Linenberger finished 5th all time in points and 8th in rebounding. He became the sixth player in school history to tally 900 or more points and 400 or more rebounds, joining Bill Giles (1977), Roger Casey (1980), Justin Johnson (1990), Matt Stramel (2006) and Brady Werth (2015).

Tuesday he made his college choice official by signing a letter of intent to play for University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The NCAA Division II Lions finished 14-13 this past season and play in the Lone Star Conference.

Linenberger was part of a three year run that resulted in two 5A state basketball tournament appearances and a sub-state runner up finish. The 2020 season was cut short due to COVID, the Indians are left as one of the "Forever Four" teams that would have played in the semifinals. Hays hosted and lost the first round of state in a modified tournament in 2021. The Indians lost to eventual state champions Topeka Seaman in the sub-state championship game on their home floor to end 2022.

HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State head baseball coach Jerod Goodale&nbsp;has announced his resignation due to personal reasons after four years at the helm. Goodale, the 15th coach in program history, joined the Tiger coaching staff in May 2018. He coached the Tigers to 29 wins over the last four seasons, bringing his 11-year career total to 209 victories including seven years as head coach at Colorado School of Mines. Goodale coached four All-MIAA performers in his time at FHSU alongside 70 Academic Honor Roll recognitions, 26 D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards and one CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in Grant Schmidt. In his 18 years as a collegiate baseball coach, Goodale has helped produce 12 All-Americans, 81 all-conference performers, 150 academic all-conference performers, four Academic All-Americans, two national gold glove award winners, 31 players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft and four players that have reached the Major League Baseball level. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs placed an unrestricted free-agent tender on defensive end Melvin Ingram and traded for Houston cornerback Lonnie Johnson on Monday, hoping to add two more pieces to a defense that was revamped during the NFL draft.

The seldom-used UFA tender means the Chiefs essentially offered Ingram a $4.4 million contract for next season, which represents 110% of his pay from last season, while still giving the veteran pass rusher the chance to negotiate with other teams.

If Ingram signs elsewhere before July 22, though, the Chiefs could earn a compensatory pick in next year's draft.

The Chiefs improved one of the league's worst pass rushes last season by drafting Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis in the first round Thursday night, then adding Wisconsin linebacker Leo Chenal in the third round Friday night. But the Chiefs had otherwise done little in free agency to improve a group that suddenly plays in a division featuring quarterbacks Russell Wilson in Denver, Justin Herbert in Los Angeles and Derek Carr in Las Vegas.

Ingram arrived in Kansas City in a midseason trade with Pittsburgh last season, when the Chiefs were trying to inject some life in their dismal pass rush. He had four sacks and 33 pressures in nine regular-season games and three playoff games.

The Chiefs also acquired Johnson from the Texans on Monday, sending a conditional seventh-round draft pick for him. His acquisition came after the Chiefs used the No. 21 overall pick on Washington defensive back Trent McDuffie and a fourth-round pick on Fayetteville State's Joshua Williams along with drafting a pair of safeties.

Johnson started seven of 14 games last season in Houston, playing alongside safety Justin Reid, who signed with the Chiefs earlier in free agency. The second-round pick in the 2019 draft has started 19 of 44 games in his career.

The Texans drafted cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. third overall. They also added veteran Steven Nelson in free agency.

In other news, the Chiefs added an intriguing option among their undrafted free agents by signing Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross, who was once viewed as a potential first-round pick before a spinal disorder threatened his career.

Ross caught 112 passes for 1,865 yards and 17 touchdowns during his first two seasons with Clemson, helping the Tigers win the national championship after his freshman season. But he was diagnosed with a congenital fusion of his neck and spine in the spring of 2020, forcing him to undergo surgery and miss the entire season.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Ross returned to Clemson last year to catch 46 passes for 514 yards and three touchdowns, despite dealing with a stress fracture in his foot for much of the season.

The Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins for a package of draft picks and lost Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle in free agency, resulting in a vastly different wide receiver group for Patrick Mahomes heading into training camp.

