Calvin&nbsp; L. Hair, 67 of Savannah, Mo, died April 2, 2021, at his home 
after a lengthy illness.&nbsp; Calvin was born October 17, 1953, in Ransom KS 
to Orville and Willa (Snodgrass) Hair.

He was a graduate of Ransom High School and Cleveland Chiropractic College.

He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1986 to 1990 and was 
honorably discharged.&nbsp; He owned and operated Hair Chiropractic Clinic in
 Plainville KS; retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Savannah United
 Methodist Church and the Savannah Lions Club.

He married Jeanette Sommer on January 1, 1998 in Oregon, MO, and together they moved to Savannah in 2012.

Preceding him in death was his wife Jeanette in December of 2020, his father, infant sister, and a granddaughter.

Survivors include children Matthew Hair of Wichita, KS, &nbsp;Christopher 
Hair of Lawton, OK, Lisa Jordan and husband MJ of Emporia, KS, Alaura 
Leff of Wichita, KS, and Patrick Crain and wife Karine of Overland Park,
 KS; his mother Willa Hair of Hays, KS; six grandchildren; two brothers 
Melvin Hair and wife Loretta of Brownell, KS; &nbsp;Arlan Hair and wife Ellen
 of Pratt, KS; a sister Juliana Wagner of Ness City, KS; sister-in-law 
Alda Sommer of Oregon, MO; &nbsp;other relatives and friends.

Calvin enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.&nbsp; He loved to help out the 
local 4-H Club with their projects and was a mentor and friend to many.

Memorial contributions to the Savannah United Methodist Church or to the Andrew County 4-H would be appreciated.

Joint memorial services for Calvin and his wife Jeanette will be held
 Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 1:30 pm at the Savannah United Methodist 
Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.&nbsp; 
Inurnment with Military honors will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery&nbsp; 
in Oregon, MO.&nbsp; Arrangements under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith 
Savannah Chapel.

Calvin  L. Hair

Don Bradford Smith, age 86, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at 
his home in Tribune, Kansas. He was born on November 5, 1934, in 
Syracuse, Kansas to Albert and Margaret Murphy Smith.&nbsp;

Don was a lifelong resident of Tribune. Don was a cattleman, rancher,
 and farmer. He was a member of the Tribune United Methodist Church, the
 Shriners, Mason Lodge, the American Legion, KLA, and the National 
Cattlemen’s Association where he had served as&nbsp;a past president.

Don served in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of First
 Lieutenant in 1958. On June 26, 1954, Don married Darlene Clark in 
Denver, Colorado. She passed away on December 18, 2003. On November 1, 
2005, Don married Jeri Farmer at the United Methodist Church in Tribune,
 Kansas. She survives.

Survivors of Don include his Wife - Jeri Farmer Smith of Tribune, 
Kansas, Two Sons&nbsp; - Ran &amp; Sharon Smith of Tribune, Kansas, Steel 
Wallis of Montreal, Canada, Three Daughters - Tracey &amp; Randy 
Cardonell of Baldwin, Kansas, Coree &amp; Dan Oakleaf of Sterling, 
Colorado, and Jentri &amp; Kevin Gallagher of Winnowbow, North Carolina,
 One Sister, Myra Hyde of Amarillo, Texas, and One Sister-In-Law - Joan 
Smith of Sharon Springs, Kansas as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and
 friends.

Don is preceded in death by his Parents - Albert &amp; Margaret, his 
First Wife - Darlene, and Two Brothers - Joe Smith, and Bob Smith.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. MT, Thursday, 
April 8th, and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. MT, April 9th at Price &amp; 
Sons Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas.

Carol 'Carrie' Karlin

Wayne Charles Zweifel, 89, of Waldo, Kansas, died on Friday, April 2, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Wayne Charles Zweifel was born on June 1, 1931, one of seven children
 born to Earl and Alice (Fletch) Zweifel. He died in the hospital 
surrounded by his family on Friday, April 2, 2021. He grew up on the 
family farm south of Waldo, Kansas.&nbsp; Wayne was united in marriage to Meg
 (Margaret Francis) at her parents’ home in rural Lucas, Kansas on Feb. 
6, 1955.&nbsp; This union was blessed with five children:&nbsp; Steven Wayne, 
Sheila Jean, Sherry Kay, Shelly May and Bradley Charles.

