Rogene Fell, age 89 of Hays, Kansas passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021, in Hays, KS. 

She blessed this world a few days short of 90 years ago to parents Herman and Florence Bruhn of Whitewater, Kansas. She was born on March 16, 1931 at Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Whitewater High School and attended Wichita University and Business Prep School. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in Wichita. She married Ernest Fell on May 17, 1958 at the Federated Church in Whitewater. They moved to Hays in 1963 where together they owned and operated the Western Auto store until retiring in 1990. They worked and traveled together visiting 49 states in their motorhome. They were members of camping groups and traveled with family and friends. They have enjoyed the Albuquerque Balloon Festival with their daughter and family twice as well as a three-month trip to Alaska. They enjoyed spending their winters in South Texas with friends from around the country. Through her hands she had many talents. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ at home. She sang in the choir at the First United Methodist Church along with other church organizations such as the Peddlers Fair and Women's Circle. She had a knack for embroidery and made many tea towels for gifts. She could sew almost anything from a dress pattern to a scooter cover for the motorhome. She has collected napkins since the early 1950s and has some unique ones. She passed away at her home in Hays with her husband and daughter by her side. We give thanks to God that she is free from the pain and worries of this world and living fully in His presence. We anticipate the privilege to meet her again. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Fell of the home; daughter Linda Pacey, husband Steve Pacey, grandson Linden Pacey, all of McPherson.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Florence Bruhn; and stepfather, Floyd Bailey. A Celebration of Life gathering will be 2 PM - 4 PM on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine Street, Hays, KS 67601. Rae Michelle Seeber passed away Saturday morning, March 13, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas.&nbsp; 
 
She was born November 5, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, to A. Theodore and Virginia (Burk) Duell.&nbsp;

Michelle graduated from High School in Hill City, Kansas. &nbsp;She graduated
 from Kansas State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in
 Journalism. &nbsp;She began her journalism career at the Hays Daily News as a
 college student. &nbsp;Her early full-time career at the Manhattan Mercury 
was followed by a move to the Virgin Islands. &nbsp;In the Islands she was a 
news reporter for WBNB-TV, Channel 10, St. Thomas, reporting on the 
Legislature of the Virgin Islands. &nbsp;She rose to the position of Chief 
Reporter on the Island of St. Thomas. &nbsp;She covered territorial Senate 
and Governor as well as a number of executive branch agencies. &nbsp;As a 
contributor to morning and evening event newscasts she was viewed as a 
trusted reporter of Virgin Island events with a good sense for news.&nbsp;

After returning to the States, Michelle pursued her career in the St. 
Louis, Missouri area for many years. While there she reported for UPI 
until the bureau closed in St. Louis. &nbsp;She furthered her career in the 
metropolitan area as copy editor, adjunct professor, and freelance 
writer. &nbsp;Michelle’s closing career contributions were for community news
 publications in the Oklahoma panhandle and central Kansas. &nbsp;Through The
 Navigator’s Christian organization in St. Louis, Michelle met life-long
 friends. &nbsp;She pursued church and Bible study interests throughout her 
remaining life. &nbsp;She enjoyed greeting and meeting people. &nbsp;Michelle’s 
pets developed complimentary personalities with devotion and protective 
care for their master.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father; and sister, Cheryl Helget.&nbsp;

Rae Michelle is survived by her mother; sister, Ramona (William) Bock; 
brother, Alan (Susan) Duell; brother-in-law, John Helget; seven nieces 
and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles and many 
more family and friends.&nbsp;

Rae 'Michelle' (Duell) Seeber

Florence L. Daubert, born on October 16, 1926, to Johan and Teresa 
Eder of Wichita County, died at Park Lane nursing home on March 11, 
2021. Like all of her generation who had long lives, she lived through 
all of the dramatic changes that the world went through - from wall 
phones and shared party lines and needing an operator to make a call to 
cellphones, from large console radios for news and entertainment to 
flat-screen televisions and the internet, from World War II and other 
armed conflicts affecting America to the current pandemic.

She had many personal tragedies during her life. Finding her dead 
father when she was still in high school to losing her husband at the 
age of 40 to losing two of her children were just some of her trials and
 tribulations. She relied on her faith and inner strength. A lifetime 
Catholic, she used her core values to pull her through those times. She 
managed to put all of her children through college so they could have 
better lives even though she had to make many financial and personal 
sacrifices along the way. She managed to accumulate many friends through
 the garden club, her church, sewing groups, and other activities. She 
loved Scott City and SCHS even though she was raised in Wichita County. 
She was her class’s valedictorian and always looked forward to class 
reunions.

