
HAYS - The Hays Hammer went 6-0 and won the Hap Dumont 14U state championship over the weekend at the Bickle/Schmidt Sports Complex.
The Hammer (29-15-3) beat the WBC Brewers 13-3 in Sunday's title game. They scored five runs in the second and seven in the third. C Liles and S Thielen both had three of the Hammer's 15 hits. Liles homered and tripled and drove in six. B Rhoades and M Evans also hit home runs.
Starting pitcher C Drennon went 2 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. Liles pitched a scoreless fourth in the run-rule victory.
Earlier in the day they knocked off the Kansas Commodores 8-0 in the semifinals.
The Hammer went 2-0 in pool play Friday, beating Drive Baseball 12-0 and Spartans Baseball 4-2. They opened bracket play Saturday with a 10-3 win over the Rosehill Rockets then knocked off the Salina Spikes 6-3.
