The TMP-Marian Monarchs return to Mid-Continent League play Tuesday in WaKeeney against the Trego Colden Eagles.&nbsp;

LILBURN, Ga. - Following a pair of home conference wins over the weekend, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team moved up four spots to 15th in this week's WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll, released Tuesday (Jan. 30). The Tigers (16-3, 10-3 MIAA) are the lone MIAA program listed in this week's national top 25.This is the second time the Tigers have been slotted 15th in the coaches poll this season, with FHSU also sitting in that spot in the January 9 release. The Tigers went 1-1 that week, including a road win over 20th-ranked Pittsburg State.

The Tigers have now been included in nine-straight top 25 polls and have been ranked 103 times in the program's DII history. Fort Hays State is 157-41 all-time when ranked in the poll and 1-1 when ranked 15th.While no other MIAA team cracked the top 25 this week, three league rivals are listed in the also receiving votes category, including Missouri Southern, Central Missouri and Missouri Western.

Four central region opponents join the Tigers in the top 25 in No. 5 Southern Nazarene, No. 11 Harding, No. 22 Minnesota State and No. 23 Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Fort Hays State will head to Missouri for a pair of conference matchups this weekend, taking on Missouri Western on Thursday in St. Joseph before battling Northwest Missouri State on Saturday in Maryville. The Tigers will then return home to play five of their final seven regular season games at home.

🏀 Tiger women climb four spots in latest WBCA poll

NEW ORLEANS - The Fort Hays State men's track and field team is ranked 15th in the first USTFCCCA NCAA Division II rating index, released Tuesday (Jan. 30) by the coaches association.

The Tigers have four student-athletes that rank in the top 10 nationally, including high jumper Dayton Williams (6-11.5 feet), pole vaulter Jacob Clark&nbsp;(16-8.75 feet) and multi-event runner Nolan Churchman&nbsp;(5326 points in heptathlon). Ethan Lang&nbsp;joined the top 10 performance list with a provisional mark last week for finishing the 800m in a converted time of 1:49.40.

The Tiger men currently rank fifth in the central region and listed as the fourth best team in the MIAA. Event squad rankings started up this week with conference rankings starting the next week.

Next up for the Tiger track and field teams is a trip to Topeka, Kan. for the Washburn Open and Multis this weekend (Feb. 2-3).

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;As construction continues on the transformational Gateway District and a reimagined David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, the Kansas Jayhawks have determined the locations of their home games for the 2024 season.

Kansas Football will play all six of its home games in 2024 in the Kansas City metropolitan area, including its first two home games against Lindenwood and UNLV at Children’s Mercy Park – the home to Sporting Kansas City. The Jayhawks will play their four Big 12 Conference home games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium against TCU (Sept. 28), Houston (Oct. 19), Iowa State (Nov. 9) and Colorado (Nov. 23). The alternate venues enable Kansas Athletics to provide increased fan amenities and a full event experience that would not be possible in a reduced capacity Memorial Stadium. Most importantly, playing the six games outside Lawrence is necessary to keep the Gateway District construction on schedule and ensure that KU can host its 2025 home games in Lawrence.

University of Kansas commencement ceremonies for 2024 and 2025 will still be held in Lawrence at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

"This plan for the 2024 season has an incredible number of benefits for our student-athletes, our fans and supporters, our campus partners and the Kansas Football program. While we are disappointed we can’t play in Lawrence, ultimately, we want to create the best possible experience for all involved, and playing two games at Children’s Mercy Park and four games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium allows us to do that. It has been a thrill to see construction begin in earnest in Lawrence on the Gateway District and David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, and this decision allows that construction to continue on a necessary timeline while also benefiting the overall budget of the project and the 2024 fan experience."

Fans looking to support the Jayhawks throughout the 2024 season can purchase a full six-game season ticket package beginning at $275. There will also be a family zone opportunity for $200 per ticket. Renewals for 2023 season ticket holders will go on sale Feb. 6. Full season ticket holders for the 2024 season will have priority for the 2025 season – the first inside the transformed David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase a four-game package for the games solely at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, with that package slated to go on sale June 3. Single-game tickets will go on sale at a later date. Kansas Athletics is also working with campus partners to ensure student transportation and accommodations for all six home games on the schedule. Student attendance and participation during the 2024 season is of utmost importance. The student ticket allotment at Children’s Mercy Park will be approximately 3,500, right on par with the student capacity ratio at a full David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. At GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, student numbers will match or exceed the total number available at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

Information on fan parking, suites and other premium opportunities at both venues in 2024 will be released in the coming weeks.

