INDIANAPOLIS - The Fort Hays State track and field teams will send 10 individuals to Pueblo, Colo. for the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships next week. Those 10 student-athletes, including five men and five women, will be competing in 14 events, eight on the women's side and six on the men's side. Colorado State-Pueblo will host the 2023 outdoor championships May 25-27 at the ThunderBowl. The Tigers will have no less than three student-athletes competing each day, including two in multi-events, one in a field event final and four in running prelims on Thursday, two in multi-events and four in running prelims on Friday and three in field event finals and up to eight in the finals on the track on Saturday. He set the outdoor school record with a clearance of 17-7 this year and set the indoor school record to win his indoor national title at 17-9.25 last year. Rossi is competing at nationals for the fifth time in her career overall and the third time outdoors. She has qualified to compete in the heptathlon each of the last three years and is competing in both hurdles events for the second year in a row. She is a seven-time All-American, including a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles last season. Holman is also competing in her fifth national championships, earning seven All-American honors at the previous four national meets. This is the third year in a row the Junction City, Kan. native has qualified for both the 100m dash and 200m dash outdoors. Landrum is making his seventh trip to the NCAA Championship, including four outdoor national meets and three indoor. He's earned three All-American honors in the past. This is his first time competing in the 100m dash at the national level and the third time he has qualified in the 200m dash (2x outdoor, 1x indoor). The Wichita, Kan. native set the school record in the 100m dash this season, running in 10.23. Churchman is headed to his fifth-consecutive national meet dating back to the 2021 outdoor meet. He's been on the national podium in the multi-events at each of the last three competitions, finishing fifth in the decathlon outdoors last season and seventh at each of the last two indoor heptathlons. He has four total All-American trophies, including one in the 4x400m relay. Berens is headed to the national meet in the javelin throw for the third year in a row. She earned All-American status each of the last two years, finishing fourth last year and 11th in 2021. Brown is also competing at nationals for the third year in a row. She enters the final meet of the season with the top qualifying mark amongst all competitors thanks to her top heave of 159-10 last month at the Central Nebraska Challenge. 👟 FHSU qualifies 10 for Outdoor National Championships

HAYS - The Hays High girls' soccer team has advanced to their 5A regional title game after a 6-1 win over Hutchinson Tuesday at Hays High School.

All six of the Indians goals came in the first half. Dani Willeford recorded a hat trick a and had two assits. Arely Maldonado added two goals. Annie Humphrey also assisted on two goals.

Willeford got the Indians on the board early, scoring off a pass from Humphrey in the first minute. Kinslee Newell scored a minute later on a pass from Katie Dinkel. Maldonado made it a 3-0 lead with a goal in the ninth minute on an assist from Willeford who added back-to-back goals in the 23rd and 28th minute. Maldonado closed out the scoring with an assist from Willeford in the 32nd minute.

Hutchinson scored their lone goal in the 56th minute.

The Indians (13-4) will play Andover Central in the reginal final Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Andover. The Jaguars blanked Goddard 3-0 Tuesday.

WICHITA - Hays High's season came to a close in the opening round of Regional play at Westurban in Wichita Tuesday. The Indians fell to Great Bend 3-1.

The Panthers plated two runs in the second inning on just one hit but took advantage of four walks. 

Hays got their only run in the top of the fourth inning. Greg Hughes led the inning off with a double. Carter Graham drove in courtesy runner Johnathan Cano to cut the lead down to 2-1.

Great Bend got the run back in the bottom of the same inning for the final margin.

Greg Hughes took the loss for Hays, pitching six innings allowing three runs. He struck out three, walked five and allowed three hits. Carson Umphries notched the win for Great Bend. He allowed one run on four hits, striking out three and hitting one batter.

The Indians' season ends at 11-10. Great Bend moves to the Regional Championship at 12-9.