Wayne graduated from Waldo High School in May of 1949.&nbsp; He attended 
Fort Hays College and then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 
1950 and was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War.&nbsp; He was 
Honorably discharged as Airman First Class in December of 1953.&nbsp; He was a
 Life member of Russell Post #6240 Veterans of Foreign War and the 
Russell American Legion Post #99.&nbsp; He received the Bankers Award for the
 shelter belt he planted and also received an award for the Top Quality 
seed wheat in 2010.

He started farming with his father in the 1950’s. Wayne had a great 
sense of humor and was always a kind and helpful neighbor and friend.&nbsp; 
He often told his children that if you have a job you love, you’ll never
 do another day of work in your life. And his career was truly his life.
 He loved farming and taking care of cattle was his greatest joy.&nbsp; He 
was a member of the Amhearst Methodist Church and was baptized in 
September of 1931.

Surviving family include: his wife Meg of 66 years, daughters Sheila 
(Greg) Hinman – Lewis, Kansas; Sherry (Dale) Pruter – Great Bend, 
Kansas; Shelly (Ron) Post – Great Bend, Kansas and son Bradley (Beth) 
Zweifel – Waldo, Kansas.&nbsp; Grandchildren include: Jeannie (Casey) Grimme,
 Jeff Hinman, Jessica Hinman (Bryce Brown), Luke Pruter (Maggie 
Walters), Audra (Eric) Rostine, Holly (Eric) Johnson, Megan (Ross) 
McGuire, Alisha (Mathew) Livingston, Carol Joyce (C.J.) Ridgley, and 
Payton Zweifel. Great-Grandchildren include:&nbsp; Connor and Claire Grimme, 
Hudson and Hazel Hinman, Kaiden and Kenzie Rostine, Sheridan and Clayton
 Johnson, Amelia McGuire, Wesley, Lily and Eliza Livingston. Wayne’s 
sisters include: Carol Shaffer, Marilyn Ewing, Sharon Mixer, (Terry), 
Glenda Anspaugh (Vic), and brother Keith Zweifel (Loretta) and a host of
 nieces, nephews and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his son Steven Wayne on June 12, 1968 
in a tractor accident, his parents, his brother Norman Zweifel, 
sister-in-law Florene Zweifel, as well as his brother-in-laws: Charles 
Shaffer and Les Ewing. 

A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Luray United Methodist Church in Luray, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Amherst Cemetery southwest of Luray. Military honors will be presented by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, April 08, 2021, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Thursday evening. Wayne Charles Zweifel

Dustin “Dusty” Jay Ream left this earth too early on Feb 28th, 2021 at 9:34 p.m. at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was 44.

Dusty was born on to&nbsp;Ronald and&nbsp;Frankie (Burrell)&nbsp;Ream on&nbsp;January 8th,&nbsp;1977 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays, Kansas. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Bazine, Ks. Dusty grew up in Hays, Kansas.

Dustin enjoyed playing summertime sports including baseball, going to the municipal pool, and being with his friends. Dusty also enjoyed and became quite the established disc golfer. He achieved a state amateur ranking.

After high school, Dusty married Andrea Casper. They later divorced, but from their union Dusty gained one of his best friends - a Rottweiler named Harley. He also gained a very caring set of in-laws (Tom and Debbie Casper). With a love for Pantera, pit bulls, wicked skull tattoos and a giant heart for those he cared about - Dusty was a unique guy. He was not afraid to say what he&nbsp;felt and how he felt. He had a personality that no friend or enemy will ever forget. A few years ago, he worked as a repossession tow truck driver. A job that he truly&nbsp;loved,&nbsp;and chances are if you lived in Northern Kansas and had your vehicle towed away in the cover of night - it was Dusty doing it with a laugh and smile on his face&nbsp;and Jax by his side. If asked, Dusty would say his greatest accomplishment was becoming a father to Ryot. He always had plans of cooking spaghetti, making pallet projects, snagging a repo&nbsp;car,&nbsp;or creating paintings with Ryot to make their time together special. Just spending time with Dusty was an adventure and he will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.

He leaves behind his mother, Frankie, son Ryot Ream, brother Rodney Ream&nbsp;and his wife Tracy, nieces Leslie&nbsp;and her husband Andrew Wyatt,&nbsp;Heather&nbsp;McCain, Reba Burkhart, great nephews LeRoy and Elijah and great nieces Jocelyn, Aurora and Kally, his dog, Jax and Carlos.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald as well as his dogs Harley and Buddy. Dusty’s wish was to be an organ donor and through his passing 3 people were given the gift of life.

He did not wish to have a funeral.&nbsp;He will be honored with a Memorial Disc Golf Tournament that will be announced.

