Marshall Young Woodbury, age 87, passed away on Friday, March 5, 
2021, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born 
on March 19, 1933, in Leoti, Kansas, the son of George and Cleo 
Blackburn Woodbury.&nbsp; He was a resident of Wichita County, Kansas most of
 his life. He farmed in Wichita County starting in the 1950’s. Then in 
the 1980’s, Marshall started spending a lot of time in Scottsdale, AZ 
where he bought and managed several commercial properties. He also 
developed property in Garden City Ks for many years. He resided in 
Salina Ks since 2007. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Marshall was a person who did not believe in retirement.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
his business endeavors and continued to manage them until the day of his
 death. &nbsp; Throughout his lifetime he had the gift of a humble demeanor 
and truly cared for people.&nbsp; He enjoyed engaging with people in a 
meaningful way and was driven to help people in all his endeavors, which
 led him to many friends in Wichita County, Garden City, Kansas, and 
Scottsdale, Arizona.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas, and a
 proud member of the NRA. He served on the Leoti School Board, in the 
United Methodist Church, and in other ways in the community.&nbsp; He was a 
skilled carpenter and taught classes in carpentry for 4H.&nbsp; He continued 
carpentry throughout his life and enjoyed making wonderful items for his
 children and grandchildren.

Marshall graduated from Wichita Co High School in 1951 and began 
helping his father farm as well as working in Leoti at several Jobs.&nbsp; On
 February 17, 1952, he married Janene Clark in Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp;They built
 the farm of their dreams from the ground up. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include his Wife - Janene Woodbury of Salina, Kansas; Two 
Daughters - JaLue &amp; Todd Smith of Salina, Kansas, Lisa Cooley of 
Clarkston, Michigan; Two Brothers - Ted Woodbury of Oklahoma and Terry 
Woodbury of Kansas City, Missouri; Sister Phyllis Woodbury Bryant of 
Denver; Six grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021, at
 the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with Rev. Tod Anthony 
presiding.&nbsp;&nbsp;Services will be streamed live on Facebook at Price and Sons
 Funeral Home page&nbsp;(www.facebook.com/priceandsons) starting at 1:55 PM.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.

Interment will be in the Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.

Judi Kaye Jones, 77, of Grainfield, Kansas passed away Saturday, March 
6, 2021, at her daughter Jamie’s home in rural Sheridan County.  Judi was
 born July 31, 1943, in Colby, Kansas to Vernon and Fern (Andrews) Jones.

&nbsp;Her family moved to several locations in Northwest Kansas. Judi 
attended high school in Jennings, Kansas and later received her GED. 
After high school, she married Jim Jones, and they lived in Jennings, 
Kansas. Judi and Jim were blessed with three daughters. They later 
divorced. Judi moved to Oberlin, Kansas where she met and married Bill 
Rogers. Judi and Bill resided in rural Selden and had one son born from
 this union, Yancey. They later divorced. Judi moved to Norton where 
she lived and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, waitress and 
finally as a caretaker for her parents until their death. After the 
death of her parents and as her health failed, she moved to rural 
Sheridan County to live with her daughter. 
 Judi enjoyed being and working outside. She always had a large 
garden that helped feed her family. She loved all animals, and they 
loved her. Rarely would you find her without a dog by her side. Judi
 really loved her family and got great joy being with them and taught 
her children the value and strength of family. She recalled Sundays 
when she was growing up how her family would get together with Aunts, 
Uncles, and Cousins to visit and have a meal. Judi was a loving person.
 Judi leaves to mourn her passing, three daughters, Jamie Chapman
 and husband David of Hoxie, Kansas, Kathy Curfman of Humboldt, 
Nebraska, and Veronica Tomasello and husband Fredrick of Newton, Kansas;
 and one son, Yancey Rogers of Kearney, Nebraska; sister, Mary Kathryn 
Campbell and husband Kenneth of Deering, Kansas; brother, George Jones; 
15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 
great-great-grandchildren.
 She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Fern Jones; 
brother, Elton Jones; grandson, Boomer Curfman; and sisters-in-law, 
Beulah Jones and Mary Etta Jones.
 A Celebration of Life Service is planned for Saturday, March 13,

Fern Maria Dolezal, 87, passed away March 8, 2021, in Great Bend.&nbsp; 
She was born May 16, 1933, in rural Walker, to Herman Morris and Bessie 
Maria (Barrett) Klotz.&nbsp; Fern married Donald Dean Dolezal October 28, 
1951, in La Crosse.&nbsp;

