Diana Elizabeth Gaona, 83, Russell, died Monday, July 28,
2025, at Russell Regional Hospital.

She was born August 26, 1941, in Webster, South Dakota, the
daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Block) Helwig.&nbsp;
She was a 1959 graduate of Waubay High School in Waubay, South Dakota.&nbsp; Diana worked as an LPN and then dedicated her
time to raising two boys.&nbsp; She always had
a smile on her face and she loved to play bingo.

She was survived by her loving family:&nbsp; sons, Jeff
Gaona and wife Tonya of Wichita and Chad Gaona of Edmond, OK, sister, Gladys
Grubbs of Scottsdale, AZ, granddaughter, Ava Gaona of Wichita, as well as many
other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Clarence
Helwig and twin brother Don Helwig, and sisters,&nbsp;Evelyn Hamman, Violet Maxwell, Deloris Wieger, and Esther Loterbauer.

The family will honor Diana’s life privately and would
encourage others to share cherished memories.&nbsp;

Janice
Elaine Johansen died peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 90 at
Country Living in Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; 

She
was born September 5, 1934, in Elgin, Iowa, to Oliver and Reva (Swenson)
Torkelson.&nbsp; Jan was one of five children.&nbsp; She received her bachelor's degree, majoring
in Home Economics from the Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern
Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Iowa.&nbsp; While in
college, she met Dale, another student, on a blind date.&nbsp; They were married on December 29, 1955, in
Elgin, Iowa.&nbsp; In 1958, their first child
was born, Tom.&nbsp; At the time, Dale was
commuting between Cedar Falls and Iowa City, working on his Ph.D. degree.&nbsp; Jan worked as a substitute and full-time
teacher of home economics in Cedar Falls.&nbsp;
In 1963, Jan, Dale, and Tom moved to Wayne, Nebraska.&nbsp; Jan worked in the home taking care of her
son. In 1966, daughter Mary was born.&nbsp;
While Tom was growing up, Jan attended all of Tom’s football,
basketball, and baseball games.&nbsp; Jan had
many hobbies and interests, from playing cards, collecting antiques, cooking,
sewing, knitting, and golf.&nbsp; She was
active in the ladies’ league at Wayne Country Club for many years.&nbsp; Jan volunteered at her church, Redeemer
Lutheran Church, as a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School Director and
teacher.&nbsp; In 1976, the family moved to
Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Jan continued to work in
the home while Mary was in grade school and middle school. She began working at
Fort Hays State University serving in several positions including Interim
Director of the Alumni Association. While with the Alumni Association, she
initiated several innovative programs that still exist today. Jan retired from
FHSU in 1991. She was also an avid golfer at Smoky Hill Country Club, active in
several bridge clubs, and a member of Chapter BQ of PEO in Hays. 

In
retirement, Jan and Dale traveled to watch their granddaughters’ activities,
including Elise’s concerts, Madelyn’s and Molly’s soccer and basketball games,
and Kiley’s golf tournaments for Hays High School (never missing a tournament)
and FHSU women’s golf. Elise, Kiley, Madelyn, and Molly enjoyed many years
going to “Gramma’s house” after school and spending quality time with Gramma
and Grampa. These were special times for the Johansen family. Jan and Dale
spent many summers in Iowa, playing golf and cards with her sisters and
brother-in-law. 

Jan
was the ultimate loyal and faithful servant to her church, family, friends, and
community. Whether it was making cookies and other sweets with her
granddaughters or attending family events, Jan supported her family with love,
compassion, and selflessness, and was the ultimate role model for her
granddaughters. Jan didn’t meet someone on the street without greeting them.
Her radiant smile and graciousness will be remembered always and cherished by
those who knew and loved her. 

