Mary Murphy, 74, passed away September 28, 2020, at Wellstar Cobb Hospice, Smyrna, Ga. She was born on April 4, 1946, at Hoisington, to Fidel and Isebell (Yvarra) Torrez. She married Thomas Michael Murphy October 28, 1968, at Fairbury, Neb. He died October 17, 2016.
A current resident of Smyrna, Ga., Mary previously lived in Great Bend for many years. Mary was a long time Great Bend Public Library employee, serving as the children's director, later working for Sunflower Early Education Center and CKMC in Great Bend, as well as Wellstar Cobb Hospice in Georgia. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Survivors include, a son, Chad Murphy and wife Angela of Sterling; and son in law, Chris Dickson of Smyrna, Ga.; four grandchildren, Brittany Williams, Claire Dickson, Michael Murphy, and Caleb Murphy; and four great grandchildren, Kami Williams, Treacyn Williams, Anaceliya Murphy, and Gentry Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Michael Murphy; and a daughter, Carrie Dickson.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2020, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
