🏈 Tigers fall to Gorillas in season finale

&nbsp;ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The fourth-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team picked up another victory on opening weekend, defeating Sioux Falls 82-73 on Saturday (Nov. 13) at the Hillyard Women's Basketball Tip-Off Classic. 

Second-year freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6443">Katie Wagner</a>&nbsp;led the Tigers in scoring for the second game in a row, posting career highs with 26 points and 15 rebounds. It was the first 15-15 game for a Tiger since Tatyana Legette almost four years ago (17p, 15r vs. Newman, 11/18/17). The Tigers (2-0) have yet to find themselves behind in a contest this season, taking the lead two minutes into the game on a&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6439">Whitney Randall</a>&nbsp;free throw and never looking back. The Tigers scored the first six points in the contest thanks to an early&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6447">Lauren West</a>&nbsp;3-pointer and a layup from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6438">Olivia Hollenbeck</a>. Fort Hays State later led by as many as seven before going into the second quarter in front by four, 14-10. Fort Hays State hit 62.5 percent from the floor (10-of-16) in the second quarter to begin to pull away, leading by as many as 14 while taking an 11-point advantage into the locker room, 37-26. USF (0-2) closed within two early in the frame before the Tigers went on a 14-2 run. West capped off the run with another triple, putting FHSU in front 30-16 with 5:31 to go before halftime. The teams traded runs in the third quarter, with Sioux Falls closing within six on multiple occasions before the Tigers padded the advantage back to double figures. The Cougars closed within five points two different times in the final frame, but Wagner helped the Tigers secure the win after scoring 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and a 5-of-5 effort from the free-throw line in the final frame. Fort Hays State hit 57.1 percent from the floor (32-of-57), the top shooting effort by an MIAA team so far this season. The Tigers outrebounded the Cougars by seven, 35-28. Four players had at least three assists for the Tigers, including Wagner (four), Randall (four), West (three) and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6444">Kate Dilsaver</a>&nbsp;(three). Hollenbeck added 16 points, while Randall added 15 for the Tigers. Megan Fannin led the Cougars with 26 points behind five 3-pointers.

The Tigers will play inside Gross Memorial Coliseum for the first time this season next weekend (Nov. 19-20) when FHSU hosts a four-team classic. FHSU will play St. Cloud State Friday at 6 p.m. before facing off with Cameron Saturday at 4 p.m. Newman will also be in Hays, facing off with the Huskies and Aggies in reverse order two hours before the scheduled FHSU tip-off.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀 #4 FHSU women battle past Sioux Falls

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kansas State kept watching West Virginia stubbornly convert fourth downs to keep its comeback hopes alive.

Finally, the Wildcats did the same thing on fourth down to dash them.

Deuce Vaughn ran for 121 yards and a touchdown, Sammy Wheeler had a touchdown catch along with a crucial fourth-down grab that led to the clinching fourth-quarter score, and the Wildcats held off the mistake-prone Mountaineers 34-17 on Saturday snap a five-game losing streak in the series.

“The belief, the confidence, the expectation -- those are kind of the three terms we've come up with the last three weeks,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. “Have confidence that you know the plan and can execute the plan, have belief in yourself and each other and then raise the expectation each week.

“This is a big-time win,” Klieman added, “because we haven't had a whole lot of success against them.”

Skylar Thompson had just 138 yards passing for the Wildcats (7-3, 4-3 Big 12), but the senior made a couple clutch throws when the Mountaineers (4-6, 2-5) had whittled a 24-3 deficit to seven midway through the fourth quarter.

Jarret Doege had 268 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions for West Virginia, which was just 5 for 14 on third down but 3 for 4 on fourth. Leddie Brown added 85 yards on the ground.

“They did absolutely nothing in the game to beat themselves,” West Virginia coach Neal Brown said, “and that's hard, and they did that. Zero turnovers. They had one penalty the entire game. They didn't have any unforced errors.”

