George Duane Harris passed away on August 23, 2024, at his home in Stockton, KS. He was born on August 28, 1943, in Stafford, Kansas to George William and Edna Pearl (Flanders) Harris.

Duane joined the U.S. Air Force in 1965. He served as a Staff-Sergeant in Thailand during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he married Gloria Goddard on October 11, 1969, in Stockton. The couple moved to Teaneck, New Jersey where he worked for Sears and Roebuck as a Credit Sales Manager. While in New Jersey they we blessed with their first child, Edna. In 1972 they moved to Stockton and Duane worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation. Their family welcomed their second child, Crystal, a short time later. Their family was completed upon the birth of their third child, Kirtis. Duane later transferred to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Water Resources, where he retired. He enjoyed helping his mother-in-law with farm work for many years in his free time and continued helping with the farm for the remainder of his life.

While living in Stockton, he was actively involved in the community. He was a member of the Main Street Christian Church for many years and served as an elder and a board member. Later he transferred to the First Christian Church in Phillipsburg where he also served as an elder and board member. He was an active member of Stockton Lions Club until it disbanded after which he joined the Plainville Lions Club. He even served a term as District Governor with the Lions Club from 1989-1990. He also belonged to Gideons. As a dedicated citizen of Stockton, Duane was a key person in keeping the Stockton Food Pantry open and available for those in need until his health limited his participation.

Duane loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He especially enjoyed interacting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always got excited when one of them dropped by for a visit or when he was invited to any of their events. He always looked forward to his grandkids’ “Graduation Trips” where the grandkids got to go with them and do the planning and the driving. They were able to take trips to California, the Grand Canyon, PBR in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the Painted Dessert and Carlsbad Cavern, and even March Madness. He was determined to do these trips with all the grandkids. He was looking forward to two more such trips.

Cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks in football and basketball was a pastime he enjoyed with long-time friends Rocque Garcia and Dennis Bedore. They would often watch games together at home. They even took road trips to watch away games including Texas. Duane would watch just about any sport on TV, including golf.

Duane could be found in front of his own sewing machine piecing together quilt tops for his great-grandchildren and the little ones in church. Gloria was tasked with completing them. He usually had them piled up waiting for her to finish them.

Duane was a loving and devoted husband, and was blessed by three children, eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. All of whom will greatly miss his wisdom, love, and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Goodwin; sister, Sheryll White; and his twin sisters, Pauleen and Paulette Harris.

Survivors include his wife of almost 55 years, Gloria of the home in Stockton; children, Kirtis Harris (Kari) of Seward, NE, Edna Jenkins (Wayne) of Hill City, KS, and Crystal Kearns (Benjamin) of Phillipsburg, KS; eight grandchildren: Kassandra “Kasey” Grauerholz (Craig) of Kensington, KS, Caryssa McKinnon (John) of Linton, IN, Mary Benton (Brad) of Stockton, Andrew Johnson (fiancé Taylor) of LaCrosse, KS, Jacob Kearns of Phillipsburg, KS, Jarod Harris (Miranda) of Ann Harbor, MI, Krystyn Harris of High Point, NC, and George Jenkins Jr. of Hill City, KS; 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George Riffel (Jeanette) of Ness City; sister-in-law, Terrie Goddard of Salina, KS; ex son-in-law, Donald Johnson of LaCrosse, KS; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am on October 12, 2024 at the First Christian Church, 150 S. 7th in Phillipsburg, KS 67661.

George Duane Harris

Patrick Alan “Pat” Thayer, Stockton, KS, passed away on August 18, 2024, at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO, at the age of 67. He was born on November 12, 1956, to Austin R. and Imogene P. (Bird) Thayer in Omaha, NE. He married Lorna Hahn on March 16, 1980, in Stockton. They were blessed with four children: Lewis, Aaron, Clayton, and Melissa.

Pat lived in many places as an “air force brat” but mainly grew up in California. He graduated from Norton High School in 1975. As a revered contractor, Pat was known not only for his exceptional skills in the contracting world, but also for his remarkable ability to connect with others. A great conversationalist, he had a talent for engaging people in lively discussions, always leaving them with a smile. His fantastic sense of humor made every interaction a joy, and his advice and wisdom were sought after by many.

