KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Hays High baseball team battled until the final out against the No. 1 ranked team in 6A but came up on the short end of a 4-3 score vs. Blue Valley West in the title game of the Butch Foster Memorial Baseball Tournament Friday at Legends Field.
The Jaguars (15-1) scored the game winning run on a one-out squeeze play in the bottom of the sixth.
The Indians (9-5) scored all three of their runs in the first to grab the early lead. With one out, Dylan Dreiling singled then Dalton Dale doubled. Derek Riggs drove in both with a single to center. With two outs, Jack Fields singled to center and knocked in the third run.
Blue Valley West scored three in the third to tie the game where it remained until the sixth when they used a single and two sac bunts to drive in what proved to be the winning run.
Dylan Dreiling (1-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Derek Riggs and Bradyn Dreher each had two of the Indians 11 hits with Riggs driving in two runs.
Dylan Dreiling, Garrett Wellbrock and Carson Spray were named to the all-tournament team.
The Indians host their own Western Plains Diamond Classic this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
