Barbara Faye King was born July 23, 1937, in the Little River, Kansas,&nbsp; hospital to Davis Edwin King, and Oneta Warburton King. She passed away
 February 12, 2022, at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 20 days, at 
Hilltop Lodge, Beloit, Kansas. 
 Barbara grew up in Salina, Hunter, and Ash Grove, Kansas where she 
met and married Harvey Standley in April of 1954. Barbara and Harvey had
 3 children, Sandra, Susan, and Danny. They were divorced. Barbara was
 working at Excel in Smith Center, where she met Orville Dean Macklin. 
They were married in June of 1974, and Barbara worked as a dispatcher 
for Smith County Sheriff Department, Smith County Hospital, and Smith 
County EMS. Dean had 6 children, Jean, Pat, Dean LeRoy, Duane, Frank, 
and Susie. They made their home in Smith Center. Orville Dean passed 
away in 1996, leaving Barbara a widow. When she met Verle Kuiken, she 
was working as a Home Health Aide for the Health Department. They 
married in 1999. They were able to travel from one coast to the other 
at different times, and met many new friends along the way. 
 Barbara enjoyed going to the Library in Lebanon, lunch at LaDows, 
and her Bible Study days. She loved entertaining in her home, and 
decorating for special occasions. She kept busy making quilts, t-shirt 
quilts, crocheting, tatting, and doing many other crafts. Shopping with
 her girlfriends every month was one of her favorite pastimes, and a 
great memory for her. She loved being with her family and kept her 
grandchildren frequently to give their parents a break. 
 In November 2019, Barbara started having trouble with a cough, and 
was diagnosed with pneumonia. After two months, she had not recovered, 
she was referred to a Pulmonologist in Salina. Barbara was diagnosed at
 that time with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Learning about this disease and 
working to keep healthy, she began to use supplemental oxygen. This did
 not deter her though, and she continued to take care of Verle in their 
home. In March of 2021, Barbara and Verle moved to Hilltop Assisted 
Living, Beloit, Kansas. Throughout the two years she fought the 
disease, she never wavered in the faith or confidence that God was with 
her, and was in control. 
 The last few weeks were difficult for her, with her breathing 
becoming harder. Verle passed away in December 2021. Last week, she was
 transferred to the Hilltop Lodge Nursing Facility under the care of 
Solomon Valley Hospice. 
 Barbara is preceeded in death by her parents, husband Orville Dean, 
step-daughter Patty, brother Frankie King, Sister-in-law Kathy King, and
 husband Verle.
 She is survived by her daughters Sandi (Eldon) Preuss of Stuttgart, 
Kansas; Susan (Dean) Macklin of Olivia, North Carolina; and son Danny

Barbara Faye Kuiken

Alvina (Becker) Mai, a resident of the 
Hays area for more than 60 years, was born on August 10, 1924, near Ft. 
Collins, CO and died at age 97 on Feb. 11, 2022, in Kansas City, Kansas.&nbsp;

Her parents were Gottfried and 
Katherine Elizabeth (Mehling) Becker, who were German-Russian 
immigrants.&nbsp; She grew up on the family farm near Timnath, CO, the 
youngest of seven children, and was proud of her heritage.

Alvina graduated from Timnath High 
School in May 1943, and then attended Barnes Business College in 
Denver.&nbsp; She graduated from Barnes in 1944, and took a position at 
Poudre Valley National Bank in Ft. Collins until 1948.

On August 27, 1948, Alvina married Paul
 R. Mai at Evangelical Lutheran &amp; Reformed Church in Ft. Collins, 
CO.&nbsp; The couple moved to Logan, Kansas, where they began their life 
together.&nbsp; To this union two children were born: Kenneth and Janet.

Paul, Alvina, and family moved to 
Stockton, KS, in 1954, and in 1956 they moved to Plainville, KS, where 
they lived for 51 years. They were active with First Lutheran Church of 
Plainville, and also enjoyed polka dancing, square dancing, and playing 
cards with friends.&nbsp; Alvina worked for Plainville State Bank from 1960 
to 1983.&nbsp; She and Paul moved to Hays, KS in 2007.&nbsp; There they were 
active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, and Alvina was part of the 
church quilting group.&nbsp;

In April of 2013, Alvina’s husband, 
Paul, passed away at age 95.&nbsp; They enjoyed 64 1/2 years of married life 
together.&nbsp; After living in Hays for an additional 7 years, Alvina moved 
to Kansas City, KS in November of 2020 to live with her son and his 
wife, and later moved to Providence Place Long Term Care in Kansas City,
 KS.&nbsp;

Alvina had a gentle spirit and a strong
 faith in God.&nbsp; She was kind-hearted and generous.&nbsp; She loved cooking 
for her family, often using old family recipes. &nbsp;She had many talents 
and hobbies that she enjoyed throughout her years, first and foremost 
quilting, and also crocheting, various crafts, and diamond painting.&nbsp;

Alvina always said that her favorite 
activity was spending time with her family. Being part of two large 
families, reunions were always a special time for her. &nbsp;She was warm and
 caring, and had many friends throughout her years. &nbsp;Alvina was 
well-loved, and will be missed greatly by her family. &nbsp;We are thankful 
for the many wonderful memories she gave us.