West Virginia began digging a big hole when Doege was picked on the game's second play, his throw skipping off Winston Wright Jr.'s hands and into those of Russ Yeast. Kansas State promptly marched 55 yards to take a 7-0 lead.

A few minutes later, the Mountaineers' VanDarius Cowan hit Thompson with a helmet-to-helmet blow and was ejected.

“The ball was clearly out,” Brown said. “I can't explain that.”

West Virginia eventually got the ball back, but a personal foul for a chop block forced a punt. The Wildcats' Ty Bowman slipped around the edge to block it, and teammate Marvin Martin picked up the loose ball for a 14-0 lead.

“We kind of doctored up this punt block all week that we thought we could get,” Klieman said.

The problems continued for West Virginia when it gambled on fourth-and-6 at the Kansas State 29 near the end of the first quarter; Doege was sacked for a turnover-on-downs. And when the Mountaineers faced fourth-and-3 later in the second quarter at nearly the same spot on the field, they tried the field goal and Casey Legg pushed it wide right.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 24-3 early in the second half. Malik Knowles nearly broke the opening kickoff for a TD and Thompson took advantage of the good field position to hit Wheeler for the score.

That's when the Mountaineers got on track for the first time all game.

Late in the third quarter, Doege hit Kaden Prather to convert on fourth down. Then, the senior quarterback found Reese Smith from 13 yards out for West Virginia's first touchdown in 21 possessions spanning three games.

After the Wildcats missed a own chip-shot field goal, the Mountaineers went 80 yards the other way. Brown converted on fourth-and-1 early in the drive, and Doege finished it by finding Wright in the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the Kansas State 3 to get West Virginia within 24-17 with 11:50 to go.

But the Wildcats proved they can convert on fourth down, too.

Facing fourth-and-9 near midfield, Thompson threw a rope to Wheeler for a 35-yard gain — improving Kansas State to 12 of 14 on fourth downs this year. Vaughn capped the 63-yard drive with a touchdown run to put the game away.

“We had not done a great job of stopping those guys,” Klieman said of the fourth-down gamble. “I looked at Skylar and said, ‘This is yours. What do you like? We need a touchdown. We didn’t come here to hang on to win. We came here to win the football game.”

West Virginia simply couldn't overcome the early mistakes, even though it played nearly flawless most of the second half. Now, the Mountaineers need to beat Texas and Kansas the next two weeks to become bowl-eligible.

Kansas State is working on a better bowl destination now. The Wildcats have ripped off four straight wins heading into a big game against Baylor on Senior Day in Manhattan, then they finish the regular season at Texas.

West Virginia: The Mountaineers return home to play the Longhorns on Saturday.

Kansas State: The Wildcats play the Bears the same night.