They added former Steelers star JuJu Smith-Schuster and Packers deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling in free agency, then used a second-round pick on Western Michigan wide receiver Skyy Moore during last week's draft.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Paul Goldschmidt hit an early home run and Steven Matz and the St. Louis bullpen made it stand up, leading the Cardinals over the Kansas City Royals 1-0 Monday.

Goldschmidt, who got his first day off of the season Sunday, connected with one out in the first inning against Zack Greinke.

The Royals lost their fourth in a row overall, and have dropped 21 of their last 28 to St. Louis dating to Aug. 7, 2017. This game was a makeup from a rainout on April 13 — the I-70 interleague series continues Tuesday and Wednesday in Kansas City.

Matz (3-1) scattered four hits, including a pair of doubles, in six innings. He walked none, hit a batter and struck out four.

Matz had allowed five runs over his previous three starts, spanning 14 2/3 innings, after yielding seven in his Cardinals debut on April 10.

St. Louis relievers Kodi Whitley, Nick Wittgren and Giovanny Gallegos were equally sharp, each pitching an inning in the combined five-hitter. Gallegos gave up a two-out single in the ninth but picked up his fifth save in six chances.

Greinke (0-2) gave up three hits in six innings. The 18-year big league veteran made the 493rd start of his career and didn’t walk anyone with one strikeout.

Carlos Santana had two of the Royals’ five hits. The Cardinals managed just four hits in the game.

Of the 18 players who got an at-bat in his game, half of them — nine — now have a batting average of .196 or lower this season. The Cardinals and Royals combined for 12 strikeouts and one walk.

Major League Baseball hitters finished April with a paltry .231 batting average, on pace to fall below the record low of .237 in 1968 when Cardinals great Bob Gibson and other pitchers dominated.

Since interleague play began in 1997, the Cardinals’ 61.017 winning percentage (72-46) against the Royals is the best across MLB among interleague natural rivals.

Royals CF Michael Taylor robbed Andrew Knizer of a home run in the fifth when he caught the ball over the wall in right center and pulled it back in, drawing applause from the crowd for his feat. … In the sixth, Gold Glove LF Tyler O’Neill dove and snagged a line drive by the Royals’ Whit Merrifield just before it hit the grass.

Merrifield played in his 490th consecutive game, which will extend his franchise record and continue the longest streak in the majors.

⚾ Royals bats stay silent in loss to Cardinals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Aaron Judge homered twice to run his long-ball streak to three straight games, added the tying RBI in the seventh inning and helped the New York Yankees rally past the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Sunday for their ninth straight win.

Judge has hit five home runs in his last five games and eight this season.

Clarke Schmidt (2-2) pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Yankees starter Luis Severino. Aroldis Chapman left the tying run on base in the ninth inning to earn his sixth save on the year and 20th in a row.

Judge returned from a scheduled day off to connect off Daniel Lynch for a drive estimated at 453 feet to center in the first inning. He added another no-doubt shot in the ninth.

But it was the big slugger's checked-swing groundout, which traveled about 30 feet, that tied the game in the seventh. The oopsie RBI came after the Yankees had loaded the bases against Dylan Coleman (0-1) with nobody out, and Josh Donaldson followed it with a go-ahead grounder that gave New York the lead for good.

The Yankees, riding the longest winning streak in the majors, improved to 16-6. It's only the fourth time since 1959 that the 27-time World Series champions have won at least 16 of their first 22 games.

Michael Taylor homered for Kansas City, which has lost eight of its last 10.

The Royals looked as if they might avoid the sweep when Nicky Lopez, Whit Merrifield and Andrew Benintendi loaded the bases in the third inning. Severino's wild pitch allowed Lopez to score from third, and after Salvador Perez hit into a fielder's choice, Carlos Santana snuck a two-out double down the right-field line to give Kansas City a 3-1 lead.