Zach Berg and Ed Scott&nbsp;of Fort Hays State Baseball were named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Team for 2023, announced on Tuesday. College Sports Communicators (CSC) is the new name for College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), changed prior to the start of the 2022-23 academic year. This award honors a combination of academic and athletic accomplishments of the individuals selected. Berg completed his degree in Health and Human Performance (Sport and Exercise Therapy), graduating with a 3.73 GPA. He made 14 appearances on the mound as a senior, including nine starts and one complete game. The Parker, Colo. native struck out a career-high 40 batters this season, including seven in one start against Missouri Southern. He finished his Tiger career with 37 appearances, 160.1 innings pitched and 111 strikeouts over four seasons at FHSU. Scott completed his studies with a GPA of 3.90 while double-majoring in Technology Studies (Engineering Design) and Management. He was one of two players in the lineup to start all 50 games for the Tigers, with the senior patrolling right field in each contest this season. Wrapping up his third season at Fort Hays State, Scott led the Tigers with an on-base percentage of .474. He also led the squad in runs (54), doubles (16), walks (35), hit-by-pitches (10) and stolen bases (11) while adding nine home runs and three triples. He ranks in the top 10 in the MIAA in several categories, including on-base percentage, runs, doubles, triples and walks. An MIAA honorable mention pick, the Manhattan, Kan. native tallied five outfield assists on the year and totaled 95 putouts. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Michael Wacha has been closer to pitching a no-hitter than he came Monday night, when he didn't allow a hit until Michael Massey singled leading off the eighth inning.

It was still a thrill for the 31-year-old Wacha, whose strong effort in his eighth start with his new team helped the struggling San Diego Padres beat the Kansas City Royals 4-0.

“I’ve been one out away and three outs away as well. Been flirting with it a few times now," Wacha said after striking out a career-high 11 and ending the Padres' five-game losing streak. "When the time’s right we’ll see what goes down.”

Massey’s hit to right field came on Wacha’s 103rd pitch and manager Bob Melvin immediately came out to pull the right-hander, who left to a standing ovation from the sellout crowd of 43,828. Nick Martinez came on and retired the side and then finished the combined two-hitter.

“I was doing the math in there. Would have loved a three-pitch inning there in the eighth and another one in the ninth," Wacha said. "Just trying to stay on the attack; maybe they would hit it to somebody, get some swing and misses in the zone. Just left a changeup there in the eighth and he put a good swing on it and hit the ball.”

Wacha said he and catcher Austin Nola continued with their typical discussions between innings as the game went along.

“I would say everything was pretty normal,” Wacha said. “I didn't like change jerseys or anything that I normally would. It was like, ‘Hey, this jersey’s working out pretty well for me right now.' I kept the same hat on. Usually I'm sweating through it. It was a nice night out there. I didn't sweat too much. Just rode with it.”

There were a few moments of confusion at the end as a fan ran onto the field just as Nick Pratto took a called strike three. The umpires huddled and ruled that the pitch from Martinez counted.

Wacha (4-1), signed as a free agent on Feb. 16, walked one. He had a perfect game going before hitting Edward Olivares with a pitch with one out in the fifth. Wacha walked Bobby Witt Jr. with two outs in the sixth before first baseman Jake Cronenworth made a terrific diving stop of Vinnie Pasquantino’s grounder to preserve the no-hit bid.

“He was getting a lot of swings and misses early,” Melvin said. “He had them really off balance today. Early on you had a pretty good idea that he was going to pitch a good game. A little uncomfortable there with sending him back out there for the eighth. Obviously we were going to go hitter by hitter.”

Joe Musgrove threw the Padres' only no-hitter on April 9, 2021, in his second start with his hometown team.

Melvin said he always agonizes “a lot” over pitch counts during a no-hit bid, and said he also had to keep in mind Wacha's history of injuries.

“Everybody else has a great time. I don't. My starting pitchers were giving me a little bit of a hard time because they were having a good time with it but they knew I was not," Melvin said.

Fernando Tatis Jr. had two hits, scored a run and drove in another as the Padres took advantage of Brad Keller's wildness to fix their offensive woes, for one night, at least.