Survivors include: son Ken (Sandy) Mai 
of Kansas City, KS; daughter Janet (Pete) Ziegler of Streamwood, IL; two
 grand-daughters, April Mai of Overland Park, KS; and Angela (Chris) 
Bargiel of Las Vegas, NV; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of 
friends.

Alvina was preceded in death by her 
husband, Paul Mai; her parents, Gottfried and Katherine Becker; her 
brothers, Godfred ‘Scotty’ Becker and Dave Becker; her sisters Lydia 
Schildknecht, Mollie (Blehm) Thayer, Rachel Smithey, and Hannah Mai; and
 several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 11:15 am 
on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, 
followed by a luncheon in the church basement.&nbsp; The burial will be at 
9:30 am on Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Trego Center, KS.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:30 on Tuesday at Hays Memorial 
Chapel Funeral Home and from 10:45 am until service time on Wednesday at
 the church.&nbsp;

 Hill City &amp; Diane Phillips of Selden; 2 brothers, Roy of Logan 
&amp; Norman of Bogue; 3 sisters, Del Ary of Owasso, OK, Dee Beecher of 
Kansas City, MO &amp; Ila Mays of Logan; 16 grandchildren, 25 great 
grandchildren &amp; 2 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 10:30 a.m. in the 
Logan Christian Church with Pastor Troy Buss officiating.&nbsp; &nbsp;The service

Nancy J. Norton, 67, passed away February 12, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse.

She was born April 21, 1954, in Dodge City, the daughter of John E. and Margaret L Schweitzer Collins.

A lifetime area resident she was of the Christian faith. She worked 
for the Colorado Interstate Gas reading meters. She loved her family and
 animals. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and her flowers, 
plants and fish pond.

Survivors include: two sons, Greg Andrews Jr., Larned, Nick Norton, 
North Eastern Kansas; daughter, Tallusa (Michael) Minor, La Crosse; 
three sisters, Marty (Daryl) Dinkel, Garden City, Kelly (Joe Hoffman) 
Collins, Rozel, Virginia (Dale) Patterson, Garden City; brother, Mike 
Collins, Garden City; six grandchildren, Gavin Andrews, Jesicka Norton, 
Vanessa Flores, Bradon Lanigan, Avree Andrews, and Ryon Lanigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Collins.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Linda (Beaty) King, age 76, passed peacefully in Wichita, Kansas, on January 29, 2022. 
 Linda was born in Springfield, Missouri where she lived until 1949 
when she and her parents, Dr. Gene and Fran Beaty, moved to Manhattan 
for her dad to establish his dental practice. Linda graduated from 
Manhattan High School in 1963. She attended Colorado Women’s College for
 one year after receiving an honorary scholarship. She returned to 
Manhattan, completed a year at Kansas State University and became a 
member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Linda married Phil King in 1965. They 
initially made their home in Hays, Kansas while Phil attended Fort Hays 
State. Later they moved to Manhattan and then on to the Kansas City 
area. They had two sons, Aaron and Adam King. Phil and Linda were 
divorced in1994.
 Linda had an extensive career as a legal secretary including many 
years working in the Kansas City area. Some of her favorite pastimes 
included traveling, visiting historical sites, being in nature, 
decorating for the holidays and cheering loudly during KSU, Chiefs and 
Royals games. Linda greatly enjoyed attending her son's activities and 
sporting events. Later in life she treasured the time she spent 
babysitting her grandchildren who fondly called her “Gaga”. Linda’s 
family brought her such joy. She was a loving mother, grandmother, 
sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed.
 Linda was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Eugene (Gene) and 
Frances (Fran) Beaty and a stillborn brother. She is survived by her two
 sons, Aaron King of Kansas City, Missouri; Adam (Katie) King of

Alan M. Hanna

Alys Virginia Wangari was born August 14, 2017, in Olathe, KS to Denis 
and Angela (Fortin) Wangari. She passed away January 30, 2022, in Denver,
 CO at the age of 4.
 Alys attended the Oberlin Preschool. She loved to dance, walk, drum,
 and sign and sing her ABCs. Most of all, she loved playing with her 
family. Alys will be remembered for how strong, smart, and sassy she was
 and her contagious beautiful smile. 
 Alys is survived by her father, Denis Wangari; mother, Angela Fortin
 Wangari; brother, Walter Wangari, all of Oberlin and grandparents: Jack
 K. and Donna V. Fortin and Lucy Kirubi.

 </figure>Alys Virginia Wangari was born August 14, 2017, in Olathe, KS to Denis 
and Angela (Fortin) Wangari. She passed away January 30, 2022, in Denver,
 CO at the age of 4.
 Alys attended the Oberlin Preschool. She loved to dance, walk, drum,
 and sign and sing her ABCs. Most of all, she loved playing with her 
family. Alys will be remembered for how strong, smart, and sassy she was
 and her contagious beautiful smile. 
 Alys is survived by her father, Denis Wangari; mother, Angela Fortin
 Wangari; brother, Walter Wangari, all of Oberlin and grandparents: Jack
 K. and Donna V. Fortin and Lucy Kirubi.