All proceeds from the tournament will go into a trust fund for Ryot.

Viva Caroline Witzel, 82, of the Thompsonville Community of rural Perry, KS, died April 2, 2021 at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; 

She was born November 22, 1938 at Bethune, CO, the daughter of William Harrison “Willie” and Pearl Jane Geering Eslinger. She attended Bethune schools and was a 1956 graduate of Bethune High School. In January 1957, she worked as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell in Burlington, CO.&nbsp; In February of 1969 she transferred to Southwestern Bell Company in Colby, KS, and in August of 1977, she transferred to Topeka, KS. Viva Caroline Witzel

Loren Charles (L.C.) Kramer, 96, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021, at his home in Smith Center, KS.&nbsp; L.C.
 was born November 3, 1924, in Agenda, KS, the son of Ralph T. And Millie
 (Byrd) Kramer.&nbsp; He attended country grade school and when the family 
moved to Washington County he finished his schooling at Washington High 
School. In 1943,&nbsp; he enlisted in the Army and served with the 30th infantry division “Old 
Hickory” in World War II.&nbsp; He received the Purple Heart while serving in
 Normandy.&nbsp; At the end of the war he returned to Cloud County Kansas 
where he met Velda Shields and they were united in marriage on August 
30, 1946.&nbsp; To this union three daughters were born, Linda, Debra, and 
Patricia. In 
February 1947, he began working for South Western Bell and remained with 
them for 33 years.&nbsp; After his retirement he farmed until 2009 when his 
health forced him to sell the family farm house and move into town. L.C.
 is survived by his wife Velda of the home.&nbsp; Daughters; Linda (Dennis) 
Pletcher of Portis, Debra (Curtis) Silsby of Smith Center and Patricia 
Kramer of Smith Center, three grandchildren Dan (Julie) Pletcher, Trisha

November 14, 2020. &nbsp;She was born December 26, 1961, to Wilbur Dean and 
Helen (Prester) Bates in Russell, KS. &nbsp;She grew up in the Lucas area and
 attended the Lucas-Luray school system, and achieved her higher 
education from Brown Mackie College, Salina, KS.

Beth married Robert (Bob) Wilson on July 6, 1991, on the slope of a 
Colorado mountain. &nbsp;She spent her entire life helping others in the 
Lucas area as a CNA, CMA and EMT.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards 
and camping in Colorado. &nbsp;Beth's greatest joy was the time she spent 
with her nieces and nephews and her great nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Later in 
life, Beth and her husband served as camping hosts in Colorado. &nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her mother:&nbsp;Helen;&nbsp;brother:&nbsp;Steven;&nbsp;niece:&nbsp;Katherine Bates;&nbsp;and mother-in-law:&nbsp;Donna Wilson.&nbsp;

Beth Ann Wilson

Mary
 E. (Strecker) Anderson was born on Dec 31, 1936, at the family farm 
south of Paradise, Kansas, to Ernest and Eva (Weller) Strecker. She 
passed on March 26th, 2021. Mary was the oldest of four children: her 
sister Kay and brothers Al and Glen. She graduated from Paradise Rural 
High School in 1954 and married Jay Anderson. They later divorced. Mary 
raised her family in Oberlin, Kansas, working as a bookkeeper, taking 
community college classes when possible, and staying busy with community
 groups, including Eastern Star and 4-H.

Mary
 was a multi-talented woman. She originally majored in Art and Home 
Economics when she first went to college, all while raising children and
 working. She created beautiful art, had tremendous skills as a 
seamstress, and loved to cook gourmet meals. In the ‘70’s, Mary became a
 broker for EF Hutton. Although women had only been able to legally have
 credit cards in their own name a few years earlier, she began a women’s
 investment club to teach women about stocks and how to invest. She 
served on the school board for USD294 in Oberlin for twelve years, with 
four of those years as President.

When
 her children were grown, Mary went back to school. She graduated from 
Fort Hays State University in 1985 with a degree in Accounting, and 
passed the Certified Public Accountant Exam on her first attempt. She 
purchased an accounting and tax practice in Osborne, Kansas, and grew 
the small, one-CPA firm to several locations and 17 employees. She was 
the second woman in Kansas to have her own freestanding CPA firm. Her 
knowledge of finance, investment, business and personal affairs was 
widely sought.&nbsp; &nbsp;Banks would often send Mary clients that were in 
financial trouble, as they knew she would teach them how to manage their
 finances. Mary went above and beyond for her clients and loved helping 
them.

