🏐 FHSU Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team received the 2021-22 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, announced Monday (July 18) by the United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association. This is the eighth consecutive year the Tigers have earned the award.

The Tigers combined for a team GPA of 3.63 during the 2021-22 academic year, the best mark for the team on record. Teams must maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.30 to earn the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

Jessica Wood-Atkins' squad has recorded a GPA north of 3.50 during all four of her seasons at the helm, including a 3.55 in 2020-21, a 3.54 in 2019-20 and a 3.52 in 2018-19.

The volleyball team had 13 student-athletes listed on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll this season, including Morgan Christiansen, Jaden Daffer, Emily Ellis, Mykah Eshbaugh, Elysia Glowacz, Olivia Hessman, Morgan McIntire, Claire Olson, Delanie Patterson, Isabelle Reynolds, Jessica Saunders, Riley Tinder and Jaysa Wichers.

Four Tigers earned additional honors from the conference office, including Christiansen, Olson and Tinder picking up the MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award (All-MIAA honors and at least a 3.50 GPA) and Ellis, Olson and Tinder receiving the MIAA Academic Excellence Award (cumulative 4.00 GPA).