Growing up in rural Walker and attending school in Gorham, Fern moved
 to Great Bend in 1952.&nbsp; She was a bookkeeper and office manager for 
Feist’s Soft Water, retiring in 2005, previously working for Evansco, 
Hansen Jewelers, Great Bend Tribune, Fuller Brush and Bayless Dry 
Cleaners. &nbsp;She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, CKMC Auxiliary, 
V.F.W. Post 3111 Auxiliary, Lake Barton Golf Club and Women’s 
International Bowling Congress.&nbsp; Fern enjoyed gardening, bowling, 
golfing, and crocheting. Fern especially enjoyed watching her 
grandchildren's activities and spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband, Donald Dolezal, Sr. of the home; two 
sons, Donald Dolezal, Jr. of Great Bend and Ray Dolezal of Hoisington; 
three daughters, Ida Woydziak and husband David of Hoisington, Donna 
Manwarren and husband Tom of Greenwood, Mo., and Jean Jones and husband 
Michael of Hoisington; three brothers, Marvin Klotz and Morris Klotz of 
Nevada, Mo., and Albert Klotz of Bella Vista, Ark.; three sisters, 
Shirley Vincent, Anna Lee Bloesser and Marjorie Johnson, all of Nevada, 
Mo.; twelve grandchildren, Aaron Dolezal, Brian Dolezal and wife Andrea,
 Michelle Jenkins and husband Chad, Matthew Dolezal, Nathan Woydziak and
 wife Melissa, Shawn Woydziak and wife Brittany, Crystal Schroeder and

Fern Maria Dolezal

Rev. Father Dermot Francis Tighe, 89, passed away on St. Patrick’s 
Day, March 17, 2020, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born 
August 4, 1930, to James Tighe and Sarah (McDermott) Tighe in 
Strokestown, Ireland, county of Roscommon. He was the youngest of ten.&nbsp;

Dermot attended elementary school at St. Mary’s Strokestown and 
Cloonfree. At age 11 he won an academic scholarship to attend the 
Diocesan high school at Summerhill College in Sligo, Ireland. Following 
high school, he attended the seminary at St Patrick’s College in Carlow,
 Ireland. He was very involved in athletics during his school years 
particularly the Irish game of hurling.

Dermot heard his calling to the priesthood, and at the age 24, took 
his vows and was ordained on June 6, 1954, at the Cathedral of the 
Assumption, Carlow, Ireland, by the Most Rev. Thomas Keogh, bishop of 
the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. Father Tighe was recruited to 
Kansas by Monsignor John Cody, who was originally from Kilkenny, 
Ireland, and had great success recruiting Irish priests to Kansas. In 
Kansas, Father Tighe was assigned to parishes throughout the Dodge City 
Archdiocese. He served as an assistant pastor at&nbsp;St. Joseph’s, 
Liebenthal (1954-57), and Sacred Heart Cathedral,&nbsp;Dodge City&nbsp;(1957-59). 
His early pastorates were St. Lawrence, Jetmore, with&nbsp;St.&nbsp;Anthony, 
Hanston (1959-61), and St. Francis Xavier, Seward, (1961-65). He served 
as chaplain at&nbsp;Central&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;Medical&nbsp;Center&nbsp;in&nbsp;Great Bend&nbsp;from 1965 to 
1967.

Father Tighe became a United States citizen in 1959, the first week 
he was eligible. In 1967, as Vietnam war escalated, he volunteered to 
serve in the Army, serving as an army chaplain from 1967 to 1976, 
including a year in Vietnam. His first assignment was Fort Hood, Texas, 
and on August 22, 1968, he left for Southeast Asia. There he served on 
the front line and ministered to the infantrymen and gave last rites to 
dying soldiers in the field. Following Vietnam, Father Tighe decided to 
stay in the Army, and was stationed in Ft. McCelland, Alabama, Ft. 
Richardson, Alaska, and Ft. Eustis, Virginia.&nbsp; He also served with the 
National Guard in Washington DC, Dodge City and Hutchinson. He retired 
as a Bird Colonel, which is one rank below a Brigadier General, in 1990.

During his service to the Diocese, Father Tighe held a number of 
diocesan posts including Director of Religious Vocations, Director of 
Hospitals, and a member of the Seminary Board and Priest’s Trust Fund 
Board. Father Tighe also worked in the Tribunal office where he served 
as Judicial Vicar. His later pastorates included St. Andrew, Wright 
(1977-84); St. Stanislaus, Ingalls (1985-91), and St. Patrick,&nbsp;Great 
Bend&nbsp;(1991-97). He was senior priest in residence at St. Patrick, Great 
Bend, until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1998.