(AP) — Kansas State kept watching West Virginia stubbornly convert fourth downs to keep its comeback hopes alive.Finally, the Wildcats did the same thing on fourth down to dash them.Deuce Vaughn ran for 121 yards and a touchdown, Sammy Wheeler had a touchdown catch along with a crucial fourth-down grab that led to the clinching fourth-quarter score, and the Wildcats held off the mistake-prone Mountaineers 34-17 on Saturday snap a five-game losing streak in the series.“The belief, the confidence, the expectation -- those are kind of the three terms we've come up with the last three weeks,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. “Have confidence that you know the plan and can execute the plan, have belief in yourself and each other and then raise the expectation each week.“This is a big-time win,” Klieman added, “because we haven't had a whole lot of success against them.”Skylar Thompson had just 138 yards passing for the Wildcats (7-3, 4-3 Big 12), but the senior made a couple clutch throws when the Mountaineers (4-6, 2-5) had whittled a 24-3 deficit to seven midway through the fourth quarter.Jarret Doege had 268 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions for West Virginia, which was just 5 for 14 on third down but 3 for 4 on fourth. Leddie Brown added 85 yards on the ground.“They did absolutely nothing in the game to beat themselves,” West Virginia coach Neal Brown said, “and that's hard, and they did that. Zero turnovers. They had one penalty the entire game. They didn't have any unforced errors.”West Virginia began digging a big hole when Doege was picked on the game's second play, his throw skipping off Winston Wright Jr.'s hands and into those of Russ Yeast. Kansas State promptly marched 55 yards to take a 7-0 lead.A few minutes later, the Mountaineers' VanDarius Cowan hit Thompson with a helmet-to-helmet blow and was ejected.“The ball was clearly out,” Brown said. “I can't explain that.”West Virginia eventually got the ball back, but a personal foul for a chop block forced a punt. The Wildcats' Ty Bowman slipped around the edge to block it, and teammate Marvin Martin picked up the loose ball for a 14-0 lead.“We kind of doctored up this punt block all week that we thought we could get,” Klieman said.The problems continued for West Virginia when it gambled on fourth-and-6 at the Kansas State 29 near the end of the first quarter; Doege was sacked for a turnover-on-downs. And when the Mountaineers faced fourth-and-3 later in the second quarter at nearly the same spot on the field, they tried the field goal and Casey Legg pushed it wide right.The Wildcats extended their lead to 24-3 early in the second half. Malik Knowles nearly broke the opening kickoff for a TD and Thompson took advantage of the good field position to hit Wheeler for the score.That's when the Mountaineers got on track for the first time all game.Late in the third quarter, Doege hit Kaden Prather to convert on fourth down. Then, the senior quarterback found Reese Smith from 13 yards out for West Virginia's first touchdown in 21 possessions spanning three games.It wasn't the last, either.After the Wildcats missed a own chip-shot field goal, the Mountaineers went 80 yards the other way. Brown converted on fourth-and-1 early in the drive, and Doege finished it by finding Wright in the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the Kansas State 3 to get West Virginia within 24-17 with 11:50 to go.But the Wildcats proved they can convert on fourth down, too.Facing fourth-and-9 near midfield, Thompson threw a rope to Wheeler for a 35-yard gain — improving Kansas State to 12 of 14 on fourth downs this year. Vaughn capped the 63-yard drive with a touchdown run to put the game away.“We had not done a great job of stopping those guys,” Klieman said of the fourth-down gamble. “I looked at Skylar and said, ‘This is yours. What do you like? We need a touchdown. We didn’t come here to hang on to win. We came here to win the football game.”THE TAKEAWAYWest Virginia simply couldn't overcome the early mistakes, even though it played nearly flawless most of the second half. Now, the Mountaineers need to beat Texas and Kansas the next two weeks to become bowl-eligible.Kansas State is working on a better bowl destination now. The TMP-Marian Monarchs offense could never get going
and the big-play Kingman offense was more than enough to knock off the Monarchs
in the 2A state quarterfinals Friday 35-0 at Lewis Field in Hays.

Friday night marked the first time since week three of the
2019 season that TMP was held off the scoreboard, ending a streak of 25
straight games with at least a touchdown.

Kingman struck first, after a three-and-out on TMP’s first
drive. The Eagles scored a 37-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to go up 7-0.

The Monarchs had a promising drive going on their next
chance but a penalty stalled all their momentum inside Eagles territory.

In the first half time was able to get inside Eagles territory
only once and were forced to punt three times and turned it over twice.

An interception of Kade Harris and a return to the TMP
41-yard line set up the second scoring drive of the first half by Kingman. 

They took a 14-0 lead on 23-yard touchdown pass. 

They opened the second half with a third scoring drive and
capped off the drive with a 19-yard touchdown run to lead TMP 28-0. 

In the second half TMP punted twice and turned it over on
does twice while Kingman added a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter
on their way to the 35-0 win.

Unofficially TMP was held to just 130 total yards of
offense. 

TMP finished the year with just the fourth ever trip to the
state quarterfinals and they won their first two playoff games since 2002. The
eight wins in a season is the most since 1977.

Kingman (10-1) will play Beloit after the Trojans held off a
late rally for Hillsboro for a 32-27 win.

