This is the first of two consecutive weekend trips to the same location for the Tigers. up wins in both games for Oklahoma Christian, while Kali Crandall who is
 just a sophomore this year had 10 strikeouts in the Game 2 start. FHSU 
had just 7 hits in the doubleheader from 6 different players, led by <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5349">Grace Philop</a>
 with 2. FHSU is still looking for its first-ever win over Oklahoma 
Christian, entering at 0-7 in the all-time series. Oklahoma Christian 
played in the South Central Regional of the NCAA Division II National 
Tournament last year, reaching the championship round against Texas 
A&amp;M-Kingsville, the region's No. 1 seed. Kingsville went on to reach
 the national championship best-of-3 series, falling two games to one to
 Augustana (S.D.).

- Fort Hays State and St. Edward's last met during the 2018 season in San Antonio, Texas. Lubbock, Texas by a score of 4-1. DeAnna Barrera of CSC threw a complete
 game against FHSU, striking out seven without an earned run allowed.

 neutral site contest against the Cougars last year at Broncho Softball

second straight year. The teams played a neutral site doubleheader at 
Tom Heath Field last year. Oklahoma Baptist swept that doubleheader by 
scores of 12-4 and 11-8. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5346">Megan Jamison</a>
 saw the majority of work in the pitching circle in game one, throwing 4
 innings of relief. Chapman and Nelson will be looking for redemption 
this year against OBU as Chapman allowed 11 runs in 3.2 innings and 
Nelson allowed 5 runs in 2.2 innings during last year's doubleheader. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5341">Sara Breckbill</a>
 had a 4-hit day in the doubleheader for the Tigers. Katie Long was the 
winning pitcher for OBU in both games, throwing the final 9.2 innings of
 the day with 6 runs allowed to earn a relief win in Game 1 and a 
complete game win in Game 2. Long is a junior this year. FHSU is 1-3 
all-time against Oklahoma Baptist.


- Fort Hays State's 4-1 start is the best 5-game start for the program 
since the 2014 season, which also posted the same mark in the first five
 games of the season. The 2014 team started 7-1 and was 8-2 through the 
first 10 games of the season.

 leads the team in batting average for players with at least 10 at bats.

 was right behind her at a .400 clip, going 6-of-15 at the dish. The 
pair of Tiger newcomers combined for 13 RBIs last week, while remaining

 posted a .556 batting average with 5 hits in 9 at bats. Four of the 
five hits were in games where she entered as a pinch hitter. Beggs is 
slugging .889 with three of her five hits being doubles. All three 
players have an on-base percentage of .500 or better.

run in the win over New Mexico Highlands, the first homer in her 
four-year career at FHSU.

 hit a grand slam in the 14-10 season-opening win over UC-Colorado 
Springs. It was the first grand slam by a Tiger since March 26, 2017.

- Pitchers <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>
 both have strong strikeouts per 7 innings pitched rates through one 
weekend of play. Nelson averaged 10.3 strikeouts per seven innings last 
week, while Chapman averaged 8.1. Nelson posted 11 strikeouts in the win
 over Southern Nazarene, her career high as a Tiger. However, elevated 
WHIP (walks+hits/innings pitched) rates led to a team ERA of 4.94 
through five games. Nelson has a WHIP of 1.53, while Chapman is at 2.02.
 Five of the 16 walks, along with one hit batter, issued between the two
 last weekend turned into runs for the opposition. The pair is limiting 
extra-base damage by the opposition to just 19 percent as eight of the 
42 hits allowed went for extra bases.

FHSU softball team prepares for five-game weekend in Okla.

The Fort Hays State baseball team returns to action this weekend when the Tigers host New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series. 
The teams will battle in a single game on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. 
before a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday. The series will wrap
 up with a noon finale on Sunday.


The Tigers are 5-3 on the year, while the Cowboys have yet to play a game this season.


Fort Hays State is 52-25 all-time against New Mexico Highlands, 
including a 27-10 record in Hays. The former RMAC rivals have renewed 
the series in non-conference play each of the last four years, with the 
Tigers holding a slim 7-6 lead in the series since 2016. Highlands took 
all four games of the series last year in Las Vegas, N.M. The Cowboys 
have not won a game in Hays since 2006. FHSU has never lost a series 
against the Cowboys in Hays.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Fort Hays State used balanced scoring and
some timely three-point shooting in the second half to beat Central Missouri
65-50 Thursday at the Multipurpose Building. The Tigers (12-11, 5-9 MIAA) won
their fifth straight and move into ninth-place in the conference standings.&nbsp;The top 10 teams advance to next month’s MIAA Tournament in Kansas City.

