it most. She cooked supper nearly every night after work. 
There were never any leftovers, because her kids always ate everything 
there was. 
 Away from work, Helen was a member of the United Methodist Women, a 
member of the Tuesday Study Club of Jennings, and a founding member of 
the Jennings Book Club, which surprised exactly no one, because Helen 
loved to read and to complete the crosswords in the Salina Journal. She
 also loved to birdwatch. Helen and Bud could often be found at the 
kitchen table in the morning, watching the birds in the backyard. 
 Helen never had a bad word to say about anyone. If her kids did 
something silly or stupid, which was known to happen, you didn’t hear 
about it from her. She served others quietly and often in the 
background. Helen cared for both of her parents when they were sick and 
elderly. She was active at the Methodist Church in Jennings, was 
extremely involved in Vacation Bible School, and in her retirement ran 
the Jennings Library. Her grandkids remember that if she was not with 
them, she was likely to be found at church. 
 Despite her kindness and calm demeanor, Helen came with a steel will
 and a good backbone. She survived polio as a child, and heart surgery 
in later years. When her kids screwed up, they knew it right away just 
from the look she gave them. In retirement, Helen decided she’d like to 
have a dog. Her husband, Bud, was less keen on the idea. After she had 
been talking about it for a while, he suggested they make a pro and con 
list. Helen looked at him and said, “Bud, we’re going after the dog 
tomorrow.” And they did. After that, her beloved corgi, Jazzy, joined 
Helen and her lifelong friend, Marge, on their numerous and lengthy 
walks around Jennings and the surrounding countryside.
 For Mother’s Day one year, Bud presented Helen with a chainsaw for a
 present, sure that she would appreciate the practicality. Helen was 
none too pleased, so she went into town and bought a painting she’d been
 eyeing for some time but considered too expensive, as a present for 
herself. 
 Grandchildren and children recall that Bud and Helen’s home was a 
prime meeting spot before and after sporting events for friends. They 
always had food, cold pop, and, after its invention, a Nintendo video 
game system in the basement. Bud and Helen’s house was generally a 
peaceful, welcoming place. Mornings at Grandma Helen’s house often 
featured Froot Loops, grapefruit, or scrambled eggs and toast. She loved
 the piano and played at church and for her husband, and also taught 
several grandkids how to play. She also enjoyed taking grandchildren and
 children fishing, or teaching them dominoes, cards and Yahtzee. 
 Helen’s children and grandchildren are grateful for the excellent 
care provided by the Good Samaritan home in Oberlin, KS, where Helen 
lived for the last three years of her life, due to dementia. 
 Helen passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of the 
morning on Monday, July 27th. She will be deeply missed by those she 
leaves: her children; Jeff, Jerry, and Karen (Kevin); her eight 
grandchildren: Ben (Kelsey), Nickie (Mat), Corey (Ryan), Jessica 
(Tyler), Megan (Justin), Amanda, Katie, and Zachary (Maria); her 
siblings: Bill Brainard (Jean), Ruth Ridge (Jerry), and Donald Brainard 
(Kathy); as well as Ben and Nickie's mom, Sheila, and twenty-one 
great-grandkids. She’s preceded in death by: parents, William H. and 
Lydia (Talbet) Brainard, husband, Richard Bud Rhodes, sisters Terry 
Budig and Elizabeth Brainard, and daughter-in-law Lisa Rhodes.

Helen Kay Brainard Rhodes

Stanley D. Stephens, 63, of Oakley, died Monday, July 27, 2020, at his 
home. 