On September 3, 1946, she married Edward Loyd Daubert in Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on February 8, 1967, in Scott City, Kansas.

She is survived by her children, Darrell of Pembroke Pines, Florida, 
Dan (Elaine) of Jupiter, Florida, Kenton of Greeley, Colorado, and Lisa 
Vrbin (Dan) of Love’s Park, Illinois. She is survived by six 
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and 
nephews - most notably Jeff Eder and Sharon Friedman. She was preceded 
by her parents, husband (Edward) and children Duane and Ellen Knuth, and
 all of her siblings.

Special thanks need to be made to the “church ladies,” garden club 
members, her sewing friends, the staff at Park Lane Nursing Home, Dr. 
Elizabeth Hineman, the special people who lived with her and still 
reside in the Park Lane apartments, and their caregivers, Phyllis Ruiz, 
and Connie Wright. Also, thanks to Bertha Armendariz for her help in the
 last few months of her life.

Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2021, 
at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas with Fr.

Florence L. Daubert

Kenneth P. “Ken” Leiker, 75, Hays, died Monday, March 15, 2021, at HaysMed.

He was born October 20, 1945, in Hays, 
the son of Leo A. and Angela (Klaus) Leiker.&nbsp; On May 8, 1965, he was 
united in marriage to Darlene Agnes Lang in Victoria, and they 
celebrated 55 years of marriage.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
 Church and the St. Anthony Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 
#4166.&nbsp; Ken was an oilfield technician and for 36 years worked for 
Knighton Oil Company and then worked for Hertel Contract Pumping.&nbsp; He 
was a weather spotter, enjoyed farming and raising cattle, had a gentle 
nature with all God’s creation, and was a patient man.&nbsp; He was an 
excellent chef and liked German food and baking pies.&nbsp; Ken was a 
talented woodworker and craftsman, enjoyed working with leather, and 
would say he was a jack-of-all-trades, master of none.&nbsp; His family was 
special to him, and he loved the fun times he had with his grandchildren
 and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Darlene of 
Hays, a son: Troy Leiker of House Springs, MO, a daughter: Connie Werth 
and husband Vincent Werth, Jr. of Hays, three brothers: LaVern Leiker of
 Great Bent, Reinhold “Ronnie” Leiker and wife Diana of Hays, and Art 
Leiker and wife Marilyn of Hays, two sisters: Erma Dinges and husband 
Jim and Norine Leiker, all of Hays, three grandchildren: RaeLynn Werth, 
Cheyenna Leiker, and Chance Leiker, two great grandchildren: Emma Rose 
and Aliza Jane Leiker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Herbert and Erwin “Erv” Leiker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 
Hays, with Fr. Brian Lager officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. 
Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00

Loren Raymond Zabel, 84, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021, at Smith Center Health and Rehab, Smith Center, KS. 
 Loren was born May 26, 1936, on the family farm north of Gaylord, the 
son of Elsie (Sasse) and Otto Zabel.&nbsp; Loren attended school in Gaylord, 
KS, graduating high school in 1954.&nbsp; On August 24, 1958, he married Mary 
Jane Henning at Christ Lutheran Church, Gaylord, KS, to this union they 
were blessed with three children, Katherine, Ronald, and Greg. 
 Loren was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Athol, served on the 
church council and on the Kirwin Irrigation Board for many years.&nbsp; Loren
 enjoyed square dancing, playing softball and bowling.&nbsp; He bowled on a 
team for many years going to tournaments on the weekends.&nbsp; He loved his 
grandchildren and enjoyed taking them to the pond to go fishing whenever
 possible.&nbsp; He loved attending their school activities and ballgames.&nbsp; 
Loren farmed his whole life and absolutely loved what he did, he raised 
corn, beans, milo, and wheat.&nbsp; He also raised cattle and had his own 
feedlot north of Gaylord.&nbsp; In November of 2007, he and Mary Jane moved 
off the farm and into Smith Center.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Orvin Zabel and a son Ronald Zabel in December of 2017.&nbsp; 
 Loren is survived by his wife Mary Jane Zabel of Smith Center; a 
daughter Katherine Main of Broken Arrow, OK; a son Greg Zabel and wife 
Melanie of Manhattan; eight grandchildren, James, Loren, Sarah, Lindsey,
 Kiley, Kody, Logan, and Seth and two great grandchildren, Nadja and 
Callengan. A celebration of Loren's life will be held at

