Errors were very costly to the Tigers in both games as the Jennies won by scores of 10-9 and 6-4. UCM improved to 29-14 overall, 13-7 in the MIAA, while FHSU moved to 25-18 overall, 7-9 in the MIAA. Game 1: Central Missouri 10, Fort Hays State 9 Fort Hays State had a five-run lead going into the bottom of the sixth, only to see Central Missouri benefit from a pair of very costly errors and rally for six runs in the inning to get past FHSU. The Tigers scored first, benefitting from Central Missouri's only error of the game in the top of the first.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/peyton-shepard/7094">Peyton Shepard</a>&nbsp;reached by error to open the game. She eventually reached third and came in to score on an RBI double by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/loren-beggs/7075">Loren Beggs</a>. The Jennies moved in front with three runs in the bottom half of the first. A two-out, two-run homer pushed them into the lead, 3-1. A ground out pushed their first run across, but then a Tiger error for what should have been the second out started a bad chain of events. A two-run triple made it 9-7, then an RBI single made it 9-8. UCM used three pitchers in the game and second reliever Kyleigh Lay ended up with a win in 1.1 innings pitched. The Tigers tagged Paige Petefish for six runs (five earned) runs in 3.0 innings, then reliever Mandy Hansen for three runs in 2.2 innings. Game 2: Central Missouri 6, Fort Hays State 4 Just like game one, the Tigers took a healthy lead before seeing the Jennies rally right back to tie the game. UCM ended up winning in walk-off fashion on a two-run homer in the seventh. Central Missouri took the initial lead in the game, 1-0 in the first inning. A leadoff walk preceded an RBI double by Ashlyn Cook. The error before Fischer's home run in the fifth was the only unearned run of the game. Kyleigh Lay was able to vulture her second win of the day by getting all three outs in the seventh. 🥎 Central Missouri rallies twice to sweep Tigers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Vaughn Grissom hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth, Ozzie Albies homered and the Atlanta Braves beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 on Sunday for the series sweep.

Grissom's RBI single came after Albies hit a one-out double. Albies went 2 for 4, including his 376-foot solo homer to right field in the fourth for his fifth RBI of the series. Matt Olson hit a two-run triple in Atlanta's three-run third inning.

“Our guys are relentless and will play a hard 27 outs," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "We never feel out of a game and don’t panic, it is the next-man-up attitude.”

Atlanta starter Kyle Wright struck out six across 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walk. Relievers Michael Tonkin and Nick Anderson (1-0) combined to strike out three batters, and A.J. Minter got his third save of the year.

“Obviously I was happy that we won,” Wright said. “The sinker and curveball were really good. We threw the ball well and the defense made some nice plays.”

Zack Greinke gave up four runs on four hits in six innings with six strikeouts and a walk. Scott Barlow (0-2) allowed a run on two hits with two strikeouts.

“(Greinke) was efficient with good offspeed, fastball had good movement," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. "His velocity was consistent with how it’s been. He really attacked hitters.”

Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 4 with two outs in the seventh.

Atlanta took its first sweep over the Royals since 2010 — and the first ever in Kansas City.

The Royals are 1-9 at Kauffman Stadium this season. Kansas City went 1-12 at home to start the 2018 season.

Royals: LHP Kris Bubic (left flexor strain) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Kansas City recalled LHP Josh Taylor from Triple-A Omaha.

Royals: RHP Jordan Lyles (0-2, 5.19 ERA) will open a three-game home series against Texas on Tuesday.

Braves: Atlanta will head to San Diego for a three-game set. The Braves have yet to announce a starter for Monday's game.

⚾ Grissom RBI, Albies HR push Braves past Royals

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Fort Hays State baseball team fell in the rubber match of their series with Missouri Western on Sunday, 6-5. The game was tied at the end of the ninth and the Tigers managed to take the lead in the tenth, but the Griffons walked it off in the home half to take the series finale and claim the series victory. FHSU falls to 18-26 overall and 8-19 in the MIAA and MWSU improves to 11-28 overall and 8-19 in the conference.