He was born December 6, 1956, in Oakley, KS, to Robert and Elsie 
(Suter) Stephens. Stanley married Lisa Kruse on June 18, 1982 and to 
this union they were blessed with four children. He was a farmer, 
cattleman and a welder. He proudly received the Century Farm Award from 
the Salina Diocese Rural Life Commission. Stan was a member of St. 
Joseph’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He served on the 
Grinnell School Board for 6 years and was a proud member of the NRA and 
GOP. Stan had a love for music, sports and following the weather report.
 He had a gift for writing letters and poetry. Above all, Stan had a 
love for his family and treasured being around his children and 
grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Sheena Stephens and 
grandparents, John and Rose Stephens and John and Clara Suter. 
He is survived by his wife Lisa; children, Sarah Bixenman, Marie “Angie”
 (Justin) Helus and Robert “Robbie” Stephens II; siblings, Sr. Judy 
Stephens, Roberta Jean (Jerry) Gormley, Mary Lou (Jerry) VanEaton, Bob 
(Cheryl) Stephens and JoAnne (Harold) Crispin and five grandchildren, 
Brogan and Harleigh Bixenman and Elsie, Vera and Jonny Helus. 
Funeral Mass is 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic 
Church, Oakley, with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Grinnell.

 </figure>Stanley D. Stephens, 63, of Oakley, died Monday, July 27, 2020, at his 
home. He was born December 6, 1956, in Oakley, KS, to Robert and Elsie 
(Suter) Stephens. Stanley married Lisa Kruse on June 18, 1982 and to 
this union they were blessed with four children. He was a farmer, 
cattleman and a welder. He proudly received the Century Farm Award from 
the Salina Diocese Rural Life Commission. Stan was a member of St. 
Joseph’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He served on the 
Grinnell School Board for 6 years and was a proud member of the NRA and 
GOP. Stan had a love for music, sports and following the weather report.
 He had a gift for writing letters and poetry. Above all, Stan had a 
love for his family and treasured being around his children and 
grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Sheena Stephens and 
grandparents, John and Rose Stephens and John and Clara Suter. 
He is survived by his wife Lisa; children, Sarah Bixenman, Marie “Angie”
 (Justin) Helus and Robert “Robbie” Stephens II; siblings, Sr. Judy 
Stephens, Roberta Jean (Jerry) Gormley, Mary Lou (Jerry) VanEaton, Bob 
(Cheryl) Stephens and JoAnne (Harold) Crispin and five grandchildren, 
Brogan and Harleigh Bixenman and Elsie, Vera and Jonny Helus. 
Funeral Mass is 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic 
Church, Oakley, with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Grinnell.

Alan DeWitt Beougher 

Bernard Adolph Demel, 84, passed away July 24, 2020, in Norman, Oklahoma.

He was born February 9, 1939, on a farm near Odin, Kansas, the fourth
 of nine children born to Alois and Christina (Schneweis) Demel.

He met Joyce Kathleen (Kathy) Lane in in 1957 and they were married October 17, 1959.

While a boy during WWII, Bernie would watch pilots practice bombing 
runs over Cheyenne Bottoms. He had a life-long interest in planes and 
aviation and in 1964 he earned his Private Pilot License. For a time, 
had a part ownership in a small plane.

He was always inquisitive about how things worked and could 
disassemble (and successfully reassemble) nearly anything. As a youth he
 built a motorized wagon from parts in a scrap pile. To his high school 
friends he was known as "Mac" for his mechanical abilities.

He applied those talents in the U.S. Army, serving his country for 
three years at Fort Ord, CA and Fort Lewis, WA as a tank mechanic.

Following his honorable discharge from the service, he studied 
electronics at DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. He returned home to
 work in a radio and television repair shop in Great Bend.

In 1964 he began working for Western Power &amp; Gas Company at the 
Mullergren power plant west of Great Bend. His role as a 
journeyman-repairman was principally instrument repair and maintenance, 
but his favorite times were when engineers would visit for major 
overhauls because he “always learned so much” during those projects. He 
was involved in nearly all aspects of the plant and spent 2 years as the
 Plant Superintendent. He retired from the company in 1995 and, in 
typical fashion, spent his retirement years continuing to learn by 
watching educational videos.

Bernie was also a farmer. He was descended from farmers and spent 
much of his youth living away from home working for his uncle on his 
farm. He and two brothers formed a hog raising partnership for a time 
and he worked many years for his brother Lawrence as his second job. In 
1974 he moved his family from Great Bend onto his own farm near 
Hoisington where he raised mostly cattle, wheat, and alfalfa.