It's the Tigers first road win in conference play and their first win on the road since November 17th when they knocked of UC-Colorado Springs.

The Tigers used a 10-0 run to turn a seven-point first half
deficit into a three-point lead at 22-19. A 14-4 run helped them extend their
two-point halftime lead to 12.

After the Mules closed the gap to five, Perry Carroll hit
back-to-back threes to push the lead back to double-figures with 8:53 to play.
UCM (9-14, 4-10 MIAA) would never get closer than eight the rest of the way.

The Tigers shot 56-percent in the second half and 46-percent
for the game. They hit seven of their 10 three-pointers after halftime and
finished 10-fo-22 from beyond the arc.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Jared Vitztum, Calvin
Harrington, Perry Carroll and Jake Hutchings who all scored 11 points. Devin
Davis added eight and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds.

The Lopers capped off the evening with a 4-2 decision at 149 pounds and a pin at 157 pounds.

22nd-ranked FHSU wrestling falls to No. 3 Lopers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – After battling back from a couple of
double-digit deficits, the Fort Hays State women were held scoreless over the
final 2:03 and fall 76-69 to No. 24 Central Missouri Thursday night at the
Multipurpose Building. The conference leading Jennies (19-4, 13-1 MIAA) closed
the game on a 9-0 run, seven of them on free throws.

The Tigers (17-6, 8-6 MIAA, who have lost two straight, trailed
by 11 at the end of the first quarter. They scored the first 12 points of the
second quarter to go up 22-21 with 4:26 to play in the half.

Down three at halftime, FHSU quickly fell behind by 10 early
in the third, but a 9-0 run closed the gap to one at 41-40. Neither team would
lead by more than five the rest of the way.

Taylor Rolfs, who got into early foul trouble and only
played 14 minutes, hit a layup to tie the game at 47-47 with four minutes to
play. It would be the Tigers last field goal. FHSU hit a couple of free throws
to go up 69-67 with 2:03 and would not score again.

The Tigers came into the game with the second fewest
turnovers in the country but finished with 18. 

The Tigers had their worst shooting fourth quarter of the season, hitting only three of their 14 shots and finished 36-percent for the game which included 6-for-20 from beyond the arc.

The Jennies, who had 22 turnovers, shot 45-percent from the floor
and were 6-of-19 from three and 24-of-30 from the foul line.

Five players scored in double figures for the Tigers, led by Hobbs' 16 points. The junior added five assists, four rebounds and one steal. Randall tallied 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals, with Bergmann chipping in 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mittie contributed 11 points, with Barbieri picking up 10 points and two blocks.

Morgan Flemming scored a season-high 29 to lead the Jennies.
Fellow senior Megan Skaggs scored 23.

Fort Hays State Men's Basketball carries a four-game win streak into 
Thursday's contest at Central Missouri. This will be the only 
meeting in the regular season between the teams for a fourth straight 
year, and third straight year that the meeting is in Warrensburg. Game 
time is 7:30 pm, which follows the women's contest at 5:30 pm.

Tigers look to extend win streak at Central Missouri on Thursday

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team faces off with a ranked 
opponent for the third time this season on Thursday when the 
Tigers travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to battle 24th-ranked Central 
Missouri. Both the Tigers (17-5, 8-5 MIAA) and Jennies (18-4, 12-1 MIAA)
 are looking to bounce back after losing their most recent game on

 MIAA Championship Tournament inside historic Municipal Auditorium in

After defeating Central Missouri twice last season, the Tigers have 
narrowed the gap in the all-time series to 15-14 in favor of UCM. Fort 
Hays State is 4-8 in Warrensburg, including a win in the most recent 
road game last season. The Tigers have won seven of the last nine 
meetings going back to the 2014-15 season. Head coach <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=884">Tony Hobson</a> is 12-10 against the Jennies, including a 3-5 mark on the road.