The Griffons struck first in the second frame taking a 3-0 lead, but the Tigers leveled the contest in the top of the third.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/colter-maldonado/7264">Colter Maldonado</a>&nbsp;led off the inning with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/ed-scott/6827">Ed Scott</a>&nbsp;stepped up and smashed a ball to straightaway center for a two-run home run, Scott's second homer of the series. The scoring continued as the Tigers took advantage of three free trips to load the bases before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/mikey-felton/6810">Mikey Felton</a>&nbsp;worked a two-out walk to tie the game, 3-3.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/cade-flaherty/6811">Cade Flaherty</a>&nbsp;retired the Griffons in order in the bottom of the inning and the Tigers plated another run in the fourth to take the lead.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/joel-nieves/7267">Joel Nieves</a>&nbsp;singled up the middle followed by a double from Scott putting a pair of runners in scoring position. A sacrifice fly from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/jenner-kehe/6818">Jenner Kehe</a>&nbsp;plated Nieves to give FHSU a 4-3 lead. Flaherty was able to hold the Griffons scoreless in the fourth, but they tied things up again in the fifth with an RBI single.

The next four innings featured and intense pitcher's battle as neither team was able to plate a run.&nbsp;&nbsp;Flaherty tossed three scoreless frames before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/daniel-bebee/7252">Daniel Bebee</a>&nbsp;came in to throw a scoreless ninth inning. In the tenth,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/zane-knox/7262">Zane Knox</a>&nbsp;drew a leadoff walk in a pinch hit appearance and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/elliott-herrmann/7260">Elliott Herrmann</a>&nbsp;singled through the left side in the next at bat to plate Knox and give FHSU a 5-4 lead.

Missouri Western drew back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the inning before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/spencer-maley/7265">Spencer Maley</a>&nbsp;came in to relieve Bebee. Maley struck out the first batter he faced before walking the next batter loading the bases. A walk-off single up the middle plated two runs for the Griffons giving them the series victory.

Flaherty went eight innings allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out seven batter and walking none. Scott finished 2-for-4 at the plate collecting three RBI's while Herrmann also had a multi-hit performance and drove in a run.

The Tigers will return home next weekend for Pack the Park as they host Northwest Missouri State for a three-game series at Larks Park. Friday's contest is slated for 6 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon start on Sunday.

The game was tied at the end of the ninth and the Tigers managed to take the lead in the tenth, but the Griffons walked it off in the home half to take the series finale and claim the series victory. FHSU falls to 18-26 overall and 8-19 in the MIAA and MWSU improves to 11-28 overall and 8-19 in the conference.The Griffons struck first in the second frame taking a 3-0 lead, but the Tigers leveled the contest in the top of the third.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/colter-maldonado/7264">Colter Maldonado</a>&nbsp;led off the inning with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/ed-scott/6827">Ed Scott</a>&nbsp;stepped up and smashed a ball to straightaway center for a two-run home run, Scott's second homer of the series. Scott finished 2-for-4 at the plate collecting three RBI's while Herrmann also had a multi-hit performance and drove in a run.The Tigers will return home next weekend for Pack the Park as they host Northwest Missouri State for a three-game series at Larks Park. Friday's contest is slated for 6 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon start on Sunday.

🎾Tigers Swept by Henderson State

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Fort Hays State baseball team claimed the series opener over Missouri Western 15-2 on Friday (April 14). After nearly a two-hour delay due to weather, the Tigers only needed seven innings to secure the opener. The Tigers improved to 18-24 overall and 8-17 in the MIAA while the Griffons fall to 9-28 overall and 6-19 in conference action.