He also built the family home. What began as a repair and update to 
the turn-of-the-century home on the property ended up as a tear-down 
when extensive structural damage was discovered. A replacement house was
 built from the foundation up by the family, with Bernie installing all 
of the electrical and plumbing, mixing and pouring the concrete for the 
front porch, and even laying the brick for chimney. There were few 
things he could not do well.

While not necessarily an “environmentalist”, he saw the wisdom of 
taking care of the land because when he worked with nature instead of 
trying to control it he had better results. He enjoyed observing nature 
and when returning from working the fields he would often relay stories 
of the wildlife he’d observed.

He retired from farming in 2001 and after relocating to Norman, OK, 
he and Kathy traveled. They visited Italy, Alaska, and Hawaii, and 
crossed through the Panama Canal twice. They visited New England, the 
upper-Midwest, and Washington DC, and ventured into the canyons of the 
western US &amp; Mexico. In 2016 he traveled to Maine, having now 
visited all 50 states. He claimed one of his favorite places was Costa 
Rico.

He joined the Knights of Columbus on January 1, 1955 and was the 
second longest serving Knight in Council 12108, having been a faithful 
Knight for 65 years.

Bernie died of complications from dementia. Over a number of years 
the disease took away the man he was and eventually led to a broken hip 
that sapped his life from him.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathy Demel of the home; 
three sons, Kent Demel and his wife Colleen of Fort Worth, TX, Kevin 
Demel of Fort Worth, TX, and Kelly Demel and his wife Kim of Overland 
Park, KS; one daughter, Karen Sneed and her husband Steve of Norman, OK;
 and seven grandchildren: Eli, Emily, Erin, CJ, Cayton, Kelsey, and 
Kolin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Demel and Tony
 Demel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 
2020, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Norman. The service 
will be live-streamed at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3RBxYgF2PJKaS7zqz6gnkw">https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3RBxYgF2PJKaS7zqz6gnkw</a> and people are encouraged to attend virtually.

Caroline A. Lietz, age 53, of Hays, 
Kansas passed away July 23, 2020 at Hays Medical Center. She was born 
December 12, 1966 in Hays to Leo and Annabelle (Schmidt) Lietz. Caroline
 (more affectionately known as Carrie) was full of love and contagious 
laughter.&nbsp; Her love for her family, especially her nieces and nephews, 
was only matched by her love for her animals (Samba and Noodle)&nbsp;

She is survived by four brothers, Jack 
Lietz of Las Vegas, Bill Lietz of Lawrence, Tom Lietz of Hays and Steve 
(Kim) Lietz of Las Vegas; nephews, Jordan (Sarah) Lietz and Justin 
(Rachel) Lietz; nieces, Faith Lochmann and Christin Baxter; great

James Russel Cairns, age 75, of Hays, Kansas, died July 27, 2020, at Hays Medical Center Hays, Kansas.

He was born on November 7, 1944, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, to Rev. J. Russell and Grace (Woolridge) Cairns.

In 1965, Reverend Cairns moved his family to Hays, Kansas, to minister The Assembly of God Church. Jim married Gloria (Stremel) on July 19,1969, in Hays, Kansas and later they divorced in 1982.&nbsp;

Jim and Gloria had two children, Amy and Michael.&nbsp; After his second year of ministry college, Jim was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.&nbsp;

He was an office supply repair man for 20 years with Northwestern Office Suppliers in Hays.&nbsp; He later went on to drive a tour bus for All American Tours covering much of the United States and later drove the bus for Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays.&nbsp; He was a youth baseball coach in Kansas and Colorado, an avid reader/historian, photographer, sports fan, movie fan, decent golfer, and all around ornery rascal.&nbsp; He marched to the beat of his own drum, and he will be dearly missed.&nbsp;

Survivors include his son, Michael James Cairns, Hays, KS; one grandson, Dylan Jacobs, Omaha, NE; four sisters, Gracie Preston and husband, Tom, Detroit MI; Beverly&nbsp;

Bourquin and husband, Achille, Utica, KS; Sarah Stephens and husband, Wayne, Sacramento, CA; Thomasena Cairns, Winchester, VA; many nieces and nephews; and his companion and special friend, Gloria Herrman and family, LaCrosse, KS. &nbsp;

James Russel Cairns

Edward Charles ”Ed” Geary, 78 of Lebo, passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas. 