Alys Virginia Wangari

Darrell D. Brensing, age 86, of Manhattan, went home to be with his LORD and Savior on February 9, 2022.
 Darrell was born September 23, 1935, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son 
of Jakie F. and Hulda H. Brensing of Hudson, Kansas. He was a resident 
of Manhattan since 1969.
 Darrell received his Associate of Arts Degree from Hutchinson 
Community College, his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ft. Hays State 
University, his Master of Arts degree from Pittsburg State University, 
and his Ph.D. from Kansas State University. He married Patricia L. 
Ginder of Stafford, Kansas on July 29, 1956. 
 Darrell began his professional career as an Industrial Arts teacher 
with the Hutchinson Public Schools in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1957. He 
later started the first Distributive Education Cooperative program in 
the Hutchinson Public School System and was recognized as the “Father of
 Vocational Education” in Hutchinson as he started numerous vocational 
education programs while employed there. 
 In 1969, Darrell was hired by the USD 383 school system as Director 
of the Manhattan Area Vocational Technical School, now known as 
Manhattan Area Technical College. He served in this capacity for 7 years
 and was credited with establishing numerous innovative programs for the
 school, recognized as one of the outstanding vocational technical 
schools in the nation. In January 1976, he took a break from the 
education field and entered the banking business, joining Walt and Alan 
Bell as Vice President of Citizens State Bank. His love of educating 
students caused him to return to the education field in 1977, when he 
joined the American Institute of Baking as director of education when 
the institute moved from Chicago to Manhattan. He was later promoted to
 Vice President of Education and enjoyed a 20-year career with AIB. In 
this capacity he spoke throughout the world on a variety of topics as 
well as to national and international trade organizations. His ability 
to design and develop innovative programs earned him the distinction of 
being recognized in Who’s Who in Kansas, Who’s Who in the Midwest, 
Outstanding Educators in America and Strathmore’s Who’s Who Registry of 
Business Leaders. 
 Darrell’s greatest satisfaction was assisting young men and women in
 gaining employment and seeing them succeed in a rewarding career. To 
assist them in obtaining gainful employment, he authored the book, 
“Marketing Yourself, Making the Most of What You’ve Got.” He dedicated 
this book to his grandchildren in case he wasn’t around to assist them 
in their job search when they needed his advice and counsel. 
 Darrell was an active member of the Manhattan Rotary Club, serving 
as president of the club in 1982-1983. He was named Rotary 
International Paul Harris Fellow in 1991. One of his greatest pleasures
 in Rotary was to start the Kansas State University Rotaract Club in 
1990 and served as their sponsor or co-sponsor until 2016. 
 Darrell was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church 
where he enjoyed participating with the “Old Geezers” group that 
performed various types of maintenance for the church properties. 
 Darrell also served as president of the Manhattan Country Club, 
president of the United Way of Riley County, was a member of the 
Manhattan Chamber of Commerce where he was named “Volunteer of the Year”
 in 1993, in addition to numerous trade organizations during his 
professional career. 
 Survivors include his wife Pat of Manhattan; son Doug Brensing and 
his wife Roxanne of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter Kelly Brensing White and 
her husband Tim of Manhattan; six grandchildren: Helane (Ben) Downey of 
Mission, KS; Brandon (Tess) Brensing of Olathe, KS; Tricia (Jeremy) 
Holliday of St. George; Jamey White of Manhattan; and Daniel (Laura) 
Bennison of Leawood, KS; eight great-grandchildren: Rylee and Emma 
Downey, Hudson Brensing, Dean, Jeremiah, and Addy Holliday; Brooke and 
Ann Bennison; sister-in-law Bev Vance; and many nieces, nephews and 
cousins.

Allen R. Cunningham, age 62, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away 
Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital. 
Allen was born in WaKeeney on December 28, 1959, to Samuel L. and Mary 
Jane (Aschenbrenner) Cunningham.

Allen graduated from the Kansas School for the Deaf in Olathe, 
Kansas, and went on to be an automotive mechanic. He greatly enjoyed 
traveling, metal detecting, golfing, coin collecting, and was an avid 
Kansas City Chiefs fan as well as KU Jayhawks basketball.

Allen is survived by his mother, Mary Jane; sisters Lori Mahagan of 
Castle Rock, Colorado, and Julie A. Cunningham (Joseph Lupomech) of North
 Platte, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his father Samuel, and 
twin infant siblings.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, 
February 14, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father 
Charles Steier as celebrant. Burial will then follow at the church 
cemetery.