The Hays High Indians traveled to Maize High School for the 5A Quarterfinals on a cold, blustery Friday night. The offenses owned the first 14 minutes of the game. Maize scored on just four plays following the Indians turning it over on down at the 28 yard line. Roy Moroni punched in a 15 yard run to cap a three play 70 yard drive. Maize ran in from 29 yards before the Indians Jaren Kanak scored on a wild 69 yard run. The Indians converted for two points on their first two touchdowns for a 16-14 lead. Maize took the lead back with just under four minutes left in the first quarter on a 72 yard touchdown pass. Hays scored less than two minutes into the second quarter but failed to convert on a two point try for a 22-21 lead with 10:43 left in the first half. Jarrett Lyon blocked the extra point. Wyatt Crain picked off a pass while Hays led by one point, but the Indians punted just three plays later. Maize took the lead back on a 21 yard pass with 4:24 left in the first half. Hays took the ensuing kickoff back to the Maize 42 yard line but punted after three plays, going into the locker room down 27-22.

Things couldn't have gone worse for the Indians to open the second half. Maize caught a tipped pass at the two yard line and scored one play later for a 35-22 lead. Hays fumbled the ensuing kick return and Maize scored one play later on a 38 yard pass to take a 41-22 lead.&nbsp;

The Indians then turned the ball over on down the next drive, but Maize missed a field goal. That is when the Indians made a charge back into the ball game. Carson Kieffer converted a fourth and nine on a run as the punter. Hays turned the drive into points with a Roy Moroni 10 yard run.&nbsp;

Maize punted on their next drive with Hays taken over the at their own eight yard. The Indians traversed the entire distance, capping the drive with a Malik Bah five yard run.&nbsp;

The Indians knocked down a fourth down pass and took over at the 48 yard line with under four minutes remaining. Hays converted on fourth down but threw an interception two plays later. Maize ripped off a 91 yard run for the final margin 48-36.

Kanak ran for 203 yards, Moroni 107 and Bah 81.&nbsp;

The Hays season closes at 8-3. Maize is now 9-2 and will play Kapaun. The Crusaders scored 21 fourth quarter points to beat Wichita Northwest 38-35.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Just about everything was back to normal for Kansas inside Allen Fieldhouse on Friday night.

Bill Self excoriated the officials for every perceived miscue. The vocal student section razzed Tarleton every time the Texans missed a shot. The Jayhawks executed their familiar ally-oop dunk out of a timeout. And by the time the game drew to a close, the crowd began the haunting refrain of “Rooock. Chaaalk. Jaaayhaaawk.”

Oh, and the third-ranked Jayhawks cruised to an 88-62 victory — their 49th consecutive in a home opener.

“I actually thought we played pretty well,” said Jayhawks coach Bill Self, whose team cruised past Michigan State in the Champions Classic on Tuesday night. “They play so hard up underneath you and play a different style game.

"The game went exactly how I thought it would go.”

Ochai Agbaji scored 25 points, Christian Braun had 15, Remy Martin added 14 and Jalen Coleman-Lands 10 for the Jayhawks (2-0), who led just 63-50 with about 6 1/2 minutes left before pulling away down the stretch.

“We're building,” said Braun, who also had eight rebounds, five assists and five blocks. That was a good challenge for us because it’s something we hadn't seen before and we're just going to go from there."

Shamir Bogues had 20 points and Montre Gipson had 19 for the Texans (0-2), who were supposed to play Kansas last season but had the trip scuttled by a COVID-19 outbreak. It was the first of six straight games that Tarleton had canceled or postponed, keeping the Texans off the court for an entire month.

Kansas allowed about 2,000 fans for most home games last season, when many schools across the country were playing in front of empty stands. But Friday night was the first time in nearly two years the Phog was filled to the rafters.

“This atmosphere is like no other,” said Coleman-Lands, a transfer from Big 12 rival Iowa State. “Last year wasn't an authentic college experience. Even if it wasn't sold out tonight, it was electric out there.”