             He was born January 24, 1942 in in Norton, Kansas the son of Emmett and Dorothy Hardick Geary. Ed attended Densmore High School and graduated with the Class of 1960. Following high school, Ed took Barber Classes in Wichita.  He married the love of his life Dixie Beth Schick on May 29, 1964 in Logan, Kansas. A week after their marriage, Ed began a long career with King Construction Inc. 

Over the next few years, his job would take them throughout the state of Kansas from their first home in Hays to Salina, Cawker City, Hill City, and Lindsborg. Ed and Dixie would eventually make their home in Lebo in 1971. Ed continued as a Bridge Construction Foreman for over 40 years, retiring in 2007.  The last bridge that he built happened to be in the same location as the first bridge he was involved with building when he first moved to Lebo in 1971. Ed was a hard working man and that wouldn’t quit when he retired. So after retiring from King Construction Inc, it was no surprise that he began mowing yards and doing various odd jobs for the people of Lebo. 

Ed was an avid bowhunter, fisherman and all around outdoorsman. He enjoyed all things outdoors from hunting Elk in Colorado to hunting Coyotes in the pastures near Lebo. Ed was a founding member of Twin Lakes Bow Hunters Club. Over the years, he raised numerous hunting dogs and in the past several years he and Dixie enjoyed Yorkie and Maltese dogs. 

 Ed will live on in the hearts and memories of his devoted wife Dixie of their home in Lebo; daughters, Michelle  Geary of Lebo and Trease  (Roger) Gould of Lebo; a son, Curtis (Donna) Geary of Eureka; four grandchildren, Crystal Geary, Brent (Briana) Gould, Jacob (Sydney) Gould, Conner Gould and a great- granddaughter, Ellie Gould; a sister, Carolyn DeBoer; numerous special brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, close nieces, nephews and countless hunting buddies and dear friends. 

Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Geary. 

 Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial will follow services at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M., Wednesday evening at the funeral home. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.  Face coverings will be required while attending the visitation and service.

He was born January 24, 1942 in in Norton, Kansas the son of Emmett and Dorothy Hardick Geary. Ed attended Densmore High School and graduated with the Class of 1960. Following high school, Ed took Barber Classes in Wichita. He married the love of his life Dixie Beth Schick on May 29, 1964 in Logan, Kansas. A week after their marriage, Ed began a long career with King Construction Inc. Over the next few years, his job would take them throughout the state of Kansas from their first home in Hays to Salina, Cawker City, Hill City, and Lindsborg. Ed and Dixie would eventually make their home in Lebo in 1971. Ed continued as a Bridge Construction Foreman for over 40 years, retiring in 2007. The last bridge that he built happened to be in the same location as the first bridge he was involved with building when he first moved to Lebo in 1971. Ed was a hard working man and that wouldn’t quit when he retired. So after retiring from King Construction Inc, it was no surprise that he began mowing yards and doing various odd jobs for the people of Lebo. Ed was an avid bowhunter, fisherman and all around outdoorsman. He enjoyed all things outdoors from hunting Elk in Colorado to hunting Coyotes in the pastures near Lebo. Ed was a founding member of Twin Lakes Bow Hunters Club. Over the years, he raised numerous hunting dogs and in the past several years he and Dixie enjoyed Yorkie and Maltese dogs. Ed will live on in the hearts and memories of his devoted wife Dixie of their home in Lebo; daughters, Michelle Geary of Lebo and Trease (Roger) Gould of Lebo; a son, Curtis (Donna) Geary of Eureka; four grandchildren, Crystal Geary, Brent (Briana) Gould, Jacob (Sydney) Gould, Conner Gould and a great- granddaughter, Ellie Gould; a sister, Carolyn DeBoer; numerous special brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, close nieces, nephews and countless hunting buddies and dear friends. Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Geary. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial will follow services at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M., Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Edward Charles 'Ed' Geary