Peter Anthony “Big Pete” Gonzales, age 28, of Hays, Kansas passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, in Hays. He was born April 16, 1993, in LaCrosse, Kansas to Arthur Larry Gonzales SR. and Delia Frausto Gonzales – Garcia. Peter enjoyed watching football and never missed a game. Peter was a huge fan of the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS. He enjoyed watching Monday night wrestling with dad. Any chance he got outside of family and work he spent time with his friends eating out and traveling. In elementary school Peter played for the Rush County Cats #67. In middle school he played for the LaCrosse Cubs #66 as a nose tackle on defense and played 2 years in High School for LaCrosse Leopards. In 2012 he graduated Lacrosse High School and took on the role of taking care of his dad after his mother passed away in March of 2012. Shortly after he moved to California where he worked at Crate &amp; Barrel in Tracy and lived with his sister Georgina and family in Manteca California. About a year later Peter and his dad moved back to Hays Kansas where Peter took on a Job at Sonic and became manager from 2013 - 2020. Later he took another position at Wendy’s in Hays as manager which was his last job. This is a crazy, hurtful world we live in full of sickness and sorrow. We wish there was a finger we could snap and change things. But we can’t. There is no magic button, no string to pull, and not a single verse in the bible that will change how we live our lives or how the universe runs its course. God has taken somebody from us. He was an angel in disguise. When our mother passed in 2012, he dropped everything he had planned in life to take care of our dad. Our brother was a hard worker like our parents and never gave up. He took on responsibility that wasn't his. He never stopped. When he needed help, he didn't ask, He figured a way to fix whatever the situation was. We are so proud of the person he became. This past Thanksgiving he met a lady that didn’t have funds to feed her family. My brother made it possible for her. He took her to Wal-Mart and told her to get everything she needed, and he would pay for it, no questions asked. At that moment is when we knew our parents raised a fine, well, respecting young man with a heart of gold that nobody could take away from him. But this new Era we live in did take it. This horrible disease we deal with today took our beloved brother. He tried to fight off this disease and just couldn’t, he got sick. Our brother went to sleep and didn't wake up. That is what this disease did to him. Our brother gave his life up to take care of his family. He never asked for help for anything. This has hit us at the wrong time of the year and unexpectedly. This Covid 19 disease isn't going away. But it’s taking our loved ones away from us. Peter was just 28 years old. He was born in a small town of LaCrosse Kansas. He played football in his middle school years and throughout his high school years at LaCrosse High Schooling wearing jersey #66. Peter loved sports and watching Monday night wrestling. His all-time favorite sport was football. Every Monday night Peter and our dad would cook dinner together and watch wrestling. Peter enjoyed going to the movies and hanging with his friends in his spare time. Our brother was one hard worker that never gave up. Rest in Peace my Big Baby Brother, my Kansas City Chiefs fan. Peter Anthony 'Big Pete' Gonzales

Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Christian, farm wife, nurse, 
home economics teacher, and foster parent — Burdett resident Billie Mae 
(Herndon) Thompson, 86, passed away on February 9. Born December 24, 
1935, in Halltown, Missouri, she was the daughter of William Howard and 
Lethia Pearl (Winfree) Herndon.&nbsp;

Billie met her husband John while in nurse's training in St. Louis. 
They married on Valentine’s Day 1959, so it’s fitting that they’re now 
reunited before their anniversary after 61 years of marriage. Even as a 
registered nurse, she spent much of her time as a farm wife as most farm
 wives do — making meals for the crew, driving grain trucks and 
tractors.

While raising two kids, she also worked as a nurse at St. Joseph 
Hospital in Larned for a few years and led education classes, ultimately
 inspiring her love of teaching. Billie eventually went on to achieve a 
bachelor of science from Fort Hays State University. The degree 
empowered her to teach Home Economics in Hanston while continuing to 
help on the farm. Once Billie’s two children were grown, she and John 
looked for new ways to serve together and helped raise foster children 
for several years.&nbsp;

Billie loved traveling, learning, and sharing her skills with others —
 spending hours and hours passing along meticulous sewing and baking 
tips to her granddaughters. She valued family and was proud of her 
grandchildren’s achievements.

Survivors include: a daughter, Robin (Bill) Niederee of Great Bend; a
 son, Marshall Thompson of Burdett; sisters, Ellen Reed of Friendship, 
Tennessee, and Joyce Roerig of Goose Creek, South Carolina; a brother, 
William Herndon of Mount Vernon, Missouri; two grandsons, Daniel 
(Heather) Thompson of Hanston and Dillon Thompson of Burdett; three 
granddaughters, Katlyn (Jonathan) Rosborough of Washington, D.C., 
Allison Niederee of Los Angeles, Sarah Niederee of Buffalo, New York; 
four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, William, and Annabeth Thompson, and 
James Rosborough.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Thompson; and sister Helen Smart of Republic, Missouri.

Pastor Doug Ellison of the Faith Fellowship Church (located 6.5 miles
 West of Burdett turn North ¼ mile) will preside over the memorial 
service in Hanston at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022. The 
service will be viewable via Facebook Live at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary">www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary</a>. Inurnment will follow at Brown’s Grove Cemetery, Burdett.