Loren Raymond Zabel

Mary Kathryn (Prideaux) Leitner died Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Wheat 
Haven Home in McDonald, Kansas, at the age of 90. She was born February 
1, 1931, the youngest of Henry &amp; Bertha (Threlkel) Prideaux, 17 
miles south of Atwood on the Wayne Kuntz farm on the Middle Sappa Creek,
 site of the famous Cheyenne Indian Battle Ground of April 23, 1875. 
Mary attended grade school &amp; high school in Atwood, where in high 
school she met the love of her life, Eugene F. Leitner. Mary and Eugene

Kathryn, Michael Eugene, Pamela Jo, Eugene Michael, Mark Andrew &amp; 
Bradley John. 
After the kids were born, she returned to school receiving her GED from 
Colby Community College in 1969. She attended a few college classes the 
following years, but her family life was where she felt she belonged. 
Mary's working years consisted of work she could do from home: Stanley 
Home Products, hair wigs, cosmetics, ceramics &amp; natural vitamins, 
just to name a few. While she never officially joined the work force her
 priority was being a homemaker, wife &amp; mom. She was a member of 
Sacred Heart Church, instrumental in CMAS &amp; was a CCD teacher to the
 Senior Classes for numerous years. 
Mary designed many beautiful homes in Atwood for her family &amp; 
friends, even her very own. She also published a cookbook My Family's 
Favorites or "Did We Eat Yet?", with over 800 recipes handed down from 
family, friends &amp; neighbors. It had family history, genealogy (a 
personal favorite past-time of hers) and is a family treasure. 
Mary &amp; Gene enjoyed trips with their friends throughout their lives 
&amp; had celebrated their 60th Anniversary in September 2008, before 
Gene's passing on September 28, 2008. 
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her father &amp; 
mother-in-law, Carl &amp; Theresia (Kogl) Leitner, an infant son, 
Michael Eugene, her brother Edwin (Lorraine) Prideaux, her sisters, 
Bernita (Russell) Porter, Leta (Walter) Rippe, brother-in-law, Daryl 
Organ, granddaughter, Lori Vyzourek and grandson, Shane Felzien. 
Mary is survived by her five children &amp; spouses, Marsha (Chuck) 
Felzien, Pam (Lee) Vyzourek, Mike (Kim), Mark (Linda) &amp; Brad 
(Mandy); sister-in-law, Shirley Organ; brother-in-law, Kenneth Leitner,

Haven Home in McDonald, Kansas, at the age of 90. She was born February 
1, 1931, the youngest of Henry &amp; Bertha (Threlkel) Prideaux, 17 
miles south of Atwood on the Wayne Kuntz farm on the Middle Sappa Creek,
 site of the famous Cheyenne Indian Battle Ground of April 23, 1875. 
Mary attended grade school &amp; high school in Atwood, where in high 
school she met the love of her life, Eugene F. Leitner. Mary and Eugene

Alice Ann Horacek, 81, Alexander, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021, at her home.

Alice was born September 12, 1939, in Saline County, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a resident of Alexander, Kansas, for about 20 years, moving from Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; Alice was a graduate from Salina High School, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a homemaker, who had many skills that helped her family and those in her community.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Alexander, Kansas.

Alice loved to sew, and paint.&nbsp; She also enjoyed baking cakes for people.&nbsp; Her family recalls how she could do just about anything she put her mind to.

She married Richard Shelton.&nbsp; He preceded her in death in 1993.&nbsp; She then married James “Jim” Horacek.&nbsp; He preceded her in death November, 2000.

Survivors include:&nbsp; one grandson, Brandon Shelton; one granddaughter, Angel Shelton, and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and one son, Ralph Shelton.

Alice Ann Horacek

Jean Lucille (Kendig) Charles, 105, of Republic, Kan., died Monday, 
March 8, 2021, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Neb. Jean was 
born January 17, 1916 in Osborne, Kan. She was the first of two children
 born to Alvin and Angie Kendig. She graduated from Osborne High School 
in 1933, and attended Fort Hays State College for two years, earning a 
teaching certificate.

She was teaching kindergarten in Osborne in 1937 when she met Norman 
Shirley, whom she married in 1938. They moved to different states 
several times in several months for his work in the oil industry. Norman
 died in a swimming accident in 1939, and Jean returned to Osborne, 
taking a job at the U.S. Farm Security Administration office there.

Jean met Don Charles as he was passing through Osborne in 1940 and he
 stopped to visit with a mutual friend. Don stayed in Osborne that night
 due to a blizzard, and he and Jean hit it off instantly. They were 
married May 14, 1941, in Manhattan, Kan., where Don had attended school 
at Kansas State University, and Jean moved with Don to Republic, and 
Valley Point Farms, which had been in Don’s family since 1868.

