Prairie View, KS resident Wayne K. Rupke passed away Tuesday, 
August 18, 2020, at the Norton County Hospital, Norton, KS at the age of 
76.

He was born October 9, 1943, in Norton, KS the son of Walter J. and 
Freda L. (Schemper) Rupke. He graduated from high school in Prairie 
View.&nbsp; &nbsp;He went on to graduate from Fort Hays University with a degree 
in Industrial Arts.

Wayne was a part of the last draft for the Vietnam War in 1969 and served in the US Army.

Following his discharge he attended Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland and completed the plumbing program.

He began working for the State of Kansas at the Hospital for 
handicapped in Norton in the maintenance department and continued when 
it became the Norton Corrections Facility. He later retired after 34 
years there.

He met his wife at a Western Auto store in Norton and was later 
united in marriage to Leeta JoAnn Michael on April 28, 1979, at the 
Luctor Christian Reformed Church.

They were blessed with two children. Wayne loved to travel and 
enjoyed many trips with his wife as a result of her sales for a company 
she worked with at the time. She survives.

Wayne used his education to remodel and add onto his home In Prairie 
View and his plumbing knowledge served many of the folks in his 
hometown.

Wayne suffered the last ten years with complications from West Niles 
virus; later contracting diabetes and a heart condition which was 
determined to be a result of his service in Vietnam. Wayne was not a man
 who complained, but suffered much. In recent months he lost some of his
 toes and endured much discomfort. He is finally with no pain. We will 
miss him.

Wayne is survived by his wife JoAnn of the home in Prairie View, his 
son Vance M. Rupke of Jennings, KS; daughter, Emma A. Rupke of Topeka, 
KS; two sisters, Shirley (Art) Henrickson of Logan, KS and Wanda (Doug) 
Rahjes of Kensington, KS, many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020
 at the Prairie View Reformed Church, Prairie View, KS, with Pastor Lew 
VanDerWege officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel FaceBook page.&nbsp; Burial with military honors
 will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery.

Wayne will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 
p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends Friday evening from 7 p.m.
 until 8 p.m. all at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd St., Phillipsburg, KS&nbsp; 67661.

Wayne K. Rupke

James W. Wedermyer, age 89, of Goodland passed away Wednesday, August
 19, 2020.&nbsp; Jim was born on September 21, 1930 to V.V. and Emma 
(Mummert) Wedermyer in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

Jim grew up in Trego County. He attended country school through 
eighth grade and graduated from Trego County High School in 1948.&nbsp; He 
married Kathryn Neff on August 5, 1951 in WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp; To this 
union four children, Patti Lynn, Douglas Dean, Vicki Lea and David 
James.&nbsp; They farmed and raised livestock in Trego County until moving to
 Goodland in the fall of 1972, where he worked as a district manager for
 Moorman Feed Company for 23 years until retiring in 1993.&nbsp; Jim then 
opened Jim's Super Saw Sharpening Shop and worked for FSA measurement 
service.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jim was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, 
Methodist Men, the original Genesis Committee, Sherman County Carousel 
Committee, and the Men’s BS coffee group.&nbsp; He enjoyed attending and 
helping with anything at the Methodist Church. He loved to square dance,
 watch Nascar, baseball and spend time with family and friends.&nbsp; He 
dearly loved each one of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
After moving to Goodland, Jim and Kathryn were foster parents to 
approximately 30 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; daughter, 
Vicki Lea; sister, Virginia Hager; and brother-in-laws, Darrold Hager 
and John Kirkland.&nbsp;

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Patti Lynn Gray of 
Prairie Village, KS; son, Douglas Dean (Sandra) Wedermyer of WaKeeney, 
KS; son, David James (Laura) Wedermyer of Gainsville, VA; foreign 
exchange son, Preecha (Kanokkan) Sudhikam, Bangkok, Thailand; siblings,

James W. Wedermyer

Daniel "Dan" A. Schreiner, 97, was born
 May 31, 1923, to Joseph and Margaret (Kuhn) Schreiner in Hays, Kansas. 
He died on August 18, 2020, in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was educated in 
Hays and began home construction under the wing of his brother, Jerry.&nbsp; 
Later he branched out on his own and operated under “Schreiner 
Construction” building homes in Hays, WaKeeney and surrounding towns.