 </figure>1935-2022Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Christian, farm wife, nurse, 
home economics teacher, and foster parent — Burdett resident Billie Mae 
(Herndon) Thompson, 86, passed away on February 9. Born December 24, 
1935, in Halltown, Missouri, she was the daughter of William Howard and 
Lethia Pearl (Winfree) Herndon.&nbsp;Billie met her husband John while in nurse's training in St. Louis. 
They married on Valentine’s Day 1959, so it’s fitting that they’re now 
reunited before their anniversary after 61 years of marriage. Even as a 
registered nurse, she spent much of her time as a farm wife as most farm
 wives do — making meals for the crew, driving grain trucks and 
tractors.While raising two kids, she also worked as a nurse at St. Joseph 
Hospital in Larned for a few years and led education classes, ultimately
 inspiring her love of teaching. Billie eventually went on to achieve a 
bachelor of science from Fort Hays State University. The degree 
empowered her to teach Home Economics in Hanston while continuing to 
help on the farm. Once Billie’s two children were grown, she and John 
looked for new ways to serve together and helped raise foster children 
for several years.&nbsp;Billie loved traveling, learning, and sharing her skills with others —
 spending hours and hours passing along meticulous sewing and baking 
tips to her granddaughters. She valued family and was proud of her 
grandchildren’s achievements.Survivors include: a daughter, Robin (Bill) Niederee of Great Bend; a
 son, Marshall Thompson of Burdett; sisters, Ellen Reed of Friendship, 
Tennessee, and Joyce Roerig of Goose Creek, South Carolina; a brother, 
William Herndon of Mount Vernon, Missouri; two grandsons, Daniel 
(Heather) Thompson of Hanston and Dillon Thompson of Burdett; three 
granddaughters, Katlyn (Jonathan) Rosborough of Washington, D.C., 
Allison Niederee of Los Angeles, Sarah Niederee of Buffalo, New York; 
four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, William, and Annabeth Thompson, and 
James Rosborough.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Thompson; and sister Helen Smart of Republic, Missouri.Pastor Doug Ellison of the Faith Fellowship Church (located 6.5 miles
 West of Burdett turn North ¼ mile) will preside over the memorial 
service in Hanston at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022. The

Leonard J. “Lenny” Dinkel, 62, Hays, died Thursday, February 10, 2022, at his home.

He was born March 6, 1959, in WaKeeney, 
the son of Ralph and Rubina (Scheck) Dinkel.&nbsp; He grew up in Oakley and 
was a graduate of Oakley High School in 1977.&nbsp; On May 26, 1979, Lenny was
 united in marriage to Christine A. Hoover at Immaculate Conception 
Catholic Church in Grinnell.&nbsp; He worked in the oilfield and was 
production manager for Gore Oil Company.&nbsp; He was a member of Immaculate 
Heart of Mary Catholic Church and H.O.G., the Harley Owners Group.&nbsp; He 
proudly attended his grandson's sporting events, and enjoyed fishing, 
motorcycling, and driving his 2016 Challenger.&nbsp; He was an avid Kansas 
City Chiefs and NASCAR fan, who looked forward to attending the races 
with his wife in Kansas City twice a year.

Survivors include his wife Christine of
 Hays, two daughters: Krystal Randa and husband David of Hays and Kelsie
 Bausch and husband Trevor of Basehor, two brothers: David Dinkel and 
wife Linda of Olathe, and Richard Dinkel and wife Jan of Hays, a 
sister-in-law: Dina Dinkel of Oakley, grandchildren: Kenton Randa, 
Paisley Randa, Oliver Bausch, and one due in April, and numerous nieces 
and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Larry Dinkel.

11:00 am on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary 
Catholic Church with Fr. Elias Chinzara officiating.&nbsp; Private family

Jeanette Faye Taylor passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2022, in Garden 
City, Kansas surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 
20, 1938, in Garden City to Elmer and Eva "Mae" Blackwell Fletcher. 
She grew up on a farm in the small community of Marienthal, Kansas, 
where she attended grade school graduating as valedictorian of her 8th 
grade class, then graduating from Leoti High School in 1956. 
 On April 5, 1962, Jeanette married the love of her life, Dale 
Taylor. They moved to Garden City in 1967 where they raised their 
family. Jeanette worked as a bookkeeper at local pharmacies. She 
volunteered at St. Catherine Hospital, Fry Eye Clinic, and the Finney 
County Senior Center where she also spent many hours playing cards with 
the many friends she made there. Jeanette's favorite thing was 
spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had many great 
friends and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed. 
 Survivors include her children, Tina Roe (Bruce) of Goodland, 
Kansas, Brenda (Robert) Short, Macon, MO, and Alisa (Steve) Emick of 
Garden City, Kansas, 5 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. 
 Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 
Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City at 10:00 AM with graveside service 
immediately following. Burial will be at Scott County Cemetery in

Jeanette Faye Taylor

Yvonne Robbins, 82, passed away February 7th, 2022, 
peacefully at her home in Olathe, surrounded by her loving family. 
Yvonne was born in Kinsley, KS, on July 17, 1939.&nbsp; She spent her 
childhood growing up in central Kansas and always had an appreciation 
and love of the prairieland, the hard-working people of this area and 
the educational opportunities for young people.&nbsp; She married William Rex
 “WR” Robbins in Kinsley, KS, on October 20th, 1957, and to 
this union, they were blessed with three children – Karesa, Penny and 
Monte.&nbsp; Yvonne was a devoted mother and grandmother and a supportive 
wife.

Yvonne devoted her energy to business, educational and philanthropic 
initiatives over the years. She assisted her husband as they worked 
together in growing Farmers Bank and Trust, a community bank located in 
central and eastern Kansas. She was instrumental in developing programs 
at Farmers Bank which offered travel and benefits for customers. Yvonne 
established educational scholarships at Barton Community College, Dodge 
City Community College and Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; She focused on 
opportunities to enhance the community through her work with nonprofit 
organizations and church affiliations.&nbsp; In addition, Yvonne enjoyed 
working alongside her husband in his efforts while President of the 
Kansas Bankers Association and created many friendships along the way.