Tatis singled leading off the first and advanced on Manny Machado's groundout and Keller's error. Keller then threw a wild pitch to the backstop that allowed Tatis to score.

Keller (3-4) walked four and hit a batter with a pitch to load the bases three times in the second, but the Padres were able to score only two runs. Tatis hit an RBI single and the other run came in when Machado was hit on the hand by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Tatis tried to score when a pitch briefly got away from Salvador Perez, but the catcher gathered it in and tagged him out. Juan Soto reloaded the bases with a walk before Xander Bogaerts grounded out weakly to end the threat.

Keller was pulled after issuing consecutive walks with two outs in the fourth, giving him eight for the night, against just two strikeouts. He allowed three runs, two earned, and three hits.

Padres: Machado came out of the game in the fourth. ... LHP Drew Pomeranz (elbow, neck) was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Former Ellis standout Tegan Cain has committed to play baseball at the University of Kansas. Cain made the announcement on Twitter Monday evening.

Cain was the Class 2-1A Player of the year in 2021. The hard-throwing right hander is 8-2 with a 3.52 ERA at Barton Community College this spring.

SALINA – The first time the TMP-Marian Monarchs and the Sacred Hearts
squared off this season the two teams combined to score 52 runs on 43 hits, in a
split doubleheader. History would not repeat itself Monday in the 2-1A regional
opener as a pitchers’ duel broke out with the Knights edging the Monarchs 4-1.

Both TMP starter Carson Liles and Sacred Heart starter Cameron
Yohe faced the minimum through the first three innings with only one hit
allowed by Liles, before the runner was eared trying to steal second base.

Liles struck out seven of the first nine batters he faced.

TMP threatened in the top of the fourth inning when Caden Dinkel
led off the inning with the first TMP hit and Carson Liles walked but both runners were stranded in scoring position.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning the Knights
broke onto the scoreboard taking advantage of four hits, three extra base hits, and an error, scoring four runs in the inning for a 4-0 lead.

The Monarchs broke through in the top of the sixth inning,
scoring on a Kendall Walker double making it 4-1 Sacred Heart.

Yohe struck out the side in the Monarchs next turn at the
plate, in the top of the seventh, to secure the 4-1 Knights victory.

TMP starter Carson Liles allowed four runs, three earned, on
seven hits with a career-high 13 strikeouts in six innings.

Cameron Yohe allowed just one run on three hits with three
walks and seven strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Caden Dinkel, Drew Werth and Kendall Walker all finished
1-for-3 for TMP.

Sacred Heart will take on Ellis Wednesday in the second
semifinal game at Hobart-Detter in Hutchinson.

Ellis defeated Wilson 14-0 in five innings in the first game
in Salina Monday.

⚾ TMP comes up short in regional matchup with Sacred Heart

HAYS – The Hays High boys golf team used their home course
to their advantage Monday. The Indians shot a 359 which was good enough for
third place at the Hays 5A Regional at Smoky Hill Country Club. Salina South won
the regional title with a 353, two shots ahead of Hutchinson and six better
than Hays High.

Hutchinson’s Ty Adkins won the individual title with a 7-over-par
78. Salina South sophomore Jackson Perry was three shots back and finished
second with a 10-over-par 81. The Cougars Maddox Xaysongkham finished in third
place with an 82.

Hays High had four golfers finish in the top-20. Landen Clark
placed sixth with a 17-over-par 88, Ashton Bickle was one shot back and finished
in seventh place with an 89. Blake Buckles fired a 91 and was part of a seven-way
tie for 10th place which included freshman Caleb Thompson.

⛳ HHS finishes third at own regional, qualifies for state

HOXIE – The TMP-Marian Monarchs boys golf team finished in
third place at Monday’s Hoxie 2A Regional and qualified for next week’s 2A
state tournament. Hill City shot a 322 and won the team title by four shots
over host Hoxie. The Monarchs shot a 351 which was seven shots better than fourth
place Rawlins County.

Hill City junior Dylan Budig fired an even-par 71 and won
the individual title, six shots better than TMP-Marian’s Pake Dewey who
finished second with a 6-over-par 78. Hoxie’s Noah Dowell finished third with a
79.