The Royals added another run in the fourth thanks in part to an error on third baseman DJ LeMahieu, the Yankees' second in as many days. Prior to that, they had gone 13 straight games without committing one.

LeMahieu, atoning for his miscue, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each drove in a run to get the Yankees within 4-3, and Judge and Donaldson completed the comeback. Judge punctuated the win with his homer in the ninth.

⚾ No. 4 UCM takes series finale on Senior Day

Fort Hays State University unveiled plans for a new athletic complex Wednesday. The Schmidt-Bickle Athletic Complex will be a $6.5 million, two-story facility that will span nearly 20,000 square feet.

The facility is possible thanks to two generous $1.5 million-lead gifts from the Schmidt Foundation and Don and Chris Bickle. Don and Chris Bickle are longtime donors of FHSU, as were the late Bob and Pat Schmidt. Those two local couples were never afraid to dream big when it came to supporting student-athletes at Fort Hays State. That philanthropy is continued today through the generosity of the Bickles and the Schmidt Foundation, which carries on Bob’s and Pat’s legacy.

The new complex will be located adjacent to Lewis Field. It has yet to be determined whether the complex will be attached to the current Schmidt-Bickle Indoor Training Facility or if it will be a freestanding building in the south endzone of Lewis Field.

The first floor will feature a locker room and training room, and the second floor will provide football coaches offices and additional meeting rooms. A theater-style meeting room will allow the full football team to come together to review game footage.

A locker room large enough to house the entire Tiger football squad will be new for Fort Hays State. Currently, the football team is split between two locker rooms, which is not ideal, said Layke Heimerman, a senior Tiger linebacker from Halstead.

“Although I’m a senior and won’t have the opportunity to benefit from this facility, I’m very excited to see a facility like this come to FHSU, as I care deeply about the program and the future success of it,” Heimerman said. “Having the entire team under one roof will be huge for our program. Not only will this help with the development of freshmen and allow each student-athlete to feel like they’re part of the team, but it will create more camaraderie in the locker room and ultimately lead to stronger team chemistry.”

Heimerman touched on the need for new team meeting rooms as well.

“Specifically for our linebacker group, we had 16 guys this fall – all meeting in one 8x11-foot room,” he said. “Due to the lack of meeting space available, we’re forced to meet in piecemeal groups that can add stress to our players and coaches.”

The new athletic complex will improve physical needs and demands for Tiger Athletics and will also be a big plus with recruitment. A state-of-the-art building can attract and retain high-level student-athletes, which translates into more competitive teams well into the future.

“With these additions, our new athletic training room will be on par with many Division I universities and professional teams, but most importantly will set us apart as a leader in sports medicine across the highly competitive MIAA conference, as well as Division II as a whole,” Hepner added. “Our student-athletes make a commitment to Fort Hays State, and the new Schmidt-Bickle Athletic Complex will showcase the university’s commitment to keeping those students healthy while they compete.”

The Schmidt-Bickle Athletic Complex will be a $6.5 million, two-story facility that will span nearly 20,000 square feet.The facility is possible thanks to two generous $1.5 million-lead gifts from the Schmidt Foundation and Don and Chris Bickle. Don and Chris Bickle are longtime donors of FHSU, as were the late Bob and Pat Schmidt. Those two local couples were never afraid to dream big when it came to supporting student-athletes at Fort Hays State. That philanthropy is continued today through the generosity of the Bickles and the Schmidt Foundation, which carries on Bob’s and Pat’s legacy.The new complex will be located adjacent to Lewis Field. It has yet to be determined whether the complex will be attached to the current Schmidt-Bickle Indoor Training Facility or if it will be a freestanding building in the south endzone of Lewis Field.The first floor will feature a locker room and training room, and the second floor will provide football coaches offices and additional meeting rooms. A theater-style meeting room will allow the full football team to come together to review game footage.A locker room large enough to house the entire Tiger football squad will be new for Fort Hays State. Currently, the football team is split between two locker rooms, which is not ideal, said Layke Heimerman, a senior Tiger linebacker from Halstead.“Although I’m a senior and won’t have the opportunity to benefit from this facility, I’m very excited to see a facility like this come to FHSU, as I care deeply about the program and the future success of it,” Heimerman said. “Having the entire team under one roof will be huge for our program. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Turns out the New York Yankees can win ballgames even when they don't put one out of the park.

