Leo W. Keller, 97, of Oakley, died Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Logan 
County Senior Living, Oakley. He was born on August 1, 1923, near Mingo,
 KS to David &amp; Sophia (Bush) Keller. He was the 2nd of the 8 
children: Rebecca, Les, Ben, Ruthie, Esther, Daniel and Mary. He was 
raised on a family farm, milking cows, feeding cows and doing regular 
farm work. He attended grade school at the Mingo school until the 8th 
grade, when he was required to quit, due to the health of his dad. 


On April 4, 1944, he married Wanda Nell Curry, in Oakley, KS. To this 
union of 32 years, 4 children were born: Leotta Ranell, Shirley Darnell,
 Fontella Jean, and William Jr. “J.R.”


In January of 1944, Leo was drafted into the Army and served the 76th 
Infantry Division, 417 Regiment 3rd Army and was sent to Germany to 
fight in WWII. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and was under 
fire by the Germans and shared cover under a bridge with General Patton.
 His division crossed the Rhine River, fighting toward Frankfort and 
Berlin. He was in Kimnitsch, Germany when the war was declared over. He 
was headed to Japan, but the war ended when the U.S. dropped the bomb on
 Hiroshima. He was sent back to the US. on the Queen Mary and arrived 
back in the states on December 9, 1945. Leo received an Honorable 
Discharge for service to his country. 


After returning from the war, he and Wanda purchased a farm west of Page
 City. Leo partnered with his brothers, Les and Ben, and operated as the
 Keller Brothers in the farming and cattle industries. In 1956, they 
bought the Oakley Livestock Commission Co. and Leo owned and operated it
 until 1973. During this time Leo also operated Keller Cattle Co. and 
continued to be a bonded livestock dealer, buying cattle for several 
different ranchers and big feedlots until 1985. 


In 1967, Leo acquired the headquarters ranch of Foster Lumber Co.’s 
farmstead, north of Bretton. Leo raised cows and calves for 44 years and
 sold his last herd in 2011. His business adventures also led him to 
invest in a land development on the slope of Colorado, in 1971, and it 
has grown into a living community. Among Leo’s greatest pleasures were 
coyote hunting with a pack of dogs, pheasant and quail hunting, and any 
card games that included gambling. 


Leo was baptized and became a member of the Oakley United Methodist 
Church. He was an active member of the Oakley Country Club, Oakley 
Ranger Riders, the VFW and the Hoxie Elks. He served as an officer and 
President of the Kansas Livestock Auction Association and was a member 
of the National Livestock Association.


On November 2, 1977, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Hills, from Colby, KS.
 They had a home in Loghill Village, CO, while maintain a home in 
Oakley. Betty’s children, Craig and Anita Hills, Doug and Junelle Hills 
and Rhonda and Gary Holstein joined the Keller family. Leo had 8 
grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. 
Betty’s family added another 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
 


Preceding Leo in death were his parents; wives, Wanda and Betty, son 
J.R. sons-in-law, Jim Heskett, Dick Carman and David Fant; grandson, Dr.
 Layne Lunsway, grandson-in-law, Rick Patrick; step-son, Doug Hills and 
his siblings, Rebecca, Les, Ben, Ruthie, Daniel and Mary. 


He will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors include 3 
daughters, Ranell (Lile) Lunsway, of Manhattan, KS, Darnel (Mel) 
Holopirek, of Maize, KS, and Foni Fant, of Plainville, KS; his sister, 
Esther Bedore, of Colby; grandchildren, Lance (Denise) Lunsway, of 
Atlanta, GA, Linc (Summer) Lunsway, of Manhattan, KS, Terra (Alan) Zerr,
 of Stillwater, OK, Jemelle Ebers, of Wichita, KS, Lander (Kary) 
Holopirek, of Wamego, KS, Thonda Patrick, of Hays, KS and Ty (Heather) 
Jennings, of Montrose, CO; great grandchildren, Alexis, Breanna, 
Caitlin, Janessa, Jordan, Steele, Shaye, Stratten, Delayney and Shaylee;
 great-great grandchildren, Amelia, Amiya and Amari and all the families
 merged by his marriage to Betty. 