Dan met the love of his life, Jennie 
Ruder, and they were married on May 1, 1944.&nbsp; They raised five children 
in WaKeeney and later moved to Hays after retirement.&nbsp; Dan was an avid 
bowler and sponsored his own team for years.&nbsp; He and Jennie enjoyed 
entertaining friends for great meals, lots of card games, weekend dances
 and long visits over dessert and coffee.&nbsp; Their home was always “the 
place” for their five children to invite friends over to play 
basketball, eat like crazy and interact with Dan and Jennie. Dan was a 
loving, caring, faithful spouse, father, grandfather, and great 
grandfather as a carpenter following Christ's footsteps.&nbsp;

They both set a great example 
practicing their faith and that proved to be vital in getting through 
tough times and celebrating good times.&nbsp; Dan used a line repeatedly and 
that was,“There's a time to be serious, but not very often”.&nbsp; That 
seemed to put things into perspective in every area of his life. Dan was
 known for his long list of Schreinerisms (comical one liners) which 
produced eye rolls and laughter, and these will probably be passed onto 
future generations.&nbsp;

Dan was one of 13 children.&nbsp; &nbsp;Bill, 
Josie, Albert, Jerry, Irene, Oliva, Eddie, Helen, Clarence predeceased 
him.&nbsp; Adeline Saia, Topeka, KS, Joe (Marie) Las Vegas, NV and Herb 
(Dotsy) Albuquerque, NM are still living.

Other survivors include daughter Cori 
(Peter) Quist, Bismarck, ND, Art, Topeka, Stephen (Marcia)&nbsp; Manhattan, 
Noel,&nbsp; Manhattan, Neal (Martha) Spring Hill, 10 grandchildren including

52, of Hays, KS passed away on June 4, 2020 at Hays Medical Center. She 
was born October 17, 1968 in Hays to Donald and Virginia (Legleiter) 
Kinderknecht. She attended Hays High School.

She is survived by a daughter, Sierra 
Hoag; two grandsons, Colton and Chase; sisters, Sue Erbacher (Pody), 
Dana Schmidt (John) both of Hays Kimberly Farber (Alan) Commerce City, 
CO; brothers, Carl Kinderknecht, Hays and John Kinderknecht, Hutchinson,
 KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Debbra Kinderknecht; brothers, Michael and Marty Kinderknecht.

Therese M. Hoag

Mary Ann Heyen, 83, was called home to heaven on August 16, 2020 at 
her home surrounded by her family. She will be welcomed by her late 
husband, Meryle. Born March 15, 1937 to Jim (postmaster in St John) and 
Jennie Owen (teacher in Missouri) in Great Bend, Kansas during a snow 
storm. Her grandfather, C.A. Brown, donated a tract of land which is now
 known as the baseball park, swimming pool, shelter house, football 
field and Brown Park.

Mary Ann graduated in 1957 from St John High School, a 5th generation
 graduate. After high school Mary Ann went to college in Emporia, Ks and
 Gulf Port, Mississippi and studied nursing. In college she loved 
fencing and won many medals and trophies for her efforts. Mary Ann loved
 life and in the summer of 1956 worked at the North Pole in Colorado, at
 their grand opening as "Little Bo Peep" and an elf.

She married Meryle Heyen on October 18, 1958 at the Methodist Church 
in St John. Later she and Meryle joined the Church of Christ in 
Stafford. She belonged to the Modern Homemakers in Stafford, Great Bend 
Petroleum Club, she was a 50 year member (Golden Girl) of PEO in St 
John, and was a member of numerous bridge clubs in St John, Stafford, 
Great Bend, and Woodland Park Colorado.

Her hobbies were rock gathering in the mountains, estate and garage 
sales, collecting cut glass, old fruit jars, and barb wire. She loved 
going to Cripple Creek with her bridge friends and her niece Cappy and 
Sam. The love of her life besides Meryle were her dogs and 
great-grandchildren.

Survived by daughter Brenda Heyen of St John, grandchildren Erika 
Bebee and companion, Derek Jones, and Jaime Heyen. Great grandchildren 
Jadance Heyen, Jakobus "Kobi" Heyen, Elvin Jones, Colt Heyen and 
Remington Becker all of St John. Extended grandchildren, Leah Getty (Kip
 Ward, spouse), Travis Getty (Jamie Getty, spouse) and Heath Getty all 
of St John. Extended great grandchildren Hunter, Colton, and Addi Ward, 
Reese Getty, and Shyanna Rittel. She was proceeded in death by her 
parents, Jim and Jennie Owen, Brothers, Jimmy Phelps and Jack Brown 
Owen, three great grandchildren, Noah, Bjorn, and Luka and extended son 
Leonard Getty.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Friday, August, 21, 
2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 
to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2020, at
 2:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home, located at 1425 Patton Road, Great 
Bend, Kansas. Graveside services will follow in St. John. Memorials are

Frances J. (Vopat) Claussen passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth, at the age of 86. She was born on March 8, 1934 in Rural Lincoln County, Kansas to Joseph G. and Pauline M. (Kral) Vopat.

Frances moved to the Helus Farm when she was 5. As a young girl, she helped her parents with chores which included cooking, washing, gathering eggs and milking cows.

Frances attended Mt. Ayer School for eight years. She walked approximately three miles to school with her brother Richard. Winter walks were especially challenging because of the snow. During bad weather, a horse was her mode of transportation to school. Her seventh grade teacher was Van Earle Claussen, who later in life became her brother-in-law. Frances attended Wilson High School where her favorite subject was Algebra.