Pat had a love for new inventions. His inventive spirit was matched by his passion for restoring antique fans and flashlights, as well as creating new games. He also cherished his time spent with family, often seen relaxing and enjoying life around the backyard picnic table, where laughter and stories were often the highlight. He also loved attending his grandkids’ sporting events.

His love for football, Nascar, woodworking, airplanes, and trains depicted his hobbies and interests as well as his diverse passions and zest for life. Pat leaves behind a legacy of joy, creativity, and heartfelt connections. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the many lives he touched.

Arlene Maier, 93, of Oakley, died Sunday, September 8, 2024. She was born November 21, 1930, in Otis, KS, to Samuel and Mollie (Adolph) Wagner. She married Herbert Maier on May 8, 1949, at the Bender Hill Lutheran Church and to this union four children were born. Arlene enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, canning and baking. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herbert; siblings, Raymond Wagner, Elsie Boxberger, Paul Wagner, Harold Wagner and Norman Wagner; grandson Rick Hubbard and granddaughter Tera Robinson.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Ron) Vrbas, George Maier, Gregory (Wava) Maier, and Timothy (Alison) Maier; 8 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.Visitation is 5-7:00 pm Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley.

Arlene Maier

Delores (Dee) Diane Mongeau was born at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS on October 28, 1956. She passed away on September 9, 2024 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska surrounded by her loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Dee graduated from Logan High School and went on to further her education at Colby Community College. She took some additional courses, online, later in life.

Wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend. These are many of the titles Dee carried with her throughout her life. Not only was she a mother to her children, she was also a foster mother to several and a mother figure to many of her children’s friends.

Dee met the love of her life, Bert, at a singles dance held at the American Legion in Agra, KS in 1986. They were united in marriage on January 30, 1988 at the Catholic Church in Phillipsburg, KS.

Dee spent a majority of her working life in accounting and inventory for oil and gas companies, with the last several years doing accounting work for the family’s company, B&amp;B Redimix. She loved to travel around to her children’s activities; she was their biggest cheerleader. Being a grandmother was something she adored.

Dee was a lover with a big, giving heart. She wore her heart on her sleeve and loved her family and friends endlessly. She was always just a phone call away and was happy to lend a listening ear. She also loved animals, including her most recent pets: her dog, Cookie, and her cats Uno, Blue, and Tabby. Her care also extended to numerous farm and sick animals she would nurture back to health. Dee’s hobbies included reading, knitting/crocheting, canning, putting puzzles together, baking, gardening, playing the piano, and playing candy crush. She had a great love of flowers and enjoyed spending time each spring and summer outside taking care of her flower garden. Dee also spent a great deal of time volunteering through 4-H, serving as a club leader and helping with the dog project. She loved to collect anything with wolves. Dee was the glue to the family and her closest loved ones had the pleasure of seeing her feisty side come out from time to time.

Dee is survived by her husband, Bert; children Shane and wife Hannah of Glade, KS; Jodie and husband Ryan of Glade, KS; Kristy and husband Danny of Stuttgart, KS; Nathan and wife Kelly of Conroe, TX; brother Darrell and wife Deb of Stockton, KS, sister Brenda and husband Ronnie of Phillipsburg, KS; 8 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Katy, Allison, Trevor, Morgan, Quinley, Ella and Knox. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth Brobst.

Dee Mongeau

Kat Cowley, 69, of Russell, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the Wilson Care Center in Wilson, Kansas.

Kat, as she liked to be called, was born Kathy Sue Starnes on April 19, 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the first of four children to Eugene Richard and Edna Kathryn (LeMansky) Starnes.&nbsp; She grew up between Bison, Kansas, and Ellinwood, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Ellinwood High School in the Class of 1973.&nbsp; She later achieved a degree from Hays Academy of Hair Design in Hays, Kansas.