Tarleton didn't make it an easy night, though.

When the Jayhawks pressed their lead to 25-12 on back-to-back baskets by Agbaji, the small WAC school — playing just its second season of Division I basketball — ripped off nine straight to get back into the game. And when Kansas stretched the lead again to 33-22 late in the first half, Gipson went on a personal 7-0 run to claw the Texans right back.

They trailed 39-31 at the break; Gipson and Bogues had all but two of their points.

They hung around most of the second half, closing within 63-50 on Javontae Hopkins' basket with 6 1/2 minutes to go. But Dajuan Harris Jr. answered at the other end, Agbaji his second 3-pointer and David McCormack threw down a dunk as the lead hit 20 points for the first time and the Jayhawks began to pull away.

“We know that game, we’re supposed to step it up,” Kansas freshman Bobby Pettiford said. “We talked in the locker room and the second half we brought it.”

Tarleton, a longtime Division II powerhouse, certainly isn't afraid of playing anyone. Billy Gillispie — who was not made available after the game — also scheduled sixth-ranked Michigan and No. 1 Gonzaga before December rolls around. Despite how the Texans fare, that experience should prove invaluable by the time league play begins.

Kansas had a 41-25 rebounding advantage but struggled to outscore the Texans in the paint, even though the small school from Stephenville, Texas, started nobody taller than 6-foot-6. In fact, Tarleton finished with a 13-9 edge on second-chance points, so there is plenty of room for the Jayhawks to improve.

