Monabelle Aileen “Monie” Smith, 85, La Crosse, Kansas, died Monday, September 28, 2020, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.
Monabelle was born January 29, 1935, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Farmer) Keast. She was a 29 year resident of La Crosse, Kansas, moving from Colorado. A 1953 graduate of Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson, Kansas, she was a tax accountant before her retirement.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, and an originating member of Walnut Valley Senior Center, both of Rush Center, Kansas. Monabelle volunteered for over 20 years at A Second Chance in La Crosse, Kansas.
On April 15, 1953, she married Richard Smith at the Methodist Church, Rush Center, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Survivors include: two daughters, Cheryl Nicks (Dean), Nickerson, Kansas, and Norma Smith, Hector, Arkansas; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Keast, Vallejo, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Kenneth Keast.
Because of the current challenges the world is facing at the present time, this is a private, immediate family only, funeral and interment, with no visitation.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to Walnut Valley Senior Center, Rush Center, Kansas.