Mary
 was active in the Osborne community and surrounding areas for many 
years. She was in Osborne Rotary and served as President, volunteered 
for the annual Paradise Hunters Feed, and was involved in other 
community activities. She served as Treasurer of the Smoky Hills Public 
Television Board for over 30 years, and was highly respected among the 
board members. In 2018, Mary sold the bulk of her CPA firm and moved 
back to Hays to run the small office she had there. She enjoyed working 
with the Hays Arts Council and loved attending diverse artistic and 
performance events as well.

Mary
 also took time to enjoy life. She was an excellent bridge player and 
loved teaching her skills to others. She travelled widely, including 
backpacking through Europe at 52-years old; visiting her daughter in New
 Zealand; traveling across Eastern Canada by train; and then in her most
 recent trip, completing the journey by train across the western half. 
She was a committed fan of K-State athletics, especially football, even 
before the school’s later successes.&nbsp; 
Mary was much beloved by her grandchildren. She shared her love of art 
and the world with them, reading them Kipling as young children and 
cooking them her famous paella, a dish she had learned from a Spanish 
exchange student she once hosted. She showed them that a love of family,
 community, and honest work are all part of a life well-lived.

Mary
 was highly respected across northwest Kansas for her knowledge and 
professionalism. She was thoughtful, kind, and very, very well-loved.&nbsp; 
Mary will be remembered for her generous heart, helpful nature, and 
determination.&nbsp;

Mary
 is survived by three daughters who adore her: Jill Reichert and her 
husband Wilbur of Oberlin; Amy Anderson and Mark Webster of Oklahoma 
City; and Jane Anderson. She also leaves behind her much loved 
grandsons:&nbsp; Grant Reichert of Wenatchee, Washington; Gannon and Mary 
Reichert, of Oberlin; and Gage and Cole Reichert of Oberlin. She is also
 survived by four great-grandsons: Conner, Creo, Dean and Owen Reichert.
 Mary will be greeted by her grandson Gatlin Reichert, her parents, and 
her brother Al Strecker, beyond this world.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mary will be thoroughly celebrated in Paradise, Kansas, later this summer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jessica F. Gregory, 27, formerly of Osborne, Kansas,&nbsp;died Monday, 
March 29, 2021, in Pierre, South Dakota.&nbsp; She was born in Osborne, 
Kansas&nbsp;on September 23, 1993, a daughter of Jeannie (Lockhart) and Paul 
Gregory, of Osborne, Kansas.

Jessica graduated from Osborne High School in 2011. &nbsp;She went on to 
college and graduated with a Masters Degree in Archeology at the 
University of Indianapolis.&nbsp; She had just started her new job a few 
months ago. &nbsp;Jessica was a Review &amp; Compliance Archeologist for 
South Dakota State Historical Preservation Office at the Cultural 
Heritage Dept. for the State of South Dakota in Pierre, South Dakota.

Jessica is survived by her parents Paul and Jeannie Gregory of Osborne, Kansas&nbsp;and a sister, Sarah Gregory of Lawrence, Kansas.

Raymond C. “Ray” Legleiter, 74, Hays, Kansas, formerly of La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his home.

Ray was born January 29, 1947, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Michael A.
 and Frances F. (Kreutzer) Legleiter.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of 
Rush County, Kansas, before moving to Hays, Kansas, in 2020.&nbsp; A 1965 
graduate of Schoenchen High School, Schoenchen, Kansas, he retired as 
station manager at the Rush Center Co-op, Rush Center, Kansas, after 34 
years.&nbsp; He was then employed at Essex in Hoisington, Kansas, for eight 
years.&nbsp; He spent his remaining work days working part time at the La 
Crosse City Landfill, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus Council 2970, both of La Crosse, Kansas.

On May 29, 1971, he married Janice “Jan” Wilcoxson at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Jan Legleiter, Hays, Kansas; his son, 
Lee Michael “Mike” Legleiter (Randi), La Crosse, Kansas; his daughter, 
Rayna Bittel (Blake), Salina, Kansas; two grandsons, Steven Atteberry, 
and Mason Brackney; a great grandson, Kason Michael Ray Pfeifer; and two
 sisters, Elsie Jacobs, Lakewood, Colorado, and Dorothy Roth, Mulvane, 
Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin 
Legleiter, Paul Legleiter, and Gilbert Legleiter; and two sisters, 
Rosanna Herrman, and Cilerina “Sally” Kuhn.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 4, 2021, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
 at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family 
receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.&nbsp;

Funeral service will be Monday, April 5, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at