Following his retirement, Father Tighe remained where he considered 
home, Great Bend, and was warmly embraced by the faith community. He had
 a prominent presence at St. Patrick Catholic Church and Lake Barton 
Golf course, where he played regularly. Most recently he lived at the 
Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, north of Wichita, where he made many 
new friends. &nbsp;

He has 33 living nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his 
parents, James and Sarah, and siblings, James, Bridie, Mary, Tom, Annie,
 Alice, Brendan, John and Michael.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Throughout his life, Father Tighe showed an unwavering devotion to 
the causes of the poor and the unborn. He donated his home in Great Bend
 to Birthright and was charitable to many other causes that were 
faithful to the book of Matthew that the last shall be first.

A Memorial Mass will be held 5:30 p.m. March 17, 2021, at St. Patrick
 Catholic Church, Great Bend.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the 
Birthright, Holy Family School Endowment Fund or Prince of Peace Parish,

Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, north of Wichita, where he made many 
new friends. &nbsp;He has 33 living nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his 
parents, James and Sarah, and siblings, James, Bridie, Mary, Tom, Annie,
 Alice, Brendan, John and Michael.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his life, Father Tighe showed an unwavering devotion to 
the causes of the poor and the unborn. He donated his home in Great Bend
 to Birthright and was charitable to many other causes that were

Joyce Adele Unruh, “Grams/ Grandma,” was a loving wife, mother, 
grandmother, aunt and friend. Joyce lost her courageous fight with 
cancer and “ran” through the gateway to heaven on February 22, 2021, at 
the age of 74. Joyce was passionate about running. We have no doubt she
 ran, not walked, to heaven. 
 Joyce was born on May 13, 1946. She was raised in Garden City and 
attended school there until the age of 17. Joyce married Denton Clyde 
Unruh on September 8, 1963, moved to Copeland, and had a beautiful 
daughter, Bobbi Adele Ferguson. Joyce continued to pursue her academic 
dreams while being a full-time mother and eventually received her 
Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Fort Hays State University. 
 She eventually ended up in Scott City, Kansas, and had another 
child, Denton Allen Unruh. She worked several part-time jobs and 
volunteered at many church and community events while continuing to be a
 full-time mother and wife. 
 Weekends and vacations were full of adventure with Joyce. She was 
very active in clubs, school organizations, and church. Block parties 
and ski trips were commonplace with Joyce. Later, after receiving her 
teaching degree, Joyce spent many hours in the school as a substitute 
teacher and volunteer. 
 Joyce was most passionate about spending time with her family and 
running. There were times the household was woken up by the sound of 
pounding footsteps going up and down the stairs. She had to get that jog
 in. Joyce ran countless 5K and 10K races. She also ran a marathon and 
finished the half marathon accent up Pikes Peak. In addition to her 
active lifestyle, Joyce helped raise her grandkids, nieces and nephews. 
 Joyce was an active member at the YMCA in Garden City and also at the 
Methodist Church in Garden City. 
 Joyce was loved and will be missed. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. 
 Joyce is survived by her husband Denton, daughter Bobbi Ferguson of

Joyce Adele Unruh

Richard “Doc” Allen Mather was born January 9, 1945, in Canyon City, 
Colorado, the son of Charles and Mary (Thomas) Mather. He passed away 
March 6, 2021, in Colby, KS at the age of 76. 
Doc grew up on a farm South of Goodland, KS and attended school there 
until the 11th grade. Doc enjoyed participating in rodeos at a young age
 and eventually had to give up that life when his body could no longer 
take it. He lived on and off with his cousin, Lee and Illa Parker, who 
were very special to him. Doc worked on the T-Bar Ranch South of 
Goodland. He loved the ranch and that way of life. 
Doc married the late Rochelle Ann “Carman” Mather on March 30, 1991, at 
the Colby United Methodist Church. They moved their family to a ranch 15
 miles Southeast of Goodland. Doc continued to do the work he loved at 
T-Bar Ranch until an injury prevented him. They then bought a house in 
Clayton, KS and Doc kept himself busy by working for Brooks 
Manufacturing, in Clayton. After Rochelle’s passing, Doc moved to 
Fairview Estates, in Colby, KS. There he made several friends, including
 Janette Rust, who he became very close with over the last several 
years. 
Doc was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He 
enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as attending N.A. and A.A. campouts.
 He was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Clayton, Alcoholics 
Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, for the last 30 years. 
Survivors include children, Traci (Matt) Wheeler, of Dayton, OH and 
Matthew Heinrich, of Oberlin, KS; grandchildren, Emilee, Hunter, 
Cameron, Mackenzie and Haley; numerous cousins and a host of friends. 
In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his wife