Ellis junior Austin Carroll qualified as an individual after
shooting a 10-over-par 82 and finished in sixth place. Plainville sophomores Noah
Brewster and Jayden Morris also qualified for state. Brewster tied for ninth place with
an 83 and Morris tied for 11th with an 84.

The 2A State Tournament will be held at the Hesston Golf Course
in Hesston on Monday and Tuesday, May 22-23.

Beginning next year, high school basketball teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the “bonus.” This change to Rule 4-8-1 eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw.

Rules changes were approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Basketball Rules Committee at its annual meeting April 24-26&nbsp;in Indianapolis. The recommendations were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

In addition to awarding two foul shots for all common fouls, teams will reach the bonus when their opponent commits five fouls in each quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter. Previously, teams were awarded the one-and-one bonus when their opponents committed seven fouls in a half and two foul shots when 10 fouls were committed each half.

“The rules committee studied data that showed higher injury rates on rebounding situations and saw this as an opportunity to reduce opportunities for rough play during rebounds,” said Lindsey Atkinson, NFHS Director of Sports and liaison to the Basketball Rules Committee. “Additionally, resetting the fouls each quarter will improve game flow and allow teams to adjust their play by not carrying foul totals to quarters two and four.”

The throw-in procedure for front-court violations was simplified in Rules 7-5-2 through 7-5-5. When the ball is in team control in the offensive team’s frontcourt and the defensive team commits a violation, a common foul prior to the bonus, or the ball becomes dead, the corresponding throw-in by the offensive team will be at one of four designated spots determined by where the infraction took place. The designated spots are either the nearest 28-foot mark along each sideline or the nearest spot 3 feet outside the lane line on the end line. The one exception is when the defensive team causes a ball to be out of bounds, the throw-in shall be the spot where the ball went out of bounds.

Throw-in administration was also addressed in a change to Rule 7-6-6. When an official administers a throw-in to the wrong team, the error can be fixed before the first dead ball after the ball becomes live unless there has been a change in possession.

This provides an opportunity for schools with hard-to-find colors to have all players wear a black undershirt.</li><li>Rule 9-3-3 was amended to allow a player to step out of bounds and return to the court if the player gains no advantage. A player is penalized only if, after returning inbounds, the player is the first to touch the ball or avoids a violation.</li>

🏀 Changes to high school free throws in 2023-24

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State Director of Athletics Gene Taylor announced today that head
football coach Chris Klieman, who guided the Wildcats to a Big 12
Championship in 2022, has signed a new eight-year contract that sees him at the
helm of the program through the 2030 season.

Klieman, who is entering his fifth year in Manhattan in
2023, will be paid an average base salary of $5.5 million throughout the life
of the contract.

“Chris has done an unbelievable job building a program in
four years that not only has won a Big 12 Championship, but even more
importantly, one that players have taken great pride in and helped sustain a
championship culture,” Taylor said. “He is a tremendous fit for K-State and
Manhattan, and we want to continue to ride the momentum that he and his staff
have fostered. We are excited that Chris will be the leader of our football
program for many years to come.”

Klieman holds a 30-20 record at K-State, which includes a
10-4 record last season when the Wildcats won the 2022 Big 12 Championship with
a 31-28 overtime victory over No. 3 TCU. It was K-State’s third Big 12 title
and first since 2012, while it was the Wildcats’ first 10-win season in 10
years. Additionally, K-State is 5-3 against teams ranked in the top 10 of the
Associated Press poll since Klieman took over the reins in 2019, the most
victories over top-10 teams by any Big 12 program over the span. A
school-record three of those wins came during the 2022 season.

K-State concluded the 2022 season ranked No. 9 in the
College Football Playoff Top 25, the Wildcats’ second-highest ranking ever in
the CFP era and the highest for the final poll. The Wildcats also finished No.
14 in the final Associated Press Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Poll, their highest
final ranking in each since 2012.