She
is survived by her son Tom Johansen and his wife Vicki of Hays; daughter Mary
Martin and her husband Mike of Hays, four granddaughters: Elise Johansen Harvey
and husband Alex of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Kiley Johansen Barnett and
husband Reid of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Madelyn and Molly Martin of Hays; and seven
great-grandchildren Lincoln, Aria, Salem, Abram, Asher, Rosemary, and
Freya.&nbsp; 

She
was preceded in death by her husband Dale; parents, Oliver and Reva Torkelson;
sisters Norma, Dorothy and husband Don, and Delores and husband Harry, and
infant brother Wayne.

Memorial
Services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Hays Memorial
Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Christine Wagner officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in Mount Allen
Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 9:00 am
until service time at the funeral home.&nbsp; A

Janice Elaine Johansen

Richard
Eugene 'Pete' Hubbard, was born November 3, 1950 in Great Bend, Kansas to
Harold Eugene and Patricia Louise (Chance) Hubbard. At an early age the family
moved to Hill City, Kansas where he attended local schools. He graduated from
Hill City High School with the class of 1969.&nbsp;

Following
high school, he attended and graduated from Northwest Kansas Area
Vocational-Technical School in Electricity-Electronics May 28th, 1971.

December
5, 1970, Pete was united in marriage to Linda Kathleen Maier at Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Oakley, Kansas. The Lord Blessed this union with two
children, Julee Lyn and Richard Eugene Jr. (Rick). They later
divorced.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Following
graduation from Vo-Tech, Pete worked for a local electrician until he enlisted
in the United States Air Force in 1972. During his time of service he worked as
a maintenance technician on aircraft (including Air Force One). He received
numerous medals and ribbons for his service and training. While serving, he was
stationed in Illinois, Texas, Japan, Nebraska, and Nevada. He also traveled the
world through temporary assignments. During his service in Nevada, he was
injured in an automobile accident and was Honorably Discharged/Retired from the
Air Force. 

He
returned to Hill City where he worked for Hill City Schools, Riverside Feeders,
Norman Beecher, J Bar S and Kellie’s (from which he retired). Pete was a member
of the Hill City Elks and the VFW. He even served as the Exalted Ruler of the
Elks Club.

Pete
enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and Chiefs football. He developed a close
friendship with the nurses and technicians during his ten years of dialysis
treatments in Hays. He often told stories of his joking and sharing family
stories with “his girls.” They became like a second family to him.

Pete
was a strong supporter of youth, and their activities but his greatest joy was
being able to support his grandchildren and attend their sporting, musical and
school events. You could find him sitting in bleachers, lawn chairs or
auditorium seats or standing along a cross- country course with a smile on his
face beaming with pride for his grandkids. He also looked forward to spending
holidays with Julee and her family.

The
morning of Friday, July 25, 2025, the risen and ascended Lord Jesus received
unto himself the soul of Richard (Pete) Hubbard at the age of 74 years, 8
months, 22 days.

Pete
was preceded in death by his father, Harold, August 25, 1970; his mother, Pat,
February 25, 2004; his stepdad, Bob Stephen, July 24, 2006; his son, Rick,
August 21, 2024; and his brother, Jim, October 21, 2024.

He
is survived by his daughter Julee (Troy) Slater; four granddaughters: Ashten
(Tanner) Staab, Kaylee Slater, Jayden (Dennis) Zoglmann; one grandson Stephen
Slater; and his “special angel” - his great granddaughter, Mila Rae Staab. He
is also survived by an uncle, Ron (Linda) Chance, and cousins Craig Chance and
Krista Wilson, along with many friends that became like family to him.

Pete’s
mortal remains will rest in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City, Kansas until
the day of resurrection of all flesh.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. at the
Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City, Kansas, Pete requested that memorials be
made for the education funds of his great grandchildren in care of&nbsp; Stinemetz Funeral Home, 522 N. Pomeroy Ave.,
Hill City, Kansas 67642.

Richard Eugene 'Pete' Hubbard

Bonnie Lee Kaser, beloved wife, mother, grandmother,
sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at
Denver Hospice in Denver, Colorado, with her devoted husband Ron by her side.
She was 83.