Don and Jean raised three children on the farm, where Jean helped 
instill a love of reading, music, cooking and K-State. They set examples
 as community leaders by, among other things, founding the Republic 
Pioneers 4-H chapter. Jean also regularly entertained friends in her 
bridge club, and they were members of the Elks, as well as the 
Belleville (Kan.) Country Club. Jean returned to teaching elementary 
school after her children were older in community schools in Hardy, 
Republic, Sherdahl, Scandia, and Webber, and former students kept in 
touch with her frequently for years after. Upon retirement, they became 
doting and loving grandparents to five grandchildren, spending time with
 them and helping the children develop a deep appreciation for the farm 
and its history. Don and Jean also spent more than 20 years wintering 
(and golfing), in Texas, then Arizona. They spent more than 60 years 
together before Don’s death in 2002.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Angie Kendig, 
her first husband, Norman Shirley, her brother, Warren Kendig, her 
husband, Donald Charles, a son, Michael Charles, a daughter, Nancy 
(Charles) Gabriel, and a grandson, Evan Charles. She is survived by her 
son, John Charles of Republic, Kan., granddaughter Christie (Petersen) 
Kairos (husband Sunny) of Portland, Ore., grandson Dane Petersen (wife 
Jill Nienhiser) of Kansas City, Mo., grandson Hayes Charles (wife Keri) 
of Coon Rapids, Iowa, granddaughter Hayley Charles of Denver, Colo., and
 four great-grandchildren. Due to COVID concerns, the family plans to 
hold a memorial service at a later date.

Memorials may be made in Jean’s name to the United Methodist Church 
of Republic and the Republic Pioneers 4-H club through Megrue-Price 
Funeral Home in Superior, Neb.

Una Rae Durheim, 82, died Friday, March 12, 2021, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, KS.

She was born on September 8, 1938, in Russell, KS to Leland R. and 
Elsie (Kelpe) Nuss. She grew up in Great Bend, KS where she graduated 
high school. She married Robert Durheim on July 28, 1957. In 1965, they 
moved to Dodge City where she worked as a secretary for Coldwell 
Banker-Hancocks and the Dodge City Country Club, but her biggest passion
 in life was homemaking.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she served 
on the Altar Guild. For as long as her church family can remember, she 
was known as “The Flower Lady”. She was also a member of the VFW 
Auxiliary and the YMCA Senior Exercise Club. In her spare time she 
enjoyed collecting recipes, antiquing, sewing, painting, and ceramics. 
She loved traveling and vacationing with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Bob; son, Steve Durheim 
and wife Janet, of Ellis, KS; daughter, Debbie Harris and husband Larry,
 of Dodge City; brother, Morris Nuss and wife Chris, of Cleveland, OH; 
her five grandchildren; Travis Elder, Jamie Durheim, Emily Hiss, Ashley 
Harris, and Jacob Harris; and one great grandchild, Oliver Hiss.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carole Dorsch.

Memorial service will be on Friday, March 19, 2021, at 10:00 am at 
Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Jahnke officiating. Burial

She was born July 8, 1928, in Ness

Lawrence F. “Red” Brown on August 27, 1953, in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
preceded her in death on September 14, 2014.

She and her sister operated the 
Klothes Kloset Dress Shop in Hays years, and was a waitress at Professor
 Pitterwurst’s Inn for 16 years.&nbsp; She grew up in Hays, was a&nbsp; graduate 
of Hays High School, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.&nbsp; She 
did a lot of boating and water skiing in her younger years, she enjoyed 
her gardening and yard work, and was the best grandma.

Survivors include two sons, 
Lawrence J. “Larry” Brown, Hays, KS; Patrick J. Brown and wife, Kim, 
Hays, KS; one brother, Francis Lang and wife, Micky, AZ; one sister,

JoAnn (Lang) Brown

Terry Jay Heinrich, 65, of Oakley, passed away on March 12, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. 
Terry was born in Oakley, Kansas, on June 11, 1955, to Clarence and 
Claudine (Davenport) Heinrich. Terry was the second of five children 
and was raised in Grinnell, Kansas. 
In 1975 Terry married Erin Garrett and to this union they were blessed 
with two children, son Bradley James, of Wilson and daughter Julie, of 
Abilene, Texas. This marriage later dissolved. On September 2nd, 1983 
Terry married Joyce Smith, of Oakley, Kansas. 
Terry worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Grinnell Co-op, BJ 
Services, Allied Cementing and Frontier Ag, until he retired in 2019. 
Terry loved spending time playing golf and riding his Harley-Davidson 
motorcycle. Most of all Terry enjoyed being with his friends and 
family. 
In November of 2019 Terry was diagnosed with lung cancer, then later diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma. 
Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents Clarence and
 Claudine and brother Michael, along with numerous aunts and uncles. 
Terry leaves behind his four-legged loyal friend, Fred; his children, 
Bradley and Julie; stepchildren, Rod Huffman &amp; P.D. Huffman, both of
 Oakley and Tracey Macy, of Salem, Oregon; grandson Bradley James and