Under Klieman’s watch, running back Deuce Vaughn became just
the second player in school history to earn back-to-back Consensus All-America
honors when he picked up the nod again in 2022. Vaughn was one of three
Wildcats to earn First Team All-America accolades in 2022 – the most by K-State
in a single season since 2003 – and one of five overall All-Americans – the
most since 2012.

The other two First Team All-Americans also earned
individual awards from the Big 12 coaches as Felix Anudike-Uzomah was named the
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year,
while Cooper Beebe was the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year. In all,
Klieman helped produce 17 All-Big 12 performers in 2022, the most by K-State
since 2012.

The Wildcats had four players drafted off the 2022 team,
including Anudike-Uzomah who was the first-round selection of the Kansas City
Chiefs to become the first Wildcat selected in the first round since 2009.
Cornerback Julius Brents was selected in the second round – No. 44 overall – by
the Indianapolis Colts, marking the first time in school history that two
Wildcats were selected within the first 44 picks of an NFL Draft. Additionally,
Vaughn (Dallas Cowboys) and Josh Hayes (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) were picked in
the sixth round of the draft.

A proven winner with a championship history, Klieman was
named the 35th head football coach in Kansas State history on December 10,
2018. His 30 wins are the most in school history by a head coach in their first
four years and already the fifth most total wins overall in school history.
Included in those 30 overall wins, Klieman has kept the Governor’s Cup trophy
in Manhattan with four victories over in-state rival KU, has collected 20 Big
12 Conference wins and seen his teams play in three bowl games.

Thanks to his 30 wins in Manhattan, Klieman holds a career
head coaching record of 102-33 as his 75.6% winning percentage ranks fourth
among current FBS coaches that have led programs for at least 10 seasons,
trailing only Clemson’s Dabo Swinney (80.5%), Alabama’s Nick Saban (80.1%) and
James Madison’s Curt Cignetti (76.1%).

Not only has Klieman’s tenure produced success on the field,
but his mantra of “how you do one thing is how you do everything” has brought
success in the classroom. Over Klieman’s first four seasons, K-State has a
combined 133 Academic All-Big 12 honors – the second most in the conference
during that timeframe – which includes a school record 34 in each of the last
two seasons. Additionally, the Wildcats boast a pair of National Football
Foundation National Scholar-Athletes under Klieman in Adam Holtorf (2019) and
Adrian Martinez (2022).

K-State opens the 2023 season by hosting Southeast Missouri
State on September 2 and Troy on September 9. The Wildcats then visit former
conference foe Missouri on September 16 before opening Big 12 play by hosting
new conference member UCF on September 23.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Christian Yelich continued to heat up at the plate and created even more fireworks on the basepaths as he helped the Milwaukee Brewers complete a sweep of the Kansas City Royals.

After homering twice on Saturday,&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/BallySportWI/status/1657814065324982281">Yelich went deep again</a>&nbsp;Sunday in the Brewers' 9-6 victory. He also hit an RBI single and scored on a bizarre play as part of Milwaukee’s seven-run outburst in the third inning.

Yelich is batting .348 (16 of 46) with four homers and 12 RBIs in May. The 2018 NL MVP hit just .228 with three homers and 11 RBIs in April.

“I'm just making adjustments and just trying to find ways to contribute,” Yelich said. “You're constantly tinkering with things and trying to be the best version of yourself, whatever that is, each day. For me, each day's a new day."

The Royals led 4-1 before it all fell apart for them in the bottom of the third. Yelich was at the center of that rally.

After his RBI single put runners on the corners with nobody out in the third, Yelich attempted to steal second.&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/BallySportWI/status/1657826078574927875">That’s when things got weird.</a>

Royals shortstop Maikel Garcia missed the throw from Perez, and Joey Wiemer raced home from third as the ball went into the outfield. After sliding into second, Yelich got up and took off for third.

The throw from center fielder Nate Eaton took a couple of bounces, went through Dozier's legs and appeared to bounce off the body of Brewers third-base coach Jason Lane. As the ball started to roll back toward home in foul territory, Yelich headed toward the plate.