The Tigers took advantage of a handful of free trips in the opening frame as&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/isaiah-ural/7272">Isaiah Ural</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/emile-boies/7253">Emile Boies</a>&nbsp;drew back-to-back walks before Elliott Herrman reached on a fielder's choice that was mishandled by the third baseman loading the bases.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/trey-degarmo/7257">Trey DeGarmo</a>&nbsp;drew the third walk of the inning allowing Ural to cross the plate. Ural plated the first run on a groundout up the middle before Boies stepped up and slammed a two-run shot over the right field wall on the first pitch boosting the Tiger lead to 9-2.

The Tigers continued the scoring in the sixth as DeGarmo reached on a single before a throwing error by the pitcher on a bunt from Knox allowed them to move into scoring position. Berg became the fourth pitcher to go the distance for the Tigers this season tallying the sixth complete game for the team this season. The Parker, Colo. native went seven frames allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three batters.

Every Tiger that stepped up to the plate collected a hit in the victory including multi-hit games from six of the nine batters. Felton finished 2-for-4 with four RBI while Ural went 1-for-3 and batted in three runs while drawing a pair of walks.

The series will resume tomorrow (April 15) with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.

⚾Berg, explosive hitting give Tigers statement win in series opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Matt Olson and Austin Riley hit consecutive home runs in a four-run first inning and the Atlanta Braves went deep five times in a 10-3 rout of the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.

Sam Hilliard, Sean Murphy and Ronald Acuña Jr. also homered for the Braves, with Hilliard hitting a 448-foot drive beyond the bullpen in right in the second inning. Murphy had three RBIs.

“Ronnie has been setting the tone like crazy,” Olson said of Acuña. “Every time my spot comes around it feels like I've been hitting with him on base.”

Riley's home run was the 100th of his big league career.

“It's fun to come to the yard every day.,” he said.

Brady Singer (1-1) allowed four of the homers, one shy of his career high, and gave up eight runs and 10 hits in five innings as his ERA rose to 7.88.

“I made some really bad pitches,” Singer said. "It kind of boils down to leaving a lot of pitches middle of the plate there..”

Braves manager Brian Snitker was ejected in the second inning for arguing. Umpires had placed runners on first and second after a ball Olson hit off the left-field wall was ruled foul, then changed to fair. Murphy followed with a two-run double.

“They got the call right, but I don't think they placed the runners in the right spot," Snitker said. "You have one of the fastest guys in Major League Baseball at first and you're going to put him at second base on a ball down the line off the wall? I would have been OK if they would have scored him."

Morton (2-1) allowed three runs — two earned — and six hits in six innings.

“He kept getting out of trouble, and he has pitches to do that," Snitker said.

Vaughn Grissom had an RBI double in the first.

Kansas City scored on Morton's error in the first, Michael Massey's sacrifice fly in the fourth and when Kyle Isbel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth.

JUNCTION CITY — USD 475 Geary County Schools announced Chris Bogenhagen as the interim athletic director for the 2023-24 school year.

Bogenhagen is a graduate of Junction City High School. He attended Dodge City Community College and Fort Hays State University .

He served as coach for multiple programs and has been the president of the Junction City Wrestling Club for fifteen years.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to step into this role at Junction City High School. I wanted to thank the JCHS administration, USD 475 District office and Board of Education for giving me the opportunity to share my passion for athletics. I look forward to working closely with the team at JCHS to positively impact the student athletes in our Blue Jay community," Bogenhagen said.

FHSU alum named Junction City's interim athletic director

The Hays High girls soccer team ran their win streak to
three straight matches Thursday with a 3-0 win over Wichita-Trinity Academy.


Kinslee Newell got the scoring started early, giving the Indians at 1-0 lead just 29 seconds in. She added a second goal of the first half in the 14th minute as Hays led 2-0 at halftime.

Dani Willeford added a third goal for the
Indians in the second half on their way to the 3-0 win. 

Katie Gutierrez saved four shots in net for the Indians who are 6-2.

⚽Indians win third straight

Talia Kahrs was officially introduced as the seventh head coach in Fort Hays State women’s basketball program history in a press conference on Thursday. 

