A week after announcing Alijah Jeffery as the first head coach of the new Fort Hays State Tiger women’s wrestling program, the team announced on social media this week that Hoxie wrestler Marissa Porsch became the first commitment in program history.

Porsch spent her freshman season with coach Jeffery at Chardon State College in Nebraska. She finished with a record of 28-7 and just missed out on qualifying for the national championships with a fifth place finish at the NCWWC Region V tournament in February.

She finished with a 104-14 high school record and claimed the 4-1A state championship at 138 pounds her senior season.

Porsch's father, Mike, led the Hoxie boys team to its third straight 3-2-1A state championship last season — the 13th in school history.

Lila Bloomer, a Callaway, Neb., native is also set to join the program after wrestling at Chadron State last season.

Fort Hays State announced the addition of women’s wrestling in November, becoming the first NCAA school to offer the varsity program. The program will be competing in the 2024-25 season.