Dozier chased down the ball, dove and pushed the ball toward Perez, but his toss couldn’t get there before Yelich slid home safely with the tying run. Garcia and Eaton were charged with errors on the play.

“I don't really think (Eaton's throw) was off line,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “I think it just got hidden behind the runner going second to third, so Dozier couldn't find it. He said as it came out from underneath the runner, he tried to block it and it just got through him, and then obviously it got kicked by the third base coach and it was just a comedy of errors at that point.”

Owen Miller delivered an RBI double later in the inning. Brice Turang capped the rally by sending a 2-2 changeup from Jose Cuas over the center-field wall for a 408-foot blast.

Royals starter Jordan Lyles (0-7) allowed seven runs – all earned – in 2 1/3 innings. Lyles owns a 7.14 ERA in his first season with the Royals, who signed him to a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-sports-kansas-city-royals-jordan-lyles-cb8526645597044d4449d08d7c5ad65a">two-year, $17 million contract</a>&nbsp;last December.

Milwaukee's Eric Lauer (4-4) struck out six and allowed two runs, two walks and two hits over 5 1/3 innings in his first relief appearance since 2021. Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell had said Saturday the Brewers would skip Lauer’s next scheduled start.

Lauer, who had lost his last three starts, entered in the fourth and didn't allow a hit until Dozier and Witt homered off him in the ninth.

“Overall it was a good job of kind of what I wanted to go out there and feel as far as just getting on the mound, competing and just kind of letting it loose and not worrying about how long I'm going to be in there and how many pitches I'm going to have to throw,” Lauer said. “It's that bullpen kind of mentality that I have to have. It was a good flip-switch for me.”

As the ball started to roll back toward home in foul territory, Yelich headed toward the plate.Dozier chased down the ball, dove and pushed the ball toward Perez, but his toss couldn’t get there before Yelich slid home safely with the tying run. Garcia and Eaton were charged with errors on the play.“I don't really think (Eaton's throw) was off line,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “I think it just got hidden behind the runner going second to third, so Dozier couldn't find it. ⚾  Big third inning lifts Brewers past Royals to complete sweep

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rookie Joey Wiemer’s sacrifice fly with one out in the ninth inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.

Christian Yelich homered twice for Milwaukee, with the second tying it at 3 in the sixth with a shot off Josh Taylor, who relieved starter Zack Greinke to begin the inning.

Brian Anderson opened the ninth with a single off Carlos Hernandez (0-1), who came on in relief to start the inning. Owen Miller’s one-out double sent Anderson to third. Wiemer then sent an 0-1 pitch deep enough to center to easily score Anderson — and then got a Gatorade shower from his jubilant teammates to celebrate the win.

“I’m not sitting on a pitch in that situation," Wiemer said. "Just trying to get anything I can flick out in the outfield, do my job. Not trying to do too much there.”

Devin Williams (3-0) got the victory with a perfect ninth.

Salvador Perez opened the fifth with his eighth homer to put the Royals up 3-2, chasing starter Adrian Houser.

Houser, making his second start after four rehab starts at Triple-A, allowed three runs and eight hits as the Royals left six aboard through four innings, including three in scoring position.

“He was able to get out of it,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “The at-bats were good. Even when we got out in those situations, it wasn’t like just weak contact or whatever. We got into deeper counts and he made some pitches.”

Yelich tied it at 2 in the third with his fifth home run. Brice Turang led off with an infield single. And with two outs, Yelich sent a 2-0 pitch 427 feet to center.

Yelich is batting .333 (14-for-42) over his last 11 games with three homers, a double, 10 RBIs, three walks, three stolen bases and eight runs scored.

“I’m just making adjustments, trying to be consistent up there and string together really good, quality at-bats and see what happens,” Yelich said. “They haven’t all really been falling. You’ve just got to stick with it and just try and continue to put good at-bats together, good swings.”

The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the first when Bobby Witt Jr. doubled, advanced on an infield single and scored on M.J. Melendez’s sacrifice fly.