Grace Maxine (Pugh) Mahaffey, 80, of Colby, died Sunday, July 26, 2020, 
at Prairie Senior Living Complex, Colby. She was born January 22, 1940, 
in Stratton, CO, to Freddie and Alta (Miles) Pugh. Grace graduated from 
Stratton High School. She married Terrence Kiefer and they had 4 
children. Grace lived in Burlington, CO, where she was a member of the 
Rebekah Lodge. Grace later married Frank Mahaffey and moved to Goodland,
 KS. Upon Frank’s death in 2006 Grace moved to Colby, KS. She had worked
 as a nursing home CNA and enjoyed playing cards and crocheting in her 
spare time. Grace also loved being around her children and 
grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank; son Eddie Kiefer; grandson Terrence Kiefer; 5 brothers and 3 sisters. 
She is survived by her children, Freddie (Susan) Kiefer, Wellington, CO,

cats. She spent much of her time knitting prayer shawls, blankets for 
the homeless, and most recently baby clothes and blankets for her 
expectant daughter. She had a successful career as a bookkeeper in the 
oil field for many years in Hays, Kansas. She always enjoyed time with 
friends, family and her retirement home in Las Vegas, NV. Survivors
 include her husband, Don Kopfman, Hays, KS; two children, Crystal 
Payton, Annandale, VA, and Kevin Payton, Las Vegas, NV; step-children,

Colleen Robin Kopfman

On July 25, 2020, Erma Mae Pfeifer 
passed away at the Rhode Island Suites nursing home in Ransom, Kansas.&nbsp; 
She was born on January 2, 1929, at West Saline in Sheridan County, 
Kansas, to Alfred E. and Elsie (Adamson) Mills.&nbsp; She was the youngest of 
six children:&nbsp; Edward, Elbert, Evelyn, Elwood and Eva.&nbsp;

She grew up on a farm near Palco, 
Kansas but moved with her mother to Hoxie, Kansas during WWII.&nbsp; After 
the war, she met handsome army veteran Marcel Pfeifer, the love of her 
life.&nbsp; They were married on December 26, 1946, in Seguin, Kansas.&nbsp; Marcel
 and Erma eventually settled on a farm on the north fork the Solomon 
River near Studley, Kansas.&nbsp; They had eight children while on the farm.&nbsp;
 Marcel was an excellent farmer and Erma was his full partner in the 
enterprise.&nbsp; In 1979, they sold the farm and moved to Hays, Kansas where 
they built their dream home on Thunderbird Drive.&nbsp; Erma took a job at JC
 Penney that she loved.&nbsp; Erma was a social person and loved helping 
customers and visiting with them.&nbsp; Penney’s recognized Erma’s high 
quality and devoted service to the company with several awards that she 
was proud to receive.&nbsp;

Erma and Marcel were married for 64 
years when Marcel passed away in 2010. &nbsp;&nbsp;She is survived by Linda Deines
 and husband Dan of Manhattan, Brenda Bell and husband Ron of Manhattan,
 Marcella Bailey and husband Glen of Dodge City, Theresa Reeves and 
husband Jim of Oberlin, Roberta Eberle and husband Ted of Glen Elder, 
Brent Pfeifer of Dallas, Texas, and Shirley Logsdon and husband Max of 
Emporia.&nbsp; She had ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was
 preceded in death by her son Brian Pfeifer.&nbsp;

Alicia Christine Brull, 31, Hays, died Saturday, July 25, 2020 at her home.

She was born July 11, 1989 in Hays, the
 daughter of Christopher A. and Penny (Rupp) Brull.&nbsp; She was a graduate 
of Victoria High School in the class of 2007, graduated from Hays 
Academy of Hair Design, and was preparing to attend welding school this 
fall.&nbsp; Every year she helped her family with harvest and could drive 
every piece of farm machinery.&nbsp; She was very creative, artistic and 
loved to draw, stayed busy working on things, and enjoyed fishing, going
 to races, and making others look beautiful.&nbsp; Alicia loved to listen to 
music, was adventurous, and liked having a good time.&nbsp; She was sweet, 
kind, selfless, was a huge fan of Batman, and she loved her dog, Jade.