Due to season ticket holder demand, single-game tickets are not expected to be on sale for the two games at Children’s Mercy Park in 2024.

"We are excited for the unique opportunity to play our home games in the Kansas City metropolitan area in 2024. While we had hoped to play these games in Lawrence, the move to alternate venues is needed to ensure that our fans, student-athletes and all constituents have the best possible gameday experience and that we stay on schedule to complete construction for the 2025 season. We recognize this move is not ideal for some members of the Lawrence community, and we hope they will understand this is a necessary one-year move to ensure the Gateway District can begin benefitting Lawrence as soon as possible in 2025."

Kansas Football is coming off a 9-4 season in 2023, winning the Guaranteed Rate Bowl against UNLV for the program’s first bowl victory since 2008. The Jayhawks won nine games in a season for just the seventh time in program history. Head Coach Lance Leipold will welcome back several key members of the 2023 team, including running back Devin Neal, receivers Lawrence Arnold, Luke Grimm and Quentin Skinner and quarterback Jalon Daniels on offense.

Defensively, Kansas will welcome back two-time first-team All-Big 12 cornerback Cobee Bryant, along with the team’s other starting cornerback, Mello Dotson. The team will also return defensive standouts Jereme Robinson, Marvin Grant Jr., JB Brown, Taiwan Berryhill and others.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A six-game home slate that features three games against teams new to the conference over the last two years highlights the 2024 football schedule that was announced Tuesday by K-State Athletics and the Big 12 Conference.

K-State opens the 2024 campaign on August 31 against UT Martin in the first ever meeting between the schools before the Wildcats travel to face Tulane on September 7. The game at Tulane marks the second-straight season the Wildcats will play a road non-conference game, their first time doing so since a three-year span in 2015 (UTSA), 2016 (Stanford) and 2017 (Vanderbilt). K-State is looking to avenge a 17-10 home loss to the Green Wave in 2022.

The Wildcats return home to close out non-conference play by hosting new Big 12 foe Arizona on either Friday, September 13 or Saturday, September 14 in the first game of a previously scheduled non-conference series that was announced in 2016. The exact date of that game will be determined later this spring. It will be the eighth meeting all-time between Arizona and K-State but the first in Manhattan. The teams have not met since a contest in Tucson in 1978.

For the 23rd&nbsp;time in the 29-year history of the Big 12, K-State will begin conference play away from home when the Wildcats travel to Provo, Utah, to take on BYU on September 21. The series with the Cougars is tied, 4-4, and the Wildcats will face BYU in the regular season for the first time since 1977. The teams last met in the 1997 (post 1996 season) Cotton Bowl.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs kept making dumbfounding mistakes all season — dropped passes, penalties, miscommunication — and each time, Patrick Mahomes would confidently insist that they were oh-so-close to putting it all together.

In three playoff wins, two on the road in some of the toughest environments in the AFC, the Chiefs played largely mistake-free football in advancing to their fourth Super Bowl in five years. They capped it with a 17-10 win on Sunday in Baltimore, where the Chiefs were so faultless that they made every blunder by the Ravens that much more damaging.

Five personal foul penalties. Two fumbles, including one through the end zone. An interception in the end zone near the end of the game.

“They played the game basically perfect,” marveled Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who also was sacked four times. “I felt like if we didn't turn the ball over, we definitely would have had a shot. We definitely would have came out with a win. But they did a great job of not turning the ball over and putting points on the board.”

The Chiefs had turned the ball over in eight straight games, and their minus-11 differential during the regular season was better than only three other teams. Yet they saved their first turnover-free game since November for the perfect time.

While the Ravens were getting flagged eight times for 95 yards, the Chiefs were penalized just three times for 30. And two of those were back-to-back holds on Trey Smith late in the first half, when Kansas City got a field goal anyway.

Perhaps most stunning was this: The Chiefs led the NFL with 44 dropped passes this season but had none on Sunday.