Twila (Howat) Ninemire of WaKeeney, KS. She’s survived by three

Rebecca) Ninemire of Madill, OK, and David of Philadelphia, PA. In 
addition, she leaves three nieces and a nephew: Kristy Hoffman, Kaitlyn

Marjean’s passing are the beloved friends in the Chicago area who 
through the decades had become her “second family” in what might 
otherwise have remained a cold and inhospitable place. Marjean, born 
on December 10, 1947, grew up on a Graham County farm, attended the 
Prairie Home School, and was a member of the Prairie Home United 
Methodist Church. She later attended Hill City Rural High School of 
which she’s a 1965 graduate. She was active in many extracurricular 
activities especially relating to instrumental and choral music. By the 
time she was an adult she could have boasted mastery of several 
instruments. She subsequently attended Clark’s School of Business in 
Topeka, KS where she studied stenography and other aspects of judicial 
court reporting. Soon after graduation she began working in the Chicago 
area, and later began working in Chicago proper with the State of 
Illinois in various circuit courts in Cook County. She served there for 
over four decades and as her friends, family, and colleagues can attest 
she put in long hours, both in the courtroom recording proceedings 
verbatim, and in producing manuscripts of them for the public record. Marjean,
 probably due to the demands of work and the necessity of having a 
private life, did not belong to many organizations or hold what many 
would consider prominent positions in the community. To her friends and 
family, though, who had the benefit of knowing her to be charismatic,

Marjean Ninemire

Leon E. Steffen passed away March 8, 2021, at Country Place Senior Living of Larned.

He was born November 27, 1930, in Larned, the son of Elmer R. and 
Gladys M. Shockey Steffen and he grew up north of Burdett on the family 
farmstead.

A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer-stockman and loved his 
Hereford Cattle which he raised all his life. He was a charter member of
 the Burdett Blue Ribbons 4-H Club; member of the Pawnee County 4-H 
Foundation, serving on the board of directors for several years; he was a
 project leader and community leader for the Burdett Blue Ribbons 4-H 
Club for over 30 years; served on the Pawnee County Extension Council, 
Farmer’s Cooperative of Burdett Board of Directors for several years; a 
member of the Burdett American Legion Post #280, where he served as 
treasurer; and served as treasurer of Shiley Township for several years.
 He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Anchorage, 
Alaska.

On April 10, 1955, he married Beverly J. Waggoner in Hutchinson; she preceded him in death December 12, 2017

Survivors include: a daughter, Marsha (Kevin) Reece, Larned; five 
grandchildren, Tyson (Chelsea) Steffen, Teresa (Brooks) Burnett, Jeffrey
 (Emily) Reece, Phillip (Allison) Reece, Michael (Jessica) Reece; and 
five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Beverly, and a son, Michael Steffen.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Burdett
 United Methodist Church with Pastor Linda Doyle presiding. Service will

Bonita M. (Linenberger) Schulte, age 77, of Salina, Kansas, died Monday, March 8, 2021, at her home.

She was born October 7, 1943, in Hays, Kansas to Bonavent and Gertrude (Beck)-Brungardt Linenberger.&nbsp; She married Gary M. Schulte on September 5, 1966, at Victoria, Kansas.

She operated a beauty shop in Victoria from 1962 till 1966 and moved to Hays in&nbsp; 1967.&nbsp; She was a 1961 graduate of&nbsp; Victoria High School, a homemaker, a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp; She and Gary moved to Salina in&nbsp; 2004, and was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Salina.&nbsp; She helped start the TMP Booster Club, enjoyed playing card games, spending time with family, and being there for her grandchildren’s sporting activities.

Survivors include her husband, Gary M. Donald Dean Seachris, 64, passed away March 7, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born May 30, 1956, in Kinsley, the son of Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt and Florine Maxine Rhodes Seachris.

A lifetime area resident, he was a welder at Doerr Metal Products and 
was later an elevator operator. He was of the Pentecostal faith and 
enjoyed painting, drawing, model airplanes, fishing, and lime stone 
carving.

Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia (Shad) Anderson, Medicine 
Lodge; a sister, Betty Moore, Larned; a brother, Danny Seachris, Larned;
 three grandsons, Brandon, Andrew, and Devin Turner, Medicine Lodge; and
 two nephews, Mark Moore and John Moore, both of Larned.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Malea Seachris; a
 son, Christopher Seachris; and a brother, Bobby Lee Seachris.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 
Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Bob Sallee presiding. Service

Clifford V. Campbell, age 99, of Beloit, Kansas, died Monday March 8, 2021 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.&nbsp; Cliff was born on the family farm southwest of Beloit, to T.A. (Pete) and Eliza (Studer) Campbell, on August 20, 1921. He is a Beloit High School graduate.&nbsp; Cliff served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he served as a radar and radio instructor, stationed at Boca Raton, Florida. Cliff received a medal as an expert marksman while there.