Private family burial will take place in the Oakley City Cemetery.

Leo W. Keller

Melissa “Missy” Ann Finnesy passed away on October 3, 2020, at the 
Redbud Village in Plainville, KS, at the age of 60. She was born on 
September 7, 1960, in Plainville to Donald Joseph and Eva Marie (Mayhew) 
Finnesy.
 Missy grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High 
School in 1980. She worked in housekeeping at Redbud Village for many 
years. She was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and
 was inducted into the Special Olympics Hall of Fame in 1986. Although 
Missy was disabled, she was always “with it” and participated in many 
things from basketball and cheerleading, to dancing. Always with an 
ear-to-ear smile, she knew no stranger. She loved all her “boyfriends” –
 even though they were married! She loved birthdays and loved receiving 
cards. Just as much though, she loved sending cards and never forgot 
everyone’s birthday.
 The Apostle Paul said, “Let us throw off everything that hinders, 
and run with perseverance, the race marked out for us.” Missy was a good
 woman with a good heart who lived life with determination and 
perseverance and enjoyed the ride with family, friends, and loved ones. 
She taught us all how to be true winners. Never one to let anything get 
in her way, she beat us to the finish line, but we look forward to 
rejoining her one day when we all get together in the winner’s circle.
 Left to survive Missy are her brothers, D.J. Finnesy and wife Norma 
of Plainville and Doug Finnesy and wife Cathy of Boise, ID; sister 
Janice Cole and husband Rick of Wichita; and nieces and nephews, Loni

burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will 
be Thursday 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a Vigil and Rosary at 5:30 
P.M. at the funeral home in Plainville.

Melissa Ann 'Missy' Finnesy

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged sexual assault and have a registered Kansas sex offender in custody.

Just after 7 p.m. Sept. 22, police were dispatched to a sexual assault case in the 800 block of South Sylvan in Wichita, according to officer Paul Cruz.

Upon arrival, a 48-year-old female victim, told police she was walking in the area of Lincoln and Oliver when a suspect later identified as 34-year-old Darrius Johnson approached and grabbed her, forcing her into his Toyota Camry.

Johnson drove the victim to a separate location and sexually assaulted her. Johnson then drove the victim back to Lincoln and Oliver where she was released. Through the investigation and examination of evidence, Johnson was determined to have been involved in the attack. 

On Sunday, police reported they arrested Johnson October 1, in the 2100 block of South White Oak without incident.&nbsp; He is being held on requested charges of rape and aggravated kidnapping, according to Cruz.

Johnson has a previous felony conviction in 2010 for attempted aggravated sexual battery where victim is overcome by force or fear, according to the KBI offender registry.

At the time of his arrest, Johnson was out on bond for a separate alleged sex crime., according to Cruz.

Linda Jean Sterba was born July 22, 1958, in Belleville, KS. She was the
 fourth child of Glenn and Francis Sterba. She died October 4, 2020, at 
Stormont Vail Hospital Topeka, KS.
 Linda attended school at Belleville, KS and Brown Mackie in Salina, KS. She was an administrative assistant.
 Linda was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Fern Sterba and sister Donna Pelsor.
 She is survived by sisters Carol Montgomery of Smith Center, KS and 
Judith Holmin of Englewood, CO; stepsister Melissa (Bryan) Sahlfeld of 
Wichita, KS; stepbrother Edward (Amy) Dunensing of Tecumseh, KS; close 
friends Diane Kessler of Topeka, KS and Cotti of Hays, KS as well as 
numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucille M. Kuhn, age 87, of Victoria, 
Kansas, died Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born December 30, 1932, in Plainville, Kansas, to Adam 
R. and Mary F. (McMullen) Stahl.&nbsp; She married Alfred L. “Al” Kuhn on 
June 16, 1955, at Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on 
February 22, 2018.