 </figure>Terry Jay Heinrich, 65, of Oakley, passed away on March 12, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. 
Terry was born in Oakley, Kansas, on June 11, 1955, to Clarence and 
Claudine (Davenport) Heinrich. Terry was the second of five children 
and was raised in Grinnell, Kansas. 
In 1975 Terry married Erin Garrett and to this union they were blessed 
with two children, son Bradley James, of Wilson and daughter Julie, of 
Abilene, Texas. This marriage later dissolved. On September 2nd, 1983 
Terry married Joyce Smith, of Oakley, Kansas. 
Terry worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Grinnell Co-op, BJ 
Services, Allied Cementing and Frontier Ag, until he retired in 2019. 
Terry loved spending time playing golf and riding his Harley-Davidson 
motorcycle. Most of all Terry enjoyed being with his friends and 
family. 
In November of 2019 Terry was diagnosed with lung cancer, then later diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma. 
Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents Clarence and
 Claudine and brother Michael, along with numerous aunts and uncles. 
Terry leaves behind his four-legged loyal friend, Fred; his children, 
Bradley and Julie; stepchildren, Rod Huffman &amp; P.D. Huffman, both of
 Oakley and Tracey Macy, of Salem, Oregon; grandson Bradley James and 
numerous step grandchildren. He also leaves behinds his sisters, Geri

Betty Jane Schartz, 72, passed away March 12, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born December 24, 1948, in Wichita, the daughter of Cliff E. and Margaret Pauline “Polly” Simpson Bright.

A Larned resident since 1968, moving from Wichita, she was of the 
Christian faith. She was a detention officer and enjoyed sewing, playing
 piano, and spending time with her family.

On June 14, 1968, she married Gregory Lynn Schartz at Larned; he survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Alexis (David) Williams, 
Burleson, Texas; a son, Scott (Lori Perez) Schartz, Larned; two sisters,
 Joann Bright, Newton, Patricia Scheer, Lafayette, Louisiana,; a 
brother, Charles “Bud” Bright, Divide, Colorado; and a granddaughter, 
Gabbie Williams, Burleson, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Greg Schartz.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at 
Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook, with Pastor Jarred Smith presiding.

Howard and Norma Zook. She is the oldest of 7 and grew up on a dairy 
farm in Rozel, KS. She married Mason A. Brown on April 25, 1960 at 
Raton, N.M. and had 1 daughter, Adel Ostrom. They moved to Great Bend in
 1966. She worked for USD #428 Central Kitchen as a baker until she 
retired.

Sharron was an avid sewer and quilter. She belonged to several quilt 
guilds and sewing groups over the years. She was a member of Central 
Baptist Church and Eastern Star. She loved to go camping with her 
husband and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Survivors include her daughter, Adel Ostrom and husband Curtis of Mt.
 Holly, NC; a granddaughter, Brandi Johnson and husband Mike of 
Janesville, WI; a grandson, Blaine Ostrom and wife Valarie of 
Owingsville, KY; three sisters, Dolly Hagerty, Carmen Franz, and Zella 
Sanner; three brothers, Mark, Mike, and Ben; and eight 
great-grandchildren, Tamera (Richard), Mason, James, Kaytlin, and Alexis
 Johnson and Courtney, Kelsey, and Christian Ostrom. She was preceded in
 death by her husband, Mason A. Brown, and her parents, Howard and Norma
 Zook.

Delsie Lavon Bittel, 62, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2021, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

Delsie was born August 30, 1958, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Snow and Verla (Dighton) Houchin. She was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, for 12 years, moving from St. John, Kansas. She was a 1976 graduate of Great Bend High School, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kansas, before continuing her education at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, where she received her bachelor’s degree in political science.&nbsp; She was a forklift operator for Fuller Industries, Great Bend, Kansas, before her retirement.

She married Daniel J. Bittel at Great Bend, Kansas.

Survivors include: her husband, Daniel J. Bittel, La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, Adam Houchin, Liberal, Kansas, and Tyler Bittel, Independence, Missouri; one daughter, Melody Bittel, Fort Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Snow Coffield, Great Bend, Kansas, and Sherri Byerley, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jackie Miller; and two sisters, Marilyn Mumford, and Laura Sandberg.