Robert Daniel Duran, age 81, of Johnson, KS, died Saturday, March 27, 
2021, in Lawrence, KS. He was born December 12, 1939, in Saunders, KS, 
the son of Salvador Huerta and Melba Nadean (Stringer) Duran. 
Bob attended elementary and high school in Manter, KS. He continued his
 education at Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia. He was a member
 of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. Bob married Keren E. Lowman on May 
20, 1962, in Lebo, KS. He taught school and coached multiple sports in 
Dodge City, KS, until 1970 when they moved to Tipton, MO. In 1972, Bob 
moved his family to Johnson where he joined his father in farming. He 
founded Chem-Till Spray Company, a crop spraying business, with Jesus 
Tarin in 1985, and retired in 2016. Bob was a member of St. Bernadette 
Catholic Church in Johnson, Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Lodge in 
Dodge City. 
Bob is survived by his wife, Keren of Johnson, KS; sons, Bob Duran and 
partner John Humbert of Roeland Park, KS, and Phil Duran and wife Krista
 of Leawood, KS; daughter, Keri Veach and husband Shae of Hays, KS; 
aunt, Minnie Watson of Johnson, KS; brother, Richard Duran and wife 
Linda of Horseshoe Bay, TX; sisters, Anita Antony of Golden, CO, and 
Rosemary Wilkerson and husband Charlie of Johnson, KS; sister-in-law, 
Jeanie Facklam and husband Bert of Tescott, KS; 11 grandchildren, Kayla 
Duran Latham, Brock Duran, Jared Duran, Devon Duran, Dani Duran, Dawson 
Duran, Dina Duran, Kelli Veach, Jodi Veach, Tucker Veach, and Mindi

Robert Daniel Duran

Louis J. Overmiller was born June 12, 1931, to Guy William Overmiller and
 Inez Barrett Overmiller on the family farm 1 mile east of the Thornburg
 Church and Store. He was the first of 6 children and attended 
Thornburg country grade school thru 8th grade, graduating from Smith 
Center High School in 1949 where he played football and earned his FFA 
State Farmer degree. 
 After completing U.S. Army Basic Training at Fort Riley, KS, he 
faithfully served his country in the Korean Conflict where he 
established many life-long friendships. Upon his honorable discharge 
and return to the States, Louis returned to Beaver Township, Smith 
County, Kansas, to farm with his father. He was later introduced to 
Marilyn Coleen Gardner, who would shortly thereafter become his bride of
 65 years. To this union were born 4 children; 3 boys and 1 girl.
 Louis remained actively involved in serving his church and community
 throughout his entire adult life. In addition to his leadership in the
 local Gideons International, the last service to his church was as 
Deacon Emeritus of the Thornburg Community Church. Louis served many 
years on the Superior, Nebraska Creamery Board as well as the local 
USD#237 School Board. In the mid 80’s, Louis and Marilyn established 
Mid-Continent Crop Insurance business in Smith Center, KS which their 
granddaughter continues to successfully operate. 
 Louis loved his family and his farming endeavors, specifically all 
aspects of his livestock operations. It was where he felt most at 
peace. He loved being able to farm with his father, and was especially 
proud to have his oldest son join with him and later turn the farming 
operations over to him. 
 Besides his family, Louis generously invested his life into the 
lives of others and knew no enemies. He was considered a faithful man 
of God; loved his family and extended family and friends; and always 
looked forward to that day he would meet his Heavenly Father 
face-to-face.
 Louis was preceded in death by his father Guy; his mother, Inez; his
 brother, Gary; brother-in-laws Larry Cates and Paul Jones; and nephew,
 Matthew S. Overmiller. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Smith 
Center, KS: sons Mark Overmiller (wife Marci) of Smith Center; Mitch 
Overmiller (wife Tiffany) of Edmond, OK; Tim Overmiller (wife Susan) of 
Hastings, NE; and daughter Tami Overmiller (Dan Gettemeier) of Maryland 
Heights, MO; three sisters, Virginia Cates of Belleville, KS; Joyce 
Jones of Smith Center, KS; Lois Unger (husband Duane) of Colby, KS; one

Ernest “Dick” Zachman, age 102, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. He was born May 20,1918, in Trego County, Kansas to John J. and Mary (Armbrister) Zachman. On December 25, 1947, he married Adabelle Katherine Aust at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ellis, Kansas. Ernest was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was a past council member. He was also a past board member of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed welding and playing the accordion. Ernest was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and "greatpa". Ernest served in the US Army during WWII from January 1942 to December 1945, in the Panama Canal and with the European Theater in Germany. He is survived by his wife, Adabelle Zachman, Ellis, KS; a son Darrell Zachman (Annie), Hays, KS; a daughter Diane Henderson (Floyd Henderson), Ellis, KS. Anthony P. “Tony” Seib, 92, Munjor, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at HaysMed.