At the start of her senior year, she dated an attractive young man, Loyal Claussen. Her first date was to a barn dance. Following her graduation, she lived with Harry and Bertha Claussen while Loyal served in the Korean War. During this time she worked at Crown Laundry in Salina. On May 23, 1955 Frances was united in marriage to Loyal and in 1964 they moved to the Laverna Hunter Farm. It had just been remodeled with all the modern conveniences. She lived there approximately 50 years before the house burned in 2011. A new house was constructed on the same site in 2012.

Frances and Loyal had four children: Beverly, Nancy, Brad, and Dawn. They attended and supported many sporting events, music programs, dances, plays, speeches and activities. Frances’ children think of her as a wonderful mother who was very caring, loving, and always hard-working.

House cleaning was always a huge part of her life for over 40 years. She also enjoyed sewing and flowers. She loved doing for others and lived each day to the fullest. Frances was also a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Beverly (Larry) Vasko, Nancy (Randy) Peschka, Brad (Dorothy) Claussen, and Dawn (John) Dolezal; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Amber) Peschka, Amy (Scott) Phillips, Kelvi (Karlton) Place, Stacy Vasko, Courtney (Adam) Kramer, Ryan Claussen, Curtis Dolezal, and Colby (Sydney Rugan) Dolezal; 11 great-grandchildren, Lainey, Mallory, and Landon Peschka, Kinly, Kari, and Kaci Place, AJ Kramer, Aubrey Hudson, Logan Kirkbride, Leo Kramer, and Cory Davenport; and brother, Joe (Sheryl) Vopat.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Pauline; husband, Loyal; brother, Richard Vopat; and great-granddaughter, Karaline Place.

James W. Still, age 79, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.  He was born on February 2, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of William Brakey and Olive Blanche Holden Still.  A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1986 moving from Hugoton, Kansas, he was retired from working at Caspar Foods.

He was a member of the Community Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include two close friends, Darlene Richman of Scott City, Kansas, and Tina Turley of Scott City, Kansas.

James was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2020, with Ron Hess presiding.

Kay Beth Allen, 78, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at St. Catherine 
Hospital in Garden City. She was born on May 31, 1942 at Kellyville, 
Oklahoma the daughter of Ralph “Brown” &amp; Verla Daryl (Staiger) 
Begley. She married Jim Allen on September 7, 1963 at Hobbs, New Mexico. 
Kay Beth attended school in Kellyville, Oklahoma and then moved to 
Hobbs, New Mexico for and graduated from Hobbs High School. She received
 her Bachelor of Science in Education from Panhandle State University in
 Goodwell, Oklahoma. She and her husband moved to Hugoton where she 
taught second and third grades for 6 years. In 2013 they moved to Garden
 City. Kay Beth’s passion was following her grandchildren in every 
activity they participated in and spending time in their homes in 
Colorado and Arizona. 
She is survived by her husband- Jim Allen, daughters- Kimberly &amp; 
Justin Shaddix and Kristi &amp; Steve Nordby both of Garden City, 
brother- Jim &amp; Judy Begley of Atwood and 4 grandchildren- Abbi &amp;
 Cody Worden, Shea Nordby, Raegan Nordby and Mason Shaddix and numerous

Jacqueline Ann “Jackie” Walter, 94, died August 18, 2020, at Country 
Place Senior Living, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born June 12, 1926, in 
McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of John B. and Marie B. “Mabelle” (Amen) 
King. Jackie attended the Universtiy of Nebraska and received her 
bachelor degree in the college of music education. It was here that she 
met and married her husband I.C. “Ike” Walter. Jackie was privileged to 
study voice at the UNL with the renowned Dr. Arthur Westbrook. She was a
 member of the University of Nebraska Singers for four years and sang in
 the University Production. She was past president of Delta Omicron 
National Sorority and was a member of the Opera Carmen.

On December 18, 1948, she married Iven C. “Ike” Walter, at the 
Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1951 they moved 
to Hoisington where her husband was employed as the first full time 
Hospital Adminstrator at the Hoisington Lutheran Hospital. She was very 
active in the community and had served as choir director of Concordia 
Lutheran Church for over fifty years. Singing for weddings and funerals 
and other special events in the area kept her very busy. She was a 
member of Beta Sigma Phi, Social Sorority, Sacs, Social and Cultural 
Society, and was past president of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary 
League. She served on the board of directors of the Barton County 
Community Concert Association for many years where she was vice 
president and drive chairman. She was a charter member of the P.E.O. 
chapter GG, and a member of the Tri N Bridge Club. Jackie organized the 
Labor Day Royalty Night for the Labor Day Queen Contest and was MC for 
several years of the Royalty Pageant Night.

Jackie worked with her husband, Ike who was the owner and operator of
 the new Town &amp; Country Supermarket along with Ray and Dolores 
Deutsch in 1955 and for the next 20 years. She was then a partner with 
Ike in the Dairy Queen/Brazier business.