Now, the team that lost five of eight midway through the season is back in the Super Bowl, where they will try to defend their title against the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

“It's tough to go back-to-back seasons. It's a tough thing,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "You've got to work through that. You've got to work through that mentally. It's not an easy thing. I'm so happy for the guys and how they handled that.

“When it came time to put the hammer down, they put the hammer down, which was important,” Reid added," and the best part is we're not done. We've got another game. You love these seasons to carry on as long as they can possibly carry on. And we are there. Now we've got to get right back at it and start grinding."

The Chiefs won in the trenches on both sides of the ball against the Ravens, despite missing All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney to a pectoral injury in their win over Buffalo. The Chiefs held Baltimore to a season-low 81 yards rushing, and that bodes well as they turn their attention to the 49ers and Christian McCaffery.

The red zone has been a problem for the Chiefs all season. On Sunday, they were stuffed on fourth-and-1 at the Baltimore 13 in the second quarter. They also got to the Ravens 23 — OK, not technically the red zone — before Smith's two penalties just before halftime forced Harrison Butker to kick a 52-yard field goal.

All season, critics were saying Travis Kelce had lost a step, or had grown distracted by his relationship with Taylor Swift, his podcast and his many other off-the-field endeavors. Well, the four-time All-Pro tight end caught all 11 of his targets for 116 yards and a touchdown against the Ravens, one week after he had two TD catches against the Bills in the divisional round.

Tight end Noah Gray and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire both struggled to get anything going when they were given some reps against Baltimore. That's not an encouraging sign should Kelce or Isiah Pacheco get hurt in the Super Bowl.

Chiefs pass rusher Charles Omenihu tore his ACL against the Ravens and will miss the Super Bowl. He missed the first six games of the season for violating the league's personal conduct policy, but quickly began becoming an integral part of the Kansas City defensive front. Omenihu had seven sacks in 11 regular-season games and another against Baltimore before getting hurt.

4 — This will be the fourth time in five years that Kansas City has played in the Super Bowl. It's a rematch of the Chiefs' first game during that run, when they rallied to beat the 49ers on Feb. 2, 2020, in Miami.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid denied providing inaccurate injury information about Kadarius Toney on Monday after the wide receiver went on an expletive-laden social media rant in which he appeared to accuse the team of lying about his health.

Toney was ruled out of Sunday's&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-ravens-score-afc-championship-2d7d4c43fe8fc614b27bf5fc7f4e94d1">AFC championship win in Baltimore</a>&nbsp;because of his hip and personal reasons following the birth of his daughter. But in an Instagram Live post, the 25-year-old Toney insisted amid a stream of expletives that, “I'm not hurt."

“Well, obviously he's been on the injury report. That part is not made up by any means,” Reid replied, when asked about the post on a Zoom call with local reporters Monday. “He's been working through some things and he'll be back out there.”

The Chiefs return to practice Thursday. They face San Francisco in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas.

Teams and coaches can be fined by the NFL for issuing inaccurate or misleading injury reports. In December, then-Falcons coach Arthur Smith was fined $25,000 and the team $75,000 for failing to disclose that running back Bijan Robinson was dealing with an illness that had limited him in a game against Tampa Bay earlier in the season.

Toney has not played since Week 15 against New England, when he let a pass slip through his hands for an interception. He also had a dropped pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown in Week 1 against Detroit, and his&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-kadarius-toney-offside-a81e77e06a1fa06490e9d303976148da">much-publicized offside penalty</a>&nbsp;in Week 14 against Buffalo wiped out a go-ahead touchdown reception in the closing minutes.

Reid said he had not seen Toney's social media post, but heard people discussing it. When asked whether Toney remained on the team, Reid replied: “He'll be back out there and we'll see how he does.”

The Chiefs&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-chicago-bears-new-york-giants-nfl-sports-9f1b656bdc67c15f51c4bfc0c7188ce2">traded third- and sixth-round picks</a>&nbsp;to the Giants for Toney in October 2022, hoping to unlock the potential they saw in him coming out of Florida. And despite dealing with injuries last season, too, Toney delivered in the playoffs. The Chiefs hoped Toney would take another step toward becoming a reliable big-play threat this season. Instead, Toney dropped numerous passes and made other costly mental mistakes, and had just 27 catches for 169 yards in the regular season.