He was born May 25, 1928, on the family 
farm in Ness County, Kansas, the son of Paul and Mary (Stoecklein) 
Seib.&nbsp; On November 21, 1949, he married Wilma Stecklein In Ness City, and
 they celebrated 71 years of marriage.&nbsp; He worked for many years as 
supervisor for the Ellis County Road and Bridge Department and ran a 
mail contract route for the U.S. Postal Service for over 50 years.&nbsp; Tony
 was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a charter 
member of the St. Francis Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 
#11492.

Survivors include his wife Wilma of 
Munjor, five sons: Ron (Jean) Seib of Tacoma, WA, Don (Janice) Seib of 
Munjor, Mike (Nancy) Seib of Hays, Frank (Paulette) Seib of Munjor, and 
Allen Seib of Jefferson City, MO, seven brothers: Eugene Seib, Paul 
(Shelby) Seib, Jr., Robert (JoAnn) Seib, Tom (Ellen) Seib, Vern (Glenda)

Anthony P. 'Tony' Seib

Emery A. Kathka, 84, of McCook, NE passed away March 31, 2021, at his 
home. He was born May 25, 1936, to Gustave and Laura Pearl (Jennings) 
Kathka in Oberlin, KS. 
 Emery grew up on the family farm four miles North of Oberlin and 
attended East Liberty School until the family moved to Oberlin and he 
then attended Oberlin Grade School and graduated from Decatur Community 
High School in 1954.
 Emery married Delores M. Keith on May 25, 1955, in Oberlin and they 
lived southwest of Marion, NE until Emery went into the Army in 
September of 1956. To this marriage three sons were born, Dennis Keith, 
David Karl, and Duane Kyle Kathka. He was in Ft. Lenard Wood, MO and 
later go transferred to Ft. Polk, LA. Emery was discharged from the Army
 in September of 1958. Shortly after being discharged from the Army, 
Emery started working for Chamber Brothers feeding cattle for 9 ½ years.
 Then he moved to Danbury after buying a place to raise hogs and lived 
there for several years.
 At the age of 10, Emery started working for his half-brother, Ival, 
herding sheep and then later he worked for Ival on the farm and then 
went into partnership with him. Later he bought a farm northeast of 
Oberlin, built a house on it, farmed, and raised cattle and hogs. In 
1997, Emery moved to McCook, NE and built and house and lived there 
until his passing. 
 Emery is survived by his sons, Dennis and Teresa Kathke of 
Havensville, KS, David Kathka and wife Teresa of Elgin, IL, and Duane 
Kathka of Arapahoe, NE; grandchildren: Samantha Kathke, Sabrina and Even
 Deubner, Daniel Kathke, and Megan Kathka and; great-grandchildren: 
MaKaila, Shaila, Korensa, Jaiden and Joshua; sister: Agnes Urban of 
Wichita, KS; sisters-in-law, Ann Kathka of Humansville, MO; Noreen Jumps
 of McCook, NE, Anita Surber of Bainbridge, IN, Jeanenne Keith of 
Phoenix, AZ, brother-in-law, Howard Kenfield of Ogallala, NE and many 
nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Emery A. Kathka