Kat enjoyed working as a hairdresser much of her life, including many years at her own salon, Kat’s Hair Affair, in Natoma, Kansas.&nbsp; She also worked in various different jobs throughout her years and throughout the States. &nbsp;From pipeline hand to certified nursing assistant, Kat wasn’t afraid to work hard, start over, or try something new.&nbsp;

After six previous marriages, Kat found her lucky number seven.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Terry Richard Cowley on December 28, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp; His daughter, Meagan, became her step-daughter and Kat spent the next 13 years loving life with Terry. &nbsp;He was tragically taken from her April 3, 2014, during a heart surgery at only 51 years of age.

Kat had a determined spirit and an enormous heart; she cared for all living things.&nbsp; She was a member of the Natoma United Methodist Church and the Natoma American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed classic cars, Harley Davidson Motorcycles and spending time at Wilson Lake with friends.&nbsp; Kat had an endless love of life’s adventures and a passion for all the people that she met along those adventures.&nbsp; She had a special place in her heart for her animals and plants and cared deeply for the often unloved. &nbsp;Her heart held unfathomable depths of love, and she was as equally fierce as she was kind.

Kat’s surviving family include her two brothers, Gregory Scott Starnes of Natoma, Kansas, and Kelly Gene Starnes of Ellinwood, Kansas; sister, Lori Ann Kowalsky of Ellinwood, Kansas; step-daughter Meagan Eiland of Garden City, Kansas; her four-legged companions, Bentley and Ellie; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A special time for family and friends to gather will be 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; A memorial has been established as the Kat Cowley Memorial Fund.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Ivis Wayne Hanson, long time farmer, rancher of Altory township was born September 2, 1921, in Kanona, Kansas, the son of Otto &amp; Bozina (Votapka) Hanson and departed this life on September 8, 2024, at the age of 103.

He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County, living on the farm until 2005 when he moved into Wheatridge Terrace retirement apartments in Oberlin, Kansas. He was a member of the United Church of Oberlin, the Oberlin American Legion and VFW. Ivis loved to watch TV, read, keep up with his favorite sports teams, and most of all he loved to visit with his family and friends.

He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1940, and after three and half years in the Army and a WWII veteran, he graduated from Kansas State University 1952.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Evald (1968); two sisters: Violet (1984) and Goldie (2005).

He is survived by a host of nephews and nieces.

Janet Renz passed away in their home together at LaCrosse, Kansas on Thursday,
&nbsp;August 29, 2024, and on Friday, August 30, 2024, respectively.

Ray was born June 19, 1937, to W.C “Bill” and Alma (Meier) Renz of Rush Center
Kansas. Janet was born September 28, 1939, to Earl and Dorothy (Krug) Moore of
Rush Center.&nbsp; After a long childhood crush, Ray married the love of his
life on December 27,1958, at Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center, Kansas.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
Ray graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1955.&nbsp; Ray completed Army basic
training in 1956 and entered the Army Reserves and was active up into the early
1960s. Ray went back to work for Renzoil hauling propane, gasoline and diesel
contributing to the family business with his father Bill Renz’s gas
station.&nbsp; After having worked there since the 1st grade he became the
owner of Renzoil and ran the business up until the 2005 era.&nbsp; Ray sold the
bulk propane business to Moeder Oil in Great Bend, and continued to serve his
existing farm customers until he was close to 80 years old.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Janet was a 1957 LaCrosse High School graduate and homecoming queen.&nbsp; She
was a homemaker and librarian at the Barnard Library in LaCrosse Kansas.&nbsp;
She worked at Renzoil alongside Ray handling the bookwork for a long period.&nbsp;
Janet attended FHSU majoring in Art later in her life sharing her paintings and
creativity with her family.&nbsp; She loved all animals and considered her cats
family members.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A proud graduate of Hays High School, class of 1955, Betty dedicated her life to her passions and her family. She was a woman of many talents, finding joy in gardening, fishing, and reading. Her culinary skills were remarkable, and she became famous for her made-from-scratch pies, which were a staple at family gatherings and special occasions. Her warm-heartedness and joyful spirit were reflected through her many interests and the time she devoted to her loved ones.