Kansas City has played some of its best football on offense since Toney has been out with his hip injury. Rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice has developed into a star, Marquez Valdes-Scantling has come alive with several big catches in the postseason, and reliable journeyman Justin Watson has helped to take pressure off tight end Travis Kelce.

Kelce had 11 catches for 116 yards and a TD against the Ravens. Rice had eight catches for 46 yards.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were at their magnificent best in the first half, and Kansas City's defense delivered another masterpiece against Lamar Jackson and Baltimore, helping the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years with a 17-10 victory in the AFC championship game Sunday.

Kelce caught 11 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, and now the big question at next month's Super Bowl in Las Vegas is whether his girlfriend Taylor Swift will be able to make it there in the middle of her tour. The pop star was on hand again Sunday, and the 34-year-old Kelce was at his best.

“The Chiefs are still the Chiefs,” said Kelce, who broke Jerry Rice’s career record for receptions in the postseason. “And believe it — you’ve got to fight for your right to party! Believe it, baby, we’re going to Las Vegas.”

Kansas City (14-6) will face either San Francisco or Detroit on Feb. 11, and a win would make the Chiefs the first team to win it all in back-to-back seasons since the New England Patriots 19 years ago.

Swift's presence has turned the Chiefs into even more of a glamour team than they already were, but it's been more of a blue-collar performance on the field this season. Aside from Kelce, Mahomes hasn't had the receiving playmakers he's enjoyed in years past.

Instead, the defense has been a big part of why Kansas City won the AFC West and eventually prevailed in two straight road playoff games against Buffalo and Baltimore to win the conference.

“It’s been a heck of a year. We’ve been underdogs the last few games,” Mahomes said. “We never feel like underdogs. We’ve got a lot of guys on this team that know how to win. When the playoffs get around, they’re here to make it happen. And now we’re in the Super Bowl. The job’s not done.”

The Chiefs led 17-7 at halftime, and Justin Tucker's 43-yard field goal with 2:34 to play was the only scoring of the second half. Baltimore kicked deep after that, and on third-and-9, Mahomes connected with Marquez Valdes-Scantling — one of his most-maligned receivers — on a 32-yard pass that sealed the game.

Mahomes went 30 of 39 for 241 yards and a touchdown.

Jackson could win his second MVP after leading Baltimore to the league’s best record and point differential during the regular season, but the Ravens allowed touchdowns on the first two Kansas City possessions and appeared a bit panicky at times after that.

Baltimore (14-5) made undisciplined mistakes all game, while Kansas City looked the part of the team making its sixth straight appearance in the conference title game.

With the Ravens down by 10 in the third quarter, rookie Zay Flowers caught a 54-yard pass to the Kansas City 10 — then was flagged for taunting after the play. Moments later, he fumbled near the goal line and the Ravens ended up with no points.

That was one of several frustrating moments for Baltimore fans, whose city was hosting an AFC championship game for the first time since January 1971, when the Colts beat the Oakland Raiders.

Jackson went 20 of 37 for 272 yards and a touchdown, but Baltimore never really exploited its perceived advantage on the ground. Jackson raced under one of his own tipped passes in the first half for a 13-yard reception, but he also turned the ball over twice, including a forced pass into heavy coverage that was picked off in the end zone with 6:45 left in the game.

Jackson fell to 2-4 as a starter in the postseason despite having been the top seed in the AFC twice. He made a few sensational individual plays, but the Ravens had trouble moving the ball otherwise.

Mahomes, meanwhile, competed his first 11 pass attempts, and although the Ravens largely shut Kansas City down after that, the damage was done on a rainy day in Baltimore.

There was some chippy behavior before the game, which included Ravens defensive back Arthur Maulet and a group of Kansas City players having to be separated.

Then the Chiefs forced a three-and-out on the game’s first drive and went 86 yards for th e opening touchdown. Kelce caught a 13-yard pass from Mahomes over the middle on fourth-and-2. Then the star tight end beat All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton for a 19-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.

Jackson answered in his own spectacular way. He broke free for a 21-yard run when Baltimore went for it on fourth-and-1 from its 34. Then the star quarterback ducked out of a near-sack by Leo Chenal, retreated a bit farther back and threw a 30-yard scoring strike to Flowers, who celebrated with teammates by doing the “swag surf” dance that Swift and Chiefs fans did at a recent game.