Karhs served 11 years under head coach Tony Hobson before he <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/3b99b288-ea47-4757-8d76-b753a0d1628e">announced his retirement</a>, after 15 years, earlier this spring.

The multi-athletes opened their competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific, while the rest of the squad competed at the one-day Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/ryan-stanley/7194">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;broke the outdoor school record in the pole vault for the second time in less than a week, this time surpassing the bar at 17-7 to climb into a tie for first on the NCAA Division II performance chart so far this season. The senior opened the day with a first attempt clearance at 16-5-2.5 before needing all three attempts to clear the bar at both 16-11 and 17-3. After setting the school record at 17-3.5 just six days ago, the Bennington, Kan. native added on to that record by sailing over the 17-7 bar on his second trip down the runway. He placed third in the 47-man field comprised mostly of DI athletes. 👟Stanley breaks record again in California

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has announced that Scott Goodheart of Pratt will join its staff as director of officials. Goodheart will serve in the role that Francine Martin fulfilled during the 2022-23 school year, the first year for this position at the KSHSAA.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Goodheart has been an active registered official with the KSHSAA for 17 years, working in the sports of volleyball, softball and basketball. Since 2016, Goodheart has held the role of league commissioner for the Heart of the Plains League.

“I am honored and excited to join the KSHSAA team, serving as the director of officials,” Goodheart said. “Interscholastic activities have been an intricate part of my life, participating in sports and activities through high school, working as a registered official since college, and now serving as the Director of Officials. I am excited to serve the officials in the state of Kansas, and hope to help enhance students' experiences in interscholastic activities.”

As the KSHSAA director of officials, Goodheart’s main responsibilities will be to oversee the official’s department at the KSHSAA including the recruitment of new officials, educate and retain all high school activities.

“As a respected veteran official, Scott Goodheart brings firsthand knowledge of service as an interscholastic official," said Bill Faflick, KSHSAA Executive Director. “I am confident his leadership will further the good work of Ms. Martin and the KSHSAA as we seek to recruit, train, and retain officials across the state who ensure regular season and championship tournament competitions are conducted according to prescribed rules for the respective education-based activities.”

Goodheart had been instrumental to officiating off the field as well. From 2016-2019 he served on the KSHSAA Officials Advisory Board and has been a yearly camp/clinician organizer for the western Kansas basketball clinics during the summer.

A member of the National Association of Sports Officials and the Kansas Sports Officials Association, Goodheart was named the NFHS Boys Basketball Official of the Year in 2014. Scott has been an active basketball official in the NJCAA and MIAA.

Prior to joining the KSHSAA this summer, Scott worked at Bucklin Tractor and Implement as a parts sales representative and e-commerce sales. Goodheart received his Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University and his Masters of Sports Administration from Fort Hays State University.

From 2016-2019, Goodheart was an Assistant Athletic Director at Pratt Community College and from 2012-2014 was the Hoisington Recreation Director.

A week after announcing Alijah Jeffery as the first head
coach of the new Fort Hays State Tiger women’s wrestling program, the team
announced on social media this week that Hoxie wrestler Marissa Porsch became the
first commitment in program history.

Fort Hays State announced the addition of women’s wrestling
in November, becoming the first NCAA school to offer the varsity program. The

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Bobby Witt Jr. tripled in front of the hometown crowd, then really turned on the speed with two stolen bases to start a four-run inning for Kansas City.

The son of former Texas pitcher Bobby Witt helped the Royals to season highs in runs and hits as they avoided a three-game sweep with a 10-1 rout of the Rangers on Wednesday night.

<a href="https://www.mlb.com/gameday/718595/play/31">The RBI triple was among three hits</a>&nbsp;for the younger Witt, and his three steals overall were a career high as the Royals ended a three-game losing streak.