Betty took great delight in spending time with her family, particularly with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her enduring love for her family and the memories shared together will be treasured forever.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, JR Chew; her son, Otto E. Chew; her daughters, Dolores (David) McLeland, Debbie Krug, and Jessie Chew; and her sister, Patricia "Doll" Rogers. She will also be remembered with smiles and laughter by her 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The loss of her siblings, Edward "Ruppy", Francis "Hammie", Robert "Robbie", Delores "Lorse", William "Bill", Richard "Richie", and Thomas, has shaped her journey, but her spirit remained vibrant and full of love throughout her life.

Marcus R. Weigel, age 92, of Hays, Kansas died September 7, 2024 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care, WaKeeney, KS, He was born July 7, 1932 in Victoria, KS to Marcus and Sophia (Nowak) Weigel.

Marcus graduated from Victoria High School, and he answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army and the Korean War. Returning home from the Korean War, Marcus met and married Pauline Rupp, February 14, 1955. They had one son, Stephen. Pauline preceded him in death June 23, 2014.

The family decided to move to Aurora. CO. and Marcus worked for Lehrer's Flowers, as a florist. After a few years, he had the opportunity to manage a condominium complex in Dillon, CO. Mark had a deep love for the Colorado Rockies and loved fishing at every opportunity he had. When the time came to retire, they retired to Hays to be closer to family.

Aaron Lee Mattix, 74, of Colby, KS, died Thursday, September 5, 2024. He was born on December 2nd, 1949, to Charles and Ila Mattix in Oskaloosa, IA. He was raised in the farming life with his eye to the skies, the beginning of a lifelong love of tractors and airplanes.

He left Iowa to study theology at Mid America Nazarene University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Religion in 1972. While at MNU, he met his one and only girlfriend, Jayne VanDyne. They married three days after college graduation in May 1972. Lee attended Nazarene Theological Seminary 1972-1975, graduating with a Masters of Divinity. After graduation, the newlyweds answered a call to be minister of the Nazarene church in Creston, IA. They served in this role for 2 1⁄2 years before moving to Jayne’s hometown of Independence, KS to be near her family. They built a house together and raised their three children: Aaron Kent, Caleb Van, and Leah Jayne.

Harmony Valley was their home for 45 years and served as base for Lee's aviation hobby, with a private airstrip for morning flights in his own planes, as well as visits and fly-bys from his many friends. He enjoyed his role as the 'candy bomber' to area Amish communities and keeping tabs on neighborhood activities.

Lee achieved a boyhood dream at 47 years old when earned his private pilot’s license, taking lessons in the evenings after working as a carpenter and handyman. Lee once again answered the call to ministry and served as preacher at the Congregational Church in Independence for 12 yrs; building relationships that eventually elected him to two terms as a Montgomery County Commissioner.

At the age of 62, Lee took Communion with the Catholic Church, initiating a new phase of religious devotion in his life.

Even in semi-retirement, he stayed engaged with his community in Southeast Kansas, working a variety of jobs including airport manager at KPPF, and the service department at Prairie Land Partners, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow workers and customers, often taking the “scenic route” on deliveries.

Aaron Lee Mattix devoted his life in service to the Lord and was most proud of his role as a faithful husband of 52 years to his wife Jayne and father of three children, Aaron, Caleb, Leah, and grandfather of four.