Born on June 7, 1942, in Elkhart, Indiana to Thelma and
David Curran, Bonnie’s life was one of curiosity, compassion, and resilience.
Her early years took her from Indianapolis to Canaan, New York, and ultimately
to Baltimore, Maryland, where she graduated from high school. Bonnie’s
intellectual drive earned her a scholarship to Ohio State University, where she
graduated fourth in her class with a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration in 1964.

In 1966, Bonnie joined Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, where she
met Ron. Bonnie and Ron’s first date was on Ron’s 24th birthday, March 31,
1967, and just months later, they were married on August 21, 1967, at Osborne
Christian Church in Osborne, Kansas. In true Bonnie fashion, she kept life
delightfully spontaneous—Ron did not meet her parents until the night before
the wedding.

In 1968, Bonnie and Ron made Osborne their forever home.
Family was Bonnie’s greatest joy. She welcomed her first son, Kevin, on October
10, 1968, followed by Shawn on January 18, 1972. Bonnie enthusiastically
supported their school activities throughout the 1980s and was blessed when her
parents moved to Osborne in 1990, allowing her to spend cherished time with
them.

Bonnie brought energy and warmth to every facet of her
community. She was a proud member of P.E.O. and a founding organizer of Osborne
High School's after-graduation parties. Her passion for playing
cards—especially bridge and pinochle—was matched only by her dedication to
civic engagement, including her contributions to Osborne's centennial
celebrations.

Bonnie dedicated over 30 years of service to Parkview
Nursing Home, retiring in 2008 as its business manager. Even before retirement,
Bonnie and Ron journeyed together to countless destinations, embracing the joy
of travel and shared experiences.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and
David Curran; her brother Joel Curran; sister-in-law Jan Curran; and
sister-in-law Nancy Scott.

Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ron
Kaser, Osborne, KS; her sons, Kevin Kaser, Ormond Beach, FL, and Shawn (Hope)
Kaser, Omaha, NE; and three treasured grandchildren: Piper, Elly, and Beckett.
She is also survived by her brother Mark (Cathy) Curran, Iola, TX;
brother-in-law Bill Scott of Wamego; nephews Brian Scott and David Curran; and
nieces Lisa Schreck (Scott), Diane Henderson (Curran), April Falco (Curran),
and Ashley Moore (Curran).

Bonnie's legacy is woven into the lives she touched with
grace, generosity, and unwavering spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever
remembered.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 4, 2025, at the
United Christian Church (209 N 2nd St. Osborne, KS) from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at

Carlene (Barlow) Bryant, of
Stockton, KS and formerly of Quinter, KS, passed away on July 21, 2025, at the
Logan County Senior Living in Oakley, Kansas, at the age of 75.&nbsp;

Carlene was born on November
29, 1949, to Robert 'Joe' and Ruth (Stephenson) Barlow in Amarillo,
TX.&nbsp;Carlene graduated from Spring Woods High School in Houston, TX in
1968.&nbsp;She continued her education at Texas Tech University receiving her
degree in Education.&nbsp;

Carlene found her soulmate in
Jim Bryant on May 25, 1973, in Lubbock, TX. They welcomed two sons: Adam and
Aaron which completed their family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carlene taught grade school
and special education in Quinter, Wheatland, and Dodge City Schools.&nbsp;
Carlene was one of those teachers that made an impact on many students, which
shows by the number that kept in contact with her even now.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carlene was also a Senior
Companion. She was the type of person that enjoyed helping anyone in need, many
times putting others before herself.&nbsp;

To say that Carlene loved her
children is an understatement - but when it came to her grandchildren, her love
was tenfold. Alyssa, Angeline, Morgan, Sierra, and Aricka were her life. She
should be a saint since she would have all 5 girls on vacation at Grandma’s
house (in other words, she was giving the parents a break) doing everything
they wanted to do.&nbsp;

Carlene got the title of Great-Grandma
when Carter and Caroline Enslow, Caleb, Jonah, Gabriella, Evan, Alice, Lilah,
Imogen, Waylon, Guinevere, E.J., and Clementine&nbsp;were born.&nbsp;