“There’s going to be some times this year when he’s going to beat out some routine ground balls,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “I haven’t looked at the time, but those plays are a lot closer than they should be when he hits a ground ball. He’s going to score some runs single-handedly for us.”

MJ Melendez drove in three runs to back another strong outing from Brad Keller,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mlb.com/gameday/718595/play/19">Vinnie Pasquantino homered</a>&nbsp;and the Royals had three consecutive run-scoring singles — the last of their 14 hits — in the four-run seventh after coming in with .190 team batting average while scoring 2.8 runs per game.

It was Keller's 18th consecutive start with a decision, the longest streak in the majors in three years and longest for the Royals since Tim Belcher's 21-start streak in 1996-97.

“The breaking ball was outstanding,” Quatraro said. “You can tell, even when he was pulling the fastball a little bit, he’d get back in the count with the breaking ball and got bad swings.”

Josh Smith started in place of Seager, who was injured running the bases a night earlier, and went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts from the second spot in the order normally occupied by the three-time All-Star.

Kansas City built a 6-1 lead with a big boost from four run-scoring hits with two out. The clutch hits came a night after an 8-5 extra-inning loss in which the Royals went 4 for 20 with runners in scoring position, their most such at-bats in six years.

“It was just a matter of time for when it was going to break open for sure,” Witt said. “They were great at-bats, just not getting the results. So then, now you get results with those at-bats and this is the outcome.”

⚾Witt shines at home, Royals rout Rangers 10-1 to avoid sweep

The TMP-Marian girls track and field team had 17 medal
winners Tuesday as they brought home the team title from the Ellsworth
Invitational.

The Monarchs amassed 97 team points, 31 more than second
place Pratt.

Among the 17 top six finishers were a pair of first place
finishers.

Macara Rohr won the girls triple jump with a distance of 34’
10 ¼ inches. Her teammate Emma Basgall was third and Aliya Seib was fifth.

Seib also earned a pair of second place finishes in the high
jump and long jump. Basgall was third in the long jump and Nevaeh Weigel
finished sixth.

Basgall also earned a fourth place finish in the 100 meters.

Tessa Wentling finished third in the high jump.

Shalee Gottschalk won the girls 100 meter hurdles with a
time of 16.41 seconds. Gottschalk also earned a third place finished in the 300
hurdles.

Anna Cappuccio finished second in the pole vault.

Michaela Dickman earned a fifth place in the 1600 meters and
fourth in the 3200 meters. Ella Bain finished right behind her in fifth.

Dickman, Rachel Staab, Ainsleigh Bain and Allison Weber were
all members of the 4x800 meter relay team that finished fifth.

GOODLAND -&nbsp;The TMP boys golf team finished fourth at the Goodland
Invitational Tuesday at Sugar Hills Golf Club.

The Monarchs combined to shot a 378 as a team, 20 shots
behind Hoxie who won the team title. Ellis was seventh and the Hays High JV
team finished 10th.

TMP’s Pake Dewey led the Monarchs with a sixth place finish
individually. He fired a 15-over 87, six shots off the lead.

Landon Rozean was 17th and Heuer Brungardt
finished 27th.

Ellis’ Austin Carroll was the top finished for the Railers
in 5th. Kaishen Brack was tied for 18th. 

Hays High’s Jaxon Zimmerman finished in a tied for 11th
with a 90.

bounced back with a win in game two 5-1.

GAME 1: Garden City 8, Hays 2 Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning the Indians
plated a pair of runs taking a 2-1 lead.

Riley Dreher tied the game with an RBI double with one out
and then on the second straight dropped third strike of the inning Dreher scored on a passed
ball putting Hays up 2-1.

But the lead was short-lived when the Buffaloes added a run
in the top of the second tying the game at two.

Garden City built on their lead with a four-run fourth and
two more in the seventh on their way to the 8-2 win.

Dreher collected a pair of hits for the Indians. 

Aubree Thomas suffered the loss for Hays High. She allowed
six runs, two earned on six hits with nine strikeouts in four innings.