The Tigers won their first MIAA&nbsp;Championship tournament with a 63-56 win
 over the Jennies last season in Kansas City (3/10/19). FHSU scored on

Central Missouri is coming off its first conference loss of the season 
after a 15-game winning streak was snapped at Missouri Western last 
weekend. The Jennies remain one game clear of anyone else in the MIAA 
standings and have secured a spot in the MIAA Championship. UCM is a 
perfect 10-0 at home this season, defeating opponents by an average of 
17.9 points inside the Multi. Megan Skaggs leads the team with 16.2 
points per night, fourth-most in the MIAA. Morgan Fleming (14.8 ppg, 
8th) and Nija Collier (14.1 ppg, 12th) are also among the top dozen 
scorers in the league. Collier leads the conference with 9.5 rebounds

A win Thursday would clinch Fort Hays State's ninth-straight trip to the
 MIAA Championship Tournament inside historic Municipal Auditorium in 
Kansas City, Mo. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/news/2020/1/30/womens-basketball-2020-miaa-basketball-championship-tickets-on-sale-now.aspx">Tiger fans can purchase</a> discounted tickets to the conference championship now at the athletics office!
After defeating Central Missouri twice last season, the Tigers have 
narrowed the gap in the all-time series to 15-14 in favor of UCM. Fort 
Hays State is 4-8 in Warrensburg, including a win in the most recent 
road game last season. The Tigers have won seven of the last nine 
meetings going back to the 2014-15 season. Head coach <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=884">Tony Hobson</a> is 12-10 against the Jennies, including a 3-5 mark on the road.
The Tigers won their first MIAA&nbsp;Championship tournament with a 63-56 win
 over the Jennies last season in Kansas City (3/10/19). FHSU scored on 
its first eight possessions and never looked back. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5438">Taylor Rolfs</a> led the way with 17 points.
This is the third year in a row that the Tigers have traveled to 
Warrensburg to play UCM in the regular season. Only three players on the

The 22nd-ranked Fort Hays State wrestling team wraps up its regular 
season home schedule Thursday when the Tigers host No. 3 
Nebraska-Kearney. Action on the mat is slated to begin at 7 p.m. inside 
Gross Memorial Coliseum.

The Tigers will recognize the four seniors on this year's roster with a 
Senior Night ceremony before the dual begins. This year's senior class 
includes <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5381">Brandon Ball</a>, <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5384">Dy'Juan Carney</a>, <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5386">Conrad Cole</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5388">Jordan Davis</a>.


The Tigers carry a 5-5 dual record into Thursday, including a 1-1 mark 
in the MIAA. The third-ranked Lopers are 12-6 on the year and 2-1 in 
conference action.


Ball is wrapping up his fifth year as a Tiger. The two-time All-American
 has racked up 126 wins over the last five years and his winning 
percentage of 85.7 percent is the best mark in program history.


Carney has been with the Tigers for three seasons, accumulating 31 wins 
on the mat. The Tallahassee, Fla. native took home third place at this 
year's Bob Smith Open. He has earned both the NWCA All-Academic honors 
and has been listed on the MIAA Academic Honor roll.


Cole is in his fourth year at Fort Hays State. The Brush, Colo. native 
has won 49 matches as a Tiger, including a third-place finish at the 
2018 MIAA Championship Tournament. He was runner-up at this year's Bob 
Smith Open and twice finished third at the Kansas Cup. Cole has been 
listed on the MIAA&nbsp;Academic Honor Roll three times and earned D2WCA and 
NWCA All-Academic Team honors.


Davis has been with the Tigers for five years, racking up 49 wins on the
 mat, including a 17-8 mark this season. He was named MIAA Wrestler of 
the week earlier this year after a runner-up finish in the Elite 285 
bracket at the Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open in his hometown of St. Louis, 
Mo.


Nebraska-Kearney has five wrestlers ranked wrestlers in its lineup, 
including four in the top five of their respective weight class.Josh 
Portillo is the top-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds and comes into the 
week 22-7 on the year. Matt Malcom&nbsp;(26-7) ranks second at 165 pounds, 
Wesley Dawkins (22-9) is fourth at 133 pounds, Jarrod Hinrichs&nbsp;(15-4) 
comes in fifth at 285 pounds and Jonathan Killingsworth (20-6) is ranked
 11th at 141 pounds.


The Tigers are 26-41 all-time against UNK, with the last win coming at the end of the 2000-01 season.