 </figure>Aaron Lee Mattix, 74, of Colby, KS, died Thursday, September 5, 2024. He was born on December 2nd, 1949, to Charles and Ila Mattix in Oskaloosa, IA. He was raised in the farming life with his eye to the skies, the beginning of a lifelong love of tractors and airplanes.He left Iowa to study theology at Mid America Nazarene University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Religion in 1972. While at MNU, he met his one and only girlfriend, Jayne VanDyne. They married three days after college graduation in May 1972. Lee attended Nazarene Theological Seminary 1972-1975, graduating with a Masters of Divinity. After graduation, the newlyweds answered a call to be minister of the Nazarene church in Creston, IA. They served in this role for 2 1⁄2 years before moving to Jayne’s hometown of Independence, KS to be near her family. They built a house together and raised their three children: Aaron Kent, Caleb Van, and Leah Jayne.Harmony Valley was their home for 45 years and served as base for Lee's aviation hobby, with a private airstrip for morning flights in his own planes, as well as visits and fly-bys from his many friends. He enjoyed his role as the 'candy bomber' to area Amish communities and keeping tabs on neighborhood activities.Lee achieved a boyhood dream at 47 years old when earned his private pilot’s license, taking lessons in the evenings after working as a carpenter and handyman. Dighton- Robert (Bob) L. Scheib, 94, died on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Lane County Hospital, Dighton. He was born on December 23, 1929 at Coldwater, KS the son of Walter and Wilma (Speed) Scheib. He married Aloah J Lampe on August 16, 1956 at Clayton, NM.

Bob served in the United States Army, in Germany, for 2 years as a mechanic and after his discharge he moved to St. John, KS and later to Dighton to start his farming career. He also worked several years as a mechanic at Star Garage in Dighton. He enjoyed farming, hunting, going to auctions and garage sales, attending his children and grandchildren’s activities, loved all his animals on the farm and was an avid Royals fan. He also enjoyed his time serving as a board member for Lane-Scott Electric, was a lifetime member of American Legion Post # 190 and VFW of Dighton and served many years on the American Legion Honor Guard. He just received recognition for being an American Legion member for 70 years.

He is survived by his Daughter- Joyce &amp; Eldon Hall of Dighton, Sons- W Wayne Scheib of Holcomb, Roger &amp; Sheila Scheib of Liberal and Robert and Keva Scheib of Emporia, 9 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Wife- Aloah J (Lampe) Scheib, Parents- Walter and Wilma (Speed) Scheib, Sister- Genevieve Lutz-Hoskins (Scheib) and Grandson- Daniel Wayne Scheib.

Dave worked with cattle and farming for Bosley Farms before he was a lineman/ journeyman for Lane-Scott Electrical Company where he retired from. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Dighton.

Survivors include his significant other, Diane Calvin of Ness City; son, Nolan Speer and children, Elias and Remi of Nampa, ID; 2 daughters, Jamie Speer and Steve Stegeman and children, Elizabeth and Berklee of Delia, Tara Howard and child, Lucas of Colby; brother, Gary (Lisa) Howard of Overland Park; and sister, June (David) Schneider of Great Bend and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Twila Howard; and 2 brothers Gene and Dale Howard.

No service is planned but, visitation with the family will be on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home.

Allen Carl Lawson, 66, passed away on September 07, 2024 at the Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on August 25, 1958 in Los Angeles, California the son of Carl and Uvada (Wood) Lawson.

Allen was a equipment operator for the County Road and Bridge Department. He was in the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He married Kathleen Wittman on May 13, 2005, in Ness City, Kansas. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Lawson of Bazine; daughter, Bobbiejo Laughlin and Ernest Patrick of Salina; stepson, Russell (Twanya) Wittman of Sedilia, MO; brother, David (Lori) Lawson; sister, Cindy Burnham, both of McAlester, OK; and 2 grandchildren, James and Angela Laughlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepson, John Wright.

Nora grew up in Codell, KS where she was very active throughout school in band, sports, and cheer. She graduated in 1958. After the birth of her 2 children, Raylan Jennings of Flint, TX and Laura O’Brate of Hartsel, CO she returned to college at Ft. Hays receiving her degree for teaching English. Most of her career was secretarial. Nora was involved in Metaphysics and deeply enjoyed genealogy.

After retiring, she moved to Ness City from Springfield, MO in 2002. She was active with the Historical Society and the Senior Center. Nora had a great sense of humor. She loved deeply in her own way.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Louella Simpson; her sister, Elva Simpson; and her brother, Delmar Simpson.