It helps having Gerrit Cole on the mound.

The Cy Young runner-up a year ago tossed six sharp innings, the Yankees resorted to manufacturing runs against sloppy Kansas City pitching, and New York beat the Royals 3-0 Saturday night for its eighth straight win.

“No question, when you want to be a complete team and a really good one, you have to find ways at times to win in different ways,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I thought the pitching staff led by Gerrit made really good pitches.”

Cole (2-0) allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six in another dominant start at Kauffman Stadium. The hard-throwing right-hander has allowed only two earned runs in 21 1/3 innings in the pitcher-friendly ballpark.

Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save, helping the Yankees improve to 15-6 — just the fifth time since 1959 that the 27-time World Series champions have won at least 15 of their first 21 games.

Normally a power-hitting team, one that had hit 18 homers in its previous seven games, the Yankees saw Gleyber Torres and Isiah Kiner-Falefa manage sacrifice flies off inconsistent Royals starter Carlos Hernandez (0-1) but little else.

“We're winning now,” Cole said. “That's all we're focused on.”

Hernandez walked five of the first 15 batters he faced and, at one point, had thrown more balls (37) than strikes (36). But the young right-hander limited the damage against a Yankees lineup that loves to inflict it.

Hernandez worked around a walk in the first, then loaded the bases with nobody out in the second but allowed just one run thanks to a double play and a groundout. Hernandez loaded them again with one out in the third, gave up a sacrifice fly, then watched Salvador Perez throw out Anthony Rizzo at third base to end the inning.

The Yankees also drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and scored on another sacrifice fly, giving them a 3-0 lead.

With Cole on the mound, that's usually enough.

He would've set down the first eight batters he faced if not for Kiner-Falefa's miscue at shortstop, ending the Yankees' 13-game errorless streak. Cole's command escaped him briefly in the third, but he got Nicky Lopez to fly out to leave the bases loaded. And in the fourth, Cole froze Bobby Witt Jr. and Kyle Isbel to strand runners on second and third.

Miguel Castro and Clay Holmes each pitched a scoreless inning before Chapman finished things off.

“You give up five walks to a potent offense, it’s going to eventually catch up to you,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “We had a couple of chances with runners on second and third and they made pitches when he needed to.”

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge got his scheduled day off Saturday, even though he's hit three homers in his last four games and five in his last seven. Judge also has hit safely in nine of his last 10 with 12 RBIs over that span.

“It's always hard to have him out,” Boone said, “but I was going to be pretty disciplined about it with another day game (Sunday) after a night game and then going to the turf in Toronto.”

The Royals debuted their “City Connect Series” jerseys featuring art deco-inspired graphics, a nod to the crown of Kauffman Stadium and the fountains of Kansas City, and the deep blue color that the team wore in the 1970s and ’80s.

Yankees: LF Joey Gallo left the game with tightness in his left groin. “I'm not concerned," he said. “It just tightened up on me a little bit.” ... ⚾ Cole pitches Yankees to win over Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Brett Veach found himself in the same vexing position as every other NFL general manager during the draft, trying to remain true to his scouting board — and all the work put in this past year — while also understanding there were glaring holes on the roster that need to be filled.

Turns out the Chiefs GM need not worry: In round after round, the AFC West champs found that the top players left on their board serendipitously addressed some of their biggest weaknesses heading into next season.

One of their top cornerback targets, Trent McDuffie, was there to trade up for at No. 21 overall without sacrificing No. 30, where the Chiefs nabbed one of their favorite pass rushers, George Karlaftis. And when their first of two second-round picks rolled around, the Chiefs got one of their favorite wide receivers in Skyy Moore, a multifaceted talent who many gave a first-round grade and who should help the Chiefs overcome the loss of three-time All-Pro Tyreek Hill.

