AZUSA, Calif. — Three school records and eight national qualifying marks were the highlights of day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational for the Fort Hays State track and field teams on Friday (April 14). One of the school records, the women's 5,000m run, was broken once early in the day and once in the final action of the night for the Tigers.

The day opened with Jaycee Vath setting the school record in the 5,000m run, completing the race in 17:20.22. Her time was more than 11 seconds faster than the previous school-best that was set six years ago. The sophomore placed 17th in the Open B section of the race that was comprised of 101 runners. Darian Hudgeons completed the race in 18:16.43, 12th-fastest at FHSU during the DII era.

That record stood for all of nine hours, with indoor 5,000m record holder and cross country All-American Regan Hodsden turning in a time of 16:47.77. She finished ninth out of 31 runners in the third heat of the Open A section, with her time currently ranking 11th this season in Division II.

Emily Salmans broke her own school record by more than a full second in the 800m run, crossing the line in 2:10.52. The senior placed fourth out of 144 competitors, many of whom represented Division I programs, in the Open section of the event. The national qualifying time currently ranks 10th in Division II this season pending results from around the country this weekend.

The men's mid-distance trio of Trever MedinaEthan Lang and Aaron Mangan followed in the men's Invitational section of the 800m run, with all three surpassing the national qualifying time. Medina led the way with a personal-best 1:50.03, placing him third on the FHSU DII era performance chart and good for 50th out of 135 runners. Lang was 63rd with a time of 1:50.62, while Mangan clocked in with a season-best time of 1:51.30 to place 80th.

All three Tigers competing in the heptathlon also surpassed the national qualifying mark. Mattie Rossi was 11th in the Group A section, compiling 4,962 points. Taylor Savolt finished sixth in Group B with 4,741 points, while Chloe Stanley was 19th in Group C with 4,530 points.

Rossi's top event of day two was the 800m run, where she totaled 844 points with a time of 2:18.48. Savolt tacked on 819 points in the final event of the week with a time of 2:20.32 in the 800m, while Stanley's time of 2:21.85 was good for 799 points.

Jonah Remsberg competed in the first two events of day two of the decathlon, running 15.88 in the 110m hurdles to collect 746 points.

The Tigers will wrap up competition in California with day three of the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday (April 15), while the remainder of the team heads to Kearney, Neb. for the Loper Invitational Saturday afternoon.