Kansas City was unbothered. Mahomes drove his team 75 yards in 9:02 — with the help of an acrobatic diving catch by Kelce on one third down toss — and Isiah Pacheco capped the 16-play march with a 2-yard touchdown run.

The Chiefs actually missed chances to extend their lead. A sack by Charles Omenihu forced a fumble by Jackson that gave Kansas City the ball at the Baltimore 33. But Kelce was marked just short on a third down catch, and Pacheco was stopped on the ensuing fourth down at the 13.

After a couple of personal fouls on Baltimore helped Kansas City cross midfield late in the half, the Chiefs were flagged for back-to-back holding calls, the second of which wiped out a 33-yard screen pass to Rashee Rice for what would have been a touchdown.

A 9-yard pass to Kelce put Kansas City in position for Harrison Butker’s 52-yard field goal that made it 17-7.

Omenihu left with a knee injury, and star defensive tackle Chris Jones was shaken up in the fourth quarter for the Chiefs.

Chiefs: Kansas City could face a rematch with a Detroit team it lost to 21-20 in the season opener. The Chiefs have not faced the 49ers this season.

Ravens: Baltimore knows it can win a lot of games with Jackson and his talented supporting cast, but getting past the Chiefs seems like an especially daunting task now.

🏈 Mahomes, Kelce are headed back to the Super Bowl after Chiefs shut down Ravens

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Fort Hays State men's wrestling team dominated in a pair of conference duals Sunday afternoon, cruising past Ouachita Baptist 49-5 before knocking off the home team, No. 21 Central Missouri, 32-16. The Tigers (4-4, 3-0 MIAA) won 15 of the 20 bouts on the day, including 14 bonus-point wins and 10 pins.

Fort Hays State's 49-5 victory over OBU was both the most points scored in a dual by the Tigers and the largest margin of victory in over 11 years (50-0 vs. Concordia, 12/15/12).

Fort Hays State raced out to a quick start, with D'Andre Brown&nbsp;(125), Kevin Honas&nbsp;(133) and Drew Bell&nbsp;(141) all recording pins in 65 seconds or less. Marcell Dely&nbsp;(149) followed with a dominant 21-5 technical fall that included six takedowns, putting FHSU in front 23-0. The OBU Tigers picked up their lone victory at 157 before the Black and Gold Tigers took back over by winning the final five matches.

A first-period takedown was enough for Cody Hicks&nbsp;to record a 5-2 win at 165 before Juan Urbina&nbsp;(174) recorded two takedowns, one reversal and eight nearfall points in a 16-1 technical fall. Fort Hays State finished the dual like it began, with three-straight pins. Central Missouri bounced back by winning the next three matchups, closing within 16-12. Urbina helped the Tigers bounce back with a first-period pin before a 9-0 major decision from Henry secured the victory for FHSU. Caldwell put a bow on the afternoon with a second-period pin against the No. 9 ranked wrestler at 285 pounds.

Fort Hays State will next compete on Friday, February 9 when the Tigers host No. 17 Nebraska-Kearney beginning at 7 p.m.

The Tigers (4-4, 3-0 MIAA) won 15 of the 20 bouts on the day, including 14 bonus-point wins and 10 pins.Fort Hays State's 49-5 victory over OBU was both the most points scored in a dual by the Tigers and the largest margin of victory in over 11 years (50-0 vs. Concordia, 12/15/12).Fort Hays State raced out to a quick start, with D'Andre Brown&nbsp;(125), Kevin Honas&nbsp;(133) and Drew Bell&nbsp;(141) all recording pins in 65 seconds or less. Marcell Dely&nbsp;(149) followed with a dominant 21-5 technical fall that included six takedowns, putting FHSU in front 23-0. &nbsp; HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State didn't have their best shooting day, but they made enough key shots down the stretch and got several key stops and beat a pesky Emporia State squad 67-62 Saturday at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers remain unbeaten at home and improve to&nbsp;15-4 overall and 10-3 in the MIAA. The Hornets dropped to 13-8 overall and 6-7 in the MIAA.

For a second-straight game, the Tigers raced to an early lead. Three-straight traditional three-point plays helped them to an early 11-2 advantage. They would lead 19-10 before an 8-0 run by the Hornets closed the gap to one. ESU scored the final eight points of the first half to take their first lead of the game at the half, 36-35.