Survivors include her father and 
step-mother; Chris and Krista Brull of Victoria, her mother and 
step-father; Penny and Larry Logan of Atmore, AL, her grandparents; 
Allen and Karen Brull of Victoria and Barbara Rupp of Alamogordo, NM,

Alicia Christine Brull

Herbert Frederick Holste, age 95, of Ludell, Kansas, was called to his 
heavenly home on July 26, 2020. He was born on December 1, 1924, at the 
Holste farm northeast of Ludell, the son of Herman and Mary Hoffbauer 
Holste. 
God clothed Herbert with the righteousness of Christ when he was 
baptized on December 14, 1924 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Ludell by 
the Rev. Paul Strege. The Holy Spirit kept Herbert in the Christian 
faith as he was confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Immanuel, and as his 
membership moved to Grace Lutheran Church and then to Redeemer Lutheran 
Church in Atwood. He served in numerous capacities in this time frame, 
including church council secretary and trustee. Attending church was 
important to Herb, and when he was no longer able to be present 
physically, he would still worship through technology. 
Herbert attended Immanuel Lutheran School for his elementary education. 
He graduated from Atwood High School in 1942. He worked on the family 
farm at Ludell until 1950 when he joined the Army. Trained in Fort Sill,
 Oklahoma, he went on to serve his country in the Korean War repairing 
radios in Babenhausen, Germany. He returned to Ludell following his two 
years of service and began farming and eventually dairying with his 
brother Gerhard and family under the Holste Brothers partnership. 
Following Gerhard’s retirement from farming, Herb continued to dairy and
 farm with nephew Harlan and family. He retired in 1993 but remained 
living at his home in Ludell until his move to the Good Samaritan in 
Atwood in 2018. 
As the eighth of eleven children, Herb enjoyed his family immensely. He 
was close with his brothers, sisters, and their spouses, some who lived 
locally, and others who resided in distant states. He especially 
enjoyed extended summer visits from his brother Bob, and wife Betty, and
 his brother Herman, and wife Barb. He was blessed with 34 nieces and 
nephews who would keep in touch through mail or visits while in the 
area. 
Herb enjoyed traveling and was able to travel both throughout the states
 and into Europe and the Holy Lands. He once noted that one of his 
favorite trips was to Germany. As a single man, his travel companions 
included Johnny Dunker and Edwin Reuber as well as family members. 
Herb served in his community as a member of the COOP board and he spent 
more than 50 years on the Board of the Farmers State Bank. He also 
served as a Rawlins County Fair Board member. 
His hobbies included photography and woodworking. In his earlier years 
he loved creating slides of vacations and family events. As an 
accomplished woodworker, he built numerous pieces of furniture for his 
own use and the enjoyment of others. A particularly rewarding project 
was assisting with the altar, baptismal font, and communion rail which 
are in use at Redeemer today. He was a ready volunteer for Laborers for 
Christ when the educational wing was added to Redeemer. 
Herb enjoyed sports. As a young adult, he played softball on the Ludell 
team. Later, he followed the Atwood Buffaloes and the K-State Wildcats. 
He would often be found in the stands at the high school on Friday 
evenings watching the football or basketball games. It was especially 
important to him to attend a sporting event if a niece or nephew or 
great-niece or nephew were participating. On autumn Saturdays, Herb 
could be found faithfully watching Wildcat football from his recliner 
and was always ready to talk about the ups and downs of the game. 
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Clifton, 
Gerhard, Arthur, and Herman; sisters, Laurine Holste, Dorothy Lewis, 
Edith Wasserman, and MaryAnn Oelke; brothers-in-law, Jack Lewis and 
Gilbert Wasserman; sisters-in-law, Velma Holste, Irene Holste, Lorna 
Holste, and Doris Holste; nephew Duane Oelke; niece Traci Schmitt; 
nephew-in-law Butch Schartz; great-nephew Jonathan Ruda, and great-great
 nephews, Easton Holste and Daxton Willard. He is survived by brother 
Bob Holste and wife Betty, of Oviedo, Florida; brother-in-law Paul 
Oelke, of Hoxie, and sister-in-law Barbara Holste, of Auburn Hills, 
Michigan; as well as 32 nieces and nephews, 72 great-nieces and nephews,
 and many great-great nieces and nephews.