GAME 2: Hays 5, Garden City 1 The Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the first
inning and that was all they needed to win game two of the doubleheader as
starter Aubree Thomas allowed just one run in the victory.

After back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the first, Riley Dreher cleared the bases with one swing, a three-run homerun, putting Hays
up 3-0.

Thomas scored a run on a passed ball, with the bases loaded
in the third as Hays High took a 4-0 lead.

After Garden City scored a run in the fourth, the Indians
added a fifth run in the bottom of the sixth on a passed ball on their way to the 5-1
victory.

Thomas allowed just one run on five hits with 11 strikeouts
in a complete game victory.

Thomas and Dezarae Schmidt each collected a pair of hits and
Dreher drove in three for the Indians.

The Indians will host Great Bend on Tuesday.

🥎Hays High splits home doubleheader with Garden City

GREAT BEND – The Hays High baseball team split a road
doubleheader Tuesday at Great Bend. The Indians had the lead in game one but
couldn’t hold it in a 5-4 loss. In the second game, Hays scored a run in the top
of the seventh for the 5-4 victory.

GAME 1: Great Bend 5, Hays 4 The Indians jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring single
runs in the first and third innings.

Hays loaded the bases in the top of the first inning
with three straight singles before Bradyn Dreher scored the games first run on
a passed ball. 

After back-to-back singles to open the third, Hays’ Carson
Spray gave the Indians a 2-0 lead with an RBI single.

Leading 2-1, Hays plated two runs in the top of the sixth
inning building a 4-1 lead. Their first run came on an error and then Jack
Weimer added a sacrifice fly putting Hays up by three, but it was a lead they
couldn’t hold onto.

Great Bend scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and
then earned the walk-off victory on an RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 5-4 win.

Dreher collected three hits and Spray and Weimer each drove
in a run. Tanner Boxberger allowed a run on four hits in the seventh and
suffered the loss.

GAME 2: Hays 5, Great Bend 4 In the final game of the day the Indians got a run in the
top of the seventh, breaking at 4-4 tie, in a 5-4 victory.

Just like in the first game, Hays (5-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead
in the third inning. Derrik Riggs drove in the games first run, in the top of
the first inning, on an RBI groundout putting Hays up 1-0.

The Indians added a second run in the top of the third
inning on a Riggs RBI single giving Hays a 2-0 lead.

Great Bend got a run in the bottom of the third but Hays
answered with two in the fourth.

Toby May doubled in the first run and then scored on an RBI
groundout by Cooper Sanders giving Hays a 4-1 lead.

Great Bend scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and
tied the game at four with a run in the fifth inning.

With the game still tied in the top of the seventh, Sanders
led off the inning with a single and Bradyn Dreher doubled him in putting Hays
up 5-4.

Sanders collected three hits in the Indians victory.

Cooper Johnson earned the win for Hays High with three
innings of relief. He allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts.

The Hays High Indians host Dodge City for two next Tuesday.

answered with two in the fourth.Toby May doubled in the first run and then scored on an RBI
groundout by Cooper Sanders giving Hays a 4-1 lead.Great Bend scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and
tied the game at four with a run in the fifth inning.With the game still tied in the top of the seventh, Sanders
led off the inning with a single and Bradyn Dreher doubled him in putting Hays
up 5-4.Sanders collected three hits in the Indians victory.Cooper Johnson earned the win for Hays High with three
innings of relief. He allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts.The Hays High Indians host Dodge City for two next Tuesday.

Jacob deGrom earlier in the game had nine strikeouts to break a Texas record that had been held by Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan. Adolis Garcia tied the game with a two-out RBI single and Josh Jung then walked before Heim's 403-foot drive to right off Scott Barlow. While deGrom ended up with a no-decision, the nine Ks pushed his season total to 27 and set a new mark for a Rangers pitcher in his first three appearances — that had been Ryan’s 26 after he joined the team in 1989.