She is survived by her 2 children, Raylan and Laura; sister Janice Reading; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Nora is being cremated, and a private family service will be held on October 5, 2024 at the Norman Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

He was born on February 4, 1942, in Rozel, Kansas, the son of Lawrence Lesley &amp; Doris Margaret Hahn Webb. A lifetime resident of Deerfield and Holcomb, Kansas area. He was a farmer and COOP Fertilizer manager in Holcomb, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas, Elks Lodge #1404, and the Knights of Columbus #2795 of Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp;

On January 28, 1967, he married Leanna L. Litton in Garden City, Kansas. She Survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Leanna Webb of Deerfield, Kansas, One Son - Shannon and Christie Webb of Deerfield, Kansas, One Daughter - Annette M. Webb of Kansas City, Missouri, One Brother - Melvin L. &nbsp; Timothy Allen “Tim” Augustine, departed this life on September 5, 2024, at his beloved family farm in Ellis, Kansas, where he spent each day of his life surrounded by the land he loved.Born on June 19, 1965, in Hays, Kansas, to Leonard Sr. and Otillia (Flax) Augustine. Tim grew up with a deep-seated love for farming which would shape not only his career but also his identity. A proud graduate of Ellis High School in 1983, he dedicated his life to the family farm. From an early age, he embedded himself in the rewarding life of a farmer and stockman. He married&nbsp;Lori (Werth) Augustine on October 14, 1989 at St. Mary's Church in Ellis, KS.In 1983, alongside his brother Leonard Jr., Tim founded L&amp;T Dairy, a venture that was a testament to their shared passion for agriculture. After selling the dairy herd in 2001, Tim and Leonard Jr. transitioned the operation into L&amp;T Farms, diversifying into raising beef cattle while continuing his lifelong commitment to crop farming. The farm operated not just as a business but as a family operation, with Tim’s son, Ryan and brothers Darrell and Mark playing vital roles.Tim was known not just for his dedication to hard work, but for his soft heart, kind demeanor and instilling in his children his love of the land and animals. All of the kids worked side by side with their dad from the moment they could pick up a tree branch. He especially loved caring for the bucket calves, often feeding them long beyond their weaning age, simply because he wanted to ensure they were well cared for. Add how he loved to sneak food to the family dogs especially when he was told not to because he always thought they were hungry. His gentle nature endeared him to everyone he met, and his home was always a welcoming place. Tim was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Ellis Knights of Columbus 3rd degree. He also enjoyed polka music and playing pinochle.

His greatest pride, however, was his family. Tim is survived by his devoted wife, Lori, and their beloved children: Ashley Augustine of Hays, Beth Schartz (Michael) of Tonganoxie, KS, Ryan Augustine of Hays, and Lindsay Bekemeyer (Matthew) of Washington, KS; as well as his cherished grandson, Eli Schartz, who brought him immense joy. Tim's siblings, Loretta Zerr (Elmer), Melvin Augustine (Becky) all of Salina, Dewayne "Dewey" Augustine (Pam), Kenneth "Luther" Augustine (Donna) all of Colby, Richard Augustine of Hays, Michael Augustine (Linda) of Ellis, Randy Augustine (Elaine) of Hays, Darrell Augustine, Leonard Jr. Augustine (Cheryl) all of Ellis, Kathy Stack (Rod) of Salina, and Mark Augustine (Noalee) of Hays as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Tim's passing leaves a significant void in the lives of those who knew him. He joins his parents in eternal rest, along with his sister-in-law Deanna Augustine and his nephew Eric Augustine. While his absence will be profoundly felt, his warm spirit and the values he instilled will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.

Tim's funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis, KS. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM with a combined parish vigil and rosary service at 7:00 PM all at the church.