The Hornets scored the first four points of the second half to build their biggest lead at 40-35 but R.J Crawford hit a 3-pointer for the Tigers which triggered a 9-1 run which put FHSU back in front 44-41.

The Hornets scored the next seven to go up 48-44 but a quick 7-0 run by the Tigers gave them a three-point lead at 51-48, The Hornets would to go up 58-57 on an Alijah Comithier 3-pointer with 4:22 to play but the Tigers scored the next six capped by an R.J. Crawford basket at the end of the shot clock with with 1:54 to play. 

ESU came up short on its next two possessions, hitting just one-of-two free throws to make it a three-point game and then turned the ball over late when they had a chance to potentially tie the game. Bjarni Jonsson&nbsp;put the game away with a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining following a steal.

Elijah Nnanabu finished with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. The 10 rebounds matched his career and season high. Kaleb Hammeke finished with 15, while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out a team-high four assists. Jonsson had nine points and came up with a new career-high seven steals.

Alijah Comithier led the Hornets in scoring with 21 points. Atavian Butler and Owen Long each added 12.

The Tigers now prepare for a big road trip next week to Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State. Missouri Western is currently in fourth place in the MIAA, two games back of FHSU. Northwest Missouri State leads the MIAA by one game over FHSU.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀 Tiger men fight off Hornets to remain unbeaten at home

HAYS, Kan. - The 19th-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team used a big second quarter to rally back from an early 12-point deficit and beat Emporia State 72-63 Saturday afternoon inside Gross Memorial Coliseum. 

The Tigers (16-3, 10-3 MIAA) outscored the Lady Hornets (9-10, 6-7 MIAA) 20-6 in the second quarter to build a four-point halftime lead and would never trail in the second half.

Emporia State made four of their first five three-point attempts in building the early double-digit lead. The Tigers struggled from the floor over the first five minutes and trailed by 10 after the first quarter, 21-11. The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 23. Jessie Sallach&nbsp;put the team on her back scoring eight of her 12 points in that stanza. Megan Earney&nbsp;gave the Tigers their first lead and 29-27 with the first of her six 3-pointers late in the quarter. Emma Ruddle&nbsp;later gave the Tigers the lead for good with a 3-pointer of her own before Sallach scored the final basket of the frame, putting FHSU in front 31-27 at halftime.

Ellis Stearns&nbsp;kept the run going by hitting the first Tiger shot of the second half before Sydney Golladay poured in a jumper to make it a 10-0 run and put FHSU up 36-27. The Lady Hornets answered by hitting eight 3-pointers in the second half and closed within one possession four times in the second half, but the Tigers had an answer on each occasion. 

Early in the fourth quarter the Lady Hornets closed within three points, but each time Earney answered with a 3-pointer to keep the Lady Hornets at bay. A big second-chance layup from Katie Wagner&nbsp;after her own offensive rebound gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game midway through the fourth quarter at 66-55. 

ESU scored eight of the next 10 points to close within five with 2:23 to go, but the Tiger defense managed to close things out after forcing five missed shots and one turnover down the stretch.

Earney's six 3-pointers, the most by a Tiger this season and fourth-most in the MIAA this season, helped her lead the team with 20 points, one off her career high. Wagner added 14 points and 12 rebounds for her 30th career double-double, while Sallach scored 12 and Ruddle added 10 points. Golladay dished out eight assists, while Ruddle led the team with three steals.

The Tigers finished the game shooting 45.8 percent from the floor (27-of-59) and 40 percent from behind the arc (10-of-25). Emporia State knocked down 40.6 percent from deep on the day (13-of-32), but hit just 30.8 percent of its shots from inside the arc (8-of-26). Neither team missed from the free-throw line, with each finishing 8-for-8.

Fort Hays State dominated on the boards, outrebounding ESU 39-28. The Tigers took advantage of 13 offensive rebounds, scoring 22 second-chance points. Fort Hays State had a huge edge in points off the bench, with reserves scoring 36 for the Tigers and just six for the Lady Hornets.