She was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife
 on their farm North of Victoria.&nbsp; She cared for her four grandchildren 
before they entered school.&nbsp; She was&nbsp; a member of The Basilica of St. 
Fidelis.&nbsp; Lucille grew up in Plainville and was a graduate of Plainville
 High School.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Leon Kuhn 
and wife, Colleen, Victoria, KS; Norbert Kuhn, of the home; two 
daughters, Donna Kuhn, of the home, Diane Unrein and husband, Curtis, 
Victoria, KS; four grandchildren, Dylan Kuhn and Heather; Nathan Kuhn; 
Kelton Unrein and Marissa; Logan Unrein and Lacey Nuss; one great 
grandchild, Maverick Kuhn; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Joe Stahl and Alfred Stahl.&nbsp;

Lucille M. Kuhn

Micaela (Mickey) A. Perez, 86, passed away October 3, 2020 at The 
University of Kansas Heath Systems, Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned.

She was born January 22, 1934 in Dodge City, Kansas; the daughter of 
Domingo and Angela Espinoza Gonzales.&nbsp; A longtime resident of Larned; 
she was a CNA at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned.

On December 2, 1962 she married Janero J. Perez in Dodge City.&nbsp; He passed away June 10, 1982.

Survivors include; two sons, Tim, Hutchinson and Troy, Jetmore; a 
daughter, Gina Perez, Larned; three brothers, Pete Gonzales, Albert 
(Pino) Gonzales, both of Dodge City, Julian Gonzales, Wichita; six 
grandchildren, Angela Pounds, Adam Perez, Deavin Perez, Sydney Perez, 
Bryce Perez and Taylor Grover and four great grandchildren, Serenity 
Perez, Cayden Shaver, Hagen Kennon and Kobin Kennon.

She was preceded in death by; a son, Rick Perez, four brothers, Frank
 Gonzales, Lenard Gonzales, Manuel Gonzales and Edward (Lalo) Gonzales 
and four sisters, Frances Ontverberos, Esther Ontieboros, Angelita 
Gonzales and Rene Gonzales.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic 
Church, Larned with Father Bernard Felix presiding.&nbsp; Vigil service and 
rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary chapel, Larned.&nbsp;

Janet Lee Mehling, age 68, of Goodland, died on October 2nd at the Topside Manor in Goodland, Kansas.&nbsp; She is at peace after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. &nbsp;

Janet was born on April 19, 1952 in Goodland to Lowell and Alberta (Kling) Harding.&nbsp; She was raised on the Harding farm Northeast of Goodland and had many good memories of growing up on the farm.&nbsp; Janet was the younger sister by two years and shared that Dianna was the best older sister she could have ever had.&nbsp; Janet wrote that in high school she and her sister spent a lot of time dragging main.&nbsp; Many times they would stop at the corner garage and put 50 cents worth of gas in so that their dad wouldn’t know how much gas they had used, later to find out it was really the number of miles they were putting on the car that he was watching. &nbsp; Janet loved to share her stories and her life with her family.

Following graduation from Goodland High School, she attended Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina.&nbsp; She returned to Goodland and married Randal Gausman.&nbsp; They were later divorced.&nbsp; Scott and Crystal were the blessings from this union.&nbsp; In 1989, Janet married Bill Mehling and they recently celebrated 31 years of Marriage.&nbsp; Janet dedicated her entire 40-year career to First National Bank in Goodland where she served as Senior Vice President &amp; CFO.&nbsp; She was a member and former President of PEO ID.&nbsp; Janet had an infectious laugh and loved to do things for others to make them feel special.&nbsp; She was a great support to her family and was always ready to listen and help however she could.&nbsp; She loved Husker football, spending time with family, and watching movies.&nbsp; Movies received as Christmas presents always had a note stating they had already been inspected, by a member of Santa’s team.&nbsp; Janet left this earth too soon, but leaves a legacy of love for her children and grandchildren.