It kept going like that all weekend: With their other second-round pick, the Chiefs plugged a hole at safety with big-hitting Bryan Cook. Third-round pick Leo Chenal fits perfectly among Kansas City linebackers, fourth-rounder Joshua Williams will provide cornerback depth and offensive lineman Darrian Kinnard in the fifth offered exceptional value.

All areas of need, all addressed without too much stress.

“We joked about that, too,” Veach said. “It was one of those weird setups where we were able to stick to the board, stick to the value, players' talent and upside, and yet at the same time, address key needs for our team.”

The biggest needs were clearly on defense, where the Chiefs struggled mightily in the playoffs, then lost All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu in free agency. The Chiefs signed Justin Reid as his replacement and made a few other moves, but it was clear that the Chiefs intended to get younger and faster on that side of the ball through the draft.

Five of their first six selections came on that side of the ball.

McDuffie should help replace Charvarius Ward, who left for San Francisco in free agency, while Karlaftis and Chenal should help a pass rush that was among the worst in the NFL last season. Cook should be a lot to handle in the defensive backfield, while Williams offers major upside after playing Division II college ball.

In fact, things went so well for Kansas City that Veach even managed to trade back four spots and still get his guy — Moore in the second round. It was the first time Veach, known for aggressively trading up, had ever traded down.

“Yeah, it was exciting. I told (Chiefs chairman) Clark Hunt that I think I have everything checked off of my to‐do list and the only thing I have left is a trade‐down," Veach said with a laugh. "We took a little time to celebrate that.”

As first-round picks, McDuffie and Karlaftis should play meaningful downs right away. But watch out for Chenal, whose ability to play the SAM linebacker spot allows Willie Gay Jr. to slide to his more natural weak-side spot with Nick Bolton, a second-round revelation last season, calling the shots from the middle linebacker spot.

The Chiefs signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster to remake their wide receiver room, but Moore gives the offense an element that Hill also brought: speed and creativity. His ability to get open when plays break down is ideal for Patrick Mahomes, whose pocket passing is good but whose throwing ability on the move is elite.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid freely admits to liking players with mean streaks and he got a couple this weekend.

Chenal, the linebacker from Wisconsin, described himself this way: “People who watch my game know I’m going to be one of the most violent guys on the field at all times.”

And Kinnard, the offensive lineman from Kentucky, wasn't happy that he had to wait until Day Three to hear his name called, saying: “Yeah, I'm going to play pissed.”

Williams, who played at Fayetteville State in North Carolina, was the first player drafted from a historically black college or university this year; none were selected last year.

Some of the best players in Chiefs history came from HBCUs, among them: linebacker Willie Lanier (Morgan State), defensive lineman Buck Buchanan (Grambling State), defensive back Emmitt Thomas (Bishop College) and wide receiver Otis Taylor (Prairie View A&amp;M).

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Fort Hays State Softball reached the end of its 2022 season on Saturday in a doubleheader at Northeastern State. The Tigers fell in both games of the doubleheader, the first being a tough one-run loss in 10 innings. NSU won by scores of 4-3 and 5-1 to finish 28-23 in the regular season and 16-10 in the MIAA. FHSU closed its season at 23-30-1 overall and 9-17 in the MIAA.