Those who
will miss Carlene are more than anyone could know, as she touched so many
lives. But it is felt the most by her sons: Adam (Marlyn) of Stockton and Aaron
(Becky) of Hays; grandchildren: Alyssa (Graedon) Mayfield of Hays, Angeline
(Shane) Berens of Hays, Morgan (Dakota) Enslow of Oakley, Sierra Bryant of
Hays, Aricka Bryant of Oakley, Clayton Becker and Landon Becker of Stockton,
Karen Corson of Great Bend, Mathew Corson, Kevin Corson of Virginia, Kayla
Corson of Hays; and&nbsp; great-grandchildren: Carter and Caroline Enslow of
Oakley, Caleb, Jonah, Gabriella,&nbsp; Evan, Alice, Lilah, Waylon, E.J, Imogen,
Guinevere, Clementine, Harlan, and Sofiana.

Those that preceded her in
death are her parents, Joe and Ruth Barlow; husband, Jim Bryant; sister, Carolyn
Taylor; and in-laws, Raymond and Mary Bryant and Ron and Anna Marie Achilles.

A Funeral Service will be held
on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 2PM at the Church of the Brethren in Quinter, KS.
There will be no public visitation.

Carlene (Barlow) Bryant

Clyde Duane Reed, a devoted husband, loving father,
cherished grandfather, and dedicated civil engineer, passed away peacefully on
June 20, 2025, at the age of 92, at home in Torrance, California. He was born
in Stockton, Kansas, on September 26, 1932, to Willis Dale and Winnie May
(Anderson) Reed. Clyde’s remarkable life spanned nearly a century of change,
from riding a pony to a one-room schoolhouse to utilizing modern technology.

Clyde’s early life on the farm shaped his character and work
ethic. Guided by his faith, he attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma,
and Manhattan Bible College, where he earned a degree in Bible. After being
ordained, he served as a pastor for a year in Sharon, Kansas, and remained a
lifelong leader in his church.

Clyde ventured west, where he attended Pacific Christian
College and Long Beach State University, and embarked on a distinguished
38-year career with the City of Los Angeles. Starting as a bus driver, his keen
intellect and determination led him to become a draftsman and ultimately a
licensed Professional Civil Engineer.

It
was in Southern California that Clyde met the love of his life, Elizabeth, at
Lawndale Christian Church. They married in 1962, sharing 62 years of unwavering
partnership and raising three daughters. Their commitment to family was
paramount, leading them to move to North Torrance in 1974 to provide their
daughters with access to better schools.

Clyde's legacy extends beyond his professional achievements and
family commitment. He was a man of strong convictions and a stable presence in
his home. He fostered a love for travel through driving trips across the
country, encouraging an appreciation for different places. He embraced
technology and was an active amateur radio operator (WB6HLS), with interests in
audio technology and personal computers. In his later years, he participated in
Zoom meetings with his radio club and family members, bridging the vast
distance from his one-room schoolhouse beginnings.

Clyde will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his steadfast
dedication to his family, his brilliant mind, and his quiet ingenuity. He
leaves behind a legacy of integrity, consistency, and a profound impact on all
who knew him.

Clyde is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Reed; his
daughters, Susan (Tim) Taylor, Vicki Wood, and Carol (Kendrick) Gong; his
grandchildren, Kylie Wood, Megan (Jordan) Tucker, Jordan Wood, Jacob Taylor,
Christopher (Lindsay) Taylor, Ryan Gong, and Eric Gong: and great-grandchild
Harper Tucker. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marla Jean.

of Hays, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at her home.

She was born on April 7,
1936, in rural Graham County Kansas to Henry and Mable (Rolland) Kolste.&nbsp;
She married Lawrence “Larry” Frenzl on August 29, 1952, in Bentonville,
Arkansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on August 8, 2012.

Edna worked at the Hallmark
store on The Mall in Hays and was the store manager for over 35 years.&nbsp;
She grew up and attended school in Palco, Kansas, and worked at her mother’s
restaurant.&nbsp; She moved to Hays in 1966, and sold World Book encyclopedias,
and Fashion Two-Twenty Cosmetics.