The Walter’s had three children; Becky Steiner and husband Leon of 
Hoisington, Roxanne Blowers and husband Bill of Hazelhurst, Wisconsin, 
and Steven Walter and wife Millie of Lawrence; other survivors include; 
two sisters, Patricia Conrad of Jacksonville, Florida, and Donna Walter 
of Goodyear, Arizona; five grandchildren, Tiffany Mansholt and husband 
Everett of Smith Center, Eric Steiner and wife Monica of Great Bend, 
Amber Crawford and husband John of Hoisington, Randy Walter and 
companion Sarah Murphy of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, and Ryan Walter and 
fiancee Korey Krodinger of Rogers, Arkansas; six great grandchildren, 
Ryker and Reed Mansholt, Isaac, Elijah and Ethan Steiner, and Mayla 
Crawford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ike, on January 27, 2017, and a sister, Darlene Clark.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 
with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. A Prayer Service at 7 
p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2020, at

Nicholas Aaron “Nick” VanCamp, 28, passed away August 17, 2020, at 
his home in Lawrence. He was born on November 4, 1991, in Hutchinson to 
Mark and Joyce (Rosenberg) VanCamp. He married Shelby Miller on July 29,
 2016, in Kansas City. She survives.

Growing up in Great Bend, Nick was a current Lawrence resident. He 
graduated from Great Bend High School and then attended Washburn 
University and Kansas State University, obtaining dual degrees at both 
institutions. Nick worked for Engineered Air in DeSoto as a mechanical 
designer. He loved to play the guitar and enjoyed listening to rock and 
roll, especially Van Halen. He especially enjoyed spending time with his
 family.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby VanCamp of the home; three 
children, Edward VanCamp, Neil VanCamp and Jillian VanCamp, all of the 
home; his mother, Joyce VanCamp of Great Bend; and five sisters, RayAnne
 VanCamp, Zora VanCamp, Jordis VanCamp, Kendalyn VanCamp, Tessa VanCamp,
 all of Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark 
VanCamp.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2020, 
at First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend, with Pastor Dwight Dozier

Goodland, KS resident Brenda Patricia Moss, 93, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby.

Brenda was born on June 10, 1927 in Patterson, Louisiana.&nbsp; She was the daughter of John T. and Bertha M. (Trepagnier) Peterson.&nbsp; She attended St. Theresa’s Elementary School, Horace Mann Jr. High and Thomas Jefferson High Schools in San Antonio, TX.

On August 5, 1945, she and Lt. Lewis R. Rueb were married at Randolph Field Chapel in San Antonio, TX.&nbsp; To this union, four children were born; Cynthia, Richard, Jackie and Alan.&nbsp; They divorced in 1964.

Brenda was a past president of VFW Auxiliary Post 1528; Legion Auxiliary, P.T. A. and Catholic Altar Society of St. Francis, KS.&nbsp; She was also active in Cub Scouts.

Brenda worked in Colby and St. Francis hospitals as a CNA, and also worked in Retail selling turquoise jewelry in Colorado and New Mexico.

On July 6, 1974, she and John Moss were married.&nbsp; They divorced in 1989.

Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant sister, a sister Patricia B. Despres, two sons Alan Keith Rueb and Richard Thomas Rueb, and a step-sister Sara Radicke.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia Schulte and husband Richard Beck of Topeka, KS, and Jackie and husband Bill Finley of Goodland, KS; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 10:30 AM MT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland with Father David Michael officiating.&nbsp; Interment will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery, St. Francis, KS.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.&nbsp; A Rosary service will follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Margie Ann (Walters) McGivern, 84, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020. She
 was born June 24, 1936, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Albert and 
Wilamina (Graf) Walters. She graduated from the Girls Catholic High 
School of Hays in 1954. Mrs. McGivern was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Margie married John “Jack” F. McGivern, II on June 23, 1956 in Hays, Kansas. Survivors
 include her husband Jack McGivern; her children, John (Sheila) 
McGivern, Mark McGivern, Lisa (Scott) Belden, Tim McGivern, Lynn (Karry)

Steven H. Appel, 61, passed away August 17, 2020 at the University of Kansas Health System’s Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.

He was born November 6, 1958 to Harley B. Appel and Nancy Brinkman 
Appel in Minneola, Kansas. They later divorced and Suzanne Appel became 
his second mother.

Steve and Rogene Kees Appel married December 31, 1979 and had one son, Shane S. Appel.

Steve was known in the area as a John Deere mechanic which he did for
 forty years. He graduated in 1976 from Marysville High School but 
claimed Kinsley as his home town where he attended school up to his last
 couple of years.