The Tigers will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Missouri to take on Missouri Western on Thursday and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Tigers struggled from the floor over the first five minutes and trailed by 10 after the first quarter, 21-11. The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 23. Jessie Sallach&nbsp;put the team on her back scoring eight of her 12 points in that stanza. Megan Earney&nbsp;gave the Tigers their first lead and 29-27 with the first of her six 3-pointers late in the quarter. Emma Ruddle&nbsp;later gave the Tigers the lead for good with a 3-pointer of her own before Sallach scored the final basket of the frame, putting FHSU in front 31-27 at halftime.Ellis Stearns&nbsp;kept the run going by hitting the first Tiger shot of the second half before Sydney Golladay poured in a jumper to make it a 10-0 run and put FHSU up 36-27. The Lady Hornets answered by hitting eight 3-pointers in the second half and closed within one possession four times in the second half, but the Tigers had an answer on each occasion. Early in the fourth quarter the Lady Hornets closed within three points, but each time Earney answered with a 3-pointer to keep the Lady Hornets at bay. A big second-chance layup from Katie Wagner&nbsp;after her own offensive rebound gave the Tigers their largest lead of the game midway through the fourth quarter at 66-55. Wagner added 14 points and 12 rebounds for her 30th career double-double, while Sallach scored 12 and Ruddle added 10 points. Golladay dished out eight assists, while Ruddle led the team with three steals.The Tigers finished the game shooting 45.8 percent from the floor (27-of-59) and 40 percent from behind the arc (10-of-25). Emporia State knocked down 40.6 percent from deep on the day (13-of-32), but hit just 30.8 percent of its shots from inside the arc (8-of-26). Neither team missed from the free-throw line, with each finishing 8-for-8.Fort Hays State dominated on the boards, outrebounding ESU 39-28. The Tigers took advantage of 13 offensive rebounds, scoring 22 second-chance points. GARDEN CITY – Hays High’s Harley Zimmerman remained unbeaten
on the season, winning the 144 pound weight class at the 66th Rocky Welton Invitational
hosted by Garden City High School. Dalton Meyers placed sixth at 190, Jonathan
Rigler seventh at 175 and Elijah McCullough finished eighth at 113. The Tigers
finished 15th in the team standings with 103 points.

Rose Hill won the team title with 176.5 points, 14 more than
second place Pueblo East (Colo.). Maize finished third and Garden City fourth.

After receiving a first-round bye, Zimmerman (30-0) won by
fall over Silas Arnds of Vista Ridge, Colo. in the second round. He defeated Garden
City’s Logan Avalon by a major decision in the quarterfinals, won by major
decision over Ben McAllister of Millard West in the semifinals then defeated
Brayson Salinas of Ulysses by fall in the finals. 

Meyers (25-5) also received a first round bye then won by major
decision over Demetrius McGriff of Pine Creek, Colo.in the second round. In the
quarterfinals Meyers lost by fall to Andale’s Isaiah Wilson. Meyers came back
to beat Pine Creek’s Matthew Geri by major decision in the consolation fourth
round. He won by major decision over Dominic Benavidez of Pueblo East in the fifth
round consolation before losing by fall to Great Bend’s Trenton Kern. Meyers
lost by sudden victory to Valley Center’s Steel Schomaker in the fifth place
match.

Jonathan Rigler (22-10) won 11-5 over Kearney’s Dylan
Peisiger in the first round. He then lost by fall to Andale’s Ian Aouad in the
second round. He bounced back to win the next three matches, the first two by
fall and third by forfeit, Rigler lost a 5-2 decision to Dilan Ruiz of La
Junta, Colo. in the consolation fifth round then won an 8-4 decision over Great
Bend’s Aidan Davidson in the seventh-place match.

McCullough (26-5) won his first two matches by fall before
losing by technical fall to Randall’s Michael Ruiz in the quarterfinals.
McCullough came back to defeat Kearney’s Jameson Small by sudden victory. He
lost a tough 3-1 decision to Olathe North’s Jaxson Scott in the consolation
fifth round then dropped a 2-1 decision to Valley Center’s Braxton Moody.

in third place at the third annual Rocky Welton girls wrestling tournament.

Dodge City won the team title with 239 points, 43 more than
second place Garden City.

Tionna Napue won the 120 pound weight class, Lexi Burton was
second at 140, Lexi Barnett second at 155, Timber Lovewell third at 145, Addison
Otte finished fourth at 125, Reese Vehige place fourth at 125, Keyla Macias
placed fifth at 110, Katie Gutierrez was fifth at 135, Addison Neuberger sixth