The family will have a memorial service in the future.&nbsp;

Gerald Wayne Doerfler, 81, Codell, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at Rooks County Health Center.

He was born June 19, 1939, in Hays, 
Kansas, the son of Alex and Crescentia (Schumacher) Doerfler.&nbsp; Gerald 
was a 1958 graduate of Hays High School.&nbsp; He graduated from Fort Hays 
State University with a Master of Fine Arts Degree and taught art at 
Plainville High School for 39 years.&nbsp; One year of his teaching career 
was spent with his family on the Isle of Tiree off the coast of 
Scotland.&nbsp; On August 11, 1965, he was united in marriage to Judy Lee 
Hachmeister in Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp; They celebrated 55 years of 
marriage.&nbsp; He was a member of Codell Community Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
fixing and building things, gardening, and doing work with his hands.&nbsp; 
He loved ice cream, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Judy of 
Codell, a son: Drew Doerfler of Codell, a daughter: Dayna Crawford and 
husband Kevin of Codell, and three grandchildren: Courtney, Blake, and 
Cody.&nbsp; Other survivors include two sisters: JoAnne Reynolds of Hays and 
Judy Unrein and husband Pat of Arizona, and a sister-in-law: MaryAnn 
Doerfler of Hays.

He was preceded in death by his

Richard "Rick" L. Cooper, 67, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away 
on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Born in Concordia, KS to the late Milton L.
 Cooper and June L. Anderson Cooper, he moved here over 10 years ago 
from Hays, KS.
 	Rick was a high school art teacher before working in the 
maintenance of the athletic department at Fort Hays State University, 
from which he retired. He then started working as a plumbing sales 
associate at The Home Depot.
 	Rick loved his three Shih Tzus — Tumbalina, Rusty, and Tucker. He 
enjoyed art, woodworking, and collecting antique toys. His favorite 
thing to do was run the Saturday Kid’s Workshop at The Home Depot.
 	Rick is survived by his sister, Nancy L. Mills; his brother, Stevan
 F. Cooper; his five nieces, Katie, Susan, Shelley, Janet, and Marie; 
and his great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was 
preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee Cooper; his brother, Alan Kent 
Cooper; and his niece, Jennifer.

Patricia Jean Newell, 76, passed away at home on 
Sunday, March 7, 2021, after a battle with cancer.&nbsp; She was born March 
2, 1945, in Hays, KS, to Lillian (Coupal) and Clarence Grabbe.

She graduated from Fort Hays State University with a BS in Elementary
 Education in 1967.&nbsp; On June 17, 1967, she married LeRoy Newell at St. 
Joseph’s Church in Hays, KS.&nbsp; She taught 2nd grade for one year at 
Bazine, KS and then stayed home to raise her family.&nbsp; She was a devoted 
wife, mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, baking, making 
rosaries and playing the piano and organ.&nbsp; She was a member of the 
Catholic Daughters of Americas, Shepherds of Christ Ministries and an 
Extraordinary Minister for St. Mary’s Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Patrick 
Newell (Cindy), Tim Newell, Stephanie Heier (Roger), Jodie Newell, Kevin
 Newell (Kara), Mary Ewing (John), Sean Newell (Holly), Mark Newell 
(Jessica) and Sarah Labes (William), 25 grandchildren; her siblings 
Frances Gordon (Jim), Donna Farrell (Bob), Wayne Grabbe (Judy), Dick 
Grabbe (Cheryl) and Lorri Leibbrandt (Doug); brother-in-law, Sam Warfel 
and sister-in-law, Kathy Grabbe; and was preceded in death by her

LeRoy Joseph Rome passed away on February 27, 2021, at the age of 85 years in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.&nbsp; LeRoy was born November 14, 1935, in Victoria, Kansas, to the late Edgar M. and Clara (Windholz) Rome.&nbsp; He grew up in Hays, Kansas, learning the farm life with his Rome and Windholz relatives.&nbsp; 

He attended St. Joseph's Military Academy and graduated in 1953.&nbsp; From there he went on to serve in the United States Army as a Corporal E4.&nbsp; He served in Mannheim, Germany, where he was very proud to have been awarded “Soldier of the Month."&nbsp; When working at a summer job in Denver, Colorado he made his way west to a Golden High School football game where he met a cheerleader named Carole Williams.&nbsp; They were wed on August 30, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Church in Golden, Colorado.