She was particularly devoted to her children and grandchildren, 
supporting all of them in numerous academic opportunities, athletic 
activities, business endeavors, music and the arts and military 
service.&nbsp; Her consistent kind and gentle demeanor was always a bright 
light in her interactions with others.&nbsp; Although impacted by Alzheimer’s
 in her later years, it was important for her to use her time left to 
support and connect with her family.

Yvonne is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, WR Robbins of 
the home; her children, Karesa Harrison, Penny Kirk and Monte Robbins; 
and grandchildren, Chadd Harrison, Hunter Harrison, Garrett Kirk, Taylor
 Kirk, Nicole Robbins and Will Robbins.

A celebration of life for Yvonne will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15th,
 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, KS, with Reverend
 Tim Bever presiding.&nbsp; Visitation with the family will take place at 
1:00 p.m. at the church prior to services.&nbsp; Interment will be in the 
Great Bend Cemetery.&nbsp; 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests 
contributions be made in Yvonne’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association,
 in care of Bryant Funeral Home. The family extends their appreciation 
to friends and caregivers who cared so lovingly for Yvonne during her 
journey with Alzheimer’s.&nbsp;

Bobby Lee “B.L.” Schulz, 97, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Brookdale Senior Living in Hays, Kansas.

B.L. was born July 29, 1924, in Greensburg, Kansas.&nbsp; The son of Robert Emmet and Fanny Maude (Hunsley) Schulz.&nbsp; He grew up in Greensburg and graduated from Greensburg High School, where he lettered in all sports and music.&nbsp; He played on the 41/42 Kansas University Jayhawks basketball team and pledged Kappa Sigma. He maintained lifelong ties with friends he made that year. He then served his country in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; During World War II, he was stationed in Europe with the Grave Registration unit.&nbsp; B.L. received medical training and his Bachelors degree while on active duty at Washington-Jefferson College in Pennsylvania. While there he continued playing basketball and participated in the NIT Tournament before shipping overseas. He was stationed in England before being sent to a hospital in France and later being assigned to Graves Registration in France and Luxembourg. While in Luxembourg, he oversaw the burial of Gen. George&nbsp; S. Patton. When he returned to the United States, he used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Kansas City Dental School graduating with a degree in Dentistry. His Father and Uncle were also alumni of the school.

B.L. was united in marriage to Lorraine “Larri” Lewis on April 8, 1951, at his parent’s home in Greensburg.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children; Don, Diane, Dean, and Dana.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell, Kansas, where he practiced dentistry for over forty years.&nbsp; He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell, a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, the Russell American Legion Post #99, 75-year member of the Russell Masonic Lodge #177, Isis Shrine, Russell Elks Lodge, and Russell Kiwanis Club.&nbsp; He also was active in the Arbor Foundation and the Russell Tree Board. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, and singing in his leisure time.

B.L.’s surviving family includes his daughter, Diane Schulz of Washington, D.C.; two sons, R.Dean Schulz (Sue) of Hays, Kansas, and Dana Schulz (Barbara) of Cody, Wyoming; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

B.L. was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Lorraine on March 13, 2014; son Don Schulz; three brothers, Vern Dean Schulz, Billy Gene Schulz, and an infant brother Robert.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Thomas W. Fisher, 67, passed away February 9, 2022, at his home in Mount Hope, KS.

He was born March 9, 1954, in Seneca, Kansas, the son of C. Lee and 
Mervine L. Flynn Fisher. He was a Heating and Air Conditioning 
Technician.&nbsp; He lived in Larned for 35 years, then moved to Mount Hope 
in 2019.&nbsp;

He was a member of Church of Christ and a volunteer fire fighter, 
both in Larned and later became a member of the Church of Christ in 
Wichita.&nbsp; Tom and Janice were foster parents together for twenty years.&nbsp;
 He enjoyed fishing, camping and fixing things.

On April 16, 1977, he married Janice Ellen Beamer in Larned.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Derek Thaine Fisher, Mount Hope, 
Matthew Thomas (Elizabeth) Fisher, Larned; two daughters, Leigha Janell 
(Keith Heron) Fisher, Wichita, Tarah Mervine (Alex) Hopkins, Larned; two
 brothers, Robert Fisher, Bloomington, IL, John Fisher, Aspen, CO; 
sister, Patti DiSomma, Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Jenna Fisher, 
Sarah Fisher, Grace Fisher, Emmet Fisher, Emily Heron, Haley Heron, 
Laila Heron and Emma Hopkins.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. 
Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Mr. Jimmie

Ann S. Schremmer, 97, passed away February 8, 2022, at Country Place 
Senior Living, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born on November 27, 1924 in 
rural Odin, Kansas, to Ferdinand &amp; Anna (Kirmer) Zorn. She married 
Anton Schremmer on June 4, 1945 at Odin, Kansas. He died on October 2, 
1990.