Cliff and Irma Faye Huffman were married October 8, 1943, in Beloit.&nbsp; After World War II, they moved to the family farm southwest of Beloit, where they lived for nearly 70 years. Cliff loved farming, and still helped with wheat harvest when he was 93 years old. Cliff and Faye celebrated 72 years of marriage October 8, 2015. Cliff and Faye enjoyed traveling, including taking the family to the World’s Fair in New York in 1964.

Cliff was a member of Pleasant View Methodist Church, the Masons for 50 years, and a member of the American Legion. Cliff was very interested in politics and served as a Kansas State Representative in Topeka, for 14 years. He and Faye enjoyed many functions and made many friends during his term in Topeka. He also served on the boards of many organizations in the community, including Salt Creek Watershed Board for 50 years. Cliff loved history, was quite the story teller, and enjoyed being involved with Mitchell County Historical Society. Cliff enjoyed hunting with family and friends, hosting large groups for pheasant hunting, especially.

&nbsp;Cliff was preceded in death by his wife Faye, and his parents.

Cliff is survived by children Jim (Elaine) Campbell, Jeannine (Ed) Mondero, and Terry (Charlotte) Campbell, Beloit, grandchildren Maria (Robin) Goter, Frederick, CO, Chris (Cierra) Mondero, Ashley Campbell, Christy (Josh) Miller, all of Beloit, Nick (Katrina) Mondero, Hays, KS, Kendra (Jim) Zimmer, Wichita, Trever (Jessica) Heidrick, Beloit, 14 great grandchildren, and his sister Geneva Pearson, Beloit.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday, March 11 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church and will be live-streamed through the Church's Facebook page. Leo J “Jay” Russell passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at his home 
in Natoma, KS, at the age of 85. He was born on December 24, 1935, to 
James and Ruth (Selbe) Russell in Ellis, KS. He was united to Vesta 
(Hrabe) Shannon on November 10, 1968. The couple was blessed with a son,
 Chris.
 Leo grew up in Rooks County and graduated from Plainville High 
School in 1953. Following High School Jay served in the United States 
Air Force/SAC flying the DEW (Defense Early Warning) line where he was 
exposed to nuclear energy flying with atomic bombs. This resulted in 
acute Myeloid Leukemia that caused his death. After his honorable 
discharge he attended Fort Hays State University and then went on to 
teach at Plainville Public Schools until his retirement. He loved 
teaching, flying, gardening, music, and of course his family.
 Left to cherish his memories is his wife Vesta Russell of the home; 
son, Chris (Jennifer) Russell of Cheyenne, WY; and brothers, Jesse 
(Mary) Russell, Dennis (Judy) Russell, Robert (Linda) Russell, Wayne 
(Jean) Russell, Don (Linda) Russell, Charles (Delene) Russell, and Kevin
 (Theresa) Russell.
 He is preceded in death by his parents James and Ruth Russell; 
brothers, James, Jerry, Joseph, and Leslie Russell; and two sisters,

Vincent Lee Bruno, 68, passed away March 6, 2021, at Wesley Medical 
Center, Wichita. He was born June 2, 1952, at Ellinwood, to JB “Chief” 
&amp; Mary Jane (Anthony) Bruno. He was united in marriage to Karen 
Herrman August 4, 1972 at Great Bend and they later divorced.

A lifetime Barton county resident, Vincent worked in the oil field 
for most of his life. Most recently he lived in Florida for 3 years, 
returning back to Great Bend 3 weeks ago. He was a member of Prince of 
Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 
Council #862 and the Sac and Fox Tribe. He was a past president of the 
Great Bend Kids Wrestling Club. Vincent was an avid baseball card 
collector and especially loved watching his grandkids and nieces and 
nephews sporting events.

Survivors include, his son, Johnnie Bruno and wife Joy of Fernandina 
Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Nikki Bruno of West Liberty, Iowa; two sisters,
 Terri Klein and husband Mike and Sharon Oszman and husband Steve, all 
of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Taylor, Kolton, Johnny, Hudson and 
Hadley; a great grandchild, Arrow; and numerous step grandchildren. He 
was preceded in death by his parents; and a niece, Heather Vanaman.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of 
Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021, 
at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Don Bedore presiding. 
Interment will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. In

Thomas Lee Sponsel, 82, of Edson, died Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Hays 
Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1938, in Emporia, KS, to 
Christopher and Myrtle (Gould) Sponsel. 