While Thursday is the final regular season home contest for the Tigers, 
Fort Hays State will wrestle at home once more this season when it hosts
 the 2020 NCAA DII Super Region IV Championships on Sunday, March 1. 
Wrestlers from 11 schools will be competing for 30 spots (three per 
weight class) in the NCAA Division II National Championships.

FHSU wrestling hosts No. 3 Lopers for Senior Night on Thursday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Devon Dotson scored 15 points and No. 3
Kansas finished the game with a 9-0 run to beat No. 14 West Virginia 58-49. 

The Jayhawks won for the ninth straight time and remain a
game behind first-place Baylor in the Big 12. 

Isaiah Moss had seven of his 13 points after halftime for
Kansas. 

West Virginia fell flat after leading by as many as nine
points in each half and lost at home for the first time this season. 

Oscar Tshiebwe led the Mountaineers with 14 points and nine

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -&nbsp;Yor Anei scored 15 and had seven rebounds, Lindy Waters III added 12 points and Oklahoma State beat Kansas State 64-59. 

 Jonathan Laurent had 11 points and Cameron McGriff provided 10 as the Cowboys picked up their first win against Kansas State since 2017 and now sit in a tie for ninth place in the conference with the Wildcats. 

Mike McGuirl led Kansas State with a season-high 16 points. It was the first conference road win of the season for Oklahoma State.

Hays High scored in single figures in each of the four quarter Tuesday night in Great Bend falling 35-20.&nbsp; The twenty points marked the fewest points scored by the Indians this season on their lowest shooting percentage of the season.&nbsp;

The Indians tied the game at three a piece on a Carly Lang three pointer and then took their only lead at 5-3 on a Aleyia Ruder coast-to-coast layup.&nbsp;

Hays High scored just three points over the remaining 11:15 of the first half and Great Bend took a 19-8 lead into halftime.

Great Bend hit a three pointer to open the second half before the Indians scored five straight points to get within nine at 24-13.&nbsp; Hays had the ball down nine but turned it over and was never within single digits rest of the night.

Hays falls to 4-11 on the year and 1-4 in Western Athletic Conference play.&nbsp; Great Bend improves to 4-12 and 1-4.

Hays made more field goals, grabbed more rebounds and shot a higher percentage that Great Bend.&nbsp; Those stats though didn't add up to a victory on the road Tuesday night as Great Bend wins 60-56.&nbsp; The Panthers made 14 of 16 free throws while Hays made just 7 of 15.

The Panthers also made ten three pointers compared to the Indians six.

The Indians never led in the WAC battle and was never closer than 11-9 in the first quarter.&nbsp; The Indians closed a nine point second quarter gap down to four in the second quarter but did not score over the final three minutes of the quarter and trailed 26-20 at halftime.

FHSU women's basketball receiving votes in latest coaches poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After defeating a nationally ranked wrestler in his 
only action of the week, Fort Hays State wrestling senior <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5381">Brandon Ball</a>
 was named the MIAA Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday. The Great
 Bend native is the third Tiger wrestler to earn the honor this 
season.


Ball, the No. 2-ranked wrestler in Division II at 141 pounds, stayed 
perfect on the season with a 6-0 decision over No. 8 Pete Kuster of 
Drury. The win helped propel the Tigers to a 33-13 win over the Panthers
 on Friday (Feb. 7). Ball is now 12-0 on the season and 126-21 in his 
storied career at FHSU.


It is the third time Ball has earned the weekly conference award. He was
 also named league wrestler of the week after the Bob Smith Open during 
his sophomore (12/5/17) and junior seasons (12/4/18).

Ball joins <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5388">Jordan Davis</a> and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5387">A.J. Cooper</a>
 as recipients of the award during the 2019-20 season. Davis and Cooper

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Basketball released rosters for training camps from which the 2020 USA Basketball Men's and Women's 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament Teams will be determined. Among the 16 men competing for a spot on the team is former FHSU Men's Basketball standout Dominique Jones. Training will take place Feb. 13-14 at the Pullman Community Center in Chicago, Illinois.

From the pool of 16, the USA Basketball 3x3 player selection committee will name four men to represent USA Basketball at the 2020 FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, March 18-22 in Bengaluru, India. The top three finishing men's and women's 3x3 teams will earn berths into the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games 3x3 basketball competition. As per FIBA regulations, all teams taking part in the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament must include at least two athletes who are ranked among the federation's top 10 FIBA 3x3 athletes. Jones is currently the No. 1 ranked player from the United States in the FIBA 3x3 World Rankings, while holding a world ranking of No. 9.