The Texans continue a Sunflower State swing by facing Wichita State on Tuesday night.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Fort Hays State had nine players named to the 2021 All-GAC/MIAA Men's Soccer Team, released on Thursday evening.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6239">Taisei Arima</a>&nbsp;is the GAC/MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6241">Alec Bevis</a>&nbsp;is the GAC/MIAA Defender of the Year. Only five players at the championship site meet the criteria this year. Arima, a sophomore forward from Machida, Japan, is the conference's Offensive Player of the Year, finishing the regular season tied with teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6240">Blake Arndt</a>&nbsp;for the conference lead in points generated. Arima had eight goals and a team-leading five assists during the regular season, generating 21 points. After a slow start in non-conference play, Arima broke out in a big way by generating all 21 of his points during GAC/MIAA play, which covered the last 12 matches of the regular season. Sixteen of his 21 points came during the month of October, all during a stretch of six matches. Arima is now a two-time All-GAC/MIAA selection after earning a Second Team selection as a freshman during the shortened 2020-21 spring season. Bevis, a senior defender from Wichita, Kansas, is the conference's Defender of the Year, helping the Tigers to a 0.89 goals against average as a team. Bevis has been a force anchoring the Tigers at center back, shutting down numerous offensive chances for opponents. He has played 1,557 minutes this year and even provided a goal in a home win over Newman University earlier this season. He helped the Tigers post six shutouts as a team during the regular season. Bevis is now a three-time All-GAC/MIAA selection, twice as first team and once as honorable mention. He was the GAC/MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2019, while garnering all-region honors as well. Arndt, a junior forward from Wichita, Kansas, earns the second All-GAC/MIAA First Team selection of his career. He earned the same distinction back in the shortened spring season of 2020-21, while garnering Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors. Arndt tied Arima for the team lead in points during the regular season with 21, producing nine goals and three assists. He led the GAC/MIAA in goals during the regular season. He has three game-winning goals to his credit this season. Brown, a junior goalkeeper from Kettering, Australia, earns a First Team selection at goalkeeper for the second straight season. Brown has a 0.79 goals against average, which leads the MIAA and ranks 16th&nbsp;nationally. His .823 save percentage and 65 saves also lead the conference, ranking 18th&nbsp;nationally in save percentage. Brown has an 11-5-2 record between the pipes this season with six shutouts. Robertsson, a sophomore midfielder from Kopavogur, Iceland, earns the first all-conference nod of his career at FHSU, receiving a first team selection in the midfield. He has 10 points this season with four goals and two assists, logging 1,379 minutes on the pitch. He also has one game-winning goal to his credit. De La Torre, a senior from Dodge City, Kansas, picks up a second-straight second-team selection at defender after earning the same honor in the shortened spring 2020-21 season. A key part of the Tigers' back line, De La Torre is a versatile player that often goes forward on the attack for FHSU. He finished the regular season with 14 points to rank third on the team, generating five goals and four assists. He tallied 12 of his 14 points for the season in conference matches. Iwasaki, a sophomore from Tokyo, Japan, received second-team honors at defender. He has been integral to the Tiger success this season by playing 1,668 minutes on the back line of defense. He has been the team's iron man, playing in every possible minute of action this season through 18 matches. He has helped the Tigers to a 0.89 goals against average as a team and six shutouts. Doud, a sophomore from Wichita, Kansas, received an honorable mention nod in the midfield. He started all 18 contests during the regular season and generated four points with a goal and two assists. This is the first all-conference honor of his career. Gammelvind, a sophomore from Silkeborg, Denmark, receives and honorable mention selection at defender for a second-straight season. He had one assist during the regular season and helps anchor the Tigers' defensive unit that allows less than one goal per match. Fort Hays State has now had the GAC/MIAA Offensive Player of the Year all three seasons since the GAC and MIAA combined to make a conference in men's soccer. Santiago Agudelo was the Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, and Arndt received the honor in 2020-21. The Tigers have had the Defender of the Year twice as Bevis joins Sergio Villalba, who received the honor back in 2019. Only five players at the championship site meet the criteria this year. Arima, a sophomore forward from Machida, Japan, is the conference's Offensive Player of the Year, finishing the regular season tied with teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6240">Blake Arndt</a>&nbsp;for the conference lead in points generated. Arima had eight goals and a team-leading five assists during the regular season, generating 21 points. After a slow start in non-conference play, Arima broke out in a big way by generating all 21 of his points during GAC/MIAA play, which covered the last 12 matches of the regular season. Sixteen of his 21 points came during the month of October, all during a stretch of six matches. Arima is now a two-time All-GAC/MIAA selection after earning a Second Team selection as a freshman during the shortened 2020-21 spring season. Bevis, a senior defender from Wichita, Kansas, is the conference's Defender of the Year, helping the Tigers to a 0.89 goals against average as a team. Bevis has been a force anchoring the Tigers at center back, shutting down numerous offensive chances for opponents. He has played 1,557 minutes this year and even provided a goal in a home win over Newman University earlier this season. He helped the Tigers post six shutouts as a team during the regular season. Bevis is now a three-time All-GAC/MIAA selection, twice as first team and once as honorable mention. He was the GAC/MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2019, while garnering all-region honors as well. Arndt, a junior forward from Wichita, Kansas, earns the second All-GAC/MIAA First Team selection of his career. He earned the same distinction back in the shortened spring season of 2020-21, while garnering Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors. Arndt tied Arima for the team lead in points during the regular season with 21, producing nine goals and three assists. He led the GAC/MIAA in goals during the regular season. He has three game-winning goals to his credit this season. Brown, a junior goalkeeper from Kettering, Australia, earns a First Team selection at goalkeeper for the second straight season. Brown has a 0.79 goals against average, which leads the MIAA and ranks 16th&nbsp;nationally. His .823 save percentage and 65 saves also lead the conference, ranking 18th&nbsp;nationally in save percentage. Brown has an 11-5-2 record between the pipes this season with six shutouts. Robertsson, a sophomore midfielder from Kopavogur, Iceland, earns the first all-conference nod of his career at FHSU, receiving a first team selection in the midfield. He has 10 points this season with four goals and two assists, logging 1,379 minutes on the pitch. He also has one game-winning goal to his credit. De La Torre, a senior from Dodge City, Kansas, picks up a second-straight second-team selection at defender after earning the same honor in the shortened spring 2020-21 season. A key part of the Tigers' back line, De La Torre is a versatile player that often goes forward on the attack for FHSU. He finished the regular season with 14 points to rank third on the team, generating five goals and four assists. He tallied 12 of his 14 points for the season in conference matches. Iwasaki, a sophomore from Tokyo, Japan, received second-team honors at defender. He has been integral to the Tiger success this season by playing 1,668 minutes on the back line of defense. He has been the team's iron man, playing in every possible minute of action this season through 18 matches. He has helped the Tigers to a 0.89 goals against average as a team and six shutouts. Doud, a sophomore from Wichita, Kansas, received an honorable mention nod in the midfield. He started all 18 contests during the regular season and generated four points with a goal and two assists. This is the first all-conference honor of his career. Gammelvind, a sophomore from Silkeborg, Denmark, receives and honorable mention selection at defender for a second-straight season. He had one assist during the regular season and helps anchor the Tigers' defensive unit that allows less than one goal per match. Fort Hays State has now had the GAC/MIAA Offensive Player of the Year all three seasons since the GAC and MIAA combined to make a conference in men's soccer. Santiago Agudelo was the Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, and Arndt received the honor in 2020-21. The Tigers have had the Defender of the Year twice as Bevis joins Sergio Villalba, who received the honor back in 2019. HAYS – TMP-Marian senior Emilee Lane signed a National Letter of
Intent Thursday to play volleyball at Nebraska-Kearney.