Janet Lee (Harding) Mehling

Gregory Alan Cundiff was born October 22, 1960, to Donald and Peggy 
(Fuller) Cundiff. He passed away on Oct. 4, 2020, at the Decatur County 
Hospital in Oberlin. Though he has passed from this life, he is yet 
alive in Christ Jesus his Lord.


Greg was a 1978 graduate of the Sharon Springs High School. After 
graduation, he entered the Army and later was a member of the Kansas 
Army Nation Guard, Det 2 (Colby) until 1984. He studied carpentry and 
plumbing at the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland. On March
 25, 1989, Greg married Janice May in Oberlin, KS. He was a member of 
St. John’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion Honor Guard in 
Oberlin. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and fishing and he 
was a Denver Broncos and St. Louis Cardinals fan. 


Greg was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Richard 
Cundiff; two nephews; one niece and one great nephew. He is survived by 
his wife, Janice of Oberlin; sons, Jeffery Burkhead and Quintin 
(Lindsay) Cundiff; grandchildren, Carter and Joshua Cundiff; siblings: 
Vicky (Glenn) Case, Randy (Stacy) Cundiff, and Robin (Eric) McCoy; 
half-brother, Trampus (Heddy) Francis; step-brother, Todd Francis;

KANSAS CITY (AP) — A lab's approval to start testing samples of marijuana means that commercial marijuana for medical use could be on the shelves in Missouri this month.

EKG Labs in Maryland Heights on Sept. 26 became the first of 10 licensed medical marijuana testers to start operations after passing a state inspection.

As a result, marijuana being grown by commercial cultivators may undergo state-required testing for safety and potency. Once approved, it can be sold at dispensaries.

EKG's director of operations, Natalie Brown, said testing could begin in the upcoming week.

“We’re hopeful that there will be product on the shelves and dispensaries by early- to mid-October for the patients,” Brown said.

Missouri voters in 2018 approved medical marijuana. As of Tuesday, five commercial growers and six dispensaries had passed inspections from the state health department to start growing and selling pot legally. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services administers the state's medical marijuana program.

Missouri has issued 60 licenses to grow marijuana, 86 to make marijuana-infused products and 192 to open dispensaries, but the vast majority of businesses are still setting up and working through state regulations.

Still, just knowing that testing will be available as soon as the marijuana is grown and ready to be packaged and sold is a relief to business owners, said Susan Griffith, president of CAMP Cannabis, which stands for Certified Alternative Medicine Providers.

CAMP expects to undergo its last inspection in December and start planting marijuana early next year, Griffith said. The company hopes to sell to dispensaries by spring.

“As soon as we’re approved we are prepared to get plants in the ground immediately,” Griffith said.

Demand could be high: Up to 70,000 Missourians have state permits to legally use medical marijuana.

They may not all need dispensaries. At least 17,517 qualified card-holders were also approved to grow a limited amount of marijuana at home, under strict regulations.

Medical marijuana in Missouri could be available this month

Frances Mae Boxberger, 85, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Main Street Manor in Russell.

Frances was born on January 08, 1935, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of William F. and Ida Caroline (Nuss) Boxberger.  She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1953. After high school, Frances graduated from Ft. Hays State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  She lived her entire life in Russell and worked as a legal secretary for Woelk, Cully, and Cole Law Firm in Russell.  Her interests included visiting with friends and family, enjoying chocolate chip cookies, and membership at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.  

Surviving family includes her nephew Patrick Combs and wife Anne-Marie, their adult children John Patrick and Diana Frances, and brother in-law Ronald H. Combs all of Georgetown, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Ida, brother, Paul William, sister Mary Jane Combs, nephew Michael Scott Combs and an infant sister.

The family will arrange a private burial and service.  A public memorial service may take place at a later date.  Memorials can be sent to the mortuary and given to Main Street Manor Nursing Care Team to honor the outstanding care and concern given to Frances and her family.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral and memorial service arrangements.