Game 1: Northeastern State 4, Fort Hays State 3 (10 inn.) The Tigers played their longest game of the season in the first contest and unfortunately saw leads slip away twice, the second time being in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 10th&nbsp;on a two-run homer by the RiverHawks. All but one run in the contest scored on home runs as Northeastern State hit two and FHSU hit one.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6344">Sarah Tiffany</a>&nbsp;put the Tigers up 2-0 in the second inning with her two-run homer, her third homer of the season. Chloe Bohuslavicky knotted the score at 2-2 in the fourth with a two-run homer in response. From that point, pitchers&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6352">Savanah Egger</a>&nbsp;of FHSU and Gail Young of NSU continued in a pitching duel that lasted all the way into the 10th&nbsp;inning. Egger finished the game with just five hits allowed, while striking out six. Young tossed a full 10 innings and allowed six hits, while striking out three. Game 2: Northeastern State 5, Fort Hays State 1 Northeastern State did the majority of its scoring in the first inning of the second contest, plating three. The RiverHawks took their lead out to 5-0 in the third on a two-run homer by Alyssia Crick, who finished the second contest a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. The Tigers only had two runners reach scoring position before finally breaking through in the sixth with their only run.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6344">Sarah Tiffany</a>&nbsp;singled, moved up to second on a groundout, and then came in to score on a&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6339">Sara Breckbill</a>&nbsp;single. TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Fort Hays State Softball reached the end of its 2022 season on Saturday in a doubleheader at Northeastern State. The Tigers fell in both games of the doubleheader, the first being a tough one-run loss in 10 innings. NSU won by scores of 4-3 and 5-1 to finish 28-23 in the regular season and 16-10 in the MIAA. FHSU closed its season at 23-30-1 overall and 9-17 in the MIAA.Game 1: Northeastern State 4, Fort Hays State 3 (10 inn.) The Tigers played their longest game of the season in the first contest and unfortunately saw leads slip away twice, the second time being in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 10th&nbsp;on a two-run homer by the RiverHawks. All but one run in the contest scored on home runs as Northeastern State hit two and FHSU hit one.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6344">Sarah Tiffany</a>&nbsp;put the Tigers up 2-0 in the second inning with her two-run homer, her third homer of the season. Chloe Bohuslavicky knotted the score at 2-2 in the fourth with a two-run homer in response. From that point, pitchers&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6352">Savanah Egger</a>&nbsp;of FHSU and Gail Young of NSU continued in a pitching duel that lasted all the way into the 10th&nbsp;inning. Egger, who retired NSU in order in four of five innings following the NSU homer in the fourth, saw her only walk allowed in the game cost her in the 10th. Ellis senior baseball, softball players honored Monday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill and watched Tyrann Mathieu depart in free agency, bidding adieu to two of the cornerstones that helped the franchise rise from mediocrity to AFC juggernaut.

They spent the second night of the NFL draft finding some replacements.

The Chiefs traded back four spots with New England to take Western Michigan wide receiver Skyy Moore on Friday night, then used their other second-round pick on Cincinnati safety Bryan Cook, adding them to a first-round haul of Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie and Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis.

The Chiefs used their late third-round pick to add big, rangy Wisconsin linebacker Leo Chenal, and they have one pick apiece in the fourth and fifth rounds and four more in the seventh before the draft concludes Saturday.

"We're always looking at the value of the board and marrying up the need," said Mike Borgonzi, the Chiefs' director of football operations. "It fell to us again this year. We were able to fill some needs as well as where they sat on the board. We weren't reaching for these players. We got value for where we were at on the board but filled need as well."

Each of the Chiefs' first four picks have filled areas of need: three to shore up coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's defense after it struggled mightily down the stretch last season, and an electrifying playmaker for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Patriots used the No. 50 pick from Kansas City to select Baylor wide receiver Tyquan Thornton. Two more teams ahead of the Chiefs also grabbed receivers with Pittsburgh taking George Pickens and Indianapolis picking Alec Pierce.

But the target for the the Chiefs was Moore, whose 5-foot-10 frame, 4.41 time in the 40 and burst off the line will remind some of Hill, the three-time All-Pro that Kansas City shipped to Miami for a package of draft picks.

"Tyreek was just a super versatile, super fast game. He was able to bring the speed to that offense," Moore said. "I really honestly feel like I can come in and bring that same thing and bring my own twist to it."

The Chiefs have also signed former Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and former Packers deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling in free agency. But the shifty, slippery Moore offers a different dynamic in the wide receiver room, giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes another target who has the ability to make things happen after the catch.