In 1958, he began his lifelong career as an Electrician at the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad where he retired after 38 years.&nbsp; He was heavily involved with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) as a Union Officer and General Chairman for 30+ years.&nbsp; In addition, he served as President of the Rio Grande Credit Union.&nbsp; He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 21 in Golden, Colorado where he served in many officer positions throughout the years.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Golden VFW Post 4171.

LeRoy’s family meant everything to him.&nbsp; They would load up the camper and go fishing in the Colorado mountains when they were young.&nbsp; He was an avid reader of non-fiction books.&nbsp; He was always busy doing or organizing something and never sat still for long.&nbsp; He loved to collect items and had two of everything which made him a very giving man.&nbsp; You couldn’t leave his house without something in your hand.&nbsp; He enjoyed entertaining and his door was always open to family and friends.&nbsp; The most special thing about LeRoy is that he never met a stranger.&nbsp; He formed a relationship with everyone he met.&nbsp; Telling stories and jokes was his very best quality and all have been lucky to have heard him over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Clara, brothers Norman and Timothy Rome, and granddaughter Megan Cook.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Carole Rome of Golden, brother Hubert Rome of Mesa, Arizona and his four children Lezlee Rome (Terry), Terry Rome (Rose), Michelle Wareham (Paul) all of Golden, and Mike Rome (Sandy) of St. Petersburg, Florida.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandchildren, Molly Cook, Emily (Wareham) Valliere, Ryan Wareham, Stephanie Tyler, Sandra Prince and four great grandchildren all of Golden.

Services and celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date.

Katherine F. Roberts, age 91, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, 
at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on 
March 13, 1929, in Leoti, Kansas, the daughter of Curtis D. And Beatrice 
Page Lane.&nbsp; She was a resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1947 moving 
from Leoti, Kansas, and was a nurses aide and a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scott City, Kansas, and the Kansas Rebekahs Lodge.

On April 5, 1947, she married Wayne C. Roberts in Liberal, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on December 2, 2002, in Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors include her Two Sons - Gary Roberts of Scott City, Kansas, 
Major &amp; Kelli Roberts of Scott City, Kansas, One Brother - Ross Lane
 of Baldwin City, Kansas, One Sister - Nevada Parker of Leoti, Kansas, 
Fourteen Grandchildren, Twenty Two Great Grandchildren, and Three Great 
Great Grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, One Son - Jay Dee 
Roberts, One Daughter - Tana Phillips, One Great Grandson - Brett 
Phillips, One Great Granddaughter - Emily Northcutt, Three Sisters, and

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021,

Enos Neil Cook, age 77, of Mosca,&nbsp; Colorado, passed into the hands of his Lord March 2nd, 2021, at the Rio 
Grande Inn in La Jara, Colorado. He was born September 7th, 1943, in Graham
 County Kansas. Enos was the oldest son of W.D and Vesta Cook. He was 
active in 4H and played football in high school. He graduated from 
WaKeeney high school in WaKeeney, Kansas in 1962. Enos has made his 
living as a farmer, truck driver and a certified diesel mechanic. He 
loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, riding horses, hiking, 
woodworking, attending church. He loved God and his family. He didn't 
like Fishing.

Freeman of Chatsworth, Georgia and Dennis; (Angela) Cook of Glenmore,

Rowan Edward Camp, 81, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

Rowan was born May 5, 1939 in Natoma, Kansas.&nbsp; He was one of three 
children born to Elmer Martin and Maggie Gladys (Rubble) Camp.&nbsp; He grew 
up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of 
1957.&nbsp; He attended Emporia State University.

Rowan was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Waudby on November 26, 
1960 in Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three daughters; 
Sandra, Sheila and Stacie.&nbsp; They made their home in the Russell area.

Rowan was a Farmer and Rancher. He worked many years at Mahoney Imp. 
in Russell&nbsp; ,He was a member of St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic 
Church and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; He also was
 a member of the Russell Elks Lodge.&nbsp; Rowan enjoyed fishing, playing 
music with different bands thru out the years, riding his John Deere 
Equipment and having coffee with the Bunker Hill Gang.

Rowan’s surviving family include his wife of 60 years, Patricia of 
the home; daughters, Sheila A. Kuntzsch (Alan) of&nbsp; Bunker Hill, Kansas 
and Stacie E. Mendenhall of Emporia, Kansas; eight grandchildren and 13 
great grandchildren.

Rowan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Curtis Camp, and sister Zetta Hillman.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M on Friday, 
March 12, 2021 at the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church in 
Russell Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in

Patrick Urban Sr., age 55, formerly of Hays, of Saratoga, Wyo., passed away on December 21, 2020, at his home in Saratoga with his family by his side.

He was born on December 29, 1964, in Wichita, KS to Charles and Carol Ann (Legleiter) Urban.&nbsp; He was a 1983 graduate of West Wichita High School.&nbsp; He met and married Dorothy Steckline on August 7, 1998, in Hays, KS.

Patrick was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending his time fishing, and hunting alongside his four boys.&nbsp; Patrick was a cub scout leader and received great joy in developing and fostering young men, he also loved cheering on the Denver Broncos.

He was a Carpenter by trade and for 20+ years worked for Lloyd and Ida Lundy at the Best Western Vagabond Hotel.

Patrick is survived by his mother: Carol Ann Urban of Seldon, KS; wife: Dorothy Urban of Hays; four sons: Joseph Steckline Urban, Charles Urban, Francis Urban, and Patrick Urban, Jr., all of Hays; four brothers: Chris Urban of Hutchison, KS, Steve (Ann) Urban of Galesburg, IL, Dennis Urban of Leoville, KS, and Tim Urban of Seldon, KS; and one sister: Gwen (Darren) Schultz of Grainfield, KS.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.

Memorial Mass will be Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 703 Monroe Street, Ellis, KS 67637, with inurnment following the services in the parish cemetery.

Patrick Urban Sr.

Steven Douglas “Steve” Arnold, 81, of Herndon, KS passed away March 8, 
2021, at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin. He was born on March 19, 
1939, in Farnam, NE to Forrest and Leah (Stevens) Arnold.
 Steve’s father died when Steve was 2 and then his mother and 7 
children moved to Boulder, CO. Steve and his brother Don graduated high 
school in Cambridge, NE where they lived with their Aunt Vera and Uncle 
Lester Johnson. He was in the army for 2 years on the bubby system with 
his brother, Don. They served in Germany.
 Steve married Arian Olson on August 20, 1964, in Boulder, CO. They 
enjoyed Jeeping in the mountains, fishing with his buddies, riding his 
Indian motorcycle, and staying at the cabin they owned in the mountains.
 He was a volunteer with the Boulder Emergency Squad along with several 
of his buddies which resulted in many interesting stories. Steve worked 
as a manager at Neodata but took early retirement due to health issues.
 He and Arian moved to the Olson homestead in 1986. They were owners 
of Times Past Antiques in Oberlin, but later moved that business to the 
farm. They were members of the Herndon Covenant Church. Steve was a 
long-term kidney transplant recipient which was received from his nephew
 Pat Craig in 2001. He enjoyed working with antiques, and especially 
restoring old furniture, rebuilding horse-pulled wagons and other 
antiques.
 Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed (Wanda) 
Arnold, Wayne (Delma Jean) Arnold, Don Arnold and sisters, Carole (Curt)
 Craig, Geraldine (Doug) Morris, and Joy (Don) Hill.

He is survived by

 </figure>Steven Douglas “Steve” Arnold, 81, of Herndon, KS passed away March 8, 
2021, at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin. He was born on March 19, 
1939, in Farnam, NE to Forrest and Leah (Stevens) Arnold.
 Steve’s father died when Steve was 2 and then his mother and 7 
children moved to Boulder, CO. Steve and his brother Don graduated high 
school in Cambridge, NE where they lived with their Aunt Vera and Uncle 
Lester Johnson. He was in the army for 2 years on the bubby system with 
his brother, Don. They served in Germany.
 Steve married Arian Olson on August 20, 1964, in Boulder, CO. They 
enjoyed Jeeping in the mountains, fishing with his buddies, riding his 
Indian motorcycle, and staying at the cabin they owned in the mountains.
 He was a volunteer with the Boulder Emergency Squad along with several 
of his buddies which resulted in many interesting stories. Steve worked 
as a manager at Neodata but took early retirement due to health issues.
 He and Arian moved to the Olson homestead in 1986. They were owners 
of Times Past Antiques in Oberlin, but later moved that business to the 
farm. They were members of the Herndon Covenant Church. Steve was a 
long-term kidney transplant recipient which was received from his nephew
 Pat Craig in 2001. He enjoyed working with antiques, and especially 
restoring old furniture, rebuilding horse-pulled wagons and other 
antiques.
 Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed (Wanda) 
Arnold, Wayne (Delma Jean) Arnold, Don Arnold and sisters, Carole (Curt)
 Craig, Geraldine (Doug) Morris, and Joy (Don) Hill. He is survived by 
his wife, Arian of the home; sister-in-law, Nione (Mike) Rhodin, 
brother-in-law, Galen Olson; 18 nieces and nephews; numerous