Dorothy M. Hopper, 98, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, October 02, 2020, at the Main Street Manor in Russell.

Dorothy was born on September 21, 1922, in Dorrance, Kansas, the daughter of William G. and Amelia (Woelk) Teppe.  She was raised on the family farm in Dorrance and graduated from Dorrance High School in the class of 1940.  After high school she attended Ft. Hays State University.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to James David Hopper, Jr. on February 16, 1943, in Hays, Kansas.  From this union Dorothy and James were blessed with 6 children James III, William, Becky, Tom, Mike and Tim.  With 6 children to raise, Dorothy worked very hard as a homemaker, wife and mother.  Dorothy loved to travel and spend time with her family, she especially enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughter Becky Vogt and sons Tom Hopper and wife Carol, Mike Hopper and wife Beth and Tim Hopper and wife Laura, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James who passed away on April 09, 2016, and sons James D. Hopper III and Bill Zack Hopper.

Dorothy M. Hopper

Kirwin resident Helen E. Miller Cannon passed away Saturday, 
October 3, 2020, at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, at the 
age of 97.

She was born June 18, 1923, in Sayre, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edgar V. and Merle Elizabeth (Addis) McCamon.

Survivors include her daughter Betty Still and husband Robert of 
rural Kirwin, KS; her son Ray Miller and wife Lorene of Claremore, OK; 5
 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; a 
brother Bill McCamon and wife Joan of Amarillot, TX; and a sister Sue 
Weaver and husband Joe of Garden City, KS.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the
 Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Michael 
Ricci-Roberts officiating.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 in 
the Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, OK.&nbsp; Arrangements for graveside services 
will be by the Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, OK.

Mrs. Miller Cannon will lie in state Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.

Wilda Maxine Smith, 96, died October 3,
 2020 at Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born May 17, 1924 to Corwin and 
Mable (Roberts) Smith on a farm in Gove County, Kansas, one of 10&nbsp; children.&nbsp; 

During WWII, though she had just graduated from high school 
and had no teacher training, she was pressed into teaching, including 
one year in the one-room school where she had been a student.&nbsp; After the
 war, Wilda completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history at 
Fort Hays Kansas State College.&nbsp; Her master’s thesis was “The Struggle 
for Woman Suffrage in Kansas."&nbsp; She taught history at Hays High School 
from 1953-1957.&nbsp; Her Ph.D. in history was earned at the University of 
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.&nbsp; Wilda taught history at Fort Hays State 
University for 26 years, serving as chairperson of the History 
Department for five years.

Wilda served on the Kansas Committee 
for the Humanities, the Coordinating Council of the National Women’s 
Studies Association, the Executive Committee of the Kansas Council for 
Social Studies, and the Board of Directors of the Kansas State 
Historical Society.

The biography of a native Kansan, The 
Wars of Peggy Hull: The Life and Times of a War Correspondent, which she
 co-authored with Eleanor Bogart, received the C.L. Sonnichhsen Book 
Award from Texas Western Press.

Wilda was preceded in death by her 
parents, long time companion Eleanor Bogart, sister Vivian Beougher and 
brothers Marion, Raymond, Kenneth, Carl, Francis, Don, Darrell and 
Corwin, Jr.&nbsp; She is survived by a sister-in-law, Marita Smith of 
Broomfield, CO, Norma and Quentin Bogart, Mesa, AZ, and numerous nieces 
and nephews.

Because of the coronavirus, there will be a family graveside service.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to Fort Hays State University.

Wilda Maxine Smith

Lonnie F. Morgan, age 73, of Hays, KS passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at HaysMed – Hays.

He was born July 31, 1947 in La Crosse, 
KS to Friend E. and Velma (Scheuerman) Morgan.&nbsp; He grew up in Alexander,
 KS and graduated from Alexander High School in 1965 then attended Hutch 
Junior College on a basketball scholarship.

Lonnie’s hobbies included spending time
 with his sons and grandkids, together with hunting, fishing, golfing, 
playing softball and bowling.