Lane has been named to the All MCL volleyball teams each of
the last three seasons and was an All-State selection as both a sophomore and
junior. This year's All-State teams have not been announced.

She finished her senior season with 419 kills and helped lead TMP to a sub-state runner-up finish.

Natasha Dreher served as Lane's coach for a total of six years.

⚾ Salvador Perez earns fourth Louisville Silver Slugger Award

It is a commitment that stuck since the summer before Dylan Dreiling's freshman year at Hays High. The now-senior gave an oral commitment to Tennessee to play baseball for the Volunteers in the summer of 2018. Thursday at Hays High School, he made it official with ink to paper. Originally recruited as a pitcher, Dreiling will be at the plate and in the outfield when he reaches the diamond in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Volunteers were nationally ranked this past season and reached the College Baseball World Series. The left-handed pitcher and hitter for the Indians has started since his first game as a freshman. Playing for his grandfather Frank Leo during that 2019 season, Dreiling batted .323 in 65 at-bats, walking 15 times and striking out on just three occasions. He also clubbed four home runs, including a grand slam in the opening round of regional postseason play.

Like everybody, Dreiling lost his 2020 season to COVID-19 shutdown.

Under coach Dustin Dreher, Dreiling spent the 2021 season batting .430, recording 37 hits on 86 at-bats. He hit three more home runs, walked eight times and struck out just twice. On the mound Dreiling went 9-0 with a 0.50 ERA (the lowest in school history) while opponents hit just .180 against him. The nine wins tied a school record for pitching wins in a single season. He struck out 94 batters while walking 23. He was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year. 

Along with teammate Dalton Dale, Dreiling was named to the All-State 1st Team as well. Dominic Bainter was named to the Second Team.

The 2021 team finished 3rd at the 5A State Tournament.

INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Hays State Men's Soccer is now No. 10 in the latest NCAA Super Region 3 rankings, released on Wednesday (Nov. 10). The Tigers slipped one spot down from No. 9 to No. 10 in the final set of rankings before selections to the NCAA Tournament are announced on Monday following conference tournaments this weekend. The Tigers are now on the bubble for getting into the NCAA Tournament. Ten teams will be selected to compete in the Super Region 3 bracket and the Tigers are now right on the cut line. However, the four conference tournament winners in the super region will receive automatic bids into the tournament, which will leave only six teams to receive at-large bids. It was the first girls tennis state championship in school history. She reached the state championship site three times, placing fourth as a junior in 2020 and seventh as a sophomore in 2019.