Kansas City made it 2-0 in the third on consecutive two-out doubles by Melendez and Nick Pratto.

Greinke ended his five-inning outing by getting Wiemer on a called third strike, becoming the fifth pitcher in major league history to strike out 1,000 different batters — joining Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens.

“I don’t ever think about it. I’ve heard about it a couple times, but it didn’t really cross my mind,” said Greinke, whose teammates were cheering from the dugout. “I still didn’t know anything was going on and then they were a little more excited than normal. I was like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s what happened.’”

Royals: Perez returned after being scratched Friday with blurry vision.

LHP Eric Lauer, who has lost his last three starts, will skip a turn, but will be available out of the bullpen, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Saturday. Lauer lasted just 3 2/3 innings on Tuesday, giving up four runs — three earned — in a 6-2 loss to the Dodgers. Lauer has given up eight homers and walked 16 in 34 1/3 innings.

With the Royals bullpen giving up the lead, Greinke is winless in his last 21 road starts since a 4-1 victory on Aug. 13, 2021, at Anaheim when he was with Houston. Greinke was 0-11 with a 6.32 ERA in his previous 20 road starts.

SEWARD, Neb. - The Fort Hays State track and field team opened last chance weekend at the Concordia Twilight Friday afternoon (May 12). A prolonged lightning delay created a delay in the availability of results. Six Tigers competed in field events, with four of the six clearing the national qualifying threshold with their performance. After improving his PR by nearly 10 feet last week at the MIAA Championships,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/kolgan-ohl/7186">Kolgan Ohl</a>&nbsp;topped that once again on Friday. He finished fourth with a top toss of 196-9, a mark that currently ranks inside the top 20 in Division II this season, the minimum number of selections for the outdoor championships. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-track-and-field/roster/ryan-stanley/7194">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;finished second after clearing the bar at 17-0.75. The senior has now cleared 17 feet at five of his last six meets entering his eighth and final NCAA Division II Championship. Stanley's school record of 17-7 ranks third in Division II this season. He is one of just nine DII competitors to clear 17 feet this season. Sitting in second place in the javelin throw entering the final rotation,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-track-and-field/roster/addie-berens/7115">Addie Berens</a>&nbsp;won the javelin throw with a heave of 142-7 on her last attempt. 👟 Tigers record four national qualifying marks in the field at Concordia

PHILLIPSBURG – The Hoxie boys and Phillipsburg girls won the
Mid-Continent League track and field meet Friday. 

The Indians won five events and scored 158 points, 42 more
than second place Norton who won six events. Smith Center finished in third
place with 58.5 points. The Panther girls won six events and scored 114 points,
12 more than second place Norton. Ellis finished third with 75.

Hoxie’s Drew Bretz won four gold medals. He won the 400
(51.10) and 800 (2:07.89) and was on the first place 4x400 relay team 3:29.58) along
with Ryan Shaw, Jonathan Mader and Kane Epp. Bretz was also on the first place
4x800 relay team (8:49.23) along with Connor Diercks, Duncan Bell and Levi
Gleason. Hoxie’s other first place finish was from Aaron Keith in the 3200 meters
(10:50.33).

Norton’s Dean Clark also won four gold medals. He won the 100
(11.28) and 200 (23.19) meters along with the triple jump (45-07.50) and he was
on the winning 4x100 relay (44.14) along with Silas Jones, Tyler Backman and Tyce
Melvin. Lucas Kenney won the shot put (49-07.50), Logan Willour the discus
(147-00) and Wyatt Hammond the javelin (189-00).

Russell had two first place finishers. Trey Zorn won the 1600
meters (4:57.26) and Jace Peerman the high jump (6-09.0). 

Smith Center’s Garrett Wanner won both the 110 (15:57) and 300
hurdles (42.12).

in the 800 (2:25.87), Jaelyn Rumback won the 300 hurdles (48:04). Both were a part
of the first place 4x800 relay along with Savana Rumback and Payton Bailey. Jenessa