He owned and operated Morgan Appliance Service.&nbsp; He organized bus trips to Grand Island, NE for horse races for 36 years.

Lonnie met and married Therese M. Klaus on May 8, 1982 in Hays, KS.

He is survived by his wife, Therese. 
Sons:&nbsp; Steven (Jolene) Morgan of LaCrosse; Heath (Michelle) Morgan of 
Lacrosse; Brothers: Larry Morgan of Alexander; Lance ‘Bub’ (Gloria) 
Morgan of Alexander; Layne (Kerri) Morgan of McCracken; Sisters: Leanne 
(Wade) Russell of St. John; Lorrie (Bill) Frank of Axtell; 
grandchildren: Taylor, Hunter, and Madison, together with numerous 
nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws: George and Eileen Klaus; Sisters: Linda (Robert) Bott, and LaRetta Fitzwater.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, 
October 6, 2020 at 10 AM at Brock’s Keithley Funeral Chapel and 
Crematory, 2509 Vine Street, Hays, KS 67601. Visitations will be Monday,
 October 5, 2020 from 5 PM to 7 PM and Tuesday from 9 AM to service time
 all at the Funeral Chapel.

Interment will be Tuesday at 2 PM in the Alexander Cemetery.

Lonnie F. Morgan

Doyle Leon Post passed away on October 2, 2020 at the Redbud Village in 
Plainville, KS, at the age of 94. He was born on July 3, 1926 in 
Woodston, KS to James Owen and Malena Afi (Gregory) Post. Doyle married 
Lauretta Weldon on June 30, 1946 in Natoma, KS. They were blessed with 
three children: Cecelia, Linda, and Gary. Lauretta passed away in 1967 
and on August 12, 1977, Doyle married Ruth Adeline Swindler in Russell, 
KS to which 7 step-children were added to his family. Doyle and Ruth 
were together until she passed away in 2008.


Doyle grew up in Woodston and graduated from Woodston High School 
with the Class of 1944. He started off farming but then moved to 
Plainville and worked at a filling station where he taught himself how 
to work on cars. He then owned and operated Post Repair and Service from
 1971 to 1996. His career ended with 15 years at Farm Implement where he
 continued small engine repair until he was 88 years old. Doyle was a 
member of the Odd Fellow Lodge.


A hardworking man, Doyle could always be found working on something.
 While never letting anything stand in his way, he strived for 
perfection in all that he did, and knew how to have fun and enjoy life 
along the way. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will serve as 
an inspiration to those who knew him… always do what you love, and 
always love what you do.


Doyle is survived by his daughters, Cecelia Anissy of Olathe, KS and
 Linda Gilbert of Plainville; son, Gary L. Post of Wichita; brothers, 
Edson Post and wife Madonna of Wichita and Charles Post and wife Patti 
of Concordia, KS; step-children, Tom Hodges, Terry Hodges, Dean Poe, 
Cheryl Baldwin, Sandy Odle, Tammy Robertson, and Angel Fasulo; two 
grandchildren, Tirazheh Anissy and Tanya Dunn; and three 
great-grandchildren, Ethan Anissy, and Kian &amp; Kylar Lamer.


Preceding Doyle in death are his parents, James and Malena Post; 
wives, Lauretta and Ruth; brothers, James, Emery, and Delmar Post, and 
an infant brother; sister, Vola Collins; grandson, Darren Gilbert; and 
sons-in-law, Jack Gilbert and Nasser Anissy.


A graveside service and interment will be held on Tuesday, October 
6, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at the Plainville Cemetery in Plainville, KS. 
Visitation will be Monday, 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home
 in Plainville.

Mary Murphy, 74, passed away September 28, 2020, at Wellstar Cobb 
Hospice, Smyrna, Ga. She was born on April 4, 1946, at Hoisington, to 
Fidel and Isebell (Yvarra) Torrez. She married Thomas Michael Murphy 
October 28, 1968, at Fairbury, Neb.&nbsp; He died October 17, 2016.