Ann was a resident of Beaver and Hoisington, Kansas. She graduated 
from Holy Family School in Odin and worked as a clerk at Duckwalls and 
Banner in Hoisington. Ann was a member of St. John The Evangelist 
Catholic Church of Hoisington and the Altar Society at St. John and St. 
Joseph of Beaver.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Sharla) Schremmer and Doug (Kayla)
 Schremmer, both of Hoisington, Kansas; a daughter, Judy (Leon) Oberle 
of Claflin, Kansas; a sister, Helen Holiday of Inman, Kansas; a brother,
 Gerald (Loretta) Zorn of Great Bend, Kansas; nine grandchildren; 
nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three
 sisters-in-law, Emily, Bernice, and Lea Zorn. She was preceded in death
 by her husband; four sisters, Margaret, Marion, Tillie, and Eleanor; 
and six brothers, Frank, Leonard, Bernard, Alvin, Elmer, and Richard 
Zorn.

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 11, 2022, from 9:00 
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home and starting at 4:00

Lydia Jeanette Watkins Bundgard, 39, who passed away on Feb. 7, 2022, in 
Oberlin. KS, was born April 29, 1982, in Minneapolis, MN, the only child 
of Melvin Watkins and Margaret Lee. She was baptized at St. David's 
Episcopal Church by Fr. Ronald Bauer in Minnetonka Mills, MN and 
received her 1st Communion at Incarnation Catholic Church in 
Minneapolis. 

A 2000 graduate of South High in Minneapolis, she attended 
Minneapolis Community and Technical College while working at Bachman's 
Garden Center. In 2008, before applying to the International Culinary 
Institute in Minneapolis, she married Master Sgt/E7 Jeremy Bundgard, Air
 National Guard, stationed at Ft. Snelling, Minneapolis. Three children 
were born to them: Henry, now age 13, Jacob, age 8 and Olivia age 6. 
Lydia was a homemaker who enjoyed live popular music concerts and the 
culinary arts. She and her family were members of the Minnesota Zoo 
where they enjoyed frequent outings. A former Girl Scout and organ 
donor, she will be missed for her sparky sense of humor, her intellect, 
and the warmth and love she shared with family and friends.
 She was preceded in death by grandparents Henry and Jeanette Clayton
 Brown of Minneapolis. She is survived by her parents, Melvin and 
Margaret (Lee) Watkins and half-sister, Shantina (Watkins) Allen 
Benjamin; husband Jeremy Bundgard and 3 children; maternal aunt Ann 
Brown and husband Stephen Hollick; cousin Joan Hollick; and best friend 
Emmy TeGantvoort, all of Minneapolis. 
 A Memorial Service in Oberlin will be held at 2 pm, Friday the 11th

Isabell F. “Issie” Bonebrake, 94, died Friday, February 4, 2022, at her 
home in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 14, 1927, in Garden 
City, Kansas the eighth child of Frank Fredrick &amp; Matilda (Kunz) 
Schmale. 
 Issie grew up in Garden City where she attended Garden City schools
 and graduated from Garden City High School in 1945. On March 30, 1947,
 she married Carl Bonebrake in Garden City, Kansas. They lived in 
Elgin, Illinois, from 1948 to 1949. They moved to Colby, Kansas, for a 
couple of years before moving to Dighton, Kansas, in 1951. After 10 
years in Dighton, they moved to Garden City in 1961 where they have 
lived since. Isabell was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in 
Garden City where she sang for years in the choir. She was a charter 
member of the Sweet Adeline’s where she and her sister-in-law sang in 
the quartet the Highs and Lows. Isabell and Carl were also charter 
members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Dighton. 
 Isabell was an excellent seamstress and custom make drapery for 38 
years for sister Pia’s interior design business. The altar clothes were
 some of her hand work. Isabell was also a huge help to her sister 
Dorothy when she needed assistance at her restaurant the Luau Inn. 
 Survivors include a son Dr. Alan Bonebrake and wife Donna of 
Dallas, Texas; a daughter Karen and husband Dr. Dee Rupp of Garden City,
 Kansas; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law 
Marilyn Schmale of Garden City. Isabell is preceded In death by her 
husband Carl who died on February 28, 2016. She is also preceded in 
death by her parents; 6 sisters Helen Schmale, Roberta Schmale, Lydia 
Schmale, Edna Lanam, Ruth “Pia” Maupin, &amp; Dorothy Schmale; 2 
brothers Albert Schmale and Frank Schmale; and a grandson Jordan Daniel.