"It's impressive to see what he's done the past three seasons. He had a monster year last year," Borgonzi said. "The one thing you see with him is he's just dependable, a really smooth route-runner."

Moore actually played quarterback in high school before moving to wide receiver at Western Michigan, where he became an immediate star. Despite never having played the position, he started 12 of 13 games as a freshman and had 53 catches for 802 yards with three touchdowns, and then improved those numbers each of the next two seasons.

He wound up catching 95 passes for 1,292 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Broncos last season.

"I'm a very versatile, tough, smart and savvy wide receiver. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo and Gleyber Torres all homered and the New York Yankees won their seventh in a row, beating the Kansas City Royals 12-2 Friday night in a rain-shortened game.

New York took a 3-2 lead into the seventh before scoring four runs, three on Judge’s homer. Torres connected for a two-run drive during a five-run eighth.

“It was a close game,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “We get out of the gates with three runs, but it was 3-2 going into the seventh. There were some really good at-bats that set that up."

Nestor Cortes (1-0) allowed one earned run and eight hits in five innings.

“For the first two innings they were on my stuff,” Cortes said. "Obviously you have to make adjustments. I started attacking the outside part of the plate more, and it gave me better results.”

The Yankees wasted little time in putting pressure on Kris Bubic (0-2). D.J. LeMahieu hit a leadoff double to the wall in right field, and Judge lined out to center before Rizzo homered to center.

“You want to come out and start strong,” Rizzo said. “Obviously the first inning to get three runs for Nestor, who obviously grinded today, whenever you can get our staff runs early, so they can go out and pitch is nice. Judgy breaking it open in the seventh, and us scoring nine late, was another energizing thing for this team."

“Even when we go through innings where we don’t score runs, we know there’s big numbers on the way," he said.

Stanton hit a 429-foot home run over the bullpen in left, and the Royals got a reliever up in the bullpen. But that was all the Yankees got off Bubic, who retired the next 10 batters and 14 of the final 15 he faced.

“I thought we had really good at-bats against him in that first inning,” Boone said. “But to his credit — I know it’s been a tough start to the season for him— he kind of settled in and made some pitches. We didn’t mount that much of an attack. Good job by him.”

COLBY – The Hays High softball team ended their busy week of
four doubleheaders, all on the road, in five days with a sweep in Colby Friday.
After winning game one 20-6, the Indians took the second contest 19-4 to move
to 10-6 on the season.

The Indians are scheduled to play at home for the first time since April 19th on Tuesday
when they host Liberal in a doubleheader at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.

Game 1: Hays 20, Colby 6 (5 innings) 
Lainey Hardman had four hits including two home runs and drove in five runs in
the run-rule victory. Riley Dreher also had four hits including a home run and
drove in four.

After both teams scored a run in the first, the Indians took
the lead for good with another run in the second then nine in the top of the third
on a Hardman three-run homer and a Dreher two-run shot, the first of her
career.

Colby scored four in the bottom of the third, but Hays quickly
answered with a seven-run fourth which was started with a solo homer from Hardman.

Aubree Thomas (5-4) allowed four earned runs on 10 hits with
eight strikeouts and no walks in the complete game victory.

Game 2: Hays 20, Colby 4 (3 innings) 
The Indians broke open a one-run game with a 15-run third inning. The first
five runs scored before the first out was recorded.

Following a single and a walk, Avery Solida singled to left
driving in the first run. The Indians added the next run on an error, then a
walk and back-to-back base hits from Dezarae Schmidt and Lainey Hardman pushed
the lead to 9-3. Madyson Sennett later added a three-run homer.

Hays led 4-0 after an inning and half only to see Colby hit
a three-run homer in the bottom of the second to make it a one-run game.

Schmidt, Morgen Berry, Elle Dreiling and Solioda all had multi-hit
games. Berry and Sennett both drove in three runs with Schmidt, Riley Dreher and