A current resident of Smyrna, Ga., Mary previously lived in Great 
Bend for many years. Mary was a long time Great Bend Public Library 
employee, serving as the children's director, later working for 
Sunflower Early Education Center and CKMC in Great Bend, as well as 
Wellstar Cobb Hospice in Georgia. She was a member of Prince of Peace 
Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Survivors include, a son, Chad Murphy and wife Angela of Sterling; 
and son in law, Chris Dickson of Smyrna, Ga.; four grandchildren, 
Brittany Williams, Claire Dickson, Michael Murphy, and Caleb Murphy; and
 four great grandchildren, Kami Williams, Treacyn Williams, Anaceliya 
Murphy, and Gentry Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her
 husband, Thomas Michael Murphy; and a daughter, Carrie Dickson.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, 
October 8, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Alice (Geist) Fisher, 87, Hays, died Friday, October 2, 2020 at HaysMed.

She was born April 1, 1933 in Ellis, 
the daughter of Nick and Lidwina (Kuhn) Geist.&nbsp; On May 3, 1955 she was 
united in marriage to Cyril Fisher at St. Joseph Church in Hays, and 
they celebrated 65 years of marriage.&nbsp; She worked at St. Anthony 
Hospital, Duckwalls, and Dillons before moving to Phillipsburg in 
December 1958, where she and Cyril owned and operated C &amp; A 
Floor Covering Store.&nbsp; They worked side-by-side until their retirement 
in November 1995.&nbsp; &nbsp;In February 2003, they moved back to Hays to a 
retirement home.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband Cyril of 
Hays, a sister; Albertina Rohleder and husband Val of Abilene, and many 
loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, a brother; Alfred Geist, and three sisters; Irene Windholz, 
Alberta Pfannenstiel, and Melinda Lang.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church,

Alice (Geist) Fisher

Norton resident Elden Dale Sprague was born on February 24, 1927 to 
Earl and Hattie (Williamson) Sprague in Norton County, KS.&nbsp; He passed 
away at the Andbe Home in Norton on September 30, 2020, at the age of 
93.

&nbsp;He attended schools in Norton County and graduated from Almena High 
School.&nbsp; Elden joined the Navy on March 6, 1945 and remained until July 
8, 1946—the close of World War II.&nbsp; After his discharge, he attended 
Radio School in Texas.&nbsp; He then opened a radio and TV repair shop in 
Almena.&nbsp;

He married Lila Troutner on February 1, 1962.&nbsp; They later divorced.&nbsp; In 1967, he married Melba Farrand.&nbsp; They divorced in 1983.

Following the close of his repair shop, he opened a craft shop that

with Boy Scouts, where he was a scout leader.&nbsp; He enjoyed building and 
flying model airplanes.&nbsp; He was an extremely talented painter.&nbsp; He 
painted beautiful landscapes on any object that you could think of, from
 milk cans to saw blades, to kitchen knives and bricks.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Hattie Sprague and a brother Arlo.

Elden is survived by his three brothers, Olin of Norton, KS, Gary of 
DeKalb, IL, Lynn of Redfield, AR; a sister, June Keiswetter of Norton, 
KS; and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Almena, with Pastor Ron Martin officiating.

Mr. Sprague will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Norton resident Elden Dale Sprague was born on February 24, 1927 to 
Earl and Hattie (Williamson) Sprague in Norton County, KS.&nbsp; He passed 
away at the Andbe Home in Norton on September 30, 2020, at the age of 
93.&nbsp;He attended schools in Norton County and graduated from Almena High 
School.&nbsp; Elden joined the Navy on March 6, 1945 and remained until July 
8, 1946—the close of World War II.&nbsp; After his discharge, he attended 
Radio School in Texas.&nbsp; He then opened a radio and TV repair shop in 
Almena.&nbsp;He married Lila Troutner on February 1, 1962.&nbsp; They later divorced.&nbsp; In 1967, he married Melba Farrand.&nbsp; They divorced in 1983.Following the close of his repair shop, he opened a craft shop that

Don R. Younger, age 71, of Ellis, 
Kansas passed away October 1, 2020 at Hays Medical Center. Don was born 
April 9, 1949 in Hays, Kansas to Michael and Seraphine (Bieker) Younger.
 He graduated in 1967 from Ellis High School. On July 8, 1967 he married
 Rita (Boos) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. They were married 
for 53 years.