Tom graduated in 1956, from St. 
Mary’s High School in Bismarck, ND. He served in the Kansas National 
Guard from 1960-1968 and was a lifetime member of the Colby American 
Legion. On February 10, 1967, he married Mary Jane Stegeman, in Colby, 
KS. They raised their family and farmed near Edson, KS. Tom was a member
 of Sacred Heart Church in Colby and was a 4th Degree member of the 
Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Farm Bureau Board. In his 
free time, Tom enjoyed traveling. 
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 4 sisters and son-in-law, Henry Elling. 
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; children, Natalie Konstadinitis, 
Todd (Wanda) Sponsel, Teresa Jorns, Bradley (Lisa) Sponsel, Sonia 
(Darin) Snyder and Amber (Paul) Sponsel; 17 grandchildren and 13-great 
grandchildren.

Eugenia I. Kennedy, 95, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021. Eugenia was a longtime resident of Bear Creek Senior Living in Colorado Springs.

Eugenia was born to Dr. Francis and Edith Kennedy on June 8, 1925, in Norton, Kansas. She was born third of four Kennedy children: brothers Francis and Joseph, and younger sister, Rosalie. She attended both grade school and high school in Norton, graduating from Norton Community High School in 1943.  She was delighted to have participated in the Norton High school 50th reunion in 1993 to reconnect with many of her classmates.

Eugenia earned a baccalaureate degree in business from the University of Colorado. She enjoyed playing the clarinet as a member of the university marching band. After graduation she remained in Denver and worked as a civil servant for the United States Air Force practicing accounting for over 35 years. 

Eventually her sister Rosalie moved to Colorado to be close to Eugenia. Eugenia liked nothing better than socializing with family and friends and attending church events in the community. She always enjoyed good company, a great steak and a highball, followed by a fudge sundae. Her nieces and nephews will remember her as the sweet aunt that always sent a five-pound box of Michelle’s chocolates every Christmas, thus perpetuating the Kennedy sweet-tooth. Eugenia was an avid football fan of the Denver Broncos and was known to get quite verbal during games. She was a strong, independent woman, decades ahead of society and a future time when women would achieve equality. She never sugar-coated anything, spoke her mind freely, and we all appreciated (and expected) that quality in her.

Surviving Eugenia is nephew, Joseph Kennedy and his wife JoLee of Phoenix; nephews John and Jim Kennedy of St. Louis; niece Kathy Kennedy Britton and her husband Randy of Union, Missouri; five great nieces and nephews, and nine great-great nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home in Norton, Kansas, on Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 11 a.m. to noon, followed immediately by a graveside mass at Norton Cemetery. Judy Kaye Schindler, 73, passed away March 6, 2021, at her home in 
Great Bend. She was born November 18, 1947, at St. Elmo City, Ill., to 
Emerson &amp; Mildred (Koberlein) Campbell.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Judy was a waitress and she had 
previously worked for Esfeld Engineering for 17 years. She enjoyed 
dancing and Wheel of Fortune. She especially loved spending time with 
her family and lived for them.

Survivors include, her significant other, Henry Schindler of 43 
years; two sons, Darrell Pedigo and wife Toni of Spearville and Kenny 
Pedigo of Maize; a daughter, Tammy Pedigo and fiancé John Stevenson of 
Great Bend; two stepsons; three step daughters; ten grandchildren, 
Dillon, Paige, Jaedon, Kaley, Taegen, Jathan, Lejend, Milana, Kayelan, 
and Justen; and two great grandchildren, Renly and Aryiah. She was 
preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gary Campbell and Paul 
Campbell; and a sister, Janice Nestlerode.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Bryant 
Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Inurnment will be

Judy Kaye Schindler

Lifetime Sherman County, Kansas, resident Ellen Eileen (Hurd) Townsend, 94, died Sunday, March 7, 2021, at Topside Manor in Goodland.

She was born October 19, 1926, in Goodland, the eldest daughter of 
Glen F. and Ada Eileen (Mulkey) Hurd.&nbsp; She attended school in Goodland 
and graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1944. She went on to 
attend business school in Denver, Colorado.

Eileen returned to Goodland and married Ray Townsend on May 17, 1946,&nbsp; in Garden City, Kansas. In 1949, the couple constructed a home southwest 
of Goodland that remains as the farm headquarters today. Ray and Eileen 
farmed, ranched, and built and operated a 50 head dairy for many years. 
&nbsp;Ray preceded her in death in 2004.