She was a member of
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and a member of the Hays &nbsp;V.F.W.
Auxiliary Post # 9076.&nbsp;&nbsp; She enjoyed her gardening, flowers, gambling
trips, and her frequent stops at the Hays V.F.W. club room for their evening
meals and visiting with her V.F.W. family, and other friends.&nbsp; &nbsp;She
always said she had two families, her V.F.W. family, and her own.
&nbsp;&nbsp;Edna’s pride and joy was her grandchildren, and her family.

She is survived by her
children, Michael Frenzl and wife, Jane Rajewski, Hays, KS; Ronald Frenzl and
wife, Donna, Olathe, KS; Susan Miller and husband, Kenneth, Hays, KS; Betty

Richard 'Dick' Leiker, 83, of Nashville, TN,
passed away peacefully at his home on June 25, 2025. In his home with his loving wife Lydia of 30 years at his side. He was born June 21, 1942 in Hays, Kansas to Richard and Mary (Braun) Leiker.

Funeral
mass will be 10:00 AM, Saturday,&nbsp; August 2, 2025 at St. Nicholas of Myra
Church in Hays, KS. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Dick graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1960 and attended Ft. Hays University.&nbsp;

He never met a stranger, and he spent his working years in sales, both in retail and as an executive in corporate supplies.&nbsp;

At a young man his interest was in cars. He worked various jobs to purchase and maintain them. They were always cleaned and shined. One would always find a “chamois” in the trunk. His habit continued throughout his life.

His pride and joy were his golf clubs, golfing, golfers, golf magazines, golf shirts, golf pants and golf balls.&nbsp;

&nbsp;He often referred to his golf clubs as his “ WEAPONS”. &nbsp;He and Lydia were fans of KU basketball and Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed working in his yard and planting flowers Dick will be remembered by his gentleman’s wardrobe. &nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Lydia (Ralph) Leiker, his children, Gina MacConnell (Matt), Ryan Leiker (Tamara). &nbsp;Stepchildren Catrina Massey (Paul) of Colorado Springs, Co, Monica (Michael) Cohen and Sonja Price both of Seattle, WA. His siblings Doris (Leiker) Ebersole, &nbsp;Robert (Jill) Leiker, of Kansas City, Ks. Dick enjoyed talking about his 19 grandchildren who would say “show me some money”.

He is survived by 2 nephews, many loving in-laws, and a host of friends and caregivers. Dick was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law. Robert Ebersole &nbsp;and Steve Ralph.

He would want all who are bereaving to rely on your faith as a source of comfort and the memory of his life to live as a blessing. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Richard 'Dick' Leiker

Douglas H. 'Doug' Innes, 93, Hays, died Monday, June 23,
2025 at Cedarhurst of Lawrence.

He was born March 6, 1932 in Phillipsburg, the son of Guy
Allendale and Carolyn Violet (Unland) Innes.&nbsp;
Doug was the oldest of five children: Von, Ronald, Karen Sue, and Rodney,
and he attended school in Phillipsburg and graduated from Phillipsburg High
School in 1950.&nbsp; Doug attended McNeese
State College for one year and then transferred to the University of Nebraska
where he received a BSc degree in Geology in 1955.&nbsp; While at Nebraska, he was enrolled in the
ROTC program and received a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S.
Army.&nbsp; He was called to active duty a
short time later and after inducted, he was assigned to duty in Schwetzington,
Germany.

On February 6, 1955 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth
“Betty” Thurman in Broken Bow, Nebraska, and they were blessed with three
children: Susan, Jill, and Thomas.&nbsp; After
his assignment in the Army was completed, he worked as a geologist in New
Mexico and Colorado.&nbsp; He returned to
Phillipsburg in 1961 to work in the family business as well as part time with
the U.S. Post Office.&nbsp; In 1964, he was
appointed to Postmaster at the Phillipsburg post office.&nbsp; In 1978, Doug received a promotion and he and
his family moved to Hays.&nbsp; Doug enjoyed
his work with the post office and in 1981 he was appointed Hays Postmaster, a
position he held until retirement in 1990.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Hays, his three
children, Susan Shanklin and husband Greg of Lawrence, Jill Innes of Madison
WI, and Thomas Innes and wife Lisa of Madison, WI, a foster daughter Tarea

2025 at Cedarhurst of Lawrence.He was born March 6, 1932 in Phillipsburg, the son of Guy
Allendale and Carolyn Violet (Unland) Innes.&nbsp;
Doug was the oldest of five children: Von, Ronald, Karen Sue, and Rodney,
and he attended school in Phillipsburg and graduated from Phillipsburg High
School in 1950.&nbsp; Doug attended McNeese
State College for one year and then transferred to the University of Nebraska
where he received a BSc degree in Geology in 1955.&nbsp; While at Nebraska, he was enrolled in the
ROTC program and received a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S.
Army.&nbsp; He was called to active duty a
short time later and after inducted, he was assigned to duty in Schwetzington,
Germany.On February 6, 1955 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth
“Betty” Thurman in Broken Bow, Nebraska, and they were blessed with three
children: Susan, Jill, and Thomas.&nbsp; After
his assignment in the Army was completed, he worked as a geologist in New
Mexico and Colorado.&nbsp; He returned to
Phillipsburg in 1961 to work in the family business as well as part time with
the U.S. Post Office.&nbsp; In 1964, he was
appointed to Postmaster at the Phillipsburg post office.&nbsp; In 1978, Doug received a promotion and he and
his family moved to Hays.&nbsp; Doug enjoyed
his work with the post office and in 1981 he was appointed Hays Postmaster, a
position he held until retirement in 1990.Survivors include his wife Betty of Hays, his three
children, Susan Shanklin and husband Greg of Lawrence, Jill Innes of Madison
WI, and Thomas Innes and wife Lisa of Madison, WI, a foster daughter Tarea
Sanders Fischer of Hays, two brothers, Von Innes and wife Lois of Lincoln, NE, and
Rodney Innes and wife Mary of Olathe, eight grandchildren, two great

Rosemary Bunker Wickham, age 85 of Hays, KS passed away on
Saturday June 28, 2025, at Hays Medical Center – Hays.

She was born November 27, 1939,
in Ellis County to George F. Bunker and Agatha (Wolf) Bunker. She married
Robert E. Wickham on January 9, 1960, in Hays, KS.

She graduated from Girls
Catholic High School in 1958. She went on to get her bachelor’s degree at Fort
Hays State University in Home Economics and was a registered dietitian. She
worked at Hadley hospital for many years and at St. Anthony Hospital in the
nursing department, American Cancer Society, Blind services, Area on Aging and
before her retirement KETCH for disabled people.

Rosemary was a member of
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church – Hays.

She enjoyed time with her kids,
grandkids, great grandkids. She loved holidays, especially Halloween pumpkin
carving, and dying Easter eggs. She loved family gatherings and was a great
German cook. She loved to play the piano and sing and dance. She was the best
spouse, mom, grandmother, great grandmother. Her legacy of compassion, grace
and deep love for her family will live on through all who were blessed to have
known her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Melvin James Gabel, 84, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully
on July 18, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Melvin was born on May 22, 1941, in Hays, Kansas to Leo and Emma
Gabel. He proudly served in the United States Navy, an experience that helped
spark his lifelong love of travel and&nbsp;exploration.
Whether it was a cross-country road trip or simply discovering a new backroad,
Melvin was always up for an adventure—especially if there was a good map
involved.

In 1964, he married Jeanette Dechant in Hays, Kansas. Together,
they raised three children: Ursula, Cornel, and Jessica. Later in life, Melvin
married Nancy Timmons in 2013. The couple made their home in Salina, where
Melvin enjoyed retirement by planning travels, visiting family, and studying
historical politics.

Melvin was a man of quiet curiosity, gentle humor, and kindness.
He found joy in the simple things: the best fried egg sandwiches, perfectly
folded laundry, and the company of family. His presence brought calm, and his
stories left lasting impressions on those lucky enough to know him.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children and their spouses:
Ursula and Kevin Baird, Cornel and Donna Gabel, and Jessica and Ryan Cino; and
his beloved grandchildren: Kiera and Max Gabel, and Gabe and Cooper Cino.

Mel’s adventurous spirit, big laugh, and love for life will be
dearly missed.

Steven Craig Massey,
born August 29, 1944, passed away at his home in Albany, Oregon, on May 31,
2025. Steven died of cancer after a short illness. Teacher, husband, father,
fly fisherman, hunter, oilfield roughneck, and soldier, Steven lived a good
life. Born in Hutchinson, Kansas, he attended schools in Nickerson, Hays and
Elkhart, Kansas, where he graduated in 1962, He attended Fort Hays Kansas State
College (now University) and earned a BA and MA from the University of Oregon.
Steven served as an infantry first lieutenant platoon leader in Vietnam in 1967
and 1968. For nearly two decades he taught elementary school in Eugene, Oregon
where he was also a realtor and owner of Franchetti’s. Steven was a city
councilman for Rainier, Oregon, from 2012 to 2020.

Steven was the third of
six children of Leo and Neva (Belden) Massey. He married Sandra Crutchfield of
Goodland, Kansas, in 1969; they divorced in 1972. In 1980 he married Rita
Kendrick. The parents of two sons, Abram of Whitefish, Montana, and Joseph of
Springfield, Oregon, they divorced in 2002. In 2008 he married Joy McWilliams.
He is also survived by siblings Kathryn Joy and Garth Massey of Portland and
three grandchildren.

From boyhood Steven was
an avid angler. (No one could cast more beautifully.) His well-trained bird
dogs were his best companions, along with many close friends. Steven was
gregarious, patient, sincere, and an avid reader who kept up with current
events. To say he will be missed only begins to express how his loved ones
feel.

Paul John Cersovsky, age 71 of Ellis, Kansas died July 20, 2025,
at his home in Ellis.

John was born in Colby, Kansas on December 27, 1953, to Paul and
Jacqueline 'Jackie' (Delzeit) Cersovsky.

He worked as a security officer for Colby Community College for 25
years, retiring in December 2020. As a young man he enjoyed hunting and fishing
and later in life he started collecting stamps and coins.

John is survived by his wife: Jennie Cersovsky, of Ellis, KS;
children: Randall (Maranda) Cersovsky, of Healy, KS; Anita (Nabeel) Khokhar, of
Hutchinson, KS; Sarah (Mark) McArthur, of Cleveland, OK; and Eric (Kacey)
Cersovsky, of Topeka, KS.

His extended family includes stepchildren: Bonnie (James)
Brungardt, of Hays, KS; Felicia (Shawn) York, of Salina, KS; Savannah Clapper,
of Ellis, KS; and Donald (Ashley) Clapper, of Mesa, AZ.

Grandchildren: Landon, Ana, Korben, and Aylee Cersovsky, Hannah,

In Loving Memory of Cecilia Leann Wear Born
sleeping, July 13, 2025 – 26 weeks gestation.

“So small, so silent — yet the loudest ache we’ve ever
known.”

With shattered hearts, we announce that Cecilia Leann
Wear was born and passed away on July 13, 2025, in Hays, Kansas. Though she
never opened her eyes or took her first breath, Cecilia was deeply known,
profoundly loved, and forever cherished.

She was the beloved daughter of Anna Cecilia Wear, who
carried her not only in her womb but in her soul — even when it was believed
that Cecilia had been lost weeks earlier. In an unexpected turn, Anna learned
that her baby girl still lived — only to have her taken again, far too soon.
The days between were filled with hope, love, and dreams that now live on in
memory.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her grandmother, Arilla
Leann (Mizell) Wear; and her great-grandfather, Billie R. Wear; and we find
comfort in the thought that they are holding her now, beyond this world. Her
grandmother cradles her in love until the day her mother can again, whispering
lullabies from generations past. Beside them, her great-grandfather teaches her

Mary Ann Weigel, age 89, from
Gorham, Kansas passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Russell Regional
Hospital, Russell, Kansas.

She was born August 26, 1935,
on the family farm North East of Gorham to John and Cora E. (Goodman)
Dockendorf.&nbsp; She married Hubert F. Weigel on April 22, 1954, at
Gorham.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on May 2, 2002.

Mary Ann was an executive
secretary to the bank president at The Gorham State Bank, and retired in
October of 1992.

She was raised on the family
farm and was a rancher all of her life.&nbsp; She attended school in Gorham,
was a graduate of the Gorham High School, and a member of &nbsp;Saint Mary’s
Help of Christians Catholic Church.

Mary Ann is survived by her
nieces, Pam Bryan and husband, Robert, of Texas; Barbara Reyelts and husband,
Dean, of Gorham; Coleen Carrico and husband, Tracy, of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by
her parents; John and Cora; her husband, Hubert; her brother, Leo Dockendorf;
her nephews, Curtis Dockendorf, and Bruce Weigel.

Services will be held at
10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria,

Kenneth 'Ken' Alfred Dechant, 73, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on July 15th, 2025, at
Smoky Hill Health &amp; Rehabilitation. Born on April 14th, 1952, in Hays,
Kansas, the son of Alfred “Fritz” W. Dechant and Dorothy (Honas) Dechant.

&nbsp;Ken
graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1970, then joined the Army
Reserves in 1971. He was stationed at the 388th Medical Battalion in Hays,
Kansas, and served there until he was honorably discharged in March of 1977. He
then went on to receive his associate’s degree in accounting and business
administration/management from Brown Mackie College in 1991.&nbsp;

On
July 8th, 1972, Ken married the love of his life, Judy Ann Werth. Fr.
Steve Letourneau united them in marriage at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in
Hays, Kansas. Their union was a celebration of love and dedication that
prospered over the next 53 years.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Ken
worked as a grocery manager at Dillons in Great Bend, Kansas for 10 years.
After moving to Salina, he worked 9 years as the safety coordinator at Dillons.
He then went on to work for Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C as a Communications
Specialist II, retiring in September of 2014.

On
any given day of the week, you could find Ken watching the KC Chiefs, KC
Royals, or Gunsmoke. He also enjoyed playing card games with family and
friends, such as pitch or pinochle. His favorite pastime of all was watching
his children and grandchildren's sports games, band concerts, Special Olympics
bowling, and various other activities. Rain or shine, he would be in the crowd
cheering for his family at every event.

He
was a member of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Parish in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

Ken
was preceded in death by his father Alfred 'Fritz' W. Dechant, younger sister
Joyce D. Dechant, and nephew Wade M. Dreiling.&nbsp;

Remaining
to cherish Ken's memory are his wife Judy, his mother Dorothy Dechant;&nbsp;
Sisters: Linda Rohr (Allen), Janice Prater, and Marybeth Dreiling (Bruce);

She was born November 6, 1932, on the family farm in Pfeifer, Kansas to John
and Paulina (Roth) Jacobs.

She attended
and graduated from Sacred Heart high school in Salina. On August 10, 1957, she
married Robert “Bob” Ziegler at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pfeifer. He
preceded her in death in 2015.

Rosie had a
green thumb and maintained a vast garden full of a variety of flowers that
brought beauty and warmth into her home. She also had an artistic side,
enjoying painting and sewing in her free time. A favorite pastime of hers was
golf, but nothing came close to the joy that was hers when she spent time with
her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.

She was a woman
of faith, and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays.

Rosie is
survived by her children: Beverly (Craig) DuBois; Karla (Don) Ezell; Lori
(Scott) Hancock; Janel (Russ) Ruder; and Roberta Ziegler (Phillip Padilla).
Nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister-in-law: Ellie
Heimerman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded
