
Phyllis Eileen (Winkel) Wells, a long-time resident of Hill City,
Kansas, and a resident for the past few years in Salina, passed away
June 2, 2021. Phyllis was born May 2, 1923, on a farm south of Cawker
City to George and Opal (Rickman) Winkel. February 27, 1943, she married
Donald R. Wells in Hill City. They had one child, Di (Diane).
Phyllis worked for over 30 years as a Nurse’s Aide at the Graham
County Hospital. In her leisure time, she had many interests. Phyllis
loved growing flowers; her yard was always beautiful. She was an avid
photographer and painter. Many of her photos and paintings won prizes
at the Graham County Fair. Don and Phyllis loved square and round
dancing and spent every moment that they could doing just that.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Don; four sisters and
one brother. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Di
(Diane) and husband Gary Gibson of Salina; grandson Terry (Petia)
Gibson, of Overland Park, Kansas; Granddaughter Belinda (Randy) Ward of
Alamogordo, New Mexico; three great grandchildren and four great-great
grandchildren