 Atwood. Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at

Gerhard, Arthur, and Herman; sisters, Laurine Holste, Dorothy Lewis, 
Edith Wasserman, and MaryAnn Oelke; brothers-in-law, Jack Lewis and 
Gilbert Wasserman; sisters-in-law, Velma Holste, Irene Holste, Lorna 
Holste, and Doris Holste; nephew Duane Oelke; niece Traci Schmitt; 
nephew-in-law Butch Schartz; great-nephew Jonathan Ruda, and great-great
 nephews, Easton Holste and Daxton Willard. He is survived by brother 
Bob Holste and wife Betty, of Oviedo, Florida; brother-in-law Paul 
Oelke, of Hoxie, and sister-in-law Barbara Holste, of Auburn Hills, 
Michigan; as well as 32 nieces and nephews, 72 great-nieces and nephews,
 and many great-great nieces and nephews.

Justin Timothy Franklin Lynn, 28, of New York City, New York, died on Monday, July 06, 2020 at his home in New York City.

Justin was born on October 04, 1991, in Girard, Kansas, the son of David L. Lynn, Sr. and Linda (Smith) McCulloch.&nbsp; He grew up in Russell, Kansas, and attended local schools.&nbsp; He achieved his G.E.D. and obtained an Associate’s Degree from Borough of Manhattan Community College (The City University of New York - CUNY). &nbsp;

He is survived by his mother Linda McCulloch and husband Mike McCulloch of Russell, Kansas, Kansas; brothers David Lynn Jr. of&nbsp; Russell, Kansas and Aaron McCulloch of Russell, Kansas; sisters Amanda Lynn of Salina, Kansas and Samantha McCulloch of Russell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his father David L. Lynn, Sr. on April 15, 1991.

He was enrolled to attend Baruch College in the fall of 2020 for a degree in accounting. He always strived to be the best he could be, living life to the fullest. He never failed to let family and loved ones know he was thinking about them and that he loved them. He was always trying to bring trying to bring people together.&nbsp;

A celebration of Justin’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 31, 2020, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.&nbsp; Cremation has been selected by the family.&nbsp; A private family graveside inurnment will take place at a later date at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Frontenac, Kansas.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Phyllis Jean Schuster, age 95, of Hays,
 KS passed away May 10, 2020 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.&nbsp; 
She was born October 30, 1924 in Garrison, KS to Jesse and Helen 
(McCann) Turley. She married William Schuster on September 13, 1947 in 
Ellis, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Phyllis was a United States Navy 
veteran.&nbsp; She was a member of the Hays Women’s Bowling Association for 
many years, as well as the Great Bend VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her sister, Donna 
Kay Dick of Russell, KS, sister in law Margaret Turley, Independence, 
MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Wayne Turley and Francis Turley.

Funeral services will be held at a

Phyllis Jean Schuster

Longtime Goodland, KS resident Jimmie "Jim" Lee Applebee, 85, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Topside Manor in Goodland.&nbsp; He was born on November 14, 1934, in Glen Elder, KS to Vinton (Shorty) and Ida (Lundy) Applebee.

Jim attended school in Glen Elder, graduating with the class of 1952.&nbsp; He attended Ft. Hays State his freshman year.&nbsp; Because he was at the top of the draft list, he sat out of school until January of 1955.&nbsp; He entered the Army during that time, and was stationed at Fort Orad, California and Fort Lewis, Washington.&nbsp; He spent 2 years in the Army Infantry and the 5 more years in the Army Reserves, and was discharged in 1962.