Eileen worked at Goodland State Bank before she married Ray. Years 
later she went to work for the Great Western Sugar Company as an 
assistant chemist then took the position of Office Manager and 
accountant for J&amp;J Feeders (John Cogswell and Joe Gutsch). Eileen 
remained as the feedlot transitioned over the years to Fairleigh Feeders
 and eventually Century Feeders. After retiring, Eileen maintained an 
office in Goodland and provided accounting and bookkeeping services for 
the Cogswell family until the ranch was sold and the estate was settled.

Through the years, Eileen’s math, business, and accounting skills 
combined with Ray’s crop and livestock abilities made for a successful 
team!

While raising her family, Eileen was active in the Methodist Church, 
served as a 4-H leader, helped organize a garden club, and served as a 
president of the parent teacher organization at the elementary school. 
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses, 
and vegetables which she loved to share.

After retirement, Eileen served as a board member of the Goodland 
Arts Council and the Sherman County Historical Society, and was also 
active in the Sherman County Alumni Association.

Surviving family includes a son, Alan Townsend and wife, Lynda of 
Goodland, a daughter Amy and husband, Craig Good of Olsburg, Kansas. 
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Christa (Townsend) and husband, Doug
 Smith of Severn, Maryland, Andra (Townsend) and husband, Michael 
Nielsen of Wichita, Ross Townsend and wife, Ashley of Goodland, Laura 
Good and husband, Isidro Linan Jimenez, Ames, Iowa, and Grant Good, 
Moundridge, Kansas. There are 5 surviving great-granddaughters. Eileen 
is also survived by 3 sisters, Wanda Fitterer, Donna Dee Thompson, and 
Betty Hurd all of Oregon.

&nbsp;In addition to her husband, preceding her in death were her parents and 2 brothers, Don and Darrell Hurd.

Eileen experienced many things in her 94 years and loved her family and her community!

Ellen Eileen (Hurd) Townsend

On the evening of February 20, 2021, Tad "TJ" Trefethen was taken from 
us too early at the age of 31. 

Tad was born June 30,1989, in Wheat Ridge,
 CO and grew up in Trinidad, CO. 

He is survived by his son, Xavier; his 
mother and step-father, Dale and Shelli Linenberger of Hays, KS; his 
father, Garry Trefethen of Columbus, KS; 2 sisters, Tiffany Hawthorne 
and Jeri-Jo Linenberger both of Hays, KS; 2 nieces, Cathrine and
 Jaden Hawthorne; his step-brother, Alex Linenberger, along with 
numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

He was preceded in death by
 his nephew, David Linenberger.

Nicholas Bryce Palen, age 27, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021, 
at his home in Marienthal, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on March 21, 1993, in 
Denver, Colorado, the son of Nicholas Todd and Toni Sue Burgess Palen.&nbsp; 
He was a resident of Marienthal, Kansas since 2010 moving from Elbert, 
Colorado, and was an electrician for Western Kansas Electric in 
Marienthal, Kansas.

Survivors include his Parents - Todd &amp; Toni Palen of Marienthal, 
Kansas, One Sister - Kalli &amp; Jakob Stegman of Garden City, Kansas, 
Three Nieces - Brantlee Stegman, Kora Stegman, and Maevyn Stegman of 
Garden City, Kansas, numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by Grandparents - Glenda Burgess, June

Riley William Leidig was born in Norton, Kansas on December 9, 1943 
to Clifford W. and Hazel I. (AraSmith) Leidig.&nbsp; Riley was over a year 
old before his Dad first saw him, due to World War II.&nbsp; Riley and his 
mother lived with Clifford’s parents while his Dad was overseas.&nbsp; 
Grandma Leidig had made pies &amp; set them on the table to cool when 
Riley decided to climb up on the table.&nbsp; He knocked off a pie &amp; 
proceeded to fall on top of it, hitting the bridge of his nose.&nbsp; 
Clifford always laughed about this &amp; said “The first time I ever saw
 Riley he had two black eyes!”

Riley started grade school at the Lenora Grade School.&nbsp; The family 
moved several years later to Norton, Kansas.&nbsp; He graduated from Norton 
Community High School in 1962.&nbsp; Riley immediately started working for 
the Kansas Department of Transportation after graduation.&nbsp; After being 
transferred to Phillipsburg, Riley became the district foreman for the 
department.&nbsp; Several years later, Riley began farming as a dairyman and 
stockman.

On February 1, 1969 he married Bonnie Brooks at the Norton Christian 
Church.&nbsp; To this union three children were born: Darryl, Angela, &amp; 
Donald.&nbsp; Riley’s greatest joys in life were serving the Lord, raising 
his children &amp; 10 grandchildren, and watching the crops grow.