Mark was born on May 15, 1960, in Hays, Kansas, to Felix and Elsie (Jacobs) Stegman. He attended Washington Grade School, Kennedy Middle School, Thomas More Prep High School (1978) and NCK Technical College, earning his degree in Restaurant Management.&nbsp; Mark worked his entire career in the restaurant/food industry and enjoyed his many friendships shared with those he worked with. He was a very family-oriented person who held a deep love and pride for his large family. Leo Arlan Sample, 80, passed away on February 5, 2022, in Hoxie, Ks. He was born April 9, 1941, to Benjamin Leslie Sample and Dorothy (Epler) Sample. Leo was raised along with his four siblings in the Tasco and Studley areas of Sheridan County. Leo graduated from Sheridan Community High School in 1958. He was in the Army July 1961 through April 1963. 
 Leo married Eileen Dicks at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hoxie, Ks on September 12, 1964. They had two daughters, Debra and Dianne. Leo worked for the Sheridan County Road Department, Hoxie Redi Mix,
 and Hoxie Grade School as well as some farming. Leo will forever be remembered for his hard work and love for his granddaughters, Jenna and Kayla. His crossword puzzle and mental math skills were admired, and his family will always remember the good times playing cards and marbles.
 Leo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lyle Sample and Leon Sample, and sister Doris Jean Rachau.
 Leo is survived by wife Eileen Sample; daughters: Deb Micek (Tim) and Dianne Wyrick (Mike). grandchildren: Jenna Wyrick (Tyler Samuelson) and Kayla Wyrick; sister: Donna McClain; sister-in-law Barb Sample; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and relatives.

Leo Arlan Sample

Minnie L. Bisbee, 98, was a longtime Great Bend resident having 
recently moved to Park West Plaza, Wichita, Kansas, where she passed 
away on February 2, 2022. She was born on December 29, 1923, at Bixby, 
Oklahoma, to W.F. &amp; Neddie (Parker) James. Minnie married Walter 
"Jim" James Bisbee December 6, 1941 at Mena, Arkansas.&nbsp; He died July 2, 
2004.

Minnie retired from Dillon’s Bakery but never retired from baking 
delicious rolls, desserts, and candies for her family and friends. In 
her spare time, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts which included 
woodworking, crocheting, and quilting. Minnie was an exceptional 
seamstress and excelled in creating her own patterns. She made numerous 
prom gowns from pictures in magazines.

She is survived by daughter, Karen Webb of McMinnville, Tennessee; 
granddaughter, Cindy Freeman, and daughter-in-law Linda Bisbee, both of 
Wichita; sister-in-law, Katherine Bisbee of Mena, Arkansas; and several 
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter 
“Jim”; her son, Jim; a son-in-law, Al Webb; her parents; and all eight 
of her siblings.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, 
February 17, 2022, with a private family visitation 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 
p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 
a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Great Bend Cemetery with Reverend 
Tim Bever presiding.

nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter 
“Jim”; her son, Jim; a son-in-law, Al Webb; her parents; and all eight 
of her siblings.Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, 
February 17, 2022, with a private family visitation 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 
p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 
a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Great Bend Cemetery with Reverend 
Tim Bever presiding. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer 
Society or Great Bend Meals on Wheels, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Minnie L. Bisbee

Mary Kathleen "Kathy" McCammond, 75, passed away on February 6, 2022,&nbsp; at the Downs Care and Rehabilitation Center in Downs, Kansas.&nbsp; She was 
born on June 12, 1946, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and 
Martina (Rohr) Munsch.

Kathy worked as a CNA at the Ness County Hospital and Long-Term Care 
for over 40 years retiring in 2012. She worked her whole life taking 
care of other people and spreading love and joy to those around her. She
 found joy in making others smile and laugh by dressing up as Elvis, 
Santa Claus, and singing to the patients she cared for. She truly loved 
everyone she met and never knew a stranger. She was member of Sacred 
Heart Church and volunteered within the community, American Legion 
Auxiliary, and Sacred Heart School.

Survivors include 2 sons, Eric (Jenny Fox) McCammond of Las Vegas, 
NV, Mark McCammond of Hutchinson; 3 daughters, Lisa Ward of Edmond, OK, 
Michelle Koehler of Concordia, KS, Jennifer (Joshua) Bowles of Downs, 
KS; 2 brothers, Stanley (Bernus) Munsch of Hays, Ken (Dolly) Munsch of 
Loveland, CO; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Terri Dann and Lisa 
Holmes.

Parish Vigil will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on 
Friday, February 11, 2022, at 6:30 P.M. Funeral service will be on 
Saturday, February 12, 2022, 10:30 A.M., at the Sacred Heart Church, 
Ness City followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Viewing will 
be at the funeral home on Friday from noon until service time and at the
 church from 9:30 A.M. until service time.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart School.

Goodland, KS resident and former Oakley, KS resident Leanna VanDonge,
 64, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the 
Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.

Leanna was born on November 3, 1957, in Quinter, KS to Leonard and 
Pauline (Heinrich) Ribordy.&nbsp; She was one of six children.&nbsp; She attended 
school in Oakley, and graduated from Oakley High School in 1975.&nbsp; She 
later attended Northwest Kansas Technical College for a short time.

Leanna’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren, and going to watch them play sports.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister Sheila Ribordy.

She is survived by her daughters Emily Tinkler (Butch Smith) of 
Goodland, KS and Tracy Braun of Hays, KS. She is also survived by one 
brother Keith (Michele) Ribordy of Oakley, KS; four sisters, Loretta 
(Fred) Teeter of Oakley, KS, Connie (Kim) Jonely of West Jordan, UT, 
Donita (Everett) Harper of Lenexa, KS and Kristy (Glenn) Sears of 
Howells, NE; five grandchildren, Dru Keen, Ellie Keen, Jace Keen, Colton
 Braun and Weston Braun.

Her wish was to be cremated, and no services to be held at this time.

Koons-Russell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