Jones has enjoyed a tremendous professional career on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour. He currently holds the No. 1 national ranking in the FIBA points system for players from the United States on the World Tour, and sits among the top 10 players in the world. Jones has helped his 3x3 team from New York/Harlem to several team titles in FIBA World Tour tournaments over the past few years.

Jones was a two-year standout player at Fort Hays State, helping the Tigers to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2009-10 and 2010-11 as the team's point guard. HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against No. 23 Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, falling 20-11 in a game one slugfest before a narrow 6-5 defeat in game two. The Tigers are now 5-3 on the year, while the Orediggers improved to 5-2 this season.

After opening the year with five consecutive wins, the Tigers will look to open a new winning streak next weekend when they host New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series. The series begins with a single game at 3 p.m. on Friday before a noon doubleheader on Saturday and a noon finale on Sunday.

Game One: No. 23 Colorado School of Mines 20, Fort Hays State 11 The Orediggers took advantage of the stiff north wind blowing out at Larks Park, clubbing seven home runs in the first game of the day. Fort Hays State did not get its offense going as early as the visitors, but the Tigers managed to match their season high with 11 runs across the final four innings.

The Tigers scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and six in the seventh, but it was too little, too late after Mines tallied 10 runs over the first four innings and added 10 more across the sixth and seventh.

After Mines starter Drew Hill faced just one over the minimum over the first three innings, Fort Hays State got on the board in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5274">Traelon Yarbrough</a>&nbsp;and an RBI single from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5267">Tyler Olson</a>.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5291">Garrett Stephens</a>&nbsp;added an RBI double in the following inning, helping the Tigers close within 10-3.

Tigers swept by No. 23 Orediggers



LUBBOCK, Texas – Fort Hays State moved to 4-1 overall on the season with a 5-3 win over CSU-Pueblo on Sunday morning. Down 1-0, the Tigers rallied for four runs in the fifth to take the lead and then held on in a wild final inning for their third straight win.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5346">Megan Jamison</a>&nbsp;started in the pitching circle for FHSU, getting her first work of the 2020 season. CSU-Pueblo plated a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double, but Jamison worked out of a jam in the second inning to keep the game tight. With a runner at third, Jamison got a pair of key ground balls to keep the margin at one run.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>&nbsp;took over in the circle in the third. She held the Thunderwolves scoreless through her first three innings of work, scattering three hits over that stretch.

The Tigers finally broke through offensively in the top of the fifth, thanks to a pair of pinch hitters fueling the rally.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5343">Elise Capra</a>&nbsp;was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. CSU-Pueblo made the lead uncomfortable with an RBI double and RBI single in the sixth, scratching out its first runs against Chapman to make the score 4-3. However,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5358">Kristen Reed</a>&nbsp;gave the Tigers insurance in the seventh with an RBI double to the left center gap to push the lead out to two runs, 5-3, going to the bottom of the seventh.

The last half inning of the game was a wild one. CSU-Pueblo started the frame with a single, but immediately turned null when the next batter hit into a double play. The Tigers were just one out from securing the win, but getting that out was anything but routine.

The third CSU-Pueblo batter of the inning struck a ball right back to Chapman in the circle who knocked it down, but in her haste threw the ball away and CSU-Pueblo instantly had a runner in scoring position at second. The batter following then blooped a single into center field and the runner came flying around to the plate, making what looked like a 5-4 score, still with two outs. CSU-Pueblo had the potential winning run coming up to bat, but a technicality came into play moments after. CSU-Pueblo's coaches forgot to announce the re-entry of their batter who just blooped the single to center field.

Before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=861">Adrian Pilkington</a>&nbsp;drew attention to the omission, she had already brought on&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a>&nbsp;to warm up looking to get the last out of the game. While Nelson was warming up, Pilkington became aware of the situation. She then went to the umpire to see if he ever received a re-entry request, which he did not, so he ruled the batter at first base out, which ended the game. Nelson never had to throw a pitch.

Chapman picked up the win by going a complete 5.0 innings in relief of Jamison. She moved to 2-1 on the season with the decision.

The Tigers will return to action next weekend (Feb. 14-16) with five games in Oklahoma, looking to build on their good start to the season.