Vicki Lynn Cox was born June 16, 1948 in Wray, Colorado, to Beulah and 
Ron Ashliman of Idalia, Colorado. Vicki’s father, Ron, was a decorated 
veteran of World War II, and managed a fuel delivery business in the 
Idalia area. Vicki attended elementary school in Idalia, continuing with
 school in Denver and Greeley, graduating there in 1966. Older brothers 
Lance and Larry Hughey allowed rough-and-tumble Vicki to tag along, 
creating countless memories that she often shared with friends and 
family. 
Some of Vicki’s greatest memories in her adult life was taking Leesa on 
as a daughter of her own during her time living north of Burlington. 
Vicki took the role of mom seriously. She sewed clothes for Leesa, 
attended every school activity, made sure Leesa attended Vacation Bible 
School, and spent countless hours helping with chores and keeping the 
farmstead there humming along. Vicki later took on the role of a 
licensed insurance agent for Colorado Federal Agency, owned at the time 
by Ralph Kleweno. That special friendship with Ralph continued until his
 passing in 1987. 
On February 14, 1987, Vicki married the love of her life, Arrie Cox. 
Arrie was a licensed master plumber that spent a career in many 
commercial projects along the Front Range of Colorado. Also from Idalia,
 Arrie had many fond memories of playing with the Ashliman family many 
years earlier. Arrie and Vicki made their home wherever the current work
 as a plumber and caretaker of his folks took Arrie. Retirement found 
Vicki and Arrie in St. Francis, Kansas, followed by a time in Brush and 
Limon, Colorado, and finally made their home in Colby, near the care 
center where Vicki passed on March 19, 2021. 
Vicki was a consummate homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother through 
the years. She was very witty, adept at card-playing, making aa great 
partner in Pitch and loved beating everyone at a good game of Rummy. 
Vicki could make a mean scalloped potatoes, taco salad, or cream cheese 
frosting. She maintained many friendships over the years, and the 
extended families always found Vicki kind and welcoming to her home. Her
 small canine friends punctuated her life and brought her great joy, 
even when she was lucky enough to gain a visit from one in the care 
center in later years. 
Vicki had great skills in dexterity with stellar penmanship, expert 
sewing, and happened to be the best at repairing and replacing plastic 
gates on irrigation pipe. She enjoyed going for rides and travel, but 
did not enjoy driving in the city. Arrie and Vicki took enjoyable trips 
to the Black Hills of South Dakota where she looked for the next piece 
of Black Hills Gold jewelry. She was always dedicated to attending as 
many grandchildren’s events as possible, was an avid Bronco’s fan, and 
always took time to watch the World Series. 
Vicki’s sense of humor was truly unique. No one could beat her at 
finding the absolutely-perfect greeting card that happened to fit its 
intended recipient. She coined many hilarious nicknames for family and 
friends, usually tied to a funny experience enjoyed together. Her home 
had many enjoyable and light-hearted humorous items that always gave 
rise to great conversation and good laughs. 
Vicki always said “You must bloom where you are planted”, and she did 
just that in each of her homes. Vicki will be remembered for her spirit,
 loving support, and timely quick wit. She loved her family intensely, 
and loved sharing time, fun, laughter, and music with the friends she 
easily made wherever she lived. 
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Ron and Beulah, and a 
brother Larry G. Hughey. She is survived by her husband, Arrie Cox of 
Colby, Kansas, her daughter Leesa McCue (Troy) and family of Arriba, 
Colorado, and two stepsons Mike Cox (Jennifer) and family of Tucson, 
Arizona and Shawn Cox (Primrose) of Thornton, Colorado, and a brother, 
Lance C. Hughey of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by 
grandchildren: Mercedes and Austen McCue; Michael, Heather, Levi, 
Ocesun, and Jypsea Cox; and Samuel Cox; Nephews Clay Hughey (Julia) and 
family (Mavis and George) of Saratoga Springs, New York, and Tim Hughey 
of Grand Junction, Colorado. She is also survived by dear friend and 
sister-in-law Tricia Hughey of Denver and many friends and extended 
family.

Mary Lucille Marcotte of Zurich passed into her eternal resting place on
 Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the Redbud Village in Plainville, KS at 
the age of 92.
 She was born on January 28, 1929, to Joseph Bernard Garvert and Ida 
Catherine (Weachter) Garvert in Plainville. Mary graduated from 
Plainville High School in 1946 and then attended Marymount College in 
Salina for one year before returning to Rooks County. For a time, she 
worked for Gilson’s Drug Store and Donavan’s Car Dealership, both in 
Plainville. Later in life she worked as a secretary at the Palco Grade 
and High Schools. She was a lifetime member of the St. Anne’s Sodality 
and was active in the Rooks County Extension programs.
 Mary was united in marriage to Adelore Edward Marcotte on April 24, 
1952, and settled in Palco. After the death of Adelore in July of 1965, 
she moved the family to a farm outside of Zurich, where she remained 
until her health deteriorated.
 Mary is survived by her children, Tim Marcotte of Zurich, Cary 
(Lydia) Marcotte of Virginia Beach, VA, Rod (Lisa) Marcotte of Hays, KS,
 Cathy (Richard) Haverfield of Tulsa, OK, Frank (Denise) Marcotte of 
Clarksville, MD, and Mary Jean Scott of Susanville, CA; siblings, 
William Garvert of Arlington, VA, Leona Vinzant of Wetumpka, AL, and 
Dorothy Ackerman of Monte Vista, CO; ten grandchildren and 7 
great-grandchildren with one on the way.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ida Garvert; 
husband, Adelore Marcotte; brothers, Leonard, Don, and Roy Garvert; and a
 granddaughter, Christin Haverfield.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at

Mary Lucille Marcotte

Benedict Francis Brenner, 99, passed away on March 31, 2021 at the 
Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on March 23, 
1922, 6 miles north of Bazine, on the family farm, to William and Rose 
(Sweeney) Brenner.