While being stationed at Ft. Lewis, Jim played football on the 9th Infantry Regiment team.&nbsp; After the service, he returned to school at Emporia State and graduated there in 1960, with a Bachelor of Science Degree.&nbsp; During the summer of 1970, he received his Masters of Science Degree from Ft. Hays State.&nbsp; While in College, Jim played football for both Emporia State and Ft. Hays State.&nbsp; Following his college career, Jim taught school and coached at Valley Falls, Sabetha, Ellis, Smith Center and Goodland.&nbsp; In 1994, Jim was inducted into the Ellis Teachers Hall of Fame.&nbsp; During that same year, Jim was awarded for Youth Service from the Goodland Chamber of Commerce.

On May 31, 1959, Jim married Marlene Michels at the Methodist Church in Hunter, KS.&nbsp; To this union, three daughters; Glenda, DeAnn and Susan were born.

Jim was a strict, but loving dad and family man.&nbsp; He loved to see his daughters together telling stories and hearing them laugh.&nbsp; His favorite family times were Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthdays and the 4th of July.&nbsp; He looked forward to buying fireworks for the grandkids, having a BBQ and always having homemade ice cream.

He worked at J&amp;J Feeders for several years.&nbsp; Also, he enjoyed driving a truck for Short and Sons now and then.&nbsp; He and Dick had some fun stories to tell.

Jim owned a golf cart business for 25 years until his health began to fail.&nbsp; He was an avid golfer.&nbsp; He enjoyed all sports and loved attending his Grandkids ballgames. &nbsp;

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, the Goodland Elks Lodge, Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity and a past member of the Sugar Hill Golf Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Vinton Jr., and an infant granddaughter Lisa Marie Dwyer.

He is survived by his wife Marlene of the home in Goodland, three daughters; Glenda (Dale) Dwyer of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, DeAnn (Marlin) Hillmer of Goodland, KS, and Susan (Kevin) Schmidt of Brewster, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by Eight Grandchildren; James (Sara) Dwyer, Hillary Dwyer (Tyson Frihauf), Tyler (Andrea) Hillmer, Angela (Corbin) Townsend, Ryan Hillmer, Jaden, Carson and Kamdyn Schmidt; two step granddaughters; Sally (Matt) Lahm and Lori (Craig) Rosales, nine great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Jim will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 10:30 AM MT at the United Methodist Church in Goodland with Pastor Zach Anderson officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.

Jimmie 'Jim' Lee Applebee

Velda Valjean Grammon, daughter of Oliver and Hazel (Buttermore) 
Campbell was born November 4, 1929, in Bloomington, Nebraska, and passed
 away on July 19, 2020, at the Logan Manor, at the age of 90.

She attended school in Smith Center, Kansas, and graduated from Smith
 Center High School.&nbsp; Velda was a waitress at a café in Smith Center 
where she met Ward Keith Grammon.&nbsp; They were married on September 17, 
1953, in Smith Center, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union four children were born: 
Roger, Paul, Beverly and Larry.

The family moved to Logan in 1962.&nbsp; Velda was a book keeper for her 
husband’s business along with being a homemaker.&nbsp; She loved crocheting, 
making quilts, reading, crossword puzzles and making some of the best 
pies and apple dumplings.

She was a member of the Logan Christian Church.

Velda and Keith were fortunate to be able to celebrate 63 years of marriage together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keith, brothers 
Warren, Dale, Marvin and Doyt Campbell, twin brother Eldon Campbell, 
sister Leola Johnson and great grandson Ethan Hockman.

Survivors include her children, Roger, Paul and wife Debra Grammon 
all of Logan, Beverly and husband Bob Hockman of Salina, and Larry and 
wife Rose of Canon City, CO; nine grandchildren, Wayne (Valorie) 
Grammon, Greg (Shannon) Grammon, Ward Grammon, Mathew Hockman, April 
Hockman (Steven Ralph), Devin Grammon, Heather (Leslie) Lewis, Ryan 
(Dana) Grammon and Michelle Shannon; eight great-grandchildren, Kendra 
Grammon, Aaron Grammon, Janelle Grammon, Cadence Lewis, Kealan Lewis, 
Anthony Grammon, Clay Grammon and Akira Grammon; as well as two special 
nieces, Cathy Winters and Sheila (Randy) Stocker.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A private memorial service will be held at 
10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020 in the Logan Christian Church with