Timothy Allen Augustine

Donald Duane Davidson “Jr.” or “Triple D” or “Dollars Davidson” as many affectionately called him, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Hays Medical Center.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Don was born on August 14, 1946, in Hamilton, Montana to Hugh Duane and Helen Margaret (Miller) Davidson.&nbsp; He spent his early childhood in Montana until the family moved to Idaho where he graduated from Leadore High School.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He then joined the US Air Force where he was a mechanic serving in Okinawa Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.&nbsp; Upon returning to the states he was stationed in Wichita, Kansas at McConnell Air Force Base.&nbsp; There he met and married Mary Jane (Knoll) and had two children.&nbsp; Mary Jane preceded him in death on December 28, 2018.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Don will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, generous, funny, and of course, stubborn man.&nbsp; The latter being passed down in staggering amounts (as his grandmother once told him, “You can always tell a Davidson, you just can’t tell them very much!).&nbsp; He was a jack of all trades, and master of many.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;He was an over the road truck driver for many years, (creating a larger than life impression on two little kids who loved riding in the truck).&nbsp; He then opened Davidson’s Road Service in Hays Kansas providing a wide range of automotive services, (and a lot of beer drinking and shop talk sessions).&nbsp; But he wasn’t done there, the US Postal Service was his next occupation.&nbsp; Neither rain, nor sleet, nor a herd of deer in the middle of the road could stop him from delivering the mail, (even hit one deer twice he claimed!).

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; To many, Don wasn’t a one in a million kind of man, he was a once in a lifetime genuine man among men.&nbsp; There was no end to his helpful and caring nature and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.&nbsp; It was nothing for him to be at his shop late into the night making sure a customer’s vehicle would be ready for them the next day, (to the point of falling asleep in his spaghetti!). We never let him live that one down!. He lived, he loved, and was loved by many.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Donald is survived by his son, William Davidson and wife, Kim, Wichita, KS; his &nbsp;daughter, Cheryl Chambers and Jim Pfaff, Gorham, KS; his half-brother, Steve Bauman and wife, Lisa, Corvallis, MT;&nbsp; his half-sisters, Connie Gartner and husband, Terry, Filer, ID; Sue Vukasin and husband, Steve, Great Falls, MT; Barbara Hitchcock and husband, Ron, Stockton, CA; his sister-in-law, Shirley Loyd and Charlie Feik, Logan, KS;

his grandchildren, Brandon Davidson; Casey Howell; Cydney Huxman and husband, Noah; Logan Chambers; and several nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Helen Davidson; his wife, Mary Jane Davidson; and his half-brother, John Bauman.&nbsp; We will miss him dearly.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 20, 2024, with Rev. &nbsp;Leland Eugene “Gene” Rothenberger, Christ’s loyal servant, 96, passed away from this world to salvation in Jesus on Sept. 6, 2024. He was born on July 21, 1928, in Osborne, to Irvin and Katherine(Humes) Rothenberger. Gene married Grace Eileen Kreft of Natoma on Nov. 20, 1949.

God blessed Gene “The Hydraulic Man” with the knowledge to be an engineer, becoming a highly respected heavy equipment operator and service manager. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; two daughters, Marcia Mitchell and Marla Atteberry; grandson, Kyle Kempton; great-grandson; his parents; brother, Gerald Rothenberger; two sisters, Barbara Jo Rothenberger and Jeanette Henry. 

Survivors include son, Steve Rothenberger (Deb) of Salina; three daughters, Joyce Kuntzsch (Jim) of Dorrance, Danna Allison (Jeff) of Great Bend, Kerry E. Rothenberger (Becky Turley) of South Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Roland “Uncle Red” Rothenberger of Minnesota; and companion and best friend, Lucille Blide of St. John.

Brenda Sue Krontz, 66, of Oakley died Monday, September 2, 2024, at Logan County Hospital in Oakley, KS, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 5, 1958, in Oakley, KS to Robert D. Schiltz Sr. and Pauline (Schoenberger) Schiltz. Brenda was the oldest of five children to this union.

Brenda was a homemaker. She enjoyed dancing in her younger years, playing cards, going to bingo at times, and loved babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. But most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Brenda married Robert E. Force Jr. on April 19, 1975, to this union five children were born: Terry Force, Jenny Corber, Jason Force, Jessica Force, and Michelle Force. She married Donald Heinrich on January 11, 1986, and to this union there were two children born: Tracy Woods and Travis Heinrich. She then married Mark Krontz on December 22, 1999. Brenda and Mark were married for 24 years.