Don was a Master Electrician and owned 
Don’s Electric &amp; Rewind in Ellis over 30 years. He was a long-time 
member of the Ellis Golf Club, a saxophonist as a member of the Younger 
Band and other various bands without being able to read a note. Don and 
Rita also farmed part-time for over 45 years on the family farm south of
 Ellis, and it was one of his greatest joys.&nbsp; He also enjoyed playing 
cards, playing golf and family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife Rita of 
Ellis; three sons, Donnie (Wanda) Younger, Bobby (Toni) Younger and 
Aaron (Jennifer) Younger all of Ellis; a sister, Lillian Reynolds of 
Sunrise Beach, Missouri; grandsons, Gage, Landon,&nbsp;Bryce, Cale and Mason 
Younger, granddaughter Aspen Younger along with his loving and faithful 
pet German Shepard, Mac.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, brothers, Walter, John, Bill, Michael and Robert as well as 
sisters, Evelyn, Edna and Viola.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM 
Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at St. Mary’s catholic Church in Ellis. 
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Fr. Dana Clark will be 
officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday 6 PM – 8 PM 
with a combined Knights of Columbus rosary and parish vigil at 7 PM all 
at St. Mary’s Church.

Howard Michael “Mike” Boys, 72, passed away June 4, 2020, at Via 
Christi St. Francis, Wichita. He was born on April 15, 1948,at 
Shelbyville, Ill to Richard and Nixie (Smith) Boys. He married Jolene 
Sellens on March 8, 1969, at Hoisington. She survives.

A current Great Bend resident, Mike was an insurance agent for 25 
years. He was a graduate of Hoisington High School and attended 
Pittsburgh State University.

Survivors include, his wife, Jolene Boys of the home; two sons, 
Gregory Boys of Great Bend, and Christopher Boys and wife Dalila of 
Dodge City; two sisters, Sandra Daughtery and husband Larry of Russell, 
and Terry Perry and husband Rick of Benton; and three grandchildren, 
Caleb, Conner, and Camila. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, 
October 3, 2020, at Heartland Community Church with Pastor Arlyn 
Thielenhaus and Pastor Tom Swain presiding. Memorials are suggested to

Betty L. Schneweis, 88, died October 2, 2020, in Odin, Kansas. She 
was born November 30, 1931, in Pawnee Rock, Kansas, the daughter of 
William and Ina (Fry) Dooling. Betty attended Larned High School.

She was married to Charles Edward Walker from 1951 to 1971. She then 
married Arthur F. Schneweis on November 19, 1971, in St. John, Kansas.

Betty and her husband Art were both self employed telephone 
contractors. They were both very patriotic and would always be at the 
veteran’s services, where she would often assist with the playing of 
taps.

Betty was a member of the Church of Christ in Great Bend. For a time 
she lived in Texas where she was a member of the Horticulture Club and 
would judge floral shows. She was very artistic and a good seamstress. 
Betty was also an avid animal lover, she loved all animals and 
especially doted on her fur babies.

Survivors include; her husband of nearly 49 years, Arthur F. 
Schneweis; son, Bruce Walker; daughters, Pat Anderson and husband Andy, 
and Lynnda Kirbow and husband Jeff; and three great grandchildren, 
Nathan, Heaven, and Brent.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Walker; 
infant son, Dereck John Walker, and granddaughter, Krystle Leigh.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, with family to receive 
friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10 
a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Church of Christ, Great Bend, with 
Carl Feril presiding. Burial will follow in Larned Cemetery.