He is survived by his wife, Rogene; one son, Shane (Dana) Appel, 
Larned; grandmother, Helene Glynn, Marysville; five sisters, Terri (Tim)
 Fuller, Hutchinson, Sherri (Rickie) Baugh, Phoenix, Arizona, Kelli 
(Eric) Strichternath, Marysville, Jodi (Kevin) O’Neil, Beattie, Jill 
(Kevin) Murphy, Stewart, Nebraska; brother, Charles Kent Appel,&nbsp; 
Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters, Aubree (Brandon) Appel, Zahara 
(Matt) Reason; four grandsons, Zach (Tera) Harper, Zane Harper, Zeth

Mary Ann Keil, 90, Hays, died Monday, August 17, 2020 at HaysMed.

She was born June 24, 1930 in Park, 
Kansas, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Dreher) Krannawitter.&nbsp; She 
graduated from Hoxie High School in 1948.&nbsp; On April 15, 1950 she was 
united in marriage to Dell Keil in Hoxie, and they celebrated 65 years 
of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 27, 2015.&nbsp; She worked
 in the sewing department at ALCO for 19 years and was very active in 
the community as a volunteer at the Ellis County Historical Society, 
Community Assistance Center, and with the Read to Me program at 
Washington Elementary School.&nbsp; Her memberships included Immaculate Heart
 of Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella Circle #254, To Jesus 
Through Mary Prayer Group, and Extension Homemakers Units.&nbsp; She was a 
loyal fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs and the KU Jayhawks.&nbsp; Her
 family was very important to her and she loved attending her 
grandchildren’s sporting, theater, and music events.

She is survived by her five children, 
eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and her sister, Ruth 
Hoff of Baldwin City.&nbsp; Children and their families include:&nbsp; Larry Keil 
and wife Sandy of Hays, and their sons Garrett and Jordan and wife 
Shauna; Janet Karlin and husband Charlie of Overland Park, and their 
sons Scott and Christopher; Kay Murphy and husband Kevin of Edmond, OK, 
and their children Carrie Martin and husband John, Kyle Murphy and wife 
Ashley and children Kate, Harris, and Caroline, and Allison Vaughan and 
husband Brian and daughters Macy and Ava; Jon and Patricia Keil of 
Charlotte, NC, and their sons Colin and Dane; and Steve and Dawn Keil of
 Hays, and their daughters Hannah Dreiling and husband Dane and Alyssa.

She was preceded in death by her

Mary Ann Keil

Philip Dale Davis died on August 13,2020. He was born October 24, 1931 
to George and Gaynell (Fuerstock) Davis and was the youngest of nine 
children. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, 
Jody; brothers, Harlan, Donald, and Harold and sisters, Vida 
Arimintrout, Thelma Davis, Elizabeth “Betty Lou” Mudgett, and Shirley 
Gregory. 
Phil’s interest in horses began at a very young age while helping his 
uncle on the farm where he learned to drive a team of horses. In 1940, 
after his father was killed in a farm accident, the family moved to 
Greeley, where an owner of a horse barn recognized Phil’s talent which 
led to his first job with the Remount Ranch in Cheyenne, Wyoming, after 
he graduated from High School in 1950. 
In August of 1952, his cowboy ways had to be put on hold as he was 
drafted into the Army during the Korean War. Phil served in the HQ 
Company 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment and was released from 
active duty in August of 1954. He was placed in the Army Reserves and 
later Honorably Discharged. 
Upon returning home, Phil went back to work for the Remount Ranch, 
deciding shortly after that he needed to increase his knowledge of 
cattle and horses. So, Phil and his best friend, Joe Maldonado, left to 
travel and work on several different ranches from Arizona to Montana. 
On June 14, 1956, he met Jody Redman, the blonde that would forever 
change his life. They married on November 1, 1958, in Fort Collins, 
Colorado. This union, by a small miracle, produced one child the 
following year, a daughter, Julie Dawn. Phil and Jody moved to Elbert 
County, in 1958, where they would spend the rest of their lives. They 
celebrated 57 years of marriage before she died in 2015. 
Phil’s first job upon moving was for the John Ewing Company where he was
 hired to manage a herd of yearlings, band of broad mares, and to their 
surprise a band of sheep. In 1968, Phil went to A.I. school and life on 
the ranch soon changed as all efforts were focused on building a 
cow-calf purebred Charolais herd. Out of this effort came a prize herd 
of cattle as well as Phil’s passion to become the best A.I. technician. 
Phil, along with others from Elbert county were pioneers in the cattle 
industry as artificial insemination changed the landscape. After 12 
years, his skill landed Phil his second and final job in Elbert County 
with Rob Brown from Throckmorton, Texas. 
Phil and Jody helped Rob establish Brown Simmental Breeders which later 
became the RA Brown Ranch. Their program resulted in many award-winning 
cows and a very prominent Simmental breeding program. With Jody by his 
side, keeping records, Phil managed the place like it was his own and 
success was achieved. Phil’s conception rate as an A.I. technician was a
 solid 97% during his time on the ranch. Phil and Jody were part of what
 became known as the RA Brown Legacy. After many years of success and 
accolades with the ranch, Phil retired after 40 years. 
One thing a person might overlook was Phil’s ability on a horse. He had a
 talent for breaking colts and by the time he was finished they were cow
 horses. You had better be paying attention while riding a horse he 
trained or else you would find yourself on the ground like a few of his 
daughter’s suitors. All of the cattle work was done using horses and 
just because he carried a rope didn’t mean he always used it. Phil was 
simply a great herdsman, horseman, and the cowboy that always rode for 
the brand. 
Phil was also active in the Douglas-Elbert County Livestock Association 
and the Elbert County Fair Board for over 35 years, where he served as 
the President of the fair board for several years. While President of 
the fair board he helped to obtain the money used to build the livestock
 arena and the ag building. You would always find him supporting Jody 
with her many volunteer organizations and activities. 
He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Walt) Marble of Atwood, KS; two 
grandchildren, Echo (Jacob) Hagler of Atwood, KS and Chance (Michelle) 
Marble of Brewster, KS; adopted grandson, Ethan (Whitney) Smith, of 
Colby, KS; his brother, Marvin of Sinclair, WY; three great 
grandchildren, Emma, Ben, and Ella Hagler of Atwood, KS; as well as 
numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and a multitude of extended family 
and friends. 
Memorial Service will 10:00 a.m., Friday 21, 2020, Agate Church, Agate, 
CO. A private Inurnment will be held at later date. In lieu of flower 
memorials are suggested to help defray funeral costs in care of Baalmann
 Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On June 14, 1956, he met Jody Redman, the blonde that would forever 
change his life. They married on November 1, 1958, in Fort Collins, 
Colorado. This union, by a small miracle, produced one child the 
following year, a daughter, Julie Dawn. Phil and Jody moved to Elbert 
County, in 1958, where they would spend the rest of their lives. They 
celebrated 57 years of marriage before she died in 2015. 
Phil’s first job upon moving was for the John Ewing Company where he was
 hired to manage a herd of yearlings, band of broad mares, and to their 
surprise a band of sheep. In 1968, Phil went to A.I. school and life on 
the ranch soon changed as all efforts were focused on building a 
cow-calf purebred Charolais herd. Out of this effort came a prize herd 
of cattle as well as Phil’s passion to become the best A.I. technician. 
Phil, along with others from Elbert county were pioneers in the cattle 
industry as artificial insemination changed the landscape. After 12 
years, his skill landed Phil his second and final job in Elbert County 
with Rob Brown from Throckmorton, Texas. 
Phil and Jody helped Rob establish Brown Simmental Breeders which later 
became the RA Brown Ranch. Their program resulted in many award-winning 
cows and a very prominent Simmental breeding program. With Jody by his 
side, keeping records, Phil managed the place like it was his own and 
success was achieved. Phil’s conception rate as an A.I. technician was a
 solid 97% during his time on the ranch. Phil and Jody were part of what
 became known as the RA Brown Legacy. After many years of success and 
accolades with the ranch, Phil retired after 40 years. 
One thing a person might overlook was Phil’s ability on a horse. He had a
 talent for breaking colts and by the time he was finished they were cow
 horses. You had better be paying attention while riding a horse he 
trained or else you would find yourself on the ground like a few of his 
daughter’s suitors. All of the cattle work was done using horses and 
just because he carried a rope didn’t mean he always used it. Phil was 
simply a great herdsman, horseman, and the cowboy that always rode for 
the brand. 
Phil was also active in the Douglas-Elbert County Livestock Association 
and the Elbert County Fair Board for over 35 years, where he served as 
the President of the fair board for several years. While President of 
the fair board he helped to obtain the money used to build the livestock
 arena and the ag building. You would always find him supporting Jody 
with her many volunteer organizations and activities. 
He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Walt) Marble of Atwood, KS; two 
grandchildren, Echo (Jacob) Hagler of Atwood, KS and Chance (Michelle) 
Marble of Brewster, KS; adopted grandson, Ethan (Whitney) Smith, of 
Colby, KS; his brother, Marvin of Sinclair, WY; three great 
grandchildren, Emma, Ben, and Ella Hagler of Atwood, KS; as well as 
numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and a multitude of extended family 
and friends. 
Memorial Service will 10:00 a.m., Friday 21, 2020, Agate Church, Agate, 
CO. A private Inurnment will be held at later date. In lieu of flower 
memorials are suggested to help defray funeral costs in care of Baalmann
 Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Philip Dale 'Phil' Davis

Loretta (Bollig) Billinger, age 97, of WaKeeney, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care. She was born Aug. 1, 1923 to Jacob and Anna Marie (Graf) Bollig in Ogallah. 

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic school in Ellis and Ogallah grade school.

Loretta married Edwin P. Billinger on June 4, 1946 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer, and they were happily married until his passing in February 2012.

She was a member of St. Michael Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary, and the adopted grandmother of Christ the King CYO. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, baking, cooking, and playing games and cards. Loretta was a housewife and lived south of Collyer on the family farm for 50 years before moving to WaKeeney in 1996. In 2008, she moved to LTC in WaKeeney, which became her second family.

Loretta is survived by her sons Kenneth (Marilyn) Billinger of Norman, Okla., Randy Billinger of Broomfield, Colo., and Glennis (Beth) Billinger of WaKeeney; daughters Frances (Roger) Dick of St. John, and Karen (Romie) Brown of LaVista, Neb.; grandchildren Joni, Juli, Justin, Kayla, Cody, Romie Jr., Hilary, Bryce, Erik, Christopher, and Lauren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren, and sister Armella (Van) Mangels of Liberal.

Loretta was preceded in death by both parents; stepfather Mike Pfeifer; her beloved husband; granddaughter Jackie Ward; brothers Balthasar Bollig, Herbert Bollig, Charles Bollig, Julius Bollig, Rudolph Bollig, and Norbert Bollig; and sisters Euphrosina Bollig, Mary Kroeger, and an infant sister.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, at Schmitt Funeral Home, with a vigil service to follow at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Collyer, with Father Charles Steier as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

and Rama (Slater) Collins.&nbsp; Betty passed away peacefully surrounded by 
family on August 16, 2020.&nbsp;

Betty 
graduated in 1951 from Aurora High School.&nbsp; On August 4, 1951, in Aurora
 KS, Betty married the love of her life, LeRoy Maynard Gawith. Betty and
 LeRoy enjoyed dancing, jitterbugging, playing cards and watching their 
great grandchildren play sports. Betty and LeRoy made a life together in
 Delphos, Hill City, and Red Cloud, NE before&nbsp;making their 
permanent&nbsp;residence of 33 years in Minneapolis.&nbsp; Betty lived her life 
caring for others, until she retired at the age of 80, from The Good 
Samaritan Nursing Home.

Betty was preceded&nbsp;in death by her parents, Rama and Louie Collins; her sister, Lucille Hazlett; and her brother, Elmer Collins.

Betty Mae Gawith

Richard A. “Dick” Yost, age 75, of Hays, Kansas, died Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born January 17, 1945, in Russell, Kansas to Alois “Lum” and Florence (Jacobs) Yost.&nbsp; He was the father of four children when he married Joanne (Hill) on September 3, 1982, in Hays, Kansas, and they raised their seven children.

He grew up in the Gorham, Kansas, area and attended Fairport Grade School in Fairport, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a 1963 graduate of Gorham High School and attended Fort Hays State College and was on their football team. &nbsp;

Richard was employed in the oil field in Russell county and Santa Maria, California for several year. He then became a Trooper for the Kansas Highway Patrol for 12 years.&nbsp; After 19 years as a Loss Control Agent for Insurance Planning of Hays, he retired in 2010.&nbsp; He assisted his wife Joanne on international tours for&nbsp; Hays Travel for 27 years and traveled to all seven continents and many countries.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, served on St. Joseph Parish Council,&nbsp; a member of Hays Rotary Club, a board member of The Gorham State Bank, an avid golfer and Chiefs fan, and enjoyed his children and grandchildren's sporting activities.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne, of the home; two sons, Jeff&nbsp; Yost, Shawnee, KS; Greg Yost and wife, Candace, Hays, KS; four daughters, Niki Rohr and husband, Scott, Gardner, KS; Debbie Trevett, Wichita, KS; Kimberly Crough, Salina, KS; Jodi Steltz, Hays, KS; two brothers, Jack Yost and wife, Gina, Russell, KS; Chuck Yost and wife, Terri, Gorham, KS; one sister, Marcia Blundon and husband, Glen, Russell, KS; one sister-in-law Mary Herwehe, Muncie, IN; 13 grandchildren, Tucker Trevett,&nbsp; Kristonna Spearow (Jon), Konner Kramer, Meghan Moland (Andrew), Braden Dreiling (Ashley), Savannah Yost, Kassidi Yost, Shyanne Yost, Chandler Yost, Dakota Yost, Bryson Rohr, Preston Rohr, Jaden Rohr; two great grandchildren, Logan and Kendall Moland.

Richard A. 'Dick' Yost

Roger Dale Batson, 81, of Hays, KS, went home to be with Our Lord on August 13th, 2020.

Roger was born on February 5th, 1939 to
 Virgil and Sylvia (Hargis) Batson in Coffeyville, KS. As a child, he 
excelled in school and played basketball and baseball on his school’s 
varsity teams.&nbsp; After graduating from Coffeyville High School in 1957, 
he went on to serve in the US Army for three years and achieved the rank
 of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge.

Roger and his wife Margie Newton were 
married on October 14, 1961, in Parsons, KS. They went on to have two 
children, Lori and Lance. They raised their family in both Manhattan and
 Hays, KS.&nbsp;

After his military service, Roger began
 his career in the banking industry which lasted for over 40 years.&nbsp; He 
started his banking career at Union National Bank and Kansas State Bank 
in Manhattan, KS. He was President at First National Bank in Hays, KS, 
and Chillicothe State Bank in Chillicothe, MO.&nbsp; Roger was very involved 
in the communities in which he lived, being a member of many civic 
organizations, including serving as president for the Kansas Jaycees.

After retiring in 2004, Roger and 
Margie moved to Bella Vista, AR, and in 2013 they finally returned home 
to Hays, KS.&nbsp; In addition to being a dedicated and loving Father, Roger 
spent his time volunteering at church and Hays Medical Center, playing 
golf, and cheering on the Kansas State Wildcats. His pride and joy was 
his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He held an 
unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. 
He is survived by his wife, Margie; his two children, Lori Vitztum and 
husband Mike of Hays, KS, Lance Batson and wife Cindy of Fort Worth, 
TX.&nbsp; He is also survived by five grandchildren, Haylee Glassman and 
husband Matt of Fairfield, CT, Katee Vitztum of Hays, KS, Blake Batson 
of Dallas, TX, Alex Batson of Manhattan, KS, and Elizabeth Batson of 
Fort Worth, TX; two great grandchildren, Isabelle and Jude Glassman. 
Surviving relatives include sister and brother in-laws, Mike and Carolyn
 Newmaster, Ottawa, KS, Bob Hizey, Augusta, KS, Bill &amp; Carolyn 
Newton, Las Cruces, NM, and Frank &amp; Evelyn Washburn, Guide Rock, 
NE.&nbsp;

 </figure>Roger Dale Batson, 81, of Hays, KS, went home to be with Our Lord on August 13th, 2020.Roger was born on February 5th, 1939 to
 Virgil and Sylvia (Hargis) Batson in Coffeyville, KS. As a child, he 
excelled in school and played basketball and baseball on his school’s 
varsity teams.&nbsp; After graduating from Coffeyville High School in 1957, 
he went on to serve in the US Army for three years and achieved the rank
 of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge.Roger and his wife Margie Newton were 
married on October 14, 1961, in Parsons, KS. They went on to have two 
children, Lori and Lance. They raised their family in both Manhattan and
 Hays, KS.&nbsp;After his military service, Roger began
 his career in the banking industry which lasted for over 40 years.&nbsp; He 
started his banking career at Union National Bank and Kansas State Bank 
in Manhattan, KS. He was President at First National Bank in Hays, KS, 
and Chillicothe State Bank in Chillicothe, MO.&nbsp; Roger was very involved 
in the communities in which he lived, being a member of many civic 
organizations, including serving as president for the Kansas Jaycees.After retiring in 2004, Roger and 
Margie moved to Bella Vista, AR, and in 2013 they finally returned home 
to Hays, KS.&nbsp; In addition to being a dedicated and loving Father, Roger 
spent his time volunteering at church and Hays Medical Center, playing 
golf, and cheering on the Kansas State Wildcats. His pride and joy was 
his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He held an 
unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. 
He is survived by his wife, Margie; his two children, Lori Vitztum and 
husband Mike of Hays, KS, Lance Batson and wife Cindy of Fort Worth, 
TX.&nbsp; He is also survived by five grandchildren, Haylee Glassman and 
husband Matt of Fairfield, CT, Katee Vitztum of Hays, KS, Blake Batson 
of Dallas, TX, Alex Batson of Manhattan, KS, and Elizabeth Batson of 
Fort Worth, TX; two great grandchildren, Isabelle and Jude Glassman. 
Surviving relatives include sister and brother in-laws, Mike and Carolyn
 Newmaster, Ottawa, KS, Bob Hizey, Augusta, KS, Bill &amp; Carolyn 
Newton, Las Cruces, NM, and Frank &amp; Evelyn Washburn, Guide Rock,

Roger Dale Batson

Leo Frederick Frenzl, 96, died August 15, 2020, at Riverbend Assisted
 Living, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born February 11, 1924, on the 
family farm near Odin, the son of Hugo and Mathilda (Hoeffner) Frenzl.

Lee was a lifetime resident of the Odin area. He was a member of Holy
 Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2630 of 
Odin, Kansas.

On October 5, 1949, he married Delores Frances Schneider at St. Ann 
Catholic Church, Olmitz, Kansas. She passed away on August 2, 2018.

They lived and worked on their farm near Odin, where they resided for
 65 years. They had a love of attending auctions where they made many 
friends and Lee found materials for his numerous projects. He had a 
reputation for using found materials to create toys and small sculptures
 such as his well-known "sparkplug airplanes".

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Frenzl; his parents; five
 brothers, Frank, Joseph, August, Lawrence, and William Frenzl; and five
 sisters, Marie Meyeres, Teresa Wondra, Viola Meyeres, Gertrude Hickel, 
and Dorothy Reif.

Friends may call 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020,
 with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke 
Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2020, 
at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin, Kansas, with Father Don Bedore 
presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Odin. The family 
encourages those attending to wear masks and social distance.