Rosary and parish vigil will be on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at the

Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on March 23, 
1922, 6 miles north of Bazine, on the family farm, to William and Rose 
(Sweeney) Brenner.Rosary and parish vigil will be on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at the

Benedict Francis Brenner

Gary J. Mater, 77, passed away in Nov. 22, 2020, at his son’s home in
 Hoisington.&nbsp; He was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Troy, Ohio, to Fred and Rita
 (Fuerst) Mater.&nbsp; Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, 
earning the rank of PFC.

Gary, a lifetime resident of Olmitz, also living in California, New 
Mexico and Arizona, was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz.&nbsp; He
 was a truck driver and machinist, working for a broad range of 
industries.&nbsp; Gary led a full life of various interests, including music,
 having played the guitar and dulcimer.

Survivors include one son, Randy Mater and Ashley Walters of 
Hoisington; two brothers, Kenneth J. Mater and wife Nancy of Olathe and 
Dan Mater and wife Renee of Olmitz; sister-in-law, Kim Schulz of 
Linwood; grandchildren, Ava Bray, LaShauna Mickle, Eileah Morris and 
Randon Morris; and great granddaughter, Katerina Chambers.&nbsp; He was 
preceded in passing by his parents, and by his brother, Dave Mater.

Graveside inurnment services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 
10th, 2021, at St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz, Kansas.&nbsp; There will be no 
visitation or viewing, as cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Memorials may be

Melva Torson Barnett, 62, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Hays 
Medical Center in Hays. On October 9, 1958, the Lord sent down a 
caregiving angel born to Vernon and Mary Alice (Teeters) Torson. She 
married Steven Barnett on February 11, 1977, at Dighton. 
Melva graduated from Dighton High School in 1977. She started working 
at Lane County Long Term care right out of high school, where she 
devoted her time taking care of others. She then started a lawn 
business in 1992. During this time she continued to care for the 
elderly in the community. In 1999 she started working at the Lane 
County Health Department. She was a loyal caregiver to many community 
members. She was well known in the community and very outgoing. She 
was known by several friends as “Mama Melva”. 
She is survived by her Husband- Steven, Son- Tod (Abby) Barnett of 
Brewster, Daughter-In-Law- Veronica Kennon of Chandler, Texas, Brother- 
Victor (Crysta) Torson of Crookston, Nebraska, Sister- Beverly (Lester) 
Bockelman of Dighton, 4 Grandchildren- Hunter Barnett, Brady Barnett, 
Rayah Barnett and Harley Kennon and several nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Son- Vernon Barnett, Grandson-
 Harrison Barnett, 5 Brothers- Vern Torson, Jr., Marty Torson, Tony, 
Torson, Billie Jo Torson, &amp; Rickey Torson and 2 Sisters- Mary Jane 
Travis and Dixie McLendon. 
Funeral Service will be at 3:00 PM Friday at First Christian Church in 
Dighton with Rev Randy Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Dighton

Melva Barnett

Gabriel Christian “Gabe” Rupp, 18, Hays, died Tuesday, March 30, 2021, in a highway accident in Jewell County, Kansas.

He was born October 11, 2002, in Hays, 
the son of Michael “Mike” Huskey and Stacie Rupp.&nbsp; Gabe was a senior at 
Hays High School.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was
 an altar server.&nbsp; Gabe’s favorite thing was fishing, he loved music, 
playing guitar, sketching, and being around his family.&nbsp; With his 
natural smile and easy-going friendly nature, Gabe spread joy everywhere
 and quickly became a friend to all he met.&nbsp; He loved to have fun and 
was known to be a joker.&nbsp; His shenanigans will continue in heaven.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his parents: Mike 
Huskey and Stacie Rupp of Hays, his grandparents: Mitchell and Geri Rupp
 of Hays, Terry Morris and wife Linda of Newburg, MO, and Theresa 
Horrell of Truxton, MO, two brothers: Reese and Ethan Rupp of Hays, one 
sister: Isabella Rupp of Hays, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with 
Fr. Brian Lager officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Joseph 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from
 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral
