Caterina 'Rina' Amoruso

Caterina “Rina” Amoruso was born in Naples, Italy on January 21, 1922 to John Giovanni and Carolina Amoruso. Rina spent many hard years growing up and surviving during WWII.

Rina married Jess Clarence Miller on July 11, 1945 in Naples, Italy. Rina was an Italian war bride.

After Rina and infant son David arrived in the USA on June 17, 1946, she took up residency as a farm wife in Bazine, KS alongside her husband Jess Clarence Miller.  Rina found she loved farming and enjoyed “playing in the dirt” and helping things grow.  Rina loved all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She also loved all those who lived around her both on the farm and in town. Rina and Jess taught their children and grandchildren to be good people and hard workers.

To the marriage of Jesse and Rina Miller was born David Richard Miller (Deceased) Virginia Fay Depperschmidt, and husband Leo, Edna Kay Ayres, Linda Lou Denning, Marlene Jean Winter and husband Roland, and Julie Jane Tejeda and husband Eddie.

Rina is preceded in death by her husband on January 27, 1998; her parents John and Caroline; brothers Benidetto Amoruso, Pasquale Amoruso, and Nicolo Amoruso; and her sister Nietta Delauro. 

Rina is survived by the above mentioned; children and spouses. She was a loving Grandmother to Trina Coast, Lori Strasser, Jason Herl, Jared Herl (Megan), Jesse Denning (Jennifer), Molly Gauger (Josh), Rolland Winter, Joey Roth (Matt), Julianna Montgomery (Brian), and Megan Coleman (Jesse), Lana Kirkley (Martin).

Rina has many great grandchildren including CJ Coast, Kevin Coast, Kristina Herl, Connor Harrell, Cayden Harrell, Bailey Harrell, Saige Herl, Wyatt Herl, Maverick Herl, Morley Coleman, Hadley Coleman, Alexis Winter (Fiance Skyler Markham), Jake Montgomery, Joey Montgomery, Cameron Roth, Haley Roth, Melody Gauger. 

Rina also has much love for her great-great grandchildren Araya Coast and Everette Winter, as well as many nieces and nephews and family. 

Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hays. Pastor Rocco Mallardi will officiate. Burial will follow in the Crandall Cemetery in rural Bazine, Kansas.

Visitation will be Saturday 12:00 PM until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Red Cross or Via Christi Village, Hays.