Riley served on various boards throughout his life including: 
Phillipsburg Board of Education, Rangeland Cooperatives, Englewood 
Church, &amp; Phillipsburg Wesleyan Church.&nbsp; As an active member of the 
Gideon’s organization, he thoroughly enjoyed Bible distribution at the 
local colleges.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of 52 years.&nbsp; His sons, Darryl 
&amp; wife Jayne; Donald &amp; wife LeAnn; and a daughter, Angela &amp; 
husband Randy Babcock; ten grandkids; Elizabeth, Ethan, Callie, Caleb, 
Colten, &amp; Cara Leidig; Alex, Ashley, Abby &amp; Ryan Babcock, all of
 Phillipsburg, Kansas.&nbsp; Two sisters, Nancy Sheldon &amp; husband Larry 
Lay, LuCinda Smith &amp; husband Randall of the Wichita area; and two 
brothers, Darryl E. Leidig &amp; wife Pam of Hesston, Kansas and Douglas
 Leidig of Amarillo, Texas, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and 
cousins.

A wise man of few words, Riley lived his faith through his actions.&nbsp; 
He always had a gentle smile on his face.&nbsp; In more recent years, Riley 
could be found proudly supporting each of his grandkids at whatever 
activity they were involved in.&nbsp; He was truly their number one fan.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the 
Wesleyan Church in Phillipsburg with Pastors Randy Garner and Darrell 
Schmid officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the 
Iowa Union Cemetery, Phillips County.

Riley will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661.

 Phillipsburg, Kansas.&nbsp; Two sisters, Nancy Sheldon &amp; husband Larry 
Lay, LuCinda Smith &amp; husband Randall of the Wichita area; and two 
brothers, Darryl E. Leidig &amp; wife Pam of Hesston, Kansas and Douglas
 Leidig of Amarillo, Texas, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and 
cousins.A wise man of few words, Riley lived his faith through his actions.&nbsp; 
He always had a gentle smile on his face.&nbsp; In more recent years, Riley 
could be found proudly supporting each of his grandkids at whatever 
activity they were involved in.&nbsp; He was truly their number one fan.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the 
Wesleyan Church in Phillipsburg with Pastors Randy Garner and Darrell 
Schmid officiating.&nbsp; The services will be streamed live on the

Richard Allen 'Doc' Mather

Makenzee Kathleen Cupp, age 19, left this world to be with our Lord on March 1, 2021, in La Crosse, Kansas.

Kenzee was born on August 1, 2001 in Grapevine, Texas, the beautiful daughter of Jess and Denee Reis-Cupp.

At the time of her death, Kenzee was a student at North Central 
Kansas Technical College in Hays.&nbsp; She was working towards 
graduating from NCK's culinary arts program, and was very well known for
 her exceptional skills in the kitchen.&nbsp; Kenzee was a 2020 graduate of 
Ness City High School, where she was involved in FFA, basketball and 
school plays.&nbsp; She loved being a youth group counselor at church camp 
and always wanted to help anyone.&nbsp; Kenzee was also a member of 
Celebration Church in Hays.

Kenzee leaves behind many to always cherish her memories.&nbsp; Her 
parents, Jess and Denee Reis-Cupp of Bazine, KS, her grandparents, Jay 
and Debra Cupp of Nekoma, KS, her grandmother, Donna Reis of Ft. Worth 
TX, her brother, Jay Alan Cupp and her cousin by blood, but her sister 
by life, Ava Mae Reis, both from Bazine, KS.&nbsp; She leaves behind her 
boyfriend whom she loved very much, Ethan Epperson-Seib of Hays, KS as 
well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will 
forever miss and hold near to their hearts.&nbsp; Kenzee's radiant contagious
 smile, her joyful, kind spirit, and her love and faith in Jesus 
inspired everyone who crossed her path.&nbsp; Kenzee we will forever remember
 you and always celebrate your life.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dennis Alan Reis, great-grandma Bonnie, and cousin, Donald Keith Cox Jr.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be on Monday, March 8, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at the Ness City High School Auditorium and Gymnasium, Ness City

Memorial contributions may be given to the Makenzee Cupp Memorial

He was born December 9, 1943, in Norton, KS the son of Clifford W. and Hazel I. (AraSmith) Leidig.

Riley was united in marriage to Bonnie M. Brooks on February 1, 1969, in Norton, KS.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include his sons Darryl and Donald; a daughter Angela Babcock all of Phillipsburg; two brothers Darryl E. of Hesston, KS and Douglas of Amarillo, TX; two sisters Nancy Sheldon of Douglass, KS and Lucinda Smith of Udall, KS; and 10 grandchildren.
